Full textThis thesis analyses the contact of languages in both the social and educational domain and focuses on «the learning of spanish as a foreign language by the bilingual franco-malagasy learner». Indeed, the often inexplicable errors made in work, for the most part written, produced by learners of spanish has aroused numerous questions of both a linguistic and didactic nature with regard to their origin. Amongst the four languages – malgache, French, English and Spanish – used in an educational context and therefore in the learner assimilated was French whereby the common origin of two romance languages would imply either success or failure, a priori shared between the two at the time of learning Spanish. However, the analisis taken from different perspectives of the corpus constituted from the carrying out of classes – input and intake – and from the work produced by the learners – output – brought to the forefront other domains susceptible to providing some of the more plausible explanations social and psychological dimensions of the language characterise the interlanguage not only as an amalgam of previously acquired systems, but also as a combination of the «sous-systems» according to which the targzet language is acquired in a purely procedural manner

Full textTo study the question of writing for deaf persons not based on spoken or sign languages, which seem almost inevitably associated with the study of reading and writing, but based on the writing itself as a means of possible expression and of language acquisition, we have surveyed around fifty deaf and hard of hearing persons. While avoiding a "pro-oralist" or on the contrary a "pro-gestualist" attitude, we were able to study reading and writing in our subjects. The results of our interviews shows that, most commonly the practice of writing is common in our subjects even those with little reading ability. If some of them have difficulties in reading or writing, their relationship to writing is related to communication and language acquisition. Is writing an important but neglected factor in the life of deaf persons?

Zreiki, Hyam. Rennes 2, 2008. http://www.theses.fr/2008REN20028.
Full textThis phD dissertation defines and assesses the actual situation of French language in the school environment, especially after passing the communicative approach (in 2003) within French as a foreign language education. This newly assigned status also defines French as modern language 2 (ml2) after English as modern language 1 (ml1). The examination of this situation involved a field study in Syria (whose aim was to analyse the main actors of the didactic situation. We called upon French language teachers, students, schools inspectors and textbooks’ authors to express their opinion on French language teaching/learning and on the educational benefits of the communicative approach. Although data’s analysis from Syria has shown how much alike other countries worldwide such approach in French as a foreign language teaching/learning situation is, its use still has some national specificity. Instead of applying some all-inclusive communicative approach of western origin, there is indeed a concern to find some semi communicative approach more appropriate to the educational culture in Syria. As a result, this dissertation puts forward alternative ways of setting up into detail these new arrangements of French language teaching in Syria

Full textStudies that address the analysis of the situation of foreign languages in Libya and especially the French are almost nonexistent. It is a policy of improvisation. As a result, the status of the French language remains precarious. As I am a French teacher at university, we have always realized that the teaching of French passed since its reintroduction in secondary Libya an uncertain period. Our experience in this area made us feel the negative effects of the lack of adequate structure on teacher training Libyans in French and on attitude and motivation. The number of students who choose to follow French courses is reduced compared to those who choose English courses, and the conditions which this teaching takes place do not encourage them. We therefore undertook this work which will serve as a developer. With the help of a questionnaire survey conducted in secondary schools, we discovered the difficulties experienced by teachers during their teaching practice, as well as those encountered by learners. These results lead us to make proposals to develop the teaching of French in our country

Full textThe richness of the past tense in the French verbal system is a pitfall for foreign students and one of the greatest difficulties in a language professor’s tasks. Many FSL teachers testify to the difficulties students encounter in learning the expression of temporality, the past tense in particular. Our principal problem is found in temporality and more precisely in the theoretical description of this temporality, so as to furnish a base for teaching French verbal tenses in the past to an adult public, beginners in French university studies. We underline that the difficulty is not morphological but semantic, especially when different tenses are used in the same sentence or in two juxtaposed sentences. In other words, the problem is that in discourse the past tense presents varied contextual values as opposed to their unique value in the language. Because of this, we are studying the different values of these verbal past tenses, founding ourselves on the different existing approaches; approaches which we have first categorized. This work is organized into two parts: the linguistic chapters (1 through 5) and the didactic chapters (6 through 7). Chapter 5 deals with the theoretical position which we have been able to construct through our research. Chapter 6 hinges on the presentation of the analysis of the body, while chapter 7 is consecrated to the didactic propositions as well as to the remediation of the problems encountered by our public. Our work shows forth the supremacy of the “Guillaumienne” approach for our problem

