Abstract:
The present-day educational scenario placed the teachers with multiple roles, and one such area is guidance and counselling where they are expected to be competent through their pre-service teacher training programme as students look up to them for guidance and support in every situation of their student life. Guidance and counselling services in educational system is to develop, assess and improve educational programmes for all the stakeholders to effectively handle the children. The learners consist of different age groups who are vulnerable and need support. The National Curriculum Framework (NCERT, 2005) has endorsed the inclusion of guidance and counselling in the curriculum. In the light of this, it is inevitable that pre-service teachers are equipped with basic guidance and counselling skills since it is evident that India is still deprived of the true spirit of guidance and counselling wherein adequate attention has not been paid yet. The initiation of effectively integrating guidance and counselling along with the teacher educational programme is encouraged by National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT, 2015). In this study, the author has discussed the pressing need of furnishing pre-service teachers with the skills of guidance and counselling so that they are well equipped as they venture into their teaching profession.

Abstract:
Educational contexts have their own peculiar characteristics, such as that of being multi-professional contexts with a wide range of end users. Counsellors working with educational staff must take these specifics into account. In addition, counselling should be a process that, starting out from the “core issue” that led to the decision to initiate the counselling intervention, aims to promote the professional development of educational staff. In this sense, counsellors should design their interventions to encourage meta-reflection on the context, and should themselves adopt a reflective approach. On the basis of these key assumptions, this paper reflects on narrative practices as a resource for counselling in educational contexts, especially the practice of self-writing which also has the potential to act as a reflective tool for counsellors themselves.

Abstract:
The study aimed to assess hospital pharmacists’ knowledge and counselling on ophthalmic preparations before and after an educational intervention was carried out. A cross-sectional study was carried out among 83 pharmacists working at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria. A 30-item semi-structured questionnaire was administered to participants to assess their background knowledge and counselling points on use of ophthalmic preparations. An educational intervention was carried out among the pharmacists to address the gaps discovered. Post-intervention assessment of the pharmacists’ knowledge and counselling on ophthalmic preparations was done a month after the educational intervention to evaluate the impact of the intervention. Data obtained was summarised using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Level of significance was set at p < 0.05. Response rate was 79% (83/105). Fifty-six (67.5%) participants were female and 38 (45.7%) had other educational qualification(s) aside from the basic Bachelor of Pharmacy qualification. The average knowledge scores of the pharmacists on ophthalmic preparations increased from 2.55 ± 1.602 at baseline to 7.93 ± 2.879 post-intervention (p < 0.001). Also, the average counselling scores of the pharmacists on ophthalmic preparations increased from 8.12 ± 1.603 at baseline to 11.46 ± 1.0277 post-intervention (p < 0.001). Years of working experience and postgraduate education were predictors of participants’ knowledge and counselling on ophthalmic preparations. The study addressed the knowledge and counselling gaps identified and there was significant improvement in the knowledge and counselling of the study participants, vis-à-vis ophthalmic preparations.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper was to examine the attitudes of prison inmates and warders (prison staff) to rehabilitative counselling and its relationship to their prison status on one hand and their educational attainment on the other. Design/methodology/approach – The study adopts a descriptive survey research design. In all 123 prison inmates and 110 warders were selected by stratified random sampling from Osogbo prison headquarters, as well as Ilesa and Ile-Ife prisons in southwestern Nigeria. Data were collected through a self-constructed questionnaire titled “inmate and prison staff attitude to rehabilitation counselling”. Data collected were analysed using percentages and χ2 statistics. Findings – The results showed that the prison inmates and staff possessed positive attitude to rehabilitative counselling. No significant difference was found between the attitudes of prison inmates and staff members or on the basis of their prison statuses. However, the study found a significant relationship between the prison inmates’ attitude to rehabilitative counselling and their educational attainment. Research limitations/implications – Statutory provision needs be made for professional rehabilitative counselling in Nigerian prisons in contrast to the religious instructions currently being allowed prisoners. Educational opportunities should be provided to ensure that the knowledge so obtained complements the rehabilitative counselling. Originality/value – This paper fulfils an identified need to study the attitude towards rehabilitative counselling.

