Full textMy research examines the relationship between Diderot's early philosophical works and the Encyclopédie, specifically investigating the link between its anthropological and political dimensions. In other words, in my research I look at the connection between a materialist epistemology, which features a new conception of the 'human being” as a physically and physiologically determined entity, and the socio-political transformations suggested by the Encyclopédie. These transformations involve a series of intersecting relations of both theoretical-cognitive (renvois) and material nature (e.g. the shift from “organ” to “organization”, the fight to guilds, the division of labor, and the concept of solidarity). The interpretative contribution of this thesis lies in the identification of an educational project, which ties both anthropological and political aspects, and which is concerned with the materialistic education of the Third State. Quoting the Theses on Feuerbach, this educational project seems to show the necessity for educators to be enlightened too.According to this new interpretation, the Encyclopédie can no longer be considered a mere intellectual effort, and can finally become a true "revolutionary practice", a "Pensée en action". In this way, the Encyclopédie symbolizes the culmination of those organic cycles preceding every revolution (Venturi 1939), as well as a reference for those men who need take part in the "Progress" (in the mechanical sense) after the "revolution". As a result, the Encyclopédie develops into a praxis against the system, whose beating heart is represented by its relational and dialectical dimensions, which are able to generate new foundations for social life and new ways to think of politics

Full textThe term digital divide echoes a kind of technological determinism. It has often suggested that inequalities depend on physical access to Information and Communication Technologies and that simply achieving such access would solve problems of social exclusion. In this work the original literal sense of “access” will be replaced by a set of more concrete operational definitions. It extends the model of a gap between haves and have-nots to a concept of a broader digital inequality, depending on the so-called “digital skills”. It calls attention to information as a primary good in the contemporary society, to be considered as the main goal to achieve through a meaningful use of ICT. The emphasis is therefore placed on education, where the digital literacy can provide the ability to access, manage, integrate, evaluate, and create information. Social opportunities of digital technology are underlined both in developed and developing countries. We argue in fact that, whenever integrated in school subjects, ICT might become a great opportunity to innovate learning and teaching, to accomplish a renovated citizenship in the Nord of the world and help to achieve better standards of development in the South. A comparative analysis of two opposite contexts investigate understandings of the digital inclusion by exploring best practices for sustainable projects. The field research focuses on the One Laptop Per Child worldwide project, comparing the use of the same technological tool in primary schools of Italy and Ethiopia. The data presented are based on observations, focus group and interviews with a sample of 13 classes and 18 teachers/coordinators for each field, conducted during the school year 2008-2009. Results indicate that often children capabilities are complementary to teachers’ ones, that ICT provide the flexibility to meet diverse learners’ needs, that training is essential to motivate and empower teachers to use ICT and revise traditional didactics, that social capital has a central role in the school. The concept of capacity building emerges from these concepts and suggests pathways to improve skills access in the long run and adapt school curricula to collaborative environments. This is what the present study calls innovation.

Full textStarting from a critical ecological approach, following the trend of feminist studies, the purpose of the research were to unmask the forms of gender oppression in educational contexts (transformative purpose) and to implemente transformative pedagogical practice in P.E. for gender equality (emancipatory purpose). Given the complexity of the school educational context and of the topic itself that intersects various domains of knowledge, a mixed methodological approach was adopted. First to build a configuration of the phenomenon object of interest through quantitative tools and then deepen it using qualitative techniques. The tools used were the questionnaire, structured interview, observations in situ, professional biographies and focus groups. In summary, the evidence that emerged in the literature and empirical, highlights the presence of gender stereotypes in P.E. lessons, taken in the form of unconscious practices that teachers reproduce following a habitus socialized in binary gender form and hierarchized. The sports world, where gender stereotypes are present for historical-cultural reasons and from which teachers often draw part of their professional knowledge, makes them unconscious participants of reinforcement of the stereotypes through the practices know as “hidden curriculum”. The term hidden underlines the lack of awareness of such practices. The possibility of revealing them requires specific training for teachers on the habit of reflection on teaching practices.

Full textChallenges related to the concept of sustainability represent an unavoidable aspect for thinking and implementing any national and international development policy. Education and communication are the two key elements on which is grafted the discourse on environmental and agrofood sustainability that is developed in this research. In relation to sustainable and responsible lifestyles, the communication and its messages can have strong influence on personal behavior but there is a need to provide authentic information, relevant and scientifically founded. “A sustainability communication, pedagogically oriented, what educational contribution can offer to people and communities for the adoption of responsible lifestyles according to integral ecology?” The reference to pedagogy of educational communication and emblematic cases under study highlight the need to build alliances oriented to the creation of an educational and generative agreement between research, institutions, businesses and consumers. Lifelong learning is the inescapable interpretive key that the combination of themes in this research suggests. Full textThe environmental education plays an important role in the goals of Europe 2020 to achieve a smart, sustainable and inclusive society. Actually, it can contribute to expand responsible behaviors, essential for a good citizen. Awareness, sensibility and attitudes towards environmental issues will be widely developed in the future citizens, as soon as these matters will be included in school curricula and innovative teaching methods will be used. The aim of this research was to improve the curriculum of environmental studies from kindergarten on in compulsory education. The methodological approach of Geobotany could be useful for this purpose because it studies habitats, ecosystems and their major issues related to an interdisciplinary, synchronic and diachronic approach. The second aim was the implementation of strategies to change the habitual teaching practices and to adopt the inquiry based methodology. In the first stage of this research, some prototype-teaching units have been tested by 600 pupils aged between 8 and 11, from ten different schools spread all over the Marche Region. The tests were performed in the classroom and at the Botanical Garden "Selva di Gallignano" of Università Politecnica delle Marche, which was chosen as an outdoor classroom because it had been built following the principles of Geobotany and, indeed, rather then a mere collection of species, it boasts the reconstruction of some habitat. The process evaluation has been achieved by measuring the knowledge of pupils and the satisfaction of teachers and students themselves. The assessment of students’ knowledge showed a significant increase of positive marks, compared to the starting levels. The tests of satisfaction of both students and teachers, have had good results as well. In the second stage of the research, 1510 students and 102 teachers have experienced a whole vertical Geobotany curriculum, for students aged 5 to 14. In this stage of the work the teachers have been supported by a specific training at University. This research improved the teaching curriculum in compulsory education making it more effective. This work has shown that the Geobotany’s viewpoint and inquiry methods can improve environmental studies also including citizenship skills. Finally, this experience has been an example of good and profitable collaboration between University and School.

Strengthened, the transformations through the process of globalization, the effort to comprehend them is a epistemological fight which resulted in a fruitful theoretical production and in a recognition of communication as science which better expresses time; the interdisciplinary approach or the paradigm of complexity as perspective of analysis in the approach of the communicative processes of current days. In face of the disseminations of non-educative practices, transmissions of moral anti-values, the social inequality and the lack of family structure, there is a concern with the familiar representations showed in the plots of the soap operas, which makes us reflect about the pedagogical action, which supports this thesis, in particular the adults-parents who watch TV.
