Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to examine what strategies teachers use when they teach listeningcomprehension in order to develop student’s listening skills, and especially if and how they usescaffolding in their teaching. To examine this, seven upper secondary school teachers inSweden were interviewed about their listening comprehension teaching. The qualitative datawere analyzed using a cross case analysis with a combination of framework and IPA analysis. The data was labeled and divided into two themes: general strategies and scaffolding. In thethemes the data was further sorted and categorized into language immersion, raising selfconfidence, division into smaller groups, notetaking, pre-information and connection to theme, collaborative discourses, teacher peer and modeling and finally increasing level of difficulty. All seven teachers discussed several different strategies they use. They often combine strategiesto create the best learning environment for the students. Six out of these seven teachers gaveexamples of scaffolding strategies they use, such as modeling, working with themes and preinformationto support their students. However, as mentioned previously, they were oftencombined with other strategies such as collaborative discourse and smaller groups.

Abstract:
This dissertation is grounded in my praxis as a Hatha yoga teacher in the community. I noticed that particular students were drawn to specific styles of Hatha yoga, whilst avoiding others. I took the styles of Hatha yoga into consideration, but further exploration also gave rise to whether methods of instruction were a fundamental component of the class demography. This in turn led to an examination of my own teaching pedagogy to explore how my philosophical approach to teaching, was in fact, carried over into to my praxis and if this was a factor in student retention in my classes. Studying my own pedagogy as a Hatha yoga teacher meant reviewing my philosophies, both from a theoretical perspective and later from a practical level, to see if my practice followed my philosophy. This could only be realised through a full investigation of my teaching methods, which was achieved by video taping one of my Hatha yoga classes. I believe that understanding originates from personal knowledge; therefore, the research must begin by examining my own pedagogy. In order to answer these questions I have investigated the historical foundations of yoga and the meaning of yoga in the modern Western world. During this process I became aware of the misrepresentations of Hatha yoga and the misconceptions that have derived from this. In order to answer my research question, whether my teaching pedagogy directly influenced the cohort of students who attended my yoga class, I have had to be cognisant of my own pedagogy. In order to achieve this I employed heuristic enquiry and more specifically the methods outline by Clark Moustakas (1990). Heuristic epistemology is achieved by creating phases in which the researcher uses her own experience to investigate and create meaning in which to discover a phenomenon. This method of enquiry offers the researcher non-linear steps with which to structure the process of a personal reflection. Explication of the pedagogy resulted from numerous viewings of the video recording. I reviewed my teaching methods to ascertain if what I said and thought I was doing was what I actually taught.

With the evolving technology, smart-phones are pretty common now and have been peoples' first choice of means for studying abilities. However, when talking about studying of embroidery sewing machines, will the situation stay the same? First thing first, we must know that people make their choices between different teaching media based on two main factors: is the medium efficient and whether they are familiar with it. Users tend to avoid the media they are not familiar with and this situation usually differs between different ages. This research will mainly focus on the different teaching media for embroidery sewing machines. This traditional masterpiece of design is very old and not a usual stuff we see every day, thus it's very difficult to operate. We've concluded the following four main points. 1) What kind of teaching media is overall more favored than the traditional hard copy ones. 2) How's the acceptance of all the different media? 3) How do different media make themselves the "quality contents"? 4) How do people of different ages choose their media? To begin with different teaching media nowadays, here's the quick list of what kind of media you could find: hardcopy instructions, teaching hotlines, instructional videos, instructional websites and of course, the good old fashioned way, go to the courses yourself. We put those media into 3 categories: traditional, digital and real ones. For users, we separate them from the young ones and the elder ones. The ratio of male and female is roughly around 1:2 and we also separate the users to beginners, amateurs, skilled and masters. We collected the data using questionnaires we threw out on the internet: 320 in total, which have 209 from the young and 95 from the elders. After getting rid of 16 invalid ones from those, we got 304 valid ones. The results we got in hand from the cross-validations show following contents: 1) The digital media (including videos, animations, online websites, mobile apps, VR/AR techs) are pretty much the best choice for both young and elder ages. 2) The most important elements to improve the quality of teaching media are illustrations, especially cartoon ones and photographs. 3) It seems like media with following elements usually have higher acceptance: high-lighted area, instructions that show accurate details, narrated by young lady's voice, 3Ded virtual model, and animated style. Last but not least, each video is roughly 3-minutes long. 4) For mobile apps, an easy and user-friendly interface is highly recommended followed by detailed instructions and video contents. It is also worth noticing most users prefer either a warm, fabric styled interface or a high-tech looked one. 5) Coming up with the real courses, the keyword "free" can always draw peoples' attention. For the research about the different favor of different ages, details are being represented at the chapter.4 of the paper. At present, there are not many related types of research on sewing machines. It is even rarer for analyzing the preference of different media. This research could be provided as the reference for any other research coming in future.

