Abstract:
Arising out of the work of Marshall McLuhan, Eric Havelock, Walter Ong, Jacques Derrida and Gregory Ulmer, among others, it is widely thought there are three stages in the history of human communication: the oral, the literate and the electronic. Nonetheless, debate is ongoing over the integration, ordering and the substantive separation of these stages. An upshot of these debates is that each stage is loosely allied to a particular socio/political structure: hunter/gatherer or tribal societies, nation states, and globalisation respectively. In the current alloying of ‘electronic communication’ and ‘globalisation’ though there is a rising interest in what is termed ‘new regionalism’, or regionalisation, even regionality. Accordingly, Chora-Logic: Electracy as Regional Epistemology examines the possibility of an emerging conceptual alliance (and through reference to two Australian regions a sometimes embodied and situated one) between the embryonic communicational infrastructure of electracy and the age-old spatial scale of the region, a relationship that might just come to represent a means of rethinking the civic and the psychic, the commercial and governmental frameworks of an electro-energised global skein. It may also be a way of reinvigorating a study in the relation of the body (in its capacity as a citizen-subject) to the nation state, especially as all these entities are increasingly though ambiguously constituted in and through globalisation. The method of synthesising and antagonising these relations between electracy and regionalism is through the philosophy of chora, Plato’s conception of embodied place as found in the middle section of the Timaeus, coaxed along by a range of interpretations of this important genesis myth in Western philosophy. In particular, chora is taken up in the work of Gregory Ulmer as a key method in the ongoing conceptualisation of an electrate epistemology. Arising out of these concerns Chora-Logic is an experimental re-configuration of the sovereign, abstracted and disembodied citizen-subject of the Cartesian mould (a significant psycho-political mooring of the literate national character) to one situated both in the virtual density and multidimensional actuality of a particular place (organically conceived of herein as an idiosyncratic mix of psychic, domestic, workplace, local and regional proximities), but whose both [dis][embodied] self-knowledge and world-knowledge are now increasingly realised by access to an electronically arbitrated global/regional polis. In sound-bite terms, the bumper sticker could just as easily proclaim the following inversion: ‘Think and feel chora-logically, act globally’. Finally, the nucleus of Chora-Logic: Electracy as Regional Epistemology is a risky praxis whose experimental eddy (in both formal and content terms) spins within the current ambivalence, uncertainty and fast-paced change in electronic communicative arrangements (electracy), as these are themselves wrapped in the psychic and socio-political variabilities of spatial affiliation, all of which are symbiotically entwined regardless of the historical period and/or the geographical context.

Abstract:

This dissertation is a historical project that traces the development of notable strands of composition pedagogy first crafted by Gregory Ulmer in his 1984 Applied Grammatology that continue to the present day, and groups them together in how they are incorporating multimodal tools in writing instruction that demand innovation in composition instruction. This will demonstrate how the work of certain contemporary composition scholars can be seen as creatively re-working the invention model that was devised and promoted by Ulmer in 1984. Through this history of invention in composition, Ulmer's invention model of writing instruction is clearly seen as both situated within a contemporary American Romanticism, and influenced heavily by Derridean deconstruction, and I will show that today's scholars who are students of Ulmer's invention model are creating pedagogy that effectively bring together elements of both Romanticism and Deconstruction.

Abstract:
Internal+/-External Terrains is a meditation on the nature of electronic creativity, primarily from a production point of view. It seeks to arbitrate and synthesise a range of skills, attributes and ideas that might constitute the field of electronic aesthetics. It does this from the perspective of electronic artists, and the socio/economic/cultural system they increasingly serve. The aesthetics of electronic production, as looked at through the framework of electracy, serves as a model through which to locate some specific shifts in both self-making, and capitalism, in both their Post-Fordist, and globalising manifestations. Internal+/-External Terrains is a meditation on the re-conceptualisation going on in electronic meaning-making, as it is currently happening at the interfaces of the psyche, the politico-cultural domain, and in the techno-aesthetic apparatus of its production. Through the compilation of a possible program in electracy (of its various aesthetic components as used in production), along with a brief outline of the electronic artist, Internal+/-External Terrains situates both, as role-model and epicentre, of an increasingly accepted mode of abstraction: Radial-Logic©. And it is this omnidirectional form of abstraction currently lighting the cyber-cohering logic of an already arrived future.

