Abstract:

Abstract:

Parada, Leopoldo. "Hybrid Entity Mismatches and the International Trend of Matching Tax Outcomes: A Critical Approach." Intertax 46, Issue 12 (December 1, 2018): 971–93. http://dx.doi.org/10.54648/taxi2018104.

Full text
Abstract:
The international tax debate as regards hybrid entities has certainly changed after the OECD BEPS Project. Since then, the trend has been focused exclusively on matching transactions involving hybrids and reverse hybrid entities and double non-taxation, however without questioning whether these two elements are necessarily interconnected or whether they should serve each other in the design of domestic anti-hybrid provisions. This is particularly evident as regards the notion of ‘hybrid (entity) mismatch arrangements’ the design of which is based on the assumption that income should be taxed somewhere – no matter where – and as regards the complex set of domestic solutions proposed (‘linking rules’) the true efficacy of which is nevertheless still unknown. In this vein, this article adopts a critical approach both as regards the diagnosis of the problems and as regards the solutions proposed. As to the diagnosis, the author argues that the artificial attempt to match transactions involving hybrid entities and double non-taxation not only disregards the fundamental issue as regards hybrid entity mismatches (i.e. the disparate tax characterization of the same entity by two different states), but also carries with it the risk of creating presumptions of abusive practices in all those cases in which a hybrid entity structure is simply not taxed at all. As to the remedies, the author argues against the complexity, excessive reliance on foreign laws and potential economic double taxation issues that the implementation of linking rules might cause from a tax policy perspective. From a practical perspective, the author questions the proper interaction between linking rules and other anti-base erosion provisions, such as interest limitations and CFC rules. This article ultimately concludes that a re-orientation in the international debate regarding hybrids and reverse hybrid entities is crucial in order to open the door for more fundamental – and perhaps also more coordinated – solutions.

Abstract:
One of the most known visual metaphors is hybrid (Forceville 2002), a conceptual process in which the visual target and the visual source domains are integrated into one entity providing a high potential of incongruency (e.g., a cat with elephant ears). Previous research mostly focused on hybrids in isolation and studied their physical features as potential motivational factors behind them. The present paper aims to systematically investigate the hybrids with their motivational factors in discourse and provides a solution to the conceptual collaborations including a metaphoric hybrid. As a main result of the study, analogous priming is hypothesized as a potential motivating factor in hybrids meaning that more conceptual metaphors are construed at the same time out of which at least one is a metaphoric hybrid. It can appear in two ways: (1) when the metaphoric hybrid is intertwined with another conceptual metaphor different from the hybrid, or (2) when the target domain (being part of the hybrid) is shown by two or more sources.

Abstract:
Following the calls from literature on bankruptcy, a parsimonious hybrid bankruptcy model is developed in this paper by combining parametric and non-parametric approaches. To this end, the variables with the highest predictive power to detect bankruptcy are selected using logistic regression (LR). Subsequently, alternative non-parametric methods (Multilayer Perceptron, Rough Set, and Classification-Regression Trees) are applied, in turn, to firms classified as either “bankrupt” or “not bankrupt”. Our findings show that hybrid models, particularly those combining LR and Multilayer Perceptron, offer better accuracy performance and interpretability and converge faster than each method implemented in isolation. Moreover, the authors demonstrate that the introduction of non-financial and macroeconomic variables complement financial ratios for bankruptcy prediction

Abstract:
In this paper we investigate whether the assortative mating between individuals of the same genetic entity (i.e. coming from the same geographical area) of Echinostoma caproni, reported in a previous paper, may be explained by a post-zygotic isolating mechanism. The fecundity of the adults of 2 parental genetic entities and of their hybrids (i.e. F1, F2, F3) was quantified through 3 successive generations. Whereas the number of eggs released by F1 hybrids is similar to that of the mid-parent, that of recombinant hybrids (F2–3 hybrids) is significantly lower than that of F1 and that of the mid-parent. Since these results seem to demonstrate hybrid breakdown, 2 important factors maintaining reproductive isolation, i.e. pre-mating reproductive isolation and low hybrid fecundity, may influence the evolution of E. caproni.