The consumption pattern has been transformed from material to spiritual consumption. The trend of commodity development is moving towards sophistication and individuation, which lead to the formation of the customization model to meet the consumers’ needs. The market for customized goods evolves with the Internet and lowering prices bring in new business opportunities. With consumers demanding quality, the sophistication of embroideries meets the consumers’ demands. Hence, this study focuses on investigating the sensation of clothing embroideries, aiming to summarize the sensation of hand embroideries and machine embroideries on clothing fabric. This study analyzed the information from references to produce the samples. The samples were embroideries that were produced by two different methods, hand and machine, on five different types of fabrics (cotton, hemp, silk, wool and rayon). At the same time, the adjectives collected were reduced and divided into 15 groups of question items. The samples were matched with the Semantic Differential Scale and the sensation were downsized with factor analysis method to consolidate the related sensation. Finally, the overall data was analyzed to summarize the overall sensation of embroideries manufactured in two different ways. The study results showed that the sensation of hand embroideries and machine embroideries on clothing fabric are similar. The senses of touch and visual are both charming, warm, bright, etc. However, the results of part of the questions showed differences. For the overall sensation of embroideries, the sensation of hand embroideries is consistent with the that of machine embroideries.

Owing to its location, Taiwan possesses of special races and rich history which both promote the development of traditional folk embroidery. Focusing on religious embroidery of temples in Tainan, the researcher investigates the subjects, forms, patterns, stitching styles, material adoption and applications of embroidery. The research shows that from the periods of Ching occupation, Japanese occupation to 1970s, reflecting on different social and cultural backgrounds, traditional folk embroidery in Tainan including its forms, patterns, stitching styles and material adoptions and applications varies and developed a diversity of appearances and characteristics. By field study and historical data collecting, the researcher aims to probe the origin and the development of traditional folk embroidery in Tainan. By in-depth interview and participant observation the research interviews embroidery technicians which helps to build the data of embroidery artistry. Further, the data of the historical embroidery relics enables the researcher to perceive how the evolution of stitching styles and material applications in accordance with different social backgrounds affects the embroidery styles. According to the findings, the development of the traditional folk embroidery in Tainan can be divided into five stages. At the first stage, the immigration age of Ching occupantion period, the embroidery style is subject to the implementing principles of contemporary religious rituals, and the subject matters often embody the elements of mythological legends and dramas. At the second stage, the stagnant age of Japanese occupantion period, being subject to religious beliefs and affected by Occidentalizing Japan, embroidery forms inherited the embroidery in Ching dynasty that tends to simplify the patterns of embroidery and to add new embroidery materials. At the third stage, the inheriting age of Taiwan restoring period, traditional embroidery artistry proceeded into the inheriting age. During this period of time, the inheriting tradition between masters and apprentices became the mainstream in Tainan City which follows the Ming embroidery style and local embroidery style. At the forth stage, 1960s to 1970s embroidery thriving age, during this period of time, people underwent steady regime and economy and were entailed with freedom of religious beliefs which boost the embroidery manufacturing. In addition, plastic materials are applied at this stage that tremendously affects stitching procedures and styles. At the final stage, after 1970s the age of machining embroidery, the more complex patterns and the more colorful the embroidery are, the more they are appealing to the market. The patterns and subjects of religious embroidery represent the symbols of religious rituals. Those symbols not only embody the auspicious meanings but manifest the cultural symbolic system which works to ward off evils. This system is originated from people’s beliefs of the operation of the world which reflects the concepts of five agents system and the system of God and evil beliefs. With the symbolic meanings of embroidery forms and patterns, people are able to interpret the ethos and their traditional views of the world.

Embroidery is a world-famous traditional art craft from the Chinese world. With the sophisticated skills of sewing thread through cloth and weave-fill stitch, it is seen as a valuable medium of creation and expressive method. Seeing that most of the design products are digital print and that the individualized, disntinctly handmade texture and the amateur’s craft are popular in recent years, I intend to apply embroidery in digital design. Through the refined skills of cloth and weave-fill stitch, I hope to tranmit different visual feels through the distilled design language. Thus, with the profound understanding of modern embroidery patterns and stitches, I intend to compare modern embroidery patterns and propose some suggestions. By experimenting on different thematic creations and studies, the realistic and experimental process can provide the development and research of the cultural industry of embroidery with new ideas. The more natural medium that takes cloth as paper and line as ink can be applied in design and development. With this experimental study, the traditional culture of embroidery is expected to be merged with design. Moreover, it introduces traditional handicraft into the domain of design and provides pioneering experiences to cultural and creative products.

Nowadays many pictures can be produced on the cloth by a sewing machine. However, there are some drawback must be solved, like too many colors. In addition, color down of the original pictures to a few colors will appear some fragmented objects. Therefore, this research proposes a Color reduction and eliminate bitty pixels (CREBP) algorithm. There are two parts in this algorithm: The first part is: when the picture is used by the image clustering, we exclude the edge and then let the edge recolored. The second part is: find out the fragmented objects and let it recolored again.

