Abstract:

Les émissions de particules d’un moteur à combustion interne de type allumage commandé sont très variables. La richesse du mélange air/carburant ne suffit pas à définir parfaitement la fonction de caractérisation de ces émissions. Des essais ont souligné l’importance du phénomène de balayage de l’huile par les gaz du blowby sur les émissions de particules Ceci est due à la position des segments qui tournent continuellement autour de leurs gorges. La fonction de caractérisation des émissions de particules a été complété en tenant compte de ces nouvelles conditions. Puis, la création d’un modèle de simulation des gaz du blowby sous GT-suite a permis de caractériser ces flux et d’appréhender ces mécanismes. Par exemple, au ralenti, il se créé un phénomène d’accumulation d’huile sur la couronne du piston. Des essais expérimentaux ont confirmé l’importance de la durée du ralenti sur les émissions de particules. Enfin, l’étude de l’impact du vieillissement de l’huile et du filtre à huile sur les émissions de particules a été investiguée. Un ensemble « huile + filtre » vieillit dans des conditions réelles présente un taux d’émission de particules deux fois plus important qu’un ensemble neuf. Finalement ces travaux ont permis de compléterla fonction de caractérisation des émissions de particules afin d’être plus en adéquation avec les conditions réelles de fonctionnement d’un moteur à combustion interne de type allumage commandé
Particulate emissions from a spark ignition engine are highly variable. The equivalent ratio of the air/fuel mixture is not sufficient to perfectly define the characterisation function of these emissions. Tests have highlighted the importance of the phenomenon of oil scavenging by the blowby gases on the particulate emissions. This is due to the position of the piston rings which rotate continuously around their grooves. The particle emission characterisation function was completed taking into account these new conditions. Then, the creation of a blowby gas simulation model in GTsuite allowed the characterisation of these flows and the understanding of these mechanisms. For example, at idle conditions, oil accumulates on the piston crown. Experimental tests confirmed the importance of the idling time on particle emissions. Finally, the impact of oil and oil filter ageing on particulate emissions was investigated. An "oil + filter" assembly aged under real conditions has a particle emission rate twice as high as a new assembly. Finally, this work has allowed to complete the particle emission characterisation function in order to be more in line with the real operating conditions of a spark ignition engine

Carbon nanotubes have demonstrated unique characteristics of strength, flexibility, and electrical conductivity. The ultimate goal of this research is to develop a chemical synthesis of a [5,5] carbon nanotube endcap. Three different projects were undertaken in an effort to realize this goal. The first was the production of appreciable quantities of tetrabromocorannulene, a precursor to the endcap. Resumo: Este trabalho consiste em uma leitura de Fim de Partida, de Samuel Beckett, construída a partir da hipótese de que esta peça, com o que pode ser definido como uma recusa sistemática a tudo o que lhe venha de fora, é capaz de integrar à sua própria estrutura formal os impasses gerados pelas tentativas de interpretá-la, em um movimento que paradoxalmente fortalece cada vez mais sua lógica interna à medida que a interpretação é negada. Ao longo de três capítulos, busca-se investigar as diferentes ramificações dessa ideia como forma de esboçar a posição-limite na qual a peça se encontra: no primeiro capítulo, a hipótese em questão é desenvolvida a partir da leitura de alguns objetos de Fim de Partida, e a partir disso se argumenta que os personagens se aproximam mais de seus objetos fraturados e ausentes do que de pessoas; no segundo, a condição desses personagens é desenvolvida no sentido de um confronto entre duas formas de temporalidade, a progressão e a circularidade, submetidas ao mesmo princípio de escassez que atravessa outros níveis da peça; no terceiro capítulo, a hipótese central é a de que em Endgame são colocados em questão diversos procedimentos do humor de forma altamente destrutiva, e a significação retroativa que seus destroços passam a ter adquirido nesse processo podem ser extrapolados de modo a produzir um pequeno vislumbre, de dentro da própria peça, tanto de seu estatuto de obra de arte, quanto de sua relação complexa com a tradição
Abstract: This work consists in a reading of Samuel Beckett's Endgame built upon the hypothesis that the play, through what can be defined as a deliberate exclusion of everything external to it, is capable of integrating the resulting deadlocks from the attempts of its interpretation to its own formal structure, in a paradoxical movement that strengthens the play's internal logic through the denial of interpretation. Throughout three chapters, this work aims to explore different ramifications of that idea in order to outline the boundary represented by the play: in the first chapter, the interpretative hypothesis is developed upon a reading of the objects of Endgame, culminating in the idea that its characters are closer to the absent and fractured objects that they demand than to proper persons; in the second chapter, their condition is developed in the sense of a confrontation between two forms of temporality, progression and circularity, which are submitted to the same principle of scarcity that penetrates other levels of the play; in the third chapter, the central hypothesis is that Endgame puts into question some procedures of humor in a highly destructive manner, and that the retroactive meaning acquired by the resulting ruins of this process may be extrapolated into a glimpse, from within the play itself, both of its status as a work of art and of its complex relationship with tradition