Abstract:
Despite the increasing number of e-counsellors, there is a lack of studies especially in the Malaysian context that highlight the skills and practices among e-counsellors and how these are linked to their perceptions when providing e-counselling. This study identifies the relationship between e-counselling skills, e-counselling ethics and e-counselling limitations with counselling self-efficacy among e-counsellors in Malaysia. A total of 159 e-counsellors from various institutions in Malaysia participated in this online survey study. The respondents were selected using the simple random sampling method. The Counselling Self-Estimate Inventory was adopted, and three self-constructed scales were employed for data collection purposes. Correlation analysis found that e-counselling skills (r = 0.597, p < 0.001), e-counselling ethics (r = 0.201, p < 0.001) and e-counselling limitations (r = -0.511, p < 0.001) were significantly correlated to counselling self-efficacy. The structural equation model analysis confirmed the model of relationship between e-counselling skills, e-counselling ethics, e-counselling limitations and counselling self-efficacy. From the three dimensions, e-counselling limitations predicted counselling self-efficacy the best (β value = -0.60), followed by e-counselling ethics (β value= 0.56) and e-counselling skills (β value= 0.18). The findings imply that the extent of e-counsellors’ perceptions on the limitations present in e-counselling play an important role to predict the variance in counselling self-efficacy among e-counsellors. Professional counselling bodies, supervisors and counsellor educators are urged to design a more comprehensive educational and training programme for counsellors. Both counsellor candidates and professional counsellors will benefit from this study as it provides insights for more effective implementation of e-counselling.

Abstract:
Background: Breastfeeding education is critical in improving healthcare professionals’ competencies in providing breastfeeding care to mothers. We evaluated breastfeeding competencies, training, barriers and satisfaction of breastfeeding educational experiences among nurses and midwives in the Sagnarigu Municipality, Ghana. Methods: This cross-sectional study included nurses and midwives providing maternal and child health services at various primary healthcare facilities in Sagnarigu Municipality. Results: Nurses and midwives had higher pre-service breastfeeding training than in-service training with a mean training score of 10.0 and 5.2, respectively. Nurses and midwives who had both pre-service and in-service training had better satisfaction score ( P = .003), positive attitudes ( P = .016) and higher confidence level about breastfeeding ( P = .007). Approximately, 80% of the nurses and midwives reported that they need further training/updating on breastfeeding while 40% reported clinical/professional practice as the significant contributor to their breastfeeding counselling competencies. Mean satisfaction score correlated positively with confidence levels about breastfeeding counselling ( r = .224, P = .022) and pre-service training ( r = .342, P < .001); confidence levels about breastfeeding counselling also correlated positively with attitudes towards breastfeeding counselling ( r = .348, P < .001). Commonly reported barriers to breastfeeding counselling were mother’s poor compliance with breastfeeding recommendations, too much workload, inadequate time and materials for breastfeeding counselling. Conclusion: Nurses and midwives in this study felt confident about breastfeeding counselling, had positive attitudes towards breastfeeding counselling and generally, satisfied with their breastfeeding educational experiences. Despite nurses and midwives agreeing that breastfeeding counselling is integral in their professional practice, their role in providing breastfeeding counselling is hindered by individual and health systems barriers.

Abstract:
The holistic development of a child is attainable in an environment conducive for teaching and learning and Barrell M.(2009) emphasized that the counselling needs of middle students can be addressed through counselling services and constructive learning strategies and methods. Thus, help and support can be availed to the students along their educational journey for their personal, emotional, and psychological growth. The educational setting inclusive of teachers, counsellors, and parents should ensure that holistic education is provided to the students as they undertake their academic endeavours. The learners of secondary schools consist of adolescents who are naive and vulnerable. They need backing to combat the complex challenges of modern life and cope with their pressing academic demands. Rathe (2014) opines that they are possessed by anxiety, mood swings, and intensity of feelings that adversely affect their learning. The present investigation focuses on the counselling needs of secondary students and their learning disorders that have adverse effects on their behaviour and academic performance (Mghweno,2015). This study highlights the need for considering the present educational scenario and the plight of traumatic experiences borne by the students. By exploring the current literature, it analyses studies conducted in India and abroad regarding the importance of establishing student counselling at secondary schools. The findings of the present study revealed how counselling can be instrumental to improve the learning styles of the students and the benefits they could reap from it. Further, the study unfolds the ways and means to tackle learning disorders of the students through counselling.

