D.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Engineering Systems Division, Technology, Management, and Policy Program, 2007.<br>Includes bibliographical references (p. 339-351).<br>We investigate the effectiveness of strategic alternatives that are designed to dampen the cyclicality manifest in the commercial aviation (CA)-related industries. In this research we introduce the conceptual framework of Enterprise of Enterprises (EoE) as an extension and special case of a System of Systems, to facilitate the design of strategic alternatives in an enterprise ecosystem characterized by loosely coupled enterprises. The constituent enterprises in an EoE exhibit managerial and operational independence and have diverse value functions that are often viewed by the enterprises as zero-sum games. We argue that this may not always be the case; for example, in the CA EoE both airline and airframe manufacturers constituents would benefit from a steadier influx of aircraft that counters the current situation that is characterized by relatively stable demand growth rate for air travel while airline profitability and aircraft ordering fluctuate intensely. A strategic alternative geared towards this EoE-wide desired state is "symbiotic". In order to identify such strategies, we use the EoE framework to analyze the CA-related industries and to specify their local value functions and the salient interfaces among them based on an extensive review of the literature on commercial aviation. We develop working hypotheses about the driving mechanisms of the cycle in the CA EoE informed by the literature on economywide and supply chain cyclicality. To test these hypotheses, we extend a system dynamics model of commercial aviation. After testing several individual strategic alternatives, we find that capacity management is key to cycle moderation. We then compare two diverse, non-collusive ways for capacity management: faster aircraft deliveries and semi-fixed production schedules generated by long-term forecasts.<br>(cont.) While both are promising, only the latter alternative is shown to be Pareto optimal. We also examine the potential synergistic effects from combining more than one strategic alternatives for which we also discuss implementation implications. Enterprise models are usually developed with ambition to capture the current or desired situation in enterprises with respect to performed or planned processes, organizational structure (including organization units, roles and competences), products or services produced and IT systems available in the enterprise.The above aspects are mutually reflective. Such enterprise models are often represented in formal modeling languages, like UEML (Unified Enterprise Modeling Language) or GEM (General Entity Manipulator) language allowing for the development of applications, which interprets or compute them. Enterprise ontologies basically allow the representation of the same aspects of an enterprise (processes, organizational structure, products and systems). However, enterprise ontologies use another representation (like OWL- Web Ontology Language) and often are developed for other application purposes than enterprise model. The objective of this thesis is to develop strategies for transforming enterprise models into enterprise ontologies. There should be maximum preservation of semantics and minimum loss of information during the process of transformation. On the basis of meta-model (model to model) transformation, we propose three elements mapping approaches. Each approach has a number of elements mapping rules. After comparative study the best suitable approach according to objective of this thesis is selected for implementation purpose. From a technical perspective, a tool named “EM2EO” is developed, which accepts an enterprise model as input and produces ontology as output.

