Abstract:
European eel (Anguilla anguilla) were fed either high or low ration levels (1.33 and 0.48% body weight·day1). Eight periods of continuous 24-h respirometry in flow-through conditions were conducted over 70 days to simultaneously examine nitrogen and energy budgets without resorting to the calculation of parameters by difference. Food and oxygen consumption; ammonia, urea, and nitrate-nitrite excretion; and growth production were measured. Nitrogen budgets successfully accounted for 89.6-101.2% of the consumed nitrogen. Energy budgets accounted for 53.4-92.3% of the consumed energy. From the ammonia quotients (AQ), 54.4-57.7% of the available protein was oxidized at high ration, and 59.7-133.5%, at low ration level. To satisfy maintenance requirements, 0.28 mg N·g-1·day-1 was required. At 25°C eels were calculated to have a rate of standard metabolism of 83.3 J·g1·day-1, which is comparable with the range published for other species at this temperature. These data suggest that eels do not have a particularly low metabolic rate, as is commonly assumed in the eel rearing industry, and that the relatively inactive lifestyle associated with the eel masks a metabolic rate in common with other, more active, fish.

Semua perlakuan dilakukan ulangan tiga kali ulangan dengan Rancangan Acak Lengkap. Parameter yang diamati adalah kadar protein, kadar air, kadar karbohidrat, uji kerenyahan, uji kemekaran dan uji sensoris. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan pemberian putih telur mampu meningkatkan kandungan protein dan kemekaran dan kerenyahan kerupuk ikan belut serta memenuhi Standar Industri Indonesia.This study aims to find the optimal concentration of egg whites to increase efflorescence swamp eel crackers with treatment A without giving egg white, egg white treatment B adding 25 ml, treatment C the addition of 50 ml of egg white and egg white treatment D adding 75 ml. All treatments are performed replications with three replications completely randomized design. Parameters measured were protein content, moisture content, carbohydrate content, crispness test, efflorescence and sensory test. Based on the results of this study concluded giving egg whites to increase the protein content and efflorescence and crispy swamp eel crackers and meet industry standards of Indonesia.

Special culinary tour of Yogyakarta becomes one of the tourism attractions of Special Region of Yogyakarta that be able to get great benefits toward community economy. Eel culinary business is potential to grow the local society economy.The aim of the research is to find out consumer attitude toward service center of Eel culinary at Godean Sleman Yogyakarta. Data collection technique used is questionnaire and sampling method used convenient sampling method.As for the research steps consisted of: 1) preparation step of the research instrument included literature review, research design setting and earlier observation, 2) step of data collection in the field is conducted by observation, questionnaire, interview, and secondary data collection, 3) step of data tabulation and analysis, consisted of: a) data component tabulation, including data reduction and data presentation, b) data verification including data validity, c) data analysis, using attitude index analysis method, 4) step of report writing as the final step of the research, where all results analyzed was presented in a structured written product. From the analysis using attitude index was obtained a value of 8,71 means the consumers have neutral attitude toward the service center of Eel culinary at Godean Sleman Yogyakarta. As for the attributes the best responded were access, credibility and tangible (parking are), and the worst responded attribute was (religious service).</span></p>

Organic and biological compounds (especially those related to the pharmaceutical industry) have always been of great interest for researchers due to their importance for the development of new drugs to diagnose, cure, treat or prevent disease. As many new API (active pharmaceutical ingredients) and their polymorphs are in nanocrystalline or in amorphous form blended with amorphous polymeric matrix (known as amorphous solid dispersion—ASD), their structural identification and characterization at nm scale with conventional X-Ray/Raman/IR techniques becomes difficult. During any API synthesis/production or in the formulated drug product, impurities must be identified and characterized. Electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) at high energy resolution by transmission electron microscope (TEM) is expected to be a promising technique to screen and identify the different (organic) compounds used in a typical pharmaceutical or biological system and to detect any impurities present, if any, during the synthesis or formulation process. In this work, we propose the use of monochromated TEM-EELS, to analyze selected peptides and organic compounds and their polymorphs. In order to validate EELS for fingerprinting (in low loss/optical region) and by further correlation with advanced DFT, simulations were utilized.