Abstract:
Electric vehicle technology is an interdisciplinary field in continuous development. It appears to be a margin for improvements. The Division for Electricity at Uppsala University is doing significant research in the field. The present thesis investigates electric machines for vehicular applications, both in the driveline and in the traction motor. Section 1 presents a driveline with two galvanically isolated voltage levels. A low power side is operated at the optimum voltage of the batteries, while a high power side is operated at a higher voltage leading to higher efficiencies in the traction motor. Both sides are coupled through a flywheel that stabilizes the power transients inherent to a drive cycle. A review of electric machine topologies for electric vehicles is presented in Section 2. The permanent magnet excited machine is the most suitable technology for an electric driveline. Section 3 is devoted to numerical models applied to electric machines. The equivalent circuit of a motor/generator with two sets of windings is first presented. This machine couples both sides of the driveline and drives the rotor of the flywheel. The electric parameters are calculated with custom FEM models. A discussion on slotless machines concludes with a simple model to analyze the magnetic field from one static 3D simulation. The tooth ripple losses in solid salient poles are also analyzed with a novel FEM approach. A complete description of the losses in electric machines gives a proper background for further discussion on efficiency. Section 4 presents the experimental work constructed to validate the theoretical models. The experiments include an axial flux, single wounded prototype, an axial flux, double wound prototype and a planed radial flux coreless prototype. Section 5 focuses on traction motors for electric vehicles. A simulated prototype illustrates a design and calculation process. The loss theory and the numerical methods presented in Section 3 are applied.

Abstract:
Since few years the electric vehicles draw the attention. The battery technology’s continual improvements and incentives from the authorities guarantee them an assured future with a fast and considerable development. Some figures are forecasted by 2020: one or two millions electric vehicles. This could mean a huge increase in electricity consumption. The consequences on the total energy consumption have already been analyzed, however studies on the impact on the load curve remain scarce. In this context, this master thesis focuses on the impact of the electric vehicles’ charge on the French load curve and the production and consumption balancing. The grid issues are not studied here. The first part presents the state of the art in battery and electric vehicle technology, as well as battery charge’s characteristics. Besides the French traffic data are studied, in order to build the most realistic model as possible. The second part explains the principle of the modeling. A general and flexible model for the French fleet is built. This model can simulate the times of charge of a vehicle, and the state of charge of its battery, in order to get a total load curve for several days for an electric fleet. And finally, the different load curves are analyzed as well as their impacts on the electric balancing system and the possible solutions to lower these impacts. As the peak load for the electric vehicles’ charge corresponds to the total consumption peak in the evening according to the most probable scenario, services have to be implemented to reduce or put back the overload due to the electric vehicles. Those services (tariff signals regulations, battery management system, cut-off injunctions) have been tested. A model for grid injections during peak hours has also been developed, in order to help the electric system, and erase the electric vehicles’ impact on the load curve. Studies for the optimum load, the reserves and the margins are also suggested as well as other possible studies, such as EV’s carbon footprint. The reflections and strategies developed in this master thesis don’t reflect RTE’s policy and don’t commit the company.

Jin, Lebing. "Integrated Compact Drives for Electric and Hybrid Electric Vehicles." Doctoral thesis, KTH, Elkraftteknik, 2016. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:kth:diva-196732.

