Full textThis methodological study had the following objectives: to adapt the Perceived Stigmatization Questionnaire (PSQ) and the Social Comfort Questionnaire (SCQ); and to assess the validity and reliability in a sample of Brazilians who suffered burns. The PSQ and the SCQ assesses respectively, the perception of stigmatization and the social comfort among burn victims. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committees of the institutions studied. We included patients over 18 years old undergoing rehabilitation process of burn, with or without hospitalization in two Burn Units in Brazil. The cross-cultural adaptation process of the instruments was performed according to international guidelines. The construct validity related to the dimensionality of the instruments was evaluated by the exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The reliability analysis was performed using the Cronbach\'s alpha. The reproducibility of the instruments was assessed by the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). The construct validity was assessed by the multitrait-multimethod matrix (MTMM) through the constructs: self-esteem (Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale), depression (Beck Depression Inventory) and affection/body image and interpersonal relationships (Burn Specific Health Scale-Revised). The analysis of known-groups was tested by comparing the scores of the instruments according to the burn visibility, body surface in the area burned and gender. The significance level was 0.05. A total of 240 burn patients participated in the study. The goodness-of-fit indices were satisfactory for the total score of the PSQ, however, not for the subscale hostile behavior. This subscale was modified by removing 3 items to obtain a better adjust: the PSQ refined version (BR-PSQ-R) (?2=229.53; d.f.=132; p<0.001; RMSEA=0.06; CFI=0.94; TLI=0.94). Cronbach\'s alpha ranged from 0.65 to 0.88. The ICC value was 0.87 for the total score. The BR-PSQ-R showed strong and positive correlation with depression (0.63; p < 0.001), and strong and negative correlation with self-esteem (-0.57; p<0.001), and affection/body image (-0.63; p<0.001), and interpersonal relationships (-0.55; p<0.001). The total score of the BR-PSQ-R was significant and higher for patients with visible scars (effect size=0.51; p=0.029). In the CFA of the SCQ was identified unsatisfactory goodness-of-fit for the original model with one-factor structure with 8 items, thus, the model was reduced to 6 items (BR-SCQ-R) and better goodness-of-fit indices were identified (?2=458.7; d.f.=7; p<0.001; RMSEA=0.05; CFI=0.99; TLI=0.99). Cronbach\'s alpha was 0.80 and the ICC value in the test-retest was 0.86 for the BR-PSQ-R. The final version showed strong and negative correlation with depression (-0.56; p<0.001); and strong and positive correlations with affection/body image (0.60; p<0.001), interpersonal relationships (0.57; p<0.001) and self-esteem (0.52; p<0.001). In the analysis of known- groups we identified statistically significant difference between patients who considered their scars visible (effect size=-0.49; p=0.012). The results showed that the refined versions of the PSQ and SCQ showed reliability and validity comparable to the original versions. On the other hand, the structure related to the hostile behavior subscale of the BR-PSQ-R and the sensitivity of both instruments must be evaluated in future studies.

The study aimed to translate and culturally adapt to the Portuguese language in the context of Brazil the Intermittent Self-Catheterization Questionnaire. The type of this study was methodological and followed the translation procedures and transcultural adaptation, which comprises five phases, namely: initial translation, translation synthesis, translation back to the original language, review by expert committee, and translated version of the pre-test. The study participants were five translators and five judges in accordance with specific criteria in the methodological reference. The pre-test was conducted with thirty people with spinal cordy injury at home, randomly recruited from an existing database, in the months of Ausgust and September 2014, by means of two instruments: characterization form sociodemographic and clinical, and implementation of the Intermittent Self-Catheterization Questionnaire â translated version. After the the transcultural adaptation was held Content Validation Index, with 17 experts in the area of spinal cord injury and / or intermittent catheterization. The analysis of data translation and the transcultural adaptation is presented in tabular form with the descriptive analysis. The sÃciodemographic data of the pre-test were compiled and analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 19.0, presented in table form, and the descriptive analysis. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of CearÃ, with the report number 562 693. The results show that in the first two versions, translation 1 and 2, there were no significant differences between translations. In Translation synthesis was contemplated most of the translation of item 2.In the Step Back Translation, the translation did not show much disparity of the original questionnaire, except some English terms, but nothing that would change the context of each item. In step of the committee of judges for review was a meeting in order to evaluate semantic, idiomatic, experimental and conceptual of each questionnaire item, to display all the inconsistencies of previous translations. Some items changes, and thus obtained the pre-final version of Intermittent Self-Catheterization Questionnaire -Version translated and then applied to the pre-test. The Content Validation Index was 0.92 and the individual values of items ranging from 0.29 to 1. Three items obtained an IVC lower than the recommended, however the total instrument was considered valid in the content. It follows, therefore, that the translated version of Intermittent Self-Catheterization Questionnaire proved to be a reliable, clear and understandable instrument among the items which can evaluate the quality of life of people with spinal cord injury who perform the catheterization. Allows nurses know the problems related to intermittent catheterization and encourage the patient to promote their health, making it a person with more independence and control of your situation, besides being more one contribution to the knowledge of nursing.

