Abstract:
Ferroelectric materials are characterized by a permanent electric dipole that can be reversed through the application of an external voltage, but a strong intrinsic coupling between polarization and deformation also causes all ferroelectrics to be piezoelectric, leading to applications in sensors and high-displacement actuators. A less explored property is flexoelectricity, the coupling between polarization and a strain gradient. We demonstrate that the stress gradient generated by the tip of an atomic force microscope can mechanically switch the polarization in the nanoscale volume of a ferroelectric film. Pure mechanical force can therefore be used as a dynamic tool for polarization control and may enable applications in which memory bits are written mechanically and read electrically.

Abstract:
Near-field electrospinning direct writing of array-nozzle is an efficient method for preparing large-area aligned fibers. However, electric field between the array-nozzle interferes with the stability and uniformity of near-field electrospinning, and little research has been done in this field. To clarify the electric field interference generated by array-nozzle, the experimental results compared with the simulation are discussed. In this work, electric field interference between the five-nozzle linear arrangement near-field electrospinning process was demonstrated by the initial ejection behavior, the electric field distribution of near-field electrospinning environment and the deposition spacing of fibers. In addition, we developed a simple and flexible method serving as a quantitative evaluation index for evaluating the degree of electric field interference. Then, the mapping effects of electric field interference of nozzle structure on the surface morphology and uniformity of aligned fibers were studied, including the number of nozzle, nozzle spacing and nozzle length with linear and toothed arrangement. According to the result of experiment and characterization, suitable arrayed nozzle parameters for stably direct-write aligned array pattern with near-field electrospinning were available, whose geometric parameters are linear two-nozzle with a nozzle spacing of 2 mm and a nozzle length of 6.35 mm. Finally, on the basis of our previous research, a microfluidic channel was successfully prepared on polydimethylsiloxane by two-nozzle cooperation, which verified the rationality of the geometry.

A novelist and playwright of little renown, Raymond Cousse is mostly known for his play His encounter with Beckett's work and then with Beckett himself was the electric shock that pushed this autodidact into writing. Our paper tends to a double aim : we shall fIrst examine how deeply Beckett has marked Cousse's work and existence, through the study of his writings – including non published documents such as abstracts from his diary, the correspondence between the two authors and several manuscripts by Cousse. We will then proceed with the following question: is the Irish writer's all-pervasive presence in Cousse's work reciprocated, in Samuel Beckett's writings, with echoes from Cousse's own novels and plays ?

Abstract:
Direct writing technology using nano/microsize particles in aqueous solution is currently one of the leading candidates to bring a substantial advancement to the technical arena. However, little is known about an effect of conductivity of the solution including metal ions on nanoparticle size for the direct writing technology. It is believed that conductivity of solution can influence the size of particles in reducing environmental of aqueous solutions. In this study parameters which affect electric conductivity in solution were characterized by changing concentration of copper ion, concentration of surfactants, and anion of metal compounds. The mobility of ion in aqueous media with respect to copper ion concentration was the most pronounced factor to control the size of created copper nanometals in water. However, due to the high reactivity on large surface area, the nanocopper metal was oxidized in water. The electric conductivity varied in the range of 7 to 360 mS/cm when Cu(NO3)2⋅3H2O dissolved in water from 0.03–3.0 mol/dm3. In this condition, the size of nano particles can vary from 10 to 500 nm. Various concentrations of surfactants and two anion Cu compounds used to vary the conductivity of the solution to verify the effect of electric conductivity of solution on the particle size. Decreasing the conductivity had a corresponding effect on the particle size. The electric conductivity was decreased from 67 to 56 mS/cm by adding surfactant from 0.1 to 0.5 mol/dm3consequently, the particle sizes were decreased from 89 to 21 nm. Copper nitrate and copper chloride were used to verify the anion effect on electrical conductivity and particle sizes. This effect was not dependent on the kind of ions chosen to change the conductivity. However, when Cu(NO3)2⋅3H2O was used, the size of the particles was 89 nm, while it was 91 nm when CuCl2⋅2H2O was used.

