Full textThis essay focus on Lean Management domain, following the ERP business application perspective linked with Lean Supply Chain, Lean Manufacturing and Lean Accounting, build on an electronic equipment manufacture company. Lean authors, consultants, managers and thinkers were studied to select and adopt the best Lean strategies taking in account the traditional business management ERP tool. The detected gaps were eliminated and/or reduced by developing solutions and adopting techniques based on Lean principles. Lean manufacturing practices were extended into the supply chain contributing now as a horizontal collaboration tool to all enterprise management functions, vendors and customers. Implementing Lean Accounting techniques allowed an increase of the stream value return, especially in terms of better capacity management capabilities, due decision make based also on non financial metrics. Due these Lean solutions, the company ERP system can be streamlined to perform the business shift and one of the most important enterprise assets can meet the strategic goals defined for Lean Enterprise Resource Planning. Therefore this assay proposes the implementation of this Lean strategy to turn into a lean company, more agile and proactive, to rapidly address the constant changes in business landscape.

Full textOrganizations are now more than ever before faced with rapid changes in the market place and the need to stay competitive, profitable and satisfy customers and suppliers has driven them to seek technologies that will help them realize these goals. Two of the main con-tenders are Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and E-business related technologies. There appear not to be so many publicized literatures on the relationship between ERP and E-business. It is based on this that this report studied six (6) cases to examine the value of ERP to E-business. This study discusses their relationship, how they impact each other and how they can be made to be more useful when integrated using Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) and empirical research. What transpires from this research is that both vendors and organizations using these two technologies assigns specific values that ERP has on E-business according to their degree of importance. These values in order of importance are; increased competitiveness, increased agility and speed of business operations, improved communication, increased sales, improved business processes, reduced cost and increased profitability. Finally the study examines these values and concluded based on these values to suggest the implications for future research.

Full textThis is a research on strategies of introduction to information systems. The use of information technologies and telecommunications has been on the increase, mainly in the 90s and has greatly propelled the availability as well as the utilization of information conveying an increasing reliance on information. Information plays a vital role and its application becomes fundamental so that it gains strategic value and provide competitive advantages for the organizations. The utilization of information technology by the enterprise management, has been on alternative to prepare them for this new reality. Heavy investments have led results not always satisfactorily achieved. Therefore, it is evident the necessity and importance of an efficient management of technologies and investments so that, in fact, results are significant, considering that information technology is only an effective means so that organizations reach their goals. Thus, some of the strategies found in the literature on the process of investments in enterprise resource planning have been exposed. Moreover, after reviewed cases, some of the strategies used by key suppliers of these systems to large and middle-sized companies in Brazil plus the strategies applied by an information technology executive of a great corporation after introducing an internally developed information system. After the introduction of relevant concepts connected to researches such as, information technology, investment strategy on information technology, organizational strategic planning and of information systems, a bibliographical survey has been compared and confronted with the result of the inquiry held in the companies surveyed. Furthermore, expectations of the organizations as well as those of the most important critical factors of success have been compared invest in information systems and enterprise resource planning. Such comparative analyses have shown the similarities and inactivities found between the theory and experience of a great organization and the reality of great suppliers of enterprise resource planning

Full textIn the summer of 2008, the Global Combat Support System Marine Corps (GCSS-MC) breached both cost and schedule in development of their ERP system. In addition, Navy ERP has had problems, GCSS-Army has been delayed, and the Air Force Expeditionary Combat Support System (ECSS) is currently rebaselining their program. Why are all of these DoD ERP system development efforts having difficulty and is there a better way to implement ERP systems in the DoD? This research focuses on DoD ERP implementation efforts ongoing in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. A macro-level review of six DoD ERP implementations provides a historical perspective reflecting the difficulty all have had in developing their respective ERP systems. A micro-level review of the GCSS-MC program identifies systems engineering challenges the program has faced. The conclusion is that all Service Components have similar requirements and all struggle with development of their respective ERP solution. Much money has been and continues to be spent on ERP implementation and each implementation has taken much more time than was originally planned. It is important for the DoD to take a hard look at how the current ERP solutions have been developed and determine alternate ways to develop similar systems in the future. The DoD cannot afford the billions of dollars that have been spent on multiple system developments and needs to figure out a way to consolidate efforts between the Service Components. These consolidated efforts may provide not only an expedited system development effort but also a common system that can be centrally managed and used to breakdown the unique stove pipe processes within each Service and transform logistics chain management as it is known today.