The pencil shoulder cutting device is a stepper motor driven mechanism to cut a small groove into the end of a pencil, which is needed for a novel seed-capsule endcap for a new pencil called Sprout. The pencil was developed by a team of MIT graduate students, and the shoulder cutting device is one step in an automated assembly process for Sprout. The device autonomously cuts a 0.0075in. deep shoulder into one end of the pencil using a 0.25in. end mill. The device includes a stabilizing sleeve that reduces vibration of the pencil during machining, and creates a vacuum seal so that chips from the pencil are cleanly removed. The cutting time for each pencil is 2s, with an absolute accuracy of 3.1x10-4 in. for the depth of cut after ten tests with the machine. The capsules fit correctly onto the shoulders when done by hand, and the design will be confirmed once the entire machine is running autonomously.

Abstract:

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is planned to be upgraded to the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC), increasing the rate of collisions and producing more particles passing through the detectors. This increased production rate will require upgrades to the detectors in order to cope with the large increase in data collection and radiation as well as improving the tracking and particle reconstruction in the higher occupancy environment. A major upgrade to ATLAS, one of the LHC detectors, will be replacing the current Inner Detector (ID) with a fully silicon semi-conductor based Inner Tracker (ITk). The research and development phase of the ITk requires a simulation of the sensors for performance simulations and testing the sensors in testbeams. The ITk strip end-cap sensors will use radial geometries, however the current testbeam telescope simulation software (AllPix) and reconstruction software (EUTelescope) are designed with cartesian geometries. Presented is the work behind implementing a radial geometry for one of the ITk strip endcap sensors, the R0 module, in the simulation software of Allpix and the reconstruction software of EUTelescope. Included in this work is the simulation of the propagation of the charge deposited in the sensor by the beam. The simulated data, as well as data from the actual EUDET testbeam telescope at DESY, Hamburg are both reconstructed with the same reconstruction software and analysed using the same post-reconstruction software. A comparison of the simulation to experiment is then performed, in particular to study the residuals, efficiency and charge sharing of the R0 module.

Omaha Hi-Lo Poker is a variant of the game of Poker, with more possibilities resulting from having four cards per player and a split Hi and Lo pot, compared to Texas Hold’em Poker. Recently published algorithms, commodity cloud computing, and graphics processor acceleration enable the analysis of more complex games. We use the newly published CFR+ algorithm, OpenCL heterogeneous computing framework, and Amazon Web Services cloud computing to analyse Omaha Hi-Lo Poker. Using these tools, an endgame jam/fold e-Nash Equilibrium is found and a scoring heuristic that approximates this equilibrium strategy is constructed.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis compare and contrast the recent development of automatic drumlin mapping. Historically, in Sweden and worldwide, drumlin mapping have been conducted manually using in field query, orthography or visual examinations of LIDAR data. The drumlin extraction analyst uses concentric contours to extract and quantify drumlin like features from LIDAR data. This mapping method and similar automatic and semi-automatic procedures have shown promising results. Here, the use of the drumlin extraction analyst is double. First it is evaluated as an automatic mapping method, the first known automatic mapping procedure applied on the Västerbotten landscape. Secondly, its fully automatic process with limited selections made within the script makes it appropriate to use as an evaluator of the drumlinization of the Västerbotten landscape. The main hypothesis is that the automatically extracted drumlins will only deviate significantly by size and parameters corresponding to size compared to the expert manual mappings of the area. This would, according to the author, indicate that chance plays a major role within the enquiry of these automatic methods. Test results from the Västerbotten landscape show that the automatic mapping have an accuracy of 4% when comparing these with expert mappings. About 200 drumlin like features previously undiscovered are found. When taking these into the consideration the accuracy increases to about 20%. Assuming the drumlin extraction analyst is highly capable of mapping every knob in the landscape, these results indicate that the chance of extracting drumlins from the glacial landscape should not be neglected.

Abstract:

The following paper will deal with the actantial place of memory and history in the works of Ge Fei, a so-called avant-garde writer in China. Analyzing his three major novels published in the nineteen-nineties, as well as an earlier short story, the paper will discuss how Ge Fei renegotiates the status and place of the literary subject as configured through the act of writing, and its close relationship with the medium of memory and history. Contrary to the prevailing opinion, the avant-garde experiment in Ge Fei's works does not intimate the dissipation of the subject, but rather assists in reconfiguring it in an entirely new and dynamic conceptualization. Instead of a figural e/End and vulgarization of literature in the nineties, Ge Fei's experimentation with the acts of writing and reading, as well as his play with language, open up new possibilities for the writing of new literatures in contemporary China.

