Technological processes are considered and the industries that are the source of cadmium entering the environment are identifi ed. The materials, raw materials and technologies promoting pollution of air with Cd-containing emissions are determined. The ways of gett ing cadmium into the human body are considered. The negative consequences of accumulation of heavy metal in the human body are estimated. The method of atomic absorption spectroscopy was used to study food products for the content of cadmium in them. Studies allow to regard cadmium as a super-toxicant of the environment due to its widespread prevalence and extreme danger. The measures of a technical and medico-prophylactic nature to limit the effects of cadmium on humans are proposed.

The article is devoted to the analysis of the problems of the fuel and energy complex. The issues related to the optimization of the cooling system of the circulating technical water of an industrial enterprise in a sharply continental climate are considered. It has been established that an operating cooling tower must meet a number of requirements — technical, operational, environmental, etc. Particular attention is paid to the efficiency and environmental safety of dry-type cooling towers for industrial enterprises. The analysis showed that dry-type cooling towers have a number of advantages: they are more compact in size, water consumption is less than in evaporative cooling towers, since there is no water evaporation.

Certain primary elements at the bottom level, together with their corresponding primary failures, can be refined by undertaking technical improvement. The list of the latter is pre‐given as well. Assume that by means of simulation modeling (SM) it is possible to evaluate the increment of the system's reliability by implementing any set of technical improvements. The harmonization models center on determining an optimal sub‐set of technical improvements in order: either to maximize the system's reliability subject to a restricted budget assigned for the improvements’ implementation, or to minimize the system's budget subject to a reliability value restricted from below.

Nowadays, numerous studies on nanomaterials (NMs) and Nanofluids (NFs) are account a plethora of applications. With the scientific society’s common goal of fulfilling the target of sustainable development proposed by the UN by 2030, it is necessary to combine efforts based on the scientific and technological knowledge already acquired, to apply these new systems with safety. There are thousands of publications that examine the use of NFs, their benefits and drawbacks, properties, behaviors, etc., but very little is known about the safety of some of these systems at a laboratory and industrial scale. What is the correct form of manipulating, storing, or even destroying them? What is their life cycle, and are they likely to be reused? Depending on the nanoparticles, the characteristics of the base fluid (water, propylene glycol, or even an ionic liquid) and the addition or not of additives/surfactants, the safety issue becomes complex. In this study, general data regarding the safety of NF (synthetic and natural) are discussed, for a necessary reflection leading to the elaboration of a methodology looking at the near future, intended to be sustainable at the level of existing resources, health, and environmental protection, paving the way for safer industrial and medical applications. A discussion on the efficient use of nanofluids with melanin (natural NM) and TiO2 in a pilot heat collector for domestic solar energy applications illustrates this methodology, showing that technical advantages can be restricted by their environment and safety/security implications.

The subject of the study is the technical and environmental calculation of key parameters for equipping a contrailer terminal. The relevance of the work is related to the practical need to improve the organization of working conditions for employees of the terminal and warehouse facility as a complex technosphere object, as well as to ensure the rational operation of loading and unloading equipment. These aspects are crucial for the subsequent design of the terminal in terms of the number of full-time jobs and the required number of purchased/leased equipment, which determines the importance of management decisions at the initial, pre-project stage. There are two blocks of calculation — environmental and technical, the results of which can later be used in the preparation of an estimate and financial plan for the design of a complex technosphere object-a cargo (contrailer) terminal. Used analytical, design methods, theories of warehouse systems by O.B. Malikov, principles of technosphere safety. The calculation of the number of loading and unloading machines of the Kalmar type of the TR618i series was performed, as well as the necessary number of luminaires with fluorescent lamps to create a given standard illumination, and their location in the working area of the terminal’s operating space was determined. The calculation the number of loading and unloading machines required to ensure its smooth operation, and their quality indicators for the future volumes of cargo handling. The calculation of workplace illumination as a condition for ensuring technosphere safety and ergonomics requirements was also performed. It is noted that the performed environmental and technical calculations may be complicated by nested assessment and design methods aimed at assessing the current state of the terminal and the prospects for its further development/modernization.

The safety of a dam is the result of a series of factors, including structural, geotechnical, hydraulic, operational and environmental aspects. In Brazil, Law No. 12.334 of September 2010 establishes the National Dam Safety Policy, which requires safety reports and monitoring inspections for existing dams. The inspection comprises a set of devices installed on the dam, which are used to assess the structural behavior based on performance parameters of the structure, such as displacements, flows, stresses, slopes and others. Dam auscultation procedures, historically, have been performed since the 1950s. Since then, there have been significant advances in instrumentation and dam auscultation methods. This work presents a theoretical approach on technical and scientific aspects of dams in Brazil, based on a state-of-the-art literature review, involving auscultation of dams in the context of design codes, concepts, instrumentation, safety, procedures and monitoring methods.

