Abstract:
With the accelerating global aging population, solving eldercare issues has become a significant challenge, and smart community elderly care services based on big data and internet technology have emerged as a response. To further analyze the factors influencing the elderly’s willingness to participate in smart community elderly care services, this study first reviews relevant literature from the perspectives of smart community elderly care and willingness to participate, providing a theoretical basis for this paper. Next, to ensure the typicality of the research, Weifang City is selected as the study’s experimental site. Questionnaires were distributed to collect data on the elderly’s willingness to participate in smart community elderly care services, and univariate analysis was conducted for factor screening. The screened results were then analyzed using binary logistic regression. The results are mainly analyzed from three aspects: individual factors such as age, type of household registration, and occupation; family internal factors such as living situation, family support for participating in community elderly care, and external factors such as neighborhood relationships and exposure to privacy. These factors influence the elderly’s willingness to participate in smart community elderly care. Finally, through discussion, the study identifies existing problems and proposes measures to improve the elderly’s willingness to participate in smart community elderly care, such as providing demand-oriented services, updating elderly care concepts, and creating a favorable external environment.

Abstract:
Objectives The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of the elderly's participation in social activities on depression and to identify the difference between family types and age groups in the relationship between participation in social activities and depression. Methods The subjects of the study were 9,920 elderly people who participated in the survey on the status of the elderly (2020). The analysis method analyzed the collected data through multiple regression analysis and Chow test using SPSS 22.0. Results The results of the study are as follows. First, economic and leisure cultural activities were found to have a negative effect on depression in the elderly's participation in social activities. Second, the difference in age groups was significant in the relationship between social activities and depression of the elderly. In participation in social activities, it was found that the late elderly had more negative effects on both economic activities and leisure and cultural activities than the early elderly. Third, the difference in family types was significant in the relationship between the elderly's participation in social activities and depression. In participation in social activities, there were more significant negative differences in economic activities for the elderly living alone than for the elderly living alone, and there were more significant negative differences in leisure and cultural activities for the elderly living alone than for the elderly living alone. Conclusions Based on the above research results, practical measures according to family type and age group were proposed as a way to revitalize the elderly's participation in social activities to prevent depression in the elderly.

Abstract:
With the rapid decline in China’s fertility rate, the acceleration of aging, the continuous miniaturization and nucleation of China’s family structure, and the deterioration of the elderly’s living conditions and mental states, the elderly’s mental health has emerged as a major public health issue and a major social problem. Pensions are the elderly’s primary source of income, and they can help them meet their basic needs while also promoting family harmony and improving their mental health. Based on the data of the 2012, 2016, and 2018 Chinese Family Panel Studies (CFPS), we empirically examined the impact of pensions on the elderly’s mental health by using the fixed effects model, mediating effect model, and so on. The results show that receiving pension benefits can significantly reduce the level of depression and improve the mental health of the elderly. Receiving pension benefits causes reverse intergenerational economic transfer, which reduces the effect of pensions on the elderly’s mental health to some extent, but the life care and mental comfort provided by children increases when the elderly share pensions with their children. Overall, receiving pension benefits improves the mental health of the elderly. In addition, the effect of pensions on the elderly with different characteristics is heterogeneous. The older elderly, women, the elderly living with their children, and the elderly in rural areas all benefit more from receiving pension benefits. Moreover, the worse the mental health of the elderly is, the stronger the influence of pensions on their mental health is. Our discussion has important policy implications.

