Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the benefits of Ad-Video and Product-Video congruity for embedded online video advertising. A conceptual model is constructed to test how congruity between online advertisements, advertised products and online videos impact consumer post-viewing attitudes via processing fluency. Design/methodology/approach An online experiment with eight versions of mock video sections (with embedded online video advertisements) was conducted. The study is a 2 (type of appeal: informational vs emotional) × 2 (Ad-Video congruity: congruent vs incongruent) × 2 (Product-Video congruity: congruent vs incongruent) full-factorial between-subject design. A total of 252 valid responses were collected for data analysis. Findings Results show that congruity is related to the improvement of processing fluency only for informational ads/videos. The positive effect of Ad-Video congruity on processing fluency is only significant for informational appeals but not emotional appeal. Similarly, the positive effects of Product-Video congruity on processing fluency are only significant for informational appeals but not emotional appeal. Involvement has been found to be positively related to processing fluency too. Processing fluency has a positive impact on the attitudes toward the ads, advertised products and videos. Research limitations/implications The finding that congruity is related to the improvement of processing fluency only for informational ads/videos extends the existing literature by identifying the type of appeal as a boundary condition. Practical implications Both brand managers and online video platform owners should monitor and operationalize the content and appeal congruity, especially for informational ads on a large scale to improve consumers’ responses. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first paper to examine the effects of Ad-Video and Product-Video congruity of embedded advertisements on video sharing platforms. The findings of this study add to the literature on congruity and processing fluency.

Abstract To solve the massive noise contained in the images acquired under low illumination, we designed a digital video image Preprocessing device with the denoising function. Based on the embedded CPU and operating system, video images are acquired by the camera. The noise contained in the video images is filtered by the improved median filtering algorithm and wavelet image denoising. Subsequently, the images are transmitted through USB and network interface, and the storage function of image files is implemented. The device can remove the noise contained in videos effectively, which is conducive to performing more advanced processing on the images.

Video processing and cache capacity in embedded system in camera is the key to decide intelligence of shooting system. In particular, to meet the demand for continuous monitoring in video surveillance environment, the embedded system must be able to store the video in case of failure in network or server. In this paper, a storage method for videos with fixed size is proposed, which can effectively restrain occurrence of fragment during storage and raise I/O performance while ensuring continuity of monitoring. Furthermore, storage of video data based on H.264/AVC encoding system and its optimization are also discussed.

An embedded audio-video synchronization compression coding approach is presented. The proposed method takes advantage of the different mode types used by the H.264 encoder during the inter prediction stage, different modes carry corresponding audio information, and the audio will be embedded into video stream by choosing modes during the inter prediction stage, then synchronization coding is applied to the mixing video and audio. We have verified the synchronization processing method based on H.264/AVC using JM Model and experimental results show that this method has achieved synchronization between audio and video at small embedded cost, and the same time, audio signal can be extracted without distortion, besides, this method has hardly effect on the quality of video image.

Abstract:
Traffic monitoring from closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras on embedded systems is the subject of the performed experiments. Solving this problem encounters difficulties related to the hardware limitations, and possible camera placement in various positions which affects the system performance. To satisfy the hardware requirements, vehicle detection is performed using a lightweight Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), named SqueezeDet, while, for tracking, the Simple Online and Realtime Tracking (SORT) algorithm is applied, allowing for real-time processing on an NVIDIA Jetson Tx2. To allow for adaptation of the system to the deployment environment, a procedure was implemented leading to generating labels in an unsupervised manner with the help of background modelling and the tracking algorithm. The acquired labels are further used for fine-tuning the model, resulting in a meaningful increase in the traffic estimation accuracy, and moreover, adding only minimal human effort to the process allows for further accuracy improvement. The proposed methods, and the results of experiments organised under real-world test conditions are presented in the paper.

Abstract:
Citizen safety in modern urban environments is an important aspect of life quality. Implementation of a smart city approach to video surveillance depends heavily on the capability of gathering and processing huge amounts of live urban data. Analyzing data from high bandwidth surveillance video streams provided by large size distributed sensor networks is particularly challenging. We propose here an efficient method for automatic violent behavior detection designed for video sensor networks. Known solutions to real-time violence detection are not suitable for implementation in a resource-constrained environment due to the high processing power requirements. Our algorithm achieves real-time processing on a Raspberry PI-embedded architecture. To ensure separation of temporal and spatial information processing we employ a computationally effective cascaded approach. It consists of a deep neural network followed by a time domain classifier. In contrast with current approaches, the deep neural network input is fed exclusively with motion vector features extracted directly from the MPEG encoded video stream. As proven by results, we achieve state-of-the-art performance, while running on a low computational resources embedded architecture.

