Abstract:
This article presents adaptation and semantic development of English loan words registred in job advertisments in Süddeutsche Zeitung. The semantic adaptation depends not only on transfer of English meanings into German. In the process of borrowing there are different changes depending on elimination of multiple meanings of polysemous words, expansion and narrowing of meanings, change of emotional tinge and introduction of metaphorical meaning. Sometimes in German originates additional sense, not present in English. It may happen, that from one meaning of a word are chosen only some elements, consequently borrowed meanings have only a loose connection with the original sense. Thanks to good documentation of history of English loan words it can be stated, that many contemporarily used English words have been a part of German lexicon for a long time .

Abstract:
The article deals with the political cartoon as a creolized text consisting of two parts (verbal and visual) and identifies the potential of verbal and visual means to express text categories in messages under study. The author comes to a conclusion that political cartoons are characterized with the same text categories as a homogeneous verbal text. The text categories of a political cartoon are expressed with verbal and visual means organized in personal, local, temporal and modal structures of the message. Analysis of Walter Hanel's cartoons proves the following: (1) the cartoonist expresses his own opinion using constituents of the personal structure; (2) narration perspective of the message causes its emotional tinge and subjective evaluation (the artist uses verbal means, which have certain connotations or develop ones in connection with the picture, and advantages of visual means, constituents of the modal structure); (3) constituents of the local structure function as direct and indirect local references, indicate place of action and create space of a cartoon; (4) using advantages of both codes and appealing to addressee's background knowledge, the cartoonist can specify time actual for the message, introduce traces of the past into the present and look into the future. The author of the article inclines to the opinion that verbal and visual means are equal in their contribution to the message in the form of a political cartoon

Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to study and systematize formal -grammatical features of etiquette greetings and to implement their syntactic typology. The relevance of the work is determined by the importance of the subject of study and lack of clear etiquette greetings’ syntactic typology in modern Ukrainian linguistics. The scientific novelty of the study is the improvement of syntactic structural schemes typology of etiquette greetings. Research methods: the historical, logical, structural, cognitive, scientific methods were used in the work. Conclusions. The implemented syntactic typology of etiquette greetings confirms the diversity of their structure. The most productive forms of their implementation are nominative one-member sentences and verbal (one member as well as two-member) ones. According to the semantics and communicative purpose, we can identify two types of nominal greetings structures: nominative narrative (declarative) sentences) and nominative imperative-optative ones. Nominative imperative – optative greetings are full of emotional content. Nominative and imperative – optative meanings are combined in their semantics e.g. “Myr domu Vashomy!” (Peace to your house!), “Khl’ib ta sil’!” (Bread and salt!). In the fixed one-member verbal sentences the main member is performed by a certain conjugation e.g. “Vinshuiu!” (Congratulations!)", “Biu cholom” (I bow to you), “Bozhe pomozhy” (God, help (us)). Fixed two-member etiquette greetings have different stylistic tinge of “politeness”, so they are not used in all the language genres. They are mainly used in informal and belletristic language styles.

Abstract:
Tritones sounding over subdominant harmony, either as suspensions, accented passing tones, or incomplete neighbors, constitute a class of sonorities regularly heard in film and television music. I collectively refer to these phenomena as “subdominant tritones” (SdTT), and theorize a link between the SdTT and emotions it engenders. The article presents close visual/musical analysis of selected SdTT-tinged passages in feature films that animate various heightened emotional states, including longing, nostalgia, relief, and melancholy. Abstract:
The review focuses on the analysis of PawełTański’s book Głosy i performanse tekstów. Literatura – piosenki – ciało [Voices and Performances of Texts: Literature – Songs – Body]. Contrary to the title, textual analysis overwhelmingly prevails over performance studies in Tański’s work which also abstains from research into this field. The author carries out a sketchy review of cultural texts – mainly poetry and songs. In my article I examine Tański’s study, with particular attention to his favourite motifs, i.e. self-referentiality, love for poetry and counter-culture. As the author often reduces scientific description to emotional interpretation and expresses personal preferences in an exaggeratedly emotional form, the reader receives a cumulative expression of love for literature in the form of a report from the inside. This is also evidenced by the number of literary references and extensive citations. In my review, I critically follow this affective delight, and recognise Tański’s analyses to not only be personally tinged but also to draw from performative writing.

