Full textIn the last years, the business market has grown fastly due to social, economic and public health factors, as well as access to technology and increasingly strong globalization, especially in the SME and MSME sector. This is a phenomenon that has attracted the attention of specialists; for this reason, the purpose of this paper is to describe the financing alternatives for SMEs. To this end, the research has been organized into six sections. First, the evolution of SMEs at the national and foreign level is developed. Next, the needs and characteristics of SME financing will be reviewed. In the following chapter, the different forms of traditional financing and alternative financing will be analyzed, as well as the types of financing that exist in each of them. Within traditional financing, bank loans, factoring and financial leasing stand out; in alternative financing, digital or fintech platforms are used where seed capital, crowdfunding and venture capital can be accessed. After that, the main restrictions that arise in the process in which SMEs seek financing will be specified. Finally, the regulation that is given to these entities and how it benefits the development of SMEs will be specified. The main conclusion reached by this research is that there is no single financing modality that SMEs can currently access, and these have limitations that prevent them from contributing adequately to the strengthening of the sector.

Full textO fenómeno das plataformas é central para o paradigma socioeconómico atual. Em poucas décadas, o modelo de negócio das plataformas conseguiu alterar fundamentalmente múltiplas indústrias. É um tópico que, embora extensivamente estudado pelos investigadores, ainda produz descobertas. O presente estudo pretende contribuir para esse esforço, explorando o papel das parcerias na internacionalização das plataformas digitais, dos pontos de vista da Gestão Estratégica e de Gestão de Negócios Internacionais. A questão de investigação sobrejacente a este estudo é formulada com base numa revisão de literatura sobre o modelo de negócio das empresas plataforma e o seu processo de internacionalização: Como é que os ecossistemas de plataforma locais são desenvolvidos e estabelecidos? Para responder a esta questão, é desenvolvido um caso de estudo explanatório com base em dois casos altamente contrastantes: a Microsoft Portugal e a Too Good To Go Portugal. Este trabalho descobre que as parcerias podem desenvolver ecossistemas de plataforma e criar oportunidades de negócio em mercados estrangeiros. As plataformas capacitam os seus parceiros com ferramentas e conhecimento por forma a desenvolver e enriquecer ecossistemas. O termo parceiro inclui múltiplas empresas a desempenhar diversos papéis, organizadas de forma hierárquica. As plataformas alavancam parcerias locais e, por vezes, internacionais, aumentando a competitividade local. Ainda assim, parcerias internacionais podem não se traduzir diretamente em parcerias locais. Finalmente, fatores como a credibilidade da empresa plataforma no mercado e o seu alinhamento estratégico com o contexto ético, social e ambiental, podem ter uma influência positiva na sua difusão em mercados e ecossistemas no estrangeiro.
The platform phenomena is central to the contemporary socio-economic paradigm. In a few decades, the platform business model has managed to disrupt and fundamentally change multiple industries. Although this topic is being thoroughly studied by contemporary academia, it still yields discoveries. This research aims to contribute to that effort by exploring the role of partnerships in the internationalization of digital platforms, from the points of view of Strategic Management and International Business. It draws from a literature review on the platform business model and the internationalization process of platform firms to formulate an overarching research question: How are local platform ecosystems established and developed? To answer this question an explanatory case-study based on two highly contrasting cases: Microsoft Portugal and Too Good To Go Portugal is developed. This work finds that partnerships can develop platform ecosystems and create business opportunities in foreign markets. Platform firms invest and empower partners with tools and knowledge. Partner is a catch-all term that includes multiple firms playing diverse roles, organized in hierarchical fashion. Platforms can leverage on local and, sometimes, international partnerships to boost local competitiveness. Yet, international partnerships may not translate directly into local partnerships. Finally, factors such as the market credibility of the platform firm and its strategic attunement to the social, environmental, and ethical context may have a positive influence on platform diffusion in foreign user networks and ecosystems.

Full textSocial media platforms have enabled individuals to easily produce, share and distribute their own content over the Intenet – interacting with other individuals and firms. Currently, anyone may have his own newspaper (blog), radio (podcast) or TV channel (YouTube) and build an audience. Social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter, allow people to spread the word of mouth even further. In this new social environment, consumers became active producers - influencing their peers, criticizing bad products/services, codeveloping their own solutions, etc. Eventually, firms found out that they must learn how to use social media to become part of the conversation, access external knowledge and try to cocreate some value. But how could firm’s usage of social media platforms to co-create with consumers influence its business processes? In order to answer to that question, this study used two qualitative interpretive research methods – netnography and grounded theory – to explore public data available on social media platforms. The empirical research investigated a social media ecosystem of the air travel industry. As results, this study presents: a set of interrelated categories that emerged from empirical data; field descriptions; and the theoretical hypothesis regarding the co-creation process in air travel industry and its implications. Results show that three types of co-creation using social media platforms (online experiences cocreation, brand real-time co-creation and products/services knowledge co-creation) positively influence customers’ capabilities/knowledge integration to firms’ business processes (such as customers relationship, support, public relations, advertising, products/services development) - while the lack of those types of co-creation may negatively influence those business processes effectivity.

Full textDo you know that our country ranks first in the entrepreneurial spirit in Latin America and is fifth in the world? Entrepreneurship in Peru is today one of the main growth engines of our economy, which allows the creation of micro, small and medium-sized companies. Precisely these companies contribute 30% of GDP and 60% of PEA. However, around 7.5% of these businesses close annually due to various factors, one of the most relevant being the financial factor such as the lack of liquidity that is directly related to inadequate financial management. Our business model searchs to contribute to the economic development of these companies with a digital financial advisory service, which is a disruptive, innovative and exponential proposal that will find to reach 15.5% of these companies in Metropolitan Lima in its first eighteen months. With this percentage of participation it will be preventing at least 65 thousand companies from closing due to lack of adequate financial management during the year, which can translate into preventing at least the unemployment rate from growing by 0.40% and the GDP not reaching to drop by 1.03%. Lastly, due to the impact that this proposal will have on the entrepreneur segment, even more so due to the current context of the country's economic recovery, it will be estimating a return of 39.5% on investment in eighteen months, being the fifth month in which will generate positive profits.
