Abstract:
Proper operation of Critical Infrastructure (CI) is by definition of high importance for a region, nation or even several countries connected in some way. The term and idea of Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) has to do with the preparedness and response to serious incidents that might influence the operation of CI. In Europe, the European Programme for Critical Infrastructure Protection (EPCIP) refers to the doctrine or specific programs created as a result of the European Commission’s directive EU COM(2006) 786 which designates European critical infrastructure that, in case of fault, incident, or attack, could impact both the country where it is hosted and at least one other European Member State. Member states are obliged to adopt the 2006 directive into their national statutes. [1]

Abstract:
Abstract Motivation The identification of enhancer–promoter interactions (EPIs), especially condition-specific ones, is important for the study of gene transcriptional regulation. Existing experimental approaches for EPI identification are still expensive, and available computational methods either do not consider or have low performance in predicting condition-specific EPIs. Results We developed a novel computational method called EPIP to reliably predict EPIs, especially condition-specific ones. EPIP is capable of predicting interactions in samples with limited data as well as in samples with abundant data. Tested on more than eight cell lines, EPIP reliably identifies EPIs, with an average area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.95 and an average area under the precision–recall curve of 0.73. Tested on condition-specific EPIPs, EPIP correctly identified 99.26% of them. Compared with two recently developed methods, EPIP outperforms them with a better accuracy. Availability and implementation The EPIP tool is freely available at http://www.cs.ucf.edu/˜xiaoman/EPIP/. Supplementary information Supplementary data are available at Bioinformatics online.

Abstract:
This work aimed to investigate the antidiabetic, antiglycation, and antioxidant potentials of the ethanol extract of seeds of Passiflora cincinnata (EPCIN) in vitro. The EPCIN was evaluated from the following assays: total phenolic content (TPC – mg of Gallic Acid Equivalents (GAE)/g of dry extract), Radical Scavenging Assays (DPPH•, HOCl-scavenging assay), and protective effects against glycation of bovine serum albumin (BSA) with methylglyoxal (MGO) or a mixture of reducing sugars, fructose and glucose, as well as the potential for MGO capture by derivatization with ortho-phenylenediamine (OPD). To evaluate the antidiabetic activity of EPCIN in vitro, we used the assays of enzymes α-amylase (4 U/mL), α-glucosidase (0.25 U/mL), and dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4 – 3.125 mU). The cell viability of EPCIN-pretreated normal human bronchial epithelial cells (BEAS-2B) alone or in the presence of the carcinogen 4-[(acetoxymethyl)nitrosamine]-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNKOAc) was measured using MTS assay. Quercetin (QCT), piceatannol (PIC), acarbose (ACB), and sitagliptin (STG) were used for comparison purposes. EPCIN had an average of TPC 157.0 ± 1.5 mg of GAE/g of dry extract, exhibited IC50 for DPPH• and HOCl of 11.9 ± 1.8 μg/mL and 6.9 ± 0.9 μg/mL, respectively. EPCIN and AMG inhibited the formation of advanced glycation end-products (AGE) with IC50 of 574 ± 8.7 and 31.9 ± 2.7 μg/mL for the initial stage and 542.6 ± 2.7 and 52.8 ± 8.1 μg/mL for the intermediate stage of glycation, respectively. EPCIN showed IC50 for α-amylase and α-glucosidase of 218.2 ± 15.9 μg/mL (p<0,05) and 242.0 ± 25 μg/mL (p<0,05), respectively. EPCIN did not show cytotoxicity for BEAS-2B cells at 10 and 50 μg/mL concentrations. In addition, it was also able to protect cultured human cells from oxidative stress caused by the NNKOAc at100 μM. The in vitro evidence of the potential antioxidant, antiglycant, and antidiabetic effects warrants further investigation of the antidiabetic potential of Passiflora cincinnata seeds.

