Resumo: Esta dissertação descreve um experimento prático do qual participaram três grupos de alunos universitários matriculados na disciplina de Língua Inglesa Instrumental da Universidade Federal do Paraná em 1984. O experimento foi elaborado a fim de investigar até que ponto o uso de textos específicos relacionados às áreas de estudo dos alunos poderia resultar num melhor desempenho dos mesmos na compreensão de leitura. Assim, o principal objetivo do estudo foi o de descobrir um procedimento satisfatório e eficaz para desenvolver a habilidade de leitura que possibilitaria aos alunos um aperfeiçoamento na compreensão de leitura. 0 método experimental constituiu-se de três tipos de procedimentos ao ensino da compreensão de leitura aplicados a três grupos de alunos. O Grupo A (grupo misto) trabalhou com textos considerados de 'interesse geral', o Grupo B (grupo misto) trabalhou com textos relacionados â área de estudo de cada aluno, enquanto o Grupo C (grupo específico) trabalhou com textos relacionados â área de Nutrição. Os modelos psicolingüísticos do processo de leitura de Goodman e Smith foram usados como base teórica para o planejamento do curso de leitura especialmente elaborado para esta pesquisa. Um pré-teste e um pós-teste foram aplicados para medir o desempenho inicial e final dos alunos na compreensão de leitura. Os resultados da análise estatística demonstraram que grupos homogêneos levando-se em consideração o ano acadêmico, a área de estudo e interesse dos alunos, desempenham melhor do que grupos heterogêneos, especialmente quando trabalham com textos específicos relacionados a suas áreas de estudo. Embora os resultados obtidos não nos ofereçam conclusões mais definidas sobre os grupos heterogêneos, eles nos fornecem diversas implicações pedagógicas úteis ao ensino e aprendizagem da compreensão de leitura.

Abstract:
Installing an electrical submersible pump can be a way to increase the production in a well. This report will explain some ways the electrical submersible pump can be installed and describe the different components in an electrical submersible pump. The report will also give an insight in how electrical submersible pumps have been used and improvements done to the electrical submersible pump on two different fields. The main part will describe a method to screen wells and find out if installing an electrical submersible pump will be profitable. The method is to estimate future oil production, based on real-time production, with and without an ESP installed, and calculate the net present value. The method takes into account costs of installing, running and removing an electrical submersible pump. The ESP screening tool is screening the wells automatically. In addition it does an ESP simulation to find applicable pumps. For the ten wells screened by the ESP screening tool, the net present values have been negative, due to weak water cut estimation.

Research on English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers’ identities in the curriculum shifting period from English for General Purposes (EGP) to English for Specific Purposes (ESP) has just begun to draw attention from scholars in China (e.g., Ai et al., 2019; Jiang, 2022; Jiang et al., 2020; Qi et al., 2021; Tao & Gao, 2018) and other similar contexts (e.g., Mahendra, 2020; Mohamed et al., 2016; Rebenko, 2020), but there was a scarcity in terms of empirical research. To help fill the gap, this study sought to examine a cohort of EFL teachers based in a Chinese university in the transitional process from EGP to ESP. Conceptualized within a sociocultural approach, this study was framed with four theoretical constructs: teacher professional identity (Barkhuizen, 2017; Kayi-Aydar, 2019; Varghese, 2017) sits in the center, surrounded by teacher knowledge (Shulman, 1987), teacher autonomy (Benson, 2017; Littlewood, 1999) and teacher practices. Informed by these theoretical constructs, a qualitative multiple-case study was adopted in this research to investigate EFL teachers’ professional identities in the curriculum transitional phase from EGP to ESP. These categories such as teacher knowledge, teacher autonomy, and teacher practices were associated with research informed by the sociocultural approach. While these theoretical constructs were important to guide the conceptualization of the thesis, they were used to help, at the methodological level, with literature review and data collection and analysis. Also, these aspects carried essential qualities that collectively contributed to the dynamics and display of EFL teachers’ professional identities in the process of their responding to and embracing the curriculum changes from EGP to ESP. This study endeavored to address a set of key research questions as follows: iv (1) What are the characteristics of EFL teachers’ professional identities in the transitional process from EGP to ESP? (2) How and in what ways did EFL teachers display their professional identities in the transitional process from EGP to ESP? (3) What factors (and/or how these factors) may have or not impacted their professional identities in the transitional process from EGP to ESP? Methods employed in this qualitative case study encompassed questionnaires, interviews, and documents to collect data. Data were analyzed through content analysis (Churchill, 2013) and successive approximation (Neuman, 2014). Findings derived from different data sets were cross-checked and compared to map a general pattern or tendency. The major findings are: (1) Chinese EFL teachers’ professional identities as emerged in the transitional process were shown with complexity and multiplicity, which were also dynamic, emotional, relational, and interactional as observed in three broad aspects of teacher knowledge, teacher autonomy, and teacher practices; (2) Chinese EFL teachers’ professional identities were specifically displayable by way of program preparing, classroom instruction, as well as professional development in relation to their knowledge, autonomy, and practices; and (3) key factors having impacted the development and display of Chinese EFL teachers’ professional identities were found to include internal factors (i.e., educational background, corporate work experience, knowledge of learners, intrinsic motivation, and personal traits/preferences) and external factors (i.e., policy, mentoring role, syllabus, timetabling, institutional support, and connection with colleagues/professional community). v This study offered an integrated theoretical lens to look at EFL teacher professional identity and guide EFL teachers confronted with similar situations. As reviewed, research on language teacher identity primarily chose to examine the issue either from the perspective of knowledge, or autonomy, or teaching practice. There was very little research that tried to look at the three related aspects in combination. This thesis incorporated the three strands of research – teacher knowledge, teacher autonomy, and teacher practices – as a conceptual and analytical tool to investigate typical Chinese EFL teachers’ professional identities in the transitional process from EGP to ESP. The combined approach to examining the related core aspects would provide a better understanding of EFL teachers’ professional identities by looking at the dynamics of teacher knowledge, autonomy, classroom practices, and their interplay in the transitional period of centralized curriculum reform. This integration of related research and theoretical constructs, therefore, would provide an alternative theoretical lens. Empirically, it yielded a set of context-specific research evidence to contribute to the existing research on teacher knowledge, teacher autonomy and teacher professional identity, and an empirical base to inform the development of a framework for researching teacher professional development. Pedagogically, the empirical data and the findings could help EFL teachers in the transitional process to reflect upon their professional identities and teaching practice, thus providing an alternative approach to formulating professional training and development for the EFL teachers in China or a starting point for EFL programs moving from EGP to ESP.

