Abstract:
The persistence of HIV-1 viral reservoirs in the brain, despite treatment with combination antiretroviral therapy (cART), remains a critical roadblock for the development of a novel cure strategy for HIV-1. To enhance our understanding of viral reservoirs, two complementary studies were conducted to (1) evaluate the HIV-1 mRNA distribution pattern and major cell type expressing HIV-1 mRNA in the HIV-1 transgenic (Tg) rat, and (2) validate our findings by developing and critically testing a novel biological system to model active HIV-1 infection in the rat. First, a restricted, region-specific HIV-1 mRNA distribution pattern was observed in the HIV-1 Tg rat. Microglia were the predominant cell type expressing HIV-1 mRNA in the HIV-1 Tg rat. Second, we developed and critically tested a novel biological system to model key aspects of HIV-1 by infusing F344/N control rats with chimeric HIV (EcoHIV). In vitro, primary cultured microglia were treated with EcoHIV revealing prominent expression within 24 h of infection. In vivo, EcoHIV expression was observed seven days after stereotaxic injections. Following EcoHIV infection, microglia were the major cell type expressing HIV-1 mRNA, results that are consistent with observations in the HIV-1 Tg rat. Within eight weeks of infection, EcoHIV rats exhibited neurocognitive impairments and synaptic dysfunction, which may result from activation of the NogoA-NgR3/PirB-RhoA signaling pathway and/or neuroinflammation. Collectively, these studies enhance our understanding of HIV-1 viral reservoirs in the brain and offer a novel biological system to model HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders and associated comorbidities (i.e., drug abuse) in rats.

Abstract:
OBJECTIVES/GOALS: Ecotin is a potent periplasmic serin protease inhibitor that was first described in Escherichia coli (E. coli). Ecotin is known to inhibit a broad range of serine proteases including NE. Therefore, we hypothesized that ecotin can inhibit the NE activity present in CF clinical sputum samples. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: To investigate the function of ecotin on CF sputum, orthologues from Campylobacter rectus and Campylobacter showae were recombinantly expressed and purified from E. coli to generate C. rectus ecotin, C. showae ecotin, and E. coli ecotin. Ecotin was added to CF sputum supernatant samples at various concentrations and NE enzymatic activity was measured by a fluorometric assay kit. In addition, CF sputum and healthy sputum was added to PMNs isolated from healthy donors for 3.5 hours and NE was measured with immunofluorescence staining. The sputum was washed two times prior to measuring NE released and on the PMNs, and PBMCs was used as a control. RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: Our results indicate a clear inhibition of NE activity in CF sputum supernatant. C. showae ecotin showed the greatest inhibitory effect on NE activity in CF sputum supernatant. We also saw that CF sputum supernatant causing healthy PMNs to release more NE suggesting that NE in the CF airway may trigger more NE release from newly incoming PMNs to the lung. Our next steps will be to determine if ecotin can inhibit NE on the PMN surface and released from PMNs. DISCUSSION/SIGNIFICANCE: Neutrophil elastases are produced by PMNs to kill microbial pathogens in the lung, however in CF, the pathogens are unable to be killed by NE and instead causes severe lung damage. PMNs and NE has been shown to be elevated in the sputum of CF patients and there is currently no NE therapeutic inhibitor that has been effective in these patients.

Abstract:
Background We performed a systematic review of studies conducted in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) to assess the impact of oral diseases on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). Materials and methods Searches were performed of the following PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, Scopus, and LILACS databases. Randomized clinical trials, quasi-experimental studies, cohort studies, case and control studies, and cross-sectional studies which included at least 100 participants evaluating the impact of oral diseases on OHRQoL were included. PROSPERO registry number: CRD42020156098. Results After exclusion of duplicates, 3310 articles were identified, 40 of which were included in this review. 90% of the studies were conducted in Brazil. The most commonly used OHRQoL measuring instruments were CPQ 11–14 (n = 9), ECOHIS (n-8) and B-ECOHIS (n = 8). The study designs included 32 cross-sectional, 2 cohort and 6 case and control studies. Most of the studies were conducted in children (n = 25) and adolescents (n = 9). Most studies identified an impact on OHRQoL in children, adolescents and adults with oral diseases. Moreover, greater oral disease severity had a greater impact on OHRQoL. Conclusions Most studies in LAC report a negative impact of diseases on OHRQoL. More longitudinal studies are required to confirm the results of these studies.

Abstract:
The paper provides data on the use of the Malus sieboldii Rehd. as a genetic donor of economically valuable traits in breeding low-vigorous clonal apple rootstocks. The method of embryo culture is proposed as a way to increase the efficiency of distant crosses. The studies were carried out using seeds obtained in three combinations of crossing (M. sieboldii x Malysh Budagovskogo, M. sieboldii x 60-160, M. sieboldii x 76-3-6). As sterilizing agents when introduced into culture in vitro, we used industrial disinfectant «Belizna (Whiteness)», the sanitizer «Ecocid C» + «Belizna» and the sanitizer «BioPag C» + «Belizna». It was found that additional pretreatment with «Ecocid C» (1.0%) and "BioPag C" (0.4%) for 50 minutes before using the disinfectant «Belizna» contributes to the production of sterile explants up to 61.5% compared to the control. The best results were obtained when combine using «Ecocid C» (1.0%, 50 min.) and «Belizna» (50%, 5 min.). After 28 days, due to the low number of developing embryos, the method of dissection of a part of the cotyledons of hybrid seeds was used. As a result, up to 65.3% of hybrid plants were obtained, compared to 4.2% of the control.