Abstract:

Vårt syfte med vårt gestaltande examensarbete är att få svar på hur två 18 åriga tjejer, Minna som läser bild och form på gymnasiet och Miranda som hoppat av skolan upplever/upplevde skolan, hur de ser tillbaka på ett tidigare projektarbete, ”lära på riktigt” som genomförts tillsammans med oss då de gick i niondeklass, samt hur skolan utmanar/utmanat dem. Vi valde att låta vår undersökning resultera i en film. Filmen innehåller dokumenterat material med kvalitativa intervjuer med Minna och Miranda, deras estetiska uttryck samt vår personliga gestaltning av projektet. Genom kvalitativa intervjuer och samtal med informanterna fick vi flera bilder av skolan och vilken inverkan den har/haft på informanternas liv. Både Minna och Miranda ser med positiva ögon tillbaka på vårt gemensamma projekt ”lära på riktigt”. De menar att det var lustfyllt och betydde mycket för dem då all annan undervisning upplevdes som stressande och prestationsinriktat. De beskriver ”lära på riktigt” som ett projekt där de fick göra vad de ville och göra det fullt ut. Vidare gav intervjuerna oss olika svar på vad lust kan vara, hur den väcks och hur den släcks. Vi får också reda på hur informanterna upplever skolan utifrån en rad olika perspektiv. Det är en personlig bild som ges. Vi har tittat på Minna och Mirandas sätt att svara, hur de svarat på de frågor vi ställt och på deras kroppsspråk. Detta har vi gjort med semiotiska ögon där vi tolkat det vi sett i det filmade materialet. Vår bild av skolan och val i livet har vidgats efter vår undersökning. Fler frågor har väckts och bilden av att allting inte behöver vara svart och/eller vitt har ytterligare förstärkts. Att skolan är något som de flesta av oss kan relatera till på ett eller annat sätt, visar att det finns mycket att säga om den. Genom vårt resultat konstaterar vi att skolan är av vikt men att den inte är den enda vägen att välja.

Jag har utvärderat Umeåregionens bibliotekssamarbete. Samarbetet innebär att biblioteken i kommunerna Bjurholm, Nordmaling, Robertsfors, Umeå, Vindeln och Vännäs har en gemensam bibliotekskatalog och att låntagare har ett lånekort som gäller för hela regionen. Låntagare kan låna och lämna tillbaka media på samtliga bibliotek i regionen. Syftet med utvärderingen är att kartlägga låneflödena mellan biblioteken i regionen för att få kunskap för att utveckla medieförsörjningsstrategier och –metoder på biblioteken. Utvärderingen innehåller en översiktlig kartläggning av låneströmmarna i hela regionen samt en mer detaljerad kartläggning av låneströmmarna mellan Umeå stadsbibliotek och Ålidhemsbiblioteket (Umeå kommun). Jag har tittat på låneströmmarna så som de såg ut under 2009. Mina resultat visar att samarbetet verkar fungera på ett tillfredsställande sätt. Samarbetet har lett till ett stort medieutbyte mellan biblioteken. Det verkar inte som att något bibliotek eller någon kommun har förlorat på samarbetet. Umeå stadsbibliotek fungerar som ett nav för resten av biblioteken i regionen. Vad gäller lånen från ett bibliotek till ett annat lånas media i första hand in från den egna kommunen, i andra hand från ett annat huvudbibliotek och i tredje hand från en annan kommuns filial eller kommundelsbibliotek. Vinsterna som samarbetet innebär verkar vara större än dess kostnader. Jag har bland annat kunnat konstatera att det skickas mycket facklitteratur från Umeå stadsbibliotek till Ålidhemsbiblioteket, något som kan bero på att studenter boende kring Ålidhemsbiblioteket lånar mycket kurslitteratur.

Abstract:

The development of the Aluminum and Paper industry is assessed by A.T. Kearney’s Merger Endgame framework. The implications for Norsk Hydro and Norske Skog are also addressed along with value creation opportunities for the corresponding stockholders. The Merger Endgame framework reveals that up/midstream in the Aluminum industry is entering the Balance and Alliance Stage while downstream is deconsolidating. The implications for Norsk Hydro are that the ability to cooperate and build joint ventures will be increasingly important in up/midstream while the rivalry is likely to increase downstream. Norsk Hydro has invested heavily in up/midstream and is well positioned for such a development in this business area. However, the company’s expansion in up/midstream and the increasing rivalry downstream imply that the management does not have the capacity to build top performers within these two business areas which rely on different skills. The greatest value creation opportunity is therefore to further demerge downstream operations in order to secure operational mobility and responsiveness to shifting market conditions. The Merger Endgame framework reveals that the Paper industry is entering the Focus Stage. The implication for Norske Skog is that the industry will continue to consolidate but at a slower speed. Financial distress and unsustainable prices in Europe are limiting Norske Skog’s ability to invest in value creation opportunities or assess acquisition targets on its own. Further consolidation in Europe might limit the current overcapacity problem but the Merger Endgame framework reveals that the consolidation speed is decreasing. From the perspective of the stockholders the greatest value creation opportunity is therefore to sell to liquidate. However, Norske Skog is not considered an attractive acquisition target and potential acquirers are limited. If neither a partner is found nor a consolidation within the newsprint and magazine segment occurs, there is a severe risk of bankruptcy in the future for Norske Skog. The Merger Endgame framework’s main strength is its potential to make Porter’s five forces analysis more dynamic. The main weakness is the uncertainty regarding the correctness and precision of the framework. Further empirical research is needed to evaluate the framework as there are several weaknesses in its empirical foundation.

The Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) insurgency is Africa’s oldest, lasting for over 25 years. This work studies the LRA to find out why it has survived so long and how. A combination of empirical methods was used to analyze data related to the LRA and the countries affected by the LRA insurgency. The findings show that the LRA prolonged its insurgency by taking advantage of its environment, including elevation, watered areas, the road network, land cover, proximity to state capital, and moderate population density. The LRA also exploited the political situations in the region, such as the rivalry between Uganda and Sudan, and the fragility of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic, South Sudan, and Sudan. Last, the LRA modified its organizational structure according to the political and military situations it encountered, which enabled it to adapt and evade the threat of termination. The effectiveness of these methods of survival depended on the intuition of the LRA leadership. The author recommends both kinetic methods to manhunt LRA leaders and non-kinetic (psychological) operations to degrade the LRA’s strength by encouraging mass defections from its ranks.

Abstract:

This thesis describes the design and implementation of a prototype LLVM compiler backend, x86-64p, that compiles code written for a DSP architecture, FADER, into executables for the x86-64 architecture. The prototype takes LLVM IR generated for the FADER architecture and compiles x86-64 executables that emulate the properties of the DSP architecture, e.g. the multiple address spaces, the big-endianness and the support for fixed-point arithmetics. The backend is compared to a previous solution, C-Emu, that converts the DSP code to normal C code that is compiled using a normal x86-64 compiler. The two solutions are compared in terms of their correctness, debuggability and performance. The created prototype handles code containing low-level architectural assumptions better than C-Emu. However, the added emulation reduces the debuggability and performance of the generated executables. We have measured a runtime overhead of up to a factor of two compared to C-Emu. We also present some possible solutions for these issues.

Studying and understanding acoustic scattering pattern from underwater targets has been of interest to various communities such as the archeologists and the navy for several reasons and applications. The present state-of-the-art technique in this area involves such methods as analytical approach and FEM/BEM numerical technique. This thesis aims to study and demonstrate the power of using the hybrid virtual source/FE approach where the physical presence of a target is replaced by virtual sources placed in the vicinity of the target and in a manner where the pressure/displacement relationship on the target surface is satisfied by the virtual sources when the target is being insonified. Accurate results for the far-field radiation of the target can be obtained by superposition of the point source Green's function of each virtual source. The hybrid virtual source/FE approach shows potential to be a computationally efficient method for computing acoustic scattering. The derivation of the dynamic flexibility matrix for an elastic conical shell with endcaps will be illustrated in this thesis. It will be shown that the dynamic flexibility matrix corresponds to the acoustic admittance matrix in the virtual source approach where the scattering functions are computed in the MIT's program OASES/SCATT.
(cont.) Moreover, the benchmarking and validation of the approach will be conducted with the hybrid analytical/ virtual source approach. Firstly, the approach predicts natural frequencies close to the theoretical analysis for higher order modes with more than 2 circumferential transverse vibration lobes. Secondly, it produces displacement profile that conforms to analytical results. The scattering functions are also in agreement those computed by the hybrid analytical/ virtual source approach, with discrepancies observed at lower frequencies. In exact terms, discrepancies start to appear for frequency in the range of 1000 to 2000 Hz for a 0.01m thick, 2 m long, 0.3m radius steel cylinder without endcaps. The scattering functions will be compared with the SCATT/OASES virtual source approach for pressure release and rigid cylinders and cones. For the hybrid FE/virtual source approach, the structural sound speed and density approach zero and infinity for pressure-release and rigid target respectively. On the other hand, in the SCATT/OASES virtual source approach, the pressure and displacement are required to vanish on the target surface respectively. It will be shown that the two approaches agree with each other.
(cont.) Moreover, scattering functions over steel cones and cylinders for various frequencies have also been derived in this research. The results will be interpreted physically and theoretically in this thesis. The importance of including structural damping in the finite element formulation of the target so as to reflect the effect of resonance on scattering will be illustrated. Other issues, such as effect of target orientations on scattering, will also be investigated in this thesis. The code has shown good potential for adaptation to compute scattering over other axisymmteric shapes using conical shells and circular plates as building blocks and the hybrid FE/ virtual source approach.

