Abstract:
Abstract. A schematic of the components of regional early warning systems for rainfall-induced landslides is herein proposed, based on a clear distinction between warning models and warning systems. According to this framework an early warning system comprises a warning model as well as a monitoring and warning strategy, a communication strategy and an emergency plan. The paper proposes the evaluation of regional landslide warning models by means of an original approach, called the "event, duration matrix, performance" (EDuMaP) method, comprising three successive steps: identification and analysis of the events, i.e., landslide events and warning events derived from available landslides and warnings databases; definition and computation of a duration matrix, whose elements report the time associated with the occurrence of landslide events in relation to the occurrence of warning events, in their respective classes; evaluation of the early warning model performance by means of performance criteria and indicators applied to the duration matrix. During the first step the analyst identifies and classifies the landslide and warning events, according to their spatial and temporal characteristics, by means of a number of model parameters. In the second step, the analyst computes a time-based duration matrix with a number of rows and columns equal to the number of classes defined for the warning and landslide events, respectively. In the third step, the analyst computes a series of model performance indicators derived from a set of performance criteria, which need to be defined by considering, once again, the features of the warning model. The applicability, potentialities and limitations of the EDuMaP method are tested and discussed using real landslides and warning data from the municipal early warning system operating in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).

Abstract:
Abstract. The paper proposes the evaluation of the technical performance of a regional landslide early warning system by means of an original approach, called EDuMaP method, comprising three successive steps: identification and analysis of the Events (E), i.e. landslide events and warning events derived from available landslides and warnings databases; definition and computation of a Duration Matrix (DuMa), whose elements report the time associated with the occurrence of landslide events in relation to the occurrence of warning events, in their respective classes; evaluation of the early warning model Performance (P) by means of performance criteria and indicators applied to the duration matrix. During the first step, the analyst takes into account the features of the warning model by means of ten input parameters, which are used to identify and classify landslide and warning events according to their spatial and temporal characteristics. In the second step, the analyst computes a time-based duration matrix having a number of rows and columns equal to the number of classes defined for the warning and landslide events, respectively. In the third step, the analyst computes a series of model performance indicators derived from a set of performance criteria, which need to be defined by considering, once again, the features of the warning model. The proposed method is based on a framework clearly distinguishing between local and regional landslide early warning systems as well as among correlation laws, warning models and warning systems. The applicability, potentialities and limitations of the EDuMaP method are tested and discussed using real landslides and warnings data from the municipal early warning system operating in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).

Abstract:
Abstract Landslide early warning systems (LEWS) can be categorized into two groups: territorial and local systems. Territorial landslide early warning systems (Te-LEWS) deal with the occurrence of several landslides in wide areas: at municipal/regional/national scale. The aim of such systems is to forecast the increased probability of landslide occurrence in a given warning zone. The performance evaluation of such systems is often overlooked, and a standardized procedure is still missing. This paper describes a new Excel user-friendly tool for the application of the EDuMaP method, originally proposed by (Calvello and Piciullo 2016). A description of indicators used for the performance evaluation of different Te-LEWS is provided, and the most useful ones have been selected and implemented into the tool. The EDuMaP tool has been used for the performance evaluation of the “SMART” warning model operating in Piemonte region, Italy. The analysis highlights the warning zones with the highest performance and the ones that need threshold refinement. A comparison of the performance of the SMART model with other models operating in different Te-LEWS has also been carried out, highlighting critical issues and positive aspects. Lastly, the SMART performance has been evaluated with both the EDuMaP and a standard 2 × 2 contingency table for comparison purposes. The result highlights that the latter approach can lead to an imprecise and not detailed assessment of the warning model, because it cannot differentiate among the levels of warning and the variable number of landslides that may occur in a time interval.

