Abstract:
The paper presents an annotated parallel Slovene-English corpus developed in the scope of the EU ELAN project. The IJS-ELAN corpus was compiled to be a widely distributable dataset for language engineering and for translation and terminology studies. The corpus contains 1 million words from fifteen recent terminology-rich texts. The corpus is sentence aligned and word-tagged with context disambiguated morphosyntactic descriptions and lemmas. These descriptions model simple feature structures, the structure of which is shared between Slovene and English. The corpus is encoded according to the Guidelines for Text Encoding and Interchange and is freely available on the Web for downloading. Additionally, access to IJS-ELAN is available via a powerful Web concordancer.

Abstract:
The translation of English news means the process of converting news articles published in English into another language. These articles may also be referred to as English news. This process comprises understanding the substance of the source article and accurately translating its tone and intent into the target language. A human translator or machine translation software can be used to perform the translation manually. In the disciplines of software globalization and technological translation, the Human-Machine Mutual Translation technique has grown significantly with the advancement of civilization and the quickening growth of research and innovation. Because of this practical need, translators have begun to focus more on machine translation and have conducted some productive research in this area. As a result, we suggested the EUDICO Linguistic Annotator (ELAN) in Human-Machine mutual translation of English for the news. EUDICO stands for European Distributed Corpora Project. The Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics created the EUDICO Linguistic Annotator as a software program for the linguistic annotation of language data. For this study, the English news dataset was used. The data were pre-processed by using normalization. The results were evaluated using performance metrics such as translation quality, precision, BLEU, recall, and computation time. The findings show that the recommended procedure provides an accurate translation of English news when compared to previously used methods. The results demonstrated that translation quality and computation time of proposed model are 95% and 60s respectively.

Abstract:
Documenting the languages and cultures and managing the data is firm basis of the future interdisciplinary researches. This gains even more importance for endangered and unexplored languages. The paper deals with the issues connected to the usage of Modern Program Packages (Flex and Elan) vividly and professionally for interdisciplinary researches, advantages and unique abilities of them. The work provides the information about the principles of Doculinguistics and about the modern standards of documentation. The issue of fitting Georgian, as an agglutinative Language to the international standards so that its nature is truly revealed, appears to be a challenging task. The cooperative scientific project “Linguocultural Digiarchive” was implemented by Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University and Frankfurt Goethe University. It was created using the modern framework standards of documentation and archiving in Elan and FLEx formats. FLEX is able to show the essential peculiarities of the language and to show the ways of fragmentation and the functions of morphemes: various existing wordforms, kind of gramma, semantic and pragmatic categories. FLEx as a modern package of managing the language data gives an unique opportunity to show the diversity of language materials and to synchronically and diachronically study a wide range of issues; to check the scientific hypothesis; to create new lexicons; to describe the paradigm of declension and conjugation; to create the grammar framework; to give automatic analysis of the data, to create a united standard.

Abstract:
Since the late 1990s, the technical group at the Max-Planck-Institute for Psycholinguistics has worked on solutions for important challenges in building sustainable data archives, in particular, how to guarantee long-time-availability of digital research data for future research. The support for the well-known DOBES (Documentation of Endangered Languages) programme has greatly inspired and advanced this work, and lead to the ongoing development of a whole suite of tools for annotating, cataloguing and archiving multi-media data. At the core of the LAT (Language Archiving Technology) tools is the IMDI metadata schema, now being integrated into a larger network of digital resources in the European CLARIN project. The multi-media annotator ELAN (with its web-based cousin ANNEX) is now well known not only among documentary linguists. We aim at presenting an overview of the solutions, both achieved and in development, for creating and exploiting sustainable digital data, in particular in the area of documenting languages and cultures, and their interfaces with related other developments.