Abstract:
Background and purpose: The risk of hypertension increases in the elderly, while treatment adherence plays a crucial role in controlling blood pressure in the elderly. This study aims to explore the elderly's perception of hypertension and its treatment. Methods: This study used an exploratory qualitative design. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews about the elderly's perception of hypertension and its medication, health-seeking behavior, and cues to action in undergoing treatment for 6 elderlies with hypertension and 4 health workers in Gianyar District in July-September 2020. The data obtained were analyzed using thematic methods. Results: This study identified 2 big themes, namely the elderly's perception of hypertension and seeking behavior. The elderly's perception of hypertension is described from the perceived vulnerability from the aspect of age, lifestyle, and heredity. Hypertension is seen as a serious disease by the elderly, particularly from the complications aspect, while complaints felt are not considered serious unless they interfere with activities or have to undergo treatment. Reduced complaints and controlled blood pressure are the perceived benefits of treatment and lifestyle adjustments: long-term medication, side effects of drugs, and traditional medicine as obstacles for the elderly in undergoing treatment. The elderly seek treatment based on their trust and comfort in health workers, infrastructure, access to health services, and support from health workers and the government. Conclusion: The perception of barriers to treatment and health-seeking behavior of the elderly in seeking treatment play a significant role in determining the medicational therapy that the elderly undergoes, which can prevent complications. Family support for the elderly is essential in overcoming obstacles and increasing elderly adherence to medication.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to identify the gait pattern of the elderly with aging and to analyze the elderly’s gait changes by the focal tendon vibratory stimulation. A total of 10 elderly males and 15 young adult males participated in this study. Using 3D motion analysis, we analyzed that difference between the elderly gait and young adults gait and the changes of the elderly gait by applying focal vibratory stimuli. As a result, specifically in the early stance, the elderly’s gait was more flexed and the lower extremity extensors of the elderly worked harder. When the focal vibratory stimuli were applied, joint angle of the elderly was induced to that of the young adults. There was a reduction in demands for supporting bodies and progressing gait in the stance phase. This means that focal vibratory stimuli affect the gait of the elderly. Also, the changes of the gait of the elderly varied according to the characteristics of the focal vibratory stimuli. This implies that the activity of the motor may be dependent on vibratory stimuli characteristics.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to examine and verify whether social capital modulates the relationship between motivation for social participation and depression in the elderly. To this end, data were collected through a questionnaire survey targeting elderly people aged 65 or older in the Jeonbuk area, and responses were collected from 414 people. Among them, the response data from 395 people were analyzed by a controlled regression equation using the SPSS 25.0 statistical program, and a simple slope test was performed. . The analysis results are as follows. First, as the relationship-oriented motivation among the elderly's social participation motivation increased, the elderly's depression decreased. Second, as social capital increased, depression in the elderly decreased. Third, as a result of verifying the moderating effect of social capital in the relationship where the elderly's social participation motivation (self-oriented motivation, relationship-oriented motivation, social-oriented motivation) affects depression in the elderly, the group with high social capital is the group with low social capital. In comparison, social participation motives (self-oriented motives, relationship-oriented motives) had a greater influence on depression in the elderly. Based on this, it was confirmed that social capital modulates the effect of the elderly's social participation motivation (self-oriented motivation, relationship-oriented motivation) on depression in the elderly. Based on these results, practical and policy suggestions were made on ways to provide social participation opportunities for the improvement of depression in the elderly, ways to form a social support network, and social participation activities for the elderly that can be applied at the community level.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Hypertensive crisis is the most common problem in the elderly resulting from uncontrolled hypertension. A common problem that is a factor causing a hypertensive crisis is ignorance regarding how to treat and prevent the disease, which increases the risk of a hypertensive crisis, so a means of increasing knowledge is needed, namely audio-visual media. The aim of this activity is to increase the elderly's knowledge about hypertensive crises using audio-visual media. The activity was held on December 21, 2023, regarding audio-visual media education about preventing hypertensive crises in the elderly, located at the Mojogedang Mental Revolution House. There were 42 elderly people who took part in the activity in the elderly posyandu area. The pretest results showed that 15 people (35.7%) dominated the elderly's knowledge as poor. The posttest results showed that knowledge of the elderly was dominated by 18 people (42.9%). The marginal homogeneity test obtained a p value of 0.000, which concluded that audio-visual media is an alternative means of increasing the knowledge of the elderly. In conclusion, community service using audio-visual media methods regarding the prevention of hypertensive crises in the elderly significantly helps in increasing the knowledge of the elderly. Abstract:
Millions of people use the internet daily, including the elderly, who are among the most at-risk groups for cybercrime, such as fraud, hacking, and cyberbullying. However, there has been a lack of cybercrime studies focusing on them. Additionally, various cybersecurity models deployed by governments and organizations are found to be inconvenient and too technical for the elderly, especially those with impairments or conditions that require special attention. This subsequently leads to an increasing number of cybercrimes. Therefore, this paper presents a light review of existing cybersecurity models suitable for the elderly. Three methods were used to review existing cybersecurity awareness models. First, a feasibility study was conducted following several works of literature related to cybersecurity, types of cybercrimes involving the elderly, characteristics of the elderly commonly targeted by cybercriminals, cybersecurity awareness models, and the elderly's learning styles. Second, based on the literature review, the elderly's learning styles were analyzed. Finally, the cybersecurity awareness model suitable for the elderly was chosen and analyzed with respect to their phases, validity, and technicality. In conclusion, the SCSAM-Elderly was selected as the most suitable model for the elderly to learn and spread awareness of cybersecurity. This study could increase cybersecurity awareness and encourage educating the elderly to maximize their knowledge of cybersecurity. The findings from this study can guide organizations, agencies, governments, and educational institutions in their endeavours to educate the elderly about cybercrime and cyberattacks.

