Abstract:
Purpose. This study was designed to assess retinal and optic nerve bioelectrical function in patients with unilateral asymptomatic but hemodynamically significant internal carotid artery stenosis (ICAS).Methods. Forty-two subjects with a diagnosis of unilateral ICAS and 34 controls were analyzed. Full-field electroretinogram (ERG), pattern electroretinogram (PERG), and pattern visual-evoked potentials, as well as optical coherence tomography and ophthalmological examination, were performed. Data analysis included eyes ipsilateral to ICAS (EIS) and eyes contralateral to ICAS (ECS).Results. Intraocular pressure was significantly decreased in EIS and ECS compared to that in the controls. In the macula, both the cube average thickness and cube volume values were significantly reduced both in EIS and ECS compared to those in the controls. Similarly, PERG P50 and N95 wave amplitudes were significantly smaller in EIS and ECS compared to those in the controls. The ERG rod b-wave and rod-cone a-wave amplitudes were decreased, and implicit times were significantly prolonged, whereas the OP wave index was reduced in EIS compared to that in the controls. No differences in IOP, OCT, or ERG and PERG parameters were identified between EIS and ECS.Conclusions.Our study demonstrated that retinal bioelectrical function is negatively affected by ICAS despite the absence of objective clinical signs and symptoms of ocular ischemia.

Abstract:
The field of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has been studied for decades and applied in several countries, including Brazil, since its regimentation in 1986. In this research, EIA study approach focused on the analysis of procedural issues concerning, specifically, the quality of the Environmental Impact Study (EIS). The general objective of this inquiry was to assess the quality of the EIS on the duplication of Transbrasiliana Highway, BR 153, on the stretch of the city of São José do Rio Preto, state of São Paulo - Brazil, identifying its gaps and best practices by means of the application of the European Community checklist created to review environmental impact studies, the Guidance on EIA - EIS Review. This study is qualitative in nature and had its data collected by means of public documents obtained from DNIT (National Traffic Department) and of information available in several websites. The process of data generation occurred through a questionnaire sent to a regional environmental expert. The analysis of the data showed that the referred EIS had gaps especially in areas such as description of the project, mitigation and alternatives - fields whose marks coincide with the ones found in studies done using the same guidelines in countries such as Spain, Portugal and Estonia. Besides, it was possible to identify new information about the project and about environmental impacts through the questionnaire sent to the environmental expert.

Abstract:
Abstract Dynastic models common in macroeconomics use a single parameter to control the willingness of individuals to substitute consumption both intertemporally, or across periods, and intergenerationally, or across parents and their children. This article defines the concept of elasticity of intergenerational substitution (EGS), and extends a standard dynastic model in order to disentangle the EGS from the EIS, or elasticity of intertemporal substitution. A calibrated version of the model lends strong support to the notion that the EGS is significantly larger than one. In contrast, estimates of the EIS suggests that it is at most one. What disciplines the identification is the need to match empirically plausible fertility rates for the U.S. We illustrate the potential role of the EGS in macroeconomics.

Abstract:
Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is used to evaluate the resistive state of an electrode surface. EIS is growing more popular in evaluating materials for biosensors and energy applications. In the case of biosensors, EIS can passively evaluate the binding event of a biomolecule to a surface recognition element. We have studied EIS inconsistent measurements from a bare carbon electrode under various conditions to evaluate the associated drift over multiple runs.[1] Without changing any variables run-to-run, a measurable drift can be expressed linearly or as a Langmuir isotherm over multiple measurements. The total change in charge transfer resistance is dependent on the solution and media, including the choice of surfactant used to solubilize various analytes. Herein we will report our progress of EIS measurements from multiple different surfaces including peptides, polymers, and bare electrodes. We found that drift can be associated with specific surface changes (decoupling of surface modification or changes in surface states) and adsorbing of solution media to the surface. In the case of the bare electrode, surfactant and solution choice is important to minimize drift and increase confidence in run-to-run measurements. Abstract:
The Rv2416c gene of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) encodes the enhanced intracellular survival (Eis) protein that enhances intracellular survival of the pathogen in host macrophages during infection. The Eis protein is secreted by Mtb into the cytoplasm of the phagocyte during intracellular infection and modulates the host immune response. It was shown to confer resistance to aminoglycosides by acetylation. Interestingly, nonpathogenic Mycobacterium smegmatis (Msm) contains a homologous eis gene (MSMEG_3513) that encodes a homolog of Mtb Eis. We discovered that Mtb Eis is an Nε-acetyltransferase, acetylating Lys55 of DUSP16/MKP-7, a JNK-specific phosphatase, whereas Msm Eis is an Nα-acetyltransferase (Kim et al., 2012). We also reported that Msm Eis acetylated the aminoglycosides as quickly as, or more rapidly than, Mtb Eis (Kim et al., 2012). Here we present the crystal structure of Msm Eis in the paromomycin-bound form. This structure provides a detailed structural view of the interactions between paromomycin and Msm Eis. Glu137 and Gly401 of Msm Eis are key residues that interact with paromomycin. Our work may facilitate a structure-guided discovery of Mtb Eis inhibitors as a novel anti-TB drug.