Abstract:
Climate change causes water shortage (water scarcity) in addition to the dams built by neighboring countries, which caused a lack of Iraq's water share. Therefore, evaluating the irrigation system requires considering its suitability, adequacy, and efficiency. Irrigation is considered adequate when it maintains water availability within the root zone, and if the amount to be added is determined, irrigation efficiency becomes possible by avoiding water loss. Babil Governorate is considered one of the agricultural governorates in the country that depends on its irrigation from Shatt Al-Hilla. The study area is the Elaj project. Three fields were selected for the project (B1, B2, and B3). These fields are located at the project's beginning, middle and end. The evaluation was based on the field measurements of water contents before and after watering during the growing season. Also, the root zone of each plant during the growing season is measured to give more accurate calculations. Accordingly, application efficiency, conveyance efficiency, distribution efficiency, storage efficiency, water productivity efficiency, and water use efficiency were calculated in the project. The application efficiency for the selected fields ranged between (33 to 39) % in B1, (32 to 38) % in B2, and (32 to 39) % in B3. The application efficiency in all fields increased by about 6% during the third watering period between (22/3/2021 to 4/4/2021) due to the low water level in Shatt Al-Hilla during maintenance work that lasted more than a month. The efficiency of the scheme [ηs%] in the project is 32.3%. This value is low and reflects the reality of irrigation in the Babil. Therefore, improvements must be made to the irrigation system.

Abstract:
Abstract The presence of tissue-resident memory T-cells (TRM) in solid tumors positively correlates with an improved overall prognosis and responsiveness to checkpoint inhibitor therapy. Rationally designed vaccine approaches capable of inducing antitumor TRM at cancer sites are needed to harness the full potential of localized immunity in tumor therapy. Our project aims to establish tumor antigen-specific lung TRM by mucosal vaccination with an adenoviral (Ad) vaccine to prevent and treat lung metastasis in the murine 4T1 breast cancer model. We employ Ad serotype 5 vectors encoding for 4T1 tumor-associated antigens from Mage-b and MuLV gp70 for intranasal vaccination, supplemented with an Interleukin-1β-encoding vector to specifically boost lung TRM induction. Indeed, particularly if Ad-IL-1β was co-delivered, mucosal vaccination established high numbers of tumor antigen-specific CD69 +CD103 +lung TRM as shown by phenotypic and functional analyses in combination with intravascular staining. Vaccine efficacy was evaluated in a 4T1 pseudometastasis model mimicking a prophylactic vaccination against lung metastasis in breast cancer patients. Local immunization led to a significant protection against pulmonary metastasis and improved survival compared to non-vaccinated and, notably, intramuscularly immunized mice. By using FTY720 to inhibit T-cell circulation upon tumor challenge, we confirmed that TRM are crucial contributors to the vaccine efficacy. In conclusion, induction of tumor-antigen specific lung TRM are a key point in local protection against pulmonary metastasis. Ongoing studies analyze the therapeutic use of this vaccination strategy as well as its potential in combination with immune checkpoint inhibition. Abstract:
My paper draws on the action-research project “Bioethics with the Caregivers” which I participated in as member of the Applied Ethics and Bioethics Team of the Urbino University. The project focused on the caring experiences of spouses, parents and siblings whose dear ones suffered from nondemential neurodegenerative diseases. It was led with and by caregivers rather than on or for them, and brought to light philosophy's irreplaceable role as a critical and dialogic toolbox in dealing with unexplored and/or unaddressed needs. This paper shows how a philosophical approach to caregiving in neurodegenerative diseases puts the more general dynamics of interdependence under a magnifying glass for questioning the priority of the autonomy principle and revaluing outmoded frames of mind and assumptions. The hope is that a more informed and open-minded approach to out-of-the-ordinary conditions can contribute towards a breaking down of the fears which prevent an appreciation of the richness of difference.

