Abstract:

Information from Theory towards Science, the professor Stefan Vlăduţescu’s book from University of Craiova, is a confirmation of high intelligence level and propensity of author’s cognition. From various semiotic materials (words, images, gestures, drawings, etc.), following certain principles, under different procedures (operations, actions, movements, maneuvers, mechanisms, strategies) using means (languages, codes, subcodes) and specific tools (knowledge, concepts, categories) adapted aim between earth (with autocorrection by feedback) and firmament (as anticipation by feed-forward) rises an imposing edifice, a cognitive construction: this is information. It has systemic and procedural character and is organized on four coordinates: metric, semantic, structural and pragmatic.

Abstract:
Between 1969 and 1979, Edward Said redefined American comparative literature, coining phrases, supplying a new critical pantheon (Vico, Schwab), and, above all, devising a method. Falling between generations and facing two different kinds of continental èèmigrèè——one philological, the other textualist——Said outmaneuvered the latter by reinterpreting the former. In a two-pronged move, he unleashed an arsenal of arguments against both new critical formalism and its latter-day avatars in ““theory.”” With these arguments, his authority was penetrating and atmospherically felt as he chipped away at the edifice of traditional comparative literature by emphasizing the situatedness of form and the transitive intelligence of humanist intellectuals.

Abstract:
Abstract Smart structure is defined as that structure equipped with sensors (especially continuous and composed of fiber optic), so that it is capable of transmitting data of interest about its state of health (deformations, cracks, oxidations, etc.). This technology can facilitate the preventive maintenance of buildings and the management of their structural health. Therefore, an aspect of interest necessary to analyze in order to know if the technology is applicable or not, is to evaluate its profitability. Thus, the objective of this article is to perform a cost-benefit analysis of smart structures, studying on the one hand which is the initial cost increase involved in the implementation of the proposal, and on the other hand to evaluate which is the saving of money to over the time that the application of it represents, what allows to establish the payback period of the initial investment, and from which moment you can expect net benefits.

AbstractLatin American metropolises have experienced the emergence of new forms of appropriation of urban space. This space has witnessed the construction of intelligent buildings, closed urbanizations and residential elitization projects. Although these elements were studied to characterize large metropolises, little is known about intermediate cities. This study examines whether the characters developed to define the advance of gated communities in large metropolises can adapt to the analysis of an intermediate city such as Gran San Miguel de Tucumán (Argentina) Its supply of infrastructure and services makes this the most important city in the northeast of Argentina and it often functions as a regional capital.

Abstract:
Universities and higher educational institutions, in the country or across the globe create new knowledge through their study of the existing ecosystems along with the constraints and challenges that lie therein. The most crucial tool in the box towards solving these gaping issues happens to be academic research. The knowledge generated at these epicentres address the problems, related to health, climate change, sustainability among many others. The findings of the research offer substantial breakthroughs to enhance the living standards of the people, better utilization of the limited resources and preservation of the planet. With the changing and ever-growing role of the institutions of higher learning and universities in particular research has become all the more crucial. There is hardly any domain where universities and the scholars don’t have a role to play. With spectacularly arrayed disciplines coming under the ambit of education, the researchers have a ringside view of the world problems. If we pick up any instance of authorities dealing with contemporary issues, we are sure to find a few academics in the core team. Academics and particularly the hard research has emerged as the new go-to guy. With so much riding on the research, any dilution of its sanctity would bring down the entire edifice of progress and development. Any laxity on the rigorous methodologies or standards procedures may prove very catastrophic for all the stakeholders and the community as a whole. Sadly it has been observed worldwide that researchers often indulge in misconduct while pursuing their education and research enterprises. Misconduct refers to a gamut of wrong practices like plagiarizing, fabricating or falsifying data, manipulating images or pictures to substantiate their finding; reporting selectively to support their research objectives. The menace of gift and ghost authorship is also prevalent across academic and research intelligence. Any of this dilutes the quality of research and questions the authenticity of the resulting knowledge.

AbstractInnovative teaching and learning methodologies challenge conventional architectural design education for improved students´ creativity, knowledge, skills and competences. These new strategies can improve students´ engagement, motivation, and attainment, but they also demand a teaching team´s great effort and are linked to a set of difficulties. This article analyses and unfolds the keys of an innovative teaching project proposal conceived as a workshop, which promotes Nature´s interaction with the architecture of the future. The proposal has been devised and planned by me to be developed as a lecturer and postdoctoral researcher, at an Architecture Research and Educational Institution. The project, where the classroom is understood as an architectural laboratory in which the meeting between the subjects Architectural Design and Building Construction takes place, integrates a variety of innovative education methodologies: Gamification, Flipped Classroom, Learning Based on Challenges, Design Thinking and Collective Intelligence. Through it, architecture students are able to improve their creativity and achieve diverse knowledge, strengths and complementary skills. This offers resources for innovative teaching good practice and implementation, to facilitate innovation at the classroom level. It presents tools to overcome the challenges facing innovative learning models in Architecture education. Above all, it aims to foster innovation in architectural design education by empowering and inspiring teachers and other education staff to use innovative teaching methods while sharing best practices and experiences.