Abstract:
Russian Doll is a show about two people who are “dying all the time” in every sense of the phrase. As co-protagonists Nadia Vulvokov (Natasha Lyonne) and Alan Zaveri (Charlie Barnett) each fight grueling emotional battles, they also literally die, expiring and respawning over and over again like characters in a videogame. When Nadia and Alan meet and discover that they're dying at the same time, they become uneasy partners in trying to game the loop that dominates their lives—or rather their deaths. In foregrounding the interracial, (mostly) platonic, queer-tinged connection that results from entrapping two survivors of distinct historical and psychological traumas in a recursive loop, Russian Doll evokes what José Muñoz called “brown feeling”—an affectively and politically depressive position that holds a transformative potential. It is, in fact, Russian Doll's enactment of the depressive position that makes the show so uplifting despite its devastating subject matter.

Abstract:
My interest in this paper is to show that currently one of the most controversial aspects in psychoanalytic theory - metapsychology - is influenced by positivistic thought. Whereas the importance of relationships and affects, central pillars of current psychoanalysis, are reminiscent of Brentano's ideas. To do this I have analysed the correspondence between Freud as a young man and his friend Silberstein, written from 1871 to 1881, that is, during his university years. In these letters one can observe the enormous interest shown by Freud in the philosophy of his teacher Brentano. Brentano's thesis is: what characterizes psychic phenomena is intention, inferring that there is always a relation which links the subject to the object, and that this relation is always emotionally tinged.

Abstract:
Lack of physical activity is often associated with electronic media use. However, augmented reality exergames require player movement, making them a potential health application (app). In the exergame Pokémon GO, characters were embedded into the external environment through a live camera feed and viewed through a player’s smartphone screen. Online surveys from adults ( N = 230) who played the Pokémon GO app reported about their childhood emotionally tinged, parasocial relationships with a favorite Pokémon character, motivations to play Pokémon GO, and frequency of Pokémon GO play. Those who had stronger childhood parasocial relationships with a Pokémon character reported playing the Pokémon GO app for nostalgic reasons but reported less frequent app play. Older participants were motivated to play Pokémon GO to increase their physical activity levels and reported more frequent app play. The findings suggest that the age and motivations of players are important considerations for exergame design.

Abstract:
The theory of affections has seen a renewed conceptual interest both in the role played in the formulation of power structures in modernity, which remains important in understanding the present form of Nation State, and in the possibility to formulate a new interpretation of the social relationship useful to surpass the classical psychological lectures. We aim here to reconsider an affect which in contemporary language is tinged with theological nuances: the affect of fides. We can translate the word using the modern terms of trust and belief, but also loyalty. The choice of this particular affect is due to the centrality that, in our view, it occupies in modern contract theories, and to its ability to reflect, with its multiple conceptual stratification, different perspectives and political proposals. In order to clarify the terms of this discussion, we will henceforth use the term fides, alongside with different meanings which overlap within it, to illustrate two different and divergent proposals that have emerged during the seventeenth century. We consider, in particular, the thought of Spinoza opposed to the social contract theories by Hobbes in order to understand the modern theoretical break with previous political concepts; in particular, we will briefly analyze the different conceptions of Societas civilis that emerge from this division. The background of these considerations is the analysis of modern philosophy‘s use of the theory of affections. The XVII century witnessed the rise of social contract theory. It draws on the concept of the individual, conceived as isolated from others, located in the original state of nature (pre-social), unable to develop its rational part. It is therefore a victim of its own passions, but even more so those of others. The dominant sentiments emerging in Hobbes‘ Leviathan are therefore those of awe and fear. They derive from the constant uncertainty of one‘s power and strength; the uncertainty of being able to maintain everyone‘s domination over others and thus to suffer in turn the others‘ power. From the necessity to control these emotions in a rational way emerges the contractual proposal to transfer the power to an authority (singular or plural) whom all subjects must obey. Philosophical movements such as neostoicism and philosophical works such as Les passions de l‘ame by Descartes, testify in their „rationalist“ proposal the need to keep a constant control over the passions. They open the way for the famous dialectics of reason and passion, a central theme throughout the Enlightenment. This need to dominate the passions arouses from the complex Cartesian metaphysical theory and from its conception of the individual always split between body and soul, reason and instinct. These two models are the ones which have prevailed; this conception of individual and society and this approach to the passions still dominate common sense when we talk about human affections. The paper follows an itinerary across three authors of the modern age. At first we try to delineate the theory of affection by Descartes, and the birth of the dichotomy of body and soul through the focus of two of the most important works by Descartes: Méditations métaphysiques and Traité sur les passions de l‘âme. Then, by analyzing the works of Hobbes (Leviathan), and Spinoza (Ethic and Political treatise) we will describe in which terms the subject carrying his affective baggage interacts in a political space.