Abstract:
The present paper explores the use of language teaching for educating students into becoming digitally-literate citizens, as well as conscious, active members of the digital universe. The material discussed derives from the eLang project, a flagship project of the European Centre for Modern Languages. The guidelines, and real-world and reflexive tasks put together by the eLang team of experts, along with the theoretical framework employed are examined with respect to the notion of semiosphere by Juri M. Lotman, and the way this endorses digital transformation in language education. Seen, thus, as partaking in the digital semiosphere, and at the same time in the multiplicity of the semiotic systems ingrained in it, the current language student and future citizen assumes different roles, interacts with distinct as well as overlapping communities, is asked to make sense of multimodal resources, so as to eventually acquire far more than the skills of a digital user. The eLang material addresses, in this way, the demand for training language students in the multifarious literacies that digital literacy has come to encompass. The language student overrides, thus, classroom topography and the boundaries of conventional language education, and traces those of the globalised digital semiosphere, within which it cannot but soar.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract The theme of the specificity of medical causes in the Greco-Roman world is part of a wider research project on the notion of causality, the starting point of which is Aristotle and his seminal theorisation of the four causes. It therefore seemed useful to introduce this collection with a synthetic presentation of the Aristotelian conception of medicine, which is characterised by the knowledge of causes and represents a paradigm for the other arts and practical knowledge.

Abstract:
Background:Excessive activation of fibroblasts with a TGFβ-biased gene signature and deposition of extracellular matrix are key features of fibrotic diseases. The mechanisms underlying these transcriptional changes remain poorly understood. Deregulation, mutations and malfunctions of transcriptional co-regulators, which can interact with multiple transcription factors and enable a broad-spectrum regulation of transcriptional networks, have been implicated as driving factors in a large number of diseases and pathologies. Objectives:In the present study, we aimed to analyze the role of the co-regulator Nuclear Receptor Co-Activator 3 (NCOA3) in fibroblast activation and tissue fibrosis, and to evaluate a potential interaction of NCOA3 with fibrosis-relevant transcription factors.Methods:NCOA3 was inhibited genetically by siRNA transfection and pharmacologically by the SRC3 inhibitor-2 (SI-2). We performed bulk RNASeq of human dermal fibroblasts and in silico transcription factor binding site screening of differentially expressed genes (DEGs). The interaction of NCOA3 and TGFβ-SMAD signaling was analyzed by reporter and CoIP assays. Results:The expression of NCOA3 in skin biopsies of SSc patients compared to normal controls demonstrated that SSc fibroblasts express modestly, but significantly reduced levels of NCOA3, which persisted in cultured SSc fibroblasts. Stimulation of normal fibroblasts with chronically high levels of TGFβ as they also occur in fibrotic tissue remodeling strongly decreased NCOA3 expression to a similar extent as in SSc fibroblasts. Furthermore, NCOA3 expression is also deregulated in different murine models of skin fibrosis. To investigate the functional effects of decreased NCOA3 levels, we targeted the expression of NCOA3 in normal fibroblasts. SiRNA-mediated knockdown of NCOA3 ameliorated TGFβ-induced gene expression, collagen release, myofibroblast differentiation and cell proliferation. In contrast, knockdown of NCOA3 had no effects on collagen release, expression of contractile proteins or gene expression in unstimulated fibroblasts, suggesting that NCOA3 is not required for cellular homeostasis. To characterize the molecular mechanisms, we performed RNASeq upon NCOA3 knockdown. We identified 343 significant differentially expressed genes (220 downregulated and 123 upregulated with a Benjamini-Hochberg false discovery rate FDR < 0.25 and fold change > 1.5) between TGFβ-stimulated fibroblasts with and without NCOA3 knockdown (NCOA3-DEGs) including the fibrosis-relevant genes EDNRB, COL5A3, HES1, IL11 or IL33. Functional analysis of the NCOA3-DEGs showed enrichment of pathway terms such as collagen binding and extracellular matrix organization. In silico screening of the promoters of the NCOA3-DEGs for potential transcription factor binding motifs revealed binding motifs of core transcription factors of fibroblast activation and tissue fibrosis such as SMAD2/3/4, RBPJ, ZEB1, TCF4, REL, and SNAIL2 amongst the downregulated NCOA3-DEGs. Experimental validation of our biostatistical results using SMAD3 as example demonstrated a higher percentage of NCOA3-pSMAD3 double-positive fibroblasts in skin sections of SSc patients compared to healthy controls. In addition, knockdown of NCOA3 reduced TGFβ-induced SMAD-reporter activity. Furthermore, stimulation with TGFβ increased the interaction of NCOA3 with SMAD3 as analyzed by co-immunoprecipitation. Simultaneous knockdown of NCOA3 and SMAD3 showed no additional reductions compared to the single knockdowns, suggesting that NCOA3 controls SMAD3-dependent gene transcription under fibrotic conditions. Finally, inhibition of NCOA3 showed anti-fibrotic effects in different murine models of experimental skin and lung fibrosis. Conclusion:Our findings characterize NCOA3 as regulator of multiple pro-fibrotic transcription programs. Pharmaceutical inhibition of NCOA3 might be a strategy to interfere simultaneously with several core pro-fibrotic mediators in fibrotic diseases such as SSc.Acknowledgements:We thank Lena Summa, Vladyslav Fedorchenko, Wolfgang Espach and Regina Kleinlein for excellent technical assistance. The study was funded by grants DI 1537/7-1, DI 1537/8-1, DI 1537/9-1 and -2, DI 1537/11-1, DI 1537/12-1, DI 1537/13-1, DI 1537/14-1, DI 1537/17-1, DE 2414/2-1, DE 2414/4-1, and RA 2506/3-1 of the German Research Foundation, SFB CRC1181 (project C01) and SFB TR221/ project number 324392634 (B04) of the German Research Foundation, grants J39, J40 and A64 of the IZKF in Erlangen, grant 2013.056.1 of the Wilhelm-Sander-Foundation, grants 2014_A47, 2014_A248 and 2014_A184 of the Else-Kröner-Fresenius-Foundation, grant 14-12-17-1-Bergmann of the ELAN-Foundation Erlangen, BMBF (Era-Net grant 01KT1801), MASCARA program, TP 2 and a Career Support Award of Medicine of the Ernst Jung Foundation.Disclosure of Interests:Clara Dees: None declared, Sebastian Poetter: None declared, Maximilian Fuchs: None declared, Christina Bergmann: None declared, Alexandru-Emil Matei: None declared, Andrea-Hermina Györfi: None declared, Alina Soare: None declared, Andreas Ramming: None declared, Paolo Ceppi: None declared, Georg Schett: None declared, Meik Kunz: None declared, Jörg H.W. Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
As últimas décadas testemunharam a ascensão de novos atores intermediários no sistema internacional, como as potências regionais.