Abstract:
A great deal of interest over the years has been directed to the optical space solitons for the possibility of realizing 3D waveguides with very low propagation losses. A great limitation in their use for writing complex circuits is represented by the impossibility of making curved structures. In the past, solitons in nematic liquid crystals, called nematicons, were reflected on electrical interfaces, and more recently photorefractive spatial solitons have been, as well. In the present work, we investigate refraction and total reflection of spatial solitons with saturable electro-optic nonlinearity, such as the photorefractive ones, on an electric wall acting as a reflector. Using a custom FDTD code, the propagation of a self-confined beam was analyzed as a function of the applied electric bias. The electrical reflector was simulated by applying different biases in two adjacent volumes. We observed both smaller and larger angles of refraction, up to the critical π/2-refraction condition, and then the total reflection. The radii of curvature of the associated guides can be varied from centimeters down to hundreds of microns. The straight guides showed losses as low as 0.07 dB/cm as previously observed, while the losses associated with single curves were estimated to be as low as 0.2 dB.

Writing the differential equations of an asynchronous electric motor on the basis of a generalized electric machine in different coordinate axes can not only reduce the number of model equations, but also introduce various factors in the mathematical description that increase the modeling accuracy. It is proposed to write the equations of the mathematical model of an induction motor taking into account the saturation of the magnetic circuit and solve them using the Matlab application package. The proposed approach improves the accuracy of calculating the mechanical characteristics of an asynchronous electric drive.

Abstract:
A point charge moving uniformly around a circle produces an electric field pattern which co-rotates with it, constituting, for relativistic motion, synchrotron radiation. Surprisingly perhaps, the wealth of knowledge on synchrotron radiation does not seem to include explicit knowledge of the field itself, and of the consequent field lines. As with any relativistic motion, there is an obstruction to writing an explicit formula for the field; evaluation of the retarded time requires solving an implicit equation. However, as the relativistic limit is approached the field grows very strong in a very confined ribbon region shaped like a spiral watch spring. Here, the field can be written as an explicit scaling, or universal similarity, formula, which is our main result. From it the field lines can be derived analytically. In terms of scaled coordinates along the directions of the length, width and thickness of the ribbon, they twist in two side-by-side bundles in ‘bipolar’ cylinder surfaces, mirror symmetric about the orbit plane.

Abstract:
Electrohydrodynamic direct-writing (EDW) is a developing technology for high-resolution printing. How to decrease the line width and improve the deposition accuracy of direct-written patterns has been the key to the promotion for the further application of EDW. In this paper, an airflow-assisted spinneret for electrohydrodynamic direct-writing was designed. An assisted laminar airflow was introduced to the EDW process, which provided an additional stretching and constraining force on the jet to reduce the surrounding interferences and enhance jet stability. The flow field and the electric field around the spinneret were simulated to direct the structure design of the airflow-assisted spinneret. Then, a series of experiments were conducted, and the results verified the spinneret design and demonstrated a stable ejection of jet in the EDW process. With assisted airflow, the uniformity of printed patterns and the deposition position accuracy of a charged jet can be improved. Complex patterns with positioning errors of less than 5% have been printed and characterized, which provide an effective way to promote the integration of micro/nanosystems.

Externally applied fields play crucial role in the enhancement of space charge electric field (Esc) in photorefractive (PR) materials. Using band-charge transport model, Esc (~105V/m) is obtained in presence of externally applied dc electric (E0) and magnetic (B0) fields simultaneously. Numerical estimation of GaAs:Cr shows that in presence of externally applied fields (optimum value of E0 = 5 × 102 V/m and B0 = 640 gauss), diffraction efficiency ~90% can be observed. To further elaborate the above result, a typical behavior of recording and erasure of hologram with respect to time has been investigated. Result manifest that GaAs:Cr is efficient, ultrafast writing and erasing media for PR-grating.