Syftet med vår studie är att lyfta fram ämnesintegreringens positiva möjligheter för att få ele-verna mer motiverade i kärnämnena. Med hjälp av intervjuer med kärnämneslärare, karaktärs-ämneslärare, resurslärare och skolledare samt enkätundersökningar med elever på gymnasie-skolor som har yrkesförberedande program har vi försökt att komma fram till gemensamma metoder som skulle kunna öka ämnesintegrering och därigenom ge eleverna ökad motivation och förståelse för att kärnämnena är lika viktiga som karaktärsämnena. Vi har delat in resulta-tet i fyra olika delar: samtal och intervjuer med lärare som undervisar på yrkesförberedande program, en djupintervju med en skolledare på en skola som har yrkesförberedande program, enkätundersökningar med elever på yrkesförberedande program samt egna observationer un-der kurser med ämnesintegrering. Sammanfattningsvis tycker vi att lärare på dessa skolor är i stort intresserade av att arbeta mer ämnesintegrerat. Kärnämneslärarna tycker att det vore önskvärt att karaktärsämneslärarna försöker finna sammankopplingar från karaktärsämnet till deras kärnämne så att eleverna ser sambandet mellan praktiken och teorin. Det enda möjliga hindret vi kommit fram till i vår undersökning är att skolledaren upplever att en del lärare ”inte vill arbeta ämnesintegrerat” då de har som förklaring att de inte skulle hinna uppnå kursmålen. Elevundersökningen visar att om eleverna ser samband mellan ämnena då blir det intressantare och roligare och de får bättre motivation. Vi ska i enlighet med resultaten vi fått fram verka för att våra skolor i framtiden kan utveckla sin verksamhet för att skapa mer posi-tiva, kreativa och stimulerande lärandemiljöer för eleverna med hjälp av mer ämnesintegre-ring.

Why have the major post 9/11 U.S. military interventions turned into quagmires? Despite huge power imbalances, major capacity-building efforts, and repeated tactical victories, the wars in Afghanistan (2001-present) and Iraq (2003-2011; 2014-present) turned bloody and intractable. The inability to design and manage war termination is an important part of the explanation why successful military operations to overthrow two third-world regimes failed to achieve favorable and durable outcomes. This thesis uses the abductive research method to develop three hypotheses to investigate these problems. Hypothesis #1: The failure to consider war termination heightens the risk of selecting a myopic strategy that has a low probability of success. Hypothesis #2: Cognitive obstacles, political frictions, and patron-client problems can impede the ability to recognize and abandon an ineffective or losing strategy. Hypothesis #3. When the United States tires of the war and decides to withdraw, bargaining asymmetries can undermine the prospects of a favorable outcome. These hypotheses are examined in the case studies and used to draw conclusions. Three main findings emerge. First, the United States government has no organized way to consider war termination and thus selected strategies that overestimated the prospects of decisive military victory. Second, the United States was slow to recognize and modify or abandon losing strategies. In both cases, U.S. officials believed their strategies were working even as the situations deteriorated. Third, once the United States decided to withdraw, bargaining asymmetries and disconnects in strategy undermined the prospects for a successful transition or negotiated outcome.

The Sweden Democrats are very clear in what way they want to be described as; as the only opposition party in the Swedish parliament. Is it possible that Swedish media helps in creating that description? This essay examines in what way Swedish media are describing the Sweden Democrats in condition to the establishment. By doing a discourse analysis, the essay will find out which discourse that is dominating about the Sweden Democrats in the two Swedish newspapers Aftonbladet and Expressen. The results shows that the dominate discourse is describing the party as an outsider in relationship to the establishment, but that in the same time a normalization is going on in times where the elections are far away. It also shows that it's only in the question about immigration that this 7-to-1 picture is described, which also is the party’s main question. In other political questions, media shows a picture of a party that try to widen their politics to a direction towards both of the blocks.

BakgrundI tidigare forskning har det framkommit att den svenska skolan och förskolan inte kommitsärskilt långt i sitt arbete med integration och utvecklande av interkulturelltförhållningssätt. Vidare visar tidigare forskning också att förskollärare i stor utsträckning använder sig av ett reciprokt eller kompensatoriskt arbetssätt. Här finns också belagt att förskolan som kulturell arena är en lämplig plattform för integration och för det förebyggande arbetet med att motverka dikotomier som exempelvis ”vi” och ”dom”.SyfteSyftet med studien är att undersöka ett pågående integrationsprojekt som syftar till att öka antalet möten mellan barn från segregerade områden i en kommundel i södra Sverige. Undersökningens huvudsakliga fokus kommer att beröra pedagogers, arbetsgivares och projektledares uppfattningar kring integration i förskolan samt vilka förväntningar som finns kring det pågående projektet.MetodFör att inhämta analyserbart material till studien har verktyget selfreport används.Selfreport innebär att respondenterna ombeds svara på frågor i löpande text.Respondenterna består av tre förskollärare, två arbetsgivare och två projektledare.Resultatet har sedan analyserats kvalitativt.ResultatResultaten visar att de tillfrågade pedagogerna, arbetsgivarna och projektledarna innehar liknande uppfattningar kring vad begreppet integration står för och de uttrycker att de tror att ökad integration leder till ökade möjligheter till lika villkor i samhället. Förskolan ses som en lämplig arena för integration och arbetet med integration ses som viktigt. Dock saknas kunskap, resurser och tid. Det framkommer också att en större tydlighet och ett större engagemang från arbetsgivarna kring vad som ska prioriteras i den pedagogiska verksamheten kopplat till det pågående integrationsprojektet efterfrågas av pedagogerna.