Abstract:
A hybrid origin for a conservation listed taxon will influence its status and management options. Here, we investigate the genetic origins of a nationally endangered listed taxon—Eucalyptus paludicola—a tree that is restricted to the Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island of South Australia. Since its description in 1995, there have been suggestions that this taxon may potentially be a stable hybrid species. Using a high throughput sequencing approach, we developed a panel of polymorphic loci that were screened across E. paludicola and its putative parental species E. cosmophylla and E. ovata. Bayesian clustering of the genotype data identified separate groups comprising E. ovata and E. cosmophylla while E. paludicola individuals were admixed between these two, consistent with a hybrid origin. Hybrid class assignment tests indicate that the majority of E. paludicola individuals (~70%) are F1 hybrids with a low incidence of backcrossing. Most of the post-F1 hybrids were associated with revegetation sites suggesting they may be maladapted and rarely reach maturity under natural conditions. These data support the hypothesis that E. paludicola is a transient hybrid entity rather than a distinct hybrid species. We briefly discuss the conservation implications of our findings.

Abstract:
Named entity recognition is an important factor that has a direct and significant impact on the quality of neural sequence labelling. It entails choosing encoding input data to create grammatical and semantic representation vectors. The main goal of this research is to provide a hybrid neural network model for a specific sequence labelling task such as named entity recognition. Three subnetworks are used in this hybrid model to ensure that information at the character, capitalization levels, and word-level contextual representation is fully utilized. The authors used different samples for training and development sets on the CoNLL-2003 dataset to show that the model could compare its performance to that of other state-of-the-art models.

Ameloblastoma a benign neoplasm of the maxillofacial region has been divided into various histopathological types by WHO. A more complex and confusing type includes hybrid type, which as the name suggest include more than two variants mostly histopathological. Various authors have reported cases of this type but the exact histopathological features are still unclear and each case that is being reported add to the literature, which further strengthens its histopathological feature. Also, this is a lesion whose clinical and radiographical features are similar to all the variants and a definitive diagnosis is achieved by histopathology only. Here, we present a case of hybrid ameloblastoma with striking and unique histopathological features.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Genetic and agronomic criteria are insufficient to explain the distinction made by farmers between a modern coconut hybrid and a natural coconut hybrid in southern India. Here we show that these modern and traditional coconut hybrids come from the same parental cultivars, and we analyze the attitude of farmers who name, characterize and treat the hybrids differently despite their biological similarity. From an anthropological perspective, this varietal assessment is not a free or isolated process. Indeed, farmer's evaluation of the new material is based on their traditional varieties, already known and used as a frame of reference. This comparison has less to do with the biological characteristics of the plant than with its qualities as a cultural entity within a human community. The large distribution scale of the modern coconut hybrids, their abundance, and the fact that their reproduction is technically assisted by scientists contrast with the rare, spontaneous appearances of the natural coconut hybrids in farmers' fields. By thus focusing our attention on human intervention, it is not only the planting materials that are being compared but also two crop creation processes and two social groups (farmers and scientists).