The increasing number of economic and cultural aid programmes for Vietnam to reconstruct its war-torn economy in recent years from the United Nations Development Programme and other international and governmental organizations has created a great demand for English language teaching and learning in Vietnam. The language problems that face Vietnamese scientists and technicians working in these aid programmes have been a major concern of many educational institutions in Vietnam and a reason for the author of this Study Report to take up this study. Chapter one of this study covers major stages of development of the teaching of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and various factors that influence the teaching of ESP. Chapter two discusses some current issues in the teaching of ESP in Vietnam with special reference to course organization, syllabus and material design at the Hanoi Foreign Language College. It also points out some misunderstanding and misconception in the teaching of English to Vietnamese scientists and technicians. Chapter three looks at major language problems that Vietnamese students meet when they go to study at different colleges or universities in English speaking countries. A close investigation will be carried out over a number of Vietnamese veterinary doctors studying at the university of Queensland in Australia. Chapter four is concerned with the selection of suitable syllabus models for ESP/EAP courses at HFLC and also attempts to work out appropriate syllabuses for EAP courses for Vietnamese students going to study overseas. The final chapter suggests some further considerations for organizing ESP/EAP courses at HFLC especially for material production, ESP teacher training and ESP testing. It is hoped that this Study Report will give language teachers in the ESP Department at the Hanoi Foreign Languages College a clearer picture of what ESP is all about and provide some guidelines for successful organization of teaching ESP and EAP to Vietnamese students.

In Hanoi alone, there are more than 20 universities and colleges in which English Foreign Language (EFL) is taught in the curriculum. Much has been done to improve the task of teaching and learning ESP. Not much work has been done, however, about ESP teachers, their roles, responsibilities and position in the process of learning and teaching. It is inevitable that the teacher plays a decisive part in English learning and teaching. It is therefore the purpose of this study is to explore and investigate the roles and functions of the ESP teacher. This investigation has been carried out through questionnaire, class observation and interviews with teachers. Factors are identified which make ESP teachers successful and effective. That this field study report has been carried out originates from the fact that urgent remedies are needed to improve ESP testing in Vietnam. This field study report consists of five chapters as follows. Chapter one gives an overall picture of language testing in Vietnam, as well as dealing with the reasons why ESP testing should be improved. Chapter two covers questions such as the terminology in assessing (evaluation, assessment, and testing), role of testing, types of language tests, and main characteristics of a good test. Chapter three considers the problems concerning ESP, for example, a definition of ESP, ESP in the teaching learning process, ESP in Vietnam as well as ESP classification. Chapter four takes into consideration such questions as the theoretical background of ESP testing, proficiency tests in ESP testing, problems in ESP testing, ESP testing in Vietnam together with comments, and suggestions for improvements. Chapter five reconfirms the aim of this field study report - to improve ESP testing in Vietnam.