The present machine embroidery production operation flow can be divided into front end manual plate making operation and back end embroidery machine operation. Although there has been automatic embroidery machine at the back end, the front end plate making operation still depends significantly on professional labor using plate making software for plate making, visual inspection, and painting different colors in different patterns of various regions. The process is time and labor-consuming. Therefore, this study developed an automatic image analysis system for machine embroidery plate making, using automatic algorithm flow to solve the shortage of front end manpower and to shorten the plate making time. The machine embroidery technology is usually used in large size cloth, the cloth needs to be embroidered with repeated patterns to make the cloth colorful. In order to solve the front end identification of repeated patterns, this study designed an automatic repeated patterns recognition algorithm for machine embroidery image, and proposed a new fitness function for genetic algorithm to create a robust automatic repeated patterns identification algorithm. In order to perform automatic color separation procedure of front end plate making, the unsupervised clustering method was used for color separation of machine embroidery image plate making. Moreover, the cluster validity was used for analyzing K-means, K-medoid, fuzzy C-mean, Gustafson-kessel (G-K) clustering algorithm. The clustering algorithm and validity indicator suitable for machine embroidery were discussed for color separation and identification of number of colors. This study expected to create an automated technique of machine embroidery image plate making, and proposed an automatic repeated patterns identification and color separation system for machine embroidery images. First, the noise was filtered by using a color hybrid median filter, the image was smoothed by color bilateral filter and the boundary was reserved. The scale is reduced and the low frequency images were reserved by using two-dimensional discrete wavelet transform technology. The images of repeated patterns were identified automatically by using the new fitness function of this paper in genetic algorithm and the distortionless images were restored in the concept of image pyramid. The images of repeated patterns were verified by using frequency domain similarity template matching. The number of machine embroidery image colors and regions corresponding to colors were determined by using unsupervised G-K algorithm and segmentation indicator. Finally, the color varieties were specified by halftoning. The experimental result showed that the system can provide automatic and accurate identification and segmentation of images of repeated patterns. This study discussed the optimal calculation of unsupervised clustering algorithm in machine embroidery color separation and automatic precise color separation, as well as quick plate making in machine embroidery.

It is an important key to make user use quickly and operate easily when using smart computerized embroidery sewing machine that illustrating the role of function, so the function graphic illustration of design has an important position. At present, research on smart computerized embroidery sewing machine, which for the function graphic illustration yet have completely information to be supplied academia or industry for an effective reference. Therefore, this study was conducted to intelligent computerized embroidery sewing machine function explore to interface icons. This study uses the way of questionnaires, research methods will be divided into three phases, the first phase of the study is to collect functional icon of object of study and sort out and coding, the object is three well-known international brands, and the function and performance are similar to machines type: " BERNINA B880," " JANOME MC15000," " BROTHER VM6200D " touch screen and the cabinet with the function keys are divided into these three functions: "basic functions," " sewing functions," " embroidery features"; the second stage is the production of a questionnaire and adjustment; the third stage is arranged the questionnaire statistics information and data, and classify the sample of questionnaire, compare four options for each question of the illustration, and analyze the proportion of less than 30% of the icon, and then classify more than 30% illustration in accordance with the classification of Rogers, and analyze them . The design department of the University student set up an experiment object, due to major in design department student has sensitivity for images, and has user of intuitiveness. So the results of this study found out that the basic function approve of BROTHER and JANOME with the most test objects; sewing function approve of BROTHER with the most test objects; and embroidery function approve of BERNINA with the most test objects, a variety of factories and stores designed to functional diagram level of understanding are highest in BERNINA; the lowest is JANOMEM, but there are still some features shown not clearly to communicated to the test object. According to sorted out intelligent computerized embroidery sewing machine is divided into four functional diagram modeling "similar icon," "the illustrated example," "symbolic icon" and "mandatory icons," which "similar icon" and "accounts for the most part," it is based on the general public natural experience, or the actual object or state as simplicity, subjects were high associative of these two types. Subjects were selected pattern element in keeping with functional graphic illustration, to incline sharp contrast between black and white and streamline pattern, and less use of text directly, but in needing to use the text circumstance, complete wording than the abbreviation to easy to understand, and it will be in accordance with past experience, apply to live without making use of the interface, or directly to the actual object to simplify and increase user functionality for the association. Currently, computerized embroidery machine illustrating are predominantly based on a variety of manufacturers of the design, when you want to cross-platform or model, being cause the same function easily, but there is a different graphic situation, therefore this study bring up some of functional graphical illustration that find out what illustration identify function and then establish a principle and main points to make good use of the future design reference

The embroidery of the Baiyue minority is one of a essence of Chinese cultural assets. Unfortunately, this valuable cultural property has been gradually forgotten in modern society. Therefore, how to operate it sustainably becomes the first priority. Thus, by leading Baiyue minority embroidery into boutique hotel can be the best way to sustain the culture and to creat the local living space at the same time. Also, these discrepancies from others are the essentials which is more attractive for tourists. Through practical example, this study has found out the relationship between culture and theme design, and has worked out the connection on the industry and local culture. Here, we use the design with these profound cultures as the basis which completely accord with boutique hotel style. Take Hotel dùa, The place and Xilai town as examples to strength this study. For these works, we took Baiyue embroidery as main patterns which contain the mythology elements of Fish Plays Lotus, Sa Ten Ba (spider), Sun Moon and Stars. And also took boutique hotel branding design as subsidiary patterns so that we can preserve the original culture assets and creat the modern design as well.