Abstract:

Abstract:
<p class="Abstract"><span lang="EN-GB">A number of European projects – ELAN (2006), Dylan (2006-2011), CELAN (2011-2013) – have confirmed the importance of multilingualism in the workplace. They provide evidence that a multilingual environment increases the diversity and the quality of projects, while monolingualism can mean a loss of markets. Since the ‘80s, English as a lingua franca (ELF) has been accepted as the international business language. Although English is not considered a threat to multilingualism (House, 2002, 2003), tensions exist between these two forms of communication: ELF and multilingualism. In this paper, I present an analysis of Airbus employee interviews using argument formulas (Anscombre, Ducrot, 1983). The initial analysis of what is said before and after the connector “but/pero/aber/mais” within interviews in four languages indicates tensions between the use of English and multilingual exchanges in daily work activities. The combination of “enunciation frames” (Charolles, 1997) and the role of personal pronouns (Benveniste, 1974) shows that the employees adapt their communication according to workplace structures: they tend to use English at an executive or a departmental level, while at team and face-to-face levels their communication benefits from multilingual skills. </span></p><p class="Abstract"> </p>

Abstract:
The following article proposes a critical analysis on the constitution of the Brazilian geopolitical imagery, stretching from the time of Brazil’s independence to the beginning of the 21st century. More specifically, the text recognises the impact of the country’s colonial past on Brazil’s prevalent geopolitical thinking. That, along with the significance of certain geopolitical thinkers, theoretical approaches and specific socio-political contexts, would explain why factors such as the need to have a state-led plan that promotes integration in furtherance of progress, and Brazil’s hegemonic overreach at the regional and global levels, have been historically dominant in the Brazilian geopolitical vision. Similarly, it is argued that the concern to achieve an effective unification of the national territory, by means of carrying out projects to populate the Amazon, featured predominantly in the geopolitical strategies of Brazilian leaders. These strategies brought about effects visible within and beyond Brazil’s borders, the latter as regional integration initiatives.