Abstract:
Abstract Ixodids suck blood from host animals and transmit pathogens that cause important medical and veterinary diseases. As synthetic conventional acaricide resistance becomes increasingly common, alternative tactics are likely to enhance control efforts. Laboratory bioassays assessed the lethality of CimeXa, a commercial silica gel desiccant dust, and EcoVia, a commercial product containing silica gel + thyme oil, against lone star tick, Amblyomma americanum (L.), larvae and nymphs. Both life stages were completely killed by CimeXa by 24 h, and EcoVia achieved total larval mortality within 1 h when they were initially immersed in the dusts and when they crawled across treated substrate. Larvae were killed faster than nymphs. Temporary immersion of A. americanum larvae and nymphs in aqueous suspensions of the dusts were less effective than exposure to the dusts applied dry. Larval and nymphal mortality associated with crawling on dried aqueous suspensions of the products was also not as strong as when the immature life stages crawled across substrate treated with dry dusts, and EcoVia was not more efficient than CimeXa. CimeXa and EcoVia can likely be used to protect cattle in a prophylactic context because silica gel does not degrade, and EcoVia might be effective at eliminating ticks that are feeding on cattle as well. We suggest that the two dust products be assessed for efficacy against other ixodid species, such as the southern cattle fever tick, Rhipicephalus microplus (Canestrini), which transmits the causal agents of babesiosis to cattle.

Abstract:
Genetic polymorphisms could explain the inter-individual differences in the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of children with anterior open bite (AOB). Objective: To assess the impact of AOB on OHRQoL in children and to evaluate whether MTR (rs1805087), MTRR (rs1801394), TGFβ1 (rs1800469) and TNF-α (rs1799964, rs1799724 and rs1800629) genes are potential biomarkers for OHRQoL in children with AOB. Study design: A cross-sectional study was performed with 173 children aged between 2–6 years. The Brazilian version of Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (ECOHIS) was applied. Genetic polymorphisms were analyzed using real-time PCR. Mann-Whitney U-test and Chi-square were used. Results: The overall mean ECOHIS scores were 5.49 (SD= 5.72) and 3.45 (SD = 4.49) (p < 0.01) in the AOB and control groups, respectively. Children with the CC genotype of TNF-α (rs1799724) had a significantly higher psychological QoL level. The MTRR AA genotype group showed a lower QoL level in the child subscale (p = 0.006), function (p = 0.017), and psychological (p = 0.006) domains. There was no significant difference between OHRQoL and the genetic polymorphisms in MTR and TGFβ1. Conclusions: Genetic polymorphisms in TNF-α and MTRR are associated with the impact on the OHRQoL in children with AOB.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The aims of the study were to characterize enamel, dentine and cementum surface aspect after using non-fluoride remineralization toothpastes containing calcium carbonate and calcium glycerophosphate by SEM evaluation, to determine chemical composition of enamel, dentin and cement after remineralization products application by EDX assessment, and to compare the remineralization capacity of the tested products. Ten extracted teeth having no dental caries, erosive or wear lesions were selected for the study. The teeth were split bucco-lingually and mesio-distally in four pieces. A free window of enamel, dentine, and cementum (4X4 mm) in the cervical area of the slices was preserved. In control group the slices were subjected to a artificial caries lesion formation. In study groups EcoBio (President Company), Bio-natural (Dentissimo, Swiss Biodent), and Arthrodont Cassic (Pierre Fabre Oral Care) toothpastes were applied two times a day, for 3 minutes during caries lesion formation. The surface topography has been analyzed using a scanning electron microscope and the quantitative and qualitative chemical composition has been evaluated using an EDX detector. Interprismatic and intraprismatic mineral loss is clearly visible at higher magnification in enamel samples in control group. Some areas of demineralization are still present, and also small areas of extern deposits are visible on enamel, dentine and cementum samples in the groups were tested products were applied. All the tested toothpastes increased calcium and phosphorous ion concentrations in enamel, dentine and cementum. The highest remineralization effect was recorded in enamel by Dentissiomo, followed by Arthrodent and EcoBio toothpastes. In dentine and cementum the highest remineralization effect was registered by Arthrodent, followed by Dentissiomo and EcoBio toothpastes.

Abstract In the years 2008–2015, field experiments were conducted on the vines of cultivars ‘Solaris’ and ‘Regent’ grafted on SO4 rootstock. The following treatments: 1. control (untreated), 2. NPK (mineral fertilization 70 kg N·ha−1; 40 kg P·ha−1; 120 kg K·ha−1), 3. mycorrhizal substrate (AMF – Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi), 4. NPK + AMF, 5. manure (before planting), 6. NPK + manure (before planting), 7. Bioilsa, 8. NPK + Bioilsa, 9. BF-Ecomix, 10. NPK + BF-Ecomix, 11. Ausma and 12. NPK + Ausma were applied to evaluate the usefulness of biostimulants and mineral and organic fertilizers in organic grapevine production in “cool climate” conditions of Poland. The tests did not show a definite positive effect of the biostimulants and organic fertilizers on growth, yielding and healthiness of the cultivars ‘Solaris’ and ‘Regent’. There were no substantial differences in total marketable yield in the years 2009 to 2015 between control and other treatments. Grapevines planted in soil rich in minerals grew and yielded well despite no mineral fertilization for a number of years. In 2014, when the air humidity was high during vegetation, intensive rotting of the berries of cultivar ‘Solaris’, caused by Botrytis cinerea, was observed on plants fertilized with NPK.

Abstract:
Abstract Because fisheries operate within a complex array of species interactions, scientists increasingly recommend multispecies approaches to fisheries management. We created a food web model for the Baltic Sea proper, using the Ecopath with Ecosim software, to evaluate interactions between fisheries and the food web from 1974 to 2000. The model was based largely on values generated by multispecies virtual population analysis (MSVPA). Ecosim outputs closely reproduced MSVPA biomass estimates and catch data for sprat (Sprattus sprattus), herring (Clupea harengus), and cod (Gadus morhua), but only after making adjustments to cod recruitment, to vulnerability to predation of specific species, and to foraging times. Among the necessary adjustments were divergent trophic relationships between cod and clupeids: cod exhibited top-down control on sprat biomass, but had little influence on herring. Fishing, the chief source of mortality for cod and herring, and cod reproduction, as driven by oceanographic conditions as well as unexplained variability, were also key structuring forces. The model generated many hypotheses about relationships between key biota in the Baltic Sea food web and may ultimately provide a basis for estimating community responses to management actions.

