Abstract:
PurposeThis study was undertaken to identify and describe the impact of leadership behaviour of educational leaders (both relation-oriented and task-oriented) along with demographics on institutional performance for the fulfilment of goals of education as envisaged in national documents.Research Design/MethodologyThree questionnaires namely Leadership Behaviour Description Questionnaire (LBDQ), Institutional Performance Questionnaire (IPQ) and Leadership Demographics Checklist (LDC) were developed for the collection of data. The validity and reliability of the instruments was ensured through experts’ opinions and pilot testing. All educational administrators working in educational institutions—schools, colleges situated at district and provincial level formed the population for this study. The population of study was consisted of Principals of Higher Secondary Schools, Degree Colleges and Colleges of Education, District Educational Officers (DEOs), Executive District Officers (EDOs), and their subordinates [DEOs, Dy. DEOs, AEOs and Superintendents] respectively. Leadership Demographics (attributes + situational factors) Checklist was administered to 171educational leaders and 1368 their subordinate / teaching staff. For gathering quick and reliable data all three questionnaires were routed through Additional Secretary (Schools), Education Department. Using that channel more than 90 % data were collected from the field.Major FindingsThe findings of the study revealed that both Relation-Oriented and Task Oriented Behavioural dimensions of educational leaders of the study directly relate to their leadership effectiveness. This evidence also suggests that the strong relationship between these two variables is optional for high leadership effectiveness for achieving the objectives of the organization. The correlation r =.73 shows a strong positive relationship between relation oriented behaviour of educational leaders and institutional performance. Whereas, the correlation r=.74 shows that there is also a strong relationship between task oriented behaviour of educational leaders and institutional performance. Comparison of both behaviours shows that comparatively second relationship is stronger than the previous one even instead of a little difference between their values. Therefore task oriented behaviour of educational leaders has better impact on the performance of institution rather than relation oriented behaviour of educational leaders and institutional performance. Whatsoever are the factors other than educational leaders, the impact of educational leaders on institutional performance cannot be easily ignored. Originality/ValueGiven the findings in this study, a relatively straight forward profile of educational leaders on institutional performance emerges. An effective educational leader according to this study is one who has Task-Oriented Behaviour which reflects the behaviour of the leader as high on relationship i.e. high on consideration, better with professional qualification, interaction with Subordinates/teaching staff enjoyable academic freedom that acts as catalyst in the use of potential of the staff for better instructional efficiency.

Abstract:
Leadership strategies of principals in educational institutes is considered an important factor in order to increase support and rewards. Universities in Pakistan suffer from the problems of low support and rewards, due to which most of the teachers and management staff members remain dissatisfied with their principals. This study investigated whether transformational or transactional leadership is better for providing support and rewards to teachers and management staff, along with evaluation of principles’ leadership qualities. For that, 5-point Likert scale questionnaire was utilised to assess the performance of principals by investigating 75 management and 75 teachers of 3 universities of Pakistan. Critical review approach was used for comparison between Pakistan and Australia. It was found that transformational leadership is much better as compared to transactional leadership, because it improves interaction and support, as observed in Australia. However, teachers and management staff members in Pakistan reported dissatisfaction, when asked about leadership role of their principals. They said that their principals never motivate them, support them nor reward them in contrast to leadership approaches in Australia.

Abstract:
This paper examines the experiences of women in educational administrative positions in public Schools in Islamabad, Pakistan by using a qualitative research design. In-depth interviews were conducted with head teachers from twenty girls’ model schools from urban areas of Islamabad. The findings of this study reveal that school leadership is not as simplistic and easy as assumed. Instead, it is complex and challenging due to personal and organizational constraints. The data shows that the participants felt reluctant to take leading positions as a result of work-family conflict. Furthermore, they also feared to be able to balance household responsibilities and administrative tasks. While some felt reluctant to work as leaders due to their attributes, others who opted to take the leading positions made personal sacrifices. Moreover, several organizational rules and regulations such as maternity leave and policies regarding child care were believed to distract teachers thus providing hurdles in their careers. It can be concluded that women navigate through these personal and organizational constraints to prove themselves as effective leaders. The findings from this study may offer useful insights to early-career women who aspire to work as potential leaders. These also have implications for policymakers concerned with school education in the country. Keywords: School Principals, Leadership, Barriers, Family Conflict, Pakistan