Abstract:
The staff members and students of the Estonian Native Crafts Department at the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy participated in an international project that aimed at expanding the competences of arts and crafts professionals with the aim of seeking more effective co-operation with the welfare system for elderly people. This Erasmus Plus project ‘Handmade Wellbeing – Collaborative Learning in Craft and Welfare Interfaces’ was funded by the European Union and ran from September 2015 to August 2017. Welfare institutions for the elderly will soon be faced by an ever-increasing and more informed generation of customers who will place a greater value on creative and active leisure activities, and who will not be content with domestic and medical care alone. This sphere is a promising new field of work for craftsmen and artists, but also one which requires special training. The project was carried out by the University of Helsinki in Finland (the leading partner), the Estonian Native Crafts Department at the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy, UniT Kunstlabor (an art group from Austria), and the UK-based non-profit organisation, Superact. All the participants trained arts and crafts professionals in order to prepare them for working with elderly people at welfare institutions. The co operation partners were also invited to participate in week-long training sessions organised by each country. These visits helped in coming to understand different local approaches morefully. The discussions that took place during the international training weeks also determined the conceptualisation and structure of the handbook. In fact, the aim of the project was to exchange valuable experiences in order to learn from them. The end result is a manual and study aid that belongs to the field of education science and is useful for both the craftsmen who work with elderly people and also for welfare institutions. Each country also hosted a seminar and an exhibition which were open to the general public. During the practical phase of the project, each country organised creative and hands-on workshops for the elderly. The objectives and topics of these workshops covered a broad spectrum: among the most popular ones were various handicraft and DIY workshops, but contemporary art and performing arts projects also took place. Each co-operation partner enhanced the project with their unique approach and shared their best practices, something which resulted in efficient and intriguing teaching methods. In Estonia, the workshops took place between September and December 2016 at two different types of elderly care facilities: the day centres in Viljandi and Tartu, and the nursing homes in Viiratsi and Nõo. The workshops were organised by the lecturers Kersti Rattus and Eilve Manglus and the students Indrek Ikkonen and Elen Tammet. The activities varied in their degree of difficulty: the elderly participants tried textile printing, metalwork, ribbon-plaiting, and badge-making. Handmade Wellbeing brought together an enthusiastic international team. The greatest advantage of this educational model was its comparative perspective and hands-on approach. The generalisations stemming from the experience of international co-operation resulted in a handbook that is accessible to a large audience. Reflection on methods led to the drawing up of concise instructions other arts and crafts professionals can use to prepare themselves physically and mentally when doing similar work. On the one hand, the handbook gives a step-by-step guide to preparing and conducting a workshop, and on the other it adresses ways of relating to elderly people, including how to identify one’s prejudices and even stereotypes. Abstract:

Abstract:
A pilot project was designed to measure the effectiveness of utilizing traditional birth attendants ( hilots) as family planning motivators in the Philippines. A total of 492 hilots underwent a one-week training program in maternal and child health and family planning. Following the training, a quasi-experimental design was used to test the effects of training alone, training plus supervision, and the combination of training, supervision and a monetary incentive on family planning activities. In addition to these three program inputs, the type of training method was also assessed to determine its relationship on post-training knowledge scores and field performance. Analysis of the one-year program statistics indicated that a combination of training methods (lecture, audio-visual demonstrations, and role-playing) significantly increased both test performance and field performance. Hilots who received supervision recruited twice as many acceptors as hilots who received only the training input ( p <.01). Adding a monetary incentive did not significantly increase the average monthly number of acceptors recruited. Cost effectiveness of the three experimental approaches are contrasted with each other as well as with the national program utilizing family planning motivators.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Engineers ultimately work in multi-disciplinary workplaces, yet degree structures and siloing of subjects typically prevent students from interacting with those outside of their own discipline. As products and technology become increasingly complex, engineers can no longer do design in isolation. Learning designs need to mirror real world complex team projects. In this project we provide an example of how Design-Based Research can be used as a meta methodology to design a learning experience that is implemented through a design-based collaborative student team project. An important part of the design process is to understand the interface with other disciplines of engineering and be able to specify appropriate requirements and verify that those requirements are being met. If these groups of students do not interact while at university, they are ill-prepared to do such design across disciplinary boundaries in the workplace. Moreover, if they are incapable of being able to formally specify what they require from other engineers, then they would not be able to verify that the design meets those specifications. This capstone project seeks to address these issues through the following objectives: Develop a multi-disciplinary team design project that can be rolled out to two core, candidate subjects in different departments in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT); Develop appropriate learning activities that support the project and promote cohort interaction outside of traditional discipline / departmental boundaries; Design relevant feedback and evaluation mechanisms in order to monitor student team progress and gauge the effectiveness of the approach in building cohort, enhancing student graduate outcomes and employability skills; Enhance students’ communication and project management skills; Expose students to real-world engineering practices through the involvement of an industry partner in the scoping and design process. The project takes a Design-based Research (DBR) (McKenney and Reeves, 2019) approach that aligns with the four stages of DBR that is mirrored in both the design of the learning experience and in the student design project itself: Analysis – problem identification (Threshold Concepts: transdisciplinary collaboration, authentic learning), literature review, establishment of a collaborative learning design team Design prototype intervention (design of authentic learning environment) Evaluation (implementation of prototype with stakeholders – students/industry partner) - Re-Design / Evaluation Iterative Loop Development of Transferable Design Principles for designing authentic (real world) transdisciplinary learning environments in collaboration with industry Designing a speaker system, which contains electrical and mechanical systems that interact in a complex transfer of energy from electrical to mechanical to acoustic energy, is an inherently multidisciplinary endeavour consisting of both electrical and mechanical engineering concepts. This project will be completed by two capstone teams, one with a mechanical engineering focus and one with an electrical engineering focus, that will closely interact with each other in order to produce a working speaker system that will be tested and evaluated by an industry partner, creating an authentic learning experience (Herrington et al., 2014). A particular speaker application will first be chosen by the project teams (e.g. PA speaker, bookshelf speaker, instrument speaker, studio monitor), with corresponding design goals to be determined by the team. Teams will be required to select appropriate speaker drivers, supplied by the industry partner, to form the basis of electrical and mechanical design of the (minimum) two-driver speaker system utilising established design principles (Theile, 1971a, 1971b; Small, 1972, 1973a, 1973b). The Speaker System Design (Electrical) project team will focus on designing the electrical / electronic side of the speaker system, including modelling, building and testing both passive and active types of crossovers in order to achieve the required performance for the chosen application and consider aspects such as frequency domain performance, power, heat and cost. The electrical project team must interface with the mechanical project team to understand the mechanical characteristics of the enclosure that the speaker is being placed in to design their crossovers. The Speaker System Design (Mechanical) project team will focus on designing the mechanical / acoustic side of the speaker system, including designing, modelling low frequency response, building and testing a suitable enclosure to minimise vibrations and diffraction and ensure suitable performance characteristics for the chosen application consider aspects such as exterior construction materials, geometry of the design, high frequency diffusion patterns, venting and interior absorption materials to minimise resonances. The mechanical project team must interface with the electrical project team to understand the characteristics of the speaker-driving circuitry to design a suitable enclosure. The main pedagogical outcomes of the project are to give electrical and mechanical engineering students a real world experience of transdisciplinary collaboration. We will use pre/post student questionnaires and post project focus groups to evaluate the impact of the project on the student learning experience. University ethics consent will be applied for, involving participant consent and information forms, and anonymous data collection. This presentation will introduce the first two phases of the Design-Based Research project as an example of implementing DBR to design authentic learning – the pedagogical problem analysis, and the proposed prototype educational design capstone project. Abstract:
This paper aims to present the features of the Balkan cooperation of the left political forces during the years of World War II, respectively the project of the Balkan Headquarters, in the view of the Albanian communists. The idea of Balkan co-operation spread to all communist movements in the Balkan countries, the most active was the Yugoslav Communist Party, which aimed to create a "Balkan Headquarter" under the conditions of war and a "Balkan Federation" after its end. At the end of 1942, the Yugoslav Communist leadership established contacts with the Communist Parties of Bulgaria, Greece and Albania to coordinate actions in the fight against Nazi fascist forces. Taking in consideration that the Albanian communists had the orientation compass in those years the Yugoslavs, under their influence, tried to achieve the objectives of this project as far as possible. Thus within the anti-fascist alliance but also under the Yugoslav directives, especially during the German occupation, the links and cooperation between the Albanian national liberation movement and the liberation movements of Yugoslavia and Greece intensified, especially in the border areas. With the EAM and the National Liberation Army of Greece (ELAS), an important area of cooperation was the Konispol region and generally Cameria. Pursuant to the agreement reached between the General Council of the Albanian National Liberation Army and the Greek National Liberation Front, they were sent to these representative areas on both sides to propagate the common war goals in the population and to mobilize them in the mutual partisan formations. But it should be noted that the Albanian National Liberation Army combative co-operation with ELAS was limited. Within the framework of cooperation with the Yugoslav National Liberation Army, several joint operations have been undertaken, especially in border areas. The fact that Kosovo Albanians are engaged in the national liberation movement, which has contributed to the increase of cooperation in these areas, should be considered. Cooperation between the two liberation movements has been more visible in Macedonia's area. This paper aims to present the features of the Balkan cooperation of the left political forces during the years of World War II, respectively the project of the Balkan Headquarters, in the view of the Albanian communists. During the research work of this case study, the qualitative method was generally applied by conducting a research: collecting, descriptive and explanatory, based mostly on historical facts and literature analysis.