Abstract:
The article’s authors argue that it is necessary to use adsorbents and antioxidant preparations in diets to level the negative factors of the impact of aflatoxin B1 on the processes of digestive metabolism and the productivity of young pigs when fattening on diets with a tolerant content of this mycotoxin. The research aimed to determine the effect of the preparation of Ecosil and vitamin C on the economic and biological characteristics of young pigs fed on diets with tolerant levels of aflatoxin B1. In the course of the study and based on experience, the authors found that the gilts of the 3rd experimental group had a higher growth intensity, which had an advantage over the animals of the control group in absolute and average daily gain by 10.5% (P<0.05) when enriched compound feed with a mixture of Ecosil and vitamin C. The authors managed to achieve in animals of the 3rd experimental group a reduction in costs per 1 kg of absolute gain - EFU (energy feed unit) by 9.45% and digestible Protein by 9.48% against control due to improved detoxification of the studied toxin. The coefficient of dry matter digestibility in gilts of this group was higher than in control by 3.1% (P><0.05); the organic matter was higher by 3.2% (P><0.05); crude Protein was higher by 3.2% (P><0.05); fiber is higher by 3.4% (P><0.05) and NFE (nitrogen-free extract) by 2.7% with a decrease in the digestibility of crude fat by 2.8% (P><0.05). The authors found that gilts of the 3rd experimental group, who consumed a mixture of tested feed additives per day in the accounting period of the study, deposited 24.86 g of nitrogen in the body, which is significantly (P><0.05) more than the control analogs - by 2.85 g. Abstract:
AbstractImidacloprid-treated spheres and several classes of insecticides were evaluated in field and laboratory experiments to determine their effects on Rhagoletis mendax Curran adult behavioural activity and larval infestation in highbush blueberries, Vaccinium corymbosum L. (Ericaceae). In field tests, three treatments representing an attract-and-kill system (imidacloprid-treated spheres) and two classes of insecticides, including a naturalyte spinosad (SpinTor 2 SC) and organophosphates (Imidan®/Malathion), were evaluated against an untreated control. Significantly more blueberry maggot puparia were collected from untreated (control) plots than from other treatments evaluated. There were no significant differences in larval infestation of berries collected from plots treated with imidacloprid-treated spheres, SpinTor 2 SC, and Imidan®/Malathion. Less than 1% of the berries collected from imidacloprid-treated sphere plots and SpinTor 2 SC treated plots contained blueberry maggot larvae. In toxicity and fruit-injury studies, SpinTor 2 SC as well as additional compounds from various classes were evaluated, including a botanical [azadiractin (Ecozin 3%)], a particle film [kaolin clay (SurroundTM WP)], and three neonicotinoids [imidacloprid (Provado 1.6 F), thiocloprid (Calypso 480 SC), and thiamethoxam (PlatinumTM 2 SC and ActaraTM 25 WG)]. SpinTor 2 SC exhibited a time lag (18 h) in reducing R. mendax activity. Ecozin 3% and SurroundTM WP were ineffective in suppressing R. mendax adult activity, but numbers of larvae in SurroundTM WP treated fruit were significantly reduced. The effectiveness of neonicotinoid insecticides varied initially but resulted in equivalent levels of mortality after 48 h compared with our conventional organophosphate treatment of Guthion 50 WP. Oviposition scars on Provado 1.6 F treated plots were significantly more numerous than on plots treated with SpinTor 2 SC, Calypso 480 SC, Actara 25 WG, and Guthion 50 WP.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Formalin and mercuric chloride-based low-viscosity polyvinyl alcohol (LV-PVA) are widely used by most diagnostic parasitology laboratories for preservation of helminth eggs and protozoan cysts and trophozoites in fecal specimens. Concerns about the toxicity of formalin and the difficulty of disposal of LV-PVA are powerful incentives to use alternate preservatives. Such alternatives have been marketed by several companies and are often presented as one-vial, non-mercuric chloride fixatives that aim at performing the same role as formalin and PVA combined. We compared five, one-vial commercial preservatives, two from Meridian Diagnostics, Inc. (Ecofix and sodium acetate-acetic acid-formalin), and one each from Scientific Device Laboratories, Inc. (Parasafe), Alpha Tec Systems, Inc. (Proto-fix), and Streck Laboratories, Inc. (STF), with 10% formalin and LV-PVA. Fecal specimens obtained from patients in a Brazilian hospital were aliquoted within 12 h of collection into the seven preservatives mentioned above and were processed after 1 month at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Direct and concentrated permanent smears as well as concentrates for 20 positive specimens (a total of 259 processed samples) were prepared, stained according to the manufacturers' instructions, examined, and graded. Positive specimens contained one or more parasites with stages consisting of eggs, larvae, cysts, and a few trophozoites of Giardia intestinalis. Criteria for assessment of the preservatives included the quality of the diagnostic characteristics of helminth eggs, protozoan cysts, and trophozoites, ease of use, and cost. Acceptable alternatives to formalin for wet preparations were found. Ecofix was found to be comparable to the traditional “gold standard” LV-PVA for the visualization of protozoa in permanent stained smears. This study suggests that more acceptable alternatives to the traditional formalin and LV-PVA exist.

