Abstract:
AbstractHard X-ray light curves and spectral parameters from our analysis of X-ray data of five AM Her type systems – V2301 Oph, V1432 Aql, EP Draconis, GG Leonis, & V834 Cen, and one intermediate polar – TV Col, observed using the Rossi X — ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) satellite are presented. A new improved ephemeris has been derived for V2301 Oph using the mid-eclipse timings. Average intensity variations, without any change of shape of the light curve or hardness ratio, are observed on timescales of a few days to a few months in V2301 Oph. V1432 Aql shows erratic variations on a timescale of a day, at least two sharp dips near orbital phases 0.35 and 0.5, and a total eclipse. Hard X-ray eclipses are also reported in EP Dra and GG Leo. V834 Cen shows intensity variations on yearly timescale and is found to be in a low state in 2002. In TV Col, a binary orbital modulation at 5.5h, in addition to the spin period of 1910s, is reported for the first time. Maximum spectral temperatures in Polars have been determined and used to estimate the masses of the white dwarfs.

Abstract:
A wide range of imported ornamental sunflower seeds have been marketed in Indonesia. A field evaluation was conducted on seven sunflower cultivars to investigate their germination, growth and development in humid tropical environment in Bogor, West Java, Indonesia and to determine their potential uses. Most of the tested cultivars, except for ‘Sungold Double’ and ‘Velvet Queen’, demonstrated good germination and growth. ‘Eclipse’ was highly susceptible to stem rot, which resulted in only 30% of the plants survived. ‘Little Leo’, ‘Teddy Bear’ and ‘Sungold Double’ were naturally compact, dwarf, and produced attractive blooms so they might be suitable as pot plants. ‘Hallo’, ‘Velvet Queen’, ‘Sunburst’, and ‘Eclipse’s plant height were more than 100 cm, had long stem and large blooms. These cultivars might be suitable as landscape plants. Keywords: morphological characteristics, West Java, pot plants

Abstract:
Purpose This study aims to predict the types of thermally induced dynamics (TID) that can occur on deployable solar panels of a small form factor satellite, CubeSat which flies in low Earth orbit (LEO). The TID effect on the CubeSat body is examined. Design/methodology/approach A 3U CubeSat with four short-edge deployable solar panels is considered. Time historic temperature of the solar panels throughout the orbit is obtained using a thermal analysis software. The results are used in numerical simulation to find the structural response of the solar panel. Subsequently, the effect of solar panel motion on pointing the direction of the satellite is examined using inertia relief method. Findings The thermal snap motion could occur during eclipse transitions due to rapid temperature changes in solar panels’ cross-sections. In the case of asymmetric solar panel configuration, noticeable displacement in the pointing direction can be observed during the eclipse transitions. Research limitations/implications This work only examines an LEO mission where the solar cells of the solar panels point to the Sun throughout the daylight period and point to the Earth while in shadow. Simplification is made to the CubeSat structure and some parameters in the space environment. Practical implications The results from this work reveal several practical applications worthy of simplifying the study of TID on satellite appendages. Originality/value This work presents a computational method that fully uses finite element software to analyze TID phenomenon that can occur in LEO on a CubeSat which has commonly used deployable solar panels structure.

Abstract:
AbstractBackground and purpose: This study examined the effect of varying the X–Y smoothing values on the average Leaf Pair Opening (LPO), MUFactor and total number of monitor units (MU) in a cohort of 20 prostate and head and neck (H&N) patients treated with dynamic intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT).Material and methods: Plans were created using Varian Eclipse™ Treatment Planning System (TPS) version 8.9.09 (Varian Medical Systems, Palo Alto, CA). Clinically approved and dosimetrically verified plans were used as a reference plans. These were re-optimised varying the X and Y smoothing parameters from 0 to 100 in various combinations.Results: For the prostate patients, at X = 0 and Y = 0, the average LPO was 2.4 cm (σ = 0.20 cm) and 3.5 cm (σ = 0.35 cm) for X = 100 and Y = 100. For H&N, the LPO averaged over all fields increased from 1.7 cm (σ = 0.17 cm) at X = 0 and Y = 0 to 2.3 cm (σ = 0.27 cm) at X = 100 and Y = 90. The MUFactor decreased from 1.81 (σ = 0.19) at X = 0 and Y = 0 to 1.38 (σ = 0.11) at X = 100 and Y = 100 for prostates and from 1.50 (σ = 0.14) at X = 0 and Y = 0 to 1.24 (σ = 0.09) for X = 100 and Y = 90 for H&N. Total MU for prostates decreased from 1028.0 (σ = 244.6) at X = 0 and Y = 0 to 688.4 (σ = 159.3) at X = 100 and Y = 100 and from 913 (σ = 267.2) at X = 0 and Y = 0 to 696 (σ = 214.03) at X = 100 and Y = 90 for H&N.Conclusions: Increasing smoothing decreases MUFactor, decreases total MU and increases average LPO but does not greatly enhance organs at risk (OAR) sparing. The Homogeneity Index (HI) and Paddick Conformity Index (CIPAD) appear to vary little after increasing smoothing up to approximately X = 80 and Y = 70.