Abstract:
School guidance counsellors worldwide seek ways of providing appropriate professional assistance to all students. While young people integrate online technology into their daily lives and go online for information and to communicate with each other, school counsellors in Australia are not offering online support to students. This cross-sectional study reported on the reluctance of school counsellors to offer online counselling and the reasons for this. A survey was developed focusing on the intention to offer online counselling based on indicative factors favouring the use of this initiative. 210 school guidance counsellors completed the survey online, which showed that there is conditional support for the introduction of online counselling into the school setting. Counsellors indicated that they would use online counselling if students accepted its use in the school setting though they question how genuine students would be in its use. Most respondents reported a lack of confidence in understanding the ethical and legal implications of online counselling. However, the majority of participants were prepared to undertake further professional development in this mode of counselling. Additionally, they sought confirmation of the effectiveness of counselling students online before committing themselves to it. The implications for school guidance practice are discussed.

Abstract:
To assess the frequency of pregnant women who accept HIV screening using rapid detection test and factors associated with acceptance we undertook a cross-sectional study conducted from July to December 2018. Women aged 20–45 years, who were pregnant and planned to deliver at the facility, were included. Women were counseled and offered about Human Immunodeficiency virus (HIV) screening. A total of 718 women were included in the study. The screening was accepted by 32.3% of women. Six women tested positive in the study giving a seroprevalence of 0.8% in the population studied. Acceptance of counseling and screening varied significantly with age range, educational status, socioeconomic status, and employment status. Women aged 30 years and above ( p = 0.023) and women with higher education ( p < 0.001) were more likely to refuse counselling. Similarly, employed women (p = 0.041) and women of higher socioeconomic class ( p = 0.039) refused counselling. However, when logistic regression was conducted, only educational status ( p < 0.001) and occupational status ( p = 0.039) were significantly associated with acceptance of counseling and screening. The acceptance of counselling and testing for HIV in antenatal care attendees was low. Women of higher educational status and having some employment refused counselling and testing more commonly.

Abstract:
ENGLISH ABSTRACT Is all counselling equally worthwhile? Systemic counselling as relationship building This article examines educational leaders’ / kindergarten teachers’ systemic counselling practice in using the systemic counselling model, in a social sustainability perspective. The research question is: How can systemic counselling contribute to social sustainable interaction in the kindergarten? Social sustainability is about the social and cultural dimension in order to safeguard human well-being in an inclusive community. We concretize social sustainability in the kindergarten as coordinated interaction in teams, where belonging, inclusion, trust, and participation can ensure that the kindergarten staff have equal opportunities to participate in the work processes with the children. Social sustainability and interaction are analysed in this context. We interviewed four educational leaders / kindergarten teachers with continuing education in counselling and long work experience. The theoretical framework for our analysis is communication theory, the systemic counselling model, and team leadership in kindergartens. Our analysis shows that systemic counselling is highly valued, but requires good professional knowledge of the counselling model, the ability to use circular questions, as well as structured time for counselling. Despite formal systemic counselling competence, in practice, systemic counselling is carried out to a small extent. The article contributes new knowledge about systemic counselling and shows challenges related to closeness and dependence in teamwork. The informants experienced vulnerability in their counselling role.