The aim of this research is to contribute some ideas to the investigation of vocabulary instruction. In the 90#s, Applied Linguistics emphasized the importance of vocabulary teaching since grammar and lexis were understood as inseparable concerns. Nowadays, specialized vocabulary is studied as a sublanguage or English for Science or Technology (EST). This sublanguage, which is present in technical contexts, is part of students knowledge, who study English for Specific or Academic purposes (ESP or EAP) while enhancing their skills. In TEFL, the tradition, was to teach grammar and language structures. Typical pedagogical materials for ESP present some limitations due to the following: (i) they use unauthentic texts; (ii) they are not constantly updated, since they are printed and still based on grammar. In an attempt to contribute to remedy this situation, some methodologies are appearing in Corpus Linguistics (CL).Three approaches which make use of CL methodology (Lexical Syllabus, Lexical Approach, and Data-Driven Learning) were applied in one specific unexplored area: EST vocabulary. In this context, the following research questions are addressed: (i) How does EST vocabulary behave in some IT texts of Linux guides? (ii) What are the advantages of using CL methodology to produce ESP materials in Information technology? (iii) How do learners act in response to corpus-based activities designed focusing on vocabulary instruction? The research methodology includes corpus compilation, study of language standards retrieved with WordSmith tools (Scott, 1996), elaboration of pedagogical material supported by corpus-based approaches as well as the application and analysis of the developed material. The most important results pointed out: (i) Lexical combinations are context dependent, (ii) the design of a satisfactory material for teacher and learners, (iii) corpus-based exercises assumed a different position.

The findings from this research will contribute to the work of ESP teachers, scientific and technology professors, and especially the students and engineers in this area, in the sense of making the learning process much simpler and effective.
Este trabalho de investigação situa-se no âmbito da problemática da utilização do Inglês na expansão das Telecomunicações e das implicações que a língua inglesa tem, a nível académico e industrial, nesta especialidade. Partindo desta problemática irei proceder ao estudo da comunidade académica e profissional. O estudo desta comunidade visa compreender as necessidades específicas de aprendizagem no âmbito do Inglês para Fins Específicos, na área da Engenharia Electrónica e de Telecomunicações. Os resultados da investigação permitirão fornecer aos professores de ESP e aos docentes de disciplinas de formação científica e tecnológica, e aos próprios estudantes e profissionais nesta área, uma contribuição para uma aprendizagem efectiva do Inglês neste âmbito.

