Abstract:
Background: With increasing global rates of overweight, obesity and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) along with undernutrition and micronutrient deficiencies, the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) is no exception. This review focuses on specific nutrition parameters among under five years children, namely ever breastfed, exclusive breastfeeding, mixed milk feeding, continued breastfeeding, bottle feeding, introduction of solid, semi-solid, or soft foods and malnutrition. Methodology: PubMed, Google Scholar, United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) databases, World Health Organization (WHO) databases, the World Bank databases and the Global Nutrition Report databases were explored between 10 January and 6 June 2022, to review the nutrition situation among under five years children in the EMR. Results: The regional average prevalence of ever breastfed, exclusive breastfeeding, mixed milk feeding, continued breastfeeding, bottle feeding, introduction of solid, semi-solid, or soft foods was estimated at 84.3%, 30.9%, 42.9%, 41.5%, 32.1% and 69.3%, respectively. Iran, Iraq, Libya and Palestine have seen a decline over time in the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding. Lebanon, Egypt, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia reported early introduction of infant formula. Moreover, Lebanon, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates were seen to introduce food early to the child, at between 4–6 months of age. The estimated weighted regional averages for stunting, wasting and underweight were 20.3%, 8.9% and 13.1%, respectively. Of concern is the increasing prevalence of stunting in Libya. As for overweight and obesity, the average prevalence was reported to be 8.9% and 3%, respectively. Lebanon, Libya, Kuwait and Palestine showed an increased trend throughout this time. Conclusions: In this review, the suboptimal infant and young child feeding patterns and the twofold incidence of malnutrition in the EMR are highlighted and we urge the prioritizing of measures to improve children’s nutrition.

Abstract:
This study aimed to identify the challenges facing the Palestinian economy in the face of political pressure and the repercussions of the Corona pandemic, and to achieve the goal of the study, the researcher used the descriptive and analytical approach to describe the challenges facing the Palestinian economy. The researcher also used the quantitative approach to predict possible scenarios for the economic situation in Palestine, in addition to using statistical reports. The published data, and the researcher reached many results, most notably: that there is a negative impact of the Corona pandemic and political pressures on the Palestinian economy, as the Corona pandemic caused a decline in economic sectors as a result of the emergency that was declared in Palestine and the imposition of a comprehensive closure on it, where the highest rate of decline was the share of the sector. Construction also caused an increase in poor families to 18,800 families and an increase in the unemployment rate in Palestine to 29.6%. The study made it clear that we should work to address the challenges that affected the Palestinian economy, the most important of which are the clearance crisis and the Corona pandemic by looking for other sources to finance government expenditures and not rely in a way. Big on clearing funds, as well as working on restarting the group Economic sectors in order to compensate for the damage caused by the Corona pandemic

Abstract:
Abstract During the last year, the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, has issued more than seventy decrees-by-law, which are legislative tools that the Palestinian Basic Law allows the President to use only in cases of emergency. However, the President has never shown in any of those decrees-by-law that they were issued to face an emergency, which is an immense, imminent danger that may solely be stopped with a decree-by-law. This is a significant increase in the number of decrees-by-law that the President has issued between 2007, the year in which the coup d’état occurred in Palestine, and 2021, which amounts to thirty decrees-by-law per year. This increase might be the result of Abbas’s clique attempt to shape the legal framework of the Palestinian Authority for its own benefits, fearing that the old, ill, Palestinian President would pass away in the near future, leaving a huge vacuum behind, particularly with regards to who might be his successor, amongst all of the rivalling senior figures of the regime.

The article begins with a summary of the historical and social conditions of Jordan at the time, when Jordan was part of the Ottoman state. The article examines the foreign explorers in three sub-periods: From the end of the Crusader period in the aftermath of the Battle of Hittin in 1187 up to Napoleon’s military expedition to Egypt in 1798. From Napoleon’s military expedition in 1798 up to the establishment of the Western learned societies interested in the antiquities of Palestine, starting with the British Palestine Exploration Fund in 1865. From the establishment of the Palestine Exploration Fund in 1865 up to the establishment of the Emirate of Jordan in 1921. Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic has raised consciousness across the globe of how constitutions respond to crises. This article examines the issue of the Palestinian President declaring a state of emergency in Palestine on March 5, 2020, under Presidential Decree No. 1 of 2020, to confront the spread of the Coronavirus. However, the President continues to extend the thirty-day state of emergency ten times. In addition, the article discusses a crucial issue associated with the extent to which the extended constitution of emergency in Palestine lasts, as the Basic Law only allows him to declare the state of emergency for a one-time limit. The article aims to clarify the constitutionality of the extension of the state of emergency in Palestine, in addition to placing some legal alternatives to avoid the President’s breach of the Basic Law. To achieve the objectives of the article, socio-legal research using a qualitative approach and face-to-face interviews was adopted. Accordingly, findings show the inconsistency of the extension of the state of emergency with the Basic Law due to the suspension of the role of the Legislative Council in Palestine. The article emphasizes and recommends that the role of the Legislative Council shall be activated to oversee the presidential decrees extending a state of emergency issued by holding the legislative elections in Palestine.