Abstract:
In this century, the world is undergoing many changes in social and economic arena. All these changes are opening door to many opportunities for young people who wish to enter in professional life; and choosing a career is becoming a complex task. The students when entering and leaving the higher education are required to explore their prospects at national and global level (Gybers, 2001). Thus, higher education institutions are required to offer the information through guidance and counselling services. In Pakistan, there are limited guidance and counselling services in higher education. Therefore, the current study was designed to investigate the need of career development at higher education level. The objectives of the study were to; (1) find out the existing practices of guidance and career development; (2) investigate the need of educational, social, emotional and psychological dimension of guidance and counselling, (3) explore the students’ need of guidance and counselling regarding career selection. All the public sector universities of Punjab were the population of the study. Cluster sampling technique was used at first stage for the selection of universities, and stratifies sampling technique were used for the selection of sample. Four universities were selected as cluster and 1003 students (579 female and 424 male) were selected from twenty departments from all four universities. A self-developed instrument was the tool to collect data; the instrument was based on five Likert scale. The tool was pilot-tested in a local university for the reliability of instrument. Cronbach Alpha test was applied and the value of this test was 0.853; the value showed the reliability of instrument. For the purpose of derivation of results, the data were analyzed through percentage and ANOVA by using SPSS. The results of the study showed that although there is some Guidance and Counselling practices exist in some of universities, but working at limited scale is not enough for the population of students enrolled in the universities. But, there is need of guidance and counselling educational, social, emotional, and psychological and career selection in all universities. Need of Guidance & counselling for career selection had been profoundly felt. The comparison among universities Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan was found to be in difference with the rest of three universities on prevailing practices of Guidance & counselling. In Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan, there was more need of all educational, social, emotional, psychological and career selection of guidance and counselling.

Abstract:
AbstractThe aim of this study was to compare the effects of a didactic stress management program, group counselling, and a control group on school counsellors' stress coping strategies. Thirty-four school counsellors were randomly assigned to either a didactic stress management group, group counselling, or a control group. The didactic stress management group and the group counselling for stress management group were conducted concurrently for 10 consecutive weeks. A control group received no treatment. The Ways of Coping Inventory was administered to all participants at three different stages: pre-treatment, post-treatment, and at 6-month follow-up. The results indicated that both the didactic stress management group and the group counselling for stress management group showed a significant reduction in the use of helpless coping strategies and a significant increase in the optimistic coping strategies at post-treatment. At follow-up, there were obvious group differences in the use of helpless coping strategies. Only those who were treated using group counselling exhibited a decrease in helpless coping strategies at the follow-up assessment.

Abstract:
The present study investigated the effects of supervision on the management of vicarious traumatisation among telephone and online counsellors on BoysTown Helplines. BoysTown Helplines include Kids Helpline, a 24-hour national counselling service for young people aged 5–25 years of age, and Parentline (PL), a counselling service for parents in Queensland and Northern Territory. The services provide telephone and email counselling services and Kids Helpline also provides web counselling. All counsellors (100%) worked as Kids Helpline counsellors (N = 38) and 42.1% (n = 16) as PL counsellors. The counsellors conducted 50,979 counselling sessions in 2008, of which 38,703 were completed over the telephone and 12,276 online. Of these, approximately 44% involved trauma clients, putting the counsellors at risk of suffering some level of vicarious traumatisation. The findings from 38 supervised telephone and online counsellors showed that vicarious traumatisation fell within normal limits and positive coping strategies were above average. While correlations did not prove to be significant between supervision and vicarious traumatisation, the size of counsellors’ trauma caseload proved to be strongly related to both vicarious traumatisation and negative coping style.

Abstract:
Although the Scottish Government is currently providing direct funding to deliver school-based counselling services for young people (The Scottish Government, 2018), guidance on implementation by Local Authorities is not provided. Consequently, implementation varies across Scotland. The role of Educational Psychology Services (EPSs) in relation to wellbeing is now established and they are well placed to support the development of school counselling approaches. EPSs also possess expertise in implementing evaluative frameworks and in therapeutic work with children and young people. Acknowledging that therapy can be harmful, EPSs can support the development of safe and effective models of school counselling. Argyll and Bute Council is the second largest local authority in Scotland by area, with the largest number of populated islands. This unique context creates logistical challenges to providing equitable counselling services for young people, necessitating creativity and flexibility in service design and delivery. Out with remote communities, non-attendance and, in recent times, the global pandemic mean that equity of provision is not just an issue for vast rural settings. In this paper, it is proposed that the EPS can play an expert and strategic role in the implementation of an accountable and equitable school counselling service. Although the project is at an early stage, in this paper the Argyll and Bute Educational Psychology Service strategy is described. The focus is on the context of what is already known about school-based counselling, how it is being locally applied and the role of the EPS.

