Abstract:
My thesis aims to detect the role of Da-sein in Heidegger’s Beiträge zur Philosophie and shows how this should be understood as a new concept compared to the notion of Dasein presented in Sein und Zeit. I claim that Da-sein is not Dasein: these two notions involve two meanings and two different ontological accounts. In order to prove that, in the first chapter I analyse the characteristics of Dasein in Sein und Zeit, so arguing that Dasein and the human beings are two interchangeable terms: Dasein does not indicate the way of being of the human being, rather the human being as a being. Then, I use Heidegger’s works written before Beiträge in order to analyse the genesis of Da-sein and, at the same time, the genesis of all the other concepts required to understand its features. In so doing, I isolate three main philosophical domains that, in my opinion, characterise Heidegger’s thought during the early 1930s: the Greeks (second chapter), Nietzsche (third chapter) and Hölderlin (fourth chapter). Through his analysis of Greek philosophy (especially through the analysis of the concepts of physis, aletheia and logos), Heidegger puts the basis to elaborate a new ontology, grounded on the Being (Seyn) as such, and not on that being which questions the meaning of Being (Sein), namely Dasein. Thanks to Nietzsche, Heidegger starts conceiving the end of Western metaphysics and the role of the subject in it. As a consequence, Heidegger argues that the structure of history is ontologically oriented and that the metaphysical subject lies on the opposite side of Da-sein. Finally, by reading Hölderlin Heidegger acquires the philosophical instruments to think beyond this end and beyond this subject; that is, he offers the theoretical tools to understand the necessity of the withdrawal of Being and to locate the human being within this necessity. Therefore, in the fifth chapter, I analyse Beiträge on the light of all these theorical frames, gathering them around the problem of Da-sein. In so doing, I show that Da-sein 1) does not indicate the human being, but an ontological place (Ort) that has to be occupied by human being; 2) this place is where Seyn allows human being to ground the being; 3) in metaphysics, this place is closed and the human finds itself outside the Da-sein and it could not properly ground the being; 4) after the end of metaphysics, we have the chance to open again this place, understanding the reasons of its closing, and to situate the human being in the Da-sein.

Abstract:
The starting point chosen in this work is the hermeneutic consensus achieved in the Jewish-Christian dialogue. Reflecting upon some of the fundamental aspects of theology, the study develops more in-depth hermeneutic criteria based on the insight that the Bible of Israel is the shared common heritage that both establishes a link between Jews and Christians and is the point of origin of two religious traditions that have interpreted the heritage in different ways. It primarily deals with the conceptions held by Brevard S. Childs, Rolf Rendtorff and Erich Zenger who cover paradigmatic positions, ranging from a focus on the canon and on christology to a common Jewish-Christian reading and to a hermeneutic approach of “canonical dialogism”. The study yields the following results: Firstly, building on considerations embraced by the theory of reception, Old Testament hermeneutics within the Jewish-Christian dialogue have to be defined as a specifically Christian reading that, at the same time, continues to depend on the dialogue with the equal-ranking Jewish reading. Secondly, this hermeneutic approach has to be designed as a theological interpretation that relates to the canon of the Old and New Testament. This involves taking into account the diversity of the biblical material by using Zenger’s concept of canonical dialogism as a starting point. Thirdly, as is makes a contribution to “post-Auschwitz theology”, this reading will not be able to adopt a neutral standpoint. Fourthly, it will expand upon the christological interpretation and, in doing so, it will go by Childs’ concept of the christological relation being an extension conceived in pneumatological terms. Fifthly, by adopting Derrida’s deconstruction and his notion of the “event” as a messianic irruption, this hermeneutic approach can only conceive the act of understanding as an event where God is revealed, an event to be described in pneumatological terms that can not be warranted by any methodological effort.

