Goodrich, Chanda Gurung, Dibya Devi Gurung, and Aditya Bastola. State of gender equality and climate change in Nepal. International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.53055/icimod.790.

Full text
Abstract:
The State of Gender Equality and Climate Change is a series of reports covering countries across the Asia-Pacific (Vietnam and Cambodia), and Nepal. The report raises awareness about the need for gender-responsive climate action, analyzes gendered impacts of climate change, and suggests ways to enhance and mainstream gender equality into climate-relevant sectoral policies and actions. The objectives of the report are two-fold: 1. To strengthen country-driven processes by presenting more evidence of the links between gender equality and climate change and analysing gendered impacts in the forestry, agriculture, energy, and water sectors; and 2. To provide country-specific recommendations on enhancing gender responsive policy implementation and actions to further augment the integration of gender equality in climate relevant policy areas. The Nepal country report was prepared by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and UN Women.

Abstract:
This chapter describes the contributions of the scientific community in the development of international climate change law, highlighting in particular the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC’s) assessment and research of the scientific, technical, and socio-economic information relevant for the understanding of the risk of climate change. Since the Panel’s establishment under the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in 1988, it has released several scientific papers that provide a clear scientific view on the current state of knowledge in climate change. The chapter examines the core of the IPCC’s assessment reports, which are divided into three working groups that deal respectively with the ‘Physical Science Basis of Climate Change’, ‘Climate Change Impact, Adaptation and Vulnerability’, and ‘Mitigation of Climate Change’. The IPCC also addresses specific areas, such as renewable energy, disaster management, and climate engineering.

Abstract:
Law | Environment | Africa compiles the proceedings of the 5th Symposium and the 4th Scientific Conference of the Association of Environmental Law Lecturers from African Universities (ASSELLAU) in cooperation with the Climate Policy and Energy Security Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa run by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The book’s aim is to explore, review and analyse recent developments at the point where the law and the environment in Africa overlap. The collection comprises 32 chapters by legal experts from central, eastern, southern and western Africa. It is divided thematically into four parts: 1.) Climate change and energy 2.) Natural resource governance 3.) Water governance, management and use 4.) The role of the law in regulating social and environmental impacts associated with human activity These subjects are discussed in the context of national, regional and international law frameworks, which are central to Africa’s quest to attain its desired and sustainable development trajectory within the confines of the continent’s valuable yet fragile ecological infrastructure.
