Full textENGLISH ABSTRACT: The world today is facing many energy challenges such as power outages experienced internationally and in South Africa. The demand for energy is constantly increasing and is creating environmental problems such as climate change, which is presently a major concern to society. This study is an attempt to establish how energy saving mechanisms such as the elimination of non-essential power can add economic value within the mining industry. This paper examines the effect of non-essential power and how it could assist companies to reduce their energy consumption, aid local power utilities in a crisis and maintain normal production levels. This research report was based on an investigation for power saving opportunities at a mining company during a power crisis. The paper looks at energy efficiency and the barriers to the adoption of energy savings. Companies in general do not have a structured way of addressing non-essential power saving. Companies are not aware of the value such initiatives could have on corporate responsibility and sustainable reporting. The benefits of energy efficiency and nonessential power on the triple bottom line are not clearly documented in literature. When comparing the impact of non-essential power on the triple bottom line, it became obvious that further research is required in order to prove whether it influences the social aspect. The impact of power generation on the global environment has not been clearly calculated and linked to the value of saving power. The literature review highlighted that companies are focusing on long-term initiatives instead of smaller initiatives, which requires less effort. During the investigation of the mining company, it was found that not much effort was made during the design stages in separating the electrical circuits from non-essential and essential power. The author concludes that switching off non-essential power held economic and environmental benefits for the mining company. The author therefore concludes that switching off non-essential power impacts positively on the economic and environmental part of the triple bottom line. It was found that the elimination of non-essential power is easy to implement with minimum investment and effort. Furthermore, the savings from these initiatives could easily be measured to calculate the return on the investment.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Ons kry deesdae al meer te doen met uitdagings soos internasionale en plaaslike kragonderbrekings in die energiebedryf. Die aanvraag vir energie verhoog deurlopend en veroorsaak omgewingsprobleme soos klimaatsveranderinge, wat ‘n groot bekommernis is vir die samelewing. In hierdie studie word gepoog om vas te stel hoe energie besparings meganismes soos die eliminering van nie-noodsaaklike krag ekonomiese waarde kan voeg tot die mynboubedryf. Die uitwerking wat nie-noodsaaklike krag het en hoe dit maatskappye kan help om kragverbruik te verlaag terwyl produksievlakke steeds gehandhaaf word, is hier ondersoek. Plaaslike kragvoorsieners kan ook baat vind hierby in krisistye. Hierdie navorsingsverslag is gebaseer op ‘n ondersoek van krag besparings geleenthede by ‘n mynmaatskappy gedurende ‘n krisistydperk van kragonderbrekings. Die verslag kyk na die doetreffendheid van energieverbruik, asook na die hindernisse wat ondervind word in die inwerkingstelling van energie besparings inisiatiewe. Maatskappye het in die algemeen nie ‘n gestruktureerde metode om die probleem rakende nie-noodsaaklike krag aan te spreek nie. Hulle is nie bewus van die nut wat sulke inisiatiewe kan hê op korporatiewe verantwoordelikheid en volhoubare verslaggewing nie. Die voordele wat energiebesparing en die eliminering van nie-noodsaaklike krag op die ekonomie, gemeenskap en omgewing het, word nie duidelik geboekstaaf nie. Verdere navorsing moet gedoen word om die impak van energiedoeltreffendheid en nie-noodsaaklike krag op die sosiale aspek te bewys. Die uitwerking wat kragopwekking op die globale omgewing het is nog nie bereken en verbind met die waarde daarvan op kragbesparing nie. Die verslag beklemtoon dat maatskappye fokus op langtermyn inisiatiewe in plaas daarvan om te kyk na kleiner inisiatiewe wat minder moeite en tyd sal verg. Die ondersoek by die mynmaatskappy het getoon dat daar nie klem geplaas is op die onderskeiding tussen nie-noodsaaklike en noodsaaklike krag met die installering van die elektriese stroombane tydens die ontwerpstadium nie. Daar is gevind dat die afskakeling van nie-noodsaaklike krag ekonomiese en omgewingsvoordele vir die maatskappy inhou. Daar is tot die slotsom gekom dat die afskakeling van nie-noodsaaklike krag in die algemeen dus ‘n voordelige uitwerking het op die ekonomie en omgewing. Dit is maklik om te implementeer met minimum moeite en belegging. Die besparings deur middel van hierdie inisiatiewe kan ook maklik gemeet word om die opbrengs op die belegging te bereken.