Abstract:
The work is devoted to the study of the insect pollination influence on the qualitative and qualitative indica-tors of the 14 high-productive autofertile Helianthus annuus L. hybrids by five producers, grown under conditions of the Prut-Dniester interfluve. The following components of the oilseed sunflower crop structure were analyzed: dry weight of 1000 seeds, dry weight of the kernel from the basket, dry weight of the husk from the basket, moisture and oil content of the kernel. A two-factor analysis of variance of the sunflower hybrid and the pollination method effects on the kernel oiliness was carried out. It was proved that depending on the characteristics of the hybrid and additional pollination, the oil content in the studied samples varied widely: from 43 to 71%. Hybrids P62LE122 and P64LE25 (Pioneer) are characterized by the lowest oil content. Hybrids SY Neoma, SY Sumatra, SY Experto (Syngenta) and hybrid ES Bella (Euralis) are characterized by the highest oil content., A large variability of the oil content in the seeds extracted from different plant specimens was established for the LG5665M (Limagrain) hybrid. The results of the correlation analysis show a statistically significant relationship between the capitulum diameter and the dry weight of 1000 seeds and the husk from entire capitulum weight. A highly positive statistically significant relationship was established between the diameter of the capitulum and the kernel from entire capitulum dry weight. Under conditions of free insect pollination, it increases from 0.721 to 0.773, which confirms the increase in overall yield. Statistically significant data obtained by means of two-factor variance analysis show an average increase in the oiliness of sun-flower seeds by an average of 5%. On the basis of the obtained results for hybrids SY Experto, ES Bella and MAS87A use of a mobile apiary is recommended to obtain more productive raw materials.

Abstract:
Verbal-pictorial hybrids are peculiar semiotic entities where the components of the verbal and pictorial sign systems are blended in such a way that they form an indissoluble entity and, thus, double their functional yield. Verbal-pictorial hybrids are kinds of сreolized (polycode) texts in which the convergence between verbal and pictorial components becomes the strongest and their formation is conditioned by the use of the same visual information transfer channel which is shared between both the written speech and images. The category in question includes calligrams, ASCIIart, pictorial puzzles, graphemic emoticons, specific forms of the graphic metaphor, marketing communication products (advertisements, logos) and all these give rise to a new unique category in the linguistic and semiotic studies. Verbal-pictorial hybrids belong to different discourses and genres and can be classified in accordance with their innate properties: antecedence/ subordinance of verbal and pictorial elements and, also, in accordance with the extent to which one of the semiotic dimensions loses its properties after becoming part of the hybrid entity.

Abstract:
The Epichloë species of fungi include seed-borne symbionts (endophytes) of cool-season grasses that enhance plant fitness, although some also produce alkaloids that are toxic to livestock. Selected or mutated toxin-free endophytes can be introduced into forage cultivars for improved livestock performance. Long-read genome sequencing revealed clusters of ergot alkaloid biosynthesis (EAS) genes in Epichloë coenophiala strain e19 from tall fescue (Lolium arundinaceum) and Epichloë hybrida Lp1 from perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne). The two homeologous clusters in E. coenophiala—a triploid hybrid species—were 196 kb (EAS1) and 75 kb (EAS2), and the E. hybrida EAS cluster was 83 kb. As a CRISPR-based approach to target these clusters, the fungi were transformed with ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complexes of modified Cas9 nuclease (Cas9-2NLS) and pairs of single guide RNAs (sgRNAs), plus a transiently selected plasmid. In E. coenophiala, the procedure generated deletions of EAS1 and EAS2 separately, as well as both clusters simultaneously. The technique also gave deletions of the EAS cluster in E. hybrida and of individual alkaloid biosynthesis genes (dmaW and lolC) that had previously proved difficult to delete in E. coenophiala. Thus, this facile CRISPR RNP approach readily generates non-transgenic endophytes without toxin genes for use in research and forage cultivar improvement.