Abstract:
The master's dissertation consists of an introduction, three chapters, conclusions to each chapter, general conclusions, and a list of references, that includes 63 points. The paper amounts to 107 pages. The subject of study of many areas of linguistics today is the text as a structural and semantic whole. It is the primary means of communication. The study of text coherence became relevant in text linguistics in the late 1960s. The cohesiveness of the text is achieved through a number of structural and lexical-semantic means, which are in each text in a variety of combinations, among which the main is repetition. The topicality is due to the fact that in recent decades in the science has accumulated enough capacious material in the field of repetition research, which needs reflection and some generalization. It should be noted, however, that insufficient attention has been paid to the study of the peculiarities of the functioning of lexical repetitions in artistic discourse. Although a great deal of work has been written on lexical repetitions, it is worth noting that the question of functional specificity and understanding of repetition as a stylistic reception or as an element of a writer's style within fiction is insufficiently analyzed. The object of the study is lexical repetition in modern German. The subject is the features of the functioning of lexical repetitions in modern German based on the artistic discourse of German-speaking writers. The aim of the research is to study the structural and semantic features of the discursive functioning of lexical repetitions in modern German. Achieving this goal involves the solution of the following tasks: 1) become familiar with the concept of "repetition"; 2) to consider typological varieties of repetition in modern German; 3) describe the lexical repetition and its features; 4) characterize artistic discourse; 5) to investigate the functioning of lexical repetitions in Daniel Kellmann's novel “Die Vermessung der Welt”; 6) identify lexical repetitions in Daniel Guttauer's novel “Gut gegen Nordwind”; 7) analyze the structural features of lexical repetitions in Akif Pirinchi's novel “Der eine ist stumm, der andere ein Blinder”; 8) to work out the semantic features of lexical repetition in Daniel Kelmann's novel; 9) consider lexical repetitions in Daniel Guttauer's novel “Gut gegen Nordwind”; 10) to carry out research on the semantic aspect of the study of lexical repetitions in Akef Pirinchi's novel “Der eineist stumm, der andere ein Blinder”. The originality of the research is that it was first analyzed the features of the functioning of lexical repetition on the basis of a comparison of novels of three authors, novels by two German writers Daniel Kellmann "Die Vermessung der Welt" and Akif Pirinchi "Der eine ist stumm, der andere ein Blinder" as well as the novel by Austrian writer Daniel Guttauer “Gut gegen Nordwind”.The practical valueof the research lies in the possibility of using research materials by students of higher education institutions, linguistic departments in preparation for seminars, conferences, and the analysis of the structural-semantic features of the functioning of lexical repetitions in the artistic discourse of German-speaking authors may be a useful example in the subsequent study of lexical studies in lexical studies. and other discourses. The research material amounts to 156 passages that show the use of lexical repetitions, the final number of which reaches 200 units selected by continuous sampling from 3 German-language novels, including Daniel Kellmann's “Die Vermessung der Welt”, Daniel Guttauer's “Gut gegen Nordwind” and Aqifa Pirinchi's “Der eine ist stumm, der andere ein Blinder“.Research methods. The research methodology is predetermined by the purpose and tasks of the work and is based on the principles of complex application of common scientific methods: analysis and synthesis - for the selection of relevant theoretical material; inductive-deductive method - for observing, describing and classifying lexical repetitions, quantitative method - for establishing repetitiveness, correlation; methods of classification and systematization, method of comparative analysis and method of generalization of scientific and literary sources. Testing the results of the research and publications. The results of the dissertation research are presented in the article "Functions of lexical repetition in modern German prose" in the scientific journal of the International Humanities University (Issue 39/2019, vol. 2) [29], which is notated in such international scientific metric database as Index Copernicus International (Poland).