Abstract:
Great Britain ruled modern-day Israel and Palestine from 1917 to 1948. The exploitation of prison labour became a source to fund its colonial government. This study explicates the economic and legal rationale for prison labour, the living and working conditions and discipline of convicts, and public debates and controversies surrounding political prisoners in Mandatory Palestine. With specific references to forced labour in the colonised world, it evaluates the experience of Mandatory Palestine from a transnational perspective and makes a connection between global colonialism and prison labour. Using a rich trove of official documents and newspaper articles as its primary sources, this article links the proliferation of the prison labour system with the introduction and consolidation of British colonialism in Palestine and argues that colonial ideology and practices coloured and justified the use of prison labour.

Abstract The American Christian Palestine Committee believed that Palestine, and not Europe or any other location, should memorialize the European Jewish victims of the Holocaust. Founded in 1946, the ACPC partnered with the Jewish National Fund to establish the Children’s Memorial Forest, a memorial to the more than 1 million Jewish children who perished in the Nazi genocide. Its fundraising campaign sought to plant saplings in the Ein Hashofet region, constituting an early form of Holocaust education among American Sunday school children. It solicited theologically liberal, or mainline, American Protestants’ participation in a land reclamation project aimed at advancing Jewish statehood.

Abstract:
The Covid-19 incident reminds us that having an emergency fund is a crucial allocation outcome for someone in the face of unexpected conditions. The fact is that from various surveys conducted, most Indonesians admit that they do not have adequate emergency funds. This research was conducted to see how financial literacy and spending behavior influence the ownership of emergency funds in young adults in Surabaya. Young adults were chosen in this study because, based on previous studies, in this age range, a person begins to move into a condition of being economically independent and should already be doing financial planning. Data were obtained through questionnaires and processed using logistic regression. The results of the study show that both financial literacy and spending behavior have a significant effect on emergency fund ownership among young adults in Surabaya. This research contributes to the personal finance literature by providing an overview of emergency fund ownership. For young adults, this research can provide insight into the meaning of financial literacy and spending behavior and how these variables can affect one's emergency fund.

Abstract:
In the light of the COVID-19 virus pandemic that has attacked the earth planet, all nations in the world are becoming suffered more and more from the increasing number of infected cases. The medical infrastructure in most countries aren’t fit to deal with such pandemic, hospitals in these countries are unable to accommodate a such number of the infected cases that have recently been recorded[1],[5]. This pandemic has put countries in a great predicament; they never expected to face a pandemic of this size [1], [5]. Palestine is one of these pandemic victims, COVID-19 virus has started spreading in Palestine on fifth March of 2020 [4]. Palestinian government and leadership have announced immediately by its Prime Minister Dr Mohammad Shtayyeh the case of emergency in Palestine to prevent this dangerous pandemic from spreading, by closing all schools and universities, crowding prevention, limiting motion and asking people strongly for home-stay [1], [2], [4]. With this step, Palestine has been recorded as one of the most quick-response countries of facing the COVID-19 pandemic in the world [4]. Although the emergency case is still very active in Palestine, the Palestine government and people are still very worry and afraid from the coming future, this is for two main reasons, the first is the inability of Palestine medical infrastructure to process the large numbers of infected cases, the second is the social-cultural system in Palestine that has strong relationships and traditions that promotes social communication in Palestine which may help the COVID-19 virus for more spreading. So, this study aims to help Palestinian government to be ready as possible to face this pandemic in the coming days, by designing a computerized model to predict the expected numbers of the infected cases that may be recorded in the coming days.

We examined the association between financial knowledge overconfidence and the perception of emergency fund needs using the 2016 Survey of Consumer Finances (SCF) dataset. Only 28% of respondents reported a perceived amount of emergency funds needed that would cover at least three months of estimated spending. We conducted an OLS regression analysis on the log of the ratio of perceived emergency fund needs to household monthly expenditure. Overconfident respondents perceived a ratio 21.4% lower than those who had objective and subjective financial knowledge above median levels. Overconfident respondents might be underestimating emergency fund needs, suggesting the importance of not only increasing objective financial knowledge but also making consumers aware of the limitations of their financial knowledge.