Our understanding of enterprise restructuring in a transition context is predominantly drawn from the ex-communist countries of Europe. Those countries have their own cultural values, social structures, were subject to the Soviet political and economic managemet styles and had their own political and economic reasons to move to the free market system. Without doubt, these factors had influenced their enterprise restructuring and its determinants. Given this influence, our understanding of enterprise restructuring and its determinants can be considered limited especially when one takes into consideration the fact that mnay developing countries with centrally planned economic systems had moved to the free market system almost at the same time as the ex-communist countries. Very important, the restructuring behaviour of their state and privatised enterprises and the determinants of their behaviour have been neglected by researchers. This neglect was, indeed, a stimulus to carry out a research study on enterprise restructuring and its determinants in Algeria. The aim of this research study was to develop an understanding of the kind of restructuring taking place in the state enterprises slated for privatisation in Algeria and the factors that stimulated or hindered their restructuring from 1990 to 2005. Algeria is a country that combines a mixture of historical backgrounds. It has a history of more than one hundred years of French colonial rule and has a deep rooted link with the Arab and Islamic cultures. It is also a country which had followed, after gaining independence from the colonial rule in 1962, its own style of socialism where the private sector,in light manufacturing and some service industries, was tolerated and workers of the state-owned enterprise were given the power to share the decision makings with management. More significantly, Algerial was and still is a country where almost 90 percent of its foreign revenues come from hydrocarbons export. Its move to the free market in 1989 came as a result of the sharp drop in the price of oil and therefore a sharp decrease in its foreign revenues. It was a move imposed by the IMF in return for the extension of its debts repayment and the provision of fresh loans. With these socio-cultural, political and economic characteristics of Algeria, it was expected that the restructuring behaviour of the enterprises under investigation and the determinants of this behaviour would exhibit some differences from those experienced in the transition countries of Europe. The investigation was carried out on three enterprises operating in different industries: Saidal in pharmaceuticals, the SNVI in heavy vehicles and Eriad Alger in wheat processing and manufacturing. The data was collected and analysed using qualitative and quantitative research strategies. Semi-structured and unstructured interviews were used to collect data on the restructuring actions and their determinants. They were carried out with senior managers at the head offices, divisions and functional departments of the enterprises; managers at the trade union (UGTA); managers at one state-owned consultancy organisation called CNAT; managers at the ministry of industry; two visiting managers at the trade union (UGTA); and a small number of workers of the three enterprises under investigation. A survey using a self-completion questionnaire was also used to investigate the characteristics of the top management teams of the three enterprises. Primary documents such as state, private company and media reports and secondary document such as journal articles and books were also used. The findings drawn from the study reveal that Saidal was the only enterprise that restructured effectively despite the strong competition in its market. This was possible through the determination of Saidal's president general manager and his top management team to restructure and through the enterprise partnership with many multinational firms. The findings also indicate that controllable and uncontrollable factors had significant impact on the restructuring behaviour of the three enterprises. The controllable factors were the corporatisation of the state enterprise and the underdevelopment of the institutional environment. Corporatisation was an important incentive that encouraged effective restructuring but this was possible only when the enterprise was financially healthy, as was the case with Saidal. The financial autonomy of Saidal reduced the intervention of the government administration in its internal affairs. Government intervention was strong when the enterprise was perceived by the government as strategically important, as was the case with the SNVI, or when the government intended to totally privatise the enterprise, as was the case with Eriad Alger. The underdevelopment of the institutional environment, especially corruption, the shortage of technical skills and the lack of adequate market information hampered competition and slowed down effective restructuring. The uncontrollable factors were the trend in the market and the cultural values. The growing market for pharmaceuticals in Algeria was a stimulus for attracting foreign investment in Saidal which consequently encouraged effective restructuring. As for the cultural values, the family and friendship ties, the social responsibility stemming from religious belief, the regional belonging and the legacy of French colonial rule in Algeria played a significant role in the selection and recruitment of managers and workers, in slowing down the progress of shedding workers surplus and in slowing down foreign participation in privatisation. Future research on enterprise restructuring and its determinants in Algeria should be carried out on a larger sample of enterprises with different ownership using quantitative and qualitative research strategies. Research should also explore enterprise restructuring and its determinants in other developing countries which moved to the free market system and in countries which share similar cultural and social structures with Algeria. It is time for researchers to move away from exploring effective and ineffective enterprise restructuring and concentrate more on exploring how partnership with foreign firms, the shortage of technicla skills, the lack of market information and the cultural values, be it religious beliefs, customs of the legacy of colonialism, affect the restructuring behaviour of state, privatised and private enterprises and the determinants of this behaviour.

Various disciplines have contributed to Complexity Science by experiencing the problem of how to design, build and control more and more complex systems (i.e., to ‘beat the complexity barrier’) and tried to suggest some solutions. However, apart from the description of this problem, very few concrete proposals exist to solve it. The observation of this Conceptual Analytical dissertation is that while improved design methodologies, modelling languages and analysis tools can certainly lessen the designer’s problem, they only extend the complexity barrier that a designer (or group of designers) can
deal with, but they do not remove that barrier. The hypothesis of this dissertation is that perhaps the system (or system of systems) and the designer (group of designers) should not be separated and systems should design themselves, out of component systems that have the same self-designing property.
Therefore the informal research questions are:
1. Is it possible to remove this problem from the design of complex systems?
2. If yes how (or to what extent)?
Many disciplines attempted to attack the question of complexity management, and as will be seen, an interdisciplinary approach seems necessary to be able to give useful answers. Enterprise Architecture as a discipline, which evolved in the past 20 to 30 years (initially called 'enterprise integration'), has defined as its mission to bring together all that knowledge which is necessary to maintain enterprises through life (ISO 15704, 2000). MBA Professional Report<br>The Navy's future success relies on its ability to improve its current level of readiness in an environment of limited budgets. The enterprise concept has been the Navy's tool to meet this fiscal challenge. Through better resource allocation, Navy Enterprise seeks to maximize return on investment (ROI). Previous projects have analyzed the results from Sea Enterprise through 2005 and Naval Aviation Enterprise through 2007. Addressing enterprise management in the surface warfare community expands this body of knowledge. This project focuses on enterprise practices in the surface navy. It analyzes how the Surface Warfare Enterprise (SWE) is organized, governed, led and attempted to determine if changes in resource allocation can be attributed to these practices. The results of this project reveal that SWE's application of enterprise management practices through organization, governance, and leadership is largely consistent with corporate enterprise models and recommendations, but also identifies some areas of inconsistency and potential challenges unique to SWE that must be managed carefully. The project identifies some changes in resource allocation that can be attributed to SWE, but is largely inconclusive. Further research into this area is recommended and a course of action is provided.