Abstract:
In the early 1990s, Atlantic cod, a major component of the Newfoundland–Labrador ecosystem, suffered a stock collapse, and other groundfish stocks such as American plaice and yellowtail flounder seriously declined. This paper explores whether the relative effects of predation and fishing alone can account for these ecosystem changes. The Newfoundland–Labrador ecosystem was first modelled with a mass balance model for a time period in the mid-1980s when the groundfish biomass was relatively stable. This provided the starting point for simulations using a trophodynamic simulation model, Ecosim. A series of simulations were run, under different assumptions about energy control, to address the larger question "can the effects of fishing and predation account for the changes observed in the ecosystem?" The collapse and nonrecovery of cod was replicated, assuming top-down energy control. Other control assumptions were less successful. While groundfish stocks collapsed, seal populations and invertebrates such as shrimp and snow crab increased in abundance. The model predicted these increases, while a simulated increase in harp seals further repressed the recovery rate of cod. It was concluded that these results are consistent with the hypothesis that the collapse of cod was caused by excess fishing and that cod recovery is retarded by harp seals.

Abstract:
Seeds with a certain embryo shape have a variation in germination, some are more productive, others are not. This phenomenon has become the impetus for the systematization of seed groups by embryos. We have identified 8 groups (1a, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8), there are strong and weak seeds structured according to this hierarchy. One of the problems of vegetation and the formation of the desired crop is the impact of factors that are regulated. The seed material is heterogeneous and, therefore, its development is unpredictable. Seeds of any agricultural crop, no matter whether it is a variety or a hybrid, have external and internal properties and signs that affect the stability of their ontogenesis. The economic and biological qualities of seeds depend on the genetic characteristics of the variety obtained as a result of breeding. The external qualities of seeds characterize the properties of seeds, which are determined by the adaptive landscape component, agrotechnology of cultivation and the equipment used. Yield losses are difficult to control and it is important to reduce. The yield is affected not only by their initial biological potential, but also by the further mechanical impact of agricultural machinery from pre-sowing treatment to sowing. The purpose of the research is to assess the damage of the seed material by various mordants. The objectives of the research are the preliminary systematization of winter hard wheat grains by the germ morphotype, as well as further pre-sowing processing by various machines. The objects of the study are winter hard wheat grains and picklers PNSh-3, PKS-20, PS-10A, PNU-4, mixer-inlay «EcoMix-5». As a result of the research, the most productive varieties of winter hard wheat (Amazonka (8.32 t/ha) have been identified, Kristella (8.27 t/ha), Yantarina (8.07 t/ha), Yakhont (7.81 t/ha)) and the EcoMix-5 device with the least damage to seeds during their pre-sowing treatment.

Abstract:
We have previously reported that insulin-resistant Zucker obese rats exhibit hypertension associated with impaired vascular smooth muscle (VSM) Ca2+ transport and proposed that this results from failure of insulin to regulate VSM Ca2+ transport in insulin resistance. However, hypertension in insulin-resistant states is generally attributed to hyperinsulinemia, with a consequent stimulation of sympathetic neural activity. Accordingly, the present study was conducted to determine whether the hypertension observed in Zucker obese rats compared with their lean controls was dependent on either increased sympathetic neural activity or exaggerated vascular reactivity. Intra-arterial blood pressure responses to ganglionic blockade with Ecolid (chlorisondamine chloride) and to graded intravenous injections of angiotensin II and norepinephrine were compared in 6- to 8-wk-old male Zucker rats and their lean controls (n = 10/group). The obese rats exhibited significant hypertension before ganglionic blockade (P less than 0.001), and this difference was largely sustained during ganglionic blockade (P less than 0.005). Furthermore, the obese rats exhibited greater pressor sensitivity to both angiotensin II and to norepinephrine during ganglionic blockade (P less than 0.01). Thus enhanced pressor sensitivity, independent of sympathetic neural activity, appears to support hypertension in Zucker obese rats.

Abstract:
Abstract At present, plant biostimulating adaptogens used in the process of growing a wide range of cultivated plants are artificial analogs of natural stimulants, the chemical composition of which contains phytohormones, amino acids and a vitamin complex, which enhance the growth and development of the root system of plants by several times. The effectiveness of these agents is explained by the creation of a mutually beneficial symbiosis of the mycelium of mycorrhizal fungi and the root system of the plant, thereby providing the roots of the orchid with biologically active elements: mineral salts, enzymes, hormones and vitamins. Mycorrhizal fungi, in turn, receive carbohydrates necessary for their growth and development. Due to the fact that indoor plants contain a small amount of growth regulators in their chemical composition, their synthetic analogs are necessary for the productive growth and development of the orchid, which determines the relevance of the research carried out. The article presents the results of experiments on the effect of biostimulating adaptogens Ribav-extra, Ecopin and Epin-extra on the process of root formation of cuttings and morphological features in the studied species of dendrobium orchid. The studied plants were propagated in three ways: by dividing the bush, pseudobulbs and cuttings. The cuttings were soaked for 18 h before planting in drug solutions at a concentration of 1 ml/10 L of water. Also, vegetative plants were sprayed twice with biostimulants: in the phase of regrowth of the first leaf and two weeks later at a concentration of 0.5 ml/10 L of water. The results obtained showed differences in the experimental variants in terms of the onset of phenological phases: the beginning of the formation and regrowth of roots, leaves and peduncles, as well as the flowering period. The reaction of dendrobium to treatment with Ribav-extra, Ecopin and Epin-extra was revealed. In plants in all variants, the preparations used stimulated the development of the root system, leaf apparatus, and the appearance of peduncles. The phenophase data in the tested plants occurred 7-28 days earlier in comparison with the control variant (without the use of bioregulators). The treatment of the test plants with the growth regulator Ribav-extra promoted earlier regrowth of the first and second roots and leaves (by 20-28 days). Ekopin turned out to be the most passive and did not significantly affect the rate of development of the tested plants. The phenophases of regrowth of the 1st root and 1st leaf began 3-5 days earlier than the plants of the control variant. Ribav-extra and Epin-extra stimulated the appearance of peduncles in plants by the age of 3 years.