Abstract The technical diversification of the current road traffic units in Romania is enhanced by the growth of the national fleet of road vehicles. According to APIA statistics, cars have the largest share in the volume of the car fleet in Romania. In 2019, the national car park increased by 7% compared to the previous year - 606,163 units, including 161,562 new and 444,601 used. The fleet of commercial vehicles registered an increase of 80,895 units (25,936 new and 54,959 used) or 6.1%, reaching a total nationwide at about 8 million units. The technical condition of these vehicles significantly determines road safety as well as the impact that road transport has on the environment. For each vehicle, the technical condition is validated by periodic technical inspection. In this paper, the findings of periodic technical inspections allowed the authors to develop significant scenarios related to road safety, environmental influences, but also related to commercial issues associated, for example, with the change of owner of the vehicle. The objectives we achieve in this paper are directly related to the direct link between the scope of European Union regulations certifying the compliant technical condition of a particular vehicle (result of periodic technical inspection) and road traffic safety in Romania today corroborated with projections of environmental influences and changes climate.

Safety Orange first emerged as a legal color standard in the US in the 1950s in technical manuals and federal regulations; today, it is most visible in the contexts of terror, pandemic, and environmental alarm systems; traffic control; work safety; and mass incarceration. The color is a marker of the extreme poles of state oversight and abandonment, of capitalist excess and dereliction. Its unprecedented saturation encodes the tracking of those bodies, neighborhoods, and infrastructures coded as worthy of care – and those deemed dangerous and expendable. This article uses the color orange as an interpretive key for theorizing the uneven distribution of safety and care in 21st-century US public life and to ponder what orange tells us about the relationship between phenomena often viewed as unrelated: information networks, climate data science, pandemic crisis, neoliberal policy, racist violence, and socially engaged art.

now the enterprise of heat power engineering represents the interconnected complex of technical means, de-vices and mechanisms which main purpose-accumulation and transfer of energy to the final consumer. Due to the specifics of its work at each stage of the thermal power plant performed a variety of tasks. Depending on the tasks, the system of the complex itself is formed with the selection of installations, energy storage facilities, as well as treatment facilities. In the process of realization of their direct functions, such enterpris-es have an impact on the environment, which is rather negative. Therefore, the problem of interaction be-tween heat and power enterprises and the environment is particularly acute. Both the work of the enterprise itself and the work on its construction cause irreparable harm to the envi-ronment. Plant interventions such as fuel selection and energy conversion efficiency measures reduce emis-sions of many air pollutants, including CO2, per unit of energy generation. Optimization of energy efficiency in the generation process depends on many factors. The problem of eliminating the consequences of accidents and leaks is particularly relevant in the context of tightened environmental safety requirements. The authors investigated the adsorption capacity of "dry water" for storage of unconventional renewable fuels obtained by the pyrolysis method of oil sludge and oil-contaminated lands management. Existing methods of processing oil wastes have a number of drawbacks: low environmental safety, complexity of technical solutions, high energy costs, lack of final commercial products. The novelty of the research is to upgrade the pyrolysis method of managing oil sludge and oil-contaminated lands without air access in the reactor using electric arc discharge with an increase in consumer properties of the wastes involved in resource management. It was possible to identify the conditions of implementing a particularly effective process mode under which there is a cost-effective conversion of combustibles contained in the wastes into gaseous high-calorie energy sources that can be stored and transported, and used for internal requirements in the fields.Presents the results of studies of innovative materials in the field of leaks utilization

Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) are increasingly embraced around the world to advance smart mobility and more broadly, smart, and sustainable cities. Algorithms form the basis of decision-making in AVs, allowing them to perform driving tasks autonomously, efficiently, and more safely than human drivers and offering various economic, social, and environmental benefits. However, algorithmic decision-making in AVs can also introduce new issues that create new safety risks and perpetuate discrimination. We identify bias, ethics, and perverse incentives as key ethical issues in the AV algorithms’ decision-making that can create new safety risks and discriminatory outcomes. Technical issues in the AVs’ perception, decision-making and control algorithms, limitations of existing AV testing and verification methods, and cybersecurity vulnerabilities can also undermine the performance of the AV system. This article investigates the ethical and technical concerns surrounding algorithmic decision-making in AVs by exploring how driving decisions can perpetuate discrimination and create new safety risks for the public. We discuss steps taken to address these issues, highlight the existing research gaps and the need to mitigate these issues through the design of AV’s algorithms and of policies and regulations to fully realise AVs’ benefits for smart and sustainable cities.