As a consequence of the increasing requirements on enterprises caused by globalization, fusion of business and IT, new/changing technologies and especially new regulations Enterprise Architecture Management has gained increasing public attention. In this context Enterprise Architecture (EA) can be considered as a holistic view of an enterprise acting as a "collaboration force" between business aspects such as goals, visions, strategies and governance principles as well as IT aspects. For EAs to be useful and to provide business value their formal and comprehensive documentation (data collection and visualization) is essential. Due to the increasing information amount caused by the extending scope on the business as well as on the IT side the EA modelling is cost-intensive and time-consuming. Most of all the documentation is impaired by increasing linking and integration as well as by the striving for automated cross-company business processes. Consequently, the relevant data are widely scattered. Current approaches are largely determined by manual processes which are able to deal only to a limited extent with the new trends. However, a lot of the needed information, above all about the application landscape and the interrelations, is already present in existing Enterprise Service Bus systems used to facilitate the collaboration between applications both within and beyond boundaries. This allows avoiding the expensive task of data collection. This thesis is concerned with the automated documentation of Enterprise Architectures and the support of decision-making using the information provided by an existing Enterprise Service Bus, whereby as a concrete system SAP NetWeaver Process Integration is used. Therefore a tool-aided automated process for the creation and visualization of an Enterprise Architecture model instance is proposed. An essential aspect in this connection is the coverage of the EA information demand set up by EA frameworks such as CySeMoL and ArchiMate, the analysis of the quality as well as the implementation of the logic to transform SAP PI data into EA information. Moreover, several viewpoints are proposed to visualize the extracted data appropriately especially regarding decision problems in the area of the collaboration between applications both within and beyond boundaries.

At the present time, when enterprises have tendency for constant improvements, different tools are used to analyze current state of the business and to introduce organizational changes. Enterprise Modeling is one of these tools. Enterprise modeling can be used for different purposes: to restructure or standardize business processes, to develop business strategy, to capture best practices, etc. Evidently, enterprise models creation is resource-consuming job, since it requires variety of resources, for example labor, time and others. However, resources utilization is always aimed at result achievement, which originates the question of efficiency. There is a need to evaluate efficiency in the area of EM, which starts from defining a set of indicators to be checked. This work presents checklists of efficiency indicators for processes that EM can involve. For this purpose it identifies processes (so-called application areas of EMMs and enterprise models) that EM can involve. All of them are characterized with the help of two concepts: required resources and expected results. Formulated efficiency indicators can be used to analyze efficiency in the area of EM, particularly in application areas of EMMs and enterprise models.

The most important characteristic of enterprise architecture (EA) is that, it provides a holistic view of the enterprise. EA needs to consider about different aspects, views and viewpoints in an enterprise in order to make an enterprise more understandable and communicable to achieve organization goals and objectives. To do this matter EA needs to use different techniques or enterprise modeling methods to achieve different results of EA (documents/artifacts, models, goals/benefits). But many organization for building EA, use their own description techniques and conventions instead of using existing techniques or existing EMMs. They might use one technique which is not appropriate for modeling all aspects of EA. Our purpose is to discover the usefulness of EMMs in the process of construction EA to provide expected results of EA. We investigated about different EMMs to see its usefulness in producing which expected EA result. In order to increase the accuracy of the final results we investigated about different EMMs with respect to important EA aspects. To perform this study we have gone through a survey to validate EA important aspects and essential results of EA. Results of our study conducted based on both using literature review for studying about the usefulness of different EMMs and the results of our survey (EA aspects and results of EA). The results of this research show that Business, Organization, Technical, Information and Decision Making are five important aspects of EA; different EMMs can be used to produce several results of EA. We used table to illustrate the results of the study for each EA aspect separately. Our analysis revealed that the Decision Making and Information aspects of EA could get more help from EMMs compare to the other aspects, since the main focus of some of these methods such as GERAM, GRAI and GIM are mainly accumulated in these two aspects.

[301]-314).<br>Today, the design of business enterprises is much more art than science. The complex structure and behavior of enterprises makes it difficult to untangle cause and effect amidst its components and their relationships. In order for managers to understand how an enterprise's architecture affects its behavior, they need tools and techniques to help them to manage the complexity of the enterprise. The practice of enterprise architecting continues to make advances in this area with reference frameworks that can be used to guide the decomposition and communication of enterprise architectures, but it does not provide tools to analyze the potential behavior of a proposed enterprise architecture. This research seeks to extend the practice of enterprise architecting by developing an approach for creating simulation models of enterprise architectures that can be used for analyzing the architectural factors affecting enterprise behavior and performance. This approach matches the content of each of the "views" of an enterprise architecture framework with a suitable simulation methodology such as discrete event modeling, agent based modeling, or system dynamics, and then integrates these individual simulations into a single hybrid simulation model. The resulting model is a powerful analysis tool that can be used for "what-if" behavioral analysis of enterprise architectures. This approach was applied to create a hybrid simulation model of the enterprise architecture of a real-world, large-scale aerospace enterprise.<br>(cont.) Simulation model analysis revealed potential misalignments between the current enterprise architecture and the established strategy of the enterprise. Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are considered the price of entry in today's business environment, and the number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) retiring legacy systems in favor of ERP systems is increasing exponentially.
However, there is a lack of knowledge and awareness of ERP systems and their potential benefit and effect on performance, and overall value to SMEs. While ERP adoption costs and potential benefits are high, it is not apparent whether the end result will translate into higher productivity for SMEs.
The goal of this study is to evaluate the benefits that accrue to a firm on adoption of an ERP system. In the context of SME, a production function approach is used to assess benefits over short and long term. In addition to the production function approach, a variety of related methods such as those based on stock market valuation and Tobin's Q are examined.
Data were collected using the well-known CRSP datasets for SMEs. Analysis of data suggests that ERP implementation has no effect on firm's performance as measured by profit margins, Tobin's Q ratio and Labor productivity. In fact, ERP investments do not yield noticeable improvements on the performance measures even four years after implementation. Weaknesses in data suggest that the conclusion may be seen as tentative. The results of this research study, added value to the academic knowledge base by helping to understand the effects ERPs have on SMEs overall performance.