Abstract:
AbstractMultiwavelength observations of polars are essential for developing the big picture of these systems, particularly to gain understanding of the relevant accretion-induced heating and cooling processes. Eclipsing polars are prime targets for such studies since different radiation processes can be disentangled by observations with high-time resolution. We present a preliminary combined analysis of space-based observations (XMM-Newton, ROSAT, HST) with ground-based high-speed photometry (MCCP, OPTIMA, ULTRACAM) of DP Leo, HU Aqr and UZ For. We determine the location and extent of different emission components and find secular and short-term changes in the accretion geometries. We find displaced optical and X-ray emission regions in DP Leo and HU Aqr as well as mini-bursts and accretion arcs of variable size in HU Aqr. We report marked changes in the X-ray eclipse length of UZ For between high and low states.

Abstract:
The philosophic correspondence between Leo Strauss and Eric Voegelin, stretching over thirty years, sheds some helpful light on each of the thinkers’ philosophic positions. To be sure, only a few of the letters seem truly significant, and it would of course be a mistake to allow the rather informal and ad hoc remarks in any of the letters to eclipse either theorist's considered and matured published reflections. Moreover, the correspondence peters out in the mid-fifties, after which each thinker arguably made important modifications in his respective outlook. But the letters, or at least the most significant, do not seem careless; the principal issues addressed go to the very heart of things; and if the letters are interpreted with careful attention to the contemporary published, as well as some unpublished, writings, then, it seems to me, the engagement between the two theorists does indeed clarify some of the more obscure but weighty premises and implications of the two philosophic positions.

Abstract:
In this paper, we introduce a computational procedure that enables autonomous LEO laser trackers endowed with INSs to increase the current accuracy when shooting at middle distant medium-size LEO debris targets. The code is designed for the trackers to throw the targets into the atmosphere by means of ablations. In case that the targets are eclipsed to the trackers by the Earth, the motions of the trackers and targets are modeled by equations that contain post-Newtonian terms accounting for the curvature of space. Otherwise, when the approaching targets become visible for the trackers, we additionally use more accurate equations, which allow to account for the local bending of the laser beams aimed at the targets. We observe that under certain circumstances the correct shooting configurations that allow to safely and efficiently shoot down the targets, differ from the current estimations by distances that may be larger than the size of many targets. In short, this procedure enables to estimate the optimal shooting instants for any middle distant medium-size LEO debris target.

Abstract:
AbstractTime-resolved photometry and spectroscopy of cataclysmic variables (CV) are powerful tools for clarifying the physical size, placement, and conditions of emission regions in these compact systems. We present HST time resolved UV spectroscopic data for one self-eclipsing mCV system, ST LMi, and two secondary eclipsing systems, DP Leo and UZ For. These observations clearly show the relative contributions of three emission components: the white dwarf, a hotter region surrounding the accretion shock, and the photoionized accretion stream. UZ For was observed in an unusually active state by both HST and EUVE. These data provide strong evidence that the accretion stream is “clumpy”, with overdensities 100–1000 times the average density. Using photoionization codes such as XSTAR and CLOUDY, we find that steady, supersonic, and homogenous flow in the UZ For accretion stream is unstable to compression heating. As a consequence, we propose a two-phase model for the stream and obtain density enhancements comparable to those deduced from the strengths of the UV emission lines and EUVE absorption features. Similar behavior may be expected from active, asynchronous magnetic CVs with coupling radii greater than several white dwarf radii.