For the past few years, the smart embroidery and sewing combo machine became popular in Chinese areas. Due to the high efficiency and simplicity of operation, it favored by personal designers and studios. The smart sawing machine is getting more and more attention, but the Chinese character system is incomplete and lack of corresponding characters. Also, the font developing system of the main smart sawing machine brands such as BROTHER, JANOME and BERNINA were developed by non-Chinese users, result in the lack of Chinese character. Under this circumstance, there are many wrong strokes and radicals when sawing Chinese characters. To avoid the thread sawing mistake and also considering the atheistic of embroidery characters, the clear rules of Chinese radical sawing need to be established. This study focuses on the segmentation of Chinese characters, and defined the rules of character composition. There are two parts of this study. In the first part, we focus on the segmentation of Chinese character, to unify the structure atheistic in chinese character embroidery, study the character composition and define the sawing rules. According to the references, the basic unit of Chinese character is radical, and the strokes compose radicals. Through studying the composition of Chinese character, we can divide every kind of characters into units systematically, then establish the Chinese character sawing rules in computer. We selected specific character strokes based on Chinese radical table that published by Ministry of Education, and use PMingLiU font as standard sample, to analyze the complex character stroke segmentation. We tested the character “永” and also studied the first three strokes of Kangxi Radicals, to analyze the best segregation mode. We sorted out seven segmentation rules and test them in common Chinese characters. Second part focus on the filling rules of Chinese radical sawing. Based on the seven segmentation rules, analyzing the contour of characters. According to the previous result, we defined the embroidery filling direction and angle in several characters, and simulating the filling distribution and angle variation in Adobe Illustrator. At last, we integrated a common angle table, and defined several filling rules, then we using PE-DESIGN NEXT embroidery software to test the result to see if the rules can apply to Chinese character samples. Through simplify and integrate the Chinese character radical, this study provides a workable embroidery rules to make the Chinese character system of sawing machine more complete, and more user friendly. Through the segmentation study, the Chinese character sawing rules has been integrated and the result could be further reference for future studies.