Abstract: Body Image can be taken as the mental representation of the body. The avoidance of close situations, of social exposition, the use of wide clothes and the compulsory checking of the body forms some adopted behaviors to accomodate the negative body image. The aim of the present study was to translate, to make a transcultural adaptation and to validate for the Portuguese language of Brazil the scales ¿Body Image Avoidance Questionnaire "(BIAQ) and" Body Checking Questionnaire "(BCQ) for university women. The research was divided in two phases. The initial phase included the stages of translation, synthesis, backtranslation, formulation of the Brazilian questionnaire and the its test in a sample of the target population. In the second phase a study of psychometric properties of the questionnaires was made through the confirmatory factorial analysis the data of the 561 collected questionnaires. After process of adjustments of the models, based on the established criteria, the results had indicated a greater adherence of the data for the model that establishes that Body Image avoidance is kept by strategies of hungry and body shape control, by strategies of denay and strategies for accommodate the negative Body Image. For the body chekhing, the model of greater adherence establishes that concern with measures, concerns that lead to observe, concerns that lead to compare and search for perception information are that keeps the checking behavior. We expect that this research contributes for the future studies of Body Image in Brazil, in the measure that it searched to offer to the Brazilian researchers is a trustworthy measure to analyze traces of the body image that today they are inaccessible

Santos, Andreia.
Introduction: In Portugal, Chronic Low Back Pain (CLBP) is one of the most frequent rheumatological changes, which affects 12,3% (95%CI: 10,5-14,3) of adults individuals. In complexity of CLBP, there are different pain components, which are nociceptive NOC), neuropathic (NEP) and mixed that might contribute to different types of pain in an individual. Objective: Contribute to the validation of PAIN DETECT QUESTIONNAIRE (PDQ) through the study of its reliability and construct validity in classification of the NOC/NEP and mixed components, in patients with CLBP. Methodology: A cross-sectional methodological study was carried out to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Portuguese version of PDQ in 102 subjects with DLC. The study of the structural validity of PDQ-PT through Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), internal consistency, test reliability and construct validity (convergent and discriminative) was carried out. In order to evaluate the validity of the convergent and discriminative construct, a priori hypotheses regarding correlation strength and statistical significance were established with DN4-PT (convergent validity) and related to the instrument's ability to detect differences with statistical significance between the NOC and NEP subgroups in the intensity of the pain (numerical scale of pain) and functional disability (Quebec Back Pain Disability Scale). Results: Through AFE revealed an initial factorial solution of only one common factor (descriptors of neuropathic pain), with an eigenvalue of 3.45 that explains 49.3% of the total variance in the set of 7 items analyzed. PDQ-PT revealed excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.84) and excellent test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.97, 95% CI: 0.95-0.98, p <0.001). Regarding the construct validity, all hypotheses established a priori were corroborated. Spearman correlation was observed between PDQ-PT and DN4-PT (r = 0.739, p <0.001) and fundamental differences were detected in subjects with DLC, regarding pain intensity and functional disability, among DLC NEP patients and NOC (p = 0.005 and p = 0.011, respectively). Conclusion: PDQ-PT demonstrated good validity and reliability, recommending its use in the measurement and classification of the predominant type of pain (NOC / NEP and MISTA) in patients with DLC, in clinical and research context.

The evaluation of personality plays a prominent role in psychology. In spite of its different theoretical concepts, evaluation is needed, which is shown in the considerable number of instruments available for that. In Brazil, a phenomenon still not solved by the area of psychological evaluation, especially with regard to the so-called objective tests, is the need for instruments that are adequate for a considerable portion of the population that has difficulties in reading and understanding texts. This difficulty can invalidate assessments that are based on scales and verbal inventories, for the individuals may not be able to understand the instrument given to them. In this context, the studies conducted in this dissertation aimed to adapt and collect evidence of the validity of a nonverbal personality test. According to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), almost a third of the Brazilian population can be considered illiterate or functionally illiterate. Exposing these people to an evaluation mediated by an instrument whose stimuli do not reach them may not result in the expected objective, that is, millions of people can be excluded from objective personality tests. The possibility of offering a non-verbal instrument as a way to get around this issue was the main reason that guided this work.