It had been established that Enterprise Architecting would be used as an approach to perform the transformation but the way in which the multiple levels of the enterprise would be transformed had yet to be determined. The study began with an investigation into the current state of a low-level component of the MPHE. This investigation invoked Enterprise Architecting techniques to determine the as-is state of this low-level enterprise. Then, the results of the Enterprise Architecting analysis were combined with multilevel analysis techniques to create a framework that supported transformation of a complex, multilevel enterprise. It was determined that upon using Enterprise Architecting techniques to identify the dominant views of a low-level component of a multilevel Enterprise, the structure of the levels the enterprise as well as the interactions between the levels can be used to understand the impacts of decisions made at higher levels of the enterprise. In the specific case of the DoD MPHE, the dominant views were found to be Organization, Process, and Information. By investigating these dominant views in more depth, the ways in which its resources interacted while performing relevant tasks in this micro-level enterprise (Camp Lejeune MPHE) were determined. This information was transformed into objective data, which was then combined with the information about how the levels of the DoD MPHE interact to suggest a framework for modeling potential future states of the enterprise. This will support both the design and selection of a transformation plan for the enterprise. Enterprise systems and applications are getting more and more complex. In 30 years computing has transformed from big single machines to highly heterogeneous systems. Businesses are today depending on a super-sized mixed bag of applications that have been introduced over the years. Businesses have much to gain by obtaining a holistic view of their data and integrating business processes that are spread over different systems. This master of thesis explores critical success factors (CSF) for enterprise application integration (EAI) from the perspective of developing new application into such environment. Based on current research in the field of EAI, and experiences gained from a real-life scenario the report argues for the importance of integration and what the most influential factors for success are. Among many significantly important factors, two main trends emerge as especially important: developer guidance and documentation, and integration functionality. The former leads to success by focusing on developer productivity through the use scorecards, principles and guidance, well-specified interfaces, and skilled EAI employees; and the latter by extending integration functionality to include many-tomany integration strategies and workflows to model the business.

In a rapidly globalizing economy, many communities are stranded in unemployment or work without meaning. This thesis asks the question: can local communities create economic development with fulfilling work? The experience of the author in African development projects is used to pose questions about modernist approaches to development. The alternative approaches to work and human development by Fritz Schumacher, Abraham Maslow and Carl Rogers are melded with the political insight of Robert Putnam, to suggest that the answer to the above question can be positive. This thesis asks the question: can local communities create economic development with fulfilling work? The experience of the author in African development projects is used to pose questions about modernist approaches to development. The alternative approaches to work and human development by Fritz Schumacher, Abraham Maslow and Carl Rogers are melded with the political insight of Robert Putnam, to suggest that the answer to the above question can be positive. This thesis is a study of why and how an authority model of managing state-owned enterprises has remained popular in Taiwan through the past two decades. The subject was chosen because it has to date, been a neglected subject in the literature on Taiwan, even though it is significant to any serious examination of Taiwan's continuing political development and the government's approach to governance. Taiwan has experienced three major milestones of political democratisation over the period, each greatly enhancing the democratic characteristics of the state and also reflecting a degree of absorption of global political and economic pressures. Taiwan's political democratisation has been widely discussed in recent years, but not much attention has been paid to the effect of the political changes on its public sector management. The discussions have simply speculated that the Taiwanese government no longer uses the authoritarian way of governing the country, in keeping with its promotion of democratic development.
However, this research clearly indicates that the change of political regime from the previous Kuomintang (KMT) to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has not meant any significant change in the way state-owned enterprises are managed. The approach of the DPP government resembles that of the KMT government in that it continues with an authoritarian way of managing state-owned enterprises, despite the party's long established commitment to a democratic way. In other words, this huge change has not meant state-owned enterprises are any better placed than they were previously in terms of having a greater degree of enterprise management autonomy.
This research also shows that Taiwanese governments, regardless of which of the two parties is in power, manipulate state-owned enterprise management using the enterprises as a major means of achieving multiple political objectives. In particular, it has become almost endemic in Taiwan's politics that the ruling party manipulates state-owned enterprise management in order to win political elections and protect its political position. In this sense, it has become evident that the democratic way of governance has still not been used within this part of the government yet.