This research proposes an inference model fuzzy to analyses hazardous environmental work conditions, specifically insalubrious work conditions relevant for heat risk to support the safety engineers for making decisions. The article presents a study that consists of a fuzzy inference model specification for the evaluation of heat agents. The structure of model fuzzy used are inputs temperature and metabolic rate, while the output is work environment condition that could be salubrious or insalubrious. Through, the inference method Mamdani and rules established according to Brazil legislation about heat, Occupational Hygiene Standard 06, the proposed model can determine the work conditions about the heat. The validation process is done in an industry from the Industrial Pole of Manaus, therefor all the process necessary for preparations to use the proposed model is described to obtain all the variables necessary in the field. As a result, the proposed model got the correct classification of work environment conditions with pertinent results according to current legislation and technical expertise.

On 20 May 2018, Royal Decree 920/2017, establishing the minimum requirements for the regime of the vehicle technical inspection (ITV in Spanish) to circulate on public roads, entered into force. The new regulations are aimed at ensuring that vehicles in general, and agricultural vehicles in particular, are in proper condition from the point of view of safety and environment. In La Rioja, detailed data are available on the technical inspections performed on agricultural machinery for the last 15 years (2005–2020). The aim of this paper is to analyze the possible effects of technical inspections of agricultural vehicles on their environmental impact. Emissions regulations for this type of vehicle have evolved over the last few years, and as a result, new tractors have better environmental performance. Considering that serious defects detected in vehicle technical inspections can lead the owner to replace the vehicle with a new one, there is a potential reduction in the environmental impact associated with ITVs, as studied in this paper.

Introduced by the Civil Code, the rules of road safety are introducing continuously increasingly strict requirements on motor vehicles. These requirements relate to various aspects of the technical condition of vehicles, both those that determine traffic safety and those that affect the vehicle’s environmental impact. The law requires regular diagnosis of the technical condition of vehicles in service. Diagnostic tests conducted in the form of road tests or the tests performed in workshop conditions allow to determine the symptoms of dysfunctions of the tested vehicle, not always clearly defining the causes and location of damage. The purpose of the work is the design the simulation of a station for of vehicle dynamics tests up to 3.5 t using simulation programs OpenModelica and SciLab. A simulation of the work of the stand for testing the dynamics of vehicles in the form of a chassis dynamometer was achieved. The program enables the simulation of tests: NEDC (New European Drive Cycle), WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure), CADCM150 (joint Artemis driving cycle—Motorway at vMax = 150 kph), CADCU (Common Artemis Driving Cycle—Urban), FTP75 EPA (Federal Test Procedure, Environmental Protection Agency). The simulator (for any assumed type of vehicle) can be used in two modes: 1. Introduction of the presumed cause—Generates the expected results in the functioning of the vehicle. This function can be used to create a cause–effect relational database. 2. Analysis of data from the actual diagnostic system suggesting the causes of the observed (measured) errors in the functioning of the system. The simulator can be used both to design and implement the technological development of intelligent diagnostic systems, and to support the creation of application software for a workshop diagnostic system. Introducing the simulator into practice will also enable the improvement of road safety management.

Application of fuller materials for creation of the higt-strength coatings on part operating under abrasive wear is one of the promising ways of the resources increasing of road construction, emergency rescue and other types of equipment. However, in their creation process does not always comply with the environmental safety requirements, which leads to negative consequences for the natural environment and human health. The article presents the research work results of authors team created a coated powder by chemical vapor deposition of metal-organic compounds on the alumina particles surface and its applications for the wear-resistant coatings. A method of applying iron-tungsten coating on powder technical ceramics by thermal decomposition of vapors, containing iron pentacarbonyl and tungsten hexacarbonyl, is characterised by sequential application on powder particles of adhesion layer from mixture of iron pentacarbonyl and carbon monoxide in volume ratio of vapours1:5 at temperature of their thermal decomposition of 250 °С, and then surface layer from mixture of tungsten hexacarbonyl and carbon monoxide in volume ratio of vapours1:5 at temperature of their thermal decomposition of 800 °С. Metallization powder materials are carried out in a closed cycle, excluding contact workers with toxic substances and emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere, which ensures the safety of the production process. Plasma coatings obtained with the necessary physical and mechanical properties are obtained, which proves the effectiveness of the employed approach and promotes resource increase of the machines elements, subjected to abrasive wear.