Full textThe maintenance supply chain involves maintenance, repair, and overhaul organizations and the relationships within and across suppliers and customers. These organizations work with the probability of equipment failure, maintenance, and the use requirements of spare parts. All of these elements increase uncertainty in this environment. Furthermore, it is difficult to integrate and process information to maintain effective inventory control. This high level of uncertainty and lack of integration of information cause inventory excesses and shortages of spare parts needed in maintenance, which results in unnecessary costs. This research proposes a new model based on information processing theories to connect the lateral elements of the supply chain, increase vertical information integration, and transform the maintenance supply chain into an efficient system to decrease shortages and excesses of inventory thereby reducing costs. This research will incorporate a simulation to compare the proposed new model with the traditional inventory models. This study claims that, when using the new model in different situations, inventory performance is better than in the traditional models of inventory control. The importance of the results for the maintenance organizations relates to potential improvements in cost and in inventory control while fulfilling mission requirements.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems can implement by two schemes. One is totally customizing ERP systems to fit the enterprise needs. The other is adopting ERP packages, which are separated design and implementation phases, to supply the diverse enterprises with a generic solution. ERP packages bring economy benefit, but the misfit between the enterprises and ERP packages may be worse and enlarge the project failure risk. The economy, society, and culture bring Asia enterprises unique competency against the West. Compared with the ERP package vendors abroad, the local ERP providers ought to realize the precise demand of Taiwan enterprises. This study attempts to identify the misfit between the Taiwan enterprises and ERP systems which implement by different schemes. By means of case study, this study discusses ten companies with the seven misfit items which is promoted by Soh et al. (2000). The research finds that the fit competency of the foreign ERP packages does not differ from the local ERP packages, so the Taiwan enterprises can adopt foreign ERP packages to fit the organization demand. This research also indicates that the fit would be influenced by the selection of program, so project estimating and selecting phase is the first issue when enterprises implement the fittest ERP.

As information technology develops, global competition becomes keener than ever. Confronted with the scarceness of resources, enterprises cannot put in resources without limit. Therefore, better resources allocation will help raise their competitiveness in the market. Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) is an information management system that can help enterprises allocate their resources best. With this system, the information flow will be integrated to improve the performances of operational process and productivity of enterprises and eventually enhance the competitiveness advantages. Recently, many researchers have studied the factors affecting ERP adoption and its implementation methodology. However, very few of them measure the performance of ERP implementation. Therefore, drawing from the advantages of the ERP system, the purpose of this research is to measure its performance, and investigate the relationship between factors of ERP implementation and its performance. This research has five sections. The first section presents the motivations and purposes of the study. The second presents a literature review. The third discusses the theoretical framework and the research methodology. The fourth presents data analysis. The final section presents discussions and suggestions for further research. This research is based on a questionnaire survey and financial statement analysis. Questionnaires were mailed to 70 companies who used ERP system in Taiwan. After analyzing 28 useful samples with Wilcoxon sign rank test and Spearman correlation, the findings of this research are as followings: 1.ERP systems improve employee productivity and raise the sales significantly. 2.Based on the analysis of financial statements, consulting fees, numbers of modules and company size are positively correlated with employee productivity. 3.According to the analysis of financial statements, company size is positively correlated with the sales. 4.Based on the questionnaire survey, consulting fees are positively correlated with improvements of operations process. 5.According to the questionnaire survey, company size and level of project leaders are positively correlated with improvements of decisions quality and productivity.