Abstract:
To develop more competitive solutions, one of the trends in the development of drive systems for electric and hybrid electric vehicles (EVs/HEVs) is to integrate the power electronic converter and the electric motor. This thesis aims to investigate the performance and the operation of modular converters in integrated motor drive systems for EVs/HEVs. In the first part, the concept of integrated modular motor drive systems for EVs/HEVs is introduced. Three suitable modular converter topologies, namely, the stacked polyphase bridges (SPB) converter, the parallel-connected polyphase bridges (PPB) converter and the modular high frequency (MHF) converter, are evaluated and compared with conventional electric drives in terms of power losses, energy storage requirements, and semiconductor costs. In the second part of the thesis, the harmonic content of the dc-link current of the SPB converter is analyzed. By adopting an interleaving modulation the size of the dc-link capacitor can be reduced without increasing the switching frequency, which is beneficial for achieving a compact integrated system. This method allows for around 80% reduction of the dc-link capacitance for vehicle drives, resulting in a significant size reduction of the power converter and improved integration. Finally, a communication-based distributed control system for the SPB converter is presented. The communication delay arising from the serial communication is inevitable, thus a timing analysis is also presented. It has been found that stability is maintained even when the baud rate of the SPI communication is lower than 1 Mbps, indicating that other communication protocols with lower bandwidths can also be adopted for this topology. The analytical investigations provided in this thesis are validated by experiments on a four-submodule laboratory prototype. Experimental results verify the correctness of the theoretical analysis, as well as the dynamic performance of the distributed control system.

Moorhead, Mayron. "The Metabolic Cost of Electric Signalling in Weakly Electric Fish." Thesis, University of Ottawa (Canada), 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/10393/28900.

Full text
Abstract:
Wave-type weakly electric fish emit a highly regular electric discharge using a specialized electric organ. This electric organ discharge (EOD) forms the basis for an electric sense used for navigation, prey detection and communication. The metabolic cost of the EOD is not fully understood, but recent research suggests that it constitutes a significant portion of the fish's energy budget. In the current study, manipulation of metabolic rate via exposure to hypoxia did not significantly alter EOD frequency. Changes in metabolic rate through swimming resulted in EOD frequency increase. To manipulate EOD frequency directly in individual fish, the jamming avoidance response (JAR) and long term frequency elevation (LTFE) were used. EOD frequency elevation and jamming stimulation resulted in an increased M˙O2 possibly associated with increases in sensory processing. Taken together, these data indicate that electric signalling in wave-type weakly electric fish is a not a major contributor to whole-animal energetic cost.

Full text
Abstract:
AbstractThe thesis in hand has investigated the feasibility of a cable electric ferry concept. The concept investigated is based on that a short route ferry receives its propulsive power through a cable connected to the land power grid. Four cable transfer configurations and associated equipment have been looked upon. The cable can either be stretched in the air over the route, it can float after the ferry, it can be towed submerged after the ferry, or it can follow the bottom contours after the ferry. The three latter configurations required storage and cable handling equipment, which can either be located onboard the ferry or on shore. The cable is reeled out under transit and spooled in on the way back. The air stretched configuration requires an arm type connection between the ferry and the cable in order to receive power. Current available technology has been assessed for concept realization in terms of cable and handling equipment. In addition, regulations for power onboard and emergency power systems are viewed upon, as well as regulations on emissions to air. Competing and alternative power systems to the concept have also been assessed. Lastly, a case study for concept implementation has been conducted.Findings made in the thesis include that current cable material composition and layer configurations will need engineering in terms of increasing strength, and reducing weight and dimension without influencing conductivity. Current cable handling equipment used in offshore cable laying vessels have good tension specifications for the concept, but compared to alternative power sources such as diesel- and LNG-gensets they have large weights and dimensions, and their operational handling speed is low for high tension levels. This gives that current technology would need development for concept realization. Weights and dimensions must be reduced, and handling speed must be increased such that the ferry is able to operate in normal transit with speed and payload. Further, the concept has also been economically compared with alternative power sources. With current technology the concept costs exceed the cost of competing alternatives, where the most expensive concept component is the cable. The cable cost exceeds the cost of a new LNG-genset. Cable handling equipment costs are relatively low compared to the cable. As for operational costs, electricity is found comparable with current LNG prices. But for maintenance costs, the concept is far more expensive than for instance a LNG-genset, because the cable will have relatively low operational lifecycle due to wear and fatigue, and will have to be replaced a lot sooner than gensets. And a genset can increase operational lifecycle by being overhauled, where pistons, bearings and seals are replaced. The concept is found physically feasible, but to meet the specification requirements equipment and components will need engineering and analyses. Economically, the concept is rather insufficient, but future local emission regulations and fuel costs may make the concept achievable.