Abstract:
The corrosion performance of AISI-309 exposed 5 days to molten salts 50 mol% V2O5-50 mol% Na2SO4at 700°C is reported in this paper. Such evaluation was made using three electrochemical techniques: potentiodynamic polarization curve (PC), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and linear polarization resistance (Rp). FromPC, the Tafel slopes,Icorr, andEcorrwere obtained. From Nyquist and Bode plots, it was possible to determine two different stages; the first one showed just one loop, which indicated the initial formation of Cr2O3layer over the metallic surface; after that, the dissolution of Cr2O3formed a porous layer, which became part of the corrosion products; at the same time a NiO layer combined with sulfur was forming, which was suggested as the second stage, represented by two capacitive loops. EIS plots were in agreement with the physical characterization made from SEM and EDS analyses. Fitting of EIS experimental data allowed us to propose two electrical circuits, being in concordance with the corrosion stages. Parameters obtained from the simulation of EIS data are also reported. From the results, it was stated that AISI-309 suffered intergranular corrosion due to the presence of sulfur, which diffused to the metallic surface through a porous Cr2O3layer.

Abstract:
Introduction: Over the last 30 years, early intervention services (EIS) for first-episode psychosis (FEP) were gradually implemented in the province of Quebec. Such implementation occurred without provincial standards/guidelines and policy commitment to EIS until 2017. Although the literature highlights essential elements for EIS, studies conducted elsewhere reveal that important EIS components are often missing. No thorough review of Quebec EIS practices has ever been conducted, a gap we sought to address. Methods: Adopting a cross-sectional descriptive study design, an online survey was distributed to 18 EIS that existed in Quebec in 2016 to collect data on clinical, administrative, training, and research variables. Survey responses were compared with existing EIS service delivery recommendations. Results: Half of Quebec’s population had access to EIS, with some regions having no programs. Most programs adhered to essential components of EIS. However, divergence from expert recommendations occurred with respect to variables such as open referral processes and patient–clinician ratio. Nonurban EIS encountered additional challenges related to their geography and lower population densities, which impacted their team size/composition and intensity of follow-up. Conclusions: Most Quebec EIS offer adequate services but lack resources and organizational support to adhere to some core components. Recently, the provincial government has created EIS guidelines, invested in the development of new programs and offered implementation support from the National Centre of Excellence in Mental Health. These changes, along with continued mentoring and networking of clinicians and researchers, can help all Quebec EIS to attain and maintain recommended quality standards.

The relationship between the morphology and protective action of hot-dip aluminizing coatings on Q235 steel have been investigated by SEM, EDS and EIS in 3.5 wt% NaCl aqueous solution. The results indicated that the anti-corrosion performance of the hot-dip aluminizing coatings using steel substrate rinsed by the distilled water at 25 oC was higher than that at 80 oC. The evolution of localized corrosion from pitting to exfoliation corrosion has been found on the aluminum coating surface during immersion, and corresponding equivalent circuit models were proposed to fit the EIS data in the initiation and propagation stages of corrosion process.

