Full textThis study deals with conditional maintenance by vibratory analysis. This activity constitutes an increasingly important part of the tools used to keep industrial plants in continuous service. This work proposes a numerical and experimental methodology of assistance to the detection and the vibratory follow-up of spalling defects in ball bearings. The objective of this work is to use a measurement point located on the casing of a revolving machine to carry out an effective vibratory monitoring. Two steps can be distinguished in this work. The first one consists in the conception of an optimized structural component, called resonator, to channel the vibrations if placed on the casing of the machine. The second step is a numerical determination of the optimum measurement point for defects detection, which can also be used for the follow-up of the evolution of severity of the spalling

Full textCyber-physical systems (PCS) are complex and interconnected systems, where digital technologies converge with the physical world, having revolutionized many sectors of activity. The Internet of Things (IOT) has also encouraged the massive collection of data, thus contributing to the development of "Big Data". However, the development of IOT and SCPs has created challenges, mainly related to massive data management and decision-making. The development of approaches such as Data Analytics and Machine Learning, however, offers solutions by identifying “hidden” patterns or characteristics within this massive data. This thesis addresses the problem of decision-making by using the approaches and techniques of Artificial Intelligence and is particularly interested in the Transportation applicative field. Modern transport systems, considered as complex Cyber Physical Systems, incorporate a wide variety of mechatronic equipment. They are increasingly autonomous, equipped with sensors allowing them to perceive their environment and means allowing interaction with fleet managers. A holistic approach to fleet management helps improve various functions such as maintenance planning and operations management. The thesis focuses on the cyber loops associated with the operation of cyber physical systems, with a focus on the maintenance activity. It offers decision-making assistance by characterizing cybernetic loops, specifying the needs of decision-makers, and developing Machine Learning approaches while respecting the requirements of genericity and technological independence. The modeling of this assistance is based on a holonic decomposition of the SCP and uses Rasmussen's typology at the level of decision making. A methodological guide accompanies this approach. The concepts proposed in this thesis work have been validated through two industrial collaborations. A first collaboration with the Moroccan company STMF has made it possible to optimize the maintenance of a fleet of trucks transporting hazardous materials. A second collaboration with ALSTOM aims to improve the reliability growth of railway rolling stock by detecting warning signs of a failure

Full textA two-phase research program has been undertaken. In the first phase, computer simulations using a finite-element analysis (FEM) software have been performed to highlight the most sensitive. In the second phase, a series of 12 real-size reinforced concrete beams (3,4 m long) has been cast, air-conditioned and repaired at midspan to different extents, using two formulations of repair self-compacting concrete (high-stiffness and low-stiffness SCC’s), 10 of the 12 beams are repaired beam. The last 2 beams are monolithic beams and used as references. After the installation of the instrumentation, the beams are tested on a 4-point bending setup using two servo-hydraulic actuators, for the measurement of the instantaneous and long-term load deformation. The analysis that follows illustrates the correlation between laboratory results and numerical simulations. The main findings of the study show that using a repair material with a higher stiffness than that of the substrate results in a behavior similar to the monolithic beam. However the use of a material with a lower stiffness tends to negatively affect the behavior of the repaired beam. This trend is more pronounced when considering a sustained load, because the materials with lower stiffness tend to deform more than the rigid materials, it follows that the creep at the young age of the material also affects the behavior of the repaired beams, and that the use of a more rigid material allows the repaired beam to behave like a monolithic beam. Full textThe Electron Beam Melting (EBM) process allows to build metallic parts from powder. Thanks to the geometric and mechanical quality of the parts produced, the EBM process can be used to manufacture functional parts and not only prototypes. This process, with other additive metallic processes, make it possible to consider a transition from 3D printing to metallic additive manufacturing. The use of additive manufacturing in an industrial environment requires compliance with quality, cost and time criteria for the parts produced. The production of manufactured parts involves a series of numerical stages which is called the numerical chain. The numerical chain has a significant impact on the three criteria mentioned above. Thus, this thesis provides an answer to the following question:How Computer Aided Manufacturing can improve the quality, cost and time of the EBM manufacturing process? This problem is addressed through the following underlying question:What are the required characteristics for a Computer Aided Manufacturing system adapted to the EBM process? In order to answer this question, the current numerical chain is analyzed. Three main limitations are found:- the use of STL files format- the process cannot be optimized at different scales- the process cannot be simulatedTo solve these issues, a CAM environment is proposed. It allows the centralization of all numerical operations in a single environment. All supported formats can be used within this environment, such as native CAD file formats or STEP format. Software developments are done to prove the feasibility of such an environment. The CAM environment implementation reveals the crucial role of simulation in this system. It is therefore necessary to answer this second question:How to obtain an EBM process simulation allowing the development of parameters, virtually?Although EBM simulation is a recurrent subject in scientific literature, existing studies are based on the finite elements method but the calculation time needed is too important to be used in an CAM environment. Thus, an alternative type of simulation is created in this thesis: a simulation based on abacus. It is composed of a finite elements model, that allows heat maps generation for standards cases of heating and cooling. These heat maps are then transformed in abacus. The simulation algorithm based on abacus search the nearest abacus from the simulated situation in order to estimate the temperatures at the next time step. This simulation method was used to reduce the calculation time while keeping a sufficient precision to optimize process parameters. With the simulation based on abacus, a tool for the optimization of melting strategies is developed. This tool allows quality improvement for the produced parts through the calculation of melting strategies according to thermic criteria. To summarize, the main contributions of this work are:- the definition of requirements specifications of a powerful numerical chain for the EBM process- the development of a CAM environment adapted to the EBM process- the proposal of a fast simulation for the EBM process, based on abacus- the development of a tool for the optimization of melting strategies

Full textHeat treatment is a process that needs the control of both final microstructures and residual stresses and deformations. Numerical simulation is a useful tool for a better optimization of this process. The aim of our work was to contribute to the development of a numerical tool for the prediction of microstructures, stresses and strains during cooling of pieces that may contain chemical heterogeneities, particularly carbon content heterogeneities. Firstly, an existing model for the prediction of transformation kinetics in steels has been further developped in order to take into account the effects of the carbon content enrichment of austenite due to a partial ferritic transformation on the subsequent transformations. Coupled thermal, metallurgical, mechanical calculations have then been performed to study the effects of carbon content gradients on the microstructural evolutions and on the residual stresses development during cooling. Particularly, the possible effects of solidification macro and mesosegregations have been quantified in massive cylinders with sizes close to the size of an ingot. Secondly, experimental validations have been performed for homogeneous cylindrical specimen (40CrMnMo8 steel) and for a chemically heterogeneous specimen specifically designed for our study. The complete set of input data necessary for the simulations has been established from experimental characterizations of the steel. The role of chemical heterogeneity has been analysed through the experimental and calculated results. Finally, a good correlation has been obtained between measurements and calculation of the deformation during cooling of a 3D "croissant" shaped specimen