Abstract:
The hydraulic models representing hydro turbines and conduit system found instandard model libraries of power system analysis tools are often simplied mod-els. Subsequently, important information about the dynamics of the hydraulicsystem may not be properly represented by such models, putatively resultingin insucient representation of the interaction between the electric system andhydraulic system. In this master thesis three dierent hydraulic models for hydro power plantsequipped with Francis turbines for use in power system simulation software hasbeen studied: 1) a simplied model often found in power system simulation tools;2) a model including a surge tank and elastic water column and 3) a model thatincludes a surge tank, elastic water column and turbine parameters accountingfor the characteristics of the hydraulic turbine. The hydraulic models were implemented in Simpow, a power system simulationtool. A frequency scan in the range from 10􀀀3-5 Hz was performed. The re-sults were compared with a frequency scan from LVtrans, a program specicallydesigned for accurate simulation of the dynamics of the hydraulic side in hydropower plants. The comparison showed that the simplied model failed to prop-erly represent the dynamics of the conduit system. The the model with surgetank and elastic water column was able to represent the dynamics of the con-duit system with satisfactory accuracy. Best representation was achieved for themodel including turbine parameters. The three hydraulic models were implemented in three dierent power systemcongurations: a single machine innite bus system; a system consisting of twointerconnected areas; and a system that has sustained power oscillations. Theresulting active power delivered from the generator were the hydraulic modelswas implemented, the speed of the turbine, the pressure at turbine and the owthrough the turbine were investigated. The simulation results revealed that the active power variation from the gener-iiators is in the same range for all three models, except for the simulation withsustained power oscillations. The speed variations of the turbine as a result ofincidents in the electrical network are in the same range for all three models. The model including turbine parameters is the only model able to representthe pressure variation as a result of a variation of speed of the turbine. Forpower oscillations with frequencies equal to the half period frequency of the waterhammer eect,1.38Hz, both the model with surge tank and elastic water columnand the turbine parameter model show very little response. For frequencies equalto the water hammer eect, 0.69Hz the variation in ow is also small for the twomodels. In general, the model with turbine parameters are better damped thanthe two other models.Further work should include development of an automated routine for determin-ing parameters to use in the model with turbine parameters as well as investiga-tions of how the model behaves in dierent network congurations.

This thesis explores the intersection of craft and electronics by way of paper and conductive ink, a domain that I'm terming papercraft electronics-a synthesis of electronics, drawing, and painting. I investigate the nature of making a physical electronic artifact, and the ways in which that making informs our relationship with both the artifact, specifically, as well as technology writ large. I examine craft-the manual process-as a means for embedding new kinds of personally-significant meaning in electronics, re-positioning electronics fabrication as the creation of personal, unique, hand-crafted artifacts. I do so through a series of case studies oriented around the papercraft electronics domain. Through a sequence of projects, workshops, and evaluations, I examine the personal connection and pride that comes with making, as well as the handmade artifact's place in technology. In particular, I initiate projects around the making of paper sensors, speakers, synthesizers, and audio-augmented artworks.

The physical user interface is an increasingly significant factor limiting the effectiveness of our interactions with and through technology. This thesis introduces Electric Field Imaging, a new physical channel and inference framework for machine perception of human action. Though electric field sensing is an important sensory modality for several species of fish, it has not been seriously explored as a channel for machine perception. Technological applications of field sensing, from the Theremin to the capacitive elevator button, have been limited to simple proximity detection tasks. This thesis presents a solution to the inverse problem of inferring geometrical information about the configuration and motion of the human body from electric field measurements. It also presents simple, inexpensive hardware and signal processing techniques for making the field measurements, and several new applications of electric field sensing. The signal processing contribution includes synchronous undersampling, a narrowband, phase sensitive detection technique that is well matched to the capabilities of contemporary microcontrollers. In hardware, the primary contributions are the School of Fish, a scalable network of microcontroller-based transceive electrodes, and the LazyFish, a small footprint integrated sensing board. Connecting n School of Fish electrodes results in an array capable of making heterodyne measurements of any or all n(n - 1) off-diagonal entries in the capacitance matrix. The LazyFish uses synchronous undersampling to provide up to 8 high signal-to-noise homodyne measurements in a very small package. The inverse electrostatics portion of the thesis presents a fast, general method for extracting geometrical information about the configuration and motion of the human body from field measurements. The method is based on the Sphere Expansion, a novel fast method for generating approximate solutions to the Laplace equation. Finally, the thesis describes a variety of applications of electric field sensing, many enabled by the small footprint of the LazyFish. To demonstrate the School of Fish hardware and the Sphere Expansion inversion method, the thesis presents 3 dimensional position and orientation tracking of two hands.