Abstract:
Abstract The issues of protection and management of biodiversity has become one of main environmental policy tasks in Europe and elsewhere. As an application of precautionary principles the EU member states are required to assess projects and plans which alone or in combination with other plans or projects are likely to have significant negative effects on Natura 2000 sites. Several EU provisions set out the obligations for such assessment (the Birds and Habitat Directives, EIA and SEA Directives). One of the key steps in the assessment process is to carry out the EIS (Environmental Impact Statement) the final outcome of the assessment. If there is possibility of significant negative effects on Natura 2000 sites, the result of the process also has to be a part of EIS. The main goal of this study was to find out, what are the practitioners´ opinions and attitudes on the quality of EIS in Slovakia, especially in the case when the assessment process is related to Natura 2000 sites. Because it often involves practitioners from a very wide range of disciplinary and professional backgrounds, the contribution tries to show to what extent does the professional background or practitioners working positions influence their perception of EIS quality.

Abstract:
IntroductionElectronic information systems (EIS) that implement a ‘One Health’ approach by integrating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) data across the human, animal and environmental health sectors, have been identified as a global priority. However, evidence on the availability, technical capacities and effectiveness of such EIS is scarce.MethodsThrough a qualitative synthesis of evidence, this systematic scoping review aims to: identify EIS for AMR surveillance that operate across human, animal and environmental health sectors; describe their technical characteristics and capabilities; and assess whether there is evidence for the effectiveness of the various EIS for AMR surveillance. Studies and reports between 1 January 2000 and 21 July 2021 from peer-reviewed and grey literature in the English language were included.Results26 studies and reports were included in the final review, of which 27 EIS were described. None of the EIS integrated AMR data in a One Health approach across all three sectors. While there was a lack of evidence of thorough evaluations of the effectiveness of the identified EIS, several surveillance system effectiveness indicators were reported for most EIS. Standardised reporting of the effectiveness of EIS is recommended for future publications. The capabilities of the EIS varied in their technical design features, in terms of usability, data display tools and desired outputs. EIS that included interactive features, and geospatial maps are increasingly relevant for future trends in AMR data analytics.ConclusionNo EIS for AMR surveillance was identified that was designed to integrate a broad range of AMR data from humans, animals and the environment, representing a major gap in global efforts to implement One Health approaches to address AMR.

Abstract:
Purpose To evaluate the feasibility and patient satisfaction with electrical impedance scanning (EIS) for early detection of breast cancer in young women. Methods Women undergoing screening clinical breast examination, imaging, or biopsy were eligible for EIS examination with T-Scan 2000ED (Mirabel Medical Systems, Austin, TX). Multiple logistic regression analysis evaluated the association between clinical variables and EIS performance. Patients completed a screening EIS satisfaction questionnaire (1 = least satisfied to 5 = most satisfied). Results Twenty-nine cancers were identified among 1,103 women. Sixty-six percent (19 of 29) of cancers were nonpalpable and 55% (16 of 29) were in women age ≤ 50 years. EIS sensitivity and specificity in women younger than 40 years was 50% and 90%, respectively. Exogenous estrogen use (P < .001) and menopausal status (P = .007) correlated significantly with EIS performance. False-positive rates were increased in postmenopausal women and those taking exogenous hormones. No correlation was evident between EIS performance and family history, prior breast cancer, breast density, or palpability. EIS-positive women younger than age 40 were 4.5 times more likely to have breast carcinoma than were women randomly selected from the general population. Patients were highly satisfied with the comfort, speed, and reporting of EIS screening (mean score, 4.8). Conclusion EIS seems promising for early detection of breast cancer, and identification of young women at increased risk for having the disease at time of screening. Positive EIS-associated breast cancer risk compares favorably with relative risks of conditions commonly used to justify early breast cancer screening. Patients are satisfied with a screening paradigm involving breast EIS.