The aim of this study was to analyze the quality of water from different waterspouts, which is frequently consumed by urban population, without control and without supervision. The samples are from country towns of (I) Cabreúva, (II) Cajamar and (III) Jundiaí, respectively, all situated in São Paulo State, in Brazil. For this analysis, we used the Trad-MCN methods, with the Tradescantia pallida (Rose) DR Hunt var. purpurea Boom (Commelinaceae), to identify and quantify the presence of micronucleus and estimate the mutagenesis rate. The microbiological and physical-chemical analysis (turbidity, phosphate, pH, temperature, ammonium, and coliforms) are obtained by reagents for aquarium testing and Ecokit II Alfakit(R). Cabreúva's waterspout presented bigger mutagenic power when compared to others, and it was the only sample containing fecal coliforms. All the experimental samples presented the toxicity. We observed the big expression of the micronucleus when the T. pallida purpurea was incubated within the three samples. The coliforms values observed in the samples were above of those permitted by law. The authorities must better inspect the waters source and request the people not to consume the water from these places.

Abstract:
In the present study we developed a trophic model (ECOPATH with ECOSIM), to describe the structure and functioning of Bahía Magdalena estuarine ecosystem. The model, constituted by 24 functional groups, indicates that one third of the total ecosystem biomass is produced by secondary and tertiary trophic levels. The magnitude of total flows in the system and the transfer efficiency among trophic levels, are similar to those observed in other tropical systems around the world. A large proportion of the total flows are directed to the maintenance of the trophic web structure. The value of the connectance index (CI) was 0.2, meaning that there is only 20% of realized connections within the web. Benthic primary producers contribute with 53% of the total ascendency. We believe that the energy control in this particular ecosystem is top-down type (through the main predators), suggesting that high-trophic level species negatively affect other groups in the system. This trophic model can be used for exploring different hypothesis concerning the biotic and abiotic mechanisms that modify the structure and functioning of the Bahía Magdalena ecosystem, with the ultimate goal of understanding how this attributes determine the resilience of marine communities.

Abstract:
Infectious bronchitis (IB) of chickens is a highly contagious disease characterized by damage of the respiratory system and reproductive organs in young animals caused by a virus of the genus Gamma coronavirus. The condition of the respiratory system caused by the IB virus in chickens has many similarities with the pathology of the respiratory system caused by SARS-CoV-2 in humans. The effectiveness of virucidal drugs (Argovit, Triviron, Ecocid, and lauric acid monoglyceride) was tested on chickens inoculated with a tenfold dose of a vaccine strain based on the attenuated virus H120 against IB of chickens. On the 6th day after inoculation, inflammatory changes in the intestines, lungs, and thymus were observed in the control group. The experimental groups were characterized by less pronounced inflammatory reactions and a lower proportion of thymus and lung probes containing genomic IB virus RNA. Since the virucidal activity of four orally administrated formulations was possible only in the intestine, the experimental data indirectly confirmed the hypothesis of the possibility of the predominant accumulation of coronaviruses in the intestine and subsequent lung damage due to the hematogenous redistribution of viral particles and IBV antigens. It was suggested that other coronaviruses including SARS-CoV-2 can implement a similar mechanism.

Abstract:
An Ecopath with Ecosim (EwE) modeling approach was used to explore the ecological structure of the largest lake in Greece (Lake Trichonis). Until the mid-1990s, the lake was receiving a high level of pollution and the fishing pressure was intense, while since the early 2000s, fisheries and other human pressures gradually declined. Nowadays, the lake’s fisheries mainly target Atherina boyeri due to the absence of market demand for the other fish species in the lake, resulting in a low overall fisheries pressure on the fish stocks. The model was built with data collected through: (a) field samplings, (b) in-depth targeted interviews of professional fishermen and (c) historical archive information. The model considered 22 functional groups, while fishing activities were represented by three classes according to the used gears. The outputs of the model revealed that the ecosystem is dominated by low trophic level species (also identified as keystone species), indicating the significance of bottom-up control in the regulation of food web processes. Ecological indicators depicted that the lake’s ecosystem is mature and resilient to external disturbances. The methodological approach used in this study was shown to be helpful for studies addressing ecosystem structure, in particular with limited data availability.

Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Infantis is the most prevalent serovar in broilers and broiler meat in the European Union. The aim of our study was to test the biofilm formation and antimicrobial effect of disinfectants on genetically characterized S. Infantis isolates from poultry, food, and humans. For the biofilm formation under various temperature conditions (8 °C, 20 °C, and 28 °C) and incubation times (72 h and 168 h), the crystal violet staining method was used. The evaluation of the in vitro antimicrobial effect of Ecocid® S, ethanol, and hydrogen peroxide was determined using the broth microdilution method. The antibiofilm effect of subinhibitory concentration (1/8 MIC) of disinfectants was then tested on S. Infantis 323/19 strain that had the highest biofilm formation potential. Our results showed that the biofilm formation was strain-specific; however, it was higher at 20 °C and prolonged incubation time. Moreover, strains carrying a pESI plasmid showed higher biofilm formation potential. The antibiofilm potential of disinfectants on S. Infantis 323/19 strain at 20 °C was effective after a shorter incubation time. As shown in our study, more effective precautionary measures should be implemented to ensure biofilm prevention and removal in order to control the S. Infantis occurrence.

