Abstract:
The main aim of this article is to present research findings related to the design of an electric rickshaw for use in Kolkata, India, identifying weaknesses in the current cycle rickshaw, developing a design solution to address problems found, and exploring the possibility of utilising solar power. Through research and testing it was found there were many design issues, concerns with health and safety, comfort, and ergonomics. All problems found were addressed by implementing design upgrades. The testing of the current cycle rickshaw identified the power and energy required to implement an electric drive system, where a 500 W 24 V DC motor and a battery capacity of 220 ampere hours was used in conjunction with a pedal assist system to provide a range of up to 52 km. A conceptual prototype was developed to prove the successful application of a pedal assist system, which was established as a viable option for design. The design has been critically evaluated and the relevant issues discussed.

Abstract:
In the residential sector, a great part of the electricity goes into heating water by electric water heaters, which results in high CO2 emissions as well as an unprecedented increase in electricity demand leading to an energy crisis. This study offers solar water heaters as a more economical and efficient replacement for electric water heaters. The present study is aimed at investigating the potential for solar water heaters in the subcontinent, especially in India. A feasibility analysis is performed for seven cities in the subcontinent, namely Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Assam, Gujrat and Madhya Pradesh. Simulated results are based on a solar fraction, equity payback, multiple collectors (one, two or three), horizontal and tilted, type of collector (evacuated tube, glazed and unglazed), electricity saved and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction. The collector’s area is made such that it should receive at least 50% of the solar fraction. The range of payback period varies from five to 15 years. The results show Gujrat being the most ideal site for solar water heaters.

Abstract:
The present work consists of the modeling and analysis of solar photovoltaic panels integrated with electrolyzer bank and Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) fuel cell stacks for running different appliances of a hospital located in Kolkata for different climatic conditions. Electric power is generated by an array of solar photovoltaic modules. Excess energy after meeting the requirements of the hospital during peak sunshine hours is supplied to an electrolyzer bank to generate hydrogen gas, which is consumed by the PEM fuel cell stack to support the power requirement during the energy deficit hours. The study reveals that 875 solar photovoltaic modules in parallel each having 2 modules in series of Central Electronics Limited Make PM 150 with a 178.537 kW electrolyzer and 27 PEM fuel cell stacks, each of 382.372 W, can support the energy requirement of a 200 lights (100 W each), 4 pumps (2 kW each), 120 fans(65 W each) and 5 refrigerators (2 kW each)system operated for 16 hours, 2 hours,15 hours and 24 hours respectively. 123 solar photovoltaic modules in parallel each having 2 modules in series of Central Electronics Limited Make PM 150 is needed to run the gas compressor for storing hydrogen in the cylinder during sunshine hours. Abstract:
Background: Over the last few decades many railway accidents and fatalities have occurred in India as well as worldwide. Cities having a high economic activity and are complex spatial structures, are supported by transport systems. The evolution of mass rapid transport system in the form of sub-urban railway network has increased railway casualties in the cities as the railroads pass through residential and commercial zones.Methods: This cross-sectional observational study was conducted at R. G. Kar medical college and hospital police Morgue attached to the department of forensic medicine and toxicology (FMT), Kolkata on the randomly selected medico legal postmortems over last 4 years.Results: Railway accidents were common in males with mean age group of 38.98 years and was almost identical with the female mean age. The accidents mostly occurred in the office hours during the day time. Chi square test of association gave significant results between the different age groups with sex and grievous injuries sustained the people. Injuries sustained by the train showed that they were found mostly over the head followed by spine and thorax. Major cause of death was due to head injuries.Conclusions: The article gives an idea about the relevant demographic profiles and association with the age-related factors that can be taken up as means to prevent the accidents.

Abstract:
INTRODUCTION: Plastic is widely utilized all around the world. India is one of the top 15 polluters of plastic in the world, producing over 26,000 tonnes of plastic waste daily. On August 20, the LokSabha forbade the use of single-use plastic water bottles and other items. The government-run railroads will adhere to the same rules at all stations and aboard trains. According to a 2018 analysis by the Energy and Resource Institute in Delhi (TERI), which used information from India's federal pollution control agency, the country's annual output of solid garbage is made up 8% by plastic, the most of which is produced in Delhi, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad (CPCB) A total of 60 community members in Paloti Sawangi (M), Wardha, participated in this study.METHOD: For this study the Non- Probability quantitative sampling technique had been used.RESULT: One group per pre-test and post-test in the study's design. The knowledge of effective recycling and trash disposal practices for plastic was assessed. The study's findings showed that the average post-test score was 20.46, greater than the table value of 0.0001 S,p0.05 level, with a calculated pair-paired "t" value of 43.25. Additionally, the respondent's knowledge exceeded the mean pre-test knowledge score, which was 7.05 overall with a standard deviation of 2.25.CONCLUSION: Due to this, the information brochure on the risks of using plastic and correct disposal was successful and statistically significant. The study discovered no association between any specific demographic characteristic and the post-test knowledge score at a significance level of 0.05. The data analysis included both descriptive and inferential statistical methods.