Abstract:
AbstractUp to now, more than 500 extra-solar planets have been discovered. Many of these extrasolar systems consist of one star and only one giant planet. However, recently more and more different types of systems have become known, including also extrasolar planets in binaries. In our study, we will concentrate on such systems, since a large percentage of all G-M stars are expected to be part of binary or multiple stellar systems. Therefore, these kinds of systems are worthy of investigation in detail. In particular, we will concentrate on planets in P-Type motion, where the planet orbits around both stars. During the last few years, four such systems (NN Ser, HW Vir, HU Aqr and DP Leo) have been discovered. In our study, we performed dynamical studies for three multi-planetary systems in binaries (NN Ser, HW Vir, HU Aqr), and compared simulated eclipse timing variations (ETV) to current observational data.

Abstract:
Objective: The present study focuses on the antioxidant mediated protective effect of a popular medicinal herbEcliptaalba against CCl4induced oxidative stress in the liver of rats. Methods: Rats divided into four groups were administered with CCl4 andCCl4 along with methanol extract of leaves of Eclipta herb (200 and 400 mg/kg b. wt) for three weeks. At the end of treatment, rats were anaesthetized and blood samples were collected for serum separation. Biochemical analysis such as alanineaminotransferase (ALT), aspartateaminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and total bilirubin (TB) were done in serum. Liver tissue was used for glutathione (GSH), lipid peroxidation (LPO), gluatathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione Stransferase (GST), superoxide dismutase (SOD)and catalase (CAT) analysis. CCl4 administration caused significant elevation of the serum enzymes and total bilirubin content. Results: Antioxidant enzymes were drastically inhibited with significant reduction of glutathione and increased lipid peroxidation in CCl4 treated rats. Ecliptaalbaextracts administrated rats, however did not show much changes in marker enzyme level. Antioxidant enzyme status was also not affected and found nearer to the control levels. Increased gluatathione level and reduced lipid peroxidation was also evident in Eclipta alba treated rats. Conclusion: The findings show that Eclipta alba extract offers better protection against the free radical toxicity of CCl4.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, when exposed to the sun, use solar energy for operation, processing, and communication, and with excess energy they charge their batteries. However, when satellites are in an area with no sunlight, called eclipse areas, they operate using only their battery power. The batteries have limitations on the amount of recharges/discharges, also known as the depth of discharge (DOD) cycle. Therefore, this restricts the useful life of the batteries themselves and also of the satellites. In this paper, we propose two different efficient routing methods for LEO satellite networks, which optimize traffic in order to reduce the DOD of satellites. We improved the Energy and Capacity Aware Routing (ECARS) metric, existing in the literature, by adding the Energy Routing prUning ( DOD and Energy Routing penAlty ( DOD methods. These proposed methods prune and penalize, respectively, the links whose satellites have reached a certain minimum battery charge threshold. With this procedure, we avoid over discharging the satellites’ battery, and thus, the lifetime is extended.Simulations results show that ERU DOD and ERA DOD can increase the satellites’ batteries lifetime by more than 54% and 10%, respectively. Moreover, the average residual energy obtained when comparing our ERU DOD and ERA DOD proposals with the ECARS proposal, resulted in gains greater than 113% and 29%, respectively.

Abstract:
Based on the 14-year photometric CCD monitoring of the contact eclipsing variable star AM Leo of type W UMa carried out author from 2007 to 2020 at the telescopes of the Kourovka observatory UrFU, the presence cyclic variations in brightness of the system with a period of 7.6±0.6 years, not associated with the phenomena of eclipses and tidal deformations of the components, as well as low-amplitude cyclic variations of the orbital period with the same value of the oscillation period, were found. It was concluded that the low-amplitule variations of the brightness and period of the system are due to the cyclic changes of the magnetic field of the components of the AM Leo, which manifests itself in a change in the average surface temperature of the overall system shell due to changes in the area of cold or hot spots on the surface of the components, as well as the influence of the Applegate effect on the system period.