Abstract:
Four F1 hybrids of arabica coffee (Coffea arabica L.) developed with the primary objective of pyramiding the SH3 gene for leaf rust resistance in a commercial variety ‘Chandragiri’ for achieving the long-lasting resistance to leaf rust, have been evaluated in field. Two hybrids (S.5083 and S.5084) were derived from a donor heterozygous to SH3, while the other two hybrids (S.5085 and S.5086) were developed from donor homozygous to SH3. Among the hybrids, S.5086 recorded superior yield performance during individual years with a maximum yield of 1611 kg/ha during 2020-21 and the four year mean yield of 1313 kg/ha. The hybrid exhibited maximum heterosis over mid parent (29.10%) and better parent (17.12%) and S.5086 progeny also manifested high field tolerance to leaf rust pathogen as the entire plant population was free from the disease incidence throughout the study period. The findings of the present study established the efficiency of F1 breeding strategy with simultaneous pyramiding of rust resistance genes for development of vigorous, high yielding and durable rust resistant F1 hybrids in arabica. The F1 hybrid, S.5086 with promising performance in terms of crop yield and high field tolerance to leaf rust has potential implications for commercial exploitation.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Change in climatic conditions are is reality the reality of our days. She is accompanied by an increase in air temperature and changes in precipitation. However, in such conditions it is necessary to have sweet corn hybrids that will provide high yields. The spread of sweet corn hybrids is due to the use of its freshly cooked products in the summer. However, the demand for products is constantly increasing for both frozen and canned corn. Therefore, the main guarantee of obtaining a future harvest is the correct choice of a hybrid for cultivation, taking into account soil and сlimatiс conditions. The tests were conducted in the experimental field of Uman NUH in the conditions of the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe in 2021. New maize hybrids (obtained from maternal lines with different mutant genes) were used as test material. Number of studied hybrids – 4. Hybrid Spokusa was used as a standard. During the entire growing season, they were examined for the duration of the growing season and a number of morphological characteristics such as plant height and attachment height of the productive ear. The above listed signs are precisely the genetic feature of the hybrids and their response to changes in air temperature and precipitation. Our research made it possible to isolate a hybrid of corn 1290 (subject to the presence of su1se1 genes in the hybrid genotype), which is attributed to the middle-early ripeness group, and is also characterized by an average plant height of 220 cm and an average ear attachment height permissible for mechanized harvesting – 60 cm. seed productivity at the level of 4.9 t/ha and is characterized by high resistance to damage by corn motile.

Abstract:
The search for effective systems to facilitate the release of poorly bioavailable drugs is a forefront topic for the pharmaceutical market. Materials constituted by inorganic matrices and drugs represent one of the latest research strategies in the development of new drug alternatives. Our aim was to obtain hybrid nanocomposites of Tenoxicam, an insoluble nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, with both layered double hydroxides (LDHs) and hydroxyapatite (HAP). The physicochemical characterization on the base of X-ray powder diffraction, SEM/EDS, DSC and FT-IR measurements was useful to verify the possible hybrids formation. In both cases, the hybrids formed, but it seemed that the drug intercalation in LDH was low and, in fact, the hybrid was not effective in improving the pharmacokinetic properties of the drug alone. On the contrary, the HAP–Tenoxicam hybrid, compared to the drug alone and to a simple physical mixture, showed an excellent improvement in wettability and solubility and a very significant increase in the release rate in all the tested biorelevant fluids. It delivers the entire daily dose of 20 mg in about 10 min.

