Abstract:
Solid-State Transformer (SST), a power electronics based transformer is an emerging technology in electric power system. The transformer is being investigated to completely replace existing Line/Low Frequency Transformer (LFT). SST is composed of either of the two topologies: AC-DC-AC, two steps approach; or AC-AC, single-step approach. The two steps approach consists of three stages: AC-DC; DC-DC; and DC-AC stages. The DC-DC stage is made up of a boost DC-DC converter, a DC-AC inverter and a High Frequency Transformer, HFT. Therefore, SST performs the tasks of LFT by means of power electronic converters and HFT. The main essence of SST is to provide solution to the problem of bulkiness and heaviness of the LFT in the power distribution network. This is with the view to providing reduction in construction cost, cost of maintenance and transportation. The power electronics transformer provides numerous advantages which are grouped into: The transformer has high power density; it functions in blackouts and brownouts; and it provides easy means of distributed renewable energy integration into associated grid. Therefore, this paper provides a glance into the technology of the SST for its better understating and promotion of research activities in the area.

Abstract:
With the growing fleet of a new generation electric vehicles (EVs), it is essential to develop an adequate high power charging infrastructure that can mimic conventional gasoline fuel stations. Therefore, much research attention must be focused on the development of off-board DC fast chargers which can quickly replenish the charge in an EV battery. However, use of the service transformer in the existing fast charging architecture adds to the system cost, size and complicates the installation process while directly connected to medium-voltage (MV) line. With continual improvements in power electronics and magnetics, solid state transformer (SST) technology can be adopted to enhance power density and efficiency of the system. This paper aims to review the current state of the art architectures and challenges of fast charging infrastructure using SST technology while directly connected to the MV line. Finally, this paper discusses technical considerations, challenges and introduces future research possibilities.

Abstract:
In this paper I question the likely development trajectory of electric vehicle (EV) manufacture and related advanced-transportation systems in Southern California. The large base of labor skills, technical expertise, and research and development organizations that are found in the region in the aerospace, electronics, and metalworking industries provide a solid foundation for the EV industry. These sectors also provide a legacy of industrial organization that is oriented more towards flexible production than mass production. The technological immaturity of the EV and the uncertain market it faces, combined with the existing industrial atmosphere in Southern California, suggest that early production of EVs will be organized flexibly in an industrial district uniting firms and technologies in the production of components for an advanced ground-transportation industry.

Abstract Aging is linked to an increased risk of disability. Disabilities that limit major life activities such as seeing, walking, and motor skills impact a person’s ability to drive a car. Low utilization of alternative transportation by older adults may put them at risk for social isolation. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate how community-based participatory research (CBPR) was used to engage older residents in the development of alternative transportation options in a metropolitan county in the Midwestern U.S. Older residents worked as co-investigators to develop, use and evaluate alternative transportation options including walking, biking, fixed route busing, senior circulator, ride sharing, and transit training. Data were collected through mapping the built environment, an electronic daily transportation diary app called “MyAmble” on tablets, walk audits and focus groups. CBPR approaches led by interdisciplinary teams resulted in community engagement and more equitable strategies for transportation planning and utilization.

Abstract:
New Mexico is among the first states in the United States to develop, implement, and deploy contactless, smart card technology in a rural area. The Alliance for Transportation Research Institute, working with the New Mexico Department of Transportation's Public Transportation Programs Bureau, developed the Intelligent, Coordinated Transit (ICTransit) smart card technology and the Client, Referral, Ridership, and Financial Tracking (CRRAFT) software. The U.S. Department of Transportation's FTA–FHWA Joint Program Office provided federal funding for the project. The ICTransit smart card functions as a universal use electronic fare card, enabling passengers to transfer between transit providers to access jobs, education, and health care beyond their local rural communities. ICTransit's Global Positioning System receiver and Pocket PC capture the time and location that passengers board and exit the vehicle and the passenger miles traveled on the vehicle. The CRRAFT software system for express scheduling, automatic generation of monthly financial reports, and onboard tracking of ridership provides increased efficiency in rural areas. The ICTransit system with CRRAFT can overcome barriers to coordinated interagency transportation and provide increased access and mobility to all, but especially to those underserved by public transportation. ICTransit with CRRAFT can empower states to build coordinated transportation networks that provide safe and seamless movement of people and enhance the quality of life.