Abstract:
In this technologically developed scenario, many organizations in developing countries including Pakistan have expanded the enthusiasm for understanding and creating an encouraging administrative and managerial environment. Numerous organizations are struggling for structural changes by deserting the old-fashioned organizational management style and implementing an empowering leadership where leaders give more authority to subordinates in decision making and responsibilities with the aim to increase organizational productivity. Therefore, the study examined the leadership empowering behaviour as a predictor of employees’ psychological well-being of the educational institutions at secondary level in Kohat Division, Pakistan. A total sample of 564 secondary school teachers (male n = 379; female n = 185) was carefully chosen through a stratified random sampling technique. In this study, a non-experimental predictive correlational design was adopted. In order to collect data from the participants, two different standardized research tools i.e., the Leader Empowering Behaviour Questionnaire and Ryff’s Psychological Well-being Scale were used. After the collection of data, it was analyzed on the basis of mean, standard deviation, Pearson’s product-moment correlation, and multiple linear regression model. In conclusion, the study confirmed a significant positive correlation between leadership empowering behaviour and employees’ psychological well-being. Leadership empowering behaviours predict employees’ psychological well-being positively. Therefore, it was recommended that empowering behaviour might be adopted by the school leaders to improve the employees’ psychological well-being for better organizational productivity.

To compute sample, Yamane (1967) formula for selecting sample from finite population: n=population (566), level of significance, e = 0.05 & n=sample size, sample size (n) = N/1+Ne2 = 566/1+566(0.05), 2 = 234. Main Findings: The results of the study revealed that the significant and positive association among the research variables, the significant impact of the predictors on the criterion variable, and the significant partial mediating role of the employee commitment in the relationship between the toxic leadership and employees’ performance. Applications of Study: The current study focuses on examining the role of toxic leadership on employee performance with mediating effect of employee commitment within the banking sector of KP, Pakistan. This study's significance lies in the banking sector, desiring to acquire sustainable competitive advantage through increased employee performance and employee commitment. Novelty/Originality of Study: The expectation that organizational commitment can improve the relationship between toxic leadership and employee performance is missed to a certain extent in the educational context that is expected to offer a new contribution to an existing database of research.

Abstract:
The topic has its own importance particularly in backdrop of our philosophy of life as a nation and as a state, based on brotherhood, peace and prosperity. This philosophy of life teaches people of Pakistan to be united and cohesive with each other. It demands the nation and state to take the matter of life seriously. Today this philosophy of life does not exist in the society due to the class ridden education system of Pakistan. In developed countries, there is such an education system that not only guarantees their socio-economic development but the other nations feel proud to follow it. Unfortunately in Pakistan since its inception no such educational system has been practice which could have reflected the philosophy of nation and determined the direction of socio-economic progress. It has been a failure of state and the leadership, Pakistan has been lagging behind in every sphere of life such as industry, education, politics, science and technology and dependents in all these fields’ moreover social, cultural and political values also facing decay. The biggest reason of this devastation is the class-ridden educational system prevails in Pakistan. However several policies and plans have been made, billions of dollars have been spent, infra-structure have improved but as a nation and state Pakistan still endeavor for peace, , rule of law and progress in science and technology. All these progress and development depended on unified system of education not a class ridden. This purpose of this study is to present the qualitative analysis and to discuss the factors, problems and influence of this system on nation and state. Abstract:
The current article investigates teacher identity construction at the tertiary level educational institutions of Pakistan. Identity is the sense or perception about oneself and the position or role one has in a given context and environment; teachers construct their identities in the specific work and Institutional environments they face every day. This research adopted the Life History approach to narrative inquiry, where five participants were selected through purposive sampling. The data were collected through a semi-structured interview protocol that focused on the narratives; the narratives were inductively analyzed vertically and horizontally to reconstruct identity portraits for each participant. The portraits also presented commonalities and convergent issues and themes in identity development, such as the effect of positive or negative educational experiences; the role of the organizational culture, leadership and colleagues in shaping identity; the difficulties, negotiations and challenges experienced in the construction of identity; time and workload management issues.