The present study examines the use of multimedia annotations in English for Specific Purposes (ESP). It focuses on the effect of multimedia annotations on incidental learning of vocabulary, overall comprehension and knowledge of specialist content. Furthermore, the extent to which language proficiency and verbal ability affect this learning is also investigated. Recent studies, similar to the one presented here (e.g. Plass et al., 2003), have found that multimedia annotations increase incidental learning of vocabulary and overall comprehension. The research involved forty Portuguese-speaking first year undergraduates studying Tourism at the Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão (School of Higher Education: Technology and Business) in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, who were randomly assigned to one of two groups. The control group read a text presented in printed format and accessed traditional dictionaries. The experimental group read the same text presented through a multimedia computer programme, and all their moves were recorded by a tracker. Tests were applied to all subjects prior to, and immediately after, the experiment and then three months later. Descriptive statistics, t-tests and correlations were used to analyse the data, using programmes available in the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS 10.0, 1999). The results from the quantitative data (test scores) not only showed that students with access to multimedia annotations comprehended the text better and learned more words incidentally by developing greater short- and longterm retention, but also that knowledge of specialist content increased significantly. These findings were interpreted in light of Mayer’s (2001) cognitive theory of multimedia learning, which claims that meaningful learning requires constructing connections between visual and verbal representations. The main result emerging from the qualitative data (tracker data) is that the use of multiple annotations reinforces retention. A significant correlation was found between the number of annotations students looked up and incidental vocabulary learning. The tracker data provided insights into how ESP students, with different language proficiencies and verbal abilities, as well as lookup preferences, use multimedia annotations to aid comprehension while reading. Finally, suggestions for further studies are put forward.
Este trabalho examina o uso de anotações multimédia no ensino do Inglês para fins específicos (ESP). O objectivo é verificar o efeito exercido pelas anotações multimédia na aprendizagem involuntária de vocabulário, compreensão e aquisição de conteúdos específicos. É ainda investigada a influência que os níveis de língua e de raciocínio verbal exercem sobre esta aprendizagem. Estudos recentes, similares ao que aqui se apresenta (ex. Plass et al., 2003), indicam que as anotações multimédia facilitam a aprendizagem involuntária de vocabulário e a compreensão global de textos. Estiveram envolvidos neste estudo quarenta estudantes do 1º ano da Licenciatura em Turismo da Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão, do Instituto Politécnico de Viana do Castelo, distribuídos aleatoriamente por dois grupos. O grupo de controlo leu um texto impresso e usou dicionários tradicionais. O grupo experimental leu o mesmo texto apresentado por um programa multimédia e teve todos os movimentos gravados. Foram aplicados testes a todos os sujeitos antes da experiência, imediatamente após e passados três meses. Na análise de dados, foi utilizada a estatística descritiva, t-testes e correlações, recorrendo a ferramentas do SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, 10.0, 1999). Os resultados da análise dos dados quantitativos (resultados dos testes) não só revelaram que os alunos com acesso às anotações multimédia compreenderam melhor o texto e aprenderam involuntariamente mais palavras, ao demonstrarem uma memória de curto e longo prazo superior, mas também que a aquisição de conteúdos específicos aumentou significativamente. Estes resultados foram interpretados de acordo com a teoria cognitiva de aprendizagem multimédia, proposta por Mayer (2001), que defende que a aprendizagem significativa requer a criação de conexões entre representações visuais e verbais. O resultado principal, que decorre dos dados qualitativos provenientes do programa de monitorização discreta (tracker) dos movimentos dos alunos que leram o texto electrónico, indica que o uso de várias anotações reforça a retenção da informação. Foi verificada uma correlação significativa entre o número de anotações utilizadas e a aprendizagem involuntária de vocabulário. O registo efectuado pelo programa de monitorização contribuiu para um melhor conhecimento da forma como alunos de ESP, com preferências e níveis de língua e de raciocínio verbal diferentes, usam as anotações multimédia para facilitar a compreensão. Finalmente, são dadas sugestões para estudos futuros.

The current work aimed to increase the knowledge of biodiversity of parasite of fishes, unknown to some groups. In Chapter 1 the aim was described the new species ergasilid copepod Ergasilus von Nordmann, 1832, found on the gills of two cichlid fishes, Geophagus argyrostictus Kullander, 1991 (type host) and G. altifrons Heckel, 1840, caught in the Xingu River around Altamira, State of Par?, Brazil. The new species is the first record of genus Ergasilus found on fishes G. argyrostictus e G. altifrons. In Chapter 2, species of Encotyllabe Perciformes host were analyzed by molecular study, with analysis of cytochrome c oxidase I gene (COI) and morphological study. These data identify two new species, a parasite of Pagrus pagrus (Sparidae) and other of Orthopristis ruber (Haemulidae), and addition of the sequence mitochondrial DNA to E. souzalimae Carvalho e Luque, 2012.

Abstract:
This case study is an evaluation of an innovative ESP intervention curriculum designed to improve the job-interview program in the ESP syllabus in an English medium university. The intervention curriculum was a pedagogic process tailored to the situated small culture of the Lebanese ESP class. Five ESP students attending a business communication course participated. The case study arrived at four general conclusions. First it was found that the participants actively engaged in different structures of learning across the stages of the intervention curriculum, which included an enriched ESP learning session, simulation in the classroom context, the group interview, and simulation in the job-interview context. Second, it was found that the participants' job-interview performance improved when comparing their audio-visually recorded simulation in the classroom context to that held in the authentic job-interview context. Third, the participants perceived that their job-interview performance improved because they were better able to address the job-interview context and content. Fourth, the practitioner-researcher drawing on triangulated sources and methods of investigations posited that the intervention curriculum was a relatively effective pedagogic process since the three pedagogic tools of informal cooperative learning, simulating, and the impact of audiovisual recording seem to have been positively perceived and were integrated into the participants' effort towards professional improvement. In implementing the intervention curriculum as pedagogy, shortcomings were found. Participants did not interact freely amongst each other, their classmates, and their lecturer. In addition, some students exhibited weaknesses in communicative skills. Recommendations were made to amend the intervention curriculum and change the research design.

Abstract:

The purpose of this quantitative descriptive dissertation study was to examine teacher perceptions of instructional issues and delivery and working environments of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) programs. Data were collected from ESP teachers at 12 universities in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam through an online survey. This study was significant since the results might benefit the design, development, and evaluation of ESP curriculums to reduce significant problems and enhance ESP teaching quality. Also, the exploration of teacher perceptions can help school administrators work around the limitations of their contextual conditions and impose a higher level of impact on transformation and development of ESP programs.