The goals for this study were twofold. The first goal was to identify planning variables for linking both organizational and architectural objectives for developing enterprise integration architecture. The second goal was to validate enterprise integration modeling methodology as a viable planning tool for the design, development, and maintenance of the enterprise integration architecture.
This lack of linkage at the intellectual dimension level can be characterized as having a dysfunctional effect on enterprise integration strategy formulation and infrastructure development. There is a disjoint between adoptions of appropriate information technology in relation to organizational objectives. This includes misapplication of investments in information technology selection and business systems development portfolio, failed information systems projects, architectures that do not support the strategic direction, and the organization's inability to manage change associated with environmental imperatives that impact the firm's ability to define information technology and systems requirements for competitive positioning.
In order to achieve the objectives the author in this research, developed a conceptual Enterprise Integration Architecture Planning Model and Methodology (EIAPMIM) model as the basis for linking enterprise integration architecture objectives and organizational objectives. Research data confirmed the need to effect linkages between organizational objectives and architectural objectives to achieve enterprise integration and validated enterprise integration modeling as the means by which enterprise integration architecture is developed.

Youth enterprise programmes (YEPs) have received substantial government funding and influenced the lives of thousands of young people yet have rarely been the subject of in-depth research. Consequently, there is little evidence on which to assess youth enterprise as a form of public policy. This thesis presents new research to help address this 'gap' in knowledge. This thesis presents a longitudinal study of youth enterprise experiences. It asks what sorts of identities 'disadvantaged' young people hoped to actualise through youth enterprise, how identities are influenced by a YEP and how identities develop through the process of planning, launching, trading in and, often, failing in business. These processes are conceptualised using a novel theoretical framework, the Relational Identity Development Model, which conceptualises identity as emergent from biographical experience and as in relationship with discursive and material structures. The 'disadvantaged' young people in this study hoped to actualise a range of frustrated identifications by starting a YEP business and, so, cannot be understood as simple 'types'. They wrote business plans that can be understood as lifeplans based on the discourse of enterprise as an open route of opportunity. These lifeplans were largely actualised during business launch (although few young people actualised the 'intention' in their business plans to become independent of benefits while trading). When start-up capital was exhausted, YEP participants lacked the material and social resources required to sustain their businesses. Business failure was interpreted in individualised terms, resulting in either devastating self-blame or a belief that, by learning from experience, each individual could employ their personal agency to found a new, profitable business. Business failure most commonly led to planning a new business but, again, these ventures were poorly resourced and seemed likely to fail. Ultimately, then, this thesis challenges the assumption that youth enterprise leads into paid work and argues that, as it stands, youth enterprise cannot be seen as an effective policy of social inclusion.

Increasingly, integration efforts have moved beyond the boundaries of the core or focal enterprise serving as the prime contractor or system integrator to span the entire value chain, to form virtual extended enterprises. These structures allow the members of the virtual extended enterprise to focus on their core competencies in order to collaboratively deliver a world-class product at a competitive price. While integration offers many benefits to enterprises, a high degree of integration is not always desirable or advantageous in a limited duration virtual extended enterprise composed of autonomous companies. Virtual extended enterprises must find a balance between decoupled collaboration and highly coupled integration, balancing the need to closely coordinate their efforts with the need protect the autonomy of their members. The objective of this research is to explore the extent to which a focal enterprise, such as a prime contractor or system integrator, should consider integration across its virtual extended enterprise, identify major barriers to integration, and define key enablers of integration overcoming these barriers.<br>(cont.) Contemporary enterprises depend to great extent on software systems. During the past decades the number of systems has been constantly increasing and these systems have become more integrated with one another. This has lead to a growing complexity in managing software systems and their environment. At the same time business environments today need to progress and change rapidly to keep up with evolving markets. As the business processes change, the systems need to be modified in order to continue supporting the processes. The complexity increase and growing demand for rapid change makes the management of enterprise systems a very important issue. In order to achieve effective and efficient management, it is essential to be able to analyze the system modifiability (i.e. estimate the future change cost). This is addressed in the thesis by employing architectural models. The contribution of this thesis is a method for software system modifiability analysis using enterprise architecture models. The contribution includes an enterprise architecture analysis formalism, a modifiability metamodel (i.e. a modeling language), and a method for creating metamodels. The proposed approach allows IT-decision makers to model and analyze change projects. By doing so, high-quality decision support regarding change project costs is received. This thesis is a composite thesis consisting of five papers and an introduction. Paper A evaluatesa number of analysis formalisms and proposes extended influence diagrams to be employed for enterprise architecture analysis. Paper B presents the first version of the modifiability metamodel. InPaper C, a method for creating enterprise architecture metamodels is proposed. This method aims to be general, i.e. can be employed for other IT-related quality analyses such as interoperability, security, and availability. The paper does however use modifiability as a running case. The second version of the modifiability metamodel for change project cost estimation is fully described in Paper D. Finally, Paper E validates the proposed method and metamodel by surveying 110 experts and studying 21 change projects at four large Nordic companies. This thesis uses two frameworks for effective gamification and makes a realization of part of them, with the aim of proposing a stage before gamification itself: the enterprise anticipation of gamification, which can be either of optimism or apathy. It can reveal to an enterprise willing to foster people’s motivation which gamification elements are more likely to succeed due to the uncertainties that the concept still carries. A survey was used as an instrument to measure people’s expectations towards game elements to increase the psychological satisfaction according to the Self Determination Theory, and shaped by an instrument to measure maturity in lean. The result of the survey in a company showed that there is an overall interest in gamification elements to increase autonomy and competence, but not relatedness, and also that even if people are aware of a gamification project their expectations are not significantly different from those who are not. Future studies should compare if the anticipation towards game elements are correspondent with the actual feelings when using a gamified solution.