The results of the study of the water-chemical and microbiological regime of operation of the cooling water recycling systems of TPP-25 and TPP-26 are presented. According to the results of the microbiological analysis of the additional and circulating water, the sources of microorganisms entering into its composition are classified and identified, the previously unknown function of the technology for deep water softening in an alkaline medium is established, which is proposed to be used to remove sediment-forming components from additional water. It is shown that for the fight against microorganisms immobilized on the inner surfaces of pipelines transporting circulating water and in turbine condensers, a biocidal treatment of circulating water is required. The results of the entire range of studies form the basis of the technology that allows to prevent precipitation of any nature on the heat transfer surfaces of turbine condensers.

Purpose. Substantiation of mining-technical and environmental safety of underground mining of complex-structure ore deposits based on the study of a rock mass stress-strain state (SSS), as well as determining the safe parameters of stopes for specific mining-geological conditions and patterns of rock pressure propagation in various environments. Methods. To assess the improvement of mining-technical and environmental safety of mining operations, the research includes theoretical generalizations with the use of mathematical statistics, physical and mathematical modeling, performing calculations, as well as technical and economic feasibility, laboratory and full-scale experimental studies, industrial tests in mine conditions and on the earth's surface in the zone of blasting influence, based on the standard and new methods. Findings. A functional interrelation between the rock mass SSS value and the number of impulses (destruction sounds) per minute, characterizing its structural (а) and strength (b) properties, is proposed, which is described by a curvilinear dependence of the type y = axb and allows to quickly determine the stable parameters of stopes. Assessment and prediction are made for various forms of rock pressure manifestation, based on the stress concentration coefficient within 0.91 Kv 0.70, taking into account the conditions of the elastic behavior of rocks. The value of = 0.0002-0.0003 is taken as permissible relative deformation, which ensures both mining-technical and environmental safety, as well as the rock mass stability during repeated blasting operations. Originality. A classification of the rock mass SSS has been developed depending on the direction of the maximum stresses relative to the mine working location, the level of the rock mass stress state and the mechanism of rock pressure manifestation (η), as well as the category of rock-bump hazard. In particular, the rock mass with the values in the range oof 0.12 < η ≤0.2; 0.2 < η ≤ 0.3; 0.3 < η ≤ 0.5 and η > 0.5 are classified as non-rock-bump hazardous and belong to III, II, and I hazard categories, respectively. Practical implications. To substantiate the safe parameters of stopes based on the results of multi-year research into underground mining of complex-structure deposits, depending on the rock mass properties, a graphical-analytic method (nomographic charts and calculation formulas) is recommended. These parameters are determined for highly fractured, medium fractured and weakly fractured rock mass with its horizontal outcropping to the surface. Using this method, the Instruction on the Geomechanical Substantiation of the Safe Mining of the Reserves at the Skhidnyi Hirnycho-Zbahachuvalnyi Kombinat, DP (SE VostGOK), Ukraine, has been developed.

The article reports that one of the priority areas for the implementation of the Strategic Plan for the Development of the Housing and Communal Services of Russia for the period up to 2020 is the implementation of the most effective technologies used in the construction of public infrastructure facilities and the modernization of housing stock. Certain aspects of this strategy were considered by the authors in relation to urban facilities located in the riverbank zone of the large, high-water Volga River. The current condition of the riverbank zone near the city of Samara has been analyzed. Factors adversely affecting the riverbank slope and those influencing the change in conditions of its use are singled out. The authors have registered an increasing level of safety problems for urban facilities due to the loss of the slope stability. As possible measures to improve the stability of the slope and ensure environmental safety, technical and technological solutions developed with the participation of the authors are recommended.

Abstractthe paper deals with problematic of machining lines of machine components for the automotive industry. There is a current issue of increasing labor productivity and economic efficiency of production with full safety of production and environmental protection. Therefore, for a specific practical assignment, the replacement of existing machinery using manual workpiece handling is performed by a fully automated safety-accessible one. For this purpose, an analysis of the technical and operating parameters of the proposed NC machines has been prepared. Attention is paid to optimization of material flow and arrangement of individual workplaces of production machines including handling and transfer of material between individual workplaces. Particular attention is paid to the safety of workers and improves the environmental conditions of the production plant. Finally, the overall efficiency of the proposed solution is evaluated in detail compared to the current solution.