Abstract:
In the past few years, tools have been developed based on different communication means with the purpose of achieving a safer, more efficient, and environment-friendly operation of vehicular flows in the transport systems. Some of the early means generally involved a very strong human participation. In the course of time and with the rapid progress made in electronics, telecommunications, and computer systems, such processes have become automated until generating a series of technologies that currently are incorporated into the single generic term of intelligent transportation systems (ITS). This research has multiple purposes. First, some characteristics of road freight transport in Mexico are presented. Then, with such characteristics under consideration, the ITS technologies with the largest potential for application to that transportation type are described. A vision of future implementation is shown. Finally, some conclusions are presented.

Abstract:
With the need for more environmentally friendly transportation and the wide deployment of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations have become a major issue for car manufacturers and a real challenge for researchers all over the world. Indeed, the high cost of battery energy storage, the limited EV autonomy and battery lifespan, the battery charging time, the deployment cost of a fast charging infrastructure, and the significant impact on the power grid are the origin of several research projects focused on advanced power electronics topologies and the optimization of the EV charging stations in terms of power transfer and geographical location. Three charging levels can be distinguished, which differ in terms of output power and charging time. The higher the level of charging, the faster the charging process, as more power is delivered to the vehicle at the expense of power quality issues and disturbances. Moreover, three types of charging systems can be distinguished, which are inductive recharging (contactless power transfer), conductive charging systems, and battery swapping. Additionally, EVs encompass fuel cell (FC) EVs, which uses hydrogen as primary energy resources, which is nowadays under extensive research activities in academia and industry. This review paper aims at presenting a state of the art review of major advances in power electronics architectures for EVs traction drives, and battery-based EVs charging stations. Specifically, the focus is made on light-duty electric vehicles drivetrain power electronics and charging stations specifications, the proposed power electronics solutions, the advantages and drawbacks of all these technologies, and perspectives for future research works in terms of smart EV charging and up-to-date solutions for power system disturbances mitigation.

Abstract:
The issue of the presence of online transportation is used as the right momentum to steal the government’s attention to discuss it on the policy agenda. The role of policy actors is a critical element in the process of forming innovation policies to disrupt the transportation sector. Multi-policy actors, such as governments, citizens, entrepreneurs, and investors, can jointly influence the development of innovation policies that disrupt the transportation sector (Han, 2022). It will be interesting to analyze the role of policy actors in online transportation problems using the multiple stream analysis approach. This study aims to identify the direction policy actors’ play in policy-making by the desired orientation. This research method uses qualitative analysis. Following the multiple streams framework (MSF) flow, we use content analysis to support qualitative analysis. NVivo 12 Plus application support also plays a vital role in collecting data from reputable electronic news media. This study finds that the direction of online transportation policy has not fully fulfilled the interests of online transportation company actors and conventional transportation. The tug of war interests makes policies constantly change. Policies that regulate online transportation are still adjusting to the state of the domestic transportation market. Although this research has answered the research objectives, our paper can still not fully explain the problem of online transportation at the district and city levels. Based on these limitations, we recommend that further research can identify issues at the district and city levels.

Abstract:
Assumptions that have been made about the impact of electronic shopping, like teleshopping and electronic commerce (e-commerce), on physical transportation have largely forecast considerable substitution effects. However, empirical evidence has been missing. To fill this gap, research was carried out in the Stuttgart region in southwest Germany to assess potential traffic substitution on the regional level in a midterm perspective of 10 years. The assessment is based on a model that deduces the traffic substitution potential from the behavior of the consumer who chooses alternatively physical or virtual shopping places depending on the commodity he or she needs or wants. The commodity not only is crucial for the choice of the shopping place and the frequency of purchases, but it is also important for the choice of the means of transportation or alternative shopping via Internet. The model that underlies this research comprises four steps. First, surveys are compiled on shopping behavior and transportation behavior for shopping purposes. The second step provides the deduction of groups with similar behavior regarding travel, affinity for e-commerce, and shopping. This leads to hypotheses about e-commerce potential within the research area and allows the assessment of substitution effects by comparing the status quo with the scenario constructed by the empirical data. Regarding the impact of e-commerce on transportation, the results promise only slight reductions of clearly less than 10% of total shopping transportation caused by consumers.