The primary focus of this project is the silent and subvocal speech-recognition interface unveiled in 2018 as an ambulatory device wearable on the neck that detects a myoelectrical signature by electrodes worn on the surface of the face, throat, and neck. These emerge from an alleged “intending to speak” by the wearer silently-saying-something-to-oneself. This inner voice is believed to occur while one reads in silence or mentally talks to oneself. The artifice does not require spoken sounds, opening the mouth, or any explicit or external movement of the lips. The essay then considers such subvocal “speech” as a mode of writing or saying and the interior of the mouth or oral cavity as its writing surface. It briefly revisits discussions of telepathy to recontextualize Heidegger’s warning against enframing language exclusively within calculative technics and physiology, which he suggests is detrimental to Mundarten (mouth-modes of regional dialects). It closes in reconsideration of Husserl’s phenomenology of language and meaning in Ideas as it might apply to subvocal speech-recognition interfaces. It suggests ways by which the electrophysiology that the device detects and deciphers (as an alleged intention of a presumed natural language unspoken vocally or aloud) might supplement Husserl’s insinuation of the Leiblichkeit of language through a self-stamping extraction of an extension of meaning.

Abstract:
Nonvolatile (NV) memory is a key element for future high-performance and low-power microelectronics. Among the proposed NV memories, spintronics-based ones are particularly attractive for applications, owing to their low-voltage and high-speed operation capability in addition to their high-endurance feature. There are three types of spintronics devices with different writing schemes: spin-transfer torque (STT), spin-orbit torque (SOT), and electric field (E-field) effect on magnetic anisotropy. The NV memories using STT have been studied and developed most actively and are about to enter into the market by major semiconductor foundry companies. On the other hand, a development of the NV memories using other writing schemes are now underway. In this review article, first, the recent advancement of the spintronics device using STT and the NV memories using them are reviewed. Next, spintronics devices using the other two writing schemes (SOT and E-field) are briefly reviewed, including issues to be addressed for the NV memories application.

Abstract:
An additive manufacturing (AM) method for the deposition of metallic layer in micron scale on monocrystalline silicon wafer surface by high voltage induced weak electric arc machining (HV-μEAM) has been proposed. The process characteristics of HV-μEAM are analyzed to fulfil the metal material deposition. The influence of the processing parameters on the deposition effect were studied with copper as additive electrode material. Using the optimal parameters, a number of complex trajectory deposition experiments have been carried out and a QD character-type deposition layer with a height of 139.09 μm has been obtained. The deposition has good continuity and high forming precision. It is proven that the new method is achievable and efficient for patterning metallic materials in the micro- and nano-scale on the silicon substrates surface.

Abstract:
The question of causality in the invention of the alphabet has long eluded the theories of media scholars and linguists alike. In spite of the attention to the effects of the alphabet and literacy within the tradition of media ecology, not much work exists tracing the effects back to the causes and explaining why the alphabet emerged in the first place. By applying the principles of McLuhan’s understanding of Aristotle’s notion of formal cause, the author approaches the invention of the alphabet as a grammatical step in the evolution of written language. Most simply, this article proposes that the development of alphabetic writing was required as an unintended consequence of writing via inscription on clay and stone tablets (as opposed to writing via application on paper, papyrus or bamboo). The author then situates this claim within the broader context of the evolution of grammar and punctuation, demonstrating that the figure of writing and grammar has shifted and evolved notably with every transition of a new medium on which words are fixed, even up through the electric and digital ages. Finally, this article situates the evolution of emoji within the context of grammatical evolution, and not, as some have asserted, as the return to pictographic language.

Abstract:
This is an exploratory study in an undergraduate EFL business-writing course studying participants' ability to read, comprehend, and represent text visually using concept mapping (CM), summary writing, and social network analysis techniques as complementary strategies. The idea with this experiment was to explore if students are capable of analyzing business and technology information from technical readings in a way to represent it graphically with CMs and social networks. Preliminary data from the case study showed that students were reasonably successful in processing texts on topics related to the Tesla electric car company's business and technology models. Multiple iterations and guided instructions when designing CMs demonstrated the interplay of various actors, processes, interactions, and contexts. Student performance indicated significant expertise with CM design and text summarization but inadequate performance designing social networks, indicating the necessity for more structured instructions and practice.

