We study the design, the uses, and the effects of these mechanisms in order to understand how online participative platforms are shaped by political strategies, and also shape communication dynamics. In the very specific context of the European Union "democratic deficit", we focus on the models of political mediation that are put in practice on the Internet : can we witness the emergence of European publics online ? Are these mechanisms a place for transnational collective actions ? Do they succeed in empowering "lay" citizens or civil society Organizations ? To answer these questions, this communication study calls upon political science and science and technology studies in order to figure out what is at stake behind this "participative trend" at the European level

Full textFor several decades, beekeepers worldwide have experienced significant losses of honey bee (Apis mellifera L) colonies, yet there are knowledge gaps in developing countries. In the context of global changes, understanding the factors driving these potential losses is essential for adapting beekeeping practices and ensuring the sustainability of this activity. Stingless bees (tribe Meliponini) are also reared for honey production (meliponiculture) in tropical regions. To date, it is unclear whether meliponiculturists face similar challenges in maintaining their colonies, and the factors influencing colony losses remain poorly understood. This thesis aims to investigate the variability in managed bee colony losses (honey bees and stingless bees) in relation to climatic and landscape gradients, as well as beekeeping and meliponiculture practices. To achieve this, we conducted participatory surveys with beekeepers and meliponiculturists in Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa to monitor managed bee colony losses. We estimated significant annual and seasonal loss rates (around 30 %), highlighting the challenges faced by beekeepers and meliponiculturists in maintaining their colonies in these regions. We observed climatic effects on these losses, particularly an increase in honey bee colony losses with temperature in both regions. Additionally, we found that stingless bee colony losses decrease with temperature in Latin America, while they increase with temperature in sub-Saharan Africa (Kenya). Furthermore, we observed a landscape effect, with stingless bee colony losses decreasing as forest cover surrounding meliponaries increased in Latin America. Finally, we detected interactions between climate and beekeeping management practices on honey bee colony losses in both regions. Beekeeping practices may serve as a lever to reduce losses caused by climatic pressures, but management recommendations must consider the climate. For example, in sub-Saharan Africa (Kenya), providing water supplementation during the hot and dry season reduces honey bee colony losses. Our findings contribute to closing the knowledge gaps on managed bee colony loss rates in developing countries, while confirming the influence of climatic and landscape factors, which are likely to intensify with climate change. These results also provide research perspectives for exploring the underlying mechanisms of climatic and landscape impacts on colony losses

Full textThis exploratory study aims to provide information about the use of social media as part of a communication strategy within an Inuit community-based participatory health research (CBPR). Thirty semi-structured interviews conducted with Nunavimmiut (Inuit from Nunavik), as well as the content of six Facebook groups and two Facebook pages, were the subject of a thematic analysis. The goal was to better understand the use of social media by Nunavimmiut, and the best methods to improve communication within an Inuit CBPR. The results show that social media, especially Facebook, is an effective tool to reach and involve local people in the research process, but needs to be included in a broader strategy including traditional media. Researchers also need to culturally adapt their use of social media by respecting the social and cultural norms of Inuit to communicate successfully and generate more locally valuable research results. Landscape is captured as a materiality under construction negotiated along interaction processes between individuals engaged in distinct action logics. The research underlines how Regional Natural Parks’ staff invent imaginative ways to hybridize two of these action regimes (a territorial logic and a landscape one) using participatory landscape procedures. This dynamic tends to favor the territorial anchorage of the new groupings of municipalities. The originality of the thesis emerges from the adopted pragmatic posture: participatory landscape procedures are analyzed along with their own experimentation. They take on the form of an inquiry as defined by Jown Dewey, transforming worlds as well as investigators at the same time

Full textIn the wake of 2007’s “Environment conference of Grenelle”,French authorities decided to instate the Green and Blue Ecological Framework (Trame Verte et Bleue - TVB). This new type of environmental policy is design like a network and aims at reducing “biodiversity erosion” (law nr 2009-967, aug 2009). Deploying such frameworks on the national French territory requir to identify ecological continuities within urban planning documents. Integrating such new operational concepts inside urbanism documents triggers plenty of interrogations. Specifically, it calls into question the unlikely couple cartography and participation. While these terms may seem incompatible on a first sight, we argue that the two practices can be articulated, following a set methodology. By being rooted in a participative approach, our methodological proposal allows to pluralize knowledge sources. It is characterized by a scientific posture that is qualitative, exploratory and inductive. The methodological setting is based on the grounded theory. Through implementing our methodology, workshop participants were progressively led to produce and work on the basis of photograph and maps, both decontextualized and regular. Changing media implied a shift from a “tangential” point of view to a “zenithal” perspective. We understood a qualitative difference between “group work” on the one hand and “collective work” on the other hand. In order to facilitate the shift from individual- to collective–grade work, we allowed the participants to conceive and test their argumentative narrative prior to entering the public arena. Our field of study was the region “Poitou-Charentes”, where we observed the deployment of the Regional Ecological Coherence Framework (SRCE in French - Schéma Régional de Cohérence Écologique). Our observations led us to conceive an innovative and participative approach merging plurality of knowledge sources, to identify the ecological continuities in the Bressuire hedgerow. Hinging on participative conception, the various workshops organized resulted in producing a series of maps that expand the scope of spatial representations of ecological continuities, instead of producing a single synthetic map

Full textDe plus notre pratique d'enseignant et de tuteur dans des formations à distance, doublée du constat de l'isolement des apprenants et leur besoin de collaborer, nous a amenées, depuis 2000, à nous interroger sur la place de l'apprentissage collectif et/ou personnalisé dans un dispositif de FAD. En effet, ces dernières sont souvent considérées comme la diffusion de connaissances et de contenus . Dans ce type de dispositif, les interactions s'établissent surtout entre « contenus médiatisés et apprenants » au détriment de la relation « enseignant - apprenant » . C'est pourquoi, nous pensons que ces apprentissages à distance doivent, d'une part, être l'occasion de mettre en œuvre une pédagogie différente et plus active, et d'autre part, reposer sur une analyse des besoins des usagers, à partir de laquelle sont conçues des activités pédagogiques adaptées et ce dans un contexte transdisciplinaire. Nous avons alors proposé une méthodologie de conception participative centré sur l'usager. Des questions pédagogiques sont alors sous-jacentes, notamment : comment lier un apprentissage collectif et personnalisé ? Quels modes d'activités est à proposer pour favoriser ces types d'apprentissage ? Quelle est la place réservée aux outils de FAD ? Comment les enseignants produisent leurs activités pédagogiques et leurs ressources ? Ou bien encore, des scénarios à priori sous-jacents aux activités pédagogiques existent-ils ? Ces questionnements ont orientés notre recherche vers la conception des systèmes supports d'apprentissage à distance alliant une approche collective et personnalisée et vers la conception d'outils d'aide à l'enseignant.