“Liberty of the individual is a thing of the past, or the future, in Palestine”, wrote Bernard Joseph, a distinguished member of Israel's “government in the making” in 1948, shortly before Israel was inaugurated as a sovereign state. Joseph's “present” was the dusk of British rule in Palestine. Draconian Defence (Emergency) Regulations suspended conventional liberties ordinary westerners were accustomed to expect and turned Palestine into a police state.Precisely what “liberty of the individual” the esteemed jurist, who held degrees from both McGill University and the University of London, had in mind when he invoked the past of Palestine is not entirely clear. He could not have possibly meant liberty under the Ottoman regime which prevailed until 1918. Ottoman rule in Palestine was authoritarian, feudal and corrupt.

Abstract:
ObjectivesThe present study aimed to establish appropriate quality standards for emergency departments (EDQS) in Palestine.MethodsThe study comprised four phases. First, a comprehensive literature review was conducted to develop a framework for assessing healthcare services in EDs. Second, the initial set of EDQS was developed based on the review findings. Third, local experts provided feedback on the EDQS, suggesting additional standards, and giving recommendations. This feedback was analysed to create a preliminary set of EDQS. Finally, an expanded group of local emergency care experts evaluated the preliminary set, providing feedback on content and structure to contribute to the final set of EDQS.FindingsWe identified quality domains in EDs and categorised them into clinical and administrative pathways. The clinical pathway comprises 39 standards across 7 subdomains: triage, treatment, transportation, medication safety, patient flow and medical diagnostic services. Expert consensus was achieved on 87.5% of these standards. The administrative domain includes 64 consensus-based standards across 9 subdomains: documentation, information management systems, access-location, design, leadership, management, workforce staffing, training, equipment, supplies, capacity-resuscitation rooms, resources for a safe working environment, performance indicators and patient safety-infection prevention and control programmes.ConclusionThis study employed a rigorous approach to identify QS for EDs in Palestine. The multiphase consensus process ensured the appropriateness of the developed EDQS. Inclusion of diverse perspectives enriched the content. Future studies will validate and refine the standards based on feedback. The EDQS has potential to enhance emergency care in Palestine and serve as a model for other regions facing similar challenges.

Abstract:
This study aims to examine the relationship between financial inclusion indicators and bank performance in Palestine. The study population and its sample include all 15 banks operating in Palestine and cover the period 2006 to 2016 with panel data from 162 observations. To interpreter the variables, the study uses the volume of loans to SMEs (usage), banking penetration, number of ATMs and branches (access), and online banking, the latter if it is a dummy variable. Further, the study uses operational profits, total revenues and ROE as bank performance indicators and dependent variables. Using empirical analysis, the results indicated that banking penetration tools, branching and ATMs, could enhance bank performance. Despite the decline in lending to SMEs, this factor could positively improve the performance of banks in Palestine. In general, financial inclusion helps banks improve their performance and increase their revenues. This study recommends that government organizations can use the obtained results to formulate their strategies and agendas for improving financial inclusion in Palestine and other developing countries. Abstract:
This paper argues that images, and specifically agricultural images, play a significant role in the imaginings of the Israeli and Palestinian communities. Agriculture has symbolic and material value among Palestinians and Israelis, and contributes to identities and land claims made by Zionist and Palestinian organizations. Anderson’s discussion of nation building emphasizes the primacy of print in the imagination of a community; this paper highlights non-textual elements of nation building via case studies of the creation and dissemination of propaganda posters by the Jewish National Fund and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. A survey of propagandistic agricultural images reveals the shared symbols used by Palestinians and Israelis in forging identities and exclusive claims to land. Despite being common symbols from a shared past, agricultural images are crucial in creating and perpetuating a divide between Israelis and Palestinians, and in arguing for organic links between each group and the land of Palestine-Israel.

Abstract:
Since at least the 1930s, Palestine has had a continuous role as a laboratory of counterinsurgency. During the British Mandate, Palestine saw a consolidation of the techniques of imperial policing and the development of a complex military-legal apparatus of control, from “security fences” and watchtowers to mass incarceration and collective punishment to emergency laws and administrative detention. Palestine has continued to be the setting for counterinsurgency military exercises, with Israel incorporating the British Mandate laws in its legal corpus and British military practice in its doctrines. Based on extensive primary research, this essay traces the development of counterinsurgency doctrine and practice and the legal apparatuses that uphold it and argues that both in the incorporation of British transmission of doctrine, law, and practice from Palestine, and in the Israeli military's deployment of new and transportable techniques of control, Palestine has been gradually transformed into a central node of military knowledge/power within a global matrix of counterinsurgency.