Fish protein hydrolysates have good nutritional properties and thus can be obtained by treatment of fish meat with enzymes under controlled conditions. It is used for texturing, gelling, foaming, emulsification, protein supplements, flavor enhancers, and beverage stabilizers. The aims of this study were to prepare eel protein hydrolysate (EPH) prepared using Alcalase® enzyme and characterize its physicochemical properties. The structural, solubility, emulsifying and foaming properties, water holding and oil binding capacity of EPH were examined. Structural results obtained found that the presence of hydrophilic and hydrophobic amino acids together with the presence of aromatic groups. There were no significant differences (p>0.05) between EPH at different pH levels in solubility. However, in terms of emulsifying and foaming properties, EPH showed significant differences (p<0.05) at different pH levels, while water holding capacity showed significant differences (p<0.05) at different EPH concentrations. There were no significant differences (p>0.05) in the oil binding capacities of EPH at different concentrations. The functional properties possessed by EPH showed that it has potential as an emulsifier and stabilizer in food products, playing an important role in the food industry.

Liquid smoke is a volatile compound that simultaneously evaporates from heat reactor throughpyrolization and condense in cooler. Liquid smoke was produced in several steps that arepyrolization, condensation and redistillation. Quality, composition and material in liquid smoke isinfluenced by wood type as raw material. The major component of liquid smoke are acid, fenolderivate and carbonil. Those components can be used as flavoring, coloring, antibacterial andantioxidant agents. Liquid smoke can be used as preservative because of its antibacterial andantioxidant activity. Fenol and acetic acid compounds in liquid smoke can inhibit bacterial growthsuch as Pseudomonas fluorescence, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcusaureus. Fenol also can be used as antioxidant by stabilizing the free radicals. Liquid smoke cangive specific flavor and better color in smoke products. Liquid smoke can be applicated in eel, fishor products diversification such as fish steak. Liquid smoke also can be used in agricultural andtimber industry.

One of the main obstacles to resolving the conflict between an increasing population of cormorants, Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis, and the fishing industry is the lack of documentation of the effect of the birds’ predation on fish stocks. Tagging and releasing fish with coded wire tags followed by intensive cormorant pellet sampling may be a viable method to measure the impact of cormorants on fish populations. To test this new method, we studied cormorant predation in a shallow estuary, where nearly 100 000 fish were tagged and more than 10 000 cormorant pellets were collected over a 3-year study period. A total of 112 tags were recovered from the collected pellets. Analyses of tag recovery data indicated considerable cormorant predation on tagged flounder, eel and salmon smolts, but the method did not deliver high-quality documentation, mainly because of limitations in pellet sampling. We conclude with recommendations to enhance the value of this method.

Positive Matrix Factorization (PMF) was used to identify the sources of ambient TSP and to estimate respective contribution to the total ambient TSP concentration in the residential area surrounding iron and steel industry in Cilegon city. Total of 34 daily samples (24 hours) were collected during the sampling period (August-November 2015) using a High Volume Sampler. The samples then were analyzed for black carbon and 18 metal elements (Si, Al, Fe, S, Cu, Pb, V, Cr, Ni, Zn, Mn, Sn, K, Ca, Cl, Ti, Ba, and Co) using Diffusion Systems EEL 43m Smoke Stain Reflectometer (SSR) and Energy Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence (ED-XRF), respectively. From the PMF results were found that 10 factors as the optimum solution. The five major sources are crustal matter (40.13%), iron and steel production (22.23%), coal combustion (16.54%), biomass burning (11.83%), smelting (8.63%). Meanwhile, the other sources detected are diesel vehicle (0.28%), sea salt (0.17%), fuel-oil combustion (0.07%), road dust (0.07%), and cement industries/construction (0.05%). The patterns of conditional probability function analysis results were adequately appropriate with the potential locations of the known sources around study site.