Abstract:
Weakly electric fish use a unique sensory modality in order to help them communicate, navigate and find prey. These fish emit electric discharges that are monitored by electroreceptors located in the fish's skin. Surrounding objects perturb these baseline transdermal potentials and create electric images. The study of these images has led to a better understanding of general sensory processing principles; however, many aspects of these fish's natural electrosensory environment remain unknown. To this end, a two-dimensional finite element model of Apteronotus leptorhynchus was created. Using this model, we suggest new ways by which electric fish are able to locate objects and propose that it is possible for these fish to extract useful information from their environment using their natural scanning behaviour. Our results also reveal important limitations in standard experimental paradigms that aim to mimic the effects of conspecifics. Alternative paradigms that will enable more realistic stimulation are suggested.

This paper aims to estimate the costs and the performance of an electrically powered and a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) in relation to a conventional internal combustion engine car in the consumer, society and the exhaust Well-to-Wheel (WtW) carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, using portuguese data. This goal will be achieved by building a total ownership cost model. A sensibility analysis is also conducted to assess the impact of alterations on the values of the key parameters. The results of this study suggest that neither the hybrid electric vehicle neither the battery electric vehicle (BEV) are yet competitive with the internal combustion engine vehicle (ICEV) in the Portuguese market.

Abstract:
In recent years, electric vehicles have come to the forefront of public transport policies. They are seen as remedy for various pressing public concerns and are thus increasingly benefiting from supportive policy measures. Such measures remain contested: their impact on actual vehicle uptake rates, their sustainability, usefulness and justification are far from being self-evident. This study aims at uncovering the effect of financial demand-side public policy measures on i) the uptake rate of electric vehicles among private households in France, and ii) the public budget. First, the context within which electric vehicles are to evolve is sketched. A comprehensive overview of the potential opportunities that come with the introduction of electric vehicles is given. An international policy review depicts public policy levers that are currently deployed in order to support the uptake of electric vehicles. A focus is put on financial demand-side measures. Preliminary conclusions on their effectiveness with regards to observed electric vehicle uptake rates in the various countries reviewed are drawn. Next, the potential market for electric vehicles among French households is explored. Besides financial aspects, socio-economic obstacles to electric vehicle uptake among private households are analysed. With the aid of scenario analysis that accounts for the many uncertainties with regards to future vehicle developments, costs and market trends, a forecast of the electric vehicles' potential up until 2023 is given. The applied disaggregate approach based on the database of the French National Transport Survey 2007/2008 allows identifying the most promising sets of financial public policy measures that are likely to guarantee certain electric vehicle uptake rates over the next decade. Lastly, the effect of replacing one conventional vehicle by one electric vehicle on the public budget is investigated. Both, vehicle manufacture and use aspects are considered. The set up valuation model hereby accounts for direct and indirect financial impacts on the public budget. These comprise direct purchase subsidies, tax breaks, and tax income, as well as effects of changing employment situations that alter the amount of social contributions and unemployment benefits .The study's findings and considerations allow for various suggestions for vehicle manufacturers and policy makers willing to support the uptake of electric vehicles. These are listed in the conclusions section which also sketches directions for further research