Abstract:
Video processing is an additional system that can improve the functionality of video surveillance. Integration of a simple video processing system into a complete camera system with a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) is an important step for research, to further improve the tracking process. This paper presents the integration of greyscale conversion into a complete camera system using Nios II software build tools for Eclipse. The camera system architecture is designed using the Nios II soft-core embedded processor from Altera. The proposed greyscale conversion system is designed using the C programming language in Eclipse. Parts of the architecture design in the camera system are important if greyscale conversion is to take place in the processing, such as synchronous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM) and a video decoder driver. The image or video is captured using a Terasic TRDB-D5M camera and the data are converted to RGB format using the video decoder driver. The converted data are shown in binary format and the greyscale conversion system extracts and processes the data. The processed data are stored in the SDRAM before being sent to a VGA monitor. The camera system and greyscale conversion system were developed using the Altera DE2-70 development platform. The data from the video decoder driver and SDRAM were examined to confirm that the data conversion matched greyscale conversion formulae. The converted data in the SDRAM correctly displayed the greyscale image on a VGA monitor.

Abstract:
As the main means of transportation for urban residents, the number of motor vehicles is increasing year by year. With the continuous development of society and the gradual improvement of people’s quality of life, automobiles have gradually become an indispensable means of transportation in people’s lives, resulting in increased traffic flow. However, the old traffic system is still unable to cope with the rapid growth of traffic pressure, and traffic congestion and various accidents occur frequently, which is a huge test for the contemporary intelligent traffic system. With the gradual development of society, more and more researchers are devoted to intelligent transportation systems, which make the development of target detection technology based on video image processing more and more rapid. The primary problem in embedding digital video in applications is that the complexity of video encoding and decoding far exceeds that of simple image and audio compression and decompression. Digital video can take various forms and formats. Developers need to support complex configurations and various aspects, such as different resolutions/display sizes, different bit rates, real-time issues, and even the reliability of the video source. Intelligent transportation achieved a lot of results. However, there are still some deficiencies in precision and robustness. At the same time, the improvement of video image processing technology gives us a new idea. To further improve the intelligent traffic system, provide accurate data information for all departments, and improve the traffic situation, this study, based on video image processing technology, combined with the three-frame difference algorithm, calculates and studies the data of illegal parking at a certain intersection. The calculated false detection rates for Y2 are 1.1%, 0.9%, and 2.4%, and the leakage rates for Y1 are 2.4%, 1.9%, and 4.7%, respectively. This shows that the algorithm has high accuracy for vehicle parking detection data and can collect information quickly and effectively. Applying the algorithm to the detection of other vehicles can provide efficient services for relevant traffic departments and public security departments and relieve traffic pressure. The image processing technology is a process of analyzing and processing images through certain computer technology to achieve the desired results. The scheme in the article realizes background extraction, image filtering, image binarization, morphological transformation, vehicle detection and segmentation, shadow detection, etc.

Abstract:
In this paper we propose a novel saliency-based computational model for visual attention. This model processes both top-down (goal directed) and bottom-up information. Processing in the top-down channel creates the so called skin conspicuity map and emulates the visual search for human faces performed by humans. This is clearly a goal directed task but is generic enough to be context independent. Processing in the bottom-up information channel follows the principles set by Itti et al. but it deviates from them by computing the orientation, intensity and color conspicuity maps within a unified multi-resolution framework based on wavelet subband analysis. In particular, we apply a wavelet based approach for efficient computation of the topographic feature maps. Given that wavelets and multiresolution theory are naturally connected the usage of wavelet decomposition for mimicking the center surround process in humans is an obvious choice. However, our implementation goes further. We utilize the wavelet decomposition for inline computation of the features (such as orientation angles) that are used to create the topographic feature maps. The bottom-up topographic feature maps and the top-down skin conspicuity map are then combined through a sigmoid function to produce the final saliency map. A prototype of the proposed model was realized through the TMDSDMK642-0E DSP platform as an embedded system allowing real-time operation. For evaluation purposes, in terms of perceived visual quality and video compression improvement, a ROI-based video compression setup was followed. Extended experiments concerning both MPEG-1 as well as low bit-rate MPEG-4 video encoding were conducted showing significant improvement in video compression efficiency without perceived deterioration in visual quality.