Abstract:
Wireless charging modules for electric vehicles are being increasingly studied. Previous research has focused on developing more effective wireless-charging modules for electric vehicles in order to pave the way for a more sustainable urban transportation. The objectives of the study were to identify the social structure of the field by mapping of research collaborations among authors and countries, measure the influence of authors and sources, identify the interactions between different researchers and the most influential authors, sources, documents and organizations. To achieve these objectives, a bibliometric search in the SCOPUS database was conducted using a combination of keywords and Boolean operators. The initial keyword search returned 2163 documents. The documents retrieved were manually filtered for further analysis. A scientometric analysis was carried out on the remaining 1367 documents using co-authorship, co-citation, and citation analyses for a number of measurement units. The results showed that “object detection” and “shielding effectiveness” were the most current research topics. Authors who were widely cited did not generally produce a large number of papers or collaborate with other authors. Authors from China, the United States, and the United Kingdom have all co-authored published works on the topic, indicating that they have all contributed considerably to the field’s achievements. This strongly highlighted the amount of funding localized in developed countries towards such technologies. The number of international co-authored studies conducted was low. This is most significant with no research conducted in this field in the less developed world. The most cited and influential scholars were G. A. Covic, J. T. Boys, and C. C. Mi. The most influential sources were IEEE Trans. on Power Electronics and IEEE Trans. on Induction Electronics, while the most productive sources were Energies and IEEE Access. The most influential documents were those by Covic G.A. (2013a) and Covic G.A. (2013b). Finally, emerging trends in charging and energy storage in electric vehicles were also discussed.

On this basis, an improved algorithm for vehicle detection based on Faster R-CNN is proposed, and the Faster R-CNN network feature extraction layer is improved by using the principle of residual network, and a hole convolution is added to the network to filter out the redundant features of high-resolution video images to improve the problem of vehicle missed detection in the original algorithm. The experimental results show that the key frame extraction technology combined with the optimized Faster R-CNN algorithm model greatly improves the accuracy of detection and reduces the leakage. The detection rate is satisfactory.

Abstract:
With the rapid progress of artificial intelligence, humans are moving toward the era of the intelligent connection of all things. Therefore, the demand for sensors is drastically increasing with developing intelligent social applications. Traditional sensors must be triggered by an external power source and the energy consumption is high for equipment that is widely distributed and working intermittently, which is not conducive to developing sustainable green and healthy applications. However, self-powered sensors based on triboelectric nanogenerators (TENG) can autonomously harvest energy from the surrounding environment and convert this energy into electrical energy for storage. Sensors can also be self-powered without an external power supply, which is vital for smart cities, smart homes, smart transportation, environmental monitoring, wearable devices, and bio-medicine. This review mainly summarizes the working mechanism of TENG and the research progress of self-powered sensors based on TENG about the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, human–computer interaction, and intelligent medical fields in recent years.

Abstract:
From a global perspective, carbon emissions are a global problem that needs to be solved urgently. At present, 61% of countries have committed to achieving net zero emissions. Compared with industry and construction, the transportation sector has become the focus and challenge for countries to achieve carbon neutrality due to the characteristics of strong mobility, scattered emission sources, and complex social behaviors. Therefore, the issue of carbon emissions in the transportation industry has become the focus of academic attention. This paper first calculates the carbon emission efficiency (CEE) of the regional transportation industry through the super-efficiency SBM model and then evaluates its regional differentiation characteristics through the Theil index, which has important practical significance for reducing regional carbon emissions. The results show that the national transportation CEE average value is 0.612, a relatively low level. The spatial distribution of China’s transportation CEE shows an obvious characteristic of “east highest and west lowest”. The regional differences in the transportation industry CEE are larger than those between regions. The differences in the transportation industry CEE among the eastern, central, and western regions are on the downward trend as a whole, and intra-regional differences are greater than inter-regional. The intra-regional differences cause the overall differences in transportation industry CEE; the eastern region contributed the most to the Theil index, while the central contributed the least. The biggest factor affecting the transportation industry CEE is the regional energy structure, and the smallest factor is the per capita GDP. This research has important reference significance on the target of carbon neutrality.

Advanced vehicle identification technologies can enhance national security and the security of transportation facilities, workers, and customers by preventing unauthorized vehicles from entering a transportation facility, border crossing, or parking area. Manual checks are time-consuming–-license plates must be checked against authorized plates, and the identities of workers and travelers confirmed. Advanced vehicle identification technologies allow faster access for authorized vehicles, reduce the possibility of fraud and error, and permit security personnel to spend more time in evaluating unknown vehicles and persons. This paper discusses several advanced vehicle identification technologies–- automated license plate recognition, vehicle-based identification, and electronic vehicle identification systems–-and their applicability in localized access control and in national security situations. The technologies’ features, costs, accuracy, and feasibility are discussed, and recommendations for further research are provided.