Sustainable building is one area where innovation is constantly being challenged. Innovation means offering something new or changing what exists in order to achieve new results. At present the hardest goal is transforming the current situation where the construction sector has the highest fossil fuel consumption, is the largest producer of non-reusable waste and the biggest polluter. In fact, the environmental impact of building design and construction is enormous: in Europe buildings are responsible, directly or indirectly, for approximately 40% of total primary energy consumption and for around 36% of CO2 total emissions. Sustainability criteria can minimize or eliminate negative environmental impacts through a conscious choice of design and constructive practices better than those commonly in use. This design approach allows a reduction in operating costs, an increase in market value and users' productivity. ... [edited by Author]

Abstract: The city of São Paulo experiences today a new step in its process of urbanization and a new stage concerning its role in the Brazil's socio-spatial shapping. Furthermore, new technical and regulatory content ensures the city the role of ubiquitous metropolis in the national territory, as the city builds the foundation of a manufacturing center and information radiator for the whole country. In this context, São Paulo remains structuring itself to carry on the headquarters of large national and international corporations that have in the city an important node of their networks. In the organization of a real estate market to meet the demands of these large corporations stand out three transnational companies of real estate consulting: Jones Lang LaSalle, Cushman & Wakefield and CB Richard Ellis. From the production of information on and for the corporate real estate market, these companies compete for the conformation of a new business centre in the city. Also the production of information and the services provided by these companies position themselves in order to induce a new arrangement of technical objects, represented by "intelligent buildings". These buildings have been using feature technical characteristics quite distinct from early generations of commercial buildings, focusing, for example, large slabs and components related to transmission of data and information from a telecommunications network installed in them. On the other hand, the spatial arrangement of buildings in the city of São Paulo revealed a high concentration in its new business center. Currently, this area, located in the southwest quadrant of the city, renew your road and communicational structure to meet the demands of large enterprises there located, through coalitions between the private sector and the public sector. These pacts turn out remarkable, among other ways, by two urban operations ongoing in the area: the Urban Operation Intercropped Faria Lima and Água Espraiada. The implementations of these new instruments of urban intervention have marked a process of updating the corporate use and fragmentation of the territory in São Paulo city, favoring real estate market

Abstract: Home autonomation is a modern feature that is becoming more common, nowadays technological solutions available are synonym of comfort and safety instead of being considered an expensive luxury. Different autonomation options are now acquirable for general costumers. For contractors and incorporate, the main issue is to offer an autonomation structure allowing the costumer to suit comfort and safety to the family budget. Programming light intensity and curtains for a nicer atmosphere, being able to reach home security system either using phone or internet are some of the solutions available for home autonomation. Nowadays, autonomation systems can be purchased in many different stores. The main issue related to this kind of commercially available autonomation is that the different parts of the system are not integrated and are not able to communicate, being a potential source of extra costs and problems. On the other hand, if the autonomation system is planned for a specific house, considering who is going to use the system, most problems could be avoided. Creating a specific autonomation project means plan the electric installation, the wires design and related accessories responsible for data distribution, voice and image storage. The aim of this work is to provide an integration of home systems based on the wide experience accumulated by industrial autonomation, exporting the well-known technology for home autonomation

Abstract:
The doctorate carried out is of an experimental application type and arises from the need to solve real problems. In line with the Strategy Energy Technology Plan, user involvement in energy policies has become the first priority. This work is inherent in the activities carried out jointly by ENEA, the Polytechnic University of Marche and the Apio company. My PhD activities mainly concerned two application areas: “Smart Buildings” and “Smart Homes Network”. After a preliminary study of the state of the art, we will proceed with the configuration, implementation, management and control of an experimental demonstration of a network of Smart Homes in a neighborhood of Rome. Constructive feedback will be provided to the user and community. The goal will be to encourage energy awareness and transform every user from a simple consumer into an active player in the energy market. The analysis of the data of these pilot residential buildings will show an average of -8% of the electricity consumption obtained. In order to incentivize energy saving, improve the acceptability of the system and the quality of life of end users, a series of additional services will be introduced, in particular in the Assisted Living area for the measurement of vital parameters and the sharing directly with the external by developing an adaptive interface; in the field of home security, managing situations of potential risk; and finally, introduction of voice commands. A study and design of services will then be conducted on the electrical flexibility of the user to model their energy demand based on the demand of the electricity market. A Low Level Diagnostic study will be carried out for the recognition of malfunctions. Interfacing with a higher level "Smart City Platform" will also be implemented, also defining use cases for data exchanges for interoperability. A patent proposal will also be developed on a Hydro Smart meter that will set various innovative objectives, including that of disaggregating both water consumption and that of other users. Finally, a study and implementation of prediction on electricity demand will be carried out in order to predict the three-hour electricity demand of homes, starting from real three-hour general energy data. The best results will be obtained using deep learning networks with LSTM long-term memory. In the field of “Smart Buildings”, we will first work on a simulated real tertiary building, studying future demand / response scenarios. In particular, the optimization of building air conditioning will be studied, finding an average "theoretical" saving of 16% compared to the reference case. Subsequently, the same simulated building will be equipped with various sensors both at the switchboard and single room level, which will make it possible to introduce control rules. We will continue with the definition of a Fault Detection procedure to verify the correct implementation of the sequential commands given by the control system. The most innovative cases in Blockchain and DLT (Distributed Ledger Technologies) will be examined, summarized by a swot analysis. Furthermore, a “Proof of Concept” based on Blockchain technology will be created to certify the energy flexibility of electricity users. An interactive interface will also be developed to control the devices installed in the building in real time, through the visualization on the floor plan. The interface between the PV system and the smart building management system will also be implemented. Finally, a smart Windows application will be implemented in the F40 building, obtaining overall thermal levels about 2 ° C lower.

