Full textThis work was realized within the collaboration of the research center of BSN Glasspack and the Laboratory of Tribology and Dynamics of Systems (UMR 5513/CNRS/ECL/ENISE) which objectives are the study of glass's packaging rupture and the development of techniques aiming at its reinforcement. Knowing that breakage is due to the simultaneous presence of a defect and a sufficient constraint to cause the opening of it, the increase in the mechanical resistance is obtained while proceeding according to two principles : the defect's elimination, and the suppression of tensile stresses in the articles. It is while following these two ideas that all the work aiming at studying the rupture and the reinforcement of glass packaging were carried out with : The analysis of the various elements, which occurred in the comprehension of the glass breakage phenomena. The characterization of the container's natural defects realized with artificial defects, generated on formed articles and studies with theories adapted to standardized cases. This aim at developing a predictive model able to evaluate the potential resistance of an article knowing the characteristics of his principal defect. Finally, the practical issue of this work was the simultaneous development of a shock absorber product and a regular and reliable application trchnique to wrap the glass articles intp shock absorber in order to dissipate the energy generated during a mechanical shock and removing the tensile stresses developing

Full textNew requirements of individuals, associated the increase in the offer suggested by companies, involve a bursting of needs. Each individual becomes of more in more demanding for the proposed offer of products, thus obliging companies to replace the consumer in the heart of their concerns. Packaging, having for mission of conveying the products, while emphasizing them at eyes of the consumer under most various modes of conditioning, does not escape not with this trend. An optimization of the concept packaging implies to study precisely the sensory stimuli whose cognitive interpretation will involve the purchase or not of a product. During this study, we were so interested in the use of the sensory assessment for packaging. This method was developed in the Thirties to make good a lack of effective instrumental method in the food industry to quantify the taste. It makes call with all the senses, smell, taste, touch, hearing or sight and uses the Man like "measuring instrument". The final goal of this study will be the development of a methodology making it possible to take into account various tactile and visual sensory aspects of packaging, in adapting the method of sensory assessment in particular by the contribution of others sciences or disciplines, such as ergonomics

Full textThis thesis is a part of the studies carried out on organizational dynamics regarding occupational risks prevention, led in particular in the French National Institute for Research and Safety (INRS). The key issue is to put forward terms and conditions of prevention which take into account the work realities and industrial realities. From interventions carried out in five waste sorting centres for household packaging, in a context of industrialization of the waste recycling sector, this research aims to better understand the work of sorting operator, in order to determine vectors for actions in prevention. The waste sorting centres are productive entities, part of green business sector, where industrial challenges carry two major dimensions of sustainable development: territoriality and social sustainability. The method that we chose aims to put forward an objectification of the waste sorting operator’s work activity, taking into account the specifics of this sector, in the prospect of a sustainable prevention. To do so, an analysis of the work activity, according to the ergonomics work analysis method (EWA) was conducted, complete by several confrontation tools used with workers, both individually and collectively. The results showed that waste sorting centres are production sites located in a specific territorial context. Workers have to manage the production while taking into account the limits of their technical system, faced with waste as a territorialized object. Waste comes from separate households’ collection and is brought in the centre for the purpose of being sorted. It has territorialized characteristics, depending on specific territorial economical and social factors. Additionally, political factors regarding choices in terms of waste collecting and sorting, factors related to the consumption pattern and households’ lifestyle on the territory, factors related to the morphological features of the territory, and related to territorial attractiveness are also considered. However, this dimension is not taken into account during both the waste sorting centres design phase and the implementation of prevention strategies. The national testing phase for an extension of waste sorting instructions that we contributed to led to, argue that a disconnection was taking place between the characteristics of the technical system and the characteristics of the territory. This disconnection may lead to work intensification, directly impacting work sustainability. These results allow us to put forward two directions for actions in prevention in order to contribute to the design of sustainable sorting work systems. The first aims to better identify the coordination between actors belonging to different decision-making levels: some internal stakeholders, within the sorting centres, and external actors, on a territorial scale. To achieve this goal, the field of ergonomics has been shifted to mobilize theoretical frameworks originating from other disciplinary approaches, as proximity economics. This shifting aims to better take into account the requirements of industrial realities, and to produce mechanisms mobilizing these actors to satisfy the need for an effective transformation of work situations. The second direction aspire to put forward recommendations for the design of technical and organizational plastic systems, i.e. systems which leave sufficient rooms of manoeuver, factor for operators’ health, and that make work systems more efficient. The contributions of this thesis lead to develop an approach of prevention « in connection » which articulate the essential requirements of a regulatory prevention, and the industrial realities of the productive organization, for which three requirements have been identified: (i) develop the prevention problem from the knowledge co-production with workers, (ii) articulate work and industrial performance requirements, (iii) including prevention into territorialized industrial projects

Full textPackaging food products, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics to store them and transport them has always been a necessity for humans, both as consumers and merchants. This study, which deals with both history and archeology, highlights the major role played by glass, in Provence, in the 18th and 19th centuries, as a packaging quality method. Since Antiquity, and until the present day, luxury products, fine wines, delicate olive oils, and perfumes have been protected and emphasized through their glass packaging. It is the ideal material because it has all of the necessary physical and chemical properties to become functional and aesthetic. When Provence set out, in the early decades of the 18th century, in merchant conquest of the seas, it had an economy based on the transformation of local or imported agricultural goods. The manufacture of packaging then saw a considerable rise in Provence tied to this economy. Glass containers were then exported throughout the world, by sea, thanks to the combined action of favorable factures: the international reputation of the port of Marseille as well as the technical progress tied to the adoption of a new energy source : coal extraction. Influenced by the example of other regions, both French and European, Provencal glassworks underwent a notable metamorphosis which led to the gradual abandonment of forest glasshouse for port locations. Written and iconographic sources constitute a large part of our documentation supplemented by field sources. These are mainly tied to the discovery and recent study of shipwrecks as well as the survey of a diversified archeological inventory, derived from public and private collections

Full textThe requirements in terms of quality and safety during the processing and distribution of food products require the use of suitable packaging to prevent their degradation and extend their shelf life as well as to preserve their organoleptic qualities while respecting safety and ecological constraints. However, currently, most of these packagings are made from oil-based plastic which has defective consequences on waste generation and ecosystem pollution. One approach to overcome this issue is to replace conventional plastics with bio-based materials which can be produced from natural substances and degraded in nature. Among the various existing biopolymers, chitosan appears to be a good candidate due to its known antimicrobial and filmforming properties which are favorable for packaging purposes. However, the mechanical properties of chitosan-based plastic films are not sufficient and it is often necessary to add other components such as cellulose to them to improve their mechanical properties. Moreover, recently it has also been described that the utilization of these biopolymers in their nanoforms could greatly enhance their properties. However, the extraction of these biopolymers and their transformation into nanomaterials involve procedures that do not always comply with the principles of green chemistry and processes. In this work, we propose the development of ecological protocols based on microwaves and ultrasound to produce nanocellulose from bacterial cellulose as well as chitosan from chitin. Furthermore, we prepared bioplastic films from chitosan and cellulose and evaluated the properties of the film when using nanoforms of these polymers. To improve the water resistanceof the film, emulsions with beeswax were prepared and the impact of their formulations on the properties of the film was studied. Finally, the impact dynamics of the droplets of the latter formulation was evaluated to study the potentiality of its use for application by spraying