Abstract:
Abstract Electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) has been used as an adjunct to colposcopy for cervical cancer diagnosis for many years, Currently, the template match method is employed for EIS measurements analysis, where the measured EIS spectra are compared with the templates generated from three-dimensional finite element (FE) models of cancerous and non-cancerous cervical tissue, and the matches between the measured EIS spectra and the templates are then used to derive a score that indicates the association strength of the measured EIS to the High-Grade Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia (HG CIN). These FE models can be viewed as the computational versions of the associated physical tissue models. In this paper, the problem is revisited with an objective to develop a new method for EIS data analysis that might reveal the relationship between the change in the tissue structure due to disease and the change in the measured spectrum. This could provide us with important information to understand the histopathological mechanism that underpins the EIS-based HG CIN diagnostic decision making and the prognostic value of EIS for cervical cancer diagnosis. A further objective is to develop an alternative EIS data processing method for HG CIN detection that does not rely on physical models of tissues so as to facilitate extending the EIS technique to new medical diagnostic applications where the template spectra are not available. An EIS data-driven method was developed in this paper to achieve the above objectives, where the EIS data analysis for cervical cancer diagnosis and prognosis were formulated as the classification problems and a Cole model-based spectrum curve fitting approach was proposed to extract features from EIS readings for classification. Machine learning techniques were then used to build classification models with the selected features for cervical cancer diagnosis and evaluation of the prognostic value of the measured EIS. The interpretable classification models were developed with real EIS data sets, which enable us to associate the changes in the observed EIS and the risk of being HG CIN or developing HG CIN with the changes in tissue structure due to disease. The developed classification models were used for HG CIN detection and evaluation of the prognostic value of EIS and the results demonstrated the effectiveness of the developed method. The method developed is of long-term benefit for EIS–based cervical cancer diagnosis and, in conjunction with standard colposcopy, there is the potential for the developed method to provide a more effective and efficient patient management strategy for clinic practice.

Abstract:
In today’s environment characterized by business dynamism and information technology (IT) advances, firms must frequently update their enterprise information systems (EIS) and their use policies to support changing business operations. In this context, users are challenged to maintain EIS compliance behavior by continuously learning new ways of using EIS. Furthermore, it is imperative to businesses that employees of a functional unit maintain EIS compliance behavior collectively, due to the interdependent nature of tasks that the unit needs to accomplish through EIS. However, it is particularly challenging to achieve such a collective level of EIS compliance, due to the difficulty that these employees may encounter in quickly learning updated EIS. It is, therefore, vital for firms to establish effective managerial principles to ensure collective EIS compliance of a functional unit in a dynamic environment. To address this challenge, this study develops a research model to explain collective EIS compliance by integrating theoretical lens on social context and performance management context with social capital theory. It proposes that social context, an organizational environment characterized by trust and support, positively affects collective EIS compliance by developing business–IT social capital that enhances mutual learning between business and IT personnel. Furthermore, the performance management context, an organizational environment characterized by discipline and “stretch,” is seen to have a direct and beneficial effect on collective EIS compliance as well as an indirect, moderating effect on the causal chain among social contexts, business–IT social capital, and collective EIS compliance. General empirical support for this research model is provided via a multiple-sourced survey of managers and employees of 159 functional units of 53 firms that use EIS, as well as their corresponding IT unit managers. The theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed.

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is one of the most important tools to elucidate the charge transfer and transport processes in various electrochemical systems including dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Even though there are many books and reports on EIS, it is often very difficult to explain the EIS spectra of DSSCs. Understanding EIS through calculating EIS spectra on spreadsheet can be a powerful approach as the user, without having any programming knowledge, can go through each step of calculation on a spreadsheet and get instant feedback by visualizing the calculated results or plot on the same spreadsheet. Here, a brief account of the EIS of DSSCs is given with fundamental aspects and their spreadsheet calculation. The review should help one to develop a basic understanding about EIS of DSSCs through interacting with spreadsheet.

Abstract:
Endocrine disruptors (EDs) are contaminants that may mimic or interfere with the body’s hormones, hampering the normal functions of the endocrine system in humans and animals. These substances, either natural or man-made, are involved in development, breeding, and immunity, causing a wide range of diseases and disorders. The traditional detection methods such as enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and chromatography are still the golden techniques for EDs detection due to their high sensitivity, robustness, and accuracy. Nevertheless, they have the disadvantage of being expensive and time-consuming, requiring bulky equipment or skilled personnel. On the other hand, early stage detection of EDs on-the-field requires portable devices fulfilling the Affordable, Sensitive, Specific, User-friendly, Rapid and Robust, Equipment free, Deliverable to end users (ASSURED) norms. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)-based sensors can be easily implemented in fully automated, sample-to-answer devices by integrating electrodes in microfluidic chips. The latest achievements on EIS-based sensors are discussed and critically assessed.