Abstract:
An integrated smart home system (ISHS) is an effective way to improve the quality of life of the elderly. The elderly’s willingness is essential to adopt an ISHS; to the best of our knowledge, no study has investigated the elderly’s perception of ISHS. Consequently, this study aims to investigate the elderly’s perception of the ISHS by comprehensively evaluating its possible benefits and negative responses. A set of sensors required for an ISHS was determined, and interviews were designed based on four factors: perceived comfort, perceived usability, perceived privacy, and perceived benefit. Subsequently, technological trials of the sensor-set followed by two focus group interviews were conducted on nine independently living elderly participants at a senior welfare center in South Korea. Consistent with previous studies, the results of this investigation indicate that elderly participants elicited negative responses regarding usability complexity, and discomfort to daily activities. Despite such negative responses, after acquiring enough awareness about the ISHS’s benefits, the elderly acknowledged its necessity and showed a high level of willingness. Furthermore, these results indicate that for a better adoption of an ISHS, sufficient awareness regarding its benefits and development of elderly-friendly smart home sensors that minimize negative responses are required.

Abstract:
This study proposes a framework for green remodeling for the elderly that emphasizes the role of designers and the notion of aging in place. Energy efficiency is critical for older persons because many of them spend more time at home and are less likely to heat and cool their homes appropriately. Improving the energy performance of the elderly’s housing by green remodeling could promote energy efficiency and healthy living for the elderly. Based on remodeling components derived from related work, key factors to be considered regarding the remodeling for the elderly were investigated. A framework for green remodeling enabling energy efficiency was developed for home upgrades for the elderly. Identifying the area of application and critical components for energy efficiency helps improve the energy performance for the elderly. This study is significant because it considers the elderly’s characteristics and experiences in the development of a sustainable remodeling process rather than new-building construction.

Abstract:
Lacking human-computer collaborative capability is one of the key problems commonly faced by the existing escort robots. To this end, a helping elderly escort interactive system based on reverse active integration of multimodal intentions (MES) is proposed in this paper in response to the elderly’s decline in language expression ability, memory, and other abilities. This system can understand the intention of the elderly based on scene perception and three-modal information: speech, gesture, and posture. In detail, the system can extract the interactive intention from the nondeterministic multimodal data input by the elderly and evaluate the trust degree of the extracted intention. The evaluation of intention trust degree is such a process that the system autonomously judges the feasibility of the elderly’s intention and corrects the wrong intention expressed by the elderly due to memory decline by reverse thinking of “find reasons based on the results”; when the intention cannot be extracted, the system will take the initiative to ask the elderly for enhanced information conducive to the intention extraction, so as to quickly and correctly extract the interactive intention of the elderly. This design aims at improving the quality of elderly care, making the interaction between the elderly and the robot more natural, improving the accuracy in intention extraction from fuzzy expression, as well as breaking the traditional “master-slave” human-computer interaction and improving the harmony of human-computer interaction. Further, the implementation principle of the system is detailed, and the system is evaluated in this paper. The evaluation experiment was conducted by a robot Pepper embedded with the system. Through experiments, it is verified that Pepper can quickly and accurately get the real intention of the elderly in the interaction with the elderly. In a challenging environment (such as the unclear expression of the elderly), it can still correctly extract the real intention of the elderly with an accuracy of 97% and can effectively avoid the wrong intention expressed by the elderly. This puts forward a valuable research path for the challenge in human-computer collaborative interaction.

Abstract:
The paper presents an inventory of the activities of the elderly before and after retirement. The objectives of this paper are: to identify and analyse the activities of the elderly before retirement; to identify and analyse the activities of the elderly after retirement; to analyse the dynamics of the elderly’s roles; to build the intervention plans in relation to the elderly’s activities in correlation with the roles played by them. The interview is the method used in data collection and the results are obtained from the qualitative analysis of the data: inventory of answers, their classification into categories, coding of answers and their interpretation. The schedule of activities and the typology of activities have changed radically after retirement and the satisfaction of the elderly in relation to these activities varies depending on the health problems, depending on the financial difficulties and the relationships that the elderly have with the family. Most of the elderly people interviewed say that they try to stay active and satisfy their desires even if it is more difficult for them due to their health condition. They focus on helping and supporting the family, and they feel great satisfaction when it comes to helping them.

