Abstract:
This work is an attempt to apply Florian Znaniecki’s concept of human ecology to an analysis of the functioning and transformation of a patriarchal society. It tackles the issue of the spatial aspects of how a patriarchy functions, whose identification – and especially their sociological description and explanation – become possible or more comprehensive using the said concept. These issues are (1) the impact of gender on the experience of the space and (2) gender communities vs. space – the socio-spatial manifestations of the social balancing of the status of men and women. The author’s reflection is theoretical and concerns the patriarchal model of society.

AbstractWe begin with the premise that the law of entropy could prove to be fundamental for the evolution of intelligent life and the advent of technological civilization. Building on recent theoretical results, we combine a modern approach to evolutionary theory with Monte Carlo realization techniques. A numerical test for a proposed significance of the law of entropy within the evolution of intelligent species is performed and results are compared with a neutral test hypothesis. Some clarifying aspects on the emergence of intelligent species arise and are discussed in the framework of contemporary astrobiology.

Abstract:
The main argument to be developed in this article is that such phenomena as war, vandalism and urban ‘terrorism’ are not isolated events, but reflect the values and beliefe embedded in the deep institutional structure of advanced industrial societies. It will be argued that in such societies, however politically patterned, there is a universal, and virtually unequivocal, acceptance of economic growth and expansion as the prime objective to be pursued. As such economic expansion depends on advances in scientific and technological knowledge the control and manipulation of nature is given full legitimacy. This attitude towards nature is seen as a central feature of the industrial culture as a whole and reflects the dominance of material over other human values. And it is the asymmetry between these value systems which predisposes the industrial culture to violence and instability: in short it gives ideological support to the use of violence in the resolution of problems, whether these be of a political, social or economic nature. It will be contended that there is a clear need to go beyond the traditional marxist analysis of capitalism in order to show how the institutional structure of advanced industrial societies plays a part both in stimulating and reproducing the ideology of violence notwithstanding considerable differences in the political arrangements in such societies. It follows from this that what is required is a broad theory of industrialization, rather than specifically of capitalism. As Illich argues, Our present ideologies are useful to clarify the contradictions which appear in a society which relies on the capitalist control of industrial production; they do not, however, provide the necessary framework for analysing the crisis in the industrial mode of production itself. As the writer has argued elsewhere the formulation of such a theory could be enhanced through the establishment of continuities between the thought of radical humanists such as Illich and that of the critical theory of the Frankfurt School. This article reflects an initial attempt to achieve a synthesis of such ideas. In the concluding paragraphs the article will address itself to a key question – what new modes of thinking, what kinds of institutions, are necessary if the ideology of violence is to be transcended? It will be argued here that the possibility of such transcendence depends on the establishment of a new organizing principle – ‘deep ecology’3 – as a basis for the construction of an alternative social reality. In contrast to the prevailing attitude in advanced industrial society which legitimizes humankind's assumed position of dominance and control over all aspects of nature, ‘deep ecology’ lays stress on oneness and interdependence with humankind no longer at the centre of the stage. Through the exploration of the concept of ‘deep ecology’ an attempt will be made to develop an ecological perspective in sociological thought. The consistent failure of sociological theorizing to encompass the ecological debate is a serious disciplinary weakness at a time when there is evidence of a mounting ecological crisis of global proportions. Whilst it is accepted that the thesis presented here cannot claim more than tentative status at this stage, the writer's minimum aims will have been achieved if it acts as a catalyst for the further discussion and development of these ideas within the discipline.

Abstract:
Understanding socio-ecological interactions requires an interdisciplinary approach that recognizes the value of both a social and an ecological perspective. However, such a recognition does not yet automatically result in an integral approach. Many studies of socio-ecological transformations start from either social science or a natural science perspective, and take results from other academic disciplines merely as a given, thus treating these disciplines as black boxes. In this editorial we argue that socio-ecology requires a new paradigm that not only seeks to transcend the separation between social sciences and ecological sciences but also develops a more intimate relationship between these different academic disciplines. We argue that studying socio-ecological interactions is not merely the sum total of social scientific and ecological research, because socio-ecological interactions are not interactions between sociological and ecological systems, but interactions that take place within the socio-ecological whole. Therefore, the study of socio-ecological interactions should start with a new ontology, in which social and ecological aspects are considered different aspects of one and the same reality. The papers in this special issue all show aspects of socio-ecological interactions, but also illustrate the challenge of studying socio-ecological interactions in a comprehensive way.