Abstract:
The initial stages of corrosion of AZ31B magnesium alloy, immersed in Ringer′s solution at 37 °C body temperature for four days, have been evaluated by independent gravimetric and chemical methods and through electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. The corrosion current densities estimated by hydrogen evolution are in good agreement with the time-integrated reciprocal charge transfer resistance values estimated by EIS. The change in the inductive behavior has been correlated with difference in the chemical composition of corrosion layers. At the shorter immersion of 2 days, EDS analysis of cross section of the uniform corrosion layer detected Cl and Al elements, perhaps as formed aluminum oxychlorides salts.

Abstract:
Corrosion of steel constitutes a major preoccupation in the field of civil engineering and the building sector. In this paper, we investigated the electrochemical behavior of two steel specimens with different forms (latched steel and smooth steel) in a 3 wt.% NaCl solution. For this purpose, we studied the steel samples by linear polarization, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The surface morphologies of the substrates were examined by scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy diffraction spectroscopy (SEM/EDS). Results of linear polarization, Tafel polarization curves and EIS show that latched steel (LS) is more susceptible to corrosion than smooth steel (SS) in saline solution. Gravimetric and SEM/EDS analysis after 10 days of immersion confirmed the results obtained by electrochemical methods. All of our results are in agreement and demonstrate that the sample form plays a key role in corrosion resistance.

Abstract:
In 2011, the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Law amendment was approved and a socio-economic assessment formally became an integrated part of EIA in Lithuania. Therefore, this study examines a socio-economic assessment in the environmental impact statements (EIS) and the perceptions of the EIA experts towards a socio economic assessment. Although formally a socio-economic assessment has been validated only recently, 30% of specialists claimed having conducted a socio-economic assessment in detail prior to the amendments to the law. Thus, the EIS analysis has shown a rather poor consideration of these issues as mainly creation of work places was addressed. The survey has shown that preparation of the EIA documents after the formalisation of a socio-economic assessment would change mainly nominally. The EIA experts working in the private sector were more optimistic than those from state institutions. Reluctance of changes and personal attitudes have to be addressed, especially those particular to the experts of state institutions. In addition, methodological guidance, integrative approach and public involvement into the decision-making process could change the current situation and increase the effectiveness of the EIA process and the social impact assessment in general.

Abstract:
Background: We sought to assess the potential of insulin resistance (IR) for estimating cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in adults with type 1 diabetes (T1DM) according to the scores of the Steno Type 1 Risk Engine (ST1RE). Methods: A total of 179 adults with T1DM (50.8% men, age 41.2 ± 13.1 years, duration of T1DM 16 (12–23) years) without established CVD were evaluated. IR was assessed by the estimation of insulin sensitivity (eIS) using two validated prediction equations: the estimated insulin sensitivity developed from the Pittsburgh Epidemiology of Diabetes Complications Study (eIS-EDC) and the estimated insulin sensitivity developed from Coronary Artery Calcification in T1DM Study (eIS-CACTI) ST1RE was used to estimate 10-year CVD risk and to classify subjects into three groups according to their risk: low (<10%; n = 105), moderate (10–20%; n = 53), and high (≥20%; n = 21). Results: Both eIS-EDC and eIS-CACTI correlated negatively with ST1RE scores (eIS-EDC: r = −0.636, p < 0.001; eIS-CACTI: r = −0.291, p < 0.001). The C-statistic for predicting moderate/high risk and high risk was 0.816 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.754–0.878) and 0.843 (95% CI: 0.772–0.913), respectively, for the eIS-EDC equation, and was 0.686 (95% CI: 0.609–0.763) and 0.646 (95% CI: 0.513–0.778), respectively, for the eIS-CACTI equation. The eIS-EDC equation had a significantly higher C-statistic both for moderate-/high-risk (p = 0.001) and high-risk (p = 0.007) subjects. Two cut-off points of eIS-EDC were identified for detecting moderate/high risk (8.52 mg·kg−1·min−1; sensitivity 74% and specificity 76%) and high risk (8.08 mg·kg−1·min−1; sensitivity 65% and specificity 95%) with potential applicability in clinical practice. Conclusions: eIS negatively correlates with the score of CVD risk in the ST1RE. Two cut-off points of eIS are reported with potential utility in clinical practice for detecting adults with T1DM with the highest CVD risk.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTHighly sensitive electrolyte-insulator-semiconductor (EIS) sensors were realized by the integration of Si nanowires (NWs), which were fabricated by using a simple and economic electroless wet etching technique. EIS sensors with NWs longer than 1 μm were observed to have considerably increased capacitance and high pH sensitivity. The pH sensitivity of the EIS sensor with 3.8 μm long NWs was 60.2 mV/pH, which is higher than the theoretical Nernstian of 59 mV/pH. The EIS sensors with NWs exhibited slightly worse pH hysteresis and drift properties than that of the conventional planar type EIS sensor. The increases in pH sensitivity, hysteresis and drift are attributable to the extended surface area of the EIS sensors enabled by the NWs.

