Abstract:

A novel, strictly anaerobic, hydrogenotrophic methanogen, strain E09F.3T, was isolated from a commercial biogas plant in Germany. Cells of E09F.3T were Gram-stain-negative, non-motile, slightly curved rods, long chains of which formed large aggregates consisting of intertwined bundles of chains. Cells utilized H2+CO2 and, to a lesser extent, formate as substrates for growth and methanogenesis. The optimal growth temperature was around 40 °C; maximum growth rate was obtained at pH around 7.0 with approximately 6.8 mM NaCl. The DNA G+C content of strain E09F.3T was 39.1 mol%. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA and mcrA gene sequences placed strain E09F.3T within the genus Methanobacterium. On the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity, strain E09F.3T was closely related to Methanobacterium congolense CT but morphological, physiological and genomic characteristics indicated that strain E09F.3T represents a novel species. The name Methanobacterium aggregans sp. nov. is proposed for this novel species, with strain E09F.3T ( = DSM 29428T = JCM 30569T) as the type strain.

Abstract:

Optical absorption and photoluminescence (PL) spectra were measured on defect-stannite-type semiconductor ZnGa2Se4 at temperatures T from 11 to 300 K. The square of the absorption coefficient spectra showed distinct two absorption edges, which were E0A,B and E0C,D transitions at Γ point in the Brillouin zone. The temperature dependence of the direct-gap energies, E0A,B and E0C,D, of ZnGa2Se4 were determined and fit using the analytical four-parameter expression developed for the explanation of the band-gap shrinkage effect in semiconductors. The PL emissions at near band-edge and at higher energy than band-edge were also observed at T ≤ 150 K.

Un operador T actuando sobre un espacio de Banach X satisface la propiedad (aw) si σ(T) \ σW(T) = E0a(T), donde σW (T) es el espectro de Weyl de T y E0a(T) es el conjunto de todos los autovalores de T de multiplicidad finita que son aislados en el espectro aproximado puntual de T. En este artículo introducimos y estudiamos dos nuevas propiedades espectrales, llamadas (Saw) y (Sab), en conexión con teoremas tipo Weyl-Browder. Entre otros resultados, mostramos que T satisface la propiedad (Saw) si y sólo si T satisface la propiedad (aw) y σSBF-+ (T) = σW (T), donde σSBF-+ (T) es el espectro superiormente semi B-Weyl de T.

Abstract:

No presente trabalho realizamos uma análise historiográfica da obra História do ensino industrial no Brasil, de autoria do educador-engenheiro Celso Suckow da Fonseca (1905-1966). Utilizamos o método histórico, conforme descrito por Rüsen (2015), buscando compreender os pressupostos teórico-metodológicos que nortearam a obra. Os entendimentos de intelectual, lugar social e escrita da história são referenciais para a análise da fonte. Diante da sua atuação em diversos papéis no campo da educação profissional no Brasil, Suckow apresenta indícios de sua escrita engajada. A partir das matrizes interpretativas, propostas por Xavier (2011), apontamos elementos da matriz político-institucional na obra analisada, mas concomitantemente às matrizes sociológica e político-ideológicas.

Abstract:

O presente artigo propõe-se a abordar o estudo do pensamento educacional de um representante da Escola Nova em Portugal, António de Sena Faria de Vasconcelos (1880-1939). A partir de 1912, o autor dirigirá uma escola por ele próprio fundada em Bierges-Les-Wavre, experiência caracterizada por contemporâneos como uma das principais ações de aplicação dos princípios renovados em educação. Em uma primeira etapa de sua produção, que vai do início do século aproximadamente aos anos de 1920, a ênfase se dá na discussão do método ativo, daquilo que Faria de Vasconcelos prefere denominar de autogoverno, ou, mais precisamente, self-government. Do ponto de vista teórico-metodológico, o estudo inscreve-se na perspectiva da história das mentalidades. Os procedimentos metodológicos adotados são a leitura e a análise das obras completas do autor, tomando esse corpus documental em paralelo com contemporâneos seus.

