Frenzel, Jeanne Elizabeth. "A Critical Analysis of the Entrepreneurial Orientation, Trait Emotional Intelligence, and Entrepreneurial Services Offered by Pharmacists in the Upper Midwest." Diss., North Dakota State University, 2018. https://hdl.handle.net/10365/27951.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to critically analyze the entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and trait emotional intelligence (EI) of pharmacists to develop an understanding of how these traits are exhibited in different practicing settings and practice roles. In addition, the relationship between trait EI and EO was explored to determine if trait EI is positively associated with EO in pharmacists. Finally, entrepreneurial services offered by pharmacists were evaluated for type and frequency. Critically analyzing the EO of pharmacists in different settings and in different roles and evaluating the entrepreneurial services they offer will produce a better understanding of the need for entrepreneurship training for students in colleges and schools of pharmacy. Participants were practicing pharmacists in Upper Midwest states. Data was collected using an online survey. Item analysis, descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, Tukey?s test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and an independent-samples t-test were used to analyze the data. Pharmacists practicing in different settings exhibited no differences in EO; however, significant differences were found when evaluating the EO of pharmacists by practice role. This study found that North Dakota pharmacists had overall higher mean scores for the EO construct of autonomy and are more likely to provide discharge consultation and med to bed services than pharmacists in other Upper Midwest states. Pharmacists who owned a pharmacy had higher mean EO for the constructs risk-taking, innovativeness, proactiveness, and autonomy. No significant differences were found between pharmacists in Upper Midwest states for global trait EI or its constructs. A positive correlation was found between global trait EI and all constructs of EO suggesting that global trait EI could be used to predict EO in individuals. These findings suggest that educators consider evaluating the global trait EI of students to predict their EO. As it has been shown that students with a high EO are more likely to own their own pharmacy, additional entrepreneurship training may be of value to these students.

He, Ling. "The perceived personal characteristics of entrepreneurial leaders." Thesis, Edith Cowan University, Research Online, Perth, Western Australia, 2014. https://ro.ecu.edu.au/theses/1338.

Full text
Abstract:
The concept of entrepreneurial leadership has attracted growing interest from leadership scholars but research is still in an early stage and empirical studies are rare. This thesis explores this new concept in an empirical study of the personal characteristics of entrepreneurial leaders (ELs). The study is underpinned by the “common characteristics” model in which ELs have characteristics of both entrepreneurs and leaders. Semi-structured interviews and a short questionnaire were used to explore business owners’ and corporate managers’ perceptions of the personal characteristics of ELs. Responses were summarised with thematic analysis and descriptive statistics. The findings show participants perceived EL as a distinctive leadership style applicable to both small ventures and large organisations. ELs were differentiated from non-leader entrepreneurs in motivation and leadership capabilities, and integrity was considered particularly important in ELs as entrepreneurs were seen to have questionable ethics. ELs were differentiated from non-entrepreneurial leaders in managerial style, for example being less risk-adverse and more achievement-driven. These findings partially support the common characteristics model, but also suggest ELs have some unique attributes not shared with entrepreneurs and/or leaders. EL’s characteristics are categorised into more fixed distal attributes (e.g., cognitive abilities, motives, values and personality) and more changeable proximal attributes (e.g., problem solving skills and attitudes). A model linking distal to proximal attributes was created to enable future researchers to predict the effects of individual difference variables on leader effectiveness. The most important proximal attribute is having a growth-oriented, values-based vision. Several distal characteristics of entrepreneurs appear particularly important to leading in turbulent times. ELs are perceived to be more pragmatic and more resilient in the face of failure than non-entrepreneurial peers. The attributes of pragmatism, resilience and ethical leadership appear to give EL’s a unique leadership ‘style’. These attributes are related to recent studies of emotional intelligence and authenticity in leadership. ELs can be either business owners or corporate managers. Respondents perceived that business-owner ELs were more likely to succeed in venture growth and also more ethical than pure entrepreneurs. Corporate ELs were perceived to be more effective in achieving results and acting as a driving force for corporate entrepreneurship. Overall the findings suggest that entrepreneurship scholars should see EL as a distinct form of leadership of great relevance to research and training programs in today’s entrepreneurial economy. Implications for both leader and entrepreneur development are presented.

