Abstract:
This Alert Collector column for RUSQ’s special issue “Trusted Information in an Age of Uncertainty” is not going to be the usual list of great resources to add to your collection. In fact, despite a broadly distributed call for Alert Collector columns for this special issue, no one took me up. I do not blame them! At the suggestion of the editor of RUSQ, I decided to put together a “think” piece on fake news as it relates to collection development. I am not going to propose any radical or innovative approaches to how librarians develop collections for the purpose of battling fake news. I do not feel such an approach is possible. What I do want to do in this column is reaffirm and highlight things that I know many of my colleagues are already doing and have been trying to do since the dawn of collection building in libraries.—Editor

Abstract:
<p>Vehicle routing problem (VRP) is a fundamental combinatorial optimization and integer programming problem with several important applications. The VRP is usually solved by using branch-and-bound techniques requiring solving a shortest path problem with resource constraints (SPPRC) and the determination of a lower bound, which can be computed by using column generation. The SPPRC entails finding the minimum cost elementary path in a valuated graph that is subject to constraints on resource consumption. The proposed exact solutions to this hard NP-hard problem require an excessive computation time which increases with the number of resources. In this paper, we propose a new approximate resolution of the SPPRC for acyclic and cyclic graphs. Our method is based on a Lagrangian relaxation of a subset of the constraints and using dominance only on a subset of the resources. This reduces the search space and allows users to efficiently compute solutions used to improve the column generation procedure. Extensive evaluation and comparison to the classical exact method show that the proposed algorithm achieves a good compromise between efficiency and quality of the SPPRC and the VRP solutions. Thus, our method can be used for practical large-scale VRP applications.</p>

Abstract:
This entry of the “Vulnerable Spectator” column draws upon Jennifer Fox's autobiographical film The Tale (2018), which struggles with the filmmaker's memories of the 1970s, in order to reconsider the 1974 film Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (dir. Martin Scorsese). Situating Alice within the history of women's contributions to US commercial film production and feminist film theory, Hastie argues both for a recognition of Ellen Burstyn's authorial role in regard to the film and for a more expansive theoretical and historiographic practice in relation to the era. This column kicks off a series of VS columns that will revisit U.S. films of the 1970s in order to understand their historical, theoretical, and contemporary relevance.

Abstract:
Abstract. A statistical framework to evaluate the performance of chemistry-climate models with respect to the interaction between meteorology and column ozone during northern hemisphere mid-winter, in particularly January, is used. Different statistical diagnostics from four chemistry-climate models (E39C, ME4C, UMUCAM, ULAQ) are compared with the ERA-40 re-analysis. First, we analyse vertical coherence in geopotential height anomalies as described by linear correlations between two different pressure levels (30 and 200 hPa) of the atmosphere. In addition, linear correlations between column ozone and geopotential height anomalies at 200 hPa are discussed to motivate a simple picture of the meteorological impacts on column ozone on interannual timescales. Secondly, we discuss characteristic spatial structures in geopotential height and column ozone anomalies as given by their first two empirical orthogonal functions. Finally, we describe the covariance patterns between reconstructed anomalies of geopotential height and column ozone. In general we find good agreement between the models with higher horizontal resolution (E39C, ME4C, UMUCAM) and ERA-40. The Pacific-North American (PNA) pattern emerges as a useful qualitative benchmark for the model performance. Models with higher horizontal resolution and high upper boundary (ME4C and UMUCAM) show good agreement with the PNA tripole derived from ERA-40 data, including the column ozone modulation over the Pacfic sector. The model with lowest horizontal resolution does not show a classic PNA pattern (ULAQ), and the model with the lowest upper boundary (E39C) does not capture the PNA related column ozone variations over the Pacific sector. Those discrepancies have to be taken into account when providing confidence intervals for climate change integrations.