On the example of LLC "Agroindustrial Complex "Promagro", a list of biological preparations used in the Belgorod region to reduce unpleasant odors from manure effluents has been compiled. In this work, measurements of the content of harmful substances and the level of odors in pig fattening workshops and on the emission of ventilation shafts of pig-breeding complex buildings were carried out: concentrations of carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen oxide (NO2), sulfur oxide (SO2), methane (CH4), hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and ammonia (NH3), as well as the level of odors in the territories adjacent to the pig complex. The calculation of the dispersion of emissions of harmful and odorous substances in the territories (GOST R 58578-2019 Rules for the establishment of standards and control of emissions into the atmosphere) showed the need to introduce odor destructors into the manure intake baths. In the Belgorod region, the following biological destructors are used at various pig breeding complexes: "Embionic" "Bactofor-3", "Sanvit-K", "Sanvit-K-forte", "Doctor Robik LGN 050", "UBP Bius", "Ecomik Pro V". Abstract:
For successful denitrification in the body of dairy cattle in zootechnical practice are widely used feed additives with adsorption and antioxidant properties, which, linking nitrates and nitrites in the digestive system, are able to effectively eliminate these toxic compounds in the body. The aim of the research was to study the effect of the adsorbent ekosil and the antioxidant Hadox on the digestibility and digestibility of the nutrients of the diet of lactating cows with a subtoxic dose of nitrates in feed. This article presents the results of studies showing that to increase the milk productivity of dairy cows in diets with a subtoxic dose of nitrates, it is advisable to include ecoosil adsorbent in a dose of 4 kg / ton of feed and an antioxidant Hadox dose of 125 g / ton of feed. It was established that joint approved drugs contributed to the intensification of the processes of digestive metabolism by optimizing the denitrification reaction. This resulted in a significant (P <0.05) increase in dairy cattle 3 of the experimental group versus a control group of dry matter digestibility by 3.28, organic matter by 3.22 %, crude protein by 3.52 %, crude fiber - by 3.07 % and BEV - by 3.25 %. Due to better denitrification under the joint effect of Ecosil and Hadox preparations in animals 3 of the experimental group, the digestibility of raw protein in the ration was optimized, which, against the control group, showed a significant (P <0.05) increase in the amount of nitrogen excreted in milk by 9.34 % and daily the deposition of this element in the body - by 51.43 %. Due to the synergism of the action of the adsorbent and antioxidant in milk of dairy cattle 3 of the experimental group, during the day, there was a significant (P <0.05) more calcium and phosphorus or it was postponed during the same time in the body more of these macronutrients than in the control.

The article presents the results of the biotechnological study of aquatic environments with molecular hydrogen by antioxidant activity. Molecular hydrogen has selective antioxidant activity against dangerous free radicals. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, anti-allergic effects and stimulates energy metabolism. The problem is urgent nowadays because of the great interest to molecular hydrogen as an antioxidant over the past ten years, but its quantitative metabolic parameters have not been estimated yet. The total antioxidant activity of aquatic systems saturated by hydrogen have been studied using coulometric analysis. It was shown that their antioxidant activity of aquatic systems increase of 8-10 times depending on the operating conditions and time of the "H2 Inhaler" device and 3 times when using a mineral generator active Hydrogen "Aquaspectr Mineral". The effect of molecular hydrogen have been studied by changing the antioxidant status of the human body, which was determined by changing the total antioxidant activity of urine and oral fluid during inhalation of hydrogen and oral administration of hydrogen-saturated water. The synergistic effects has been revealed in determining the total antioxidant activity of the oral fluid in the range from 14.02 to 17.59% rel. and synergism/antagonism of urine in the range from 37.17 to 27.62% rel., compared with control measurements. The total antioxidant activity was determined using electro-generated bromine, the samples were analyzed on an Expert-006 coulometer (Econix-Expert LLC, Russia) according to our certified method.

Abstract:
Abstract We have monitored the behaviour of different polyethylene foils including virgin medium density polyethylene (MDPE), MDPE containing pro-oxydative additives (238, 242) and MDPE with pro-oxydative additives and thermoplastic starch (297) in the soil for a period of one year. A foil based on a blend of polyester and polylactic acid (BASF Ecovio) served as degradable control. The experiment was carried out by weekly measurements of conductivity and capacity of the soil, since the setup was analogous to a condenser, of which the insulating layer was the foil itself. The twelve replications allowed monthly sampling; the specimen taken out from the soil each month were tested visually for thickness, mechanical properties, morphological and structural changes, and molecular mass. Based on the obtained capacity values, we found that among the polyethylene foils, the one that contained thermoplastic starch extenuated the most. This foil had the greatest decrease in tensile strength and elongation at break due to the presence of thermoplastic starch. The starch can completely degrade in the soil; thus, the foil had cracks and pores. The polyethylene foils that contained pro-oxydant additives showed smaller external change compared to the virgin foil, since there was no available UV radiation and oxygen for their degradation. The smallest change occurred in the virgin polyethylene foil. Among the five examined samples, the commercially available BASF foil showed the largest extenuation and external change, and it deteriorated the most in the soil.

Abstract:
A huge part of the milking equipment and milk dishes are made of stainless steel and aluminum. Under certain conditions, the influence of such factors as the atmosphere, water, milk, and chemical agents leads to the destruction of metal working surfaces of the milking equipment, resulting in a shorter period of their exploitation. On damaged sites the milk remains are left, that is actually a good nutrient medium, resulting in the creation of conditions for the active development of the microflora. As a result, the following process leads to a marked reduction in disinfectant effect when sanitized. The object of this work was to investigate the influence of various concentrations of orthophosphate acid in an acid detergent disinfectant on the elements of the milking equipment made of stainless steel and aluminum. Accordingly, the result of the conducted research showed that the orthophosphate acid of all four experimental concentrations (20, 25, 30, 35%) in the acid detergent showed a slight destructive effect on stainless steel and was within the standard of corrosion value up to 2 g/m2/year. The increase in the concentration of orthophosphate acid caused a growth in the amount of destruction of stainless steel, which was the highest in the concentration of 35% and amounted to 0.326 g/m2/year. The rate of destruction of stainless steel was in the range from 0.895 ± 0.0036 to 1.712 ± 0.0031 mg/m2/hour and was significantly lower than the norm, which is up to 6.0 mg/m2-year. The magnitude of the destructive action of 20, 25, 30, 35% of the concentration of orthophosphoric acid in an acid mist and disinfectant on the plates of aluminum was higher than the norm, respectively, at 2.42, 2.88, 3.09 and 3.60 times, and the rate of destruction – respectively, at 2.17, 2.63, 2.82 and 3.28 times. Therefore, the addition of a nitric acid ammonium inhibitor in the experimental variants of acidic detergent disinfectant resulted in a decrease in the magnitude of the destruction of aluminum. The results were higher than the norm but were significantly lower (P ≤ 0.05) compared to control, which used «Ecocid», an acid concentration of 30%.

