López, Martínez Carolina, Espiritu Catherin Ariana Malqui, De Guzman Santisteban Maribel Niño, and Paulino Jean Carlos Talaverano. "Medical Equipment." Bachelor's thesis, Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/10757/654857.
Full textThe purpose of this research work is based on demonstrating that there is a potential market niche, this because currently people seek to take care of their health and that of their relatives through the acquisition of basic medical equipment. However, the people and companies dedicated to this area only focus on the distribution of medical equipment and not on after-sales service. We are known for offering a differentiated and personalized service, for this reason we attend and make deliveries 24 hours a day, our highly trained professionals carry out the accompaniment and monitoring in the use of medical equipment, we also guarantee the satisfaction of our clients by monitoring our after sales service. In the research, qualitative methodology is used, such as; surveys and quantitative type, such as; statistics and variables. Likewise, during the development of our research we have used relevant information extracted from primary and secondary sources. The results of the market research show that 80% of the people who were surveyed made the purchase of medical equipment during the last months. In addition, it was found that the majority of customers have a preference for making their purchases in a virtual way, also, they indicated that the most valued attribute is quality and after-sales service. These results support the development of our business idea, since we have corroborated the problem raised initially. The viability of the project is concluded, since according to the initial scenario of our cash flow for investing 42,525 soles we generated a profit of 267,360 soles, obtaining an internal rate of return of 84.25% as a result of the investment. That said, our research reveals that our project is profitable.

Celestica, a global contract manufacturer specializing in printed circuit board assembly and computer assembly, has recently begun manufacturing equipment for the optical networking equipment (ONE) industry. The expansion to include ONE manufacturing requires the development of new skills in handling optical fiber and components, a new supply chain strategy, and a new approach to manufacturing systems control. Celestica is developing a set of standards for ONE manufacturing that will support the rapid development of the new skills required for this industry. This work outlines the standards and explores the specific issues related to manufacturing with optical fiber, including the mechanical reliability and optical performance of various types of optical fibers. An overview of the telecommunications industry is provided, including an analysis of its supply chain structure. Observations are made on trends in the industry and the ways that these trends have affected Celestica in the past, and could impact Celestica in the future. Finally, Celestica's current approach to manufacturing systems control is evaluated, and suggestions are made for improving systems control and project management when manufacturing for such a rapidly evolving industry.

Rosa, Tiago Miguel Simões. "Flexible LTE user equipment."
Mobile networks are constantly evolving. 4G is the current generation of broadband cellular network technology and is represented by the Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard, de ned by 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). There's a high demand for LTE at the moment, with the number of mobile devices requiring an high-speed Internet connection increasing exponentially. This may overcrowd the spectrum on the existing deployments and the signal needs to be reinforced and coverage improved in speci c sites, such as large conferences, festivals and sport events. On the other hand, it would be an important advantage if users could continue to use their equipment and terminals in situations where cellular networks aren't usually available, such as on board of a cruise ship, sporadic events in remote locations, or in catastrophe scenarios in which the telecommunication infrastructure was damaged and the rapid deployment of a temporary network can save lives. In all of these situations, the availability of exible and easily deployable cellular base stations and user terminals operating on standard or custom bands would be very desirable. Thus, there is a clear motivation for the development of a fully recon gurable cellular infrastructure solution that ful lls these requirements. A possible approach is an open-source, low-cost and low maintenance Software-De ned Radio (SDR) software platform that implements the LTE standard and runs on General Purpose Processors (GPPs), making it possible to build an entire network while only spending money on the hardware itself - computers and Radio-Frequency (RF) front-ends. After comparison and analysis of several open-source LTE SDR platforms, the EURECOM's OpenAirInterface (OAI) was chosen, providing a 3GPP standard-compliant implementation of Release 8.6 (with a subset of Release 10 functionalities). The main goal of this dissertation is the implementation of a exible opensource LTE User Equipment (UE) software radio platform on a compact and low-power Single Board Computer (SBC) device, integrated with an RF hardware front-end - Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP). It supports real-time Time Division Duplex (TDD) and Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) LTE modes and the recon guration of several parameters, namely the carrier frequency, bandwidth and the number of LTE Resource Blocks (RB) used. It can also share its LTE mobile data with nearby users, similarly to a Wi-Fi hotspot. The implementation is described through its several developing steps, including the porting of the UE from a regular computer to a SBC. The performance of the network is then analysed based on measured results of throughput.