Abstract:
Abstract. The Norwegian national landslide early warning system (LEWS), operational since 2013, is managed by the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate and was designed for monitoring and forecasting the hydrometeorological conditions potentially triggering slope failures. Decision-making in the LEWS is based upon rainfall thresholds, hydrometeorological and real-time landslide observations as well as on landslide inventory and susceptibility maps. Daily alerts are issued throughout the country considering variable size warning zones. Warnings are issued once per day for the following 3 days and can be updated according to weather forecasts and information gathered by the monitoring network. The performance of the LEWS operational in Norway has been evaluated applying the EDuMaP method, which is based on the computation of a duration matrix relating number of landslides and warning levels issued in a warning zone. In the past, this method has been exclusively employed to analyse the performance of regional early warning models considering fixed warning zones. Herein, an original approach is proposed for the computation of the elements of the duration matrix in the case of early warning models issuing alerts on variable size areas. The approach has been used to evaluate the warnings issued in Western Norway, in the period 2013–2014, considering two datasets of landslides. The results indicate that the landslide datasets do not significantly influence the performance evaluation, although a slightly better performance is registered for the smallest dataset. Different performance results are observed as a function of the values adopted for one of the most important input parameters of EDuMaP, the landslide density criterion (i.e. setting the thresholds to differentiate among classes of landslide events). To investigate this issue, a parametric analysis has been conducted; the results of the analysis show significant differences among computed performances when absolute or relative landslide density criteria are considered.

Abstract:
The goal of this study is to determine the types of writing errors that students at the Khadimul Ummah Bintan Islamic Boarding School make in terms of syntactic elements, as well as give methods to reduce the incidence of these errors. Data was collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis method employed a 'discourse analysis', which is a type of analysis that looks for patterns in the texts. The micro linguistic units associated to syntax are examined using the discourse analysis in the texts. This method was used to look at data on the suitability of using Arabic in the subject of insya' to detect faults and discrepancies when using Arabic terms. Results of the study show: (1) students of the Khadimul Ummah Bintan Islamic Boarding School have ten different types of writing errors: nakirah and ma'rifah, mudzakkar and muannats, meaningful harf, dhamir usage, mufrad, mutsanna, and jama', i'rab, fi'il, na'at, and man'ut, mu'rabah, and word writing. (2) Methods for reducing these errors include applying the acquisition of Arabic language rules (Nahwu) via deductive or inductive methods, and implementing the integration of learning. The Khadimul Ummah Islamic Boarding School of Bintan is pioneering the insya' learning approach by using the Insya' Muwajjah learning paradigm, which involves giving students several examples of how to correctly organize Arabic words/sentences and a large amount of daily vocabulary while simultaneously writing it down.

Abstract:
LITERATURE ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF A CASE STUDY ABSTRACT: Zoos nowadays are expected to contribute to the education of visitors, to participate in scientific research and, ultimately, to contribute to the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems. Standards have been developed to guide and enforce the implementation of education, research and animal welfare best practices. Zoos have long since claimed to educate visitors but only recently has such been analysed through empirical peer reviewed research. This dissertation presents a narrative analysis of literature, which investigates the educational impacts of zoos. Additionally, a case study is designed to investigate the impact of exhibit signs on visitor knowledge and behaviour, in a small Portuguese zoo. Zoos have now statistically significant evidence to demonstrate an educational impact on visitors, though it is not ubiquitous across institutions nor visitors. Investment and research on education are essential, as to provide credibility and validation to zoos, and help develop more effective conservation education methods.

Abstract:
Pupils' achievement and knowledge in mathematics is a highly current issue that is discussed and compared both in Sweden and internationally. International measurements have for a long time pointed to a lower level of knowledge and in Sweden they discuss the reasons for these downward results. Researchers believe that pupils' attitude, adjustment and motivation to the subject of mathematics are one of the reasons when they are considered crucial to address the subject of mathematics. It also strives to answer the teaching methods that influence students' motivation. The Swedish curriculum for elementary school states that teaching should promote students' interest and the desire to learn, which represents a large part of the motivation of students. The choice of teaching method can thus influence students' motivation. In this systematic literature study, three different main categories of teaching methods appear in the results; Methods where the teacher is at the center, methods where technical aids are at the center and methods in which the student is at the center. The categories consist of articles that deal with different types of teaching methods, which in the result had an influence on student motivation.

