Abstract:
Eduardo De Filippo, universally known as Eduardo, is the most important Neapolitan playwright of the twentieth century. The number of critical and academic studies on his works is vast, but little has been written about his relationship with the foreign stage, and especially with English-speaking theatre. Some information can be found in, for example, the appendix to the books by Isabella Quarantotti De Filippo and by Barbara De Miro D‘Ajeta, or in the chapter dedicated to Italian theatre by Gunilla Anderman in her Europe on Stage. The central purpose of this thesis is, therefore, to analyze the complex relationship between Eduardo and the English-speaking world, using a varied methodology which includes elements of translation studies and aspects of theatre history. The opening chapter provides an introduction which examines general aspects of theatre translation, the differences between translation and adaptation and the specific problems related to the translation of Neapolitan dialect into English. Thereafter, the body of the work is divided into two main parts where I study the two-way relationship between Eduardo and Anglophone world. In the first part, ―Eduardo traduttore e adattatore‖, attention is focused firstly on Eduardo‘s adaptation of the short story by O. Henry The Gift of the Magi, the basis of Natale in casa Cupiello, and then on his work as translator-adapter of William Shakespeare‘s The Tempest. The issue is analyzed from a philological perspective, but also examines the staging of Eduardo‘s La Tempesta, and considers the influence of Shakespeare on the entire output of the Neapolitan playwright. In the second part, ―Eduardo tradotto e adattato‖, I analyze the translations, adaptations and stagings of Eduardo‘s works for British and American theatres. After an introductory overview of the translations and productions of Eduardo through the world, I shift my attention to the specific cases of the United Kingdom and of the U.S., analyzing: Filumena Marturano, Sabato, Domenica e Lunedì, Natale in casa Cupiello, Questi fantasmi!, Napoli milionaria!, Il sindaco del Rione Sanità, Le voci di dentro, La Grande Magia and five one-act plays. The works are analyzed individually in monographic chapters which highlight both the translational and the theatrical aspects. In the first case, I compare the original texts with their English versions, noting differences in meaning and linguistic choices. As regards theatrical staging, I base my analysis on journalistic material from major newspapers of the period such as The Times, on interviews and biographies of actors and directors involved in the performances, as well as on previous critical and academic contributions on the subject. At the end of the thesis, there is an appendix with interviews with directors and translators who have worked on Eduardo‘s plays.

Eduardo Sueds paintings are underlined for kinds of results and a radical unsystematic process. Seeing the painters action method we propose a critic and interpretative analyses of his production. We use two ideas for it. The first is the swerve and the second is the labyrinth. The swerve is a strategic revision that suits with the operation of painting, demonstrating the mode as Sued works the tradition and labyrinths idea ascribe the character to the form of experience, its image, residing there the unit of production. Thus the labyrinth will be present as in intra-poetics relations moment as in possible way to interpret this work. The reconstruction idea comes of its lively and broke process to paint to reconstruct possible meanings to the painting today something that it will do lawful at the contemporaneous world no to intend to reduce it for dogmas. The labyrinths and swerve ideas discover links to the modern tradition through their constructive heritage. And they dont leave to replace and to underline in these paintings contemporaneous dilemmas that are theirs

Oswald, Kalen R. "Eduardo Mendoza's Barcelona." Diss., The University of Arizona, 2001. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/290668.

Full text
Abstract:
The criticism on Eduardo Mendoza that focuses on the role of Barcelona in his works mostly considers the city solely as an important backdrop for the action of the novels or in some cases a protagonist in a given work. There is not any comprehensive analysis of Mendoza's vision of the Barcelona throughout the trajectory of his novels, and the studies that do focus on the city in one or two of his works generally lack a viable urban theoretical basis. The object of my study is to reassess Mendoza's work by focusing on how it emerges from the process of the urbanization of consciousness described by the geographer and urbanist David Harvey, and how its role relates to the politics of space and place in late 20th-century Barcelona. Not only does this approach facilitate a greater understanding of the texts, but also examining the novels in this light provides a greater understanding of Barcelona. Chapter I elaborates on the urban theories of Harvey, Henri Lefebvre and others that detail the urbanization of capital, the urbanization of consciousness and the role of space and place in the urban process under capitalism. In the second chapter I look at Barcelona as a concrete example of the urban process and place construction from the implementation of the Plan Cerda to the post-Olympic era. Chapter III looks at La verdad sobre el caso Savolta (1975) and La ciudad de los prodigios (1989) as examples of an urbanized consciousness anticipating significant transformations; La verdad facing the end of the Francoist dictatorship, and La ciudad preparing for the 1992 Olympics. The fourth Chapter treats Mendoza's second and third works, El misterio de la cripta embrujada (1979) and El laberinto de las aceitunas (1982), comic detective novels written during and about the crucial era of the transition to democracy. Chapter V analyzes Mendoza's narrative perspective regarding Barcelona of the 1990s in Sin noticias de Gurb (1990) and Una comedia ligera (1996).