Abstract:
An examination of Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) points to a clear need for change in the current process of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in Australia. The recent approval of a Boatharbour/Marina at Shellharbour, New South Wales, Australia, serves as an example that underscores some of the problems common to most EISs. Budgetary constraints imposed on the ecological consultants can lead to the use of inappropriate methodology and the collection of inaccurate biological data. The limitations in methodology must be taken into consideration in EISs and all conclusions should be substantiated with data or reference to the literature. There is a need for stricter guidelines for ecological studies and monitoring programmes. A comprehensive list of potential impacts requiring consideration in an EIS should be provided for all designated developments. Novel mitigation methods should always be subject to monitoring. The consequences of not proceeding with the development should be considered in conjunction with alternatives to the proposed development and it should be essential to consider ecotourism as an alternative to all purely tourist oriented proposals. There is a need for peer review in the EIA process. Many of the flaws in the Shell Cove EIS might have been negated by more input from independent scientists. The future of ecologically sustainable development in Australia depends on our ability to learn from, and improve on, mistakes from the past.

Abstract:
Ecological infrastructures (EIs) are considered relevant components in agricultural landscapes to support biodiversity and ecosystem services. We used the predatory attacks on lepidopteran dummies as a proxy to assess predation rates in the agricultural matrix and different EIs types according to their location and vegetation structure. We aimed at comparing the effect of different types of EI on the predation intensity in two intensively irrigated agricultural areas located in the Sorraia and Tagus river valleys in central Portugal. We hypothesized that: (1) the predation rate would be higher near EIs compared with the agricultural matrix, (2) the positive effect of EIs on predation rate would differ with their typologies, and (3) the EIs’ proximity and proportion in the surrounding landscape would have a positive effect on the predation rate in agricultural fields. The EI typologies influenced differently the predator groups and the overall predation rate. Major differences were observed for bird predation, being higher in woody EIs. A positive correlation between predation rate and EIs area of the surrounding landscape, as well as a negative correlation with the distance to the nearest riparian and woody EIs, was observed for birds. The observed dissimilarities in the predators’ response may be related to habitat differences and its functional connectivity. The overall monthly low predation rates are possibly related to the intensive agricultural system and the small area occupied by EIs.