Abstract:
The arrival of the 5G era has promoted the need for filters of different bandwidths. Thin-film bulk acoustic resonators have become the mainstream product for applications due to their excellent performance. The Keff2 of the FBAR greatly influences the bandwidth of the filter. In this paper, we designed an AlN-based adjustable Keff2 FBAR by designing parallel capacitors around the active area of the resonator. The parallel capacitance is introduced through the support column structure, which is compatible with conventional FBAR processes. The effects of different support column widths on Keff2 were verified by finite element simulation and experimental fabrication. The measured results show that the designed FBAR with support columns can achieve a Keff2 value that is 25.9% adjustable.

Abstract. Vertical and latitudinal changes in the stratospheric ozone in the post-chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) era are investigated using simulations of the recent past and the 21st century with a coupled chemistry-climate model. Model results reveal that, in the 2060s when the stratospheric halogen loading is projected to return to its 1980 values, the extratropical column ozone is significantly higher than that in 1975–1984, but the tropical column ozone does not recover to 1980 values. Upper and lower stratospheric ozone changes in the post-CFC era have very different patterns. Above 15 hPa ozone increases almost latitudinally uniformly by 6 Dobson Unit (DU), whereas below 15 hPa ozone decreases in the tropics by 8 DU and increases in the extratropics by up to 16 DU. The upper stratospheric ozone increase is a photochemical response to greenhouse gas induced strong cooling, and the lower stratospheric ozone changes are consistent with enhanced mean advective transport due to a stronger Brewer-Dobson circulation. The model results suggest that the strengthening of the Brewer-Dobson circulation plays a crucial role in ozone recovery and ozone distributions in the post-CFC era.

Abstract:
Abstract. We have used an off-line three-dimensional (3-D) chemical transport model (CTM) to study long-term changes in stratospheric O3. The model was run from 1977–2004 and forced by ECMWF ERA-40 and operational analyses. Model runs were performed to examine the impact of increasing halogens and additional stratospheric bromine from short-lived source gases. The analyses capture much of the observed interannual variability in column ozone, but there are also unrealistic features. In particular the ERA-40 analyses cause a large positive anomaly in northern hemisphere (NH) column O3 in the late 1980s. Also, the change from ERA-40 to operational winds at the start of 2002 introduces abrupt changes in some model fields which affect analysis of trends. The model reproduces the observed column increase in NH mid-latitudes from the mid 1990s. Analysis of a run with fixed halogens shows that this increase is not due to a significant decrease in halogen-induced loss, i.e. is not an indication of recovery. The model predicts only a small decrease in halogen-induced loss after 1999. In the upper stratosphere, despite the modelled turnover of chlorine around 1999, O3 does not increase to the effects of increasing ECMWF temperatures, decreasing modelled CH4 at this altitude, and abrupt changes to the SH temperatures at the end of the ERA-40 period. The impact of an additional 5 pptv stratospheric bromine from short-lived species decreases mid-latitude column O3 by about 10 DU. However, the impact on the modelled relative O3 anomaly is generally small except during periods of large volcanic loading.

"Le challenge de l’analyse multi-résidus de perturbateurs endocriniens à activité estrogénique dans les fluides et tissus biologiques humains : Choix de stratégies de préparation des échantillons et de mesure par spectrométrie de masse." Abstract:
For over twenty years, the issue of endocrine disruptors (EDs) mobilizes the scientific community and public authorities because of the negative effects, actual or suspected, of these compounds on human health. In particular, the generation of internal exposure data (impregnation) in some subpopulations, which are recognized or assumed as being sensitive (pregnant women, fetuses, infants), is both a priority and a demanding field associated with a certain rarity. Considering their structural diversity and with regards to their physicochemical properties, the simultaneous analysis of a large panel of EDs remains a real analytical challenge. In this context, the objective of this work was to develop a multi-residue method for the simultaneous isolation and measurement of estrogenic endocrine disruptors (13 EDs in total). Firstly, an analysis method using liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) after chemical derivatisation by dansyl chloride was developed. Secondly, a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP with phenolic imprint) was implemented for the simultaneous extraction of the targeted EDs from aqueous medium and biological matrices of increasing complexity (urine, serum, breast milk). The strategy developed on MIP was applied, after validation, to a set of samples (maternal serum, cord serum and urine of newborns). Finally, a column support grafted with estrogen receptor α (ERα column) was applied for the simultaneous isolation of the targeted compounds from an aqueous medium