Full textFor equipment and systems that are too expensive and too important to fail such as launch vehicles and spacecraft, the actual reliability is dominated by infant mortality failures that occur soon after dynamic environmental ATP that is used to eliminate the equipment that will fail prematurely. Premature equipment failures greatly increase risk getting to space and working in space, slowing down the growth of commercial space tourism. Premature equipment failures occur because during factory ATP, only equipment performance is measured and there is no relationship between equipment performance and equipment reliability. Accelerated aging was documented preceding GPS satellite atomic clock failures during the 10 years of the GPS Block I test and evaluation phase. Prognostic technology leverages the presence of accelerated aging to identify equipment that will fail. A prognostic analysis uses the same prognostic algorithms to convert equipment telemetry used to measure equipment performance to a time-to-failure (TTF) measurement, previously made using a probability distribution function. The equipment with accelerated aging that is present after ATP can be replaced, stopping infant mortality failures from occurring and producing equipment with 100% reliability. When all spacecraft and launch vehicle equipment that will fail prematurely are identified and replaced, satellite and launch vehicle reliability will be 100% and getting to space and working in space will be much safer.

This thesis recommends a China business and equipment strategy for the Controls Conveyor Robotics Welding (CCRW) group at General Motors. The current strategy is to use globally common equipment through predetermined global suppliers. The GM facilities in China, which are jointly owned with non-GM entities, believe that a local sourcing strategy would reduce lead times, transportation costs and increase the level of nearby service and support. These factors are catalyst for GM to reevaluate the current global common strategy. This thesis will provide an overview of the CCRW organization and discuss how the sourcing strategy has evolved through globalization. Due to the large variety of production tooling, this thesis will narrow the focus to two case studies: the first being a Main Control Panel (MCP) and the second being a weld controller. These case studies are used as a method to determine the pros and cons of the current sourcing strategy, where the MCP is a highly integrated design maintained by CCRW HQ and the weld controller is a "blackbox" which CCRW defines the functional specifications and procures "off the shelf' from a predetermined global supplier. Through local China visits, literature review and preliminary cost assessments, it was determined that while local sourcing may be a viable option for both the MCP and weld controller, there is not enough determinate information to commit to a sourcing change in the case of the Main Control Panel. From onsite visits to potential MCP option suppliers in China, it appears that likely "local" arrangements exists, however, further company analysis and validation will need to be conducted to adopt the change.
(cont.) As for the weld controller, the local product variation with the current global supplier (based locally) is recommended and was validated by CCRW weld engineers by the completion of this internship. I The term "Local" will be used throughout this thesis to refer to "China," meaning solutions that are derived from internal to China.

Best Maid is a middle-sized regionally orientated company, headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. It is currently owned and operated by the fourth generation of the Dalton family. The company specializes in the production of pickles and condiment products and currently holds the title of #1 retail brand of pickles in the state of Texas. In addition to the Best Maid label, products are also produced under the Del-Dixie label. The objective of this thesis is to analyze a potential capital project: a bucket line replacement. The analysis will be completed by using net present value to determine the cost and benefits of the project. The focus of the project will be the food service bucket line. The current line was designed and installed over 20 years ago. Currently, this line and supporting resources require a staff of 17 employees to operate. The process is looking to be improved through advances in technology including vibratory conveyors, more complex PLC programming, and increased accuracy of scaling equipment. Implementing these advancements has the potential to reduce the employee labor cost as well as decrease over-scaling. The goal of this project is to inform the Best Maid owners of the investment costs, labor savings, benefits, and the financial viability of the proposed capital investment. Best Maid has consistently grown at a high single digit to low double digit rate each year. Businesses must continually identify and react to the needs of tomorrow, today. Formal processes within the business will be established to evaluate and prioritize future potential projects. The conclusion of the analysis resulted in a positive NPV of about $567 thousand and a favorable IRR. The recommendation is to adopt the new technology.