Abstract:
Electrical machines have been widely used along the last decades with large life length under operating conditions. However, they will become more important in the upcoming years because of the emerging electric car industry. Thus, the maintenance cost of this technology can be reduced by extending the lifetime in the electrical machines. Despite the fact that existing numerous studies within the life length in these devices, only few study the effect of the thermomechanical stresses of insulation. The core of this master thesis is to study the influence of these stresses in the insulation material of a winding. The tested electrical machines were subjected to different test conditions, allowing to analyse multiple aging effects in the winding. To achieve these effects, power cycling tests were carried out on stators, where the windings were tested in cycles with different ΔT and two cooling methods: air cooling and oil cooling. The results showed large aging differences between the two cooling methods employed. The aging effect in the oil cooling method was higher than in the air cooling method for the same number of cycles. However, the aging effects regarding the same cooling process had not wide differences between the different test temperatures.

Abstract:
Electric quality is a common concept for a energy delivery without interference. In time with he development of the technology which produce more complex devices connected to the lectric mains increase the demands on a electric delivery without interference. The purpose ith this report was to investigate the electric quality to chosen places at the combined power nd heating plant of E.ON in Händelö. The degree thesis is performed at the company ES lektroSandberg which have their manning/crew at Händelö. From the analyse it was suppose o show the result and give proposal to any problem that may arise. The last 10-15 years it’s been a great focus on harmonics and its influence on the electric ains. It’s easy to make the conclusion that harmonics are a great problem in our electric ains but it isn’t always like that. Certainly a net which shows a lot of harmonics can be a roblem but the greatest problem in the electric mains is the variation of voltage. That’s the eason why this report doesn’t only limits to harmonics but also includes other factors in elation to electric quality. The measurements are performed with a power quality analyser C.A 8334, from the company A Mätsystem AB. The duration for the measurements are 24 hours. When the measurements ere done, the data transfers to the PC where it can be analysed. he report begins with a general theory to give such a good platform as possible for the nalysis and the conclusion. After the theory the companies are presented. This follows by an ccount of the results that power quality analyser received. The report ends with a conclusion nd a discussion about the result. The conclusion treats interesting problems where it’s essential to inspect more in the process. hrough the result it can be concluded that the level of harmonics are pretty low in the plants. t result shows that the levels of harmonics are greatest at the converters which should not e such a surprise. In the transient analysis you will find several big transients which could ead to damages on equipments if they are not designed for big transients. The discussion does lso presents some proposals to carry through in future on the plants of Händelö.

Abstract:
The thesis builds and presents a feasibility study for the use of an electrical transmission to power the tail rotor of a helicopter; the electric tail rotor drive concept. The contributions to knowledge are: • Research into the state-of-the-art in electrical transmission technology and architectures in the context of application as a helicopter tail rotor transmission. Analysis of the best performing and most suitable technologies and the design trade-offs involved. • Development of an electrical transmission sizing model and process for estimating figures for critical factors determining feasibility and initial design optimisation. • Application of research and sizing model to estimate the feasibility of an electric tail rotor drive architecture, the impacts of variations of the architecture and potential improvements brought by further development. The thesis begins with an introduction to more-electric vehicle research, the tail rotor transmission application and the electric tail rotor drive concept. The most critical factors affecting the determination of feasibility are outlined and explained, along with a representation of effectiveness developed through systems thinking. Technical research into electrical transmission technology and architectures is conducted, presenting the state-of-the-art and most suitable for use in the electric tail rotor drive concept. A baseline electric tail rotor drive architecture is presented and explained. An electrical system sizing approach and model developed from technical research is used to calculate values for feasibility factors for the baseline architecture and several variations. Safety cases are developed for triplex and quadruplex architecture. The results of feasibility analyses are presented and compared with the existing mechanical tail rotor drive. Finally, conclusions are drawn about the current feasibility of the electric tail rotor drive, the important technical considerations and the future potential of the concept. The appendices include the derivation of the electrical system sizing model and diagrams generated during the systems thinking exercises.