Enterprise Wikis werden nach und nach zum alltäglichen Bestandteil der Toollandschaft moderner Wissensarbeiter. Das Aufkommen der flexibel einsetzbaren Intranet-Plattformen geht einher mit der Forderung nach organisationalen Veränderungen wie flache Hierarchien, autonome Projetteams sowie einer dezentralen Selbststeuerung. Neben der reinen Technologiesicht werden damit auch Aspekte der Organisationsstruktur und -kultur unter dem Schlagwort „Enterprise 2.0“ adressiert.
Der vorliegende Beitrag widmet sich der Erforschung der Einsatzszenarien und Einführungsbedingungen von Enterprise Wikis hinsichtlich unterschiedlicher organisationaler Strukturtypen. Hierfür wurden auf Basis eines Grounded Theory-Ansatzes Enterprise Wikis von 15 Organisationen mittels semi-strukturierter Interviews untersucht. Entlang der von Henry Mintzberg entwickelten Klassifikation organisationaler Strukturtypen (Konfigurationen) werden die Erkenntnisse der durchgeführten Unter-suchung beschrieben. Weiterhin wird auch die Rolle von Enterprise Wikis für interorganisationale Beziehungen und Netzwerke diskutiert.
Es konnten abhängig vom organisationalen Strukturtyp unterschiedliche Einsatzszenarien für Enterprise Wikis gefunden werden. Die Mehrheit der Einsatzszenarien liegt dabei in der Unterstützung planerischer und konzeptioneller Tätigkeiten. Vor allen Dingen die Entwicklung von innovativen Lösungen sowie die Zusammenarbeit von Teams können effektiv durch Enterprise Wikis begleitet werden. Nicht in jedem organisationalen Strukturtyp können sich die Potentiale von Enterprise Wikis voll entfalten. Es wurde festgestellt, dass die Einführungsbedingungen für Enterprise Wikis sich ebenfalls je nach vorliegendem organisationalen Strukturtyp unterscheidet. So können starre Richtlinien und strikt definierte Arbeitsprozesse die Einführung und Nutzung von Enterprise Wikis behindern, z.B. bei der Maschinenbürokratie.

In 2005, the US healthcare expenditure represented 16% of its GDP, with hospitals representing the largest source of expenditure, as is the case in the United Kingdom. Consequently, the strategies and operations developed and implemented by hospitals have a significant impact on healthcare. Today, it would be hard to find a hospital that is not implementing a Lean initiative or who isn't familiar with its concepts. However, more often than not, their approach has narrowly focused at a process level and inside individual service units like an emergency department. This research seeks to elevate traditionally narrow hospital definitions of lean and explore the broader concepts of lean enterprise principles and Enterprise Architecture (EA) while enhancing our knowledge of hospitals' socio-technical complexity and enriching an emerging EA Framework (EAF) developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Following an extensive longitudinal multidisciplinary literature review, a number of expert interviews, and preliminary empirical findings, an exploratory inductive and deductive hybrid study was designed to collect and concurrently analyze both qualitative and quantitative empirical data from multiple hospital settings over two main phases: * The first phase consisted of recorded interviews with the Chief Executive Officers of seven leading Massachusetts hospitals, who also provided sensitive internal strategy and operations documents. We explored how hospitals currently measure their hospital performance and how their explicit and implicit practices may be improved using lean enterprise principles. e The second phase comprised two in-depth case studies of large leading multidisciplinary hospitals, one located in the US and other in the United Kingdom, and included a total of 13 embedded units of analysis. Multiple sources of evidence were collected including electronic medical records, 54 interviews, observation, and internal documents. Findings were categorized and sorted, as phenomena of interest consistently emerged from the data, and enriched both the EAF, and our understanding of hospitals' EA in particular. In both in-depth hospital cases we found that their EA consisted of multiple internal architectural configurations, and in particular, those with an enriched understanding of EA had made decisions which had improved not only their local performance, but also enhanced their interactions with other service units upstream and downstream. Conversely, worse performing configurations demonstrated a limited understanding of their hospital's EA. We conclude that hospital performance can be improved through an enriched understanding of hospital EA. To assimilate the legacy organizations, Raytheon and SAS have undertaken great efforts to work as "One Company." One such example has been to strive for an enterprise sales and operations planning process. Five years ago, Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) Operations leaders recognized the need to be more proactive in comprehending forecasted business and subsequent impacts to SAS' manufacturing network. As a result, Program Requirements and Operations Planning (PROP) was born to enable improved supply chain planning for factory labor and capital resources. Enterprise 2.0 är ett aktuellt ämne inom området informatik och syftet med uppsatsen är att se om funktioner, som tillskrivs Web 2.0, kan användas i intranät för att stödja organisationers kunskapsaktiviteter . Arbetet strukturerades runt litteraturstudier i ämnet samt en kompletterande undersökning där trianguleringsmetoden, med enkätundersökning och intervjuer, användes för att studera verkligheten. Resultatet av undersökningen visar att det är skillnad på ett fullt implementerat system, där alla verktyg implementerats, och ett system där bara vissa verktyg finns tillgängliga. Den viktigaste slutsatsen är att just implementerade verktyg är avgörande för hur bra Enterprise 2.0 systemet kommer att fungera som hanterare av kunskapsaktiviteter.