Capital equipment is a critical component of almost every industry and is used to create valuable goods and services for the end customers. However, the initial cost of acquisition and subsequent running costs associated with these equipment pose a significant barrier to young businesses. While servitizing capital equipment is a proven method of increasing access to these machineries in many high-income countries (HICs), the benefits of servitization often do not extend to low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). In this thesis, I examine the capital equipment ecosystems of both HICs and LMICs, with a focus on the stakeholders involved. I also explore both the challenges facing equipment businesses when operating in LMICs and the innovative solutions being implemented by successful LMIC service businesses. Based on these examples, I offer recommendations for budding service-based equipment business that are working to improve affordable access to capital equipment in resource-constrained settings.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America (TMMNA) is continuing to face an increasingly competitive automobile market. To meet these evolving market conditions, TMMNA has experienced rapid growth in demand for its automobiles in North America. To meet this demand, Toyota has rapidly grown from three assembly plants in the mid- 1990's to its current total of six assembly plants (five in operation with one being built). This has led to many management challenges, including communication, knowledge sharing, and knowledge retention that many companies experience when faced with rapid growth. In order to respond to these challenges, Vehicle Production Engineering (VPE) Assembly, a department within TMMNA, has attempted to develop a process through which it can standardize its processes and capitalize on best practices across the many North American plants. This thesis studied the process through which VPE Assembly develops and installs assembly line equipment for major automobile model changes. This study included observation of the Toyota product development process and how this process is carried out within VPE Assembly. This research revealed that the assembly line equipment process employed by Toyota is well suited for this organization. However, there are improvements available that could improve the overall process and bring automobiles models to the market more quickly. Communication between the different plants could be improved. Additionally, much knowledge learned from completed projects is not being shared fully between the various plants. Suggested improvements to address these problems are discussed.

Full textTo save time in Flextronics high volume production, the time for test and calibration of mobile telephones need to be as short and accurate as possible. In the wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) case, the output power calibration is the most critical calibration concerning accuracy. The aim with this thesis was to find a faster calibration method than the one that exists today and still retain accuracy.
The Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) outlines the requirements of the output power and they must be thoroughly considered when choosing calibration method. Measurement accuracy and the behavior of the transmitter chain parameters also must be considered.
The output power in the WCDMA phone studied is controlled by seven parameters. The parameters are characterized in this thesis, and are found to be too hardware dependent to be predicted or to be seen as predictions from each other.
Since no parameter predictions are possible it was stated that all parameters have to be measured, and a new way of measuring them in a faster way is proposed. The principle of the new measurement method is presented, and the implemented software is tested and evaluated. The new method mainly makes use of the spectrum analyzer zero span function.
The evaluation shows that the new method is faster than the original and retains accuracy. The measurement uncertainties even seem to diminish, which implicates decreased temperature dependence due to faster measurement time.