Abstract:
Commercial aviation accounts for 2,4% of the total carbon dioxide emissions. This number is expected to reach 25% in 2050. In contrast to flying, the most energy efficient transportation mode is rail. In Sweden, rail and air are the most competitive on the distance Stockholm-Gothenburg due to similar total travel time. The most popular high-speed train on this distance is X2000. X2000 is electrified, contributing to merely indirect carbon emissions. Considering electricity as an energy source, the corresponding air transportation mode with respect to X2000 would be electric aircraft. This study investigates if electric aircraft could compete with electric trains on the distance Stockholm-Gothenburg in the foreseeable future. The objective was to identify challenges regarding electrification of aircraft using X2000 as a benchmark. These challenges were determined through a comparison between electric aircraft and electric train. In general, the comparison contains an analysis of cost, environmental impact, safety, comfort and time. In particular, the ticket price, carbon dioxide emissions, fatality rate, interior and exterior noise and transportation time were studied. The comparison was performed through a literature study. The results depicted electric aircraft could in the best-case scenario be slightly cheaper than the corresponding high-speed train option. Conversely, electric aircraft have somewhat higher energy consumption than X2000, hence the indirect carbon dioxide emissions from the electricity production are higher. However, these emissions are significantly lower than those from conventional aircraft. Regarding safety, electric aircraft are predicted to be safer than conventional ones, and therefore even safer than trains. Furthermore, electric aircraft contribute to less noise pollution than X2000. Though, the interior noise level is lower in a train car of X2000 than in a cabin of an electric aircraft. Concerning time, electric aircraft would even in the worst-case scenario have the same transportation time as X2000. Therefore, it was concluded that electric aircraft could compete with electric trains for short travel distances such as Stockholm-Gothenburg, in the foreseeable future.

Abstract:
Passenger jet airplane propulsion systems are today dominated by turbo-jet engines that burn fossil fuels. The unsustainability of this is a concern both from an economic and environmental point of view. This research identifies the limiting factors in achieving to build a compelling battery-electric passenger jet airplane, and predict the range that can be achieved today and in the foreseeable future. literature study was performed to find the necessary performance data for all technical components. To analyze the performance of an electric propulsion system, the Boeing 787-8 was chosen as a reference and comparison. Piano-X, a program used for simulating the performance of different aircrafts under different conditions was then used to get data for fuel consumption and performance data for the airplane. The gravimetric energy density of the batteries was found to be the greatest limiting factor. Electric motors and power electronics were found to have about the same performance as a modern turbo-fan engine in terms of gravimetric power density. The results also showed that with today’s batteries, that present an energy density of 250 Wh/kg, the range is limited to about 600 km, assuming a 40% cell-mass-fraction and 25% improvement in flight efficiency. In conclusion, the challenge in creating a compelling all-electric passenger jet airplane is a big one, but not impossible. Assuming battery technology continues to improve at current rate, and design optimizations are done to the airplanes, a range over 1400 km seems to be possible within the next decade.

Abstract:
New trends for environmentally-friendly mobility are rising and expectations derived from customers are significant. Urban areas such as London or even Stockholm are starting to build urban tolls by charging conventional vehicles while full‐electric powered vehicles are exempted. Carbon taxes will be certainly introduced at the EU scale in the next decade, which will strengthen those expectations of   transportation  changes  especially  regarding  private  vehicles.  High  electrification  degree  of conventional  vehicles  has  to  be  performed  to  answer  to  those  expectations.  To  avoid  range restriction mainly related to the energy content limitations in battery electric vehicles (BEV), fuel tank has to be kept in conjunction with internal combustion engine. Thereby, according to this statement, the design of either a plug‐in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) or a range extender (REX) in a second extent with an extensive full‐electric range is relevant in the next decade.

Abstract:
In todays society it’s usual with non linear loads in the electric power system. These loads contribute to the problems in the distriubution net. This student thesis will describe the different types of problems that can evolve with specific focus on a problem at Billerud AB Skärblacka. The purpose with the work was to see what causes a heat problem in one of their transformers. The report begins with a theoretic part that describes diffrent power quality concepts and informations areas necessary for the work. After the theoretical part the system is described and also the harmonics- and asymmetry measurments done with purpose to analyze the heat problem. The measurments were logged for a couple of days to be able to get information about different loads, to see if that had any effect on the amount of the harmonics. There is also a simulation of the system done, which indicates that the problem doesn’t have to depend on the frequency converter in the system. The investigation indicates that it can be the transformer that isn’t correctly dimensioned to handle the amount of harmonics from the frequency converter and that’s why it gets overheated. The result indicates that the amount of harmonics from the converter is as the supplier issued. A difficultiy during the work was to be able to measure on all connections, since the voltage and current are too high for the measurement equipment and also hard to reach in all areas of the system. Further measurments would lead to more specific analysis. The final part of the report gives different proposals for an upcoming work.