Abstract:

Superhero film is currently a popular form of entertainment, which during recent years has become political in its content. While research has previously shown that the superhero narrative carries messages of ideology and social issues, little is known of how the film genre communicates regarding leadership. Through examining the narratives in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, this study aims to explore how leadership is constructed in relation to democracy in a democratic context by using the United States as an example. The study utilises theorisations of democracy as well as representation theory, supplemented by three concepts borrowed from the leadership theory trait theory. The narrative analysis and the narrative plot points are used as method with a model of analysis to retrieve the empirical evidence. The study’s results show that the villain, while having a societal motivation which can be considered democratic, mostly represented nondemocratic traits. The superheroes mostly show democratic leadership, but they are not able to solve the conflict with the villain democratically. This suggests that the leadership constructed in a democratic context still contains some limitations, which could be connected to how nondemocratic actions are justified in some situations even in the democratic context.

Bakgrund: Under 1990-talet har företag outsourcat allt fler funktioner för att kunna koncentrera sig på sin kärnkompetens och därigenom öka sin konkurrenskraft. Även om nackdelarna med detta diskuteras, har dock argumenten för outsourcing tydligt dominerat debatten kring huruvida företag bör lägga ut aktiviteter på en tredje part eller inte. Det är först under senare år som röster har höjts för att outsourcing inte alltid är att likställa med vägen till framgång. Att debatten kring kärnkompetens och outsourcing så starkt fokuserat på fördelarna med att lägga ut aktiviteter på en tredje part innebär dock att denna debatt har varit och fortfarande är relativt ensidig.

Syfte: Uppsatsens syfte är att, med utgångspunkt från ett fysiskt distributionsperspektiv, utveckla en mer nyanserad bild av debatten kring kärnkompetens och outsourcing med avseende på skapandet av konkurrensfördelar.

Genomförande: Studien baseras på kvalitativ information inhämtad genom åtta intervjuer på fyra olika företag. Gemensam nämnare för dessa företag är att de har valt att inte outsourca hela eller delar av sin fysiska distribution även om denna inte är en del av deras egentliga kärnkompetens.

Resultat: De mest framträdande argumenten hos de studerade företagen mot att outsourca hela eller delar av den fysiska distributionen är negativ påverkan på kundrelationen och servicen. Vidare kan valet att inte outsourca skapa konkurrensfördelar ur såväl ett service- som kostnadsperspektiv. Den fysiska distributionen betraktas således som en källa till konkurrensfördelar trots att den inte är en del av den egentliga kärnkompetensen. Då vår studie även visar att kärnkompetensen inte räcker för att skapa värde för kunden anser vi att man vid ett outsourcingbeslut bör koncentrera sig på vad som skapar konkurrensfördelar, oavsett om detta är en del av den egentliga kärnkompetensen eller inte.

Uppsatsens syfte är att undersöka svensk EU-journalistik diskursivt. Detta genomförs genom en kritisk diskursanalys enligt Norman Faircloughs tredimensionella modell, av totalt 10 artiklar från svenskt tryckt press. Frågorna som uppsatsen söker svar på är vilka diskursiva element som är tongivande, samt vilken bild av EU detta genererar i den svenska EU-journalistiken. Uppsatsen bygger på ett teoretiskt ramverk bestående av nyhetsvärderingsteori och diskursteori. Resultatet av analysen visar att EU ofta beskrivs med ett förenklat och förenklande språk, i termer av EU som en enhet. I de flesta av de analyserade artiklarna förenklas EU:s institutionella system, där varken produktions- eller professionsprocesser i det journalistiska arbetet erbjuder en vidare förståelse eller kunskap om EU som institution. Resultatet visar att de journalistiska valen – det upprepande språkbruket, slentrianen och det organisatoriska trycket – har en ideologisk förankring. Dessa ger en bild av EU som en enhet, en röst, en överstatlig kraftfull byråkratisk aktör som samtidigt leder till problematik i att föra in EU-journalistiken i en nationell kontext.