Karbouai, Khalid. "Les potentialités entrepreneuriales des Marocains résidents à l'étranger de retour (MRE) : Une approche comparatiste avec les créateurs d'entreprise marocains locaux." Thesis, Littoral, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017DUNK0506.

Abstract:
The objective of this research is to identify and compare the potentiality of the return migrant entrepreneur back to those of his Local counterpart. It should be recalled that while a significant number of research has addressed entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial characteristics, none, to our knowledge, has studied the potential of the returning migrant entrepreneur in relation to his Local counterpart. The concern to fill the lack of managerial research and to contribute to the scientific debate on this topic has led us to rely on two main paradigms of the traits and the facts of the entrepreneur to establish the concept of entrepreneurial potentials. The theoretical corpus obtained is based on the model of Yvon GASSE. It establishes a link between the different approaches of traits and facts (characteristics and behaviors), incorporates extrinsic factors (middle) and leads to the emergence of the conceptual model of our thesis. This theoretical corpus is relayed by the adapted questionnaire of Gasse which was administered to a sample of 393 Moroccan entrepreneurs MRE (40%) and Local (60%). The MRE are Moroccan residents abroad who have returned to Morocco to create their business. The premises are those who have always been resident in Morocco and who are entrepreneurs. They are therefore two types of entrepreneurs of Moroccan origin but with different life paths (migrant and non-migrant). The 393 questionnaires are subject to multi-dimensional data analysis techniques. The results obtained allow us to answer our research question: the level of the potential of the returning entrepreneur is different from that of the Local contractor. The migratory experience has enabled the MRE entrepreneur to develop a higher level of entrepreneurial potential than that of his Local counterpart. Such results are emerging from the original levers that can feed the endogenous accompaniment devices. Their combination with the Cronbach test provides a reduced and adapted grid of the Gasse model, auguring a differentiated accompaniment of future MRE and Local entrepreneurs

Abstract:
Includes bibliographical references.
This study examined the effectiveness of using personality traits to predict entrepreneurial intention and performance. The participants in the study (N = 113) were all members of an Enterprise Development programme based in Cape Town in the Western Cape. The personality variables under investigation included proactive personality, self-efficacy, perseverance and control aspiration. Standard multiple regression analysis revealed that an overall model incorporating all four of the above personality variables explained approximately 25 of the variance in entrepreneurial intention. After controlling for age and education, the model explained approximately 30 of the variance. However, of the four independent variables, only proactive personality explained unique variance in entrepreneurial intention.

Abstract:
The field of entrepreneurship is rapidly advancing and matures as a discipline that receives substantial amount of attention. One popular area of research in the discipline of entrepreneurship is to investigate one’s intent to start a business, which is entrepreneurial intention. This is an important construct that warrants ongoing research because entrepreneurial intention is not only a great predictor of entrepreneurial behavior but also an important step in the process of becoming an entrepreneur. The present study, based on a sample of 321 subjects along with 264 observers, makes five contributions to the entrepreneurship literature. First, I examined the psychometric property of entrepreneurial take-over intention and found that it is a construct different from entrepreneurial start-up intention. Second, the results demonstrated that risk propensity and proactive personality are positive predictors of entrepreneurial start-up and take-over intentions, whereas cognitive ability is a negative predictor of entrepreneurial start-up and take-over intentions. Rebelliousness is a positive predictor of entrepreneurial take-over intention and also has an inverted U-shaped relationship with entrepreneurial take-over intention. Third, entrepreneurial self-efficacy mediates the relationship between three individual traits (i.e., emotional intelligence, risk propensity, and proactive personality) and entrepreneurial start-up and take-over intentions. Need for cognition mediates the relationship between two individual traits (i.e., cognitive ability and proactive personality) and entrepreneurial start-up intention. Fourth, 2D:4D ratio (a proxy measure for prenatal testosterone exposure level) negatively predicts risk propensity. There also exist two two-step mediations from 2D:4D ratio to both entrepreneurial start-up and take-over intentions through risk propensity and entrepreneurial self-efficacy. Fifth, the results suggest that observer ratings of individual traits only contribute modest incremental validity above and beyond self-reported ratings of them in predicting entrepreneurial start-up and take-over intentions. I discuss implications, limitations, and future directions informed by the present study.