Abstract:
Socio-ecological problems are relevant, both at the global and at the national and regional levels. In 2020, much attention is paid to ecology. Due to environmental problems, it is planned to switch from a standard economic linear model to a circular economy. The authors considered the theoretical side of the circular economy, as well as the principles of such a model. The article discusses the existing scheme for the disposal of municipal solid waste, and also shows a new scheme for the disposal of municipal solid waste in the Arkhangelsk region as part of the EcoTechnoPark Shiyes project. The article discusses both the positive and negative aspects of this project. The authors conducted a sociological survey among the population of the Russian Federation, where it was proposed to evaluate the attitude to the EcoTechnoPark Shiyes project and the possibility of organizing separate waste collection. At the end of the article, possible solutions to the problem of recycling solid waste are suggested, options for adaptation and motivation of the population to solve this problem are considered.

Abstract:
The dispersed interpretation of ecological issues in architecture creates grounds for the confusions and contradictions inherent in the sustainable challenges. The relationship between sustainability and its architectural representation remains a troubled one. In contemporary architectural praxis the term sustainability is frequently little more than a fashionable phrase or comfort word. Through analysis of the myriad of projects, articles, and books on the subject of sustainable design, it is evident that sustainable architecture has incorporated an unnecessarily limited and inappropriate conceptualisation of social ecology. In order to overcome this deductive logic of sustainable architecture this paper has two aims. First, it investigates different notions of ecological sustainability. The paper argues that we must fundamentally revise the focus and scope of the debate about sustainable architecture. Second, following the work of Chilean architects Elemental, this paper elucidates issues of design process in constructing residence units with respect to participatory practices of community members. It explores a design process of housing in relation to issues of socio-ecological aspects. Concretising the argument, this paper investigates competing interpretations of ecological and sociological features in architectural process of designing residence units.

Abstract:
The museum serves as an effective tool for learning and evaluating the latest signs of valorization of natural objects and environmental and social phenomena. Unlike departments and institutes specialized in biological disciplines, the museum has a wide range of cognitive competencies for the public. Social isolation, active transition to remote methods of communication, as well as psychological tensions make clear the socio-natural problems that existed before the pandemic. Along with a clear differentiation of methods of behaviorism and ethology, their nomenclature additions, it is necessary to use important manifestations of the integration of these areas of psychology. To solve this methodological problem by force only by methods of museological interpretations. The paradigm of coevolution provides an opportunity to operate with the concept of evolutionary process in relation to heterogeneous socio-biotic systems. In the Carpathian region, the sociological strategy should integrate the positive aspects of fragmentation. Models of such coevolutionary integration are various complexes – from indigenous soil-detrital complexes of substrates and reducers to coenopopulations of species. It is the soil profiles of succession series that reflect the history of coevolution of secondary ecosystems and act as reliable benchmarks in the diagnosis of probable changes. Behavioral principles of behavioral ecology should become a normative element in the knowledge of coevolutionary changes, and the museum serves as a universal center of analysis and forecast of further coevolutionary development of human-nature relations.

Abstract:
The paper is devoted to the analysis of quality of life in towns of Serbia based on subjective assessment of inhabitants of certain towns. Quality of life refers to the set of living conditions assessed in terms of satisfying human needs, and in an urban environment it could be observed in dimensions of housing, employment, education, culture, recreation, health, ecology, etc. The analysis has used data from survey research conducted by Institute for Sociological Research of University of Belgrade - Faculty of Philosophy in 2013-2015. Kragujevac, Sabac, Uzice, Novi Pazar, Sombor, Zrenjanin, Leskovac and Zajecar have been chosen as case studies, and the sample of each town is representative of the urban population aged from 18 to 65 years. The aim of the paper is to present results of the mentioned survey research in order to gain insight into certain aspects of subjective experience of quality of life in studied towns. The paper analyses important problems of local community or town that residents perceive as worrisome, then the most important improvement in quality of life in town during the last five years, according to the respondents, as well as the activities organised by residents themselves to improve the quality of life in their town. There are similarities between the mentioned towns, like unfavourable economic situation or low level of civic activism, but also some differences which point to the locally specific problems and solutions.