Abstract:
This research investigates the possible effects of certain experiences that cross over the identifications and representations of Being, implied on Jacques Lacans concept of feminine enjoyment and also regarding the overcoming of metaphysics in Martin Heideggers concept of Being-there (Dasein), which refers to an unconcealment experience in which Being bursts out with a singular strangeness (das Ereignis). We aim to clarify the clinical purposes and transformative effects on the pathological treatments which psychoanalysis may convey on the overflow experiences of Being beyond phallic signification. Therefore, the adopted methodology was to study the work of two of the twentieth centurys leading exponents in the fields of philosophy and psychoanalysis who legitimize, each in their own way, the formalization and the understanding of the following idea: that the inner being of man is out of his imaginary or representative reach, and by being inner and outer at the same time, Being is extimity. At first, we clarified how a strange possibility of enjoyment of extimacy or of the ek-sistence of Being is formulated in the works of Heidegger between 1927 and 1966, as well as in Lacans theory, especially within the clipping of his seminar 20 (1972-73). Thus, supported by those two paradigms, in our last chapter we could reflect about certain challenges that the unspeakable Being brings to the clinical situation. As the outcome of our research, we argue that the concept of Being in lacanian psychoanalysis is held by the concept of enjoyment in its two forms: firstly, as the Being of significance related to the phallic enjoyment of neurotic fantasy and, secondly, as the unrepresentable Other, related to the experience of extimacy within feminine enjoyment. As effects of this unknown enjoyment, devoid of object representation, the subjects identifications, as well as the symbolic symptoms bindings, would helplessly flow through; which characterizes them as experiences that could elapse productive indeterminacy effects. Finally, after studying the problems of Being and of the Unspeakable in clinical practice, we conclude that due to the unspeakable outflow of 11 Being through the perspective of certain experiences of indetermination, it is possible to break, as we understand it, the reductionist interpretation of psychoanalysis in which the monoculturalistic and phallocentric perspective could clinically perpetuate the effects of the subject in exclusively phallic-objectal relations with its Being. We finally stand for the importance of a psychoanalytical listening also capable of differentiating Being and object, as long as psychoanalysts look out for an opening of Being beyond the Phallus

This present work purposes a comprehension and an interpretation of a specific subject gathered on reading of the works of German philosopher Martin Heidegger, especially in that named Beiträge zur Philosophie: vom Ereignis. This subject was worked in the light of religion philosophy horizon and is called “the leap between the beginnings of thought”. From this subject, we could glimpse the possibility to inscribe the being’s thought in another measurement, which related to the leap. The measurement of the leap is that allows us to do a speech about being, not only from metaphysical philosophy but also shading in other possibility to say the Being truth, His essential event. On horizon of the measurement that oscillates between the same and the other, gathered of the leap between the beginnings of thought speech, the religious dimension is glimpsed through own experience to do a speech about being, that is, about the start from the beginning of thought.

The goal of this thesis is to analyze Heideggers confrontation with Plato, regarding the two fundamental words of platonic metaphysics, idea and aletheia. The first chapter studies the hermeneutical horizon in which occurs this confrontation, in the context of the second phase of Heideggers work, after the turn (Kehre) of his thought: a historical-ontological meditation able to leap to the unthought of the other beginning, by destroying the history of ontology based on the metaphysics of the idea, that constitutes the first beginning. The second chapter deals with the concept of idea, in its multiples aspects: metaphysical, ontological, theological, eidetic, optic and dualistic. The notion of idea imply a historical transition in the philosophical meaning of truth, considered no more as aletheia, but as correspondence of thought with the idea, the entity of beings. This is the object of the third chapter, which relates the event of appropriation of being (Ereignis) with the historical-ontological truth of physis and with the metaphysical truth of idea.