Abstract:
This empirical study investigated the efforts of two Pakistani school administrators in dealing with the issues related to teachers’ motivation. This study exclusively examined how the two administrators embedded in their practices different ways of increasing the productivity of their staff. The researcher used the following three lenses to examine the motivational behavior adopted by the school leaders: 1) degree of teachers’ empowerment; 2) nature of rewards and recognition to honor teachers; and 3) pattern of communication between administrators and school staff. The study maintained that the private school administrator, unlike his public school counterpart, had a more updated knowledge in the field of education due to his exposure to professional development programs. This knowledge, which gave him a better understanding of the link between the motivational level of the teachers and the teachers’ productivity, led him to initiate certain measures. Unfortunately, only a limited quantity of research explores different dimensions of school leadership in the educational context of Pakistan. Therefore, this study attempted to address related issues, such as the recruitment of school leaders and the availability of professional development opportunities.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Objectives: There is a discrepancy between the theory and practice in the academic culture in the medical schools in Pakistan. The overall academic culture and educational armamentarium in Pakistani medical colleges is outdated and is teacher and administration centric. This scoping review is done to highlight these discrepancies and to shed light on problems faced in the academic culture of medical colleges. Methods: Out of the 98 studies identified relevant to the topic, 27 studies were included in this scoping review. These studies were obtained from PubMed, ERIC and Google Scholar. This review was supported by framework proposed by Arksey and O’Malley. Results: The scoping review highlighted that the students responded well to clear study objectives, practical application of knowledge over memorization, interactive nature of the teachers and a comfortable and properly equipped learning environment. The absence of aforementioned amenities and facilities enabled poor results, high stress in students and overall low academic performances of medical colleges. Along with that a lack of formal training of teachers and a passive participation of students in research opportunities were also displayed. Conclusion: The academic culture in Pakistan’s medical and dental colleges display a lack of modern and innovative learning and teaching facilities, which has a negative impact on student performance and growth. A collaborative approach, with active participation from all stakeholders involved can curb a lot of these problems, given proper funding and good leadership.

Abstract:
In contemporary leadership theories, the proposition that leaders, who employ performance-based rewards and punishment are more effective than those leaders who use rewards and punishments just as incentives. Some researchers believe that punishments act as a motivational tool to promote responsiveness and improve performances of the employees while others assume that punishments produce undesirable consequences for the institutions. Similarly, the fairness in procedures in providing punishments to employees is the phenomenon of greater importance in connecting the contingent punishments and employees’ responsiveness. Therefore, to examine these issues, in a native environment, data was collected through a structured questionnaire from employees working in higher educational institutions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The results of the study, while applying the statistical procedures, provide valuable information for the eye-openers (employees, leadership and management) of the institutions about the research issues under considerations. Together with, some recommendations, future directions and practical implications have also been offered as emerged from the results of the study.

Abstract:
In this dynamic and technological world, leadership became the backbone of every organization. To understand this contemporary life cycle, the present study reflects the role of male and female leadership in the Private Education sector. The objectives of this study are (1) to investigate the direct and indirect effect of authentic leadership on knowledge sharing behavior through the mediation of commitment, and (2) to compare the gender disparity of leading an organization. Two models are proposed theoretically that test the direct and indirect relationship between authentic leadership and employees’ knowledge sharing behavior; tacit knowledge. This Study addresses two measurement models such as direct and indirect effects using Mplus (structural equation modeling). This study employed a quantitative research design. For this purpose, the study administers 455 survey Questionnaires among the private school teachers in district Shiekhupura, Pakistan but in turn, 377 proved validly and fully answered. The Study found the direct significant and positive relationships among authentic leadership, commitment, and employees’ knowledge sharing behavior. In addition, the study found the indirect significant and positive relationship between authentic leadership and knowledge sharing behavior that represents partial mediation. Moreover, this study reflects that the male gender leadership directly impresses teachers’ commitment and knowledge sharing more than female gender leadership. On the other way, female gender leadership indirectly influences knowledge sharing more than the male gender. So, it could say that the teachers were directly more committed and shared more knowledge by male gender leadership. But in the case of female gender leadership, the teachers give priority to the commitment and then share knowledge. Educational institutions should hire competent and efficient headteachers to facilitate the teachers in turn; there will be good collaboration among them about sharing knowledge. In addition, the teachers will be committed to their institution.

Abstract:
There is a dramatic increase in the number of women students in higher educational institutions but this had not been matched by growth in the number of women in senior leadership positions in Pakistani Universities. The current study was designed to explore the barriers and enablers that influence the professional development of women academics in Pakistan. Furthermore, the study investigated how female academicians manage the balance in their personal and professional life. Semi-structured interviews followed by a probing strategy were conducted to seek responses to these questions. 10 female academicians were selected purposively from two public sector universities of Lahore. Thematic analysis was conducted by using an inductive approach. Member check was applied for the reliability of themes drawn from the data. Each theme was explored in-depth and themes emerged from a smaller number of women were treated separately under the category of unique theme. Women considered their professional career development as a source of pride and gratification. Women academicians at the senior level enjoyed leadership roles as compared to young academicians; who were more involved in teaching and research. Females complained that they had not the information on policies relevant to their job and merit is neglected most of the time by higher authorities. Females claimed that they faced a biased attitude of their senior male colleagues/heads of departments but were highly motivated to face these challenges at the workplace.