Full textThe aim of this present Project was to translate and adapt the Obsessional Beliefs Questionnaire – OBQ-44 to the Brazilian Portuguese, and to verify its psychometric properties in patients with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). During the first stage, the OBQ-44 was translated and adapted to the Brazilian Portuguese, and it was administrated to 20 patients with OCD to observe its comprehension and linguistic accuracies. After being back-translated, a final version was developed and approved by the author. Its Brazilian version presents to be easily comprehended and suitable to be used with patients belonging to several socio-economic classes, and to identify the belief domains in patients with OCD, assisting the understanding of the origin and maintenance of the disorder. During the second stage, its psychometric properties were evaluated in 104 patients with OCD, of whom 48 underwent 12 weekly sessions of cognitive-behavioral group therapy (CBGT), and 56 remained on the waiting list, at Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre. Through factor analysis, 3 belief domains from the original scale were identified, very good internal consistence, and good reproducibility. After intervention, the sensitiveness to changes was good and, regarding the standardized measures of effect, a strong intensity was verified. The Brazilian version of the OBQ-44 presented good psychometric properties and value to the study of dysfunctional beliefs in patients with OCD and the alterations after treatment.

Abstract: Musculoskeletal disorders are a major public health problem in developed countries. They have great impact on the population due to their high prevalence and morbidity, and due to their significant potential for causing disabilities. Health- and work-related organizations and researchers have attempted to use a variety of questionnaires and scales to measure different aspects of disability due to pain. The Pain Disability Questionnaire (PDQ) assesses physical and the psychosocial aspects of disability caused by pain. The objective of the present research project was to translate and adapt "The Pain Disability Questionnaire" into Brazilian Portuguese, in order to assess its psychometric properties and to verify its usability. Methodological steps recommended by specialized publications were followed in order to ensure the quality of adaptation: translation, back-translation, synthesis, evaluation by a committee of judges, and a pretest with 30 patients. The psychometric properties were assessed by applying the questionnaire to 119 patients with chronic musculoskeletal disorders. Reliability was verified by internal consistency and test-retest stability. The validity was obtained through correlation analyses of the Pain Disability Questionnaire scores with the numerical pain scale and with the Spitzer Quality of Life Index (QLI). The validity was verified using the known-groups technique, administering the questionnaire both to a group with chronic musculoskeletal disorders and to a group with no disabilities. The instrument's usability was assessed using a five-point Likert scale, addressing time spent and facility in answering. The results indicate the instrument's reliability, with a Cronbach's Alpha Coefficient of 0.86. Test-retest results showed a high intraclass correlation: ICC=0.95 (p <0.001, 95% CI: 0.93, 0.96). A moderate positive correlation (r = 0.33) was found between the scores of the Pain Disability Questionnaire and the numerical pain scale. Statistically significant negative correlations were found with the Pain Disability Questionnaire Total (r = -0.70), the Functional Condition (r =- 0.63), and the Psychosocial Component (r =- 0.69) as correlated with the Spitzer Quality of Life Index (QLI). In assessing validity using the known-groups technique, a statistically significant difference was found in scores of the PDQ between subjects with musculoskeletal symptoms and individuals with no disability. The usability evaluation showed rapid application and ease of understanding on the part of subjects of the study. The results indicate that the cross-cultural adaptation process was successful and that the adapted version offers reliable and valid psychometric measures in the Brazilian context

Full textThis work aimed to translate and adapt to Brazilian Portuguese the Drinking Motives Questionnaire-Revised (DMQ-R) presenting validity evidences to this version. The measure assesses four dimensions of alcohol use motivation: social, enhancement, coping and conformity. The work is organized in two independent papers. In the first one, a review of the literature is done, presenting the construct, differentiating it from drinking expectancies and emphasizing its role as predictors and mediators of alcohol use. In the second one, two studies regarding the factorial structure of the Brazilian Portuguese version of DMQ-R are presented. Exploratory and confirmatory strategies were employed complementarily to evaluate the most representative structure for the data. A revised, four-factor model was chosen as the best solution. Methodological difficulties and suggestions for future research are discussed.
