Abstract:
For thousands of years, pastoralism was the primary economic resource of millions of people, and today it is one of the major activities in many rural communities. This case study uses Elin Ostrom's (2009) eight principles to analyse the impact of the Kyrgyz pasture law on nomadic communities and promote sustainable and equitable management of livestock and pastures. The results show that the pasture-user unions have contributed significantly to the good governance of common-pasture resources, the improvement of the condition of pasture users and the reduction of pasture degradation (0.75±0.09). However, the case study also reveals that there is a need to enhance the use of remote pastures, to improve rotation plans, to ameliorate the monitoring and assessment mechanism (0.65±0.10) and to increase animal health conditions. To further improve pastoral livelihoods, relevant authorities and institutional stakeholders should make increased efforts to ameliorate governance (0.55±0.11) and trust among pasture users, pasture-committee members, veterinarians and local and national institutions.

Abstract:
The church is an organizational organization that takes the interests of various church elites and parties to become a competition arena for local political elites. Thus, the elite church became the target of political elites and academics who wanted to seize power. This condition is evident, in various political constellations, religious organizations are laden with political contracts. Involve church elites in political momentum, there is support and response. This research explains how church elites compete on the political front and the views of church members of the church involved in politics. The methodology used is descriptive qualitative by determining informants using a purposive technique, in which the informants are determined based on their capacity to answer questions that are the locus of this study. The informants in the study were 13 people. The research location is in North Halmahera Regency. The results of the research show that political momentum contains political views and interests, thus giving permission to the church split (GMIH). The church elite (pastor) with its theological mission transformed into a practical political mission, the community (congregation) was educated with the political education of race, ethnicity, and religion which was then considered as the truth that all levels of society must accept.

Abstract:
Elie Bertrand (1713-1797) was a Swiss pastor/naturalist whose geological writings are illustrative of the growth of eighteenth-century natural history. Describing, cataloguing, and classifying formed the core of his work, but he also proposed theoretical analyses based on observations in the field. Bertrand's intellectual roots included Cartesian rationalism, British natural theology, and the Linnacan system of classification. Trained as a theologian. Bertrand viewed the physical world as a proving ground for showing God's Wise Design in nature. He was also committed to empiricism, and repeatedly called for expanding the base of geological knowledge.Several of the published products of Bertrand's attempts to understand the natural world were brought together in the 1766 Recueil de divers traités sur l'histoire naturelle. By briefly considering each of the incorporated papers, it is possible to recognize the topics which interested eighteenth-century naturalists and to develop insight into the methodologies they used. In the Recueil we see Bertrand's eclectic epistemology attempt to deal with such topics as the interior of the earth, earthquakes, fossils, and the origin and Providential use of mountains.Celebrated in his day, Bertrand was a correspondent of Voltaire, a counselor to the Polish court, and a member of numerous learned societies. He published articles in the French Encyclopédic, and his 1763 Dictionnaire universal des fossiles was among the most-read scientific books of the century. The obscurity which enveloped Elie Bertrand seems related in large part to the fact that he was an accumulator of data and a commentator about past theories, rather than an innovator of new concepts. As the natural theology that undergirded his writing became obsolete, the cogency of his arguments diminished. In the context of his time, however, Bertrand is an instructive example of how geoscience matured during what has been termed a sterile period in the development of natural history.