Abstract:
243 Background: This quality improvement project takes place within a large hospital, on a team that manages about 1700 oncology discharges per year. The hospital emphasizes the importance of discharging patients early in the day to encourage more efficient patient flow. On advanced medicine units within the hospital, 19% of discharge delays were reported as stemming from transportation issues related to family being delayed. Methods: A multidisciplinary group utilized a ride share company to implement a HIPPA compliant transportation program. Upon admission, each patient was screened for potential transportation barriers by a coordinator. Patients outside of a 35-mile drive from the hospital were excluded. Patients who expressed a concern about reliable transportation were offered enrollment. The patient completed a consent form, agreeing to be texted by the company with logistical information about their ride. At the end of the patient’s stay, the coordinator scheduled a “will call” ride within the vendor’s electronic system, which could then be activated by the patient via phone upon discharge. The coordinator tracked each patient’s barriers along with an estimated number of hours saved. Results: The average time saved per patient was 5.3 hours and, at peak, the average number of rides per month was 36. The estimated additional capacity created was 7.2 patients annually. About 14% of transportation barrier screenings resulted in a ride being scheduled. Of the patients that declined, 53% preferred to travel with family or friends, 28% were excluded due to distance, 10% were too ill to utilize the service, and 8% declined for other reasons. Conclusions: The intervention provided clear value to the institution and the patient, and the organization is now exploring a system-wide ride share transportation program. The team identified an untapped opportunity in using the program for admissions. Suggested patient populations for expansion include patients leaving the Emergency Department, those with fairly predictable lengths of stay, such as gastrointestinal surgery patients, and populations of relatively lower acuity since they are more likely to be well enough to get into their home without assistance. Abstract:
Power electronics play a fundamental role for electric transportation, renewable energy conversion and many other industrial applications. They have the ability to help achieve high efficiency and performance in power systems. However, traditional inverters such as voltage source and current source inverters present some limitations. Consequently, many research efforts have been focused on developing new power electronics converters suitable for many applications. Compared with the conventional two-stage inverter, Z-source inverter (ZSI) is a single-stage converter with lower design cost and high efficiency. It is a power electronics circuit of which the function is to convert DC input voltage to a symmetrical AC output voltage of desired magnitude and frequency. Recently, ZSIs have been widely used as a replacement for conventional two-stage inverters in the distributed generation systems. Several modifications have been carried out on ZSI to improve its performance and efficiency. This paper reviews the-state-of-art impedance source inverter main topologies and points out their applications for multisource electric vehicles. A concise review of main existing topologies is presented. The basic structural differences, advantages and limitations of each topology are illustrated. From this state-of-the-art review of impedance source inverters, the embedded quasi-Z-source inverter presents one of the promising architectures which can be used in multisource electric vehicles, with better performance and reliability. The utilization of this new topology will open the door to several development axes, with great impact on electric vehicles (EVs).

Abstract:
The transportation sector is by far the largest oil consumer making it a prime contributor to air pollution. EVs (Electric vehicles) will be beneficial to the environment and will help to alleviate the energy crisis due to their low dependence on oil and negligible emissions. Technology innovation in EVs is of significant interest to researchers, companies, and policy-makers in many countries. EVs integrate various kinds of distinct technologies where some of the important factors in considerations related to EVs are: a wide range of electrical drive configurations; advanced electronics that enable automotive innovations; meeting the challenges of automotive electronics; electrifying transportation in the future. This paper reviews the recent progress in EV technology, which consists of various motor drives applied in EV propulsion, classification of EVs such as BEV, PHEV, HEV, FCEV, and types of energy storage system with chargers, and software simulating devices. This paper also highlights the EV market with various challenges. The main findings of this research are: (1) Battery technology is the EV's bottleneck. Lithium-ion batteries for vehicles have high capacity and large serial-parallel numbers, which, coupled with problems such as safety, durability, uniformity, and cost, impose limitations on the wide application. (2) Incentives and encouragement for EV owners should be tailored to their specific needs in order to improve their socioeconomic standing. (3) Hyundai, MG Motors, Tesla, and Tata Motors appear to be the key players in India's critical subdomains of the EV market. (4) EV simulation software is necessary for vehicle design and development before the mass production of EVs. (5) PMSM has the potential to provide a high torque-to-current ratio, a high power-to-weight ratio, high efficiency, and robustness. Currently, the BLDC (Trapezoidal SPMSM) motors are the most preferred motors for electric vehicle applications due to their traction characteristics.