Abstract:
A chatbot is a computer application that is developed to prevaricate and process conversation between humans and digital devices offering the users an experience as if they are communicating with a person in real life instead of a digital device. With today’s customers expecting immediacy and actualization in their interactions with devices, the addition of chatbots as a communication channel has become critical to growing demand. This paper presents the design of an expert system for educational guidance for students available after SSC & HSC. This project is aimed to implement a web-based chatbot using Rasa NLU and machine learning algorithms that analyze user’s queries and understand the user's messages. The bot is designed to address the queries of the user related to the courses they should opt for and colleges that offer the course. The user just has to query through the bot and based on the inputs taken from the user the chatbot will accordingly predict a suitable course for the user. The system responds by showcasing the predicted course for the user. The user can access the bot without any pre-registration.

Advocated by the Economic and Social Council in 1980, the right to vocational counselling took ten years to be recognized. Indeed, in the 80’s, vocational counselling was more an obligation than a right. For the jobseekers, it determined the access to the package on vocational training ; for the salaried employees, the access to counselling was possible only when redundancy was impending. The July 4th 1990 Act on the “Crédit-formation” acknowledged that an unskilled person had a right to an assessment of competence and to further education. But it is the July 3rd 1991 National Interprofessional Agreement that created for the first time in France a true right to vocational counselling. It gives any salaried employee the opportunity to benefit from an assessment of personal and professional skills while working.

Abstract:
OBJECTIVES: To create and evaluate the efficacy of a short individualized educational intervention program, based on Prochaska’s transtheoretical model, for a six-month period in a population of adult asthma patients living with domestic animals but sensitized to these pets.METHODS: A randomized, controlled study using a pretested questionnaire was conducted at three different times (pretest, and at three and six months postintervention).RESULTS: Eleven members (29%) of the intervention group and eight members (21%) of the control group removed their pets within six months (χ2=3.23; P>0.35). The two groups showed similar improvements in their perception of the benefits of pet removal and in their level of belief that they could do it. The experimental group showed a greater improvement in knowledge acquisition about asthma and allergies than the control group (P<0.05). Both experimental and standard educational interventions were effective in facilitating progression through the stages of behavioural change.CONCLUSION: Overall, the results do not support the utility of behavioural change educational intervention, tailored to the transtheoretical model stage of the individual, in the context of convincing patients to remove their pets from their homes. However, the decision-making aid appears to be helpful in raising awareness of the problem of asthma and allergy in the patient, and in developing appropriate knowledge.

Abstract:
The need to provide education for all has continued to be at a high level even now when access to education is easier and considerably wider than in the previous historical periods. There is a general causality as well as a specific one supporting this necessity. The latter includes an additional set of reasons which connect defining characteristics of disadvantaged learners with the limitations of the pandemic crisis and its effects on communication. They also continue to manifest themselves after the health restrictions have been lifted and further hinder communication and educational counselling, thereby imposing additional barriers to inclusive education. This study is a literature review through which we aim to make a synthesis of current communication and educational counselling new strategic approaches suitable for use in the post – COVID context for facilitating access to education for disadvantaged students. The objectives of the study are as follows: O1: to identify a set of strategies which correspond to the specific communication pattern and information needs of the children and teenagers nowadays; O2: to identify current educational counselling strategies which can be successfully used in the post - COVID context to enable well-informed career decisions for disadvantaged students; O3: to develop a formative intervention model for social inclusion of students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The study findings may be useful in school and career counselling in pre-university education, but also in collaborative approaches between pre-university and academia in order to facilitate the inclusion of the disadvantaged students.