Full textBlood and tissue velocities are measured and analysed in cardiac, vascular and other applications of diagnostic ultrasound. Errors in system performance might give invalid measurements.
We developed two moving string test targets (“Doppler phantoms”) to characterise ultrasound Doppler systems. These phantoms were initially used to measure such variables as sample volume dimensions, location of the sample volume, and the performance of the spectral analysis. Specific tests were done to detect errors in signal processing causing time delays and inaccurate velocity estimation.
Even time delays as short as 30 ms in cardiac motion pattern may have clinical relevance. These delays can be measured with echocardiography, by using techniques such as flow and tissue Doppler and M-mode together with external signals (e.g., ECG and phonocardiography). If one or more of these signals are delayed in relation to the other signals (asynchronous), an incorrect definition of cardiac time intervals can occur. To determine if this time delay in signal processing is a problem, we tested three commercial ultrasound systems. We used a digital ECG simulator and a Doppler string phantom to obtain test signals. We found time delays of up to 90 ms in one system, whereas delays were mostly short in the other two systems. Further, the time delays varied relative to system settings.
To determine the accuracy in velocity calibration, we tested the same three ultrasound systems using the Doppler phantom to obtain test signals for flow and tissue pulsed Doppler and for continuous wave Doppler. The ultrasound systems were tested with settings and transducers commonly used in cardiac applications. In two systems the observed errors were mostly close to zero, whereas one system systematically overestimated velocity by an average of 4.6%. The detected errors can be considered small in clinical applications but might be serious in certain research applications. It is important to know the velocity error of the used ultrasound system and to judge it in relation to the application in which it is used.

Full textModern physical systems tend to have a high level of complexity that hinders the efficiency of human-based condition monitoring. Automatic and intelligent strategies, on the contrary, easily outperform the human expertise in terms of speed, accuracy and scalability. Focusing on faults, probably the most critical issue in condition monitoring, this paper presents a selected survey on the data-driven Fault Detection and Diagnosis (FDD) field analysed from a data mining perspective.
Data pre-processing is identified as a fundamental step to reach satisfactory results in the FDD process. In this respect, Empirical Mode Decomposition, Wavelet and Walsh transforms are effective signal transformation tools. Principal Component Analysis and Fisher Discriminant Analysis are often used for feature reduction.
Machine Learning techniques, such as Support Vector Machines and Neuro-Fuzzy are used to solve the core tasks of FDD, namely classification and novelty detection. Genetic Algorithms and Swarm Intelligence methods are usually applied for parameter optimization for the above mentioned techniques.
It has also been observed that a particular approach, namely fault classification, is the most common FDD strategy. However, since it requires supervised learning, it is limited to applications where supervised data is available.

Full textThe set theoretical approach was applied to the development of a diagnostic decision support system for a semi-automated Atlas Copco Wagner ST-8B Load-Haul-Dump vehicle. Hypothesis sets were generated for the vehicle's hydraulic circuit and Deutz FL-413-FW diesel engine. A high level of diagnostic resolution was achieved for the hydraulic circuit, but limited resolution was achieved for the diesel engine. This was postulated to be due to the ratio of observable system outputs to input sub-systems, and the number of least repairable units making up each system.
Manual knowledge acquisition was undertaken in an underground mine to refine the diagnostic knowledge developed from the hypothesis sets and to add knowledge to discriminate between competing failure hypotheses. Heuristic failure likelihoods were used to rank hypotheses in order of frequency of occurrence. The knowledge base was implemented as a hypertext decision support system using HyperText Mark-up Language (HTML). The resulting decision support system is platform independent, upgradeable and able to be maintained by site personnel. The system is currently installed at surface level and at 1800 level at INCO Limited's Stobie Mine in Sudbury, Ontario.
The thesis makes a number of original contributions, the first two of which are of generic significance. It is the first work to apply set theoretical concepts to structural models of mobile mining equipment in order to diagnose faults. A number of modifications are advanced to the conventional trace-back analysis technique for generating contributor and normality sets, and heuristic guidelines are provided for estimating the costs and benefits of developing, implementing and maintaining diagnostic decision support systems. It is also the first work to formalise a decision support system in HTML and to suggest the application of company-wide internets ("intranets") to disseminate maintenance knowledge within mines.