Abstract:

O artigo apresenta uma metodologia de análise de manuais escolares sob uma perspectiva relacional, a partir da sociologia de Pierre Bourdieu. Primeiramente, discutimos as diferentes nomenclaturas sobre o manual escolar, abordando o desenvolvimento do campo de pesquisa denominado manualística, para então destacarmos três elementos metodológicos: a) os manuais escolares respondem a exigências externas, pois são produtos pedagógicos projetados por diferentes agentes do campo educacional que possuem distintas representações do mundo social; b) possuem uma lógica interna, pois fazem parte da cultura escolar para onde são direcionados, recepcionados e ressignificados; e, c) exigem para sua análise uma pluralidade de métodos, sendo a análise de conteúdo e documental insuficientes para a compreensão sociológica desse objeto.

Abstract:

Os manuais escolares ou livros de textos se constituem como uma fonte relevante para a investigação histórico-educativa desde que a historiografia da educação pôs seu foco na cultura escolar, processo que recorre, sobretudo, as últimas três décadas. O livro escolar, desde então, tem sido considerado um dispositivo fundamental para a transmissão de saberes e para a organização das práticas escolares. Tendo isso por base, este dossiê pretende refletir sobre algumas questões metodológicas ao redor da manualística, um campo de pesquisa que tem produzido ao redor de si um corpus extenso de pesquisas de caráter histórico e didático, nem sempre atento às preocupações metodológicas. Assim, a partir dos trabalhos apresentados neste dossiê, buscamos divulgar as pesquisas ao redor da análise dos manuais escolares e livros de texto, possibilitando o diálogo com novas perspectivas metodológicas sobre essas fontes documentais. Propõe-se, igualmente, lançar um olhar sobre como as metodologias próprias das ciências sociais podem auxiliar na análise e nos questionamentos sobre os processos históricos-educativos que têm os manuais escolares objetos e fontes de pesquisa privilegiados

Abstract:

O presente artigo se propõe a investigar o ensino de desenho nos cursos oferecidos pelo Departamento de Artes (DEARTES) da Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR), a saber os cursos de desenho industrial e as licenciaturas em educação artística, habilitação artes plásticas e desenho. O recorte da pesquisa investiga os currículos vigentes entre os anos de 1981 a 1987, nos quais as disciplinas de desenho eram ministradas tanto pelo DEARTES como pelo Departamento de Desenho (DDES), que mantinham configurações diferentes sobre a concepção de desenho. A organização do trabalho está dividida em três partes: 1) Interlocuções entre os Departamentos de Artes e Desenho; 2) Currículo de Desenho Industrial, ComunicaçãoVisual e das habilitações de Desenho e Artes Plásticas; 3) Prescrições do ensino de desenho e plástica. Para realizar a análise proposta, o referencial teórico utilizado se vale do conceito de figuração de Elias, campo de Bourdieu e as contribuições sobre a história das disciplinas de Chervel e Goodson. As fontes utilizadas são documentos oficiais, programas de disciplinas e atas. O que permitiu analisar as prescrições sobre o desenho que compunham o currículo dos cursos citados.

Este artigo procura retomar os congressos sobre educação de surdos ocorridos no final do século XIX, principalmente a seção dos surdos do Congresso de Paris, em 1900, compreendendo-os num conjunto mais amplo onde se situa também o Congresso de Milão (1880). Desta maneira, tomamos o Congrès International pour l’Étude des Questions d´Éducation et d´Assistance des Sourds-Muets – section des sourds-muets como ‘documento-monumento’ que nos permite problematizar as verdades produzidas em torno dessa história e debruçamo-nos sobre as deliberações dos surdos, considerando-as em sua atualidade e seu potencial questionador do que tem sido afirmado sobre a educação de surdos ontem e hoje. Trata-se de uma pesquisa documental que visa a dialogar sobre essas verdades no desejo de desinstalarmo-nos e revermos posicionamentos.

Abstract:

El primer objetivo del trabajo es continuar avanzando en cuestiones metodológicas relacionadas con la investigación manualística, construyendo sobre la base de trabajos teóricos y empíricos anteriores. Este propósito conduce hacia el segundo objetivo: resaltar la relevancia y necesidad de estudiar a fondo, desde una perspectiva teórica y crítica, los aspectos metodológicos de análisis de los libros de texto. El tercero es presentar una propuesta metodológica multimodal e interdisciplinar que permite obtener información sobre el manual escolar como fuente documental historiográfica, social y política, de manera rigurosa. Se enfatiza la importancia de diferenciar el libro de texto como documento singular multicontextualizado, por una parte, y el objeto de estudio dentro del manual, por otra.