This paper explores the researcher's own personal involvement in the 2015 performance of Chen Jing-ting’s work, “Psyche’s Test”. The production is composed of four different styles of modern dance, which will be analyzed works for the interpretation of the role analysis. The researcher uses participant observation, individual in-depth interviews and provides an analysis of the findings to better understand how the performers interpret the emotional content of the work, and how this emotion is ultimately expressed. The research reviews the author’s own physical response and internal emotional release from the perspective of other participants. Additionally, the process of writing this paper has led the author to achieve deeper reflection and understanding of the emotional experience which occurred during the production and performance of this work. It is my hope that this essay will inspire other students of dance to find the self-confidence and inspiration to explore their own ideas and emotions, and to express themselves through the artistic medium of dance.

Abstract:
Purpose: The chapter examines the extent and level of the pandemic impact on sport, video game, and tourism industry by analyzing the emotional narration of articles related to Covid-19 effects on these industries so as to assess and predict the situation of industries during the pandemic and in the following years, but also to explain sources of positive sentiment for a given industry. Design/methodology/approach: The study provides a sentiment analysis of the global disclosure of the Covid-19 pandemic in the press, online articles, and social media (Twitter) with the use of three independent R packages. The final sample consisted of 142 articles; the oldest was published on January 23, 2020, whereas the newest one on October 14, 2020. Findings: Sentiment analysis revealed that the emotional tinge of the articles is much more positive for video games and soccer than in the case of tourism. In the case of video games and soccer, positive emotions such as “trust” or “anticipation” prevailed over much more common emotions of “fear” and “sadness” used about tourism. The impact of the pandemic was similar for video games and soccer, which was a mixture of negative and positive events. Research limitations/implications: Further research should use other resources such as the mass media or other data sources in addition to social media information and include a long-term analysis divided into stages of the pandemic as reactions and moods have been changing over time. Moreover, the factors influencing the perception of situations in different sectors of the economy should be identified in future research. Practical implications: The use of sentiment analysis shows that such quantification may be performed for new social phenomena before any hard (e.g., financial) data are available. Social implications: An approximation was obtained for quantifying the societal “general feeling” with regards to specific sectors affected by the pandemic. Originality and value: The chapter compares the response to the pandemic crisis of different sectors that reveal the sentiment contributing to the growth or difficulties of a given industry. The use of sentiment analysis enabled us to assess and predict the situation of industries during the pandemic before the hard and comprehensive data will occur.

Abstract:
This chapter provides the context for understanding children’s experiences by describing their initial emotional responses on finding out their parents were separating. Children’s age at the time of separation influenced their awareness and ability to understand what was happening in their family, to make sense of events, therefore responses are reported according to their age at the time their parents’ separation. The following groupings are used: early years (0-4 years), middle childhood (5-8 years), late childhood (9-12 years), teenage years (13-16 years) and late teenage years (17-20 years). Children described a range of emotions including feeling sad, shocked, upset, confused sometimes angry and frustrated. Emotional responses were often tinged with anxiety about what would happen next particularly among those in late childhood or when facing transitions in their own lives such as studying for GCSEs or starting university.

Abstract:
This chapter considers Joseph Horovitz’s Lady Macbeth scena. This short, through-composed dramatic scena is extracted and compiled from different scenes of Shakespeare's play. It presents a vivid, multifaceted portrait of Lady Macbeth, showing her progression from lofty pride and ruthless ambition to guilt-ridden madness. The piece is meticulously crafted and the music’s flexible, chromatic tonality is cohesive and highly accessible. A faint tinge of Scottishness can be detected in the choice of rhythmic gestures. Extremes of range are eschewed: most of the work lies in middle register, avoiding any jarringly exaggerated chest-voice sounds. Accordingly, high notes are used sparingly. The palette of conflicting moods and emotions is conjured with consummate skill and rhythmic vitality. Rapid babblings are interspersed with bursts of outraged scorn and frustrated passion.