The collected data were analyzed by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software. The questionnaire included 32 items that were rated on a four-point Likert scale ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 4 (strongly agree). Descriptive statistics including means and standard deviations were used to answer Research Question 1. Independent samples t-tests and ANOVAs were used for research question 2 to determine how the groups were different from one another. The results pointed out aspects of ESP programs that were perceived similarly and differently by groups of respondents based on the gender, age, educational backgrounds, and ESP teaching experience.

Neste trabalho é apresentado o desenvolvimento e os resultados da implementação e testes em campo de um estabilizador de sistema de potência (ESP) projetado com técnica de controle digital para fins de amortecimento de modos de oscilação eletromecânica observáveis em sinais de potência elétrica medido em uma unidade hidro-geradora, de 350 MVA da Usina Hidrelétrica de Tucuruí. É apresentada e aplicada a metodologia de identificação de modelos paramétricos lineares do tipo auto regressivo com entradas exógenas (ARX), para estimação de modelos com capacidade de capturar a informação relevante (amortecimento e freqüência natural) dos modos eletromecânicos dominantes do sistema. De posse do modelo paramétrico ARX, é efetuada então a síntese da lei de controle digital amortecedor para o ESP, através da técnica de deslocamento radial dos pólos da função de transferência de malha fechada. Para a síntese da lei de controle digital, utilizou-se uma estrutura canônica do tipo RST. Para os testes de campo, a lei de controle amortecedor do ESP digital foi codificada em linguagem C e embarcada em um protótipo cujo hardware é baseado em microcontrolador modelo DSPIC 30F3014, o qual incorpora um grande número de periféricos para aquisição e comunicação de dados. Para avaliar o desempenho do ESP digital desenvolvido, testes experimentais foram realizados em uma unidade geradora de 350 MVA da casa de força número 1, da UHE de Tucuruí. O estabilizador desenvolvido atua através da modulação da referência de tensão do regulador automático de tensão da respectiva unidade geradora, de acordo com as oscilações observadas através da medida de potência elétrica no estator do gerador. Os resultados de testes de campo mostraram um excelente desempenho do ESP digital no amortecimento de um modo eletromecânico, de freqüência natural de aproximadamente 1,7 Hz, observado nos teste de campo realizado.
This work presents the development and implementation as well as the results of field tests of a power system stabilizer (PSS) designed with digital control method for damping electromechanical modes of oscillation observed for signs of electrical power measured in a generating unit of 350 MVA of Tucuruí power plant. It is presented and applied the methodology of identifying linear parametric models such as auto regressive with exogenous inputs (ARX) for estimation of models with the ability to capture the relevant information (natural frequency and damping) of dominant electromechanical modes of the system. In possession of ARX parametric model is done then the synthesis of digital damper control law for the ESP, using the technique of pole displacement of the closed loop transfer function. For the synthesis of digital control law, we used a canonical structure type RST. For the field tests, the control law digital ESP buffer was coded in C language and embedded in a hardware prototype of which is based on model DSPIC 30F3014 microcontroller, which incorporates a large number of peripherals for data acquisition and communication. In order to evaluate the performance of the digital PSS developed, experimental tests were performed in a generating unit of 350 MVA power house number 1 from Tucuruí power plant. The stabilizer acts carried out by adjusting the reference voltage regulator automatic voltage of the respective generating unit in accordance with the oscillations observed by measuring the electrical power generator stator. The results of field tests showed an excellent performance of ESP digital damping of electromechanical mode of natural frequency of approximately 1.7 Hz, observed in the field trial.

Forty participants from an introductory Psychology course were recruited based upon their self-reported beliefs in ESP (High, Medium, Low). Participants answered a packet of self report questionnaires, then underwent electroencephalographic (EEG) recording during eyes open and eyes closed resting baseline. Participants then completed "traditional" and "novelty enhanced" formats, of a multimodal biofield detection battery and a computerized forced-choice precognition task. Results showed no evidence of precognition for any belief level group, or either task format. Biofield detection accuracy was significantly above chance expectation for 2 of the 6 modalities tested, and correlated with self reported "energy sensitivity". Belief in ESP was found to be psychologically related to higher levels of belief in other "spiritual experiences", lower levels of cynicism and rigidity, and increased sense of coherence. EEG findings indicated that strong belief and strong skepticism of ESP were associated with increased frontal asymmetry scores, and that moderate degrees of belief were associated with negative frontal asymmetry scores during eyes open baseline recording. Suggestions for future research are provided.