Abstract:

Conflicts of interest between the sexes over control of mating can be reflected in various aspects of morphology and behaviour, including structure of genitalia and copulation duration. In Arrenurus water mites (Hydrachnidia: Arrenuridae) there are two main patterns of sperm transfer that differ in degree of potential male control of sperm uptake by females. In some species, males are equipped with an intromittent organ (the ‘petiole’) that is used to forcefully insert sperm into the female reproductive tract. In others, males lack an intromittent organ and females appear to push sperm into their reproductive opening themselves. Theory suggests that the amount of time spent in courtship after sperm transfer should differ between males with and without an intromittent structure. We predicted that male Arrenurus able to push sperm into the female’s reproductive tract (petiolate males) should spend less time courting females after transferring sperm than apetiolate males, which may have to ‘convince’ females to take up their sperm. Here, we examined durations of mating for 11 species of Arrenurus with males that differ in genital morphology: seven species with males equipped with a well-developed petiole (= ‘petiolate’ species) and four species with males that either completely lack a petiole or have a minute peg-like petiole that does not appear to function as an intromittent organ (= ‘apetiolate’ species). We tested whether males of petiolate species spend less time in the stage of courtship that takes place after sperm transfer (= ‘post-transfer courtship’) than apetiolate males. In contrast to our prediction, we found that species with well developed petioles spent significantly more time in post-transfer behaviours than species lacking petioles. The possible function of protracted post-transfer courtship in the genus Arrenurus is discussed.

Abstract:

Wheat stripe rust, powdery mildew, and Fusarium head blight (FHB) are the three most important diseases in wheat worldwide. Growing resistant cultivars is the most economic and effective method to control these diseases. To assess the disease resistance of commercial wheat cultivars and regional trial wheat lines in the Huang-Huai-Hai region of China, 146 wheat entries were inoculated with the Chinese prevalent Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (Pst) races CYR32, CYR33, CYR34, and Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici (Bgt) isolate E09 under controlled greenhouse conditions, respectively; these entries were also tested with the mixed Pst races, Bgt and FHB isolates at adult-plant stage in the field, respectively. The results showed that 108 (73.97%), 83 (56.85%), 99 (67.81%), and 22 (15.07%) entries were resistant to CYR32, CYR33, CYR34, and E09 at the seedling stage, respectively; 102 (69.86%), 24 (16.44%), and 2 (1.37%) entries were resistant to stripe rust, powdery mildew, and Fusarium head blight at the adult-plant stage, respectively. Additionally, the possible resistance gene(s) in these entries were postulated by the closely linked markers of stripe rust resistance genes Yr5, Yr9, Yr10, Yr15, Yr17, Yr18, Yr26, powdery mildew resistance gene Pm21, and Fusarium head blight resistance gene Fhb1. Combined with disease resistance and molecular markers tests, 62, nine, and three wheat entries were postulated to carry the Yr9, Yr17, Yr26 gene, respectively, and no entries contained Yr5, Yr10, Yr15, Yr18, Pm21, and Fhb1 gene. This study laid a theoretical foundation for rational utilization of these entries and gene in wheat breeding programs and disease control.

Most of chip multiprocessors (CMPs) are symmetric, i.e. they are composed of identical cores. These CMPs may consist of complex cores (e.g., Intel Haswell or IBM Power8) or simple and lower-power cores (e.g. ARM Cortex A9 or Intel Xeon Phi). Cores in the former approach have advanced microarchitectural features, such as out-of-order super-scalar pipelines, and they are suitable for running sequential applications which use them efficiently. Cores in the latter approach have a simple microarchitecture and are good for running applications with high thread-level parallelism (TLP).

Abstract:

We developed a Reaction Diffusion Convection (RDC) model for forest fire propagation coupled to a visualization platform with several functionalities requested by local firefighters. The dynamical model aims to understand the key mechanisms driving fire propagation in the Patagonian region. We'll show in this work the first tests considering combustion and diffusion in artificial landscapes. The simulator, developed in CUDA/OpenGL, integrates several layers including topography, weather, and fuel data. It allows to visualize the fire propagation and also to interact with the user in simulation time. The Fire Weather Index (FWI), extensively used in Argentina to support operative preventive measures for forest fires management, was also coupled to our visualization platform. This additional functionality allows the user to visualize on the landscape the fire risks, that are closely related to FWI, for Northwest Patagonian forests in Argentina.
