Abstract:
Abstract:Economic sociology was a core concern of early political economists like Smith, Marx, Pareto, and Marshall. The new economic sociology has sought to revive the neglected subdiscipline using the construct of interpersonal networks. Richard Swedberg has assembled 42 substantial papers in this collection. This article, reviewing his selection, proceeds in three stages. First, it provides a general framework for the debate. Second, it discusses the papers specifically linked to networks. Third, it analyses the contributions that go beyond the concept of social processes as personal relationships.

Abstract:
- Economic sociology and economics have encouraged, since their intellectual origins, a different relationship with public economic policies and this diversity is still very much alive in today's debate. This is particularly true in the last decades, when economic sociology has developed strongly and when it get involved in public policy related issues. The paper argues that, with regard to public economic policies, the economic science has a stronger "influence" than economic sociology, despite the scant soundness of economic analysis would not justify it. At the same time, the paper goes on, today's influence of economic sociology on public economic policy has grown rapidly, especially because of the social and relational embeddeness of economic life. These opportunities will be exploited by economic sociology if few conditions will be realized: first, a closer attention to development and innovation issues is needed and, second, a stronger relationship with research centres and think tanks should be supported.Key words: economics and economic sociology, rethoric of economics, economic sociology and public policies, innovation, local development, embeddeness

Abstract:
Abstract The paper begins with a brief reminder of the origin of economic sociology. It then surveys research by economic sociologists from the 1980s to the present, with a focus on their relation to political economy, which ranges from close to arm's length. Finally, beyond any differences between economic theory and economic sociology, the paper considers how both approaches can be connected in the socio-historical and economic study of economic inequalities by Thomas Piketty, and the use of matching markets by Alvin Roth.

Abstract:
This article posits that traditional economics contains relevant sociological dimensions and that these consist primarily of conceptions and elements of social economics or economic sociology. On this premise, it explores these sociological dimensions in the form of conceptions and elements of social economics and/or economic sociology in classical political economy and neoclassical economics. The article identifies explicit conceptions of social economics such as the proposal for social economy and the idea of economic sociology as well as its implicit versions, including its implications in ‘purest’ economic theory. Alternatively, the article finds no important sociological dimensions in the form of rational choice theory, i.e. the ‘economics of society’, in classical and neoclassical economic science. The article reconsiders economics and sociology in their shared elements or complementary relations as ‘sister’ social sciences.

Abstract:
Talcott Parsons' important legacy in the field of economic sociology still remains underestimated. The paper pays Parsons his due, without avoiding criticism. The paper focuses on his most mature work in this field, i.e. „Economy and Society”, co-authored with Neil Smelser. Many weaknesses in Parsonian approach are rooted in his methodological outlook, in particular his anti-empricism that leads him to prefer conceptual methods over the facts, which preference, in turn, is responsible for many substantive omissions and errors Parsons commits. Nevertheless, some of his ideas, such as an input-output paradigm, or even his famous AGIl scheme have proved to be mor fruitful. Many critical points made by Parsons' opponents are, therefore, found to be irrelevant or misplaced. This refers in particular to an interesting and innovative in a number of respects theory of money.