With the rapid development of science and technology, the product operation with the touch screen panel has become the mainstream mode today. Through the precise calculation of the microcomputer, the output product is more refined. Nowadays, under the trend of the “Maker Movement”, the smart embroidery sewing machine has become a new choice for home and studio. However, the more functions of the product, the more important are the functional icon on the interface. Therefore, whether the functional icon conforms to users’ habits or not will affect the operation success rate and the product usage rate of users. Most people today are less exposed to the field of embroidery and sewing, the study found that the performance and convenience of the smart embroidery sewing machines and cognitive impression of the past is very different from now, not only simplifies many complicated traditional operations. Such as trimming, reverse sewing, and even language translation, function description, USB transmission of embroidery drawings and editing functions and other intelligent functions, but also enhance the work of embroidery sewing works of exquisite by precise calculation. The related research on the functional icon of many 3C products such as smart phones and computers has become more and more saturated. However, there is not much research on the functional icon of the smart embroidery sewing machines, but this traditional craftsmanship has a history of more than one hundred years. Its importance cannot be ignored. Therefore, hopes that through this study of smart embroidery sewing machine functional icon shape of the discussion, let more people know more about this field. Due to the lack of uniform standards and specifications for button icons of various manufacturers, this study, through the research findings (Bei-He Lin, 2016) proposed by Bei-He Lin in 2016 as a research sample to found out the design trend of the current functional icons. Through the design of the functional icons of the overall number of nodes and component elements to understand the relationship between the complexity and preference of the function icons for the user, and the comparative analysis of the user's high preference icon shapes and the research samples. n this study, we took the high recognizable functional icons of “BERNINA B880”, “JANOME MC15000” and “BROTHER VM6200N”, which are from three major embroidery sewing machine labels as the research samples, and mapped them with Adobe Illustrator CC2015. The drawing process only used “Shape Build Tool” and ”Pen Tool”. The "Anchor Point" of the important turning points generated by these two tools is the same as the definition of the overall nodes, and therefore can be used as a basis for calculating the overall nodes in the iconic shape to analyze relationship with the number of overall nodes, component elements, and the complexity factor. Referring and improving the “Nine Combinations of Simplifications” which based on the simplification of overall nodes and component elements were presented by Jun-Cheng Xu and Wei-Yao Wang (2007), this study developed nine kinds of add-subtract shape complexity design which the form of the Chinese word “Jing (井)” called “Nine Complexity Combinations of the Jing Word”, to evaluated the complexity of the illustration, and explored the relationship between the degree of preference and complexity. The functional icons of the embroidery sewing were divided into the complexity factors of 1 to 5 in the study. This research used Google Internet Questionnaire to investigate the “ Survey of Complexity and High Preference of Sewing Functional Icons for Smart Embroidery Sewing Machine” and “ Survey of Complexity and High Preference of Embroidery Functional Icons for Smart Embroidery Sewing Machine” and found out that there were the largest number of questionnaires filled in among 18-30 years old students, but also found that for intelligent embroidery sewing machines less experience in the use of this project, but extremely interested in this research topic, could be developed customer of embroidery sewing machine industry. Through the questionnaire results that: 1. The 18-30 year-old student group prefers the high-complexity, functional icon style, which is higher than the embroidery machines on the current market. 2. Functional Icon Preference: Thick line strokes, arcs and rounded corners, bold arrows, and arrows with a triangular shape. 3. Functional style preferences: Close to realistic and figurative icons, and tailored professional symbols, like round hook, scissors. In addition, plus sign, frame and quotation marks have the meaning of the group; a single swivel arrow means rotation and rewinding, the double arrow has the function of replacement and reassembly; the dotted auxiliary line as an auxiliary line to increase the recognition, like advance, the mirroring function. 4. The number of overall nodes and the complexity coefficient are in direct proportion. If the icon shape designed with complext text, the component element and the overall node number (or complexity coefficient) are in inverse proportion. 5. The number of overall nodes and the complexity coefficient are in direct proportion. If the icon shape designed with complex text, the component element and the overall node number (or complexity coefficient) are in inverse proportion. The embroidery function is more complicated than the basic and sewing functions. Therefore, the functional icon of the embroidery needs more realistic and elaborate, and more details to illustrate. Through the microscopic shape differences, organizing and analyzing the questionnaire results to know the numbers of overall node and component elements, the complexity factor and other data of the icon shape for users to provide references of icon design for functional embroidery and sewing machine in the future. This ancient art of tattoos began with China's Warring States period (475-221 BC). It has a long development history and has lasted to the 21st century. Nowadays, there are a lot of tattoo workshops all around the world, especially in Southeast Asia. Thailand has made the art of tattoos a new art of the new era becoming a mix of East-West art forms. The “embroiled eyebrow tattoo” has been developed for several decades as an industry of innovation and technological growth. However, there are few, if any, relevant studies of the development limitations and bottlenecks of tattoos. Meanwhile there are also some technological innovations on tattoo techniques. This study would utilize this innovation to propose some strategic management measures to make a greater contribution to the overall development of the business of tattoo. Therefore, this study aims to understand the development of the industry of “embroidered eyebrow tattoos,” its problems and limitations in order to propose some business strategies and service innovations. To do so, this study also conducted expert interviews and questionnaire surveys for SWOT analysis to identify the most appropriate service innovation strategies in terms of radical business strategy planning. The research results highlight the following: (1) the insufficiency in the relevant certification credibility and lack of government agencies to supervise the certification and evaluate criteria (2) the necessity to integrate “embroidered eyebrow tattooing” into professional skills certification projects to upgrade the relevant technologies. (3) the difficulty in expanding the size of the market in terms of chain stores or other cooperative projects. (4) the need to strengthen marketing strategy to let more customers understand “embroidered eyebrow tattoo” innovation and results to attract clientele. (5) the lack of norms in gauging various sources of pigment, a damage that requires the government to address it by providing relevant norms explicitly. In short, this study urges all those engaged in “eyebrow tattooing” business to adopt service as the core of the overall business strategy, to merge with health clinics or to strengthen technical alliances with relevant industries, to promote the function of business associations to help develop the whole industry, and to fight for adding “eyebrow tattooing” to national authentication management.

Abstract This study aimed to use the fascinating contexts, novel imaginations, diverse themes, and harmonious atmospheres of fairy tales to attract students to read fairy tales and cultivate their interest in reading. Through the design of reading instructions, it was expected that students could experience the truthfulness, goodness, and beauty of fairly tales through reading discussions and further integrate the affective issues in life to cultivate their abilities of understanding, discussing, and solving problems. This study conducted the teaching activity of fairy tale reading on the basis of the concept and spirit of action research. The fifth grade students taught by the researcher were selected as research subjects. Eight fairy tales included in the Fairy Tale Collection published by Youth Cultural, including Hold Hands Blacky, Quest for the Giant of the Heart, The Quarrel over Clothes, Straw man Kaka, The Beautiful Duck, The Little Red, Little Muggins, and The Happy Pig were selected as reading materials. The reading discussion model was adopted. Affective issues were incorporated, and four subjects, including Discover Yourself, Everyone Has His Place, Challenge the Difficult, and To Help is the Best Enjoyment, were designed. According to group discussion, questions, learning, and response of students, as well as the instructor’s observation and reflection, the instructional method was adjusted at all times to derive the most effective instructional and guiding method. In the research process, it was discovered that the rich storyline and vivid descriptions of fairy tales, if proper instructed, can indeed improve children’s interest in reading. Besides, the portrayal of local fairy tales is also close to children’s life experiences, so they are materials suitable for affective education. Based on the problems encountered in the teaching process and the research findings, this study also provided suggestions and references for follow-up educators and researchers, hoping that follow-up educators and researchers could make a more in-depth investigation in issues related to “fairy tale teaching” and “reading and affection”.