VARIOUS ENVIRONMENTAL AND BEHAVIOR FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE THE FILARIASIS EVENT ABSTRACT Filariasis is a disease that is still a health problem in Indonesia. South Pekalongan District is one of the endemic areas of filariasis. By the year 2014 - 2016, it was found about 71 cases of filariasis. This is caused by many factors in the environment, such as swamp and pool that was flooded with water with many water plants. Other factor, that caused by are sosio economic and community behavior. The objective of this study was to determine physical factors (swamp / pool), Biological (water plants, fish / animal predators) of the environment. Socio ecomic factor (education, job and income), behaviour factor the habitat of (going outside at night, habit of using mosquito repellent and wearing clothes to protect from mosquitoes bite) that may give influence the filariasis cases in South Pekalongan District. This research was an observasional research with a case-control approach. Case in this study was filariasis cases and for control was people suffer from filariasis. Total sampler were 80 sample. Data was taken by observation and interview. Data collected was analyzed by using logistics regression. Multivariate analysis showed that from 11 variables, there are 1 variable were proved to be the risk factor of filariasis at South Pekalongan District, which are : respondent, habit of using mosquito repellent (OR = 35,286, CI 95% = 7,390 – 168,476). The use of mosquito repellent is the most dominant risk factor for filariasis transmission. It is suggested that people sould use mosquito net or repellent when bed time, self protection dress when they go out at night. It is necessary to perform health promotion and extend the information related to filariasis in order to improve people knowledge . Keyword : Filariasis, Environmental, Behavioral.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper presents the most recent and detailed Holocene palynological research carried out on the Congolese Atlantic littoral, in the region of Pointe-Noire, as part of the ECOFIT program (CNRS-IRD). The results are obtained on two continental sedimentary sequences (core S2 from Songolo site: 4 degrees 45'51"S, 11 degrees 51'55"E, alt. 5 m and core 2 from Coraf site: 4 degrees 45'S, 11 degrees 51'E, alt. 1 m). Pollen data and interpretation are completed on the Songolo sequence by mineralogical (quartz, kaolinite, TOM) and isotopic (delta 13 C on organic matter) analysis allowing a continuous reconstruction of the Congolese littoral palaeoenvironments from 7000 yr. cal B.P. onwards. The Congolese coastal plain is today a mosaic of forest-grassland. Sandy open short savanna largely occurs with as dominant grass Loudetia arundinacea. Locally, Symphonia globulifera swamp forests are present along rivers and in flooded areas. Mangrove with Rhizophora is not well developed except along the Kouilou estuarine. The climate is characterized by mean annual precipitation not exceeding 1300 mm and temperature ranging between 22 and 25 degrees C. The core S2 from Songolo site was extracted using a piston corer. The coring site is today a peat building swamp with abundant Cyperus papyrus. The local dominant trees are Raphia and Alstonia. The presence of Elaeis guineensis (oil palm) and Mangifera indica (mango) testifies of a recent human occupation of this area. The core Coraf 2 was collected on the beach by manual penetration of PVC tube. On the two studied cores, dating control is provided by thirteen 14 C conventional and AMS dates performed on total organic matter. The ages are reported with equivalent ranges in calendar years. The present pollen, mineralogical and isotopic records, completed by previous other data (mainly macroflora remains), give new informations on vegetation and hydrological changes at local and regional scale since 7000 yr. cal B.P. on the Congolese littoral, in relation to climatic and sea level changes. The main conclusions can be summarized as follows. During the middle Holocene (7000-3000 yr. cal B.P.), expansion of swamp dense forests with Pandanus, Anthostema, Hallea, Symphonia globulifera, Syzygium, and also of mangrove (Rhizophora), as testified by pollen analysis, gives evidence of high rainfall which is also supported at Songolo by the abundance of kaolinite and quartz, an increase in the amorphous silica and delta 13 C low values typical of C 3 biomasse until 3000 yr. cal. B.P. At the same time, the occurrence in macroflora remains of trees such as Saccoglottis gabonensis, Ongokea gore and several species of Monopetalanthus that are found today in the Mont de Cristal forest in Gabon, under 2000-2500 mm of annual rainfall, confirms this climatic interpretation. A major change is registered ca. 3000 yr. cal B.P., characterized by the regression of the swamp forests which are replaced by herbaceous formations dominated by Cyperaceae and ferns, the disappearance of mangrove near the Songolo site, an important decrease in mineral influx (quartz and kaolinite) and increase in organic matter content. Increase in delta 13 C values during this period shows that most of the organic fraction derives from C 4 plants, probably linked to local expansion of Cyperus papyrus. This change, well known at this time on several sites from Central Atlantic Africa, is mainly linked to a progressive regional deterioration of climate towards aridity. On the Songolo site, the presence of fresh water taxa such as Nymphaea lotus supports an absence of marine water influence, indicating a sea level regressive episode well known, at the same time, along the West African coast. During the most recent period, despite more favourable climatic conditions (rainfall), no re-extension of littoral swamp forests is detected. These results are mainly related to the location of the studied sites, in an area of particularly intense human impact as shown by the occurrence of Elaeis guineensis (oil palm) in macroflora remains recovered from numerous archeological sites. The multidisciplinary data presented here correlate well with previous records from Central Atlantic Africa (Congo and Cameroon). The general similarity of the registered changes during the last 7000 yr cal B.P. strongly supports a regional climatic interpretation.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTHIV causes neurodegeneration and dementia in AIDS patients, but its function in milder cognitive impairments in virologically suppressed patients on antiretroviral therapy is unknown. Such patients are immunocompetent, have low peripheral and brain HIV burdens, and show minimal brain neuropathology. Using the model of HIV-related memory impairment in EcoHIV-infected conventional mice, we investigated the neurobiological and cognitive consequences of efficient EcoHIV expression in the mouse brain after intracerebral infection. HIV integrated and persisted in an expressed state in brain tissue, was detectable in brain monocytic cells, and caused neuroinflammatory responses and lasting spatial, working, and associative memory impairment. Systemic antiretroviral treatment prevented direct brain infection and memory dysfunction indicating the requirement for HIV expression in the brain for disease. Similarly inoculated murine leukemia virus used as a control replicated in mouse brain but not in monocytic cells and was cognitively benign, linking the disease to HIV-specific functions. Memory impairment correlated in real time with hippocampal dysfunction shown by defective long-term potentiation in hippocampal slicesex vivoand with diffuse synaptodendritic injury in the hippocampus reflected in significant reduction in microtubule-associated protein 2 and synapsin II staining. In contrast, there was no evidence of overt neuronal loss in this region as determined by neuron-specific nuclear protein quantification, TUNEL assay, and histological observations. Our results reveal a novel capacity of HIV to induce neuronal dysfunction and memory impairment independent of neurotoxicity, distinct from the neurotoxicity of HIV infection in dementia.IMPORTANCEHIV neuropathogenesis has been attributed in large measure to neurotoxicity of viral proteins and inflammatory factors produced by infected monocytic cells in the brain. We show here that HIV expression in mouse brain causes lasting memory impairment by a mechanism involving injury to hippocampal synaptodendritic arbors and neuronal function but not overt neuronal loss in the region. Our results mirror the observation of minimal neurodegeneration in cognitively impaired HIV patients on antiretroviral therapy and demonstrate that HIV is nonneurotoxic in certain brain abnormalities that it causes. If neurons comprising the cognition-related networks survive HIV insult, at least for some time, there is a window of opportunity for disease treatment.