Full textThe new approach teaching and learning of foreign languages, requires a new rule on the relationship between teacher and learner, in the classroom, toward the communicative competence acquisition. Based on the principle that new methodologies must emphasize the learner's needs and motivation for foreign language learning, we carried out a research on the theme of "the use of audiovisual documents in the teaching and learning of french as a foreign language ;. We think from the use of these kind of aids, teacher and learner can rise the objectives aimed for the new methodologies. In the old methodologies, + the teacher's task of classroom management is cleary reflected by his task of discourse management ; (h. Holec, 1977 : 54 : 55). In spite of the problems of the use of audiovisual documents, we think the verbal and non verbal interactions can be installed in the classroon, if the cultural side (from the sound and the pictures) is exploited and used as a teaching tool. This teaching way could change the old management. The results of our research prove the use of this kind of supports, learner can develope his aptitude, at least, for the oral and comprehension skill in foreign language if the cultural side is taken into account. It can also help him on the motivation for the learning of foreign language

Full textWhereas picture has long proved useful in the teaching of foreign languages, which has strongly benefited from the improvement of image technologies (from slides to video tapes, tv-films, CD Rom’s and DVD’s), media and real cinema are still seldom used in the teaching of French as a Foreign Language in Taiwan, and only appear in the academic studies of the classical nouvels or short stories which have been adapted as movies. Our aim is to show that French cinema can be used as a central and foundational tool in a new way of teaching French language and culture. French cinema, considered as an original cultural entity, leads to a specific method to bring foreign students to a sound working knowledge of french language, and we believe that this method provides newer material in the field of educational sciences. We discuss image – film – in all its cultural aspects and its relations to language. We emphasize that image can be extremely rich in meaning, sense, and civilization, and that academic education cannont reduce it to a mere entertaining illustration. Lastly, we analyse the influence of this cinema – based educational method – after a thirty days’ experiment in teaching French language and culture in a Taiwanese university

Full textThe figuring out process by students of the history of their evolution through the i. U. T. Is the object of this undertaking. This figuring out is considered an individual approach worked up during the brief passage between secundary and higher education - depending on psycho- logical and social factors connected to this period. The analysis of the narrative of this apprenticeship to the role of student shows the story of the transition as being on one hand the performance of a "fairy tale" pictured for oneself and on the other hand the discovery of a series of ritualistic ordeals. Some new concepts proposed are : the "transitional project" and "the transitional narrative". Many connections are brought to light : between indivdual and the collective ways of figuring out the passage, between dreamt fiction and realistic project, between the consciousness and the ritualisation of the passage, and between individual and collective narrative

Full textIn our research we tried first to set up the problematic of french teachers' training in Brazil so as to show the importance of intergrating a socio-cultural and context in the object tautht, then we show the actual and urgent preoccupations of teacher-trainers in front of teacher training sessions in France. Last we try and see how this type of training session will also contribute to enable participants observe and act on the multiple teaching situations they have to face during their educational carrier. A corpus has been constructed according to didactical-intercultural hypothesis on the basis of a simple of variables corresponging to various social describers : for teachers in Brazil the data collected from the application forms for a grant (1986 to 1990) archived in french centers ; for those in France in january 1990, an inquiry on various themes ; and for the centres a questionary addressed to the persons in charge of the brazilian groups

Full textThis work demonstrates that despite its analogical shape making it easy to read, picture has to be taught as well as writing. First, history of visual representation shows supposed relations between picture and reality, truth, religion, education and knowledge ; this complexity justifies the need to teach and to learn how to have a good use of picture in the class practices. Then our works deals with integration of pictures in FLE methodologies, underlining advantages and limitations (especially the "language/image"relation and the complexity of visual perception). The aim is to put an emphasis on the relative lack of knowledge in the nature of pictures, source of wrong uses in class. Finally, we propose a training for reading the pictures for which we redefine roles and goals, and the skills the students must acquire. The whole should allow to achieving an optimal use of pictures in class whatever the aid used

Full textThe main focus of this research is on the eventual transfer of competence, both oral and written, from 1 st, 2nd and/or 3rd language to the target language, French. Besides linguistic acquisition, it is pertinent to note that the use of folktale in foreign language study is an opportunity for the students to transfer knowledge from their 1 st and 2 nd languages which will enable them to acquire mastery of the foreign language, especially for those learners from plurilingual background like the students of our study. The results from this study show that the performance of the students was uniform particularly in the areas of pragmatics. The structures of writing in French was much affected by their knowledge of 1st and 2nd languages which interferes with the trget language. From the result of the research, so far, more than 45% of the students produced in french language texts that coherent (in grammar, form, and context). The same students have, either at primary or secondary school level, studied and/or written folktales either in their 1st, or second language and speak and write, on average, 3 languages. The differences observed in the texts written in French by the undergraduate students were mainly in the areas of syntax due to interference of their mother tongue, 1 st language, 2nd language in the target language. We are of the opinion that over time, the students will have a mastery of the French language. Not only are they expected to write in foreign language but also they are learning the language as adults in a formal setting (university) and in country where French is foreign in its real sense. This goes to explain that, learning a foreign language can be easier if aspects of the learner’s culture are included in the curriculum, especially in written expression