Full textThe relevance of the study is that in the conditions of high level of competition in the world, as well as the sanctions that apply today for Russia, an important factor in the economic development of industry is the rational use of resources at industrial enterprises, which is associated with their limited availability and their high price. The purpose of the master's thesis is to develop methodological foundations for evaluating the effectiveness of industrial enterprise programs for energy saving. The paper analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness of the current energy saving program at an industrial enterprise and develops measures to improve the effectiveness of energy saving programs. The sources used were educational, methodological, and research literature, the results of the author's empirical research, and corporate statistics. In the master's thesis, the author developed a methodology for evaluating the energy saving program for industrial enterprises of metallurgy, which includes: forming a program based on P2M and PMI standards and taking into account the analysis of the cost of energy tariffs for 5 years. The use of this methodology allows you to deepen the analysis and evaluation of the effectiveness of investment projects.

The analytical researches and suggestions for induction surfacing have been made chisel blades using energy saving mode to receive the operational properties of the deposited layer with economical consumption of electricity. The purpose of this work is to meet the educational needs of residents of the village of mountains and surrounding villages, creating appropriate and favorable conditions for improving the educational process, increasing the level of attractiveness through project development «Construction of a secondary school of I-III degrees for 24 classes (600 students) in the village, Gora, Kyiv region», which was performed by students Chestniishyi D. and Haluza S. The innovative component of the project is to introduce a systematic approach to solving energy saving problems, which will further reduce the relevant budget costs. As a result of the project implementation, significant social and economic effects will be achieved.

Glass is regarded as a common material for building, because it has great transparency and aesthetics. However, the insulation of the glass is worse than the concrete structure, when the sunlight illuminate directly on the glass, it will cause the indoor temperature increasing. In order to maintain the indoor temperature in a comfort zone, we have to use the air-conditioner frequently, and that consumes a large proportion of energy. Building integrated photovoltaic material is called BIPV, combined with traditional solar modules, and be used to replace the general construction of the glass. Generally speaking, glass cannot effectively insulate the heat from the sunlight and the generate heat caused by generating power. When the heat penetrates into the house, it will make the indoor temperature raise, and will consume more energy of the air-conditioner. Therefore, three sets of analysis software used in this study are thermal flow analysis software (CFDesign) - analysis of the indoor temperature, power generation analysis software (Solar Pro) - analysis of generation capacity during the year, and energy analysis software (E-Quest) - analysis of the whole year heating and cooling energy consumption. We use four different types of glass in buildings for simulation, such as general glass, general modules, the heat insulation solar glass I and II. Looking forward to obtaining the result from the computer software simulation analysis, and it can reduce the cost caused by the design faults.

Besides the electricity for ventilation systems, lighting electricity accounts 80 % of the total electric energy consumption in an underground parking lot. If the electricity for lighting facilities in an underground parking lot can be smartly distributed according to the time of day and the number of cars entering or exiting the parking lot, the overall lighting electricity can be effectively reduced. This study aims to reduce the electric energy consumption of lighting facilities used in underground parking lot. To achieve this objective, infrared and ultrasonic sensors were adopted to detect moving cars on the driveway of a parking lot. The analog signals detected were converted to digital signals by using Arduino Mega 2560 microprocessing controller and the signals were then transmitted to the AC lighting control circuit to regulate the output of effective AC voltage based on the voltage level of different digital signals. The operation of lighting facilities equipped with T8 LED lamps were controlled by the detected infrared signals from human or cars. Two modes of operation, namely ON and STANDBY, are available, in which the power consumption was 48W and 24W for ON and STANDBY mode, respectively. Implementation of such control measure can significantly reduce the electric energy consumption of lighting facilities for underground parking lot and at the same time maintaining the minimum lighting requirement needed for surveillance purpose. In this study, the lighting facilities inside the underground parking lot of AAEON building in the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology were selected to carry out the investigation. The DIALux lighting simulation software was adopted to design a suitable lighting model which has complied with the CNS underground parking lot lighting standard. The lighting for the driveway region had an average luminance of 77~120 Lux, minimum luminance of 42~59 Lux, maximum luminance of 118~202 Lux and luminance uniformity of 0.541~0.486. Based on non time-of-use rate, the annual electric energy consumption was calculated to be 71.457~87.496 kWh which is equivalent to an annual electric fee of NT$ 304,041~372,286. Similarly, the annual electric fee was calculated to be NT$ 213,139~249,815 if it was based on time-of-use rate.