The subject of this thesis is an intertextual and psycho-analytic study of the relationship between two major dramatists of twentieth century Italian Theatre, Luigi Pirandello and Eduardo De Filippo. The analysis is in part conducted according to the concept of influence developed by Harold Bloom in The Anxiety Of Influence and expressed in "Freudian" terms, in which one poet, the later (Eduardo De Filippo), is presumed to "struggle" with or try to surpass his precursor (Luigi Pirandello).

This essay discusses the aesthetic, semiotic and cultural dimensions in the poetry developed by Eduardo Kac, called "biopoetry . The term biopoetry can be understood by the poetic whose writing semiosis takes place from the use of living organisms, a semiotic interconnection between the fields of art, biology and techno- science. We started our research, discussing under the bias of ecocriticism, the intersemiotic relations between the sign and the poetic biomaquinic way to do the biopoetry. We also deal with the aspects and ethic and aesthetic problematizations that exist in the horizons from the production of biopoetic art. Then we stopped on the artistic and poetic principles that mark the work of Eduardo Kac in various scopes of production, from holopoetry, through the digital poetics until the realization of his biological poetry. Finally, from treading the analytical-interpretive productions of "Genesis" (1999), "Erratum I" (2006) and "Cypher" (2009), we consider here the properties and elements of the biopoetical sign, discussing the prospects of language addressed in the horizons of biopoetic production and the problematizations that it brings to the sphere of the technological poetics of the contemporary, especially concerning to the man-machine interface, the notions of environment in literature and the development s performances in the poetic art.

Abstract:
This dissertation approaches the poetics of the multimedia artist Eduardo Kac, internationally known for his innovative and controversial works and for his performance as a professor, critic and researcher of contemporary artistic modalities that involve the use of new technologies, including some that were developed by himself, such as the holopoetry, the telepresence and biotelematic art and the transgenic art. We consider that the idea of creation in his works, mainly the relationship between this creation and a mystical conception of language, is based on concepts and techniques of the Jewish Kabbalah. By analyzing the transgenic art works that compose the Creation Trilogy: Genesis (1999), GFPBunny (2000) e The Eighth Day (2001), we intend to highlight the references and creative procedures that connect the ancient and traditional structure of knowledge (the Kabbalah) with the analysis of creation and its relationship with language in the kabbalistic tradition and contemporary art.

Abstract:

Financial Stability Report - Second Semester of 2021. Banco de la República, September 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.32468/rept-estab-fin.sem2.eng-2021.

Abstract:
Banco de la República’s main objective is to preserve the purchasing power of the currency in coordination with the general economic policy that is intended to stabilize output and employment at long-term sustainable levels. Properly meeting the goal assigned to the Bank by the 1991 Constitution critically depends on preserving financial stability. This is understood to be a general condition in which the financial system assesses and manages the financial risks in a way that facilitates the economy’s performance and efficient allocation of resources while, at the same time, it is able to, on its own, absorb, dissipate, and mitigate the shocks that may arise as a result of adverse events. This Financial Stability Report meets the goal of giving Banco de la República’s diagnosis of the financial system’s and its debtors’ recent performance as well as of the main risks and vulnerabilities that could affect the stability of the Colombian economy. In this way, participants in financial markets and the public are being informed, and public debate on trends and risks affecting the system is being encouraged. The results presented here also serve the monetary authority as a basis for making decisions that will enhance financial stability in the general context of its objectives. In recent months, several positive aspects of the financial system have preserved a remarkable degree of continuity and stability: the liquidity and capital adequacy of financial institutions have remained well above the regulatory minimums at both the individual and consolidated levels, the coverage of past-due loans by loan-loss provisions remains high, and the financial markets for public and private debt and stocks have continued to function normally. At the same time, a surge in all the types of loan portfolios, a sharp downturn in the non-performing loan portfolio, and a rise in the profitability of credit institutions can be seen for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic. In line with the general recovery of the economy, the main vulnerability to the stability of the Colombian financial system identified in the previous edition—uncertainty about changes in the non-performing loans portfolio—has receded and remains on a downward trend. In this edition, the main source of vulnerability identified for financial stability in the short term is the system’s exposure to sudden changes in international financial conditions; the results presented in this Report indicate that the system is sufficiently resilient to such scenarios. In compliance with its constitutional objectives and in coordination with the financial system’s security network, Banco de la República will continue to closely monitor the outlook for financial stability at this juncture and will make the decisions necessary to ensure the proper functioning of the economy, facilitate the flow of sufficient credit and liquidity resources, and further the smooth functioning of the payment system.