Full textThe aim of this study, includes two sections, is to investigate idioms in French teaching as foreign language and in particular, teaching these idioms to Turks. In the first section, firstly, idioms are defined. Secondly, use of the idioms are searched. Particularly, frequency of the daily use of idioms are taken from media, and the importance of idioms in daily communication are emphasized. Lastly, idioms in French as foreign language and in Turkish as mother tongue are compared in order to find similarities and differences of these idioms in two languages. In the second section, firstly, some idioms, which are supposed to use frequently by natives, are found by a questionnaire e, and another questionnaire included these idioms is conducted to Turks who know French very well in order to measure their knowledge about the idioms. In the last of this study, findings and suggestions on use of idioms in teaching foreign language are taken

Full textThis study the relationship between the construction of the scientific concept in a foreign language and the construction of this same language. Being located, from the point of view of linguistic teaching, it gives like objective the contribution of the scientific documents to teaching or training. In a field where students learn sciences in a foreign language that they don't know very well, this these will study, as far as possible, the interactions of the two trainings in question from the psychological point of view and the didactical one. The ideas in VYGOTSKI book ''Pensee et Langage'' are used as reference as well. From another hand, books of ASTOLFI and studies done by VERIN et DUCANCEL, are also important. Pictures used usually in scientific documents are studied with its relationship with linguistic signs. Approach concerning language formation problem: -the language like social practice of reference, to consider in his relationship with the specificity of the didactic situation -the language of its functional role in the constitution of the scientific knowledge, but also the role of the object of the knowledge in the structuring of the language. -The communicative part of the scientific language. Interactions between scientific and linguistic teaching are considered in the same perspective of teaching transfer. Experimentation carried out in EB8 and EB9 classes, emphasized that a conceptual reading of scientific documents is of great textual, language and linguistic interest. Moreover this study draw the attention to the difficulties of learning in this field

Full textSeveral verbal terms that refer to scientific concepts are also those used in everyday life. Therefore, before beginning the formal curriculum, learners have already built their own representation of some of these concepts. Formal-concept learning comes up against the existence of these preconceptions. Conceptual change is a research area studying the nature of these preconceptions and their modification after instruction. In this work, we propose to examine conceptual change by studying changes in the comprehension of two interdependent electrical concepts: closed circuit and intensity conservation of electric current in series circuit. These concepts were examined essentially in two situations. The first is familiar and aims to diagnose the subject's representations. The second situation is unfamiliar and aims to reveal the kinds of representations the subjects use to explain novel situations not usually taught. These concepts were examined for 24 novice adults before and after a two-week vocational training session in electricity. The methodology used to identify subject's representations consists of an analysis of verbalisations. These are collected with a "critical interview" method inspired by piaget's critical interrogation method. Verbalisations are analysed by describing representations in graph form and a series of symbols. Deduced on graphs, every series of symbols gives the subject's representation of intensity conservation and closed circuit notions. In the familiar situation, the results show an improvement of subject's representations especially for the closed circuit notion which seems more "acquired" than "intensity conservation". This latter notion is in contradiction with everyday experience (the materialization of electricity). This improvement suggests that conceptual change can be gradual. Nevertheless, the non-familiar situation results show the reappearance of some representations found before training. This reappearance suggests that the observed change was superficial and that the deep conceptual structures were not modified

Full textThis research focuses on folk tale as an educational aid in the teaching of French in Yemen, stressing the crucial part of the learner’s culture in the learning process. If traditional teaching methods fail to take into account both cultures at the same time, folk tales, as a teaching medium, enable the learner to switch easily from one culture to another. This research focuses on the role of the native culture in facilitating the teaching/learning of a foreign language and the acquisition of cultural knowledge. The domain of this research, therefore, is both the interface of language and culture, and the interaction of intra-cultural and intercultural knowledge. In the first place, it is necessary to approach the different kinds of popular literature and then study folk tale from various angles. In this work, a multidisciplinary approach is important to explain the relevance of folk tale and its potential not only as a teaching aid at the level of individuals but also as a cultural aid at the societal level at large. The educational objective of this work is to analyse the narrative structure of two tales and the written work of students who have used these tales. The study makes a comparative analysis between two tales (one Yemeni and the other French) in order to experiment with them in the foreign language class. The criteria of tale selection was similarity was it linguistic, narrative or cultural similarity. The results of the pedagogical experiment suggest folk tale is an interesting teaching tool that helps learners to improve their cultural, linguistics and intercultural skills. Finally, this theory offers some teaching aids for the use of folk tales in the foreign language class by setting up some teaching activities