Abstract:
Abstract Background Few studies have investigated oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in young individuals with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). Aims were to investigate whether OHRQoL differs between children and adolescents with JIA compared to controls without JIA, while adjusting for socio-demographic-, behavioral- and oral health-related covariates. Furthermore, to explore whether socio-behavioral and oral health-related covariates of OHRQoL vary according to group affiliation and finally, specifically for individuals with JIA, to investigate whether disease-specific features associate with OHRQoL. We hypothesized that participants with JIA have poorer OHRQoL compared to participants without JIA. Methods In this comparative cross-sectional study participants with JIA (n = 224) were matched to controls without JIA (n = 224). OHRQoL was assessed according to Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (ECOHIS) (4–11-years-olds) and the child version of Oral Impacts on Daily Performances (Child-OIDP) (12–16-years-olds). JIA-specific characteristics were assessed by pediatric rheumatologists and socio-demographic, behavioral and self-reported oral health information collected by questionnaires. Index teeth were examined for caries by calibrated dentists. Multiple variable analyses were performed using logistic regression, reporting odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). Two-way interactions were tested between group affiliation and the socio-behavioral- and oral health-related variables on the respective outcome variables. Results In total, 96 participants with JIA and 98 controls were evaluated according to ECOHIS, corresponding numbers for Child-OIDP was 125 and 124. Group affiliation was not associated with impaired ECOHIS or Child-OIDP in adjusted analyses (OR = 1.95, 95% CI 0.94–4.04 and OR = 0.99, 95% CI 0.46–2.17, respectively). Female adolescents with JIA were more likely than males to report oral impacts according to Child-OIDP. Continued activity or flare was found to adversely affect Child-OIDP, also self-reported outcome measures in JIA associated with Child-OIDP. Conclusions This study did not provide consistent evidence to confirm the hypothesis that children and adolescents with JIA are more likely to have impaired OHRQoL compared to their peers without JIA. However, female adolescents with JIA were more likely than males to report impacts on OHRQoL. Furthermore, within the JIA group, adolescents with continued disease activity, flare or reporting pain, physical disability, had higher risk than their counterparts of impaired OHRQoL.

Abstract:
Abstract The horn fly, Haematobia irritans irritans (L.) (Diptera: Muscidae), is an important bloodsucking ectoparasite of cattle throughout much of the world. The fly is mostly controlled using conventional synthetic insecticides but as concerns about resistance increase, alternative tactics have come under heightened scrutiny. Four desiccant dust products: Surround WP, a kaolin clay-based wettable powder; CimeXa, comprised of silica aerogel; Drione, silica aerogel + pyrethrins; and EcoVia, silica aerogel + thyme oil, were assessed for their lethal effects against horn fly eggs, larvae, pupae, and adults, under laboratory conditions. Although Surround WP and CimeXa did not prevent egg hatching and (when mixed with manure substrate) pupal development, the two products were associated with moderate reductions of emerged adults, and with complete adult contact mortality within 6 hr and 24 hr, respectively. Drione and EcoVia eliminated egg hatching, pupal development, and adults within 15 min to 1 hr, respectively, whether the flies were exposed to treated filter paper substrate or exposed by immersion in the dusts. Implications for horn fly control and advantages of inert desiccant dust formulations are discussed.
