Abstract:
In the Waterworks Bureau, the activated carbon has been used for filtering water. After the life service of activated carbon, it is normally disposed. This work focuses on the processing of a composite material in order to recycle these wasted carbon particles. These activated carbons were used for the filler of composite materials, and a composite with carbon contents of 10% ~ 60% was manufactured and characterized. They exhibited electroconductive behavior because of the carbon particles used as fillers. The electroconductivity have an intimate relationship with the strain of the material. However, because of the composite viscoelasticity, the electroconductivity presented changes by their stress relaxation behavior with the same strain. In this study, it was revealed the relationship between the viscoelasticity and the electroconductivity of recycled activated carbon composites.

Abstract:
This paper investigates ionized gas flow in the boundary layer when its electroconductivity is varied. The flow is planar and the contour is porous. At first, it is assumed that the ionized gas electroconductivity ? depends only on the longitudinal variable. Then we adopt that it is a function of the ratio of the longitudinal velocity and the velocity at the outer edge of the boundary layer. For both electroconductivity variation laws, by application of the general similarity method, the governing boundary layer equations are brought to a generalized form and numerically solved in a four-parametric three times localized approximation. Based on many tabular solutions, we have shown diagrams of the most important nondimensional values and characteristic boundary layer functions for both of the assumed laws. Finally, some conclusions about influence of certain physical values on ionized gas flow in the boundary layer have been drawn. .

Abstract:
An analytic dynamic coefficient of electroconductivity σ(ω) and electroelasticity modulus ε(ω) for ionic liquids is obtained from the kinetic equations for one- and two-particle distribution functions. These expressions include both structural and translational relaxation processes which proceed in the ionic liquids. An asymptotic behavior of σ(ω) and corresponding ∊(ω) at low and high frequencies is considered. It is shown that the obtained results for electroconductivity allow us to investigate dielectric properties of ionic liquids.

Abstract:
Five alfalfa varieties were planted and grown under grower conditions on a field section that had high conductivity, while two varieties were planted and grown on a section of the same field much less affected. CUF 101, the variety grown in both areas, was the highest yielding variety in both area. Reduction in CUF 101 hay yield due to high conductivity was approximately one ton/acre in the first year of production, with a large amount of this noted in the first cutting. Yield reductions of CUF 101 due to field area and associated electroconductivity were greater the second year, with an average of 0.29 tons/acre/cutting. Total yield difference for CUF 101 was 1.72 tons/acre for the eight harvests for which data were available. Yield differences between the areas was greatest in the early spring and late fall of the first harvest year, with differences not noted in the June cutting; in year two yield differences were approximately 37% for each cutting. Salado was the second highest yielding variety in the high electroconductivity area in 1998, and equaled CUF 101 in yield from this area in 1999. Sal-T-96 and Leivas Best yielded less than 90% of CUF 101. Sal-T-96 also had the greatest number of weeds, due in part to very slow germination and fewer plants per acre compared with other varieties.

Thesis for submitting a Technical science candidate degree on specialty 05. 16. 04 – Foundry production.- Physico-technological Institute of Metals and Alloys of NAS of Ukraine, Kiyv, 2003. This thesis describes the development of melting and treatment for the smelt of secondary copper for the manufacturing bars with 55 Siemens conductance and more using the horizontal continuous casting. The thesis proposes a new technology for the production of a cable-conductor product from secondary copper based on horizontal continuous casting that consists of 4 stages namely: - melting secondary copper with an exposed mirror of metal (copper includes less than 0,15% of oxygen); - flux melting metal (flux consists of: soda, quarts sand, borax (1:4,5:4,5)), the results of copper includes less than 0,05% of oxygen; - the treatment of molten copper by argon and then deoxidizing by an alloy of “lithium-calcium” composition (50% per lach), the results of copper have density of 8940 kg/m3, 58 Siemens electroconductivity (then flow raze of argon then being 0,8 m3/t copper); - horizontal continuous casting with the following parameters: - velocity of casting – 0,48 m/min; - space for drawing – 40 mm; - time for drawing – 4 – 6 s; - time for pause – 5 - 6 s; - the angle of mould inclination to horizon – 15 O. The horizontal continuous casting has been shown to offer many advantages over wirebarce casting. The basic results of the work have found industrial implementation into the melting and treatment of secondary copper.

Abstract:
Today’s intensified agricultural production is characterized by crop and pasture monocultures, which have a significant impact on soil microbial diversity and abundance. This chapter provides a case study in which the relative importance of brome grass (Bromus inermis) monoculture pasture versus intra-site microhabitat diversity is explored using fatty acid methyl ester (FAMEs) assay to delineate the presence and abundance of several classes of soil microbes instrumental in soil nutrient cycling, plant health, plant organic matter decomposition, and soil stabilization. The chapter explores spatio-temporal variability of bacteria, actinomycetes, saprophytes, mycorrhizae, and micro-eukaryotes over two durations (summer and fall) collected using two distinct sampling methods. One of the methods is commonly employed, namely, transect-based, while the other is informed by soil electroconductivity measurements conducted over the entire pasture site from a previous survey.

Abstract:
Chloroform and trichloroethene (TCE) are two organic contaminants commonly encountered in ground water. TCE, formerly a common cleaning solvent, is usually associated with contaminated aquifers. Chloroform is usually associated with the chlorination of municipal water. The remediation level for TCE in aquifers is typically 5 ppb, therefore, the analytical method employed for monitoring these analytes must be capable of detecting and quantifying the analytes in the low ppb concentration range. The most common analytical methodology for the determination of TCE or chloroform in water is a purge and trap technique for sample introduction into a gas chromatographic system equipped with electroconductivity or mass spectroscopy detector. The instrumentation has a method limit of detection (LOD) of less than 0.5 ppb for TCE and chloroform, however, the expense, size and complexity of the gas chromatographic techniques limit its use outside the laboratory environment. An alternative to the gas chromatographic method for the analysis of select volatile chlorinated compounds in the low concentration range is an analytical instrument based on a halocarbon-specific optrode. The principle of detection is a quantitative, irreversible chemical reaction (modified Fujiwara reaction) that forms visible light-absorbing products. The operational basis of the optrode is the measure of the time history of the development of the colored (red) product formed by the reaction of the target analytes. The optrode has the selectivity and sensitivity for monitoring TCE and chloroform at the low ppb concentration range in the presence of other volatile chlorinated contaminants. The low-power requirements and simplicity of design make it a good choice for remote operations. This paper presents the analytical results (January 2002, to December 2002) of a panel-mounted instrument used to monitor the influent and effluent water of a TCE treatment facility located in Scottsdale, Arizona, and the analytical results of a well-mounted instrument used to monitor ground water (May 2002, to August 2002) at Edwards Air Force Base, California.