This paper gives clues for the educative action in nutrition subjects. It deals about the professors experiences deployments lived in 2003 e 2004, both in Nutrition undergraduate course of the Federal University of the Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), in Nutrition Education and Supervised Internship in Social Nutrition academic disciplines, as well as in the II Update Course in Nutrition Practices for Health Basic Care , offered to the supervisors nutritionists of internship, in this same department, being able to be characterized as an action-research, with interventionism purpose. The study stands out the importance of a new point of view about the nutritionist formation to overcome the limits imposed by the scientism, and the adoption of a complex and reflexive reference about the educational practice in this area. The corpus is made up by 81 undergraduate students alimentary autobiography (source of generating subjects for interventions with the nutritionists), 17 questionnaires and 05 interviews, being 03 of them biography (the start up for an initial dialogue with the nutritionists). The data found and the professors experiences allied to a theoretic reference, by the light of the education proposals for the XXI century were used as establishment elements for the proposition of five guidance axles used to build a complex and reflexive nutrition education, which are: 1) Take the cookery and the culture of eating together as significant elements for the human being integral formation; 2) Conceive the religion manifestations associated to feeding process as relevant elements of the human food culture; 3) Discuss the rupture nature/culture aiming the preservation of live in earth; 4) Search for the overcoming of the identity conflicts by a higher inclosing conscience degrees of being part of this process. 5) Face the limits of fragmented formation. The presented thesis stands that the autobiography method, allied to the freirean pedagogy and to a complex reference, could be taken as an important tool to the health educative subjects, contributing to the formation of reflective individuals able to transform themselves and the world.

This study evaluated the contributions of working with a project method applied in the teaching-learning process, aiming that the students of the agribusiness course of the Federal Institute in the North of Minas Gerais ? Campus Salinas might understand and fixed knowledge. Aiming to verify how interdisciplinarity contributes to the development of students? learning through their own construction of knowledge due to their inclusion in the research project for developing the product ?pasteurized cane juice?. To evaluate the learning of each student individually, we used the method of the attitude constructing a questionnaire composed of 25 statements regarding the theoretical and practical knowledge on the production of pasteurized sugarcane juice. The questionnaire was administered to students at four different times: the first time (TI), considered as time zero, where the group of students responded to questionnaires when the teacher had not offered any information about the project and its related disciplines, the second time (TII), the students answered after watching an interdisciplinary exhibition project, the third time (TIII), responded after the production of juice, and the fourth and final time (TIV), where the group responded to questionnaires after the completion of analysis. Through this assessment it was revealed that the development of students? learning was significant and growing. They were also evaluated in relation to commitment to the proposed activities through: image registration, self-assessment of learning, development flowchart, and practice in the production of the juice and their laboratory tests. This other form of assessment showed differently the growth of these students during the research. They proved to be encouraged to work with the project because they could participate in activities that were not included in their daily profession. Through self-assessments, they show the desire to have an education focused on issues related to their reality, based on a curriculum in the various areas of knowledge can act in an integrated manner. And by working with flowchart, we could clearly see the development in relation to the production process of the cane juice. The work was very important in guiding the teacher to work other teaching methods both in the classroom, field or laboratory to stimulate the interest of the student of a pedagogical discipline. Students learn better and showed more satisfaction when they felt part of the learning process and not just passively receiving knowledge.

Abstract:
Collaborative/active learning is a notably effective educational method. Since tablet terminals are now being widely used in the educational field, it is being possible to use tablet terminals for collaborative/active learning. To do this, a computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) system and software is required. The authors report on the development of CSCL system/software called the “Edutab box.” The authors also report on three practical activities/research studies involving the use of the “Edutab box” in regular public elementary school classrooms in Japan, in three contexts: 1) debate practice, 2) creating social studies class reports, and 3) lesson study (a re-reflection of class observation). As a future direction, the authors propose an “intelligent Edutab,” which is an extension of the “Edutab box.” The development of the prototype—and of practical activities/research studies using the prototype—is reported.

Abstract:
Social entrepreneurs play an important role in the economic and social development of the communities in which they operate. The career aspiration of social entrepreneurs can be encouraged if youths are given early educa-tional exposure when they are young. The purpose of this paper is to work out the proposal for study curriculum in order to include a subject of social entrepreneurship. To attain this aim, the following tasks were put forward: (1) to research literature regarding social entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship education; (2) to describe the empiri-cal research methodology; (3) to discuss research results; (4) to propose a module for teaching social entrepreneurship to business students. These tasks account for the structure of the article: introduction, literature review, methodology, results and discussion, conclusions and recommendations. The theoretical basis of the current article consists of recent literature on the social entrepreneurship (taking into account Covid-19 circumstances), social entrepreneurship educa-tion, as well as of the legal documents of the Republic of Latvia. The empirical research is bipartite – first, a survey of business students, applying the snowball sampling method, using 5-point Likert scale questionnaire, second, a survey of business school lecturers. The results are interpreted using methods of descriptive and inferential statistics – mean ranking and Kruskal Wallis test. The results of the research have a practical value, as they identify the problematic areas of business education in regard to social entrepreneurship and make it possible to offer a practical solution – an insert module of social entrepreneurship.