Abstract:
In Time and being Heidegger describes the emotional character of the ontological structure of existence as a Befindlichkeit. The state of mind occurs on the ontical experience of everyday as a Stimmung, which in its phenomenological function as formal indication defers to the ontological structure of Dasein. The relation between them seems to be that of simple accompaniment. Within the turn this relation undergoes a reversal, so that the term Befindlichkeit itself disappears to leave only the Stimmung. While in 1926 the onticity of Stimmung was considered inauthentic, within the Kehre, however, this ontical layer always emotionally disposed, reveals the access to the original in the Daseins facticity. The ontic-ontological structure unfolds the ambiguity of truths as duplicity of the emotional openness of Dasein, so that it would have definitely been perceived in the early 1930’s as ontical Stimmung. In this way Heidegger strengthens its function, so far as to make it indispensable for the preparation of the other beginning of thinking. If the representational thinking depends on the Grundstimmung of the first beginning, as well as on the fact that metaphysics do not question ask about the truth of being, but rather pursue the question of the entity until the calculating thought of the technological epoch, then the thought of the other beginning must not only forbid the representation, but also, at the same time, rediscover the disclosing essence of the image. Once poetry is understood as original language, poetry’s use of image offers the possibility to bring the appropriative event to the language without objectifying it. The ability to safeguard the being into a word that does not represent it but just states it, indicating its happening, depends on the correct understanding of the event’s character of Stimmungen

Griffiths, Dominic Heath. "'A raid on the inarticulate': exploring authenticity, ereignis and dwelling in Martin Heidegger and T.S. Eliot." Thesis, University of Auckland, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/2292/19000.

Abstract:
This thesis explores, thematically and chronologically, the substantial concordance between the work of Martin Heidegger and T.S. Eliot. The introduction traces Eliot's ideas of the 'objective correlative' and 'situatedness' to a familiarity with German Idealism. Heidegger shared this familiarity, suggesting a reason for the similarity of their thought. Chapter one explores the 'authenticity' developed in Being and Time, as well as associated themes like temporality, the 'they' (Das Man), inauthenticity, idle talk and angst, and applies them to interpreting Eliot's poem, 'The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock'. Both texts depict a bleak Modernist view of the early twentieth-century Western human condition, characterized as a dispiriting nihilism and homelessness. Chapter two traces the chronological development of Ereignis in Heidegger's thinking, showing the term's two discernible but related meanings: first our nature as the 'site of the open' where Being can manifest, and second individual 'Events' of 'appropriation and revelation'. The world is always happening as 'event', but only through our appropriation by the Ereignis event can we become aware of this. Heidegger finds poetry, the essential example of language as the 'house of Being', to be the purest manifestation of Ereignis, taking as his examples Holderlin and Rilke. A detailed analysis of Eliot's late work Four Quartets reveals how Ereignis, both as an ineluctable and an epiphanic condition of human existence, is central to his poetry, confirming, in Heidegger's words, 'what poets are for in a destitute time', namely to re-found and restore the wonder of the world and existence itself. This restoration results from what Eliot calls 'raid[s] on the inarticulate', the poet's continual striving to enact that openness to Being through which human language and the human world continually come to be. The final chapter shows how both Eliot and Heidegger value a genuine relationship with place as enabling human flourishing. Both distrust technological materialism, which destroys our sense of the world as dwelling place, and both are essentially committed to a genuinely authentic life, not the angstful authenticity of Being and Time, but a richer belonging which affirms our relationship with the earth, each other and our gods.

Abstract:
The present work treats the problem of language and translation along with Martin Heidegger, grounding itself in the Heraclitean notion of logos. The latter allows us to discover the fact that our speech is anticipated by a more originary one, namely the being of beings. Logos becomes thus a name for the relation between being and man. Yet considering the fact that man holds himself inauthentically in this relation, the most important question is how to attain a possible authenticity, which can only take place as a leap towards the concealment of being itself, and what Heidegger associates with the term Ereignis. By interpreting this notion in its connection with the history of being, following the reading of Reiner Schürmann, we discover the realm of silence which the Greeks and their thinking of logos could not unveil, and which sets a new ground for the problem of language. The aim is to show that the abode, i.e. the unfolding (Wesen) of language figures a special kind of relation ; moreover, it represents the most originary way in which the relation as such should be conceived, namely as translation. Far from possessing the general meaning we usually ascribe to it, the word translation acquires thus its sense from the unfolding of language itself, which is to be thought as a passage from the silence of being to the sonority of human language, indeed as translation of silence into sound, which proves to be a harmonic and tearing relation at the same time. On the basis of this description it becomes possible to reinterpret the “logical” relation between man and being through language and to draw a great number of consequences for the general praxis of translation between languages. Given that the idea of relation essentially implies an otherness, the research is constantly oriented towards an ethical approach of language and translation, bringing at the end Heidegger’s thinking in dialogue with Jacques Derrida on the field of hospitality

