Abstract:
The paper presents the results of numerical analysis and in-situ measurements of two railway bridge spans subjected to an action of moving vehicles. The railway vehicle is introduced using four simplified load models: series of concentrated forces, series of lumped masses and series of single-mass and two-mass oscillators. Numerical simulations are performed using FE method. The dynamic parameters of the vehicle and the bridge models are determined on the basis of modal identification results of existing structures – EN57 traction unit and steel bridges of 10 and 30 m theoretical span length. The vertical displacements and accelerations of the mid-span are analysed. The numerical results are referred to the results of in-situ measurements performed under operating conditions. A qualitative and quantitative comparison is made for all load models and bridge spans under analysis in the forced vibration range.

Abstract:
A new virus was identified in late December 2019 when China reported the first cases of pneumonia in Wuhan, and a global COVID-19 pandemic followed. The world was not late to respond, with a number of sweeping measures ranging from social distancing protocols, stringent hygienic practices, and nation-wide lockdowns, as well as COVID-19 testing campaigns in an attempt to prevent the transmission of the disease and contain the pandemic. Currently, different types of diagnostic testing have been adopted globally, such as nucleic acid detection tests, immunological tests and imaging approaches; however, real-time reverse transcriptase–polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) remains the “gold standard” for detection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Pre-analytical factors, such as specimen selection and collection, are crucial for RT-PCR, and any suboptimal collection may contribute to false-negative results. Herein, we address some of the specimen types that have been used in molecular detection methods for COVID-19. However, the pandemic is still evolving, and information might change as more studies are conducted.

Abstract:
This study examines the degree to which item and test-taker characteristics have an effect on the test-taker’s listening performance in a video-based listening test. A total of 114 participants were allocated into two separate groups, and an identical listening test consisting of retired items of the CSAT English was developed in two different modes (audio-only and video) and was given to each group. The test performance of the two groups was compared by prompt type (dialogue and lecture) and proficiency (low-mid-high). Findings showed that test-takers in all three proficiency groups performed better in video mode, but the differences were not statistically significant. Findings of logistic regression models showed that the significant positive effect of visual input was constant over all initial listening performance levels, but it did not vary by proficiency. Test-takers performed better in the lecture items than in the dialogue items in both conditions. When cross-classified multilevel logistic models were fitted, a significantly larger random effect of the item was found over the testtaker random effect. This study expands our understanding of the factors associated with the listening construct when a video is included in the listening tests.