The Study of Elementary School Teachers''Teaching Beliefs and Teaching Efficiencyes Abstract The purpose of this study is fivefold: to have a better understanding of the teaching beliefs and efficiency of the teachers in Kaohsiung’s elementary schools; to explore what teachers’ backgrounds will pull out from their teaching beliefs; to study how teaching belief and teaching efficiency are related; and to see if teaching belief could predict efficiency. 630 Kaohsiung city teachers were surveyed by answering a questionnaire edited and given by the author, in which a profile of the relationship between belief and efficiency could be determined as the average and standard deviation have been counted. The data of the relationship are collected using t-test, one-way variance analysis, followed by Scheff’s multiple comparison if the test result reaches a high level, and then Person’s product-moment correlation method is applied to see whether belief and efficiency are apparently related to each other, the last step is to use Stepwise multi-regression analysis method to parse whether teaching belief of all kinds can foresee integrated as well as stratum-based teaching efficiency. Conclusion 1. Though the teachers’ teaching beliefs are improving steadily, their willingness and beliefs towards community participation needs improvement. 2. Their teaching efficiency is half way from perfect. The study also shows that there is still room for improvement in the following two areas: teacher’s “ self-efficiency” and “adjustment to environment.” 3. Teaching years, additional jobs other than teaching, and school size are influential in their teaching beliefs. Senior teachers, school deans, and middle-size school teachers are among those with the most progress-inclined teaching beliefs. 4. Teaching years, additional jobs other than teaching , and school size are influential factors to teaching efficiency. Senior teachers, middle-size school teachers teach most effectively than others who are not senior and in the middle-size school. 5. The teacher whose teaching belief is prone to progress teaches more efficiently than the one whose teaching belief is conventional. 6. There is an apparent elationship between teaching bewief and teaching efficiency; the former affects the latter. 7. Teaching belief can interpret and predict teaching efficiency. Implications and Suggestions 1.The administration of education should: (1) elaborate on letting teachers form common sense on educational reforms and adjust their beliefs that we are going to have a better education coming up. (2) control school size, because a middle-size school helps its teachers participate in community activities. 2.The institute which offers educational programs to would-be teachers should: (1) have a strong a grip on the content of educational reforms, and materialize would-be teachers’ training programs. (2) engaging both teaching and internship, enforting the progression-inclined beliefs to upgrade efficiency. 3.The school administration should: (1) offer up-to-date information of education, and integrally plan and offer teachers teaching resources. (2) change teachers’ intellectual models, and build up learning-style institutes and teaching teams. (3) have a sound administrative operation, assist teachings, and remove factors that deter them from teaching more effectively. (4) reshape teachers’ new images, hold seminars and encourages them to go advanced studies. 4.The teacher should: (1) understand his or her hidden teaching beliefs through the feedbacks from the students’ parents. (2) frequently reflect him- or herself, and then correct the beliefs through the reflections. (3) walk out of the myth of the classroom kingdom, reinforce the cooperative connection with parents, and interact with the community. (4) fulfill progress-inclined beliefs, and strengthen professional knowledge and skills, so as to increase teaching efficiency. (5) encourage colleagues learn from one another, so that senior teachers could pass on their experiences.