Abstract:
Citizenship as associated with educational learning facilitates getting ready our young graduates for the challenges and prospects of a changing world. Citizenship is becoming the key subject in teaching and learning. It is an entrance to a more comprehensive society. So, it is indispensable to explore the function of universities in developing citizenship among graduates. A survey research method is adopted. A questionnaire based study of a sample of fifteen hundred Master level graduates from fifteen public/private universities of Pakistan is therefore undertaken. Analysis of data revealed that a substantial number of the graduates having civic characteristics, were significantly in favor to develop sense of responsibility, leadership skills, curricular and co-curricular activities, knowledge of current World events, civic research and facilities, law and religious studies, civic literacy and ethical awareness, crime prevention and human rights. It is suggested that there should be no gap among learners, faculty and the management for humanizing the civic characteristics and the accessibility as well as sustainability of the civic services in the universities. The faculty and management may be dedicated to student centered learning and the course learning and deliberate conclusions may be focused.

Abstract:
In the business environment today job security is an important and primary requirement of the employees as the employees’ turnover rate is haphazardly increasing in different industrial sectors. This study determines the impact of leadership and organizational identification on the job security of teachers in the private institutions Punjab, Pakistan and the mediation of organizational identification is also tested. Data is analyzed by using Smart partial least squares structural equation modeling (Smart-PLS-SEM). Many teachers suffer from low job security that not only affect them internally but also affect their work performance. Therefore the main objective of our research is to determine the responsible factors which affect the job security of teachers working in the private educational institutions operationalized under BISE Punjab. In this paper, the parameters used for determining the job security of teachers are; Leadership, and organizational identification and mediating role of organizational identification between leadership and job security is also tested. During this study, 150 teachers from different private institutions operational in Punjab were asked to fill up the questionnaires containing a total of 32 items including different numbers of questions related to each determinant. The results showed that the determinants can explain the job security of the teachers up to a significant level. However, regression analysis and validity analysis proves that they are good predictors of job security of the employees (teachers). Beside these conclusions, this paper introduced other scientific queries and issues regarding the different types of relations or connections among the determinants and hence gives probable pathways to explain or interpret the relations.

Abstract. Youth-led early childhood care and education (ECCE) programs offer a promising model for achieving multiple Sustainable Development Goal targets. The program “Youth Leaders for Early Childhood Assuring Children are Prepared for School” (LEAPS) was developed to address the educational needs of children and female youth in rural Sindh, Pakistan. In LEAPS, community youth leaders (CYLs), aged 18–24 years, implement an ECCE program after receiving targeted, practical training and engaging in continuous mentoring and communities of practice. This paper focuses on the experience of LEAPS participation for ten CYLs. Using random intercept generalized linear latent and mixed models, significant improvements were observed in ECCE and professional skills. Quantitative analyses were triangulated with results from a qualitative analysis of two CYL exit focus group discussions. Findings suggest that, in some contexts, youth-led ECCE models can feasibly address ECCE workforce gaps while offering leadership and professional development opportunities for youth.

Abstract:
Purpose Devolution of fiscal and administrative autonomy to public schools is a global phenomenon now. Various models of school autonomy have been adopted both in developing and developed countries. The purpose of this paper is to explore the impact of devolution of fiscal autonomy to public primary schools through Parent–Teacher Councils (PTCs) on retention of primary school children in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, Pakistan. Design/methodology/approach Two sources of data were used to analyze the research question: Education Management Information System for the years 2006–2011 and 2007–2012, and a specially designed survey questionnaire used to compile information about PTCs from 222 public primary schools in the KP Province. Multiple linear regressions were conducted to examine whether PTC reforms are related to retention rates. An education production function approach was used to examine the effect of “inputs” (PTC reform) on “outputs” (retention). Findings The regression results indicate that reforms in procedural mechanisms to spend PTC budget and schools with separate classrooms for each grade level are significant in improving retention to the last grade of primary. The results also indicate that retention in all-girls’ schools tend to be significantly lower compared to all-boys’ schools. Research limitations/implications First, the integration of data sets resulted in a small sample size, 361 schools, out of which the researcher could visit only 222 schools (10 schools per district) due to time and financial constraints. There may be a probability that with a larger sample size the author findings may look slightly different. However, this is the only current data set collected by the researcher in KP, Pakistan. Second, an ideal way of calculating retention is to track each and every child enrolled in a school over a period of five years and to calculate retention at the end of Grade 5 called true cohort model. However, due to unavailability of such kind of data, a more commonly used method, called reconstructed cohort method, is employed. In this method, data on enrollment by grade are used for six consecutive years, with an assumption that the student flow rates will remain unchanged over time and across grades. Practical implications The findings of this study provide vital policy input to the Government of Pakistan in particular and other developing countries in general. The study reveals that PTCs have critical impacts on educational outcomes, school productivity and return on public sector educational investment thus providing an impetus for further strengthening of PTC and community participation. Besides, this study offers significant implications as to how school-based management programs will lead to outcomes under resource scarcity in developing countries. Social implications The paper has implications for the role of school leadership and community participation and for how to engender community involvement in marginalized areas where communities often do not have the time, resources or confidence to participate in their schools. Besides, community participation in parent–teacher meetings means that the school budget is spent transparently and with consensus. Hence, the chances of misuse of funds are minimized to a considerable extent, a dilemma faced by many developing countries. Finally, the collection of PTC-related data regularly especially details about budget allocated, spent and, the unutilized budget may result in better record keeping, which was found lacking during the visit. Originality/value The uniqueness and originality of this paper can be gauged from the fact that no systematic study exists with regards to the impact of school autonomy on students’ retention to the last grade of primary in KP province – a poor and conflict-ridden region in a low-income country (Pakistan). Also, the data collection from primary and secondary sources was not an easy task. However, the researcher as a civil servant has to use personal contacts to collect primary and secondary data. Hence, this study is unique and first of its kind in nature. No such research has been conducted so far by any researcher, especially in KP.