Abstract:
Purpose As a typical resource energy-intensive industry, the scale of construction industry has been expanding rapidly owing to the large-scale urbanization and the economic booming in China, which results in a sharp increase in the energy consumption of construction industry. However, it is infeasible to mitigate the energy consumption by reducing the production activities of construction industry. Therefore, improving the energy efficiency of construction industry is essential for energy saving. Construction industry has close relationships with other industries. The production activities have not only consumed a great deal of energy but they have also generated a massive energy consumption from other industries. Previous literature studied the efficiency of energy consumed directly by the construction industry. However, no research has been found focusing on the efficiency of energy consumed directly by the construction industry and indirectly by the related industries. The purpose of this paper is to put forward a total energy efficiency evaluation framework to measure the energy efficiency of construction industry in depth. Design/methodology/approach This paper employs the data envelopment analysis (DEA) method and the framework of embodied energy efficiency (EEE) to establish a total energy efficiency evaluation model. Next, the comprehensive analysis of direct energy efficiency (DEE) and EEE in different provinces with various levels of urbanization and various economic levels is conducted. Findings The results show that the embodied energy intensity and its regularities differ greatly between provinces. From the comparison of DEE and EEE, the provinces of Zhejiang and Jiangsu remain DEA-effective and Hainan is the only province in which the EEE is higher than DEE in 2002, 2007 and 2012. Besides, the DEE and EEE in the provinces with higher levels of urbanization and high economic levels are not more effective than those in the provinces with relatively lower levels of urbanization and low economic levels. Originality/value Previous literature studied the efficiency of energy consumed directly by the construction industry while ignoring the energy consumed indirectly by the related industries. Besides, no research has been found focusing on the regulation of energy efficiency in different provinces with different levels of urbanization and different economic levels. It can be concluded that the increasing levels of urbanization and higher economic levels have not brought development and benefits for improving DEE and EEE. Therefore, under the condition that the self-regulation of construction industry and market fail to facilitate the improvement of DEE and EEE in China, policymakers should develop policies and market incentive mechanism to encourage construction industry for employing new technologies to improve the energy efficiency. Since the EEE can reveal the energy efficiency in depth, the evaluation method of EEE should be paid more attention. Besides the fact that the EEE is lower than the DEE in almost all provinces, except Hainan province, the industrial structure is essential to develop the EEE. Hence, improving the energy structure, increasing the energy efficiency and developing new and renewable energy are the basic energy strategies in China.

This research aims to analyze the nutritive value of flour head, liver powder and bone meal as by product of Indonesian eel (Anguilla bicolor) processing. Eel waste flour was made by using a thermal process in the drum dryer fish flouring mill PT. Carmelitha Lestari in Bogor, whereas proximate analysis for chemical tests were performed in the laboratory of Integrated Chemical Laboratory, IPB and direct observation was conducted in PT Jawa Suisan Indah, Palabuhanratu Sukabumi district in October 2012—April 2013. The nutritive value based on proximate analysis showed that head flour, liver flour, and bone flour contained protein 61.78%, 53.92%, and 41.01%; fat 15.55%, 27.28%, 13.07%; carbohydrate 11.48%; 14.96%, 8.13%; water 5.44%, 8.48%, 3.01%; ash 12.95%, 3.62%, 37.49%, and crude fiber 1.33%, 0.04%, 1.11%, respectively.<br /><br />

Abstract:
According to this paper, technical inefficiency unrelated to problem loans on the part of banks, would result in loan expansion, inducing, in turn, firms that rely heavily on bank borrowing, to expand their production accordingly as they can benefit from higher lending. Increased scale of production fosters economies of scale, which can compensate for the adverse effects of technical inefficiency on cost, reinforcing at the same time sales. Production can expand even further if firms maximize their profit by acknowledging their own technical inefficiency in the form of scale inefficiency.

Abstract:
The purpose of this cross-country study is to highlight the main determinants of the payout policy in the banking sector on a sample of MENA countries during the period of 2011-2016. Dividends act as a signaling tool to convey the bank’s overall stability and positive growth prospects. Large and profitable banks are more prone to distribute dividends. However, managers seek profitability and dividends distribution at the expense of high liquidity risk. Competition is the most influential determinant of dividend payout in the MENA region, in which dividends act as a control mechanism to reduce the agency costs between shareholders and managers.