Abstract:
Advances in Artificial intelligence (AI) and embedded systems have resulted on a recent increase in use of image processing applications for smart cities’ safety. This enables a cost-adequate scale of automated video surveillance, increasing the data available and releasing human intervention. At the same time, although deep learning is a very intensive task in terms of computing resources, hardware and software improvements have emerged, allowing embedded systems to implement sophisticated machine learning algorithms at the edge. Additionally, new lightweight open-source middleware for constrained resource devices, such as EdgeX Foundry, have appeared to facilitate the collection and processing of data at sensor level, with communication capabilities to exchange data with a cloud enterprise application. The objective of this work is to show and describe the development of two Edge Smart Camera Systems for safety of Smart cities within S4AllCities H2020 project. Hence, the work presents hardware and software modules developed within the project, including a custom hardware platform specifically developed for the deployment of deep learning models based on the I.MX8 Plus from NXP, which considerably reduces processing and inference times; a custom Video Analytics Edge Computing (VAEC) system deployed on a commercial NVIDIA Jetson TX2 platform, which provides high level results on person detection processes; and an edge computing framework for the management of those two edge devices, namely Distributed Edge Computing framework, DECIoT. To verify the utility and functionality of the systems, extended experiments were performed. The results highlight their potential to provide enhanced situational awareness and demonstrate the suitability for edge machine vision applications for safety in smart cities.

Abstract:
Video watermarks must maintain picture quality and withstand image processing, and resolving the tradeoff between these conflicting requirements has been one of the central problems in research on video watermarking. This paper shows that watermarks are less perceptible where picture contents are moving and proposes a new criterion for measuring watermark imperceptibility from motion vectors and deformation quantities. It also proposes a watermarking method that uses this criterion to allocate watermarks to picture areas adaptively. Experimental evaluation showed that the proposed method reduces degradation in picture quality and that, for the same picture quality after MPEG encoding and decoding, between 30% and 40% more watermarks can be embedded, improving detection reliability after MPEG processing by an average of 9.5%. The proposed method would be most effective when used with MPEG encoders because they already have the necessary motion estimation functions.

Abstract:
Ship detection and recognition are important for smart monitoring of ships in order to manage port resources effectively. However, this is challenging due to complex ship profiles, ship background, object occlusion, variations of weather and light conditions, and other issues. It is also expensive to transmit monitoring video in a whole, especially if the port is not in a rural area. In this paper, we propose an on-site processing approach, which is called Embedded Ship Detection and Recognition using Deep Learning (ESDR-DL). In ESDR-DL, the video stream is processed using embedded devices, and we design a two-stage neural network named DCNet, which is composed of a DNet for ship detection and a CNet for ship recognition, running on embedded devices. We have extensively evaluated ESDR-DL, including performance of accuracy and efficiency. The ESDR-DL is deployed at the Dongying port of China, which has been running for over a year and demonstrates that it can work reliably for practical usage.

Abstract:
<p><span>Digital video watermarking is an effective way to protect the ownership of the multimedia contents. A novel compressed domain based digital video watermarking algorithm scheme is proposed by exploiting MPEG-2 structure. Watermark bits are embedded in DC and AC coefficients both of only smooth discrete cosine transform (DCT) blocks from selected I-frames in the original digital video. The algorithms never exploited entire frames but explore only three location from the subset of DCT blocks from the subgroup of I-frames only. This process maintains the perceptibility of the watermarked video. Two parameters, normalized correlation (NC) and bit error rate (BER) are used to evaluate the degree of similarity and dissimilarity respectively to check the robustness against image processing and video specific intentional and non-intentional attacks. The security of embedded watermark is enhanced by applying three cryptographic keys. The experimental results demonstrated that the better robustness and perceptibility achieved by comparing the results with the state of art. </span></p>

Abstract:
A new video watermarking scheme against geometric distortions is proposed, which is most suitable for DCT-encoded compressed video, like MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, etc. To lower the computational cost, 2-D DFT coefficients are constructed directly from the block DCTs by exploiting a fast inter-transformation. Then a watermark is embedded in a RST (rotation, scaling, and translation) invariant domain generated by performing the Fourier-Mellin transform (FMT) on the 2-D DFT magnitudes. For resisting different video format conversion, the watermark detection is performed in the spatial domain. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme is transparent and robust to typical signal processing attacks, lots of commonly geometric distortions including scaling, rotation and some combination of several attacks, and frame dropping.

Abstract:
Video applications are significantly growing in the last years, especially in embedded/mobile systems. Modern video compression algorithms and standards, such as the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), achieved a high efficiency in compression ratio. However, such efficiency has caused an augment on the complexity to encode videos. This is a serious problem especially in mobile systems, which present restrictions on processing and energy consumption. This paper presents an enhanced Test Zone Search (TZS) algorithm, aiming at complexity reduction of the Motion Estimation (ME) process in the HEVC standard and focusing efficient hardware design for mobile encoders. The proposed algorithm is composed of two strategies: an early termination scheme for TZS, called e-TZS, and the Octagonal-Axis Raster Search Pattern (OARP). When combined and implemented in the HEVC reference encoder, the strategies allowed an average complexity reduction of 75.16% in TZS, with a negligible BD-rate increase of only 0.1242% in comparison to the original algorithm. Besides, the approach presents an average block matching operation reduction of 80%, allowing hardware simplification and decreasing memory access.