This study analyzes the journalistic work of Otto Lara Resende (1922 1992) based on columns he published in the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo from 1991 to 1992. It describes the support in which the columns exist the newspaper and discusses the importance of this writing genre for the periodicals. It also provides an overview of journalistic columns in Brazil, describing influences evinced by the columns over the decades. Some of the 523 columns that Otto Lara Resende wrote for the Folha de S.Paulo are selected to demonstrate features of this columnist s writing, such as irony, criticism and the use of day-to-day life. The texts by Otto concerning the Collor Era, a period of recent Brazilian history marked by intense activity by the press, are given a special focus. Having arisen in France at the end of the 19th century, the practice of writing and publishing columns soon arrived in Brazil, and with the overall development of the press in the 20th century the column s role was consolidated and took on peculiarities that became established as distinctively Brazilian characteristics. The newspaper column has been a starting point for various writers who became known for their column writing, including Rubem Braga, Paulo Mendes Campos, Antônio Maria and Otto Lara Resende himself. He was a journalist in the widest sense of the term having worked in all sectors of newspaper production: reporting, editing, report planning, editorials and authored several books including O Braço Direito and Boca do Inferno. His last columns display striking characteristics, as described in this study. His columns for the Folha are a good example of the blending of different fields journalism and literature which is typical of Brazilian periodicals, giving rise to reflections on current journalistic practice

Abstract:
The invocation of fifth columns in the political arena—whether contrived or based on real fears—has historically recurred periodically and is experiencing an upsurge in our era of democratic erosion and geopolitical uncertainty. Fifth-column accusations can have baleful effects on governance and trust, as they call into question the loyalty and belonging of the targeted populations. Enemies Within is the first book to systematically investigate the roots and implications of the politics of fifth columns. In this volume, a multidisciplinary group of leading scholars addresses several related questions: When are actors likely to employ fifth-column claims and against whom? What accounts for changes in fifth-column framing over time? How do the claims and rhetoric of governments differ from those of societal groups? How do accusations against ethnically or ideologically defined groups differ? Finally, how do actors labeled as fifth columns respond? To answer these questions, the contributors apply a common theoretical framework and work within the tradition of qualitative social science to analyze cases from three continents, oftentimes challenging conventional wisdom. Enemies Within offers a unique perspective to better understand contemporary challenges including the return of chauvinistic nationalism, the weakening of democratic norms, and the persecution of minorities and political dissidents.

Abstract:
There are eight columns in the Periodic Table. The eighth column is comprised of the rare gases, so-called because they are the rarest elements on earth. They are also called the inert or noble gases because, like nobility, they do no work. They are colorless, odorless, invisible gases which do not react with anything, and were thought to be unimportant until the early 1960s. Starting in that era, David Fisher has spent roughly fifty years doing research on these gases, publishing nearly a hundred papers in the scientific journals, applying them to problems in geophysics and cosmochemistry, and learning how other scientists have utilized them to change our ideas about the universe, the sun, and our own planet. Much Ado about (Practically) Nothing will cover this spectrum of ideas, interspersed with the author's own work which will serve to introduce each gas and the important work others have done with them. The rare gases have participated in a wide range of scientific advances-even revolutions-but no book has ever recorded the entire story. Fisher will range from the intricacies of the atomic nucleus and the tiniest of elementary particles, the neutrino, to the energy source of the stars; from the age of the earth to its future energies; from life on Mars to cancer here on earth. A whole panoply that has never before been told as an entity.