Construction equipment is a high cost of capital investment necessary for the successful existence of a private construction company and essential to the mission success of the Naval Construction Force (NCF). The highest impact cost factor other than the initial purchase investment is the expenses related to maintenance and repair. As the equipment ages, the ownership costs decrease and the operating expenses increase as the maintenance and repairs requirements grow. Both private and public entities desire to manage this high dollar investment for optimization of a perceived profit. This project recommends a decision support model that can be used by private and public entities alike to determine the best fit acquisition method between rent-lease-buy and guidance for profitability optimization. Methods of life cycle cost estimating and decision methods were researched and compared. Data was acquired from equipment rental companies, private construction companies and the NCF. This data was analyzed to select the appropriate decision factors and develop the Construction Equipment Profitability Optimization Model (CEPOM). This model can be implemented by small private construction companies with minimal overhead and a small charging base, and a public entity such as the NCF.

Full textThe operational units at the Exploration and Production (E and P) area at PETROBRAS make use of daily reports to register situations and events from their Stationary Production Units (SPUs), the well-known petroleum production platforms. One of these reports, called SITOP (the Portuguese acronym for Offshore Unities Operational Situation), is a daily document in free text format that presents numerical information and, mainly, textual information about operational situation of offshore units. The textual section, although unstructured, stores a valuable database with historical events in the production environment, such as: valve breakages, failures in processing equipment, beginning and end of maintenance activities, actions executed, responsibilities, etc. The value of these data is high, as well as the costs of searching relevant information, consuming many hours of attention from technicians and engineers to read the large number of documents. The goal of this dissertation is to develop a model of natural language processing to recognize named entities and extract relations among them, described formally as a domain ontology applied to events in offshore oil and gas processing units. After all, there will be a method for automatic structuring of the information from these operational reports. Our results show that this methodology is useful in SITOP s case, also indicating some possible enhancements. Relation extraction showed better results than named entity recognition, what can be explained by the difference in the amount of classes in these tasks. We also verified that the increase in the amount of data was one of the most important factors for the improvement in learning and methodology efficiency as a whole.

Composite materials are used for products needing high strength-to-weight ratios and good corrosion resistance. For these materials, various composite manufacturing processes have been developed such as Automated Tow Placement, Braiding, Diaphragm Forming, Resin Transfer Molding, Pultrusion, Autoclave Curing and Hand Lay Up. The aim of this paper is to examine the equipment used for these seven processes and to produce a cost analysis for each of the processes equipment. Since many of these processes are relatively new or are fairly costly and specified to the customers need, much of the equipment is custom made to meet the requirements of the part being produced. Current pricing information for individual custom-built machines, as well as standard machinery has been provided here.

Full textToday Ranges are faced with the typical dilemma of doing more with less—less money, less time, and less experienced range personnel. Meanwhile, Ranges are being forced to make their operations more efficient in use of time, money, and functionality. As a result, Ranges are looking for automated ways to remotely configure and operate their tracking stations and to provide interoperability between ranges, sites, and equipment. RT Logic worked with numerous range operators and equipment vendors to create an open software architecture that provides rapid device configuration, equipment status at a glance, and automatic fault detection and isolation. RT Logic’s architecture utilizes the CORBA specification to achieve extensibility and scalability for future range requirements. Adoption of this architecture and approach will reduce costs, time, and mistakes.
Leftwich, Thomas E. "PERSONNEL/EQUIPMENT TRACKING SYSTEM (P/ETS)." International Foundation for Telemetering, 2006. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/604154.
Full textThe purpose of the Personnel/Equipment Tracking System (P/ETS) is to provide ground safety and real-time surveillance awareness of all personnel and equipment authorized entry to the Edwards AFB Precision Impact Bombing and Laser Test Ranges. This includes multiple hazardous sites within an area that encompasses approximately 140 square miles. The P/ETS utilizes an off-the-shelf Global Positioning System (GPSFlight) which provides full-time tracking and display of all on-board transmitter-equipped elements. A line-of-sight wireless-to-fiber network system is employed to acquire and transport positional data to display systems within the range safety control tower. Utilization of P/ETS has indicated accurate tracking display in real time, particular advantages for night time operations, prevention of hazardous area intrusion, and relocation of miss-oriented personnel. This system is an economical solution for meeting the ground safety requirements within the confines of the Precision Impact Bombing and Laser Test Ranges.