Abstract:
Modern sunflower breeding is significantly diversified due to the different needs of agricultural production. The breeding of sunflower varieties and hybrids is carried out at V.S. Pustovoit All-Russian Research Institute of Oil Crops (VNIIMK) in all areas in demand on the market and is based on fundamental biological research. In the field of breeding for faster maturing, the following commercial cultivars were obtained: very early maturing, cv. Skormas and the three-way hybrid Achilles, early maturing cvs. Varyag and Uspekh, medium maturing cvs. Amelie, Aris and Aurus. Within the framework of breeding for immunity, eight hybrids and one variety have been produced. So at the Don experimental station (Rostov region), productive hybrids were bred, resistant to the virulent broomrape of the G race due to the presence of the Or7 gene: ‘Gorstar’, ‘Gorfild’, ‘Grant’, ‘Status’, ‘Fogor’ and the three-way hybrid Nika. On the central experimental base, the following were obtained: the mid-early hybrid Typhoon and the earlymaturing variety Platonych with resistance to common races of downy mildew and a high oil content of achenes (up to 53 %) as well as the mid-early hybrid Tayzar, which is simultaneously resistant to virulent races of broomrape and to the causative agent of downy mildew. The early maturing large-fruited sunflower variety Belochka was included in the“Russian State Register of Selection Achievements…”, and the large-fruited varieties Karavan, Konditer and Kalibr are currently undergoing state tests. The breeding use of germplasm with genes for herbicide resistance wasaccompanied by their extensive genetic study. A practical recommendation for all three alleles of the ALS gene (Imr, CLHA-Plus, Sur) was the need to create homozygous hybrids for their reliable use in appropriate production systems. For Clearfield technology, the hybrids Imidzh, Arimi and Immi have been developed; for Clearfield Plus, the hybrid Klip; and for Express Sun (or SUMO), the hybrid Surus. Klip and Surus are mid-oleic. All newly developed fertile ornamental sunflower varieties – Aurelia, Fizalia, Zhemchuzhny, Rumyanets, Agat and Mazhor – were transferred for practical use to a sterile CMS RIG basis. Thus, new achievements have been attained across the entire spectrum of modern trends in sunflower breeding.

Parada, Leopoldo. "Hybrid Entity Mismatches: Exploring Three Alternatives for Coordination." Intertax 47, Issue 1 (January 1, 2019): 24–54. http://dx.doi.org/10.54648/taxi2019003.

Abstract:
The OECD pragmatic approach regarding hybrid entity mismatches is, without doubt, questionable. However, equally questionable is the absence of alternatives solutions proposed by either academics or tax policy makers , which demonstrates a sort of conformism as regards both the diagnosis of the problems and the solutions thereto, as if matching tax outcomes and taxing income somewhere – no matter where – were indeed the only possible path to deal with hybrid entity mismatches. In an attempt to break this inertia, this article argues for coordination in the tax characterization of entities as a straightforward and suitable alternative to replace the current OECD linking rules, and perhaps also, the consequentialist OECD approach to hybrid entity mismatches. For this purpose, three specific alternatives are explored for coordination in the tax characterization of entities, which include (1) supremacy of the tax characterization rules of the source state, (2) supremacy of the tax characterization rules of the residence state and (3) supremacy of the tax characterization rules of the home state. The analysis of these alternatives includes both hypotheticals and specific examples from domestic and supranational laws that are used to illustrate and support their effectiveness. The ultimate aim of this article is to demonstrate that coordination in the tax characterization of entities appears to be not only a more preferable path when compared to the OECD approach of matching tax outcomes, but also a more coherent and less costly alternative for both taxpayers and tax administrations.