The humanity experiences new moments of uncertainty. We came to the 21st century of the Christian was in the midst of the astonishment of the finite support of life on the planet, due to the affectations in the biosphere. Given this dramatic context, the UN - United Nations has made constant calls for all social segments to reflect on their environmental responsibilities. In this sense, this thesis seeks to provide new reflections on the historical sense of Social Work in contemporary times and seeks to draw attention to the socio-environmental aspects that are articulated with the legal attributions of the profession in Brazil. Part of the realization that the social misery and social question identified in the 19 st century by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels were in fact disputes over the different uses of natural resources, therefore, it is shown that they were expressions of the socio-environmental question. It has as theoretical support the ecological aspects addressed by Marx throughout his works, from his doctoral thesis. In this it is evident that such author, who is referential in Social Work, had great concern with the environment. The fact that the third generation of human rights includes environmental preservation is also aligned with this aspect. Thus, due to the ethical principle of the intransigent defense of Human Rights, all Social Workers are deontologically committed to reviewing their knowledge and doing, perhaps, to promote new professional reconception, necessary, therefore, to meet the demands that arise in function of these Signs of time. It is an exploratory research whose result seeks to clarify a context. The methodology used dialectics, interviews, field research, bibliographic sources, documents and correlational studies
Abstract:

The build of the socio-environment paradigm is resultant from the comprehension that isolated protection is not possible, implying collective care. The human being, as a biodiversity integrant, is supported by his laws, but also by environment laws. The human genome is unique for each individual and distinguishes itself from the others beings of the same species. The development of The Human Genome Project made possible the access to and the use of genetic information. Science evolution must be ruled to avoid improper use of genetic information, but also for granting universal access to it. The human being must not be discriminated by its genetic information. Genetic information access should only be for individual health improvement. Informed assent is essential for the access and the use of this information. Pharmacogenomics, in its turn, provides treatment and cure for diseases in agreement with every individual genetic information. The biorepositories and biobanks are important to preserve genetic material destined to research, such as future use in the medical treatment of the donor. Genetic researches must be lead in a clear and ruled form in order to avoid retention of biopower. The access to the human genome can permit its manipulation with bioterrorist intents of reaching general population or a specific group. Some countries are already patenting the genes, although they are considered findings and not inventions. The non permission of gene patenting in Brazil put the country in disadvantage with the others that permit, because, in the future, our country could pay royalties for the already patented in the development of genetic researches. All these situations show the importance of protecting human genome for this and future generations. The creation of national and, mainly, international laws is indispensable.

This research had as a general objective, to elaborate a study on the compassion category and how it presents itself in the thought of Pope Francisco, especially in the Encyclical Laudato Si'. We had as specific objectives: to characterize the category by relating it to elements identified in the encyclical, investigate and discuss how the category is present in the thought of Francisco and identifying the main meanings of the category in the Encyclical Laudato Si'. The theme of this dissertation arose from the desire to carry out research that treated compassion as a principle to be studied for its relevance in the process of maturing the human being in its relations. As a hypothesis of the research, we consider that the compassion category is expressed in an underlying way throughout the text of the Encyclical, through the use of elements of the category present in the text and also in the interlinkages of the main meanings of the category: anthropological, ecological and theological. The methodological approach used to compose this study was based on bibliographical and documentary research. We looked for authors who representing the state of the art about what was being researched and who presenting a discussion model that was closer to our intention of placing the compassion category in a social and global context, using it as a key to reading. As a result of the research, we note that through compassion, the human being is recognized within life, since this principle is capable of eliminating boundaries, creating bonds of brotherhood and building bridges of accessibility

Natureza-cultura. Território. Identidade. Existências socioculturais.
Abstract: Following the models of major projects designed to Amazon oriented to the "development" and "progress", thus follows the construction of the UHE Belo Monte, under the black light of the speeches that justify its construction from the cost-benefit to the country, disregarding the social, cultural and environmental costs that it represents. The justifications of actions for the project is based on the valuation of nature as the exclusive object of economic value, which does not reach the different systems of meanings based on nature-culture relations constitutive of symbolic practices, social, cosmological and production of indigenous peoples of the Xingu. The main objective of this thesis is to analyze the impacts to the modus vivendi of the Xingu's indigenous peoples, in a broad sense of their practices and knowledge, the senses and meanings attributed to their territories, essential components of their own identity. Therefore, interviews and free conversations with different indigenous leaders were made, with representativity of social movements, non-governmental institutions and the Federal Public Ministry; and the application of questionnaires to researchers who made up the "Panel of Experts". The main theoretical frameworks that guided the present study addresses the proposals by Enrique Leff and Boaventura de Sousa Santos, in order to support the instrumentalization processes of nature, as well as in the design of the possible alternatives to the cultural reinterpretation of nature, listed as one of the results of the analysis of the proposals supported by this thesis. Keywords: Economic-instrumental rationality. Nature-culture. Territory. Identity. Sociocultural existence.