Abstract:
Yellow lupine is a great model for abscission-related research given that excessive flower abortion reduces its yield. It has been previously shown that the EPIP peptide, a fragment of LlIDL (INFLORESCENCE DEFICIENT IN ABSCISSION) amino-acid sequence, is a sufficient molecule to induce flower abortion, however, the question remains: What are the exact changes evoked by this peptide locally in abscission zone (AZ) cells? Therefore, we used EPIP peptide to monitor specific modifications accompanied by early steps of flower abscission directly in the AZ. EPIP stimulates the downstream elements of the pathway—HAESA and MITOGEN-ACTIVATED PROTEIN KINASE6 and induces cellular symptoms indicating AZ activation. The EPIP treatment disrupts redox homeostasis, involving the accumulation of H2O2 and upregulation of the enzymatic antioxidant system including superoxide dismutase, catalase, and ascorbate peroxidase. A weakening of the cell wall structure in response to EPIP is reflected by pectin demethylation, while a changing pattern of fatty acids and acyl lipids composition suggests a modification of lipid metabolism. Notably, the formation of a signaling molecule—phosphatidic acid is induced locally in EPIP-treated AZ. Collectively, all these changes indicate the switching of several metabolic and signaling pathways directly in the AZ in response to EPIP, which inevitably leads to flower abscission.

Abstract:
Bevacizumab (Bev) a humanized monoclonal antibody that fights vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A). It was the first specifically considered angiogenesis inhibitor and it has now become the normative first-line therapy for advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In the current study, polyphenolic compounds were isolated from bee pollen (PCIBP) and encapsulated (EPCIBP) inside moieties of hybrid peptide–protein hydrogel nanoparticles in which bovine serum albumin (BSA) was combined with protamine-free sulfate and targeted with folic acid (FA). The apoptotic effects of PCIBP and its encapsulation (EPCIBP) were further investigated using A549 and MCF-7 cell lines, providing significant upregulation of Bax and caspase 3 genes and downregulation of Bcl2, HRAS, and MAPK as well. This effect was synergistically improved in combination with Bev. Our findings may contribute to the use of EPCIBP simultaneously with chemotherapy to strengthen the effectiveness and minimize the required dose.

Abstract:
Despite the 2009-17 law of 13th August 2009 which lay down that the Public Institution of Intercommunity Cooperation (EPCI) is the only form of intercommunality body in Bénin, municipal groupings still exist in associative form. This article analyses the impact of intercommunity cooperation on territory planning in the Department of Atacora. Data and information used have been obtained essentially through literature search and interviews of 47 resource persons concerned by the topic. Statistical and mapping tools have been involved for data processing. All in all, five (5) EPCI are regularly set up in Bénin and the Community of 2KP regrouping three (3) municipalities of the Department of Atacora is the first set up.. Like other EPCI, the 2KP Community face several constraints in the implementation of the intercommunality in the land use planning. Various solutions approach have been suggested to address those legal, institutional, financial, technical difficulties. Furthermore, the coexistence of EPCI with municipalities associations that have capitalized years of experience of intercommunity cooperation seems possible provided that they remove public works projects from their wallet activities.

Abstract:
The Estonian version of the International Personality Item Pool NEO (IPIP-NEO; Goldberg, 1999 ) was administered to 297 participants in parallel with the Estonian version of the NEO-PI-R ( Kallasmaa, Allik, Realo, & McCrae, 2000 ). On average, the EPIP-NEO items were 3 words, 7 syllables, and 18 characters shorter than the NEO-PI-R items. By all relevant psychometrical properties the EPIP-NEO was comparable to the NEO-PI-R. The mean convergent correlation between the facet scales was .73. The scales with shorter and grammatically simpler items tended to have higher internal consistency. In an independent cross-validation sample the initial results were generally replicated. The scales also demonstrated an adequate cross-observer agreement. It is concluded that the EPIP-NEO, as a more readable personality inventory compared to the NEO-PI-R, is suitable for a wider range of samples with different levels of reading skills.

Abstract:
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) techniques are considered relevant building blocks for the Internet of Things. The interoperability across different RFID software and hardware infrastructures is a key requirement for achieving effective and wide-scale Internet of Thing deployments. In this context, the EPC Information Service (EPCIS) is a set of standard specifications for sharing RFID-related data (i.e., EPC events) both within and across enterprises. Although the EPCIS specifies a set of HTTP and Web Service interfaces for querying and adding EPC events, interoperability and easiness of use is hindered by the fact that client applications should be aware of the repositories that are authoritative for one or more given queries and links among related events are not explicitly represented in response messages. In this paper we argue that, by leveraging emerging REST and Linked Data paradigms, EPC events can be handled as a graph of globally-addressable information resources that can be navigated, queried, and aggregated through a uniform interface and seamlessly across organization domains. To validate this approach, we have developed a prototype that exposes the EPCIS interfaces as a set of REST APIs. The prototype implementation exploits the information modeling and management capabilities provided by a framework, called InterDataNet (IDN), that we conceived and developed to ease the realization of the Web of Data and Linked Data applications.