Al-Khalifah, Bashayer. "Entrepreneurial leadership in Kuwaiti private firms." Thesis, University of Stirling, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/1893/21923.

Full text
Abstract:
This study examines the traits and characteristics of entrepreneurial leaders within the Kuwaiti context, by drawing from the different but related leadership and entrepreneurship theories. We first identified several areas where these fields theoretically converge with an emphasis on traits, styles and behavioural characteristics, which led to the emergence of a new leadership paradigm herein referred to as ‘entrepreneurial leadership’. Entrepreneurial leadership is conceptualised as a process of social influence, transformation, and empowering in rapidly changing and uncertain contexts. We operationalised the construct of entrepreneurial leadership by identifying the key traits and characteristics of Kuwait’s private sector leaders. These traits and characteristics included the leaders’ values and beliefs, vision, proactivity, creativity and innovation, opportunity-seeking and risk-taking. The study adopted a predominantly positivist ontology and objective epistemology in order to better understand the phenomenon under investigation (i.e. entrepreneurial leadership). This necessitated obtaining data largely from surveys of 345 leaders, mainly from the financial banking and investment sectors of Kuwait, complemented by qualitative data from 12 interviews. The study provides important insights into the concepts related to entrepreneurial leadership in a non-Western environment and enriches our knowledge in this sector of the management field. The research contributes to knowledge on leadership in Kuwait by conceptualizing a model of entrepreneurial leadership, which places emphasis on leaders’ traits and characteristics and how that relates with leadership effectiveness. The implications of the research relate closely to the way in which companies must be managed or led in a global and competitive environment.

Klaas, Matthew Thamsanqa. "Evaluating entrepreneurial traits and business practices of SMEs in the Eastern Cape." Thesis, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10948/11103.

Full text
Abstract:
Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SMEs) are considered a vital catalyst for economic growth and a source of job creation. In South Africa, with the high levels of unemployment, the contribution made by SMEs is of particular importance. However this sector of the economy is plagued by a high rate of business failure. In an effort to improve the current situation, this study sought to identify which business practices and entrepreneurial traits are present in SMEs in the Eastern Cape that may enhance business performance. The research was carried out amongst SMEs in the Eastern Cape however the results and recommendations of the study can be applied to SMEs in other parts of the country. The research methodology employed in this study was a quantitative approach. A web-based survey was distributed to potential respondents. The criteria used in identify potential respondents for the purpose of this study was that, the SME had to have less than 200 employees and been in business for more than three years. A combination of snowball and convenience sampling was used to select the sample. The researcher developed a conceptual framework using the literature as basis. The survey was distributed to 40 potential respondents. A total of 21 responses were received which translates to a 51 percent response rate. Data analysis was performed by means of descriptive and inferential statistics. The study confirmed the existence of a significant relationship between the independent variables being human resource management, accounting, technology, internal controls and entrepreneurial traits and the dependent variables being business performance. The study affirmed the notion that certain business practices and entrepreneurial traits should be prevalent in a SMEs business in order to enhance business performance. The findings of this study are such that these business practices should be present however the variables highlighted here are not absolute as there are other business practices that are of equal importance.

Jhamb, Sumeet. "THINK ENTREPRENEUR – THINK MALE: UNFOLDING THE GENDERED CHARACTERIZATION OF REQUISITE MANAGERIAL, LEADERSHIP, AND ENTREPRENEURIAL TRAITS." OpenSIUC, 2018. https://opensiuc.lib.siu.edu/dissertations/1501.