In this paper, the endogenous growth model developed by van Zon and Yetkiner (2003) is extended to explore the relationship among energy use, CO2 abatement, and economic growth. We illustrate how energy policy, climate policy, and R&D subsidy policy should be designed and coordinated so that the CO2 abatement target is achieved without affecting economic growth. The focus of this paper is to compare the effect of energy tax on economic growth with that of carbon tax, given the same CO2 abatement target. Besides, the scenarios of tax recycling as a subsidy on R&D under these two tax regimes are analyzed. The insights which emerge from this paper are summarized as follows. First, the effect of carbon tax on economic growth and that of energy tax are both negative. Their relative magnitudes hinges crucially on the levels of abatement intensity. When the level of abatement intensity is sufficiently low, the negative effect of carbon tax is smaller than that of energy tax; and vice versa. Second, the results of tax recycling scenarios show that subsidizing R&D would lead to an improvement in energy-saving technology. The relative magnitudes of the economic effects under these two tax regimes also depend on the levels of abatement intensity. When the level of abatement intensity is sufficiently low, the economic growth rate of carbon tax regime is higher than that of energy tax; and vice versa.

In recent years the global price of various energy price continue to increase all over the world, businesses need to improve the efficieny of their equipment reasonablely, and trying to improve the energy efficiency in order to reduce energy costs. After analyzing the current situation of Taiwan's hotel industry, we can know energy consumption has increased graduallt because of continuously increasing in the number of tourists and number of hotels in Taiwan. Actually, energy-saving only takes into consideration on saving money is not comprehensive enough, energy using and generate electricity will also cause air pollution and emissions of carbon dioxide. Therefore, this study uses cost benefit analysis(CBA) of energy-saving to consider the internal and external costs and benefits of performance contracts for all members of society to make the effective assessments completely. Therefore, if the hotel industry can cooperate with the energy service companies(ESCO)on industry planning, apply with the latest energy-saving technologies and concepts of energy conservation measures(ECM), and for the hotel to save every possible energy cost.This study also compares TAIWAN's ESCO industry condition with the United States and Japan, and do SWOT analysis on ESCO industry in order to establish a set of subsidies on technology and promote mechanisms for energy-saving industry to have a better development in the future.

Energy Efficiency is a key greenhouse gas mitigation policy and first fuel for economic growth as well. In addition, energy conservation will produce multiple benefits which include energy security, jobs creation and CO2 reduction etc. The purpose of this study includes: identifying energy efficiency market boundary, assessing energy efficiency value, and building up economic incentive instrument for stimulating energy efficiency investment. The results as follows: (1) Energy saving of industrial sector is 1,603KLOE in 2014、5,1KLOE in 2015(2) The multiple benefits of energy saving are as follows: the value of energy security bout NT$ 14.8 billion in 2014、NT$ 5.1 billion in 2015;The deduction of energy import cost burden is NT$620 per capita in 2014、NT$151 per capita in 2015; the CO2 emissions reduction around 4.46million ton in 2014、1.44million ton in 2015; and the full time job creation is 17,000 – 52,000 per year in 2014、7,000 – 12,000 per year in 2015. This reach provides the theoretic base for energy saving supporting policy and measure by Taiwanese government, furthermore, this study suggests three kind of energy saving incentive mechanism, energy saving guarantee, energy saving insurance and white certificates to the government.