Abstract:
This book maps the interplay of conservative and feminist women in Indiana during the second half of the twentieth century and proposes an alternative framework for understanding the second wave feminist movement. The central theme is that rightwing women’s understanding of one-worldism--a conspiracy theory refined by grassroots anticommunists during the height of the Cold War--shaped conservative women’s response to the second wave feminist movement and circumscribed feminist activism. Over the course of the postwar era, anticommunist organizations like the Minute Women of the U.S.A., Pro America, and the John Birch Society provided a forum for rightwing women to develop their understanding of related forces pushing for a “one-world,” totalitarian supra-government, forces they described as treasonous. While communists often were lumped under the “one-worlder” category, the two were not synonymous. In literature rightwing women described a spectrum of subversion that included a fifth column but also those advocating domestic cooperation through federal regionalism, gender equality as opposed to gender difference, and internationalists advocating stronger authority for the United Nations. The book documents the work of Hoosier feminists to accomplish their goals, especially the Equal Rights Amendment, in a hostile political environment and the work of rightwing women to counter the threat of internationalism or one-worldism, culminating in a showdown at the 1977 International Women’s Year celebration.

AbstractIntroducing the main concepts of ERA Acute, this chapter describes the overall framework and purpose of the methodology. ERA Acute is a recently developed oil spill risk assessment (OSRA) methodology for quantification of oil spill impacts and risk (Environmental Risk Assessment, ERA). It covers four environmental compartments; sea surface (seabirds, turtles, marine mammals), water column (fish eggs/larvae), shoreline and seafloor (species and habitats) using continuous impact functions and introduces the Resource Damage Factor (RDF). The methodology depends on external oil spill modelling and input data related to the presence and vulnerability of Valued Ecosystem Components (VECs). ERA Acute is developed to provide an improvement over the currently used “MIRA” method on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) and is better suited for risk management, decision-making and analyses from screening studies to full environmental risk assessments.

AbstractDou Gong, pronounced in Chinese, and known as Bracket Set, is a vital support component in the ancient wooden tectonic systems. It is located between the column and the beam and connects the eave and pillar, making the heavy roof extend out of the eaves longer. The development of the bracket set is entirely a microcosm of the development of ancient Chinese architecture; the aesthetic structure and oriental artistic temperament behind the bracket make it gradually become the cultural and spiritual symbol of traditional Chinese architecture. In the contemporary era, inheriting and developing the bracket set has become an essential issue. This paper introduces the topological optimization method bi-directional evolutionary structural optimization (BESO) for form-finding. Through analyzing the development trend of bracket set and mechanical structure, the authors integrate 2D and 3D optimization methods and apply the hybrid methods to form-finding. This research aims to design a new bracket set corresponding to “structural performance-based aesthetics.“ The workflow proposed in this paper is valuable for architrave and other traditional building components.

Abstract:
In this present era, where everything is getting digitalized, information or data in any form, important to an organization or individual, are at a greater risk of being attacked under acts, commonly known as cyber-attack. Hence, a proper and more efficient cryptosystem is the prime need of the hour to secure the data (especially the image data). This chapter proposes an efficient multi-point crossover operation-based chaotic image encryption system to secure images. The multi-point crossover operation is performed on both the rows and columns of bit-planes in the images. The improved one-dimensional chaotic maps are then used to perform pixel-permutation and diffusion operations. The main advantage of this technique is the use of multi-point crossover operation in bit-levels. The multi-point crossover operation not only increases the security of cipher images but also increases the key space of the algorithm. The outcomes and analyses of various parameters show the best performance of the algorithm in image encryption and different common attacks.