Abstract:
Are men and women equally likely to be perceived by people to possess similar requisite characteristics in comparable yet diverse occupations within management, leadership, and entrepreneurship? Because modern workplaces continue to be impacted by the persistence of varying perceptions of men and women about requisite attributes of successful people in several organizational roles, the concept of gender bias and occupational stereotypes has warranted the attention of theoreticians, scholars, and practitioners to a large extent (Koch, D’Mello, & Sackett, 2015; Kuwabara & Thébaud, 2017; Pinker, 2003; Pinker & Spelke, 2005). Although empirical evidence clearly indicates that gender inequalities in the workplace can have a significant effect on peoples’ perceptions about different characteristics of individuals in general and in specific organizational roles, there is a paucity of research examining these perceptions in a variety of leadership positions. Previous literature has investigated the gendered construction and re-construction of these professions but only to a limited extent (Gupta, Turban, Wasti, & Sikdar, 2009; Heilman, 2001, 2012; Heilman, Wallen, Fuchs, & Tamkins, 2004; Koenig, Eagly, Mitchell, & Ristikari, 2011; Kuwabara & Thébaud, 2017; Ryan, Haslam, Hersby, & Bongiorno, 2011; Schein, 1973, 1975, 2001). However, research in years past has not yet examined the full range of industry and entrepreneurial contexts that may create gender typecasting of roles. By extension, the current study focuses on how the gender-differentiated perceptions of men and women influenced the requisite characteristics of successful professional personnel in various managerial, leadership, and entrepreneurial positions. Specifically, given that these professions are influenced by gender-role expectations and stereotypes, this empirical investigation drew from role congruity theory of prejudice (Eagly & Karau, 2002) to examine the relative degree of perceived overlap between the traits associated with specific roles in management, leadership, and entrepreneurship with the traits commonly associated with men and women in general. Primary data were obtained from a diverse sample of 600 (12 x 50) working adults in the United States (N = 600, 300 women, 300 men) between the ages of 21 and 65. This was accomplished using an online survey designed via Qualtrics and administered through Amazon’s MTurk, from the lens of the classic think manager-think male (TMTM) research paradigm (Schein, 1973, 1975, 2001). The instrument used for data collection was the 92-item Schein Descriptive Index (SDI), which was used to describe sex role stereotypes and perceived requisite characteristics of twelve distinct target groups. The results of this study indicate that the perceived requisite traits of successful leaders and entrepreneurs are construed in predominantly masculine terms. These findings support and further inform the nature, existence, significance, and persistence of the “think manager-think male stereotype effect” (TMTM effect) and the “glass ceiling phenomenon” across a variety of managerial, leadership, and entrepreneurial roles, contexts, and industries. The TMTM effect was stronger among high tech entrepreneurs, CEOs, and entrepreneurs in general, whereas it was lessened for entrepreneurs in educational and health care roles, as well as for middle managers. Additionally, consistent with prior research, TMTM effects were generally either more likely to occur, or were stronger in magnitude among male raters than among female raters. These results largely support role congruity theory of gender differences in management and leadership that indicate incongruity of female gender stereotypes in general with stereotypes about high-status and prominent occupational roles in various organizations (Eagly & Karau, 2002). Specifically, the perceived trait overlap was noted to generally be stronger between men in general and successful leaders in various roles than that between women in general and successful leaders in various similar roles. The findings of the current study are expected to be valuable for those seeking to encourage opportunity regardless of candidate gender in management, entrepreneurship, and leadership, as well as for those promoting the role of women’s advancement in these professions. The study’s results have both theoretical and practical implications. Understanding these perceptions can have a significant impact on the gender biases prevalent in society, in organizations, and even across the specific entrepreneurial contexts and industries investigated within the current study. In today’s super-competitive business environment, firms must appreciate the importance of fostering equal opportunity, avoiding gender biases, and facilitating racial and ethnic diversity.