Abstract The main objective of this research is to perform current status and correlation study between the teaching belief and effective teaching behavior of the ballet teacher of the dancing school in Taipei district. In this research, “survey method” is adopted, and the ballet teachers in the dancing schools in Taipei District are used as research targets, meanwhile, “purposive sampling” and “snowball sampling” methods are adopted. The formal samples under test were one hundred thirty-five subjects, the actually acquired effective samples are 130, and effective return rate of 96.3% is obtained. The research tools include: “personal background information survey table”, “teaching belief scale”, “effective teaching behavior scale”, and “interview outlines”. Data analysis methods include: frequency distribution, percentage, mean, standard deviation, independent sample T test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé method, Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient, and Multiple Regression Analysis. The conclusions of this research are as followed: I. The current status of “teaching belief” and “effective teaching behavior” of ballet teacher of dancing school in Taipei district. 1. The entire “teaching belief” of ballet teacher tends to be in aggressive and positive situation; among them, the “teaching belief” of “teacher and student relationship” perspective is the most aggressive and positive one. 2. The “effective teaching behavior” tends to be in prime condition; among them, “effective teaching behavior” of “class operation” repeated has the best performance. II. The differences among “personal background factor”, “teaching belief” and “effective teaching behavior”. 1. “Teaching belief” has significant difference due to difference in “age” and “marital status”. Among them, the entire “teaching belief” of teachers in the age range of “31~40 years old” is more aggressive and positive as compared to that of teachers in the age range of “below 30 years old”; the entire “teaching belief” of “married” teacher is more aggressive and positive than that of the “unmarried” one. 2. Among them, teachers of the age range “31~40 years old” and “41~50 years old” show superior entire“ effective teaching behavior” to that of teachers of age “below 30 years old”; “married” teachers show superior“ effective teaching behavior” to that of “unmarried” teachers. III. There is significant and high positive correlation between “teaching belief” and “effective teaching behavior”, that is, when the “teaching belief” of ballet teacher becomes more aggressive and positive, the “effective teaching behavior” becomes better. IV. The ballet teachers in dancing school in Taipei district, in “age”, “teaching years of experience” and “entire teaching belief”, can effectively predict the “entire effective teaching behavior”. Among them, three factors can predict 57% variance of “entire effective teaching behavior” of the ballet teacher. According to the research results and conclusions of this research, in ballet teacher aspect, we suggest that “ballet teacher” should emphasize on the training of basic dancing skill and should incubate students’ strict learning attitude through mutual assistance and teaching experience sharing. In teaching related department aspect, we suggest that “education related departments” should increase the advanced study channel for ballet teachers, open pre-job training in ballet curriculum, provide more related sources such as ballet teaching books and videos and sponsor ballet dancing exhibition so that students can have good learning performance. Key words: Taipei district, ballet teacher, teaching belief, effective teaching behavior

In order to understand deeply for the teacher’s teaching style and the aesthetic experience of students from the learning process, this study adopt case study. Data are collected through observing, interviews and document analysis. Furthermore, triangulation is used to check the data. The results can be summarized as following: I.The ways and connotations of aesthetic experience that teachers and students create with the different teachers’ teaching styles. i.The teacher who is more “student center-life experience oriented” is teaching with student-centered. The teacher guide students to interact with the environment in specific situations, and to feel and reflect from the operation and experience. Besides, the teacher guide the students to find problems and solve them, so that they can enjoy the self-sufficiency feeling after they accomplished the activities. ii.The teacher who is more “teacher center-life experience oriented” often lead students to discuss, and transform the teaching materials to fit for students' cognitive development and life experience. Besides, The teacher guide students to discover and to understand the subject knowledge and cognitive structure deeply through thinking, discussing, arguing and clarifying, so that the students can feel the beauty of the admirable. II.The common elements of aesthetic experience that teachers and students create with the different teachers’ teaching styles. To create a relaxed, warm, harmonious, and free dialogue learning atmosphere positively. And to teach through the flexible teaching objectives, the diversity of teaching methods, and wonderful teachers and students conversations. To guide students learning through asking questions and discussing to challenge students’ ideas. Then make students enjoy the self-sufficiency feeling through the practical problem-solving process. According to the conclusions, the following suggestions might be provided: I.For teachers: Teachers should understand the subject knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge deeply to transform the subject materials to link with students’ life experience. Create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere in the classroom so that students can interact and talk with teacher freely. Then teachers should combine personal professional specialty and interest to shape the individual teaching style. II.For future researches: Try to compare and analyze the different cases of the same grade and the same subject, to get to the bottom of the relationship between the teacher’s teaching style and the aesthetic experience of students in the classroom.

The major purpose of this study is to explore the preservice teachers’ teaching beliefs, its influential factors and teacher belief changes after teaching practicum courses and teaching reflection. There are two main purposes of this study: (1)To explore preservice teachers’ teaching beliefs and its influential factors. (2)To explore preservice teachers’ teaching reflection during teaching practicum courses. For achieving the above purposes of the study, it took one semester to collect data and interviews for exploring teaching beliefs, classroom observation, microteaching, field experiences and teaching reflection and analyzing preservice teachers’ teaching beliefs, influential factors and teaching reflection in concept mapping, assignments and interviews. The final provides some suggestions for teaching professional growth and the improvement of teacher education. The results indicated that preservice teacher’s teaching beliefs are through single to diversification and progress substitute for traditions in the varied age. After a series of teaching practicum courses, teaching beliefs cannot practice teaching behavior. There are three main factors: (1)The classroom observation: according to mentor’s pedagogy, it is back to traditional teaching. (2)The external factor: under the pressure of obtaining high degrees, on the basis of the premise that the grade of the student was improved results in a learning instruction style which teachers are active but the students are passive. (3)The internal factor: unfamiliar teaching experience and lack of professional knowledge result in differences between teaching beliefs and teaching behaviors. Reflective behavior of the preservice teacher has three stages: (1)The optimistic teaching beliefs for field experiences: to understand curriculum planning is difficult. (2)Unexpected problems in field experiences: even though preservice teachers understand the problem in confused classroom, they can not improve their teaching behaviors immediately. (3)Face to reality situation of teaching on field experiences: preservice teachers are conscious of curriculum planning imperfect , lack of explanation ability , to “guess” students’ prior knowledge, lack of the ability of classroom management and professional knowledge for teaching.