In the recent years co-opetition has emerged as a new theoretical concept, emphasizing the concurrency of competition and cooperation in business rela-tionships. It is considered as an integrative bridge between older contributions which one-sidedly emphasize either competition or cooperation. However, the co-opetition theory is barely applicable for problems of relationships between enterprises because of structural and methodical flaws. Therefore a framework for the modelling of enterprise co-opetition is introduced. A definition for the term co-opetition and determinants of co-opetition models are introduced, which are external institutions, several industrial boundaries and time. An industrial supply chain is introduced as one of the industrial boundaries in co-opetition models that considers the impact of potential participants and distinguishes be-tween individual customers and mass markets. A profit distribution rule is intro-duced for supply chains with individual customers, which considers the impact of excluded suppliers and can be used for the prediction of the outcome of auc-tions. It is shown for both mass markets and individual customers in how far stable agreements can be achieved, facing the problem of ubiquitous time-inconsistency of agreements. Todėl naujai sukurtas koopeticijos teorijos pagrindimas bei determinančių koopeticijos modeliams suformulavimas būtų svarus indėlis į šiuolaikinį mokslą. Reikėtų sutelkti dėmesį į įvairius savitarpio santykius pačiame pramonės tiekimo tinkle bei į įtaką, kurią turi nesančios tinkle įmonės, kurios visgi yra svarbios savitarpio santykiams, ypač kalbant apie derybų rezultatus ir sutarčių stabilumą.

Enterprise architecture aligns organizations business processes, information systems andtechnical layers. Its role has become more challenging than ever before with the modern dayrapidly changing environment and technological advances. Considering these aspects, this thesistries to evaluate the success factors that affect enterprise architecture management.The thesis is done at Volvo Cars, in collaboration with Ferrologic. Twelve success factorssignificant for Volvo Cars’ enterprise architecture management are defined after a series of semistructuredinterviews with architects working at the company. This is followed by a surveyevaluating the factors sent to architects throughout Sweden. In the end, the factors are dividedinto four groups according to their impact level. The survey reveals that the businessunderstanding of the technical side, requirement definitions & handling requirement changes,high-level management involvement, and cross-functionality are perceived to be most impactfulsuccess factors for the industry professionals, in no particular order.<br>Enterprise Architecture är skapat för organisationens affärsprocesser, informationssystem ochtekniska lager. To this end, three propositions are explored: (i) metrics and measurement systems drive transformation, (ii) employee engagement is a proxy to gauge transformation progress; and (iii) metric considerations enable enterprise transformation when systematically executed as part of a transformation roadmap. To explore this problem, the aerospace measurement community was consulted to help grasp a better understanding of the context in which transformation is currently defined and measured. Once the problem space was defined, the environment of doing research with the enterprise as the unit of analysis was described with the intent of exploring the role of metrics and transformation. In particular, the performance measurement literature helped identify tools and methods used to select metrics to enable decision making at the enterprise level. After this review, two case studies were performed, considering: (1) the implementation of a bottom-up measurement system to drive transformation and (2) the effect of a top-down corporate measurement system on the enterprise. The first case study revealed insights regarding the benefits and challenges of implementing measurement systems and highlighted the use of employee engagement as a proxy to measure enterprise transformation. In the second case study, contemporary measurement issues were discussed and mapped to an Eight Views of the Enterprise analysis to identify critical enterprise interactions.<br>(cont.) Ultimately, the Lean Advancement Initiative's Enterprise Transformation Roadmap was used as a method for depicting how performance measurement can help enable enterprise transformation. Since current commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) Enterprise Content Management (ECM) systems are targeted primarily at business environments such as back office applications, financial sectors, and manufacturing, these COTS systems do not provide sufficient focus for managing the unique aspects of flight test data and associated artifacts (documents, drawings, pretest data, etc.). This paper presents our ongoing efforts for deploying a storage infrastructure independent enterprise data management system for maintaining vital up-to-date information and for managing the archival of such data.