Literature in franchise has virtually ignored the role of psychological aspects on firm interorganizational results, despite its influence on firm level results and relationship quality. Therefore, the present study aims to examine the influence of franchisees’ personality and entrepreneurial drive on franchisor-franchisee relationship quality and financial performance over time. The study also investigated the role of the time of relationship on the relationship quality and financial performance. This study used a self-report survey conducted by mail to collect data from a sample of 342 franchisees selected from 3 franchise networks. Personality was represented by the Big-Five personality traits (IPIP-B5 scales): extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and imagination. Entrepreneur drive was represented by the Carland Entrepreneurship Index (CEI). Relationship quality was conceptualized through a 23-item second-order construct (incorporating trust, commitment, and relationship satisfaction), while financial performance was represented by using a scale measuring sales growth and profitability. Time of relationship was measured by the months of relationship between franchisee and franchisor. A Partial Least Squares (PLS) structural equation model, mean analysis, and regression analysis were conducted to test the hypothesized relationships. Three of the five personality dimensions produced the predicted effect on the outcome variables of relationship quality – agreeableness (positively), emotional stability (positively), and imagination (positively). Financial performance was affected as predicted by conscientiousness (positively), emotional stability (positively), and imagination (positively). As expected, relationship quality presented a positive and significant effect on financial performance. Entrepreneurial drive showed the predicted positive effect only on performance. Time of relationship presented the positive predicted effect on the franchisor-franchisee relationship as regards relationship quality and financial performance; however, the hypothesized shape of the relationship phases could only partially be confirmed, since only between two phases (routine and stabilization) mean analysis showed significant differences. Results indicate that personality does in fact influence relationship quality and performance, but the manner in which this occurs differs from the Brazilian context where this research was conducted to the findings of research conducted in Australia, suggesting that factors such as culture and market stability may have influence on the relationship between personality traits and both relationship quality and financial performance. Entrepreneurial drive appears to positively influence franchisee performance, but its influence proved not to produce a significant impact on relationship quality. The present study’s results also indicate the importance of the time of relationship needed to foster relationship quality and performance. Moreover, long-term relationships are related to better franchisee relationship quality and financial performance assessments. Limitations of this work and suggestions for future studies are also discussed.

