Full textThe phase II of the H.E.S.S. experiment (High Energy Stereoscopic System) consists of five imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes to study the southern astrophysical sources above 30 GeV. This thesis present the detector as well as the analysis chain, with a deep look on the fifth telescope commissioned on July 2012. The calibration method are described in detail. Then, an analysis based on a semi-analytical model of the electromagnetic shower development in the atmosphere is explained. A tool to reconstruct the energy spectrum of the very high energy gamma ray sources is presented. The methods of gamma ray selection among the hadron background are studied. Especially, the development of a new variable using the temporal data of the fifth telescope for the background rejection is shown. A systematic study of the analysis performances and of the selection cuts is accomplished, in order to reach the lowest energy threshold while keeping control of the background subtraction. The Galactic Centre has long been observed by H.E.S.S., which has detected a bright and punctual source at very-high energy as well as a diffuse emission along the Galactic plan. The Galactic Centre observations performed by the phase II of H.E.S.S. during the year 2014 are presented. A spectral reconstruction of the central source is performed

Full textH. E. S. S. (High Energy Stereoscopic System) is one of the leading systems of four Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes that investigates very high energy (VHE) cosmic γ-rays in the 100 GeV to 100 TeV energy range. H. E. S. S. Is located in Namibia, near the Gamsberg mountain and operational since December 2003. The H. E. S. S. Experiment is mainly aimed to the observation of the southern sky including the galactic plan and the numerous astrophysics sources therein. Three analysis methods have been developed using various properties of the electromagnetic showers generated by the interaction of primary cosmic γ-rays within the Earth atmosphere. The first goal of this thesis was to combine the information from these methods for the selection and the energy and direction reconstruction of γ-ray events. The new analysis called Xeff improves significantly the quality of the selection and the precision of the reconstruction. This analysis has been afterwards applied to the study of pulsar wind nebulae like Vela X, GO. 9+0. 1 and MSH 15-52. New results were found concerning the source extension (Vela X) or spectral analysis (GO. 9+0. 1 and MSH 15-52) at TeV energies, thanks to additional data and to the improved efficiency of the new method. In 2010, a new phase will begin with the achievement of a fifth telescope dedicated to γ-ray observation from tens GeV. The calibration processes of the photomultipliers equipping the camera of the new telescope, as well as the results of the tests, are also described in this thesis

Full textTo process the quantity of audiovisual information available in a smart and rapid way, it is necessary to have robust and automatic tools. This work addresses the soundtrack indexing and structuring of multimedia documents. Their goals are to detect the primary components: speech, music and key sounds. For speech/music classification, three unusual parameters are extracted: entropy modulation, stationary segment duration (with a Forward-Backward Divergence algorithm) and the number of segments. These three parameters are merged with the classical 4 Hertz modulation energy. Experiments on radio corpora show the robustness of these parameters. The system is compared and merged with a classical system. Another partitioning consists in detecting pertinent key sounds. For jingles, the selection of candidates is done by comparing the "signature" of each jingle with the data flow. This system is simple, fast and efficient. Applause and laughter are based on GMM with spectral analysis. A TV corpus validates this study by encouraging results. The detection of key words is carried out in a traditional way: the problem here is not to improve the existing systems but to be in a structuring task: these key words inform about the program type (news, weather, documentary). Through two studies, a reflection is done for the component uses in order to find a temporal structure of the audiovisual documents. The first study is a detection of a recurring production invariant in program collections. The second permits to structure TV news into topics. Some examples of video analysis contribution are developed

Full textThe aim of this thesis is to improve spectral unmixing algorithms in gamma ray spectrometry in order to speed up anomaly detection and the estimation of radionuclide contributions in aerosol filter samples analyzed by the French Institute of Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety. To this end, we have developed an unmixing algorithm that performs joint analysis of several successive measurements of the same sample. This algorithm has been improved to enable online analysis while the gamma-ray spectrum measurement is measured. Various tools had to be developed at the same time as this algorithm to enable radionuclide activities to be estimated accurately, including calibration of the spectral signatures used during the unmixing process. The results of these studies are presented in the thesis both on simulated spectra and on real spectra from the laboratory's routine analyses. The detection of a contamination of ¹²³I at 2 Bq in a sample after 2 minutes of measurement illustrates the acceleration made possible by the developments made during this thesis. Indeed, this detection would not have been possible with the tools used routinely

Full textThe evaluation of the dosimetric protection quantities used to ensure the three principles of the radiation protection is achieved by radiation survey meters. With a proper calibration, which is periodically controlled, these instruments give a dosimetric operational quantity, as the ambient dose equivalent rate H*(10) for example, which represents a good estimator of the effective dose E used to define regulatory ionizing radiation exposition limits for workers. So far before this thesis work, the periodic calibration control of radiation survey meters was achieved only by using radioactive sources, as the 137Cs, which emit mono-energetic gamma rays. Although this method is well known and standardized, it suffers from an energetic representativeness defect. Indeed, the ionizing radiation sources encountered are generally many and the environment enables diffusions which imply a broadened energetic spectrum. But the radiation survey meters are sensitive on large energetic ranges which response is not homogeneous. As part of this thesis work, realized in collaboration between ATRON METROLOGY and the LPC Caen, a calibration and calibration control of radiation survey meters method has been developed, validated and implemented. Broadened energetic X-rays fields, produced by the braking of electrons pre-accelerated by an electrostatic accelerator, are used rather than the mono-energetic gamma rays. This method offers a better representativeness in terms of metrology but is also a sustainable approach allowing to free the use of radioactive sources for calibration and calibration control of radiation survey meters