Abstract:
Purpose This research proposes ideal interaction patterns for structural dimensions (buyer and supplier representatives involved in the interaction and buyer and supplier critical capabilities) for transport service outsourcing. The purpose of this paper is to establish whether those ideal interaction patterns are determinants of success of the interaction. In this paper, the latter is measured against the corresponding process success and outcome success. Design/methodology/approach This paper proposes a conceptual model based on the prior literature and adapted to this specific case of transport services. The proposed model is approached using the partial least squares simultaneous equation models. For this, the result of a survey to senior management at European machinery, electronics and automotive sector manufacturing plants has been used. Findings When companies possess the proposed ideal patterns for the structural dimensions, this brings with it positive effects on both the process success and the outcome success obtained by the outsourcing plant. Therefore, buyer-supplier relationships have been recognized to play a key role in the outcomes of this interaction and that the design and management of interfaces between companies and their logistics providers are critical. Practical implications Managers can use the present research findings to produce an appropriate interaction design that includes the representatives and capabilities required to make transport service outsourcing a success. Originality/value This paper contributes to the literature on transport research by specifically establishing ideal interaction patterns for the structural dimensions that buyer and supplier’s companies need to consider for achieving successful transport services outsourcing. Besides, the present research proposes a multidimensional measure of outcome success that combines major strategic, operational and financial outputs. Finally, this research represents the first survey-based empirical evidence on the topic, having used a sample of 93 plants belonging to many different companies in five European countries.

Negative impacts from the dominant use of petroleum-based transportation have propelled the globe towards electrified transportation. With this thrust, many technological challenges are being encountered and addressed, one of which is the development and availability of fast-charging technologies. To compete with petroleum-based transportation, electric vehicle (EV) battery charging times need to decrease to the 5–10 min range. This paper provides a review of EV fast-charging technologies and the impacts on the battery systems, including heat management and associated limitations. In addition, the paper presents promising new approaches and opportunities for power electronic converter topologies and systems level research to advance the state-of-the-art in fast-charging.

Abstract:
The purpose of the present research was to gain insight into the public perception of existing transportation options and to then explore consumers' needs and wants of those systems and the likely acceptance of possible intelligent transportation system (ITS) initiatives. The selected ITS concepts were based on nationally defined user needs for ITSs. Focus groups were selected as the means of gathering this primary research conducted throughout the state of California. Two perspectives were studied: statewide, to gain broad insights, and smart card specific, for focused insight. There was conspicuous agreement throughout the state as to the feelings about existing transportation systems. Californians are angry that they have not been consulted about their transportation system and that its current state does not reflect their wishes and does not meet their needs. Consumers are open to ITS concepts, including information systems, alternative fuel-powered vehicles, and other high-technology improvements. They support improvements in the automobile system and useful public transportation. Convenience, safety, freedom, flexibility, and control in planning and executing their travel are what they expect within an integrated transportation system. Much is written about the cost-effectiveness of buses. The reality is that the majority of the people will never use public transit in its current state. Electronic fare payment systems were seen as the ultimate in convenience for current users. Integrated fare systems were considered a tool for beginning the improvement of public transportation for existing users and for breaking down barriers of confusion and the lack of connectivity to attract new users.

Abstract:
Electric vehicles (EVs) are an alternative to internal combustion engine (ICE) cars, as they can reduce the environmental impact of transportation. The bottleneck for EVs is the high-voltage battery pack, which utilizes most of the space and increases the weight of the vehicle. Currently, the main challenge for the electronics industry is the cell equalization of the battery pack. This paper gives an overview of the research works related to battery equalizer circuits (BECs) used in EV applications. Several simulations were carried out for the main BEC topologies with the same initial conditions. The results obtained were used to perform a quantitative analysis between these schemes. Moreover, this review highlights important issues, challenges, variables and parameters associated with the battery pack equalizers and provides recommendations for future investigations. We think that this work will lead to an increase in efforts on the development of an advanced BEC for EV applications.