Abstract:
Title: Cross-Cultural Comparative Study of Entrepreneurial Leadership Traits Among Brazil and China in Small Businesses Authors: Ana Clara Mueller Meirinho and Li Mengting Level: Master Thesis, 30 hp Keywords: Entrepreneurial leadership, Leader traits, Hofstede’s 6D Model, Small Business, Cross-Cultural leadership, Brazil, China. Background: Entrepreneurship is important among all the countries for the growth and prosperity of nations due to movement of economic activities that they generate. To sustain a business, the character behind it, known as a leader, plays an important role since for guiding a business the entrepreneurs needs to provide a clear vision for the company. Entrepreneurial leaders can have different postures when leading business inside a country. Yet, when comparing between countries, their behaviors can be influenced by many aspects, mainly because of the culture of the nation. However, a study showed that appear to be a convergence of entrepreneurial leadership among the BRICS countries. Also, there have been a lack of studies of entrepreneurial leadership in emergent economies like the BRICS countries, and for that reason, Brazil and China were selected to be the main focus of this study. Furthermore, studies also lack measurements of entrepreneurial leadership traits and behaviors. Research Question: What are the predominant traits of entrepreneurial leaders of small business and which cultural aspect impact on the behaviour of leaders among Brazil and China? Sub research question: What are the similarities and differences on the way that leadership is conducted by entrepreneurs of small businesses among Brazil and China? Purpose: The purpose of this study is, therefore, to describe, explore and instigate predominant traits of leaders as entrepreneurs in small businesses that can lead to distinct behaviour, through investigations in Brazil and China. In addition, this study also verifies similarities and differences of leaders behaviour that can differ from one culture to another, due to cultural impact. This way, the authors developed a framework, to better visualize entrepreneurial leadership traits comparison between Brazil and China, giving the readers a better understanding of preferred traits in both countries, directing them to take right actions considering the cultural values. Method: A mixed method approach was used in this research. Qualitative semi-structured exploratory interviews with abductive approach were conducted with leaders who are entrepreneurs of small businesses in South Brazil and Urban China, which focuses on entrepreneurial leadership traits. Also, quantitative surveys were collected, aiming to measure cultural value and predominant traits of leaders, complementing the qualitative interview. Theoretical Framework: Articles used for this study were meticulously selected, focusing on reliable sources and quality content; also, it was given preferences to new data from well- known journals. This section covers subjects that are interesting and fit to the thematic, such as regarding of Entrepreneurial Leadership and Traits, Hofstede 6D Model, Importance of Micro and Small Businesses to Society, and economic and political facts about Brazil and China, alike as definitions and data of micro and small business characteristics in each nation, and the nations own beliefs. Particular information from the countries was brought from organizations and governmental related websites. Discussion and Conclusion: Based on the results of respondent’s surveys and the interpretation of interviews with entrepreneurs among south Brazil and China. The results are structured and analyzed in the same sequence as the surveys and interviews are designed using Hofstede 6D model, discussing first south Brazil and urban China and then a general overview about similarities and differences of both countries for each section. The study revealed that the preferred entrepreneurial leadership traits are divergence between two countries, while there appear to be a convergence of entrepreneurial leadership style that encompass more democratic, flexible, opportunity oriented yet still remaining the traits of paternalistic and authoritative leadership including directing, participative, consideration of subordinates in small businesses among both countries. Furthermore, the author presented an overview of similarities and different entrepreneurial leadership traits among two countries by categorized based on distal attributes, including personality, cognitive ability and motives values, as well as proximal attributes, including social appraisal skills, problem solving skills and expertise/tacit knowledge are shown in the end.

For this reason, universities have been developing different entrepreneurial education programs to foster entrepreneurial intent, and in this connection, some research considers the impact of these programs to be positive, while others maintain the opposite. In the present work, investigations of the last 5 years related to entrepreneurial intention and entrepreneurial education have been reviewed, within this relationship the positions for and against the influence of situational and personal factors. In addition, new lines of research are identified and proposed, so that the results contribute to understanding the process of entrepreneurial intention formation, so that the academy, government, companies, researchers and stakeholders can develop proposals more successful.

Background:  Over the years, traditional entrepreneurs started businesses due to either pull or push factors within their environments. Research has been carried out in profiling different types of entrepreneurs and their characteristics. The social media influencers are new forms of entrepreneurs who recently appeared due to changes in the technological environments. The existence of social media platforms has enhanced the possibility of entrepreneurial activities online. The platforms are available for everyone, but some have more entrepreneurial orientation or characteristics than others.  Purpose: The aim of this research is to measure the entrepreneurial orientation and the characteristics of social media users, compare social media influencers with other social media users, to determine if differences exist. Methods:       This research uses the Individual Entrepreneurial Orientation scale (Bolton & Lane, 2012) and the Individual Personality Traits measuring scale (Al Mamun, Bin Yusoff, & Ibrahim, 2018). This is a deductive study, testing the above-mentioned theories on social media users, and a quantitative study aided using data collected from online survey. Conclusion:   The results of this study show that Social Media Influencer have higher entrepreneurial traits than non-Social Media Influencers.  The result also supports the three-factor structure and satisfactory reliability of the IEO scales and subscales. Subsequently, I found out that non-SMIs do create online contents and carry out entrepreneurial activities online too.