Abstract:
The main topic of the paper is the analysis of a state of physical education in primary and secondary education in the Czech Republic. The paper is engaged in an issue of the pupils (and their legal representatives) approach to the physical education as well as of the curricu-lar grounding of the physical education. The next viewpoint is an analysis of a general social and individual value of physical education with the respect to a quality of life of a certain in-dividual. As the last but not the least thing is that the paper evaluates current attitudes to the physical education. The main goal of the paper is to analyse some of main problems to which the physical educa-tion in the Czech primary and secondary education currently is facing (namely big increase of exemption in secondary school and motivation to attend physical education classes). Partial goals are on one hand to uncover less obvious problems connected with above-mentioned, on the other hand point out some of the causes of a current state of physical education. The last partial goal is to offer a possibilities of a solution of the certain state. The methodological background of the paper has a qualitative character, while the main method is the content analysis when the inductive approach prevails. A reason for using such method is its suitability for processing a new topic. Further, due to the interpretation of gained data we use also the phenomenological approach. Except of aforementioned, we realized open interviews with Heads of schools. The author finds out that the physical education is currently facing to serious problems when some of them markedly overlaps the sphere of the physical education and their solution is not committed only to the sphere of physical education. Among the other things, these problems may negatively influence a quality of life of the Czech population. Finally, the paper offers possibilities of solution of a current negative evolution.

The evaluation has addressed the training programme ,,Google for education" which aimed to develop teachers skills in employing in ones own activity of the different Google applications (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, sheets, forms, sites, Google+). The investigation aimed to reveal the added value of the training programme. The quantitative data set was collected through a questionnaire distributed through the ,,Google for education" communities and through the iTeach platform addressed to the professional development of teachers in preuniversitary education. For the analysis 159 answers were validated as attendants to the formal training session in using the Google apps in education from the total of 161 teachers who have actually filled in the questionnaire. The content for the qualitative analysis consists in the discussions taking place in 13 counties from Romania, which could be identified online. In this paper we will explore the trainees preferences and difficulties encountered in applying the Google tools in the process of resources and learning management, with a focus on the way in which the google groups are used as a mean of communication and collaboration in the professional communities of teachers from din 13 counties (Arge?, Bistri?a-N?s?ud, Boto?ani, Bra?ov, Br?ila, Bucure?ti, Constan?a, D?mbovi?a, Giurgiu, Hunedoara, Mehedin?i, Mure?, Timi?). We have used a mixed methodology of analysis with quantitative and qualitative treatment of the collected data (questionnaire applied to the trainees of the training programme and content analysis of the online discussions forums). The focus of analysis was on the effectiveness of the training programme and on building a teachers learning community as well as to provide a set of suggestions for improving the future training activities. The quantitative results are analysed and further explained against the qualitative results taking into account different factors: type of training provider type, trainees preferences for training, opportunities, difficulties and factors of success in application in preparation activity and actual classes, areas, extent and frequency of application, participants estimated training impact on educational design and classes, teaching experiences. The analysed effects of training include: use of Google apps for management and school-family collaboration, better integration of google apps in the teaching, integration of google apps in the learning tasks, use of state of the art teaching methodologies (pupil and competence centeredness), introducing creative methods and strategies in the learning situations, relevance and practicality of the learning activities, opportunities for collaborative learning and team work, personalised and individualised learning, as well as interactive and participative learning, adequate, varied evaluation methods and tools, exploitation of received feedback for ones own improvement and professional development. In what the outcome of the training is concerned the following topics will be analysed: increased learning performance for pupils, attractiveness of learning activities, facilitation of retention, comprehension and higher order thinking skills, encouragement of both demanding students and high performing students, facilitation of creative approaches in learning, better and increased use of google apps for individual study, better communication with the students, increased individual involvement in collaborative projects, more effective resource management.