Abstract:
Digital elderly care service is an innovative elderly care model, and its emergence has brought about a huge change in the field of elderly care services (ECSS). The current method is to make the elderly care service more precise and personalized, improve the ability and level, and improve the current ECSS. The defect is that the short of top-level design and overall planning is basically only in the state of trial operation. In order to solve these problems, this paper proposes to study how to intervene in social work in smart ECSS to enhance service capabilities and improve service quality on the original basis. Therefore, based on the use of human-computer interaction technology, this paper deepens the research on the current elderly care services. According to a survey of the elderly in a certain city, the digital elderly care system shows that 25.33% of the elderly prefer to use housekeeping services, and 63% of the elderly prefer healthcare services. The results show that the digital elderly care service system based on human-computer interaction technology is easier to be accepted by the elderly than the traditional elderly care service. The elderly care service system under human-computer interaction is more considerate than the traditional elderly care service system and can make the elderly’s life more colorful.

Household debt in Thailand has become a serious problem, particularly for the elderly, because they have less ability to pay debts compared to the working population. Therefore, better understanding of the elderly’s debt and delinquency is crucial in policy formulation for the aged society. Previous works have focused on the elderly’s debt, either at the macro or individual levels. Little is known about geographic differences at the regional level. Knowing where the elderly debt and delinquency tend to cluster could guide area-specific policies to tackle the elderly financial stability. This research aims to examine the spatio-temporal distribution of the debt and delinquency of the near-elderly population (age 50–59) and the elderly (age 60 and above) using data from the National Credit Bureau of Thailand from 2008 to 2019. The analysis focuses on various types of loans. Spatial clusters are identified by Moran’s I and Local Geary statistics. The results show that the pattern of elderly debt and delinquency generally follows the life cycle hypothesis, except for credit card and business-related loans. There exist spatial clusters and spatial differences in different types of loans, suggesting regional heterogeneities that require area-specific policy responses.

Abstract:
Increased life expectancy is in line with the increase in the number of elderly people from year to year. Elderly has many changes in the body. Changes in the body's system cause a lot of decrease in physical ability. The most dangerous and high risk space for the elderly is the bathroom. The bathroom is dangerous due to a decrease in physical ability which causes the safety of the elderly during activities such as defecation using a squat Water closet (WC). The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the characteristics of respondents and the satisfaction of the elderly using squat toilets. This research method uses descriptive correlation with cross sectional approach. The total population is 73 elderly in the Tanjung Pinang nursing home. The sample of this study was 43 elderly using simple random sampling technique. The analysis used is frequency, percentage and chisquare. This study also showed that sex and height were not related to satisfaction with the use of squatting lavatories, but age and weight had a relationship with the satisfaction of the elderly using squat toilets. The results of this study recommend the use of a sitting Water Closet that is comfortable and safe for the elderly. Abstract:
It has become an inevitable trend for China to enter an aging society. The rapid growth of the elderly population has placed a huge burden on the existing medical system. Existing telemedicine APPs do not take into account the characteristics and preferences of the elderly. In order to help the elderly better accept and use the telemedicine system and improve user satisfaction. It is proposed to optimize the telemedicine interface design based on the double diamond model, and the design process around the four stages of exploration, definition, development and interaction is explained in detail. Through semi-structured interviews with the elderly and designers, the user needs of the elderly for telemedicine and the design elements, tools and methods of the telemedicine interface for the elderly were obtained. Draw a user experience journey map and conduct telemedicine interface design practice for the elderly. Improve the elderly’s experience of using telemedicine, improve the comfort performance of products, and promote the development of the elderly health industry.

Abstract:
In the context of rapid population aging, Beijing is facing great challenges in providing healthcare services for the elderly. The objective of this study is to measure the spatial accessibility of the elderly to healthcare services in Beijing. A major challenge is that healthcare services are not exclusive for the elderly, so the elderly must compete with the non-elderly for access to healthcare services. In this study, we have developed a multi-mode and variable-demand two-step floating catchment area model for measuring spatial accessibility of the elderly to healthcare services, taking into account the competition between the elderly and non-elderly. This is modeled by differences in demand intensity and mobility. The elderly have a higher demand intensity and are disadvantaged in mobility due to their higher dependence on public transportation than the non-elderly. To improve the elderly’s healthcare accessibility, more healthcare resources should be allocated and the public transportation to hospitals should be improved, especially in peripheral areas. The proposed model can also be applied in other scenarios considering multiple population groups with different demand intensity for public services and mobility.