Abstract:
Abstract Iran is a very vast country with about 80 million population that they are really fragmented. Providing electricitypower for all the society which is duty of power ministry of Iran according to the resources and facilities. The thesis gives an overview of production of electrical energy in Iran and how the production is divided ondifferent energy sources. At the present time there are 197 power plants are producing electricity to supportthe country that they are combination of 8 kind of different power plants which are thermal power plants, gaspower stations, combined cycles, hydro power plants, biogas plants, wind power stations, solar plants andnuclear power stations. During the last decade Iran took care of renewable energy sources to produce electricitythat cause wind power plants and solar power plants can take a small share from the total production. Althoughthey are not play a serious role yet but the policy of the country is improving these kind of power plants. Foreach source the production principle is described briefly by help of a diagram and also there is a table of allpower plants which are included details of each power plant like: name of power plant, state (location) , year ofinstallation, nominal power, gross power, efficiency, consumption (fuel, water,…) and so on. For each kind ofpower plants there is a bar chart which compares the nominal power of all power plants at a glance and alsothere is a map that the location of each station has been marked on. Total data for production in a year has been presented. Also there is a list of power plants which they are underconstruction and will be ready in future. For transmitting electricity power in the country there are four kind of transmission lines which are: 400 KV, 230KV, 132 KV and 66 KV. The development of each kind of transmission lines since 1963 is presented in a table anda chart. Also Iran has export and import electricity with 8 neighbor countries like: Iraq, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan,Turkmenistan, Turkey, Pakistan, Armenia and Nakhjavan. The range of exchange since 1993 is shown in a tableand a chart.

Abstract:
This paper deals with the mechanical construction process of an electric motor demonstrator of Mauritz Andersson's design. Several design issues have been addressed, primarily the winding of the coils, the fixation of the coils and how toconnect the coils to the power electronics. Some mechanical parts have been constructed, and some preparations for creating the power electronics have been examined. The coils have been manufactured by using enameled copper wire, winding it with acrank onto a winding tool. The coil have been fixated with adhesive and removed from the winding tool. Several different adhesives have been examined, where2-component heat transfer adhesive from Fischer Electronics and Polyester resin ULTIMEG showed to be the most prominent ones. The layout of the winding tool have been given much attention, and the winding path of the enamelled wire have been carefully planned, which increased the number of revolutions from 76 to 90.

The Chinese household appliance manufacturing industry has made remarkable achievements in the world with its low labor cost, perfect supporting industrial cluster and scale economy, and laid the position of "big country of home appliance manufacturing industry". With China's accession to the world trade organization, the world trade organization's principles of equality, reciprocity and openness, as well as the influence of the wave of globalization, provide a good opportunity for China's home appliance manufacturing industry to implement the global strategy and participate in the global market competition. Value assessment not only helps enterprises understand themselves, but also helps investors make investment decisions. Because the country's financial system is not sound, the investment channel is limited, a large amount of capital is backlog into the stock market, and many stock prices deviate from the actual value, so the evaluation of enterprise value becomes more and more important. This project analyzes the financial condition and company value of GREE electric appliances, and puts forward constructive suggestions accordingly.

Abstract:
This report presents the process of building a system thattunes a guitar with the help of an Arduino board, writingalgorithms for processing signals from a microphone andcontrolling the tension of the strings according to the desiredfundamental frequency. The research question for thisproject is how different sample rates affects the accuracy ofthe tuning, different sample rates were examined in orderto find a sample rate that yields the best precision in tuningacross all strings of the guitar.