Influenced by the Latin language linguistic structures, it is very likely to be going through word-based teaching approach while studying Chinese as a foreign language. This teaching method considers“word”as the basic unit for teaching, while the Chinese characters would simply become written symbols subordinate to vocabulary learning. However, unlike Latin language, Chinese characters contain appearance, sound and meaning within one sinogram. Linguistic Ju(1985) and Xu(2008) indicated that using Latin language linguistic structure to explain Chinese is not suitable.”Sinogram Unit Theory”which emphasizes the importance of Chinese characters emerged in the end of 20th centrury. And the sinogram-based teaching approach also tries to find an effective way to reinforce literacy skills and to expand vocabulary by emphasizing the systematic structures of Chinese characters. This study developed a sinogram-based teaching material for CFL learners. This study also carried out a teaching experiment to ethnic Chinese learners at National Taiwan Normal University, in order to observe learners’feedback and the effects from sinogram-based teaching approach. The study results showed that compared with original teaching approach, sinogram-based teaching approach did lead to a better outcomes and the learners also showed positive attitudes towards sinogram-based teaching approach.

Fung, Mary Lena. "A study on wisdom, wisdom in teaching, teacher efficacy, and teaching performance." Thesis, 1996. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/4811.

Full text
Abstract:
Despite a rising interest in studying the effects and the antecedents of teacher efficacy, a review of literature indicated that an important individual variable has been left out of these studies. This is the cognitive component which Bandura (1977) suggests is central to the process of efficacy formulation. Specifically Bandura (1977) argues that for performance to be instructive for efficacy formulation, a type of cognitive appraisal needs to be present. To date, this cognitive appraisal has not been identified in teacher efficacy studies. The purpose of this thesis is to search for a way to represent this cognitive component and to examine its role in teaching performance and efficacy formulation. Two variables are selected as possible representations of this cognitive component. They are wisdom and wisdom in teaching. The two research questions developed for this study are: (1) What is the relative contribution of wisdom, wisdom in teaching, personal teaching efficacy, and general teaching efficacy to teaching performance? And (2) What is the relative contribution of wisdom, wisdom in teaching, and teaching performance to the formulation of personal teaching efficacy and general teaching efficacy? Eighty-nine final year student teachers were asked to respond to three instruments that measured their level of wisdom, wisdom in teaching, and teacher efficacy. These instruments were: (1) Life planning dilemma "Jack" (Smith & Baltes, 1987), (2) Teaching dilemma "Perimeter" (Arlin, 1987), and (3) The teacher efficacy scale (Gibson & Dembo, 1984). The participants were also asked to submit their teaching practicum marks. This mark represents their teaching performance. Teaching performance was best explained by the combined effects of wisdom in teaching and personal teaching efficacy than by either of them alone. Jointly these two variables accounted for 54% of variance in teaching performance. Wisdom in teaching and teaching performance provided a better explanation for the formulation of personal teaching efficacy than each taken in turn. The joint effects of wisdom, wisdom in teaching, and teaching performance accounted for 7% of variance in the formulation of both personal teaching efficacy and general teaching efficacy. An important finding from this study is that wisdom in teaching has the greatest impact on teaching performance. An implication of this finding is that teacher educators should develop and provide programmes which can help facilitate the growth of wisdom in teaching.

This study is based on art anthropology, discussing what the aboriginal art is for both the enlargement on cultural business and native workshops, and how these artistic works communicate with the three following aspects: 1. the creator;2. the aboriginal society; 3. the culture. The analysis mainly focused on the study of the Hung-Lee Doll, the handcrafted embroidery by Chun-Hua Chen of Rukai and Ping-Tung, to research the inner concept and meaning. The study has discovered that art not only expresses through topics and externals, but also unveils the inner feelings of creators to last Rukai culture, inherit handcrafted embroidery, and value life. By using of different cultural elements, two ways the creator used to distinguish the creations from the merchandise, like the hybridity on Hakka floral fabric or Paiwan blouse pattern, and by which, it can shape the indigenous art and communicate with other cultures. This study has discovered the aesthetic experience and cultural values by indigenous arts. It both represents the innovation embroidery and possesses the cultural values on the aboriginal views of Taiwan. It can be looking forward to inheritance and eternal development on Taiwan culture, learning the meaning of the coexistence between Nature and natives.