Abstract:
Topicality. At the present stage, the basis of the Ukrainian economy is agricultural production. Agriculture is the only sphere that is as dependent on weather fluctuations as any other. And it constantly has to adapt to the ongoing climate change. Climate changes, which cause an increase in temperatures, changes in the amount of precipitation and its distribution during the growth season, unstable weather conditions, the spread of pests and diseases, threaten the production of sunflower hybrids. The question about the influence of weather factors on the formation of productive traits of both hybrids and their parental forms, the dependence of agricultural crops on weather factors (temperature and precipitation, both for the entire growth season and for several months) is relevant. Purpose. To study of the influence of weather conditions on the formation of productive traits of hybrids and their parental components. Materials and Methods. The triple hybrids of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) Ahent, Ahronomicnyi, Kameniar, Marshal, Zaporizkyi 28, their parental components – single-cross sterile hybrids ZL(22х102)A, ZL(42х46)A, ZL(42х58)A and the restorers of fertility ZL512Rf, ZL678Rf and ZL7034Rf were studied. Results. Over the years of research, yield fluctuations reached to 0.90 t/ha for Ahent hybrid, 1.66 t/ha – Agronomichnyi, 0.13 t/ha – Marshal, 0.96 t/ha – Kameniar and 0.58 t/ha – Zaporizkyi 28. The highest yields and oil yield per unit area were in 2018. According to the results of three-year trials on hybrids and their parental forms, the Marshal hybrid had the highest yield – 2.64 t/ha with seed oil content of 50.78 % in 2016. Also in 2016, all pollen fertility restorers had the highest yields and oil yields. In 2018, four out of five hybrids showed the highest yields and oil yield per unit area. In 2017, the lowest oil content in the seeds of the tested hybrids was in the range of 45.16–48.49 % for Ahent and Zaporizkyi 28, respectively. Conclusions. It was established that Marshal is the most productive hybrid for sunflower cultivation in the southern Steppe of Ukraine, its average yield was 2.56 t/ha that exceeded by 0.27–0.48 t/ha this indicator in other hybrids. Abstract:
Cypripedium calceolus L. and C. macranthon Sw. (Orchidaceae) are rare species throughout almost the entire territory of Russia. Though the data on intraspecific genetic differentiation has been presented in the literature, the species of C. calceolus, C. macranthon and alleged hybrids of C. × ventricosum growing in sympatric population in the Iskitim District of the Novosibirsk Region (NR) have not been investigated yet. The purpose of this work is dentification of the rare species of Cypripedium calceolus, C. macranthon and detection of C. × ventricosum hybrids in the NR using morphometric parameters and ISSR markers. It was found the mature generative specimens of C. × ventricosum formed the largest number of shoots, compared with the parent species. According to the number of flowers on the generative shoot, the hybrid occupied an intermediate position. According to the ISSR analysis, components from both parental species were identified in each of the three hybrids studied. Therefore, the presence of C. × ventricosum hybrid plants in the local NR coenopopulation of co-growing species C. calceolus and C. macranthon was detected and confirmed based on the study of morphometric parameters and ISSR markers.

Abstract:
Stability in performance is important for determining adaptation and recommendation of pre-commercial crop varieties. This study was conducted with the following objectives: i) to determine stability of grain yield for 55 quality protein maize (QPM) single cross hybrids generated from 14 inbred lines ii) to determine the pattern of grouping of QPM hybrids and test environments based on grain yield response. The test hybrids were generated during the second season of 2015 and evaluated in three agro-ecological zones during the first season of 2016. Two checks were used: Longe 5D, a popular QPM hybrid and a top cross of Longe 5D with CML511. Additive main effects and multiplicative interaction (AMMI) and genotype and genotype by environment interaction (GGE) analyses were used to assess the stability of the hybrids. Results showed highly significant differences between genotypes, environments and GEI. The first principal component axis (IPCAI) was significant (p < 0.01) and accounted for 61.5% of the interaction effect. Both (IPCAI) and IPCAII) cumulatively contributed to entire degrees of freedom available for interaction component. Hybrid QPMSC-29 had the highest grain yield across environments. The AMMI biplot clearly depicted the genotypes on the bases of their adaptation patterns. Hybrids QPMSC-43, QPMSC-12, QPMSC-18 and QPMSC-29 were found to be more stable and responsive to favorable environments. Among them QPMSC-18 was more stable across locations. The AMMI biplot successfully identified 2 mega-environments as Namulonge and Bulindi in the first mega-environment with QPMSC-29 as the winning genotype and Masaka as the second mega-environment with QPMSC-10 as the winning genotypes. Hybrid, QPMSC-46 was an ideal genotype with above average score for grain yield. The single cross hybrids QPMSC-29, QPMSC-18 and QPMSC-10 were identified as stable yielder across environments in addition to higher yield. These hybrids can be recommended for all the three locations, for cultivation.