Abstract:
Nowadays, event processing is becoming the backbone of many applications. Therefore, it is necessary to provide suitable abstractions to properly modularize the concerns that appear in event-driven applications. We identify four categories of languages that support event-driven programming, and identify their shortcomings in achieving modularity in the implementation of applications. We propose gummy modules and their implementation in the GummyJ language as a solution. Gummy modules have well-defined event-based interfaces, and can have a primitive or a composite structure. Composite gummy modules are means to group a set of correlated event processing concerns and restrict the visibility of events among them. We provide an example usage of gummy modules, and discuss their event processing semantics.

Ruin, Hans. "Enigmatic origins : tracing the theme of historicity through Heidegger's works." Doctoral thesis, Stockholms universitet, Filosofiska institutionen, 1994. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:su:diva-40008.

Full text
Abstract:
The preoccupation with the "historicity" of thought and existence is central to thehermeneutic-phenomenological branch of modern philosophy. Its foremostrepresentative is Martin Heidegger, who in his main work Sein und Zeit (1927)developed a theory of historicity, according to which human beings not only exist inhistory, but are themselves historical. In subsequent writings Heidegger argued thatnot only man, but also truth and being, must be understood "historically" in aparticular sense. The meaning and the impHcations of Heidegger's "historicization" ofphilosophy are here analyzed along two parallel tracks: as a theory of the conditions ofphilosophical understanding; second, as an incentive to new ways of respondingphilosophically to these conditions. The study focuses on the sense of belongingwhich Heidegger assigns to historicity, as a dialogical relation to an enigmatic originthat cannot be exhaustively articulated, but to which understanding must neverthelessrespond in repetition and critique. The idea of the "hermeneutic situation," and what itmeans to occupy such a situation, is shown to be central in this regard. Heidegger's"historicization" of the philosophical territory is inte reted as an exemplary attempt topreserve philosophy as a quest for "origins" in the explicit recognition of theinterminable historical mediation of thinking. His approach leads to a criticalquestioning of fundamental philosophical distinctions, such as the temporal and theeternal, the absolute and the relative, subject and object, and of truth as correspondence.Eventually he is led to question the ability of language to express thehistoricity of thought and of being, which can only be indicated by means of conceptssuch as "moment" (Augenblick) and "event" (Ereignis). In seven chapters the themeof historicity is explored from different angles, which together provide a guide toHeidegger's path from a philosophy of life to a thinking of being in the "otherbeginning." The study covers the full range of his writings, but it emphasizes thedevelopment from the earliest lectures, over Sein und Zeit, to the second major work,Beiträge zur Philosophie (1938, published posthumously in 1989).

Abstract:
SUMMARY HEIDEGGER‘S BEING‘S LIKE AN EVENT INTERPRETATION IN VATTIMO PHILOSOPHY In this thesis we introduce the Heideggerian interpretation of being‘s like an event (Ereignis) in the philosophical approach of italian postmodern thinker Gianni Vattimo. By following the hermeneutical principle we seek to trace the influence of the conception of Ereignis in the Vattimo‘s approach and the following interpretation of that idea. In the our reading of Vattimo the conception of the being as an event, transforms itself to the conception of the weakening of being. The concept of weakening in the philosophy of Vattimo calls to the movement opposite to the metaphysics. It is an antifundamental state. On the ontological field it appears as the weakening of the being, whereas on the philosophical one as the weak thinking. That means the postmodern conception of the ontological hermeneutics. The idea of being as an event implicates the transition from the metapysical thinking to the postmetaphysical, because the so called clearness of the being conception is canceleed. For Heidegger the being is being tought as an event on the point when thinking itself can not be identificated on a constant level. The conception of event in approach of Heidegger is linked to the essence of the technics Ge-stell, because in the technics the being is availlable as an event for the first time. In a paradoxal way there is the forgetfulness of being which lies in technics as well as the salvation from... [to full text]