In der vorliegenden Arbeit wurden die wichstigen Methoden untersucht, die bei der Realisierung von Algorithmen der asymmetrischen Kryptographie (Verteilung der –offentlichen Schlüssel, Generierung und Prüfung der elektronischen Unterschrift) verwendelt werden. Im Mittelpunkt stand die Durführung von berechnungen in den algebraischen Endstrukturen. Folgende Grundalgorithmen der asymmetrischen Kryptographie wurden in der Programiersprache C++ realisiert: die Addition (Substraktion) der Grossen Zahlen, die Potenzierung einer Grossen Zahl mit einer anderen Grossen Zahl. Eine analzse von Algorithmen der assimetrischen Kryptographie wurde durchgeführt, Schlussfolgerungen über die Effektivität der Algorithmen bei Anwendung in der Funktionen zur Berechnung und Prüfung der elektronischen digitalen Unterschrift gezogen.

Researching teachers’ professional knowledge and its impact on classroom decisions and actions is a relatively recent endeavor in language education. A few studies have investigated the links between what teachers think and how they act in teaching English for general purposes (EGP). However, in teaching English for specific purposes (ESP) this kind of study is scarce. Moreover, exploring the effects of teachers’ knowledge on action in the classroom, and investigating the practical and professional needs of ESP teachers in the context of this study is lacking from the existing literature on ESP teaching and teacher development. In an attempt to address this gap in literature, this study embarked to explore teachers’ knowledge of ESP at tertiary and practical colleges in Kuwait. It also aimed at observing the links between ESP teachers’ knowledge and practices and the potential impacts of contextual factors on teachers’ knowledge in action. In order to capture a holistic understanding of ESP teachers’ knowledge and pedagogical underpinnings, eleven ESP teachers from various vocational colleges were interviewed – nine experienced ESP teachers and two relatively younger participants shared their stories about their understanding of ESP and its practices. Three participants from the above sample agreed to be observed in their classrooms and interviewed after each observation session. Moreover, a group discussion session was observed for further information and data triangulation. In collecting data for this study, qualitative interpretive methodology was employed. The data collection techniques were mainly interviews, classroom observations, stimulated recall interviews, and a group discussion. The results of the study agreed with the existing literature on the impact of context on teachers’ knowledge and practices. They suggested that context played a significant role in shaping teachers’ knowledge and understanding of the nature of ESP practices in Kuwait, and had a profound influence on their pedagogical and practical choices. The study also indicated a gap between teachers’ “knowledge-for-practice” (theoretical knowledge) and their “knowledge-in-practice” (practical knowledge) that has been attributed to the overwhelming contextual factors. The lack of awareness of some ESP practitioner’s roles and responsibilities, and overlooking certain ESP classroom activities seemed to be another factor impeding the implementation of knowledge in practice in the context of this study. The implications of this study can help improve ESP teachers and specialists’ awareness in Kuwait about the significant requirements for successful ESP programmes by addressing questions such as: what constitute ESP teachers’ knowledge and what factors influence the implementation of this knowledge in practice? It can also inform ESP course developers to design ESP courses that take into consideration all the factors that escalate the effectiveness of the ESP courses. Finally, this study can be used as a reference for ESP teacher development programmes to get insights into teachers’ ‘lacks’, ‘needs’ and ‘wants’, and to focus on significant issues that ESP training courses need to embrace to acquaint humanity-trained language teachers with the knowledge base and the specific pedagogical content knowledge needed in the ESP domain.

The purpose of this thesis is to evaluate the level of economic and trade cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan starting from the beginning of its formation. I have used SWOT analysis tool to show different aspects which influence current level and further possibilities for cooperation. The study finds that, the EU is presently a major investor and trade partner of Azerbaijan. Up to latest time, the main factor of cooperation was the country's energy resources. However, later Azerbaijan has enlarged its participation by enrollment in the EU Eastern Partnership agreement and European Neighborhood Policy (ENP) and is currently closely working with the EU in a number of areas. Azerbaijan is seeking for the membership in the WTO which can potentially facilitate trade flows between the two parties and bring the country closer to the European market.