Sanchez, Maguiña Mildred Madeleine, and Feliz Pool Rusbel Vidal.

Abstract:
Cost overruns in the construction of reinforced concrete buildings represent losses of 28% of the investment (Flyvbjerg, 2002), this is due to the fact that the sections of the structural elements are oversized and generate higher costs in concrete and steel. Therefore, the present research was carried out using a methodology capable of optimizing the dimensions of structural elements (columns, beams and slabs) in regular 6-story multifamily buildings. The methodology used was based on the use of feedforward neural networks, in which the preliminary data of a building were established as input variables and the dimensions of each structural element as output variables. For this purpose, 30 6-story buildings were prepared as a database and in each one of them the drift verifications were performed according to the Peruvian Technical Standard E 0.30 and the resistance of each structural element. From the database, 22 were used for training and 8 for the internal validation of the neural network. The structure of the neural network was established after running 10 different neural networks and the network with the most homogeneous correlation coefficient close to 1 was selected; in this research it was 0.98. Finally, a comparison was made between the volume of concrete used in a building dimensioned with conventional methods with the use of ETABS software and those obtained with the use of the methodology employing artificial neural networks, according to this, the difference of concrete between both cases was calculated. With the results obtained, it was proved that the methodology applied in this research provides an effective saving close to 10%.

Abstract:
Constitutional law must integrate the changes in the structure of social communication in the course of the digital revolution into the edifice of constitutional law and general constitutional doctrine, just as it must integrate the increasing dehumanisation of decisions by algorithms and artificial intelligence in both the public and private law spheres. The discussion on these multi-layered and complicated issues were lively debated by experts from theory and practice at the Societas Iuris Publici Europaei (SIPE) conference. Another topic of the conference was the acceptance of the primacy of Union law by the national supreme courts and the question of whether and how a convergence of the different points of view would be possible here.

Abstract:
This chapter explores the importance of magnitude as a theme in Laurie Anderson’s work, particularly Big Science. It begins by tracing histories of the titular phrase and then investigates the semiotics of bigness. Particularly with reference to individual identity, big systems, big edifices, and big collections of data all suggest superhuman states of consciousness. Accordingly, big knowledge systems such as linguistics, artificial intelligence, and the occult are all discussed. The chapter then reconciles their superhuman scale (and the attendant kinds of awareness it implies) with the paradoxical fact that such tokens of bigness are themselves human-made. Throughout, it draws connections between these notions and the album.

Abstract:
Chapter 3 details the shadow government and the edifice of power that was built to ensure the MPLA’s longevity but more importantly the survival of the Presidential circle. It explains the structures upholding the securitized and shadow state, dominated by the Casa de Seguranca (Security Cabinet, SCP) of the Presidency. It briefly describes the central structures and the multiple portfolios it managed which allowed it, via a vertical reporting system, to command the security apparatus and key areas of the cabinet. This chapter explores the contours of the SCP and the parallel army that sustained it. It analyses the role played by the three intelligence services that took on a broader surveillance role, spying on the elites, opposition and infiltrating society. I use the example of three cases – the book club coup, the Kalupeteka religious sect massacre and the assassinations of activists Cassule and Kamulingue – to highlight the dysfunctions, overactions and violent underpinnings of the system.

Abstract:
During the last decades of the 20th century a new environmental and ecological awareness has spread in the western world. Together with the technological and digital revolution, it has also directed the architectural and urban design towards an integration/crossbreeding of natural, artificial and technological elements, giving special attention to the aspects of environmental sustainability and of energy saving at the different levels of intervention, from the “intelligent” buildings to the network of the smart cities. Every day we witness to the creation of spaces that are more and more interconnected, user interactive and interagent, flexible and able to exchange information with the outside world. We are now able to supervise our life contexts as never before by collecting and organizing a huge amount of information without precedent. Furthermore, new technologies are used in many cases to simplify and facilitate bidirectional and real-time communication between users and providers, citizens and administrative offices and, in wider terms, among the various actors of the landscape inside a more and more close and diversified network of physical and immaterial interconnections. The eco-sustainable landscape design requires therefore a systemic approach and an overlook in order to permit the match between safeguard and preservation on one hand and transformation and regeneration on the other. This is as inevitable as it is essential for our life contexts, as well as the use of unconventional tools diffusely employed whether for a territorial study in accordance with the complexity of the actual dynamics or for the construction of a collective project of landscape.