Abstract:
This chapter investigates the ways in which the post-2010 Fidesz government under Viktor Orbán used antisemitic tropes to configure George Soros—once hailed as a champion of market reform, freedom, and democracy—as an ontological threat to the Hungarian nation that should therefore be expunged from the country, together with “his networks,” including the Open Society Institute and Central European University. To show the government’s communication strategy in action, we combined an analysis of antisemitic discourse on the far right with a media content analysis of Sorosozás in government-backed online news portals from 2015 to 2020. We show that, from 2010, Orbán and his media allies discursively interpellated specific individuals and states as “financiers” and “global powers” as cogs in a global “Soros network.” In doing so, they drew upon well-established fifth-column narratives originally constructed and refined by ideologists from the Kádár era who employed a latent antisemitic code in their writing. At one time vehemently rejecting such discourse, Orbán and his government allies have become its chief articulators with devastating effects for one of his targets—the Central European University in Budapest.

Abstract:
Although Ankara gained international attention mainly after its declaration as Capital of the Turkish Republic in 1923, the city hosts many buildings and monuments from different historical eras. The remains of Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman Empires discovered in the center of the city, clearly bear witness to the rich and diverse heritage of the capital. However, this heritage appears as less documented, studied and even not properly conserved. The citadel of Ankara, which dominates the narrow streets of the old city has withstood its long history very well and today houses a small neighborhood made up of valuable Ottoman wooden buildings. The link to the Roman and Medieval periods is still tangible. The Roman theatre remains at the foot of the hill are still observable, while the stone columns and beams used in the construction of the walls in a later era. The aim of this paper is to document and present the different historical eras of the castle, focusing on the remains of the medieval era. Analyzing the key features of the castle and the previous intervention on it will support the identification of the potentials of the site. Finally, recommendations for future work of architectural preservation will be elaborated on the basis of national and international conservation guidelines.

Abstract:
Abstract Objective/Scope Amine Regenerator column is in operation since 1980 and severe internal corrosion / erosion observed since 2000 and subsequent local shell course replacement in 2015 and 2017 were done. Therefore, to avoid frequent maintenance and repair cost and to ensure long-term measure of integrity and availability of the equipment, it was concluded to replace the existing CS column with enhanced metallurgy Methods, Procedures, Process The convectional approach of replacing the full column with CS +SS 3mm clad material which typically take around 12 month schedule for fabrication activities in dedicated shutdown in 2021. In addition, this replacement was planned to include replacement of full internals of amine column, existing foundation, pipe support and platform. Moreover, the execution strategy planned to be through FEED/EPC. However, looking for enhanced metallurgy and studying the local market stock of raw material and manufacturer have a big role to carry out the replacement job in planned shutdown in 2020 and within planned budget. Results, Observations & Conclusions The solution in going with solid SS vessel instead of clad will not only improve integrity but also will lead to enhanced schedule into 6.5 months and it is the most commercially attractive option. Moreover, going with solid SS material will reduce the fabrication time and avoid the issues associated with cladded materials and the requirements of the NDT due to welding job. In addition, it was planned to replace partially the column internals after reviewing the inspection history instead of replacing them fully. Further, the column and column internals procurement were accomplish with in in-house resources. The installation job of column, column internals, and foundation carried out within available planed June 2020 shutdown. The development of execution strategy/in-house engineering led to avoid of 35-days unit 2021 shutdown. Also, achieving direct cost saving of USD 1 million in procurement of Column and Column Internal from the planned budget. Further, the availability of SS solid material in UAE ex-stock and local manufacturer, were considered in minimizing the transportation and delivery schedule. Novel/Additive Information The column replacement was the solution to tackle the repetitive corrosion/ thickness loss failures in the vessel. The way forward of replacing full column with SS solid material will improve integrity, enhanced delivery schedule, commercially it is an attractive option and has direct support to ADNOC ICV strategy. Hence, this job will avoid the dedicated 35 days in 2021 shutdown and accordingly the revenues losses of OPCOs shutdown

Abstract:
Abstract Single column failure [1], one of the complex failure modes in SRAM is possibly induced by multiform defect types at diverse locations. Especially, soft single column failure is of great complexity. As physical failure analysis (PFA) is expensive and time-consuming, thorough electrical failure analysis (EFA) is needed to precisely localize the failing area to greater precision before PFA. The methodology involves testing for failure mode validation, understanding the circuit and using EFA tools such as IR-OBIRCH (InfraRed-Optical Beam Induced Resistance CHange) and MCT (MerCad Telluride, HgCdTe) for analysis. However, the electrical failure signature for soft single column failure is usually marginal, so additional techniques are needed to obtain accurate isolation and electrical characterization instead of blindly looking around. Thus in this discussion, we will also present the use of internal probing techniques like C-AFM [2] (Conductive Atomic Force Microscopy) and a nanoprobing technique [3] for characterizing electrical properties and understanding the root cause.