This work was divided into three chapters; the first one was carried out for identifying secondary metabolites classes on three forage legumes: Pueraria phaseoloides (puero), Macrotyloma axillare (archer) and Neonotonia wightii (perennial soybean). These sorts of metabolites when present in plants may cause to animal adverse effects resulting ingestion and digestion decreasement and nutrients bioavailabity named antinutritional factors as well as may systematically induce to animal or herd performance decreasement. For this stud, phytochemical prospection, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Analysis (NMRA) and Infrared Spectroscopy (IS) were performed. Following secondary metabolites classes: organic acids, reducing sugars, depsidians and depsidones, coumarine derivatives, steroids and triterpenoids, saponins, cardiac glycosides, saccharides and tannins on three forage legumes species were identified. Puero e perennial soybean for alkaloids presence were compatible. According bibliographic references, secondary metabolites classes have presented antinutritional effects compounds, some of totally dependent on intake and specie like reducing sugars and saccharides responsible for antinutritional effects on monogastric animals as well. The second chapter of this survey was carried out for quantifying condensed tannin content by Stiasny Reaction and for evaluating puero, archer and perennial soybean in vitro foam stability. For tannin quantification separated portions of entire plant, leaves, and stem by Simple Randomized Design with legumes allocated on subdivided parcels and portions on subparcels was used. By analysis of covariance, obtained result average, as well as interactions effects between legumes and portions by Tukey Test (P<0.05) were achieved. In vitro foam stability and yielding evaluation due to produced foam by legumes considered ruminant foamy meteorism potential etiological agent was performed. Simple Randomized Design consisting by subdivided parcels with three replications each was carried out where portions were composed by entire plant, leaves and stem as well as crude methanol extract related to parcels and remaining time (0, 5, 10, 30 and 60 minutes) for monitoring volume to subparcels. By Tukey Test (P<0.05) each portion averages within each time were compared and by analysis of variance results related to volume and remaining time were submitted to. By statistical analysis of Regression, saved volume effect during time and legumes interaction and checking time were evaluated as well as foam stability interaction in relation to remaining foam was estimated. Condensed tannin content ranged from 1 to 1.6%. In regard to perennial soybean and archer, foam stability produced by entire plant, leaves, stem and legumes methanol extract was considered constant, nevertheless puero showed significative result, creating the following regression equations y= -2.0111x 44.984 for leaf; y= -2.4x 37.957 for stem; y= -2.9049 x 31.779 for plant entire and y= -15.383x 125.31 for methanol extract. The aim of third chapter was to evaluate fungi association to legumes: Pueraria phaseoloides (puero), Neonotonia wightii (perennial soybean), Macrotyloma axillare (archer), Calopogonium mucunoides (calopo) and Arachis pintoi cv Amarillo (pinto), however, due to substances over legumes leaves presenting disgusting feature they have been considered unappropriate to animal feeding. According Barnett and hunter (1990) and Pitt and Hocking (1997) fungi amorphous reproduction elements were used. For fungi macroscopic and microscopic identification, Imprint tape technique, NaOH and blue cotton were used. The following fungi: Alternaria spp, Phitomyces chartarum, Nigrospora spp, Cladosporium spp, Mucor spp, Fusarium spp, Pseudomicrodochium spp, Tetraploa spp, Acremonium spp, Aspergillus niger, Curvularia spp and Micelia sterilia were reported, at all.
Este trabalho foi dividido em tr?s cap?tulos, o primeiro realizou-se com o objetivo de identificar as classes de metab?litos secund?rios presentes em tr?s leguminosas forrageiras Pueraria phaseoloides (kudzu tropical), Macrotyloma axillare (macrotiloma) e Neonotonia wightii (soja perene). Metab?litos estes, que quando presentes em plantas podem provocar efeitos adversos ao animal ocasionando diminui??o na ingest?o, digest?o e biodisponibilidade de nutrientes os que lhes conferem a denomina??o de fatores antinutricionais, estes efeitos podem repercutir de forma sist?mica acarretando diminui??o do desempenho animal ou rebanho. Para este estudo foi realizada a prospec??o fitoqu?mica, an?lise de Resson?ncia Magn?tica Nuclear de Hidrog?nio (RMN 1H) e Espectroscopia no Infravermelho (IV). Foram identificadas as seguintes classes de