Abstract:
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate how and when intrinsic (personal growth, affiliation, community contribution, health) and extrinsic (financial success, fame, physical appearance) goals affect individuals’ entrepreneurial intentions (EIs). The study uses goal contents theory to propose that intrinsic and extrinsic goals positively influence individuals’ EIs. The authors further argue that the collectivism moderates the effect of intrinsic and extrinsic goals on individuals EIs.Design/methodology/approachA survey was designed to collect data from business graduates at a university in Pakistan. The measurement model and the hypothesized model were tested using the structural equation modeling technique in MPlus 7.0.FindingsThe results suggest that all four intrinsic goals and three extrinsic goals positively affect individuals’ EIs. However, financial success and fame appear to be the most prominent determinants of EIs. Similarly, personal growth and contribution to community are strong predictors of individuals’ EIs. Conversely, health, physical appearance and affiliation motives were found to have a weaker effect on individuals’ EIs. Moreover, the results show that collectivist orientation negatively moderates the effect of intrinsic goals on individuals’ EIs, but positively moderates the effect of extrinsic goals. These results suggest that the EIs of individuals with high collectivist orientation are mainly induced by extrinsic goals, whereas intrinsic factors play a greater role in stimulating the EIs of individuals with low collectivism.Originality/valueExtant research has paid little attention to intrinsic and extrinsic goals as determinants of individuals’ EIs. Thus, this study explores how and when intrinsic and extrinsic goals develop individuals’ EIs. This study is the first of its kind to highlight the importance of individuals’ cultural orientation (collectivism) to determine the alternative role of intrinsic and extrinsic goals in developing individuals’ EIs. In addition, this study was conducted in a different cultural setting (i.e. South Asia), which provides an opportunity to expand the boundary conditions of the phenomenon by offering an alternative perspective on this issue.

Abstract:
Anticorrosive protection efficiency of novel tetrafunctional epoxy prepolymer, namely 2,3,4,5-tetraglycidyloxy pentanal (TGP), for mild steel in 1 M HCl medium was assessed through potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), contact angle (CA), adsorption isotherm model, temperature effect and thermodynamic parameters. The synthesized TGP was characterized and confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The inhibitory efficiencies found at lower concentration of the prepolymer TGP were85% (PDP) and 87.17% (EIS). PDP measurement illustrated that the TGP behaved as a mixed-type inhibitor in the realized solution. SEM and EDS analysis showeda significant decrease in the corrosion of the MS surface in the presence of the inhibitory prepolymer compared with the blank (1 M HCl). Langmuir adsorption isotherm is the most acceptable modelto describe the TGP epoxy prepolymer on the MS area.

Abstract:
Purpose Potassium silicate sealer was applied on solvent-cleaned, acid-pickled, dacromet-coated steel to improve its corrosion resistance. The purpose of this paper is to study the corrosion behavior of dacromet-coated steel. Design/methodology/approach Potassium silicate sealer was applied on solvent-cleaned, acid-pickled, dacromet-coated steel to improve its corrosion resistance. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic polarization, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and salt spray were carried out. SEM was used to study the morphological appearance of the surface. Findings The EIS behavior indicated that solvent-cleaned dacromet-coated steel sealed with potassium silicate showed that the corrosion current density was 2.664E − 5 A.cm2 which was reduced to 8.752E − 6 A.cm2 and the corrosion rate, which was 2.264E − 2 mm.year−1, was reduced to 7.438E − 3 mm.year−1 in NaCl 3.5 wt.per cent. EIS was used in NaCl 3.5 wt.%, and the Bode plot characteristics showed that the corrosion protection of solvent-cleaned, dacromet-coated steel was enhanced when sealed with potassium silicate. The EDS results of salt-sprayed, solvent-cleaned samples after 10 days indicated that the main corrosion products are composed of SiO2, ZnO and Al2O3. Research limitations/implications The detection of Li element in EDS was not possible because of the device limitation. Originality/value The current paper provides new information about the sealing properties of potassium silicate and its effects on the corrosion resistance of dacromet coating, which is widely used in many industries such as the automobile industry.

AbstractThis study shows that the syntagma δύναµις εἰς σωτηρίαν was widely used in ancient Greek literature of the Classical, Hellenistic, and Greco-Roman periods. A semantic context analysis reveals that “danger” is the common intersection of all contexts in which the syntagma δύναµις εἰς σωτηρίαν occurs. In a modified way it also appears in texts of the New Testament (Rom 1:16; 1 Pet 1:5): By using δύναµις (θεοῦ) εἰς σωτηρίαν in a context focused on danger, Paul (as well as the author of 1 Peter) indicates that his use of the syntagma is consistent with the pagan, non-biblical use of δύναµις εἰς σωτηρίαν.