Abstract:
Blockchain-based traceability systems are a promising approach because they are decentralized, transparent, and tamper proof; however, if all traceability data are uploaded to a blockchain platform, it may affect the efficiency or even lead to data explosion. Additionally, it is difficult to guarantee the reliability of the original data source of massive Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Furthermore, when different enterprise nodes adopt different data storage structures, the costs that are associated with data sharing will increase. In this paper, we have proposed a trustworthy product traceability system that is based on hyperledger fabric and Electronic Product Code Information Service (EPCIS), which is not only capable of making products traceable, but it can also authenticate and authorize the IoT devices that are used for data collection. First, we adopted the on-chain and off-chain collaborative management mechanism in order to alleviate data explosion on the chain. Second, we proposed a scheme to authenticate and authorize devices based on blockchain. Third, we complied with EPCIS and Core Business Vocabulary (CBV) standards and provided the EPCIS location discovery service in order to improve the interactivity. Finally, we implemented and tested the proposed traceability system and compared it with the existing research. The proposed solution provides product information traceability, data tamper proofing, data confidentiality, and data source reliability.

Abstract:
Data integration for the purposes of tracking, tracing and transparency are important challenges in the agri-food supply chain. The Electronic Product Code Information Services (EPCIS) is an event-oriented GS1 standard that aims to enable tracking and tracing of products through the sharing of event-based datasets that encapsulate the Electronic Product Code (EPC). In this paper, the authors propose a framework that utilises events and EPCs in the generation of “linked pedigrees” - linked datasets that enable the sharing of traceability information about products as they move along the supply chain. The authors exploit two ontology based information models, EEM and CBVVocab within a distributed and decentralised framework that consumes real time EPCIS events as linked data to generate the linked pedigrees. The authors exemplify the usage of linked pedigrees within the fresh fruit and vegetables supply chain in the agri-food sector.

Abstract. The purpose of the present research was to develop and provide initial validation of the Fitness Coaching Behavior Scale (FCBS-Fit) designed for assessing perceived the quality of instructor’s behaviors in fitness group classes through the theoretical adaptation to the Coaching Model (Côté et al., 1995), originally derived from sports. In total, 618 participants of fitness group classes accepted to participate in this investigation. The purpose of the research was achieved in three phases: (1) development of the item pool and content validation of the preliminary version of the FCBS-Fit (27 items); preliminary examination of the factorial structure through exploratory factor analysis (n1 = 185) that revealed a scale with 20 items distributed by 4 factors: Technical and Positive Rapport, Exercise Planning and Prescription, Negative Rapport, and Goal Setting; (2) confirmatory factor analysis to the 4-factor model indicated adequate fit model fit, reliability and convergent and discriminant validity. In addition, a multi-group CFA indicated measurement invariance of the factorial structure across samples (n2 = 210); (3) structural equation model examined criterion validity through analysis of the relationships between the 4-factors of EPCI-Fit and enjoyment in exercise (n3 = 223). Psychometric evidence suggests that the FCBS could be used as a reliable and valid measure to assess Portuguese participant`s perceptions of the quality of instructor’s behaviors in fitness group classes.Resumen. Abstract:
Numerous benefits of implementation of global data synchronization (GDSN) in the pharmaceutical supply chain have been identified, including reduced counterfeiting, decreased medication errors, increased supply chain efficiency, and standardized regulatory evolution. For this study, a complete GDSN supply chain framework was developed as a model for the industry to achieve Global Standard (GS1) standards. Each supply chain member must have a strong enterprise resource planning (ERP) information system to accommodate the initial electronic product code information services (EPCIS). A web-based Datapool—which connects the manufacturer, distributor, and retailer—will assist in reaching the data synchronization stage. The most important step is to have an open standard of GS1 global registry to enable the Epedigree to be traced through the supply chain system. When combined with EPCIS, as well as electronic product code global (EPCglobal) standardization and GS1 Global Registry, the supply chain can achieve global data synchronization and traceability. The comprehensive GDSN framework provided in this study provides the pharmaceutical industry an estimate of the total costs of attaining a global data synchronization network.