metab?litos secund?rios: ?cidos org?nicos, a??cares redutores, deps?dios e depsidonas, derivados da cumarina, ester?ides e triterpen?ides, saponinas, glicos?deos card?acos, sacar?deos e taninos nas tr?s esp?cies estudadas. O kudzu tropical e soja perene apresentaram ainda sinais compat?veis para a presen?a de alcaloides. As classes de metab?litos secund?rios estudadas apresentam compostos com efeitos antinutricionais para os animais, alguns destes efeitos s?o dependentes da quantidade ingerida e da esp?cie animal como o caso dos sacar?deos e ac?cares redutores que possuem efeitos antinutricionais em monog?stricos segundo literaturas consultadas. O segundo cap?tulo deste trabalho teve como objetivo quantificar o teor de tanino condensado atrav?s da Rea??o de Stiasny e avaliar a estabilidade in vitro da espuma formada pelas leguminosas, kudzu tropical, macrotiloma e soja perene. Para a quantifica??o do tanino, foram tomados em separados as por??es, planta inteira, folhas e haste, utilizou-se um delineamento inteiramente casualizado com parcelas subdivididas alocando-se as leguminosas nas parcelas e as por??es nas subparcelas. A m?dia do resultado obtido foi submetida ? an?lise de vari?ncia e comparadas pelo Teste de Tukey (P<0,05), os efeitos das intera??es entre leguminosas e por??es foram desdobrados pelo teste de Tukey (P<0,05) a avalia??o da produ??o e estabilidade da espuma in vitro foi realizada devido ? espuma produzida por leguminosas ser referida como poss?vel agente etiol?gico do meteorismo espumoso em ruminantes. Neste estudo utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado em parcelas subdivididas com tr?s repeti??es cada, onde as por??es compostas por planta inteira, folhas, e haste e o extratos metan?lico bruto foram consideradas as parcelas e o tempo de repouso (0, 5, 10, 30 e 60min) onde aferiu-se o volume as subparcelas. O resultado referente ao volume produzido e conservado durante o tempo de repouso foi submetido ? an?lise de vari?ncia e as m?dias de cada por??o dentro de cada tempo foram comparadas pelo teste de Tukey (P<0.05) o efeito do volume conservado durante o tempo e a intera??o entre leguminosas e tempo de aferi??o foi desdobrados pela an?lise de regress?o e a intera??o da estabilidade da espuma formada foi avaliada em fun??o da porcentagem de espuma remanescente. Como resultado deste estudo o teor de tanino condensado variou de 1 a 1,6%. Quanto ? estabilidade da espuma produzida pelas por??es planta inteira, folha, haste e extrato metan?lico das leguminosas foi considerada est?vel para as por??es referentes ? soja perene e macrotiloma, entretanto o kudzu apresentou um resultado significativo para a estabilidade da espuma para as quatros por??es em estudos, gerando as equa??es de regress?o y=-2,0111x44,984 para a por??o folha; y= -2,4x37,957 para a por??o haste; y= -2,9049x31,779 para a por??o planta inteira e para o extrato metan?lico a equa??o y= -15,383x 125,31. O objetivo da realiza??o do terceiro cap?tulo deste estudo foi avaliar a associa??o de fungos com as leguminosas: Pueraria phaseoloides (kudzu tropical), Neonotonia wightii (soja perene), Macrotyloma axillare (macrotiloma), Calopogonium mucunoides (calopog?nio) e Arachis pintoi cv.amarillo (amendoim forrageiro) devido ? presen?a de subst?ncias encontradas depositadas sobre as folhas das leguminosas as quais conferiram aspecto repugnante para inclus?o na alimenta??o animal. Para esta avalia??o foram utilizados os elementos de reprodu??o amorfas dos fungos de acordo com as metodologias de Barnett e Hunter, (1990) e Pitt e Hocking, (1997). Na identifica??o observaram-se a macroscopia e microscopia dos fungos utilizando Imprint com fitas adesivas ou lam?nulas de vidro, NaOH e Azul de algod?o, diretamente do material obtido das leguminosas e das col?nias desenvolvidas em Agar Sabouraud Dextrose e Agar Simples, sendo identificados os fungos Alternaria spp, Phitomyces chartarum, Nigrospora spp, Cladosporium spp, Mucor spp, Fusarium spp, Pseudomicrodochium spp, Tetraploa spp, Acremonium spp, Aspergillus niger, Curvularia spp e Mic?lia ster?lia.

Seit dem Jahr 1995 ist das Elektronische Stabilitäts-Programm (ESP) als Fahrerassistenzsystem (FAS) für Pkw verfügbar. In dieser Zeit hat ESP viele Menschenleben gerettet. Nach dem Sicherheitsgurt als „Lebensretter Nr. 2“ zwar anerkannt, ist ESP jedoch nach wie vor nicht serienmäßig in allen Pkw verfügbar. Die Unfallforschung der Versicherer (UDV) ist daher mit der vorliegenden Untersuchung der Frage nachgegangen, welche Neufahrzeuge aktuell mit ESP ausgestattet werden und wie hoch der Anteil der serienmäßigen ESP-Ausstattung ist. Diese Informationen sollen vor allem dem Verbraucher als Hilfe dienen für die Fahrzeug-Auswahl beim Neu- und Gebrauchtwagenkauf.