Is entrepreneurship really as difficult as everyone said? Sometimes its easy to take this step, and sometimes its harder than going to the sky. In recent years, the world has been blowing up entrepreneurial style, and Taiwan is also on this wave. I dont think everyone should start a business. After all, some peoples personality is not suitable, but I think everyone should try to understand the entrepreneurs ideas, think about why his new career will succeed, and then look at what he has. Ability, have you always blamed others for failure, the environment, or have the courage to accept challenges to overcome difficulties? Many entrepreneurs did not fully understand the nature of entrepreneurship, and did not have sufficient resources and capabilities to rush into entrepreneurial activities, but later found themselves embarked on a road of no return. Successful entrepreneurial homes have their own unique personality traits, and most of them are born with the innate environment. If you can fully display any personality traits and make good use of entrepreneurship, I believe that there are certain entrepreneurial abilities and business results. Impact. This study focuses on the personality traits of individual entrepreneurs, entrepreneurial orientation, and the ability of entrepreneurial ability to explore the relationship between entrepreneurial performance, and through the research of individual entrepreneurs, to understand its relevance, to provide entrepreneurs who want to start their own business in the future. A reference for entrepreneurial decision making. This study adopts the Likert five-scale scale, and uses the individual entrepreneurs in Taiwan as the sample of this study. The research subjects are all self-employed, and the 178 valid questionnaires are used to conduct hierarchical statistical regression analysis to verify each. The relationship between variables. From the empirical results, it is found that: (1) The internal control personality of personality traits has a "positive" significant relationship with entrepreneurial performance (2) The innovation of entrepreneurial orientation has a "negative" relationship to entrepreneurial performance (3) Sexuality has a "positive" significant relationship with non-financial performance. (4) Entrepreneurial resources with entrepreneurial capabilities have a "positive" significant relationship to entrepreneurial performance. (5) Entrepreneurial opportunities for entrepreneurial capabilities have a "positive" significant relationship to entrepreneurial performance.

The purpose of this research was to investigate how personality traits influenced the turnover intention of practicing psychiatrists in Taiwan and the mediating role of self efficacy and entrepreneurial intention. Meanwhile, this study examined the relationship between perceived organizational support (POS) and turnover intention, and the mediating effect of organizational commitment. We conducted a sensus to all psychiatrists currently practicing in Taiwan by delivering anominated questionnaire face-to-face, through mail, email, or facebook bulletin. One hundred and ninety-two samples were retrieved, which accounted for 13.6% of the population (N=1410). Regression analysis revealed: (1) Extraversion, Conscientiousness, neuroticism and openness to experience predicted self efficacy (E+, C+, O+, N-); (2) Openness to experience positively predicted entrepreneurial intention; (3) Extraversion negatively predicted turnover intention; (4) Openness to experience positively predicted turnover intention through partial medication by self efficacy and full mediation by entrepreneurial intention; (4) POS negatively predicted turnover intention through full mediation by organizational commitment. Besides, among young psychiatrist (〈10 years of practice), psychiatrists with manager or other positions appeared to have higher aggreableness than those without these positions, while hospital or clinic owners had higher openness to experiences compared to hired psychiatrists. Among senior psychiatrist (〉 10 years of practice), hospital or clinic owners had lower neuroticism, and psychiatrists without any other positions (owner or manager) had lower self efficacy. This empirical research examined how personal factors acted on the turnover intention and career decision of psychiatrists in Taiwan. Further study should be done to involve more psychiatrists and focused more on the relationship between person and environment.