Abstract:
As a typical basin area in China, the Pearl River-Xijiang River Economic Belt (PRXREB) faces multiple types of environmental problems caused by the different development conditions of basins. To identify the situations of environmental pollution in the PRXREB, this paper constructed the Environment Pollution Composite Index (EPCI) by using four environmental pollutant emission indicators based on the entropy weight method, and explored the spatial effects and driving factors of environmental pollution by using the Spatial Error Model (SEM). The results showed that: (1) EPCI of the PRXREB decreased significantly from 2012 to 2016, and the spatial patterns were relatively stable. Wherein, the midstream and downstream were always the critical areas of environmental pollution. (2) Spatial spillover effects were significant in the PRXREB, which revealed that the local environmental pollution degree was affected by adjacent areas. (3) Industrial structure, infrastructure construction, and regulatory measures were the main driving factors of environmental pollution in the PRXREB. (4) To balance economic development and environmental protection in basin areas, environmental regulations such as environmental access, pollution payment, and cross-border early warning should be jointly established.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
This research focuses on chemistry teachers’ enacted pedagogical content knowledge (ePCK) in equilibrium in chemical reactions. The enactment dimension of this pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) encompasses enacted knowledge and skills as well as those embedded in practice concerning the Refined Consensus Model of PCK, the most recent PCK model in science education. As ePCK plays out throughout the whole pedagogical cycle, it was conceptualized as to exist in three forms, such that ePCKP, ePCKT, and ePCKR. While ePCKP and ePCKR represent the knowledge and skills that a teacher uses for planning and reflecting respectively, ePCKT is related to what a teacher does in the classroom. The holistic nature of ePCK was investigated by using multiple data sources in real-life contexts. Specifically, pre-and post-observation interviews and lesson observations were used to elicit ePCK profiles and to provide triangulation. The grand rubric was customized for use both as an interview protocol and as an observational protocol for analyzing all of the three dimensions of ePCK around the analytical parameters of knowledge and skills related to curricular saliency, conceptual teaching strategies, and student understanding of science. Results revealed that chemistry teachers’ ePCK profiles are not uniform across planning, teaching, and reflecting phases, ePCK components, and evaluation criteria. Chemistry teachers perform highest in reflection concerning conceptual teaching strategies and lowest in teaching in terms of curricular saliency. Recommendations for science PCK research were shared.

Abstract:
We present a discrete event simulation model reproducing the adoption of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for the optimal management of common logistics processes of a Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) warehouse. In this study, simulation is exploited as a powerful tool to replicate both the reengineered RFID logistics processes and the flows of Electronic Product Code (EPC) data generated by such processes. Moreover, a complex tool has been developed to analyze data resulting from the simulation runs, thus addressing the issue of how the flows of EPC data generated by RFID technology can be exploited to provide value-added information for optimally managing the logistics processes. Specifically, an EPCIS compliant Data Warehouse has been designed to act as EPCIS Repository and store EPC data resulting from simulation. Starting from EPC data, properly designed tools, referred to as Business Intelligence Modules, provide value-added information for processes optimization. Due to the newness of RFID adoption in the logistics context and to the lack of real case examples that can be examined, we believe that both the model and the data management system developed can be very useful to understand the practical implications of the technology and related information flow, as well as to show how to leverage EPC data for process management. Results of the study can provide a proof-of-concept to substantiate the adoption of RFID technology in the FMCG industry.

Abstract:
In this present work, an electrochemical sensor was developed for the sensing of uric acid (UA). The sensor was based on a carbon paste electrode (CPE) modified with electroactive polyimide (EPI) synthesized using aniline tetramer (ACAT) decorated with reduced nanoparticles (NPs) of Au, Pt, and Ag. The initial step involved the preparation and characterization of ACAT. Subsequently, the ACAT-based EPI synthesis was performed by chemical imidization of its precursors 4,4′-(4.4′-isopropylidene-diphenoxy) bis (phthalic anhydride) BPADA and ACAT. Then, EPI was doped with distinctive particles of Ag, Pt and Au, and the doped EPIs were abbreviated as EPIS, EPIP and EPIG, respectively. Their structures were characterized by XRD, XPS, and TEM, and the electrochemical properties were determined by cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry. Among these evaluated sensors, EPI with Au NPs turned out the best with a sensitivity of 1.53 uA uM−1 UA, a low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.78 uM, and a linear detection range (LDR) of 5–50 uM UA at a low potential value of 310 mV. Additionally, differential pulse voltammetric (DPV) analysis showed that the EPIG sensor showed the best selectivity for a tertiary mixture of UA, dopamine (DA), and ascorbic acid (AA) as compared to EPIP and EPIS.