This research uses Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) methodology to assess energy saving and carbon reduction credits, which comes from energy-saving lighting replaces project (i.e. using T5 energy-saving light bulbs to replace inefficient T8 light bulbs) in the government sector, besides, this research employs the Net Present Value (NPV) approaches to evaluate its economic feasibility. The main results are obtained as follow: (1) Adopting energy-saving lighting in the government sector will provide substantial carbon reduction credits, for instance, if emission factor is 0.637 kilos of CO2 per kWh, it would reduce 342,784 tons CO2 emissions per year; otherwise, emission factor is 0.772 kilos of CO2 per kWh, it will reduce 358,328 tons CO2 emissions per year. (2) A higher carbon emission factor will increase economic benefits of the CDM project. If price of Certified Emissions Reductions (CERs) is constant, then the lower discount rate will increase its economic benefits. (3) Emission factor of electricity generation is the key factor, which will influence carbon reduction and economic benefits of the CDM project. Since the power generation emission factor in Taiwan is less than the emission factor which uses CDM methodology to calculate. Therefore, This will decrease its benefits, and limit CDM project promotion in Taiwan. (4) Domestic CDM project is difficult to pass the additionality condition, hence, establishes a domestic additionality principle is a priority policy to launch CDM project in Taiwan.

Full textThe conservation of the natural environment (in Republic of Armenia) is a scientifically sound basis for state, public and international activities aimed at ensuring harmonious interactions between society and nature. Main objectives of the environmental protection include: preservation, restoration, and neutralization of natural environment, reasonable use of natural resources, reduction and prevention of physicochemical, biological and other harmful effects on the environment. At the same time, it is not only environmental, but also a complex of socio-economic, ecological, health, technical, technological, scientific-educational, moral-psychological, natural-cultural and other issues, the solution of which depends on the sustainable and secure development of the world community. The aim of the research is to propose the implementation of measures to increase the environmental protection efficiency in the Republic of Armenia and, as a goal, measure the economic benefit of these solutions. The framework to achieve these goals is to use the sustainable development theories and circular economy solutions. To start it is intended to make a diagnosis of the environmental impact of the industries located in Armenian ecological-economic regions and identify the measures implemented to manage the wastes produced by these industries. After this mapping of the problem, solutions should be proposed in order to contribute to more sustainable development and efficient environmental protections of these regions. As it can be not feasible for this project to analyze every regions as a whole, the stress should be laid on separate zones and focus on a single one to start. The key emphasis must be placed on production, the environment to avoid harmful waste and secondary waste recycling. Which, in its turn, is an element of recycling economy, will aim to empower the region. In the future, this secondary product will also find its place in the agricultural and industrial markets. One of the goals is to create regional ecological-economic energy system (REEES), and to be guided by the peculiarities of the zones to find solutions to it.
A conservação do ambiente natural (na República da Arménia) é uma base cientificamente sólida para atividades estatais, públicas e internacionais destinadas a assegurar interações harmoniosas entre sociedade e natureza. Os principais objetivos da proteção ambiental incluem: preservação, restauração, neutralização do ambiente natural, uso razoável de recursos naturais, redução e prevenção de efeitos físico-químicos, biológicos e outros efeitos nocivos ao meio ambiente. Ao mesmo tempo, esta não é apenas uma questão ambiental, mas também conjunto complexo de questões socioeconómicas, ecológicas, de saúde, técnicas, tecnológicas, científico-educacionais, morais-psicológicas, naturais-culturais e outras, cuja solução depende do desenvolvimento sustentável e seguro da comunidade mundial. O objetivo da pesquisa é propor a implementação de medidas para aumentar a eficiência da proteção ambiental na República da Arménia e, como meta, medir o benefício económico dessas soluções. O enquadramento para alcançar esses objetivos assenta nas teorias de desenvolvimento sustentável e soluções de economia circular. Para começar, pretende-se fazer um diagnóstico do impacto ambiental das indústrias localizadas nas regiões ecológicas e económicas da Arménia e identificar as medidas implementadas para gerir os resíduos produzidos por essas indústrias. Após esse mapeamento do problema, soluções devem ser propostas, a fim de contribuir para um desenvolvimento mais sustentável e uma proteção ambiental eficiente dessas regiões. Como não é possível para este projeto analisar todas as regiões como um todo, o enfase deve ser colocado em zonas separadas e focar numa única para começar. A ênfase principal deve ser colocada na produção, o meio ambiente para evitar resíduos nocivos e reciclagem de resíduos secundários. O que, por sua vez, é um elemento da economia de reciclagem, terá como objetivo capacitar a região. No futuro, este produto secundário também encontrará seu lugar nos mercados agrícola e industrial. Um dos objetivos é criar um sistema regional de energia ecológico-económica (SREEE) e ser guiado pelas peculiaridades das zonas para encontrar soluções para isso.