This study was aimed at exploring the influence of the big-five personality traits (extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness) on entrepreneurial motivation, using decision comprehensiveness as a mediation mechanism on the influence. We used questionnaires to collect data from 185 industrial employees who had had an intention for creating their own businesses. The results showed that their traits of extraversion, conscientiousness, and openness had a positive influence on their entrepreneurial motivation; however, their traits of neuroticism and agreeableness had no such influence. The results also showed that their decision comprehensiveness had a positive influence on their entrepreneurial motivation. And the decision comprehensiveness fully mediated the influence of extraversion on the entrepreneurial motivation, but only partially mediated the influence of conscientiousness and openness on the motivation. We also found that the moderation of entrepreneurial environment on the relationship between the decision comprehensiveness on the entrepreneurial motivation was insignificant. Finally, based on these findings of this study, we discussed in details the implications of the study to the literature and the practitioners. The purpose of this study is to examine the correlation between demographic variables, personality traits and performance. Entrepreneurial activity is one of the main reasons to promote economic growth, and has become the mainstream of commercial activities. The added values have made great contributions to Taiwan's economy. In terms of academic research, scholars have been engaged in studies related to entrepreneurship, among which demographic variables and personality traits as entrepreneurial motivation and entrepreneurial performance are one of the popular studies. However, despite of abundant empirical data, there is no consistent result. Therefore, in this study, meta-analysis was used to integrate the research data related to startup founder’s demographic variables, personality traits and entrepreneurial performance. The meta-analysis could integrate many research data into one data, and then convert the statistical results of each research into Z-value, which can be further analyzed. Demographic variables (gender, age, education, entrepreneurial experience, marital status) and five personality traits were analyzed in this study. The results showed that some startup founder’s demographic variables have differences in personality traits and entrepreneurial performance, and there is a positive correlation between personality traits and entrepreneurial performance.

Theory of Theory of Planned Behavior(TPB) and Shapero''s Model of the Entrepreneurial Event(EEM) are the two major models of entrepreneurial intention. While TPB studies individual’s behavior and attitudes, the EEM focuses on studying the entrepreneurial event of individual. Because the EEM studies are relatively fewer than TPB in the studies of entrepreneurial intention, this research chooses EEM as the theory basis. The samples of the research are undergraduates from technology university and general university in Taiwan. This study compares the factors that affect the entrepreneurial intention between both kinds of students. Based on the Shapero’s Model of the Entrepreneurial Event, whether proactivity, creativity, bonding social capital, and bridging social capital will directly or indirectly impact on entrepreneurial intention would also be shown. The results of statistic analysis find out that bridging social capital, perceived desirability, perceived feasibility, and propensity to act would significantly impact on entrepreneurial intention. On the contrary, the impact of proactivity, creativity, and bonding social capital are hardly to see in the study. On one hand, both the proactively and creativity can affect personal entrepreneurial intention by perceived desirability. On the other hand, creativity, bonding social capital, and bridging social capital affect personal entrepreneurial intention by perceived feasibility. Furthermore, the differences between school systems only influence on bridging social capital dramatically, and with no influence on other variables. In accordance with research statistics, this study finds out that the bridging social capital of general university students is higher than technology university students. Under the same research, the entrepreneurial intention of male students is significantly higher than that of female students.

Small and micro enterprises, the main foundation for Taiwan's economic development, have been affected by the global financial crises and economic storm in recent years. Along with an unstable international environment, slow economic growth, rising raw material costs; external business shifts, changing population structure, imminent industrial transformation, the micro-enterprises are facing unprecedented challenges. Therefore, the government has provided a series of subsidiary arrangements, including the Mini Phoenix Entrepreneur Loan, the focus of this study. This study explores whether personality traits and entrepreneurial motivations have an impact on entrepreneurial performance. Questionnaires were distributed to qualified micro-phoenix entrepreneurs in five districts (north, central, southern, eastern, and outlying islands) and interviews were conducted. Out of 2,500 questionnaires distributed, 341 responded, with a 13.6% response rate. Correlation, regression, and cluster analyses were adopted to verify research hypotheses. The empirical results show that the personality traits of micro-Phoenix entrepreneurs are related to entrepreneurial motivation; personality traits have influence on performance; entrepreneurial motivation also has a partial impact on entrepreneurial performance. This study is intended to increase the understanding of Phoenix lenders, clarify the factors affecting Phoenix loan entrepreneurs, and then contribute to the operation and development of micro-enterprises. It is recommended that future researchers can expand the investigation scope, incorporate other variables, and detect possible interactions to grasp a more comprehensive picture of the characteristics of Phoenix micro-entrepreneurs.