Jaume, Lucien. "The Moralist and the Question of l’Honnête." In Tocqueville, translated by Arthur Goldhammer. Princeton University Press, 2013. http://dx.doi.org/10.23943/princeton/9780691152042.003.0009.

Abstract:
This chapter argues that Tocqueville was a moralist in the same sense that he was a political thinker: he imagines not only an adversary whom he must defeat but also an interlocutor whom he must convince. The paradox is that his methods as a moralist were the opposite of his methods as a sociologist. Tocqueville the moralist wanted schools to teach the existence of God and the immortality of the soul, which gave a surprising tinge to his “liberalism.” Like Rousseau, but also like Robespierre, he believed that a civic religion was necessary and that those who refused to accept it were enemies. By adopting the position of the public moralist, Tocqueville was able to strike a compromise between his negative emotions (horror of mediocrity, chronic depression and anxiety) and his reasons for hope (democracy was accomplishing miracles and would accomplish more in the future).

Bundock, Michael. "The Slave and the Lawyers: Francis Barber, James Boswell and John Hawkins." In Britain's Black Past, 27–44. Liverpool University Press, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.3828/liverpool/9781789621600.003.0003.

Abstract:
This chapter, written by Michael Bundock, describes competing portrayals of Francis Barber, the Jamaican manservant and friend of writer Samuel Johnson who worked in his household for the better part of three decades and became his heir. The incompatible depictions are found in separate biographies of Johnson written by lawyers John Hawkins and James Boswell as well as in other writings and letters. Hawkins’ biography, published first, is openly hostile to Barber. His disdain for Barber’s interracial marriage and criticism of Johnson’s indulgent financial and emotional support of Barber is tinged with racism. Bundock supposes that Boswell’s own biography of Johnson was, in part, a response and rebuke to Hawkins’—especially so in his favourable characterization of Barber, his wife and their closeness with Johnson. Comparing these rival biographies, Bundock attempts to evaluate the authors’ motivations as well as their attitudes to race.

Fox, Raymond. "Musings about Teaching and Learning." In The Use of Self. Oxford University Press, 2011. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780190616144.003.0007.

Abstract:
This book underscores two deep-seated convictions about teaching. The first abandons the idea that learning simply amounts to filling students’ blank minds with missing supplies of theories, perspectives, statistics, and research reports. The second accepts the ideas that personal presence is the sine qua non of both professional practice and professional education. Learning necessarily involves action and interaction. You, your students, and the context produced by your exchange is crucial. The single most important catalyst in this matrix is you—your self. Your personhood affects this exchange in a most significant way. Flowing from this overarching conviction are yet other intermingled building blocks of professional education. Among these are that professional education needs to be learner-focused, not content-centered; it needs to be active, collaborative, emotionally tinged, and tailored to students’ styles. In addition, professional education rests upon certain fundamental beliefs: learning accrues from facilitation; content and its conveyance should mesh; knowledge mastery is but one aspect of learning; thinking and feeling are inseparable; and effective teaching emanates from questioning, responding, and, most important of all, listening. The chief vehicle for advancing professional education is initiating and sustaining a solid and positive relationship. Within a relational milieu, students feel free to examine assumptions, test values, share mistakes, experiment with alternative theories, try out new behaviors, and ultimately make strides toward professional development as self-aware, disciplined practitioners. Teaching involves more than delivery. It stimulates discovery, elicits wonder. Your role mandates your understanding of how students learn and work, and your ability to enable them to draw upon your wisdom and talent as well as the resources you make available. It requires your finding out what they need to know and generating ways to convey it. Your challenge is to make your art so powerful that it appeals at the same time to the intellectual as well as to the emotional lives of students in a visceral way.