Crouch, Rebecca, Jared Smith, Bobbi Stromer, Christian Hubley, Samuel Beal, Guilherme Lotufo, Afrachanna Butler, et al. Methods for simultaneous determination of legacy and insensitive munition (IM) constituents in aqueous, soil/sediment, and tissue matrices. Engineer Research and Development Center (U.S.), August 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.21079/11681/41720.

Full text
Abstract:
Currently, no standard method exists for analyzing insensitive munition (IM) compounds in environmental matrices, with or without concurrent legacy munition compounds, resulting in potentially inaccurate determinations. The primary objective of this work was to develop new methods of extraction, pre-concentration, and analytical separation/quantitation of 17 legacy munition compounds along with several additional IM compounds, IM breakdown products, and other munition compounds that are not currently included in U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 8330B. Analytical methods were developed to enable sensitive, simultaneous detection and quantitation of the 24 IM and legacy compounds, including two orthogonal high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) column separations with either ultraviolet (UV) or mass spectrometric (MS) detection. Procedures were developed for simultaneous extraction of all 24 analytes and two surrogates (1,2-dinitrobenzene, 1,2-DNB; o-NBA) from high- and low-level aqueous matrices and solid matrices, using acidification, solid phase extraction (SPE), or solvent extraction (SE), respectively. The majority of compounds were recovered from four tissue types within current limits for solids, with generally low recovery only for Tetryl (from 4 to 62%). A preparatory chromatographic interference removal procedure was adapted for tissue extracts, as various analytical interferences were observed for all studied tissue types.

Abstract:
In July 2021 the Southeast Coast Network conducted an assessment of water quality in the vicinity of Cape Hatteras and Cape Lookout National Seashores as part of the National Park Service Vital Signs Monitoring Program. Monitoring was conducted following methods developed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as part of the National Coastal Assessment Program (EPA 2010). Laboratory analysis measured chlorophyll a and total and dissolved concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorous. Field measurements included water temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, and salinity. Water clarity, which requires a Secchi depth measurement, was obtained when possible. All measured parameters were rated as good, fair, or poor based on thresholds set by the EPA (2012). All measured parameters were rated as good, fair, or poor based on thresholds set by the EPA (2012). Water clarity was not calculated at all sites due to the shallow depth of the water in the sound. Of the sites where water clarity could be assessed (5 sites), four measured good and one fair. Sites that were too shallow to measure water clarity had water column conditions that did not preclude light from penetrating to the bottom of the water body so no ecological effects would be expected.Turbidity measurements ranged from 1.0 to 8.0 FNU (Formazin Nephelometric Units) and are good (i.e. < 25 NTU [Nephelometric Turbidity Units]) according to North Carolina Standards (NC Administrative Code 2019). Note that turbidity units of FNU and NTU are roughly equivalent. Chlorophyll a concentration was rated good at 29 sites (97%), and fair at one site (3%). Dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) concentration was good at all 30 sites (100%). Dissolved inorganic phosphorus (DIP) concentration was good at all 30 sites (100%). Dissolved oxygen concentration (bottom) was rated good at all 30 sites (100%). A water-quality condition summary index was calculated for each site sampled at Cape Hatteras and Cape Lookout National Seashores based on the categorical assessments of chlorophyll a, DIN and DIP concentrations, dissolved oxygen, and water clarity. This summary index indicated good water-quality conditions at all thirty sites (100%). Based on the summary water-quality index rating, overall water-quality conditions at Cape Hatteras and Cape Lookout National Seashores during sampling in 2021 were good. For sediment, ecological condition was ranked as good at 30 sites (100%). As a result, no adverse impacts to benthic organisms due to sediment contamination are anticipated at any of the sampled sites. This ranking was assigned according to the 2010 Environmental Protection Agency, National Coastal Condition Assessment (NCCA) thresholds for sediment chemistry.