Abstract:

The present study analyzes the oppositions, as well the dialogues, between urban spaces and natural environment on the constitution of Fortaleza City (capital of the Ceará State - Brazil)as a "regional mepropolis". With the focus on the lake-dwelling fishermen, this work points to the close relationship among urban development and the fishing activities that occur by the border of this process. It also underlines the conflict in the discourses relative to the diverging interests of the fishermen crafts, entrepeneurs and the public authorities about the uses and appropriations of the pounds. The empirical research was made at the Parangaba Lagoon and describes the sociabilities invented in a place "liminar" condition - relationships of the genders, the corporal movements and the practices of fishing in fresh water.

Abstract:
The objective of this study is to determine the strategy of the classical Islamic boarding school in maintaining its existence amid the rapid development of the globalization era and also to find out the curriculum formulations used to equip students to face the modernization era. This research is qualitative, using the deductive-interpretive analysis method, with a sociological-phenomenological approach. The research was conducted at the classic Islamic boarding school Tremas, Pacitan, East Java. The research was conducted at the Tremas classical Islamic boarding school, Pacitan, East Java, which is an open institution for modernization and globalization. The results of the study indicate that the pesantren’s strategy to maintain its existence and sustainability in the modernization era is as follows. (1) Optimizing the management function of Islamic boarding schools by distributing authority in five aspects, namely ma’hadiyah, ma’arif majlis, anasyathoth, finance, and secretariat. (2) Organizing formal education starting from Kindergarten, Madrasah Tsanawiyah (middle-level school), Madrasah Aliyah (high school), Vocational High School, and Ma’had Aly. (3) Carrying out various non-formal and informal educational activities as a characteristic of salafiyah education. (4) Establishing vocational institutions to equip students with skills. (5) Founding Ma’had Aly as an effort to produce a cadre of scholars. As for the curriculum, this Islamic boarding school assembled its curriculum independently based on the vision and mission of Pondok Tremas, absorbed the aspirations of the community, and adopted some curriculum content from the Ministry of Religion and the Education Office. This curriculum contained several characteristics: (1) implanting faith, morality and enriching Islamic scholarship through the study of kitab kuning. (2) Arabic strengthening. (3) Pesantren adaptation by adding general science lessons. (4) equipping students with skills education. (5) enriching the repertoire of Islamic thought by studying the works of ulama ‘Nusantara.

Abstract:
Abstract Why do badgers live in groups? If not for benefits linked to alloparenting or hunting success, what might favour Wytham’s 23 groups of c. 8 badgers, versus hundreds of individual burrows? The answer lies in the transition from behaviour to ecology, and so this transitional chapter begins by documenting badger diet in Wytham. An important element is the earthworm, and we use almost 40 years of data to reveal that young badgers, with least resilience to tolerate periods of food scarcity, present the greatest starvation risk. We revisit ideas, such as the Resource Dispersion Hypothesis, that interpret society as an emergent property of ecology combined with factors such as ability to tolerate food insecurity. Moving from ethological observations of badgers foraging for worms, and an exploration of optimal foraging theory, we document how badger social group geometry has changed over the decades. We ask what aspect of sociology imposes a glass ceiling on group size, and show the time scale of the fissioning of the original 12 progenitor groups in the 1970s into the 23 contemporary millennial groups. How does this affect interpretation of latrine-marked boundaries? This chapter leads to the question of whether the badgers’ evolutionary past has prepared them for twenty-first-century Wytham Woods. Do the ecological circumstances of Wytham in 2020 fit within the envelope of adaptive intra-specific variation (the sociological phenotype) that defines a badger, or might sociality be an as-yet not fully exploited compromise for high-density living?

Abstract:
The article describes the history of one of the first sociological studies carried out in the country to determine the ecological consciousness of the population on the example of the city of Bratsk. The author examines the historical and modern aspects of the formation of the ecological situation in the city, its impact on the life of the population, studies the attitude of residents to the ecological situation and measures for its improvement among various social and age groups. The author pays special attention to the ratio of ecology and the migration outflow of city residents, which is confirmed by the data of modern statistics.