Abstract:
At Yarwun (151.3°E, 23.75°S), a trial was conducted to compare 3 papaya hybrids (Hybrid 29, Hybrid 11 and Hybrid 13) under mulching with grass hay or in bare ground. The viability of ratooning a papaya crop was also investigated. After a 16-month cropping season plants were cut to a 750-mm stump (ratooned) about monthly over a 3.5-month period and, following a 4.5-month regrowth period, were harvested for a period of 11 months (post-ratoon). Hybrid 29 yielded (by weight) 54% more than Hybrid 11 and 92% more than Hybrid 13 during the 3.5-month ratooning period. At the commencement of ratooning, Hybrid 29 plants were 41–58 cm shorter than Hybrid 11 and 13 plants, allowing the Hybrid 29 plants to be retained for longer before being ratooned. Hybrid 29 also returned to fruiting more quickly with a greater proportion of plants (97%) with fruit at the first post-ratoon harvest compared with Hybrid 11 (87%). Following regrowth (post-ratoon) the 3 hybrids produced similar yields. All 3 hybrids were equally susceptible to the 3 phytoplasma diseases and to nematodes. The plots mulched with coarse grass hay yielded 70% more during the ratooning period and 116% more post-ratoon than the plots with bare ground. This difference was attributed in part to fewer root-knot nematodes, the roots being more heavily infected with vesicular arbuscular mycorrhiza, the use of the complete upper soil profile by the roots, reduced rainfall run off and less soil loss in the mulched treatment. The highest yielding treatment, mulched Hybrid 29, averaged the equivalent of 55 t/ha.year during ratooning, 43 t/ha.year over the 11-month post-ratoon harvest period and 65 t/ha.year over the entire plant–ratoon cycle. These yields were achieved in spite of drought conditions and quite severe outbreaks of the phytoplasma diseases, dieback, yellow crinkle and mosaic, with 60% of plant positions infected with dieback during the post-ratoon period. Theoretical yield estimations using the data from the plant and post-ratoon crops indicated that ratooning may give superior average monthly yields compared with 2 successive plant crops because of the reduced time required for the ratooned crop to return to production. The study demonstrated the benefits of mulching, the superiority of Hybrid 29 and that ratooning may be successfully used in papaya. In environments similar to Yarwun, Hybrid 29, or similar hybrids, with mulching is recommended for commercial production. If land, time or finances are limiting, consideration should be given to ratooning the plant crop based on monthly cut outs over a 3–4-month ratooning period with vacant plant positions replanted during ratooning.

Abstract:
Because of the rising demand for CO2 emission limits and the high cost of fuel, the electrification of heavy-duty vehicles has become a hot topic. Manufacturers have tried a variety of designs to entice customers, but the outcomes vary depending on the application and availability of recharging. Without affecting vehicle range, plug-in hybrids provide a potential for the automobile industry to reach its CO2 reduction objectives. However, the actual CO2 emission reductions will largely rely on the energy source, user behavior, and vehicle design. This research compares a series plug-in hybrid medium-duty truck against two baselines: nonhybrid and pure electric commercial trucks. As well as evaluating and contrasting the different tools to quantify CO2 emissions, this manuscript offers fresh information on how to simulate various powertrain components used in electrified vehicles. According to the findings, plug-in hybrids with batteries larger than 50 kWh can reduce emissions by 30%, while still meeting the 2030 well-to-wheel CO2 regulations. The recommended battery size for plug-in hybrid is 100 kWh, and for electric vehicles it is 320 kWh. The range of a plug-in hybrid is 18% longer than that of nonhybrid, 6% longer than that of a full hybrid, and 76% longer than that of a pure electric powertrain with a fully charged battery.

Abstract:
One of the main current strategies for cancer treatment is represented by combination chemotherapy. More recently, this strategy shifted to the “hybrid strategy”, namely the designing of a new molecular entity containing two or more biologically active molecules and having superior features compared with the individual components. Moreover, the term “hybrid” has further extended to innovative drug delivery systems based on biocompatible nanomaterials and able to deliver one or more drugs to specific tissues or cells. At the same time, there is an increased interest in plant-derived polyphenols used as antitumoral drugs. The present review reports the most recent and intriguing research advances in the development of hybrids based on the polyphenols curcumin and resveratrol, which are known to act as multifunctional agents. We focused on two issues that are particularly interesting for the innovative chemical strategy involved in their development. On one hand, the pharmacophoric groups of these compounds have been used for the synthesis of new hybrid molecules. On the other hand, these polyphenols have been introduced into hybrid nanomaterials based on gold nanoparticles, which have many potential applications for both drug delivery and theranostics in chemotherapy.