Abstract:
Abstract BACKGROUND: In early-stage triple negative breast cancer (TNBC), the addition of carboplatin (CBDCA) to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (CT) increases pathologic complete response (pCR) and relapsed-free survival. However, it is unclear whether CBDCA improves overall survival (OS). In addition, the prognostic and/or predictive role of pathogenic germline variants (PGV) in BRCA1/2 genes and other cancer risk in this setting is not fully understood. Here, we assessed the efficacy of (neo)adjuvant CBDCA and the prognostic and predictive role of a panel of 14 genes in patients (pts) with eTNBC. METHODS: This is a retrospective study on 117 pts diagnosed with early-stage TNBC between 2000-2021 at Hospital Clinic of Barcelona. Eighty-one pts (69%) were candidates for PGV testing. Overall, 14 genes (PGV) (BRCA1, BRCA2, PALB2, BRIP1, CHEK2, TP53, ATM, RAD51C, RAD51D, BARD1, MLH1, MSH2, MSH6 and PMS2) were assessed using the TruSight hereditary cancer panel (Illumina MySeq platform) according to local guidelines. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression and Cox regression analyses were performed to identify clinical and molecular predictors of pCR and relapse-free survival (RFS), respectively. Chi-squared or Fisher’s exact tests were used to assess characteristics’ distribution as appropriate. RESULTS: Of 117 pts, 83 (71%) received CT in the neoadjuvant setting and 28 (24%) in the adjuvant setting. CBDCA was added to standard CT in 68 pts (82%) in the neoadjuvant cohort and 7 pts (6%) in the adjuvant cohort. Among pts with germline testing, 32/81 (39%) harbored PGV. BRCA1 was the most frequently mutated gene (18/32, 56%), followed by BRCA2 (5/32, 16%), PALB2 (4/32, 13%), BRIP1 (2/32, 6%), CHEK2, TP53 and PMS2 (3/32, 6%). Percentages of pts receiving CBDCA were similar between patients with and without PGV (14/16,87% and wild type (53/67,79%)(p=0.120). In the neoadjuvant cohort (n=83), CBDCA was the only variable significantly associated with pCR at both univariate (pCR rates of 58.5% with CBCDA and 14.3% without CBCDA; odds ratio [OR]=8.2 [95% CIs 2.0-55.7], p=0.008) and remained statistically significant after adjusting for PGV, tumor size and nodal status (OR=6.9 [95% CIs 1.4-53.0], p=0.028). pCR rates according to PGV are reported in Table 1. In terms of RFS, addition of CBDCA to neoadjuvant therapy (hazard ratio [HR]=0.2 [0.1-0.45], p< 0.001), PGV (HR=0.2 [0.05-0.9], p=0.048), pCR (HR=0.2 [0.1-0.6], p=0.004) and nodal status (HR=5.1 [1.7-15.2], p< 0.003) were significantly associated with RFS in univariate analyses. In a multivariable model, CBDCA remained an independent predictor of improved RFS along with pCR. When the neoadjuvant and adjuvant cohort were pooled together (n=117), platinum-based CT remained significantly associated with better RFS (HR=0.2 [0.14-0.86], p=0.021) regardless of time of administration (i.e., neoadjuvant or adjuvant). With a median follow-up of 5 years, CBCDA use was not found associated with OS (HR=0.7 [0.3-1.8], p= 0.560). CONCLUSIONS: The addition of CBDCA to standard CT was significantly associated with pCR and RFS but not OS, consistent with the phase III data. The benefit in terms of RFS was independent of the presence and the type of pathogenic germline alterations. Abstract:
Abstract Background The risk of invasive extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli disease (IED) increases with age and can lead to severe outcomes, including sepsis and death. Aim To describe the clinical outcomes of IED in older adults in the United States (US). Methods The Premier Healthcare Database (10/01/2015-03/31/2020) was used to identify IED encounters among patients ≥ 60 years old. The index encounter was defined as the first encounter with a positive E. coli culture in a normally sterile body site (Group 1) or a positive E. coli culture in urine with signs of sepsis (Group 2), in the absence of other pathogens. Outcomes included medical resource utilization, antibiotic use, IED recurrence, and in-hospital death, and were descriptively reported during the index encounter and over the subsequent year. Results Overall, 19,773 patients with IED were included (mean age: 76.8 years; 67.4% female; 82.1% white). Approximately half of index encounters were from Group 1 (51.8%), and the vast majority of patients had community-onset IED (94.3%). Most index encounters led to inpatient hospitalization (96.5%; mean duration: 6.9 days) and 32.4% required transfer to an intensive care unit (mean duration: 3.7 days). During the index encounter, patients received a mean [SD] of 2.9 [1.4] antibiotic agents, and 30.1% received ≥ 4 agents. The 3 most prevalent antibiotics received were ceftriaxone (66.2%), vancomycin (36.3%), and piperacillin (35.0%; Fig 1). The majority of E. coli isolates showed resistance to ≥ 1 antibiotic category (61.7%), and 34.4% were classified as multi-drug resistant (i.e., ≥ 3 categories). Following discharge, 34.8% of patients were transferred to a skilled nursing/intermediate care facility. In-hospital death reached 6.8% during the index encounter and increased to 10.9% 1-year post-index (Fig 2). One-year post-index, 2.4% of patients had an IED recurrence and 36.8% were readmitted to the hospital for any reason (Fig 3). Conclusion Our findings suggest that IED is a severe disease that is associated with substantial burden and far-reaching consequences beyond the initial encounter. These findings emphasize the need for increased awareness and surveillance of IED and its consequences and the potential benefit of preventative measures. Baruzzo, Enrico. "Pensiero e attività pastorale in Elia Dalla Costa." Doctoral thesis, Università degli studi di Padova, 2009. http://hdl.handle.net/11577/3425646.

