Abstract:
This paper focuses on the largest source of human knowledge: The Web. It presents the state of the art and patented technologies on search engine, automatic organization of webpages, and knowledge-based automatic webpage summarization. For the patented search engine technology, it describes new methods to present search results to the users and through browsers to allow the users to customize and organize webpages. For the patented classification technology, it describes new methods to automatically organize webpages into categories. For the knowledge-based summarization technology, it presents new technics for computers to "read" webpages and then to "write" a summary by creating new sentences to describe the contents of the webpages. These search engine, classification, and summarization technologies build a strong framework for knowledge engineering the Web.

Full text
Abstract:
By adopting a structured knowledge-level approach, coordination knowledge can be ascribed to groups (societies) of system components (agents) as a whole, rather than to individuals, in order to effectively rationalise complex patterns of interaction within intelligent (multi-agent) systems. Be it either explicitly represented at the symbol-level or hard-coded within specific coordination algorithms, coordination knowledge is instrumented by a wide and heterogeneous variety of coordination models, abstractions and technologies. Coordination knowledge engineering is then about eliciting, modelling and instrumenting coordination knowledge in a principled and effective manner. In this introductory article, we briefly review two well-known frameworks to conceptualise coordination, then we discuss different dimensions along which coordination models can be classified, and analyse their impact on the design of coordination mechanisms and their supporting coordination knowledge. Finally, we sketch our view on coordination knowledge engineering and introduce the different contributions to this special issue along this line.

Abstract:
We present a review of the historical evolution of software engineering, intertwining it with the history of knowledge engineering because “those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” This retrospective represents a further step forward to understanding the current state of both types of engineerings; history has also positive experiences; some of them we would like to remember and to repeat. Two types of engineerings had parallel and divergent evolutions but following a similar pattern. We also define a set of milestones that represent a convergence or divergence of the software development methodologies. These milestones do not appear at the same time in software engineering and knowledge engineering, so lessons learned in one discipline can help in the evolution of the other one.

Abstract:
This paper presents a framework for the integrated use of formal knowledge engineering methods and data mining based knowledge discovery methods. Knowledge is a key enterprise asset, and organizations are adopting both knowledge engineering and knowledge discovery paradigms for better knowledge management and enhanced decision support capability. Although there exists a useful interdependence between these endeavors, not much effort has been focused on using the full potential of one for the other. This paper presents a framework for the integrated use of established formal knowledge engineering methods and knowledge discovery processes with the ultimate intent of better managing the enterprise knowledge life cycle. It provides a brief overview of the knowledge discovery processes, and introduces a class of formal knowledge engineering methods and the perceived role of these methods in supporting the integration between the two worlds of knowledge discovery and knowledge engineering.

Abstract:
Knowledge management today is a promising area of research, since, as an independent disci-pline, in fact, it appeared in Russia and began to develop from the second half of the 2010s. The initial data for Russian researchers were foreign materials and publications, since in the West knowledge management emerged as an independent field of knowledge somewhat earlier, approximately from the beginning of the 20th century. Knowledge management trends began to emerge within large IT corporations, which began to reveal the connection between innovations produced by organizations and the transfer of knowledge between employees. The authors of this article aimed to provide a detailed overview of current modern trends in knowledge management, as well as explore their philosophical justification. The article discusses such trends as: the study and development of the concept of knowledge management itself, the development and im-provement of KMS, as well as knowledge management models, the study and identification of knowledge management tools. For each of the listed areas of research, a review of the literature is given, as well as the features of knowledge management as a discipline. According to the results of the review, it can be argued that the trend that began within Western IT corporations to preserve and reuse knowledge within the company is actively spreading not only to other industries, but also globally, acquiring its own unique features as an independent area of research.