Det opraktiska är det enda praktiska i längden syftar till att ge en bild av vad och hur lärare tänker kring lärande i allmänhet och sitt eget lärande i synnerhet. Utgångspunkten för undersökningen var en uppdragsutbildning i form av en 10-poängskurs, i vilken 134 lärare deltagit. Med hjälp av en enkät, som besvarades av 123 av dessa och sju samtal i lika många pargrupper, skapades ett material, som här presenteras som en tematisk berättelse. Lärarna utgår från sin vardag och sin undervisning och exemplifierar sina tankar om lärande och sina pedagogiska credon med utförliga exempel eller berättelser. De ser att de finns i en lärande organisation, i vilket arbetslaget utgör både möjligheter och hinder. De ser också att de själva kan välja att vara förändringsagenter eller bromsklossar och hittar ofta förklaringar till det förra i en över tid förvärvad erfarenhet och därmed säkerhet och till det senare i sina tidiga skolerfarenheter och i sin utbildning. De betonar det individuella ansvaret för att förkovra sig men förkastar storskaliga satsningar och efterlyser i stället tid och möjligheter till pedagogiska samtal och fortbildning som går över tid. I den ovannämnda genomgångna kursen är det framför allt skrivandet kopplat till samtal och litteraturstudier, som satt djupa spår.

Martin Scorsese expressed dissatisfaction stating that superhero movies lacks uniqueness and emotional and psychological depth. In his opinion, these movies depict spectacle rather than character. Scorsese is not alone in his view - this has been a general opinion among film critics for decades. Justin Wyatt examines the recipe for commercial success in his book High concept: Movies and marketing in Hollywood from 1994. Film theorist Kristin Thompson however, denounces the idea that High Concept or post-classicism changes structures in narrative. This thesis examines visual style and intertextuality in three films released in 2019: Avengers: Endgame, Hellboy and Joker. Are there similarities and/or differences in relation to Wyatt’s theories? All three movies use style and intertextuality to tell their stories and they all have excess scenes to please the audience visually. However, they still use classic Hollywood narrative with three acts and cause-and-effect storylines.

Abstract:

Årligen sker över 1,5 miljoner operationer i Sverige och idag väntar många på operationen som ska genomföras. Inom vården är väntan inför ett kirurgiskt ingrepp något många patienter får uppleva och kölistan för operationer kan vara lång. Erfarenheterna av väntan på ett kirurgiskt ingrepp och strategierna för att hantera väntan skiljer sig mellan individer. Litteraturstudiens syfte var att beskriva patienters erfarenheter av väntan på kirurgiskt ingrepp som resulterade i nio kvalitativa vetenskapliga artiklar. Resultatet påvisar att patienters erfarenheter av väntetiden och vänteprocessen inför kirurgiskt ingrepp genererade både positiva och negativa känslor. Artiklarnas underkategorier skapade huvudkategorierna som var att leva i standby och känsla av hopp. De negativa känslorna som upplevdes var bland annat frustration och smärta. De positiva erfarenheterna av väntan var bland annat stöd och bättre hälsa. För att hantera väntan användes olika strategier där stöd var ett återkommande och viktigt begrepp. Patienterna letade efter stöd i form av information och närhet från både anhöriga och vårdpersonal. Mer forskning kring patienters erfarenheter av väntan inför kirurgiskt ingrepp är önskvärt där information och kommunikation spelar en central roll i omvårdnadsarbetet.
There are performed 1,5 million operations on a yearly basis in Sweden and still today are a lot of people waiting for their scheduled surgery. Waiting for surgery is something many patients will be experiencing and waitinglists for surgery can be long. The experience of waiting for surgery and strategies for manage the waiting time was different between the individuals. The aim of the study is to describe patients’ experience of waiting for surgery. The study was conducted by reviewing nine qualitative research articles. The results demonstrates patients' experience of waiting and the waiting process before surgery generated both positive and negative feelings. Articles subcategories created the main categories that were living in standby and sense of hope. Some of the negative feelings that were experienced were frustration and pain. The positive experience of waiting included support and health. To manage the wait, different stratergies were used and supporting was important. Patients were looking for support in terms of information from both families and healthcare professionals. Wait is a concept that with more research could provide a more clear picture of what waiting is and what it means for the patients who are in the middle of the waiting process for a surgical procedure.

Abstract:

Denna uppsats undersöker samers utrymme och framställning i svenska dagstidningar. Tidigare forskning visar hur nyhetsmedia innehar en växande makt i att påverka hur olika grupper i samhället uppfattas och behandlas. Bland annat exemplifierar den tidigare forskningen hur urfolk och minoriteter begränsas i sitt mediala utrymme och framställs på ett homogent och fördomsfullt sätt. I föreliggande studie undersöks vilket utrymme den samiska befolkningen får i svensk nyhetsrapportering, vad för typ av samerelaterade nyheter som uppmärksammas samt hur samerna framställs i rapporteringen. Metoden som har använts för att besvara frågeställningarna är en innehållsanalys med både kvalitativa och kvantitativa inslag, där tidningsartiklar från tre svenska dagstidningar har studerats under tidsperioden av ett år. Resultatet visar bland annat hur samerna får ett begränsat medialt utrymme och att när de väl uppmärksammas är det ofta ett stort fokus på kulturella nyheter, medan händelser som kan anses viktiga för den samiska befolkningen marginaliseras. Därefter har resultatet analyserats utifrån den postkoloniala teorin, och därmed kunde samband urskiljas mellan Sveriges historiska relation till den samiska befolkningen och medias framställning av dem.
This paper examines the Sami peoples representation in Swedish newspapers. Previous research show that news media holds a growing power in affecting how different groups are perceived and being treated in today’s society. It shows how indigenous people and minorities are limited in the news media and portrayed in a homogeneous and biased way. This study examines to which extent the Sami population is being seen in the Swedish news media, what kind of Sami related news that are being reported and, how the Sami people are being presented. The method used to answer the thesis questions is a content analysis with complementary qualitative and quantitative elements. Articles published in three Swedish newspapers during the period of one year have in this study been examined. The result indicates that Sami culture is given a lot of space in the reported news, while other important events and questions concerning the Sami people are less visible. The result is analyzed on the basis of postcolonial theory, and connection could thus be distinguished between Sweden's historical relationship with the Sami population and the media's presentation of the group.

Abstract:

Sett till samhället i helhet samt till hela branscher och sektorer är förändring konstant. Dessutom är ett känt problem att förändring kan skapa motstånd hos individer och grupper. Eftersom människan är grunden i alla organisationer innebär det att en av de stora utmaningarna i förändringsarbete är att få stöd från organisationen. Samtidigt har det inom beteendevetenskapen identifierats ett stort antal faktorer som influerar människors beteende. Syftet med denna kandidatuppsats är att identifiera och förklara vilka påverkbara faktorer som triggar konstruktivt beteende i förändringsarbete. Teorigrunden är forskning och litteratur inom beteendevetenskap och organisationsförändring vilket initialt har gett till följd att sex faktorer har valts ut. Utifrån den referensramen har en fallstudie av ett omfattande förändringsarbete i en stor statlig organisation genomförts med totalt fyra kvalitativa intervjuer med enhetschefer, samt en kvalitativ intervju med en extern specialistkonsult inom förändringsledning. Dessutom har en tidigare studie i form av en medarbetarundersökning använts med över 1,000 respondenter från 2013 och 2015. Fallföretaget är Xmentor Management AB med fokus på när deras kund Trafikverket införde Nationell och Regional Operativ Ledning. Slutsatserna visar att de sex faktorer som har identifierats i litteraturstudien har möjlighet att trigga konstruktivt beteende i förändringsarbete. Dessutom är tre av faktorerna möjliga att påverka i hög grad. Uppsatsens tre viktigaste rekommendationer är att maximera belöningar på individnivå, att skapa effektiv kommunikation som i god tid och med upprepning kommunicerar till alla i organisationen, samt att erbjuda möjlighet till medskapande för de anställda.
In terms of society as a whole and in industries and whole sectors; change is constant. Additionally, a known problem is that change may create resistance among individuals and groups. Since people are the foundation of all organisations it means that one of the major challenges of change management is to get supportive behaviour from the organisation. At the same time behavioural sciences has identified numerous factors that influence people's behaviour. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to identify and explain factors that are possible to influence and which triggers constructive behaviour in change processes. The theory foundation consists of research and literature in behavioural sciences and change management which initially resulted in six selected factors. Based on that frame of reference a case study of an extensive change process has been conducted with a total of four interviews with heads of units, as well as one interview with an external consultant in change management. In addition, employee surveys with data from more than 1,000 respondents from 2011, 2013 and 2015 has been used. The case company is Xmentor Management AB with focus on when their customer Trafikverket, the Transport Administration of Sweden, created National and Regional Operational Management. The findings show that the six selected factors are able to trigger constructive behaviour in change processes. Three of the factors are also possible to influence to a great extent. The three main conclusions are to maximize rewards on an individual level, to create effective communication to everyone in the organization, as well as to offer the possibility of co-creation.

The right kind of democracy – an ideology analysis of school literatures description of the term democracy.

Democracy is today a word and a concept that in many ways is taken for granted and almost never is reflected on. The concept democracy is also considered as an essential issue in the swedish school system, both regarding the way the education should be managed and also as a part of the students democratic schooling – all according to the comprehensive document Läroplanen för de frivilliga skolformerna (Lpf94).

The main purpose of this paper is to investigate how swedish literature in political and social science talks about and looks upon democracy – what do the books say it means?

The materials we have chosen for this report are the books Zigma and Forum. As metod we are using a textual ideology analysis in which we have created three dimensions – meaning/associations, criticism of democracy, and demos/citizenship. The dimensions are designed to fit our critical point of wiew regarding how democracy is looked upon in school literature today.

Our results have shown that both books gives the same meaning and significance to the word, that no one of the books lifts forth any serious criticism of democracy and that no one of the books is trying to discuss nor question the word demos/citizenship.