To my astonishment, I find myself not “old,” not as we all feel at least for moments during middle age, but really old: eighty-seven-years-plus as I write this piece. It won't be finished until I am eighty-eight! That hard-to-swallow fact is what allows me this rather self-indulgent retrospective on a Victorianist career that has spanned several generations of criticism and scholarship. Perhaps, I dare to think, a look back at the arc of that career might be of interest to someone beside myself, moving as it does from the time—around Christmas 1958, when I began writing on a portable electric typewriter a dissertation on George Eliot and determinism—to this moment, when writing a dissertation on a single author seems rather risky and professionally unhelpful, especially if one tries to do it on a typewriter.

One of the biggest obstacles to development progress in Eastern Indonesia is the unavailability of electricity, especially on small island islands. The potential of ocean currents is one of the most renewable sources ofenergy considering that the majority of Eastern Indonesia is the ocean and has not been utilized optimally. Thepurpose of writing this paper is to reference the calculation of ocean currents for Indonesian coastal islands thathave minimal electricity. This research method uses literature studies on the morphology of the flow velocity andwind that occurs in the Capalulu Strait and the calculation of the potential of electrical energy in the CapaluluStrait so that the results of this calculation are used as one of the renewable energy methods that are able tomeet the electricity needs of island islands. which has not been electrified in Indonesia, especially in the SulaIslands, North Maluku. Keywords: Electric Energy, Ocean Flow Turbine, Renewable Energy, Strait of Capalulu

Abstract:
Well into his eighth decade, Eric Bentley now regards himself as primarily a playwright, having redefined the agenda of serious criticism during the early post-war years, pioneered the understanding, translation, and production of Brecht in the West, and for long combined academic work at Columbia with producing the best kind of regular theatre reviews. Apart from several collections of that ‘occasional’ writing, and anthologies of plays in translation which have helped to extend the range of the English-language repertoire, he has produced several full-length studies of seminal importance – from his early re-evaluation of Shaw and, in The Playwright as Thinker, of other major modern dramatists, to the more theoretical but invariably stimulating ‘rethink’ of dramatic genres in The Life of the Drama. More recently, he has devoted his time to active playwriting, and it was during a production of his Lord Alfred's Lover in Miami that the director and self-proclaimed ‘counterfeit critic’ Charles Marowitz persuaded him to discuss the present state of both the active theatre in the West – and of the condition of the critical trade he had once pursued.

Abstract:
A micro pattern is a key component of various functional devices. In the present study, using the poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) mixed material as the direct-writing solution and photographic paper as the flexible insulating substrate, the organic micro patterns of various shapes, such as the curve of the second-order self-similar structure, the helical curve, and the wave curve, were fabricated on the flexible insulating substrate by using the near-field electrohydrodynamic direct-writing method. The effects of process parameters, such as the applied voltage, direct-writing height, flow rate of the injection system, and moving velocity of the substrate, on the width and the conductivity of the organic micro patterns were studied in the near-field electrohydrodynamic direct-writing process. The results show that the width of an organic micro pattern increases with the increase of the applied voltage of the high-voltage power supplier and the flow rate of the injection system under the condition where the three other process parameters remained constant, respectively, while the width of an organic micro pattern decreases with the increase of the direct-writing height and the moving velocity of the flexible substrate, respectively. The fabricated organic microcircuit patterns of the natural drying in air at room temperature were tested by a thin film thermoelectric tester at a detection temperature. The results show that the conductivity of a fabricated organic micro pattern decreases with the increase of the electric field intensity, while the effect of moving velocity and the flow rate on the conductivity is small under the condition where the three other process parameters remained constant.

Abstract:
In this article, peridynamic (PD) theory is applied to analyze two-dimensional heat conduction of thermoelectric plate with discontinuities. It is a well-known fact that heat flux is undefined at the crack tip and causes the temperature field across the crack surface discontinuous. Hence, numerical procedures like finite element method (FEM) became unsuccessful to capture details of moving discontinuities like growing cracks. Therefore, this article proposes a PD theory that is appropriate in resolving moving discontinuities in thermal and electric fields. The PD equations were constructed by writing the continuum-based electrical potentials and temperature fields in the form of their respective non-local integrals that are remarkably powerful in solving continuum problems whether the authors have moving discontinuities or not. To elucidate the trustworthiness of the PD theory, the results in the case of stationary cracks are compared with the one from FEM and witnessed that they were in good agreement.