Abstract:
Subject of the article’s study – ecumenism of Metropolitan Andrei Sheptytskyi and reflection of this phenomenon in the works of scientists and modern Ukrainian media. Main objective of the study: analyze what Ukrainian scientists, journalists and different media are writing about Sheptytkyi’s ecumenism. Methodology: We used a bibliographic method to accumulate factual material, a qualitative content analysis to isolate the ideas of ecumenism from the journalism of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytskyi, a cultural-historical method that made it possible to consider the ideas of ecumenism in the context of the era, the connection with the historical context, as well as methods of synthesis and generalization, induction and deduction. The study process description: In our scientific article, we analyzed the doctoral dissertation of His Beatitude Lubomyr Huzar entitled «Andrei Sheptytskyi, Metropolitan of Halytskyi (1901-1944). Herald of ecumenism». His Beatitude Lubomyr defended this fundamental work at the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome back in 1972. Therefore, we observed how this work reflects the historical prerequisites, features and development of Sheptytskyi’s ecumenism, who, according to His Beatitude Lubomir, was a kind of innovator in this field, a person who was ahead of his time. We also analyzed the reflections on the ecumenism of Sheptytskyi´s father, doctor Ivan Datsk, which are reflected in his book «In Search of Faithfulness and Truth». In addition, we turned to the scientific text «Ecumenism of Sheptytskyi» by professors Mykola Vegesh and Mykola Palinchak. Subsequently, it was analyzed how the scientific work became a useful basis for the coverage of Sheptytskyi’s ecumenism in the press. In particular, in the columns of the cultural and social site «Zbruch» in Diana Motruk’s article «In Search of Church Unity». We also turned to the «Spiritual Greatness of Lviv» website, where in 2020 an interview with Mykhailo Perun, who shot the film «Sheptytskyi: Relevant information», was published, illustrating the ecumenical initiatives of this figure. In addition, we analyzed the publication on Radio Svoboda for 2022, dedicated to the anniversary of Sheptytsky’s stepping into eternity. It is also mentioned there about of Sheptytskyi’s ecumenism as his landmark activity. Subsequently, we found an article on the website «Christian and the World», where in a conversation with the scientist Dr. Andrii Sorokovskyi entitled «Andrei Sheptytskyi believed that the union is a synthesis, communion and dialogue between the East and the West, – Andrii Sorokovskyi» also analyzed the phenomenon of Sheptytskyi’s ecumenism. Results: we discovered that Sheptytskyi’s ecumenism was studied not only by numerous scientists, but this meaningful legacy of his is a valuable phenomenon for media coverage. Therefore, Sheptytskyi’s ecumenism becomes the subject of interest of journalists not only of publications that write mainly on church topics, but also socio-political and artistic ones. We are sure that Sheptytskyi’s ecumenism will continue to be studied by professional scientists and representatives of the wider media community. Significance: journalism of a religious orientation, high-quality and substantiated coverage of religious processes and phenomena in the press is still something quite new for modern Ukraine. In Soviet times, journalists were afraid to write about religion in order not to incur the wrath of the authorities, so such materials could not be included in the press. That is why it is very important to study how today’s journalists cover important issues of religion, which, in addition, have a strong scientific basis. In addition, the development of ecumenism and religious unity are extremely important for building national unity, which is necessary for our state to effectively confront the enemy in full-scale war. Key words: ecumenism; Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytskyi; media; interreleigion cooperation; dialogue.

Full text