Abstract:
With the advent of 21st century the usage of technology in every field of life made it inevitable to be used in the field of education as well. It is a familiar fact that the current scenario where technology has made advances by leaps, its usage in the field of education is of utmost importance. Like the rest of the world, the educational institutes in Punjab, public and private, are making efforts to adopt and integrate technological advancement in their teaching and learning processes. The universities in Punjab are no exception. However the hurdles and limitations involved in this process are hard to be ignored. Therefore this study will try to highlight those issues that are causing hurdles in use of technology in teaching and learning at universities in Punjab. For this purpose this study has made use of Ely’s conditions model (1999) of technology implementation theory, which is reflected more appropriate for measuring the barriers in technological applications in academics. This research made an extensive and thorough investigation, based on the opinion of 3397 participants. The methodology used was survey research involving teachers, administrators and students from eight public and private universities' faculty of Education and Business. The responses were assessed by applying descriptive and inferential statistics. This study revealed a number of factors responsible for causing hurdles in technology adoption, but the major factor as per the respondents was the unavailability of Resources. There were some other factors mentioned as well such as Commitment, Rewards, Leadership, Participation and Skills. The overall level of involvement of these sub scales barriers is above average; therefore, unfortunately universities are still using the conventional method of education and cannot make as much use of technology as they could have.

Abstract:
Extracurricular activities (ECA) are, nowadays, considered as an essential part of any school system of any level. The present study reveals the relation of ECA with student’s performance, academic achievements, career selection and, last but not the least, professional development (PD) of students in Pakistan. The re-search was carried out by developing a questionnaire. It consists of five comprehensive questions relating the ECA with PD. The validity and reliability of questions were checked. The research population consisted of students, with some managerial and leadership experience, from different institutes of Pakistan. The sam-ple consist of majorly all the members of the respective population. After purposively selection, the ques-tionnaire was distributed among 110 selected members of populations for research. Response rate was 90.9% as 100 members filled the form and all the responses was considered valid for the statistical study. Different statistical methods were used to carry out the research consisting of standard deviation, arithmetic means etc. It was clearly observed the respondent’s consideration of ECA as tool for PD of students is high. It was also observed that consideration of ECA for cultivation of interpersonal skills is high and same rate was high for ECA’s impact on career selection. In addition to this, the consideration rate of ECA for im-proving of managerial skills and self-efficacy is high. So, it is concluded that educational institutes should motivate their students to participate in ECA for better a career.

Abstract:
Islam advocates equality among all people regardless of race, gender, or nationality. However, Muslim women face numerous obstacles that stand in the way of achieving their full potential in resource management. Certain interpretations of religious teachings and Islamic law, especially those related to property allocation and divorce deny Muslim women what they are rightfully entitled to. Many patriarchal societies tend to have clearly defined roles for males and females. Besides that, many girls are denied access to educational opportunities although education and learning is greatly revered in Islam. All these factors cause Muslim women to doubt themselves and lack self-confidence in what they could achieve. At work, women are often paid lower salaries and have fewer opportunities for career advancement, especially in the fields of management, technology, and science. In leadership positions they have to fight harder for respect. Many Muslim women in countries like Oman, Pakistan, Indonesia, and other Islamic nations face these challenges. This paper discusses these factors with the hope that understanding them could lead to more efficient management and utilization of resources in Muslim countries.

Abstract:
Referencias Alam, S. (2017).
