Abstract:
This chapter provides a few guidelines for conducting, interpreting, and reporting primary and secondary research on children and adolescents who are deaf. The focus is on publishing in refereed journals that adhere to the reporting standards of the publication manual of the American Psychological Association. The chapter addresses a few salient quality indicators or desirable research characteristics such as theoretical frameworks, literature review, and sample demographics. Problematic areas such as plagiarism and piecemeal publications are covered, as are the notion of balance within manuscripts and the use of scholarly caution and language in interpreting data. Finally, the chapter ends with recommendations for researchers who are interested in investigating the educational achievement of students who are deaf.

Abstract:
This chapter discusses a number of practical evaluation tools used by qualitative research journals. First, the chapter discusses the American Educational Research Association’s “Standards for Reporting on Empirical Social Science Research,” which emphasizes warrantability and transparency. Second, many ideas on reviewing qualitative research are briefly presented. Third, current qualitative research journals that use and those that do not use specific evaluation tools are discussed. The reasons why some journal editors do not use such specific evaluation tools are identified: trust, freedom, the nature of qualitative research, and “it works.” Other journals that use specific review guides are analyzed. This chapter suggests a holistic way of understanding the evaluation of qualitative research by taking three elements (core values, research processes, and key dimensions) into consideration. The seven most commonly used evaluation criteria are discussed: importance to the field, qualities, writing, data analysis, theoretical framework, participant, and impact/readership.

Abstract:
Journals are becoming increasingly more stringent in their requirements for what must be reported in articles about the psychometric properties of scales. This chapter reviews three of the most commonly used guidelines; the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing, the STARD initiative (Standards for Reporting of Diagnostic Accuracy), and the Guidelines for Reporting Reliability and Agreement Studies (GRRAS). It abstracts portions of these guidelines that are most relevant for scales used in research settings. These cover the reporting of test development, reliability, and validity. The chapter also has a flow chart, adapted from STARD, that should be included when submitting a manuscript about scale development to a journal.

I did my share, that’s all.—Pauline Newman, on the significance of her long careerIn September 1962, Justice ran a two-part profile of Fannia Cohn. The ILGWU journal paid tribute to the elderly woman warrior as an organizer and as the driving force behind the international workers’ education movement. “Throughout the world,” Leon Stein wrote, “those concerned with worker’s education know her well. … Her name, many years ago, came to stand for pioneering efforts to increase the educational opportunities for men and women in the shops.”...

Abstract:
This chapter analyses the relevant aspects related to research journals and examines the growth and trends of social science research (SSR) journals; the status on access and delivery models of SSR journals; the role of institutions, associations, and commercial publishers in promoting SSR journals; and the quality and quantity of SSR journals in India. The study found that of the total 2131 journals analysed, about 84 per cent are published in English, only 9 per cent in English as well as in Hindi/regional languages together, and 7 per cent only in Hindi/regional languages. Analysis of 1992 journals published in English and English/Hindi/regional language(s) shows that over 40 per cent of these are in disciplines of economics and allied subjects. Education, law, and multidisciplinary themes take the majority of the remaining share.