Abstract:
In our experimental study we used the four most commonly grown (in the Czech Republic) sorghum and Sudan grass hybrids from USA (Nutri Honey, Latte, Honey Graze, Big Kahuna) and one hybrid from Germany (Bovital). The aim of the study was to compare these hybrids and to find out the influence of the growing season length on their nutrient composition and digestibility of organic matter. Samples were taken in the first cut, always in 14-day intervals. The crop was sown in early June, sampling started on July 19, 2010 and finished 8 weeks later on September 13, 2010.When assessing the influence of the growing season’s length the following values and development trends were discovered. Constant decreases over the testing period were recorded in nitrogen compounds – by 62 % (133.13 g), easily soluble sugars – 55. 5 % (40.06 g), organic matter digestibility 25.7 % (182.93 g) and NDF (neutro – detergent fibre) digestibility 31.5 % (73.2 g). Increasing trend, on the other hand, was recorded in fibre – by 30.4 % (99.2 g) and its individual components: lignin, NDF and ADF (acido – detergent fibre). In the second part of the experiment we were studying the differences in nutrient composition and organic matter digestibility between the individual hybrids. Honey Graze was recorded as having the highest average content of easily soluble sugars 57.53 ± 0.43 g, with lowest fibre content (272.13 ± 2.49 g), lowest ADF content (331.4 ± 2.88 g) and NDF content (440.4 ± 4.20 g) and lignin (77.47 ± 0.71 g). This hybrid also showed the best organic matter of (657.07 ± 5.28 g); however, no statistically conclusive differences (P < 0.05) in terms of organic matter digestibility were recorded between this hybrid and the other ones. The Bovital hybrid had the highest content of nitrogen compounds over the entire growing season (138.73 ± 0.94 g). Statistically highly conclusive difference (P < 0.01) in nitrogen compounds was found between this hybrid and all the other ones (except Big Kahuna). Upon all the indicators, the best rated sorghum and Sudan grass hybrid in terms of nutrient composition and organic matter digestibility was Honey Graze.

Abstract:
Abstract Bioactive glasses (BG) bond to bone and stimulate bone regeneration, but they are brittle. Inorganicorganic hybrids appear as promising bone substitutes since they associate the bone mineral forming ability of BG with the toughness of polymers. Hybrids comprised of polycaprolactone (PCL) and SiO2-CaO BG were produced by sol-gel chemistry and processed into porous scaffolds with controlled pore and interconnection sizes. The obtained scaffolds are highly flexible, meaning that PCL effectively introduces toughness. Apatite formation is observed within 24 hours of immersion in simulated body fluid (SBF) and is not limited to the surface as the entire hybrid progressively changes into bone-like minerals. The degradation rate is suitable for bone regeneration with a 13.2% weight loss after 8 weeks of immersion. Primary osteoblasts cultured in scaffolds demonstrate that the samples are not cytotoxic and provide good cell adhesion. The in vivo study confirms the bioactivity, biocompatibility and suitable degradation rate of the hybrid. A physiological bone made of trabeculae and bone marrow regenerates. The structure and kinetic of bone regeneration was similar to the implanted commercial standard based on bovine bone, demonstrating that this new synthetic PCL-BG hybrid could perform as well as animal-derived bone substitutes.

"Quelque chose se passait. Je le savais. Cet homme était là. Devant moi. Je ne le connaissais pas. Je ne l’avais jamais vu. Je ne comprenais pas ce qui se passait. Pourquoi il me regardait ?