Abstract:
Abstract The aim of this article is to explore the influence of cultural values on the design and communicative style of British graphic advertisements for food and beverages, particularly in relation to Hall’s context dependence and Hofstede’s individualism index. The motivation for this study comes from the increasing importance of international trade and cross-cultural and intercultural communication strategies. Additionally, previous research projects (ELISE, ELUCIDATE, ELAN) have emphasized the dramatic effect the lack of these skills has on business effectiveness. Therefore, Guillén-Nieto’s correlations model between culture-specific and language-specific behaviour (2009) was adopted, and 100 British advertisements were collected and analyzed. First, a qualitative examination of the sample using ATLAS.ti and SPSS software tried to identify any patterns present in the sample. Second, the realization of the aforementioned patterns was considered. The results of these analyses highlight the fact that the language-specific behaviour associated with context dependence is clearly visible in the sample, whereas the individualism index does not seem to be as influential in the design of press advertisements for food in the UK. Finally, some guidelines are provided in order to aid international companies in advertising their products more effectively in the UK.

Abstract:
This report examines the challenges of conducting a multicenter, cross-sectional study of countries with diverse cultures, and shares the lessons learned. The Latin American Study of Nutrition and Health (ELANS) was used as a feasibility study involving the most populous cities of eight countries in Latin America (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela) in 2014–2015, about 40% of the population of the Americas. The target sample included 9 000 individuals, 15–65 years of age, and was stratified by geographic location (only urban areas), gender, age, and socioeconomic status. Six principal challenges were identified: team structuring and site selections; developing a single protocol; obtaining ethic approvals; completing simultaneous fieldwork; ensuring data quality; and extracting data and maintaining consistency across databases. Lessons learned show that harmonization, pilot study, uniformity of procedures, high data quality control, and communication and collaboration across sites are imperative. Barriers included organizational complexity, recruitment of collaborators and research staff, institutional cooperation, development of infrastructure, and identification of resources. Consensus on uniform measures and outcomes and data collection methodology, as well as a plan for data management and analysis, communication, publication, and dissemination of study results should be in place prior to beginning fieldwork. While challenging, such studies offer great potential for building a scientific base for studies on nutrition, physical activity, and other health topics, while facilitating comparisons among countries.