to the display workstations and the file servers on the LAN. As the number of
LAN-attached devices such as Loral's System 500 Model 550 (Loral 550) telemetry
front end, workstations, and file servers grows beyond two, the Ethernet LAN
collision rates increase and the throughput slows down. At what point the network
performance declines is a function of the specific application bandwidth demands
required. This paper describes a new method for boosting LAN performance by
providing Ethernet switching and protocol filtering. The performance of the LAN is
critical to the performance of the complete telemetry enterprise architecture.

Lean authors, consultants, managers and thinkers were studied to select and
adopt the best Lean strategies taking in account the traditional business management ERP tool. The detected gaps were eliminated and/or reduced by developing solutions and adopting techniques based on Lean principles.
Lean manufacturing practices were extended into the supply chain contributing now as a horizontal collaboration tool to all enterprise management functions,vendors and customers.
Implementing Lean Accounting techniques allowed an increase of the stream value return, especially in terms of better capacity management capabilities,due decision make based also on non financial metrics.
Due these Lean solutions, the company ERP system can be streamlined to perform the business shift and one of the most important enterprise assets can meet the strategic goals defined for Lean Enterprise Resource Planning.
Therefore this assay proposes the implementation of this Lean strategy to turn
into a lean company, more agile and proactive, to rapidly address the constant
changes in business landscape.

This dissertation explores the use of the efficiency performance measurement paradigm (EM), in terms of its concepts and applications, as an ex-ante mechanism to evaluate enterprise performance and inform enterprise design. The design of an enterprise is driven by decisions that include, but not limit to, which strategies to implement, how to allocate resources, how to shift operating patterns, and how to boost coordination among enterprises, among others. Up to date, EM has been mainly used as a descriptive mechanism, but the fundamental reason for measuring performance in an ex-post fashion, i.e., how well an enterprise does, is also valid in the context of design decisions, i.e., ex-ante evaluation. The contrast between the ex-post and ex-ante use of EM relates to the measurement purpose, i.e., why to measure. Ex-post measurement focuses on evaluating 'what happened' (non-disruptive) while ex-ante measurement emphasizes in informing design decisions exploring changes in current settings (more disruptive). Within this context and to achieve the purpose above, this dissertation is supported by theoretical insights and complemented with three empirical studies. The theoretical insights relate to facts that support, connect to, and challenge (i.e., facilitate or impede) the ex-ante use of EM for enterprise evaluation and informing enterprise design. Those insights are based on the efficiency performance measurement, organizational design and enterprise systems engineering literature. Meanwhile, the three empirical studies situate the application of EM as an ex-ante mechanism to inform evacuation management, bank branch management, and power plants. The theoretical and empirical results indicate that EM is well suited for both evaluating enterprise performance and informing design decisions. The main contribution of this dissertation to enterprise stakeholders is that EM can be not only used to answer how well the enterprise did, but also how well it could do if certain design decisions are taken.<br>Ph. Tato práce se věnuje problematice Enterprise Architecture (podnikové architektuře) a metodice vývoje informačního systému (vyvinuta na VŠE) MMDIS (Multidimensional Management and Development of Information Systems). V práci je zkoumáno zda metodika MMDIS je svým charakterem použitelná i v oblasti podnikové architektury. Pojem Enterprise Architecture zastřešuje veškeré elementy, které utvářejí podnik (či jakoukoliv organizaci) a o vztazích mezi nimi. Nahlíží na organizaci od jejich strategických cílů přes podnikové procesy a informace až po aplikace a technická řešení nezbytná pro její podnikání. Podnikovou architekturu se snažíme zachytit pomocí řady modelů a dokumentů, které vytváříme na základě konceptuálních rámců (framework). Můžeme použít již existující rámce (Zachman, FEAF, atd.) nebo vytvořit svůj vlastní. Tato práce se věnuje nejznámějším rámcům a na základě jejich rozboru definuje obecné požadavky na rámec. Metodika MMDIS je primárně určena pro vývoj informačních systémů. Její otevřený charakter a multidimenzionální přístup však vybízí k použití i v oblasti podnikové architektury. Na základě zkoumání oblasti Enterprise Architecture a rozboru nejznámějších rámců byly v této práci stanoveny obecné požadavky na rámec podnikové architektury. Metodika MMDIS pak byla konfrontována s těmito principy. Tato práce přináší zhodnocení použitelnosti metodiky MMDIS jako Enterprise Architecture rámce a v této souvislosti dále naznačuje možnosti jejího rozšíření a úprav.