Abstract:
In Conclave 1939 Eugenio Pacelli was elected pope and he took name of Pio XII. Although the diffusion of the idea about the unanimity of the choice between the cardinals of catholic Church, seems that a valid alternative in front of his election was represented by Elia Dalla Costa, archbishop of Florence and main personality in the catholic Italian Church during the central decades of the XX century. The present work analyses the lifetime and the pastoral action of this important person. Born in the 1872, Elia Dalla Costa was educated and lived his first pastoral expe-riences in the context of a Vicenza’s Church, where was strong the uncompromising Ca-tholicism. Since the 1911 to the 1923 he was parish priest in Schio, big industrial centre in Veneto, where he distinguished himself for the organization of local catholic movement and for the protection of population during the First World War. Elected bishop of Padua in 1923, he had to face very delicate matters, like the difficult management of diocese’s clergy and the problematic detachment from the “popolari” in the moment when the fascism was increasing. In the 1932 he was moved to Florence and in the 1933 he became cardinal. In Tuscany he distinguished himself like the reference for the other bishops of the region and he did an important organization of Florentine Church. During the Second World War he defended the population and the artistic treasures of town, and, in the post-war period, he engaged himself in the affirmation of the catholic ideas in the society and management of new pastoral problems. He died in the 1961. In this research an important role was held by the parish – meant, at the same time, like ecclesiastic area with a benefit and community of believers – because of its social incidence. Though the study of Visite pastorali, parish priest’s letters and reports was possible understanding the relapses of Dalla Costa’s government. For drawing up this work were examined documents which are in different arc-hives in Vicenza, Padua, Florence (places where Dalla Costa lived) and Rome. The sources are of different type: there are the documents of the Visite pastorali, deposited in Archivio della Curia Vescovile of Padua, the letters send by Dalla Costa to Rome at the Segreteria di Stato and the Congregazione Concistoriale, the reports of prefects and police about the action of this bishop.

Abstract Meeting Privately In 1641, a group of Massachusetts ministers addressed a proposition that ought to have occasioned no debate whatsoever: “that the assembly of elders have power over particular churches.” At length, the clergymen reaffirmed the long-standing principle of Congregational autonomy-that every church enjoyed “government within itself”-but not before pastor John Eliot of Roxbury offered a spirited justification for the binding authority of the collective elders. Eliot was not alone in his belief that a decade of New World experiences pointed to the need for stronger consociational authority in church government.

Strangely enough, however, the piece he sent Richards in advance of his visit was not from Pastoral, it was apparently an early draft of one of the essays that would be published several years later in The Structure of Complex Words. ‘William Empson . . . has just sent me the first draft of his new book—which I find intoxicatingly good,’ Richards wrote to T. S. Eliot. ‘A Dictionary article on the word Honest.

Abstract:
Abstract Leonard Bacon called it ‘‘the coup d’e´tat of 1854.’’ That year, the Prudential Committee of the A.B.C.F.M. delegated Rufus Anderson and the Reverend Augustus Thompson, a committee member and Anderson’s pastor at the Eliot Church in Roxbury, to visit the board’s missions in India and Sri Lanka. They hoped that in face-to-face meetings with the missionaries, Anderson and Thompson could resolve a number of thorny issues, the most pressing of which involved educational policy. That same year, the British government launched a major initiative to furnish grants in aid to missionary schools that offered advanced instruction in English. Their action gave added impetus to educational policies that were already two decades old, and missionaries who were feeling pressured by a growing demand for English-language instruction now rushed to take advantage of governmental largesse. A request from the Bombay Mission to open such an English high school provided the immediate occasion for sending the American Board deputation.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract It has itself become something of a clichê that Johnson’s best poetry finds its force in a renovation of cliché. The excellent criticism of T. S. Eliot and F. R. Leavisl was developed by Donald Davie in Purity of Diction in English Verse (1952), which showed that the metaphorical life in the poems of Johnson is often a matter of invigorating dead or flat metaphor, of using clichês so that their pristine force is recreated or so that they are seen in a new perspective. In The Vanity of Human Wishes, the defeated Xerxes ‘gains’ the sea——and that is all he does gain, the clichê sardonically intimates. In London, ‘Greenwich smiles upon the silver Flood’, not simply because this is a pastoral moment of ‘transient calm’, but because silver grimly refuses to stay put as just a pastoral word—in London ‘smiles are sold’. Such a use of metaphor is a corollary of Johnson’s convictions about life and literature. ‘What is new is opposed, because most are unwilling to be taught; and what is known is rejected, because it is not sufficiently considered, that men more fre quently require to be reminded than informed’ (The Rambler, No. 2, 24 March 1750). If this begins by recognising the role of those who proclaim the new, its ‘tonclusion reveals that Johnson’s own heart was more in the latter duty, of ‘reminding’ men.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
