Abstract:
Abstract: Know your client or simply KYC, is a process utilized by businesses and financial institutions to identify their clients and evaluate any potential risks associated with illegal intentions and unethical behavior. The term KYC often refers to bank regulations and anti-money laundering regulations aimed at governing these activities. Due to concerns over bribery and unethical behavior, companies of all sizes are required to implement KYC to ensure their agents, consultants, and distributors comply with anti-bribery regulations. Despite the use of traditional KYC systems, there are limitations to their effectiveness. To address these limitations, a proposed system has been developed that uses the immutable nature of Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) to create a tamper-proof system. This system enables customers and financial institutions to verify and record KYC documents on the DLT, providing greater efficiency, cost reduction, improved customer experience, and end-to-end transparency in integrating customer documents into the bank's database. Additionally, this system eliminates the need for repeated KYC checks performed by banks through the creation of a secure and common blockchain database. The blockchain's secure nature ensures that unauthorized changes to the data are immediately invalidated and the use of a proof-of-reputation concept makes the verification process more robust.

Abstract:
Financial Inclusion has been determined as one of the factors affecting national development. Bank account opening provides opportunity to more banking services and as such central banks have been supporting the use of Electronic-Know-Your-Customer (e-KYC) even before COVID-19 pandemic. While the benefits of e-KYC for the banks and its customers are clear, the widespread use of such process for account opening is still in its early adoption stage. This research employed a quantitative method by adopting the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology as as theoretical foundation and extension constructs and determined the factors affecting the use and adoption of e-KYC for online bank account opening. As a result, facilitating conditions and perceived security were found to be significant factors affecting the intension to use e-KYC. Through this research, it was able to validate the use of the research model in studying e-KYC adoption and provided management key areas leading to e-KYC use that they may focus on.

Abstract:
Abstract: Know Your Customer or KYC processes are the backbones of a financial institution’s anti-money laundering efforts. KYC processes are mandatory in most of Europe and India. Almost all countries have their own process for identifying and keeping a record of their citizens like the USA has Social Security Protocol. According to current estimates, the amount of KYC spending rose to up to $1.8 Billion in 2021 on a global level. Despite the importance of the process, KYC continues to operate inefficiently. KYC processes are labor-intensive and time-consuming tasks. It is estimated that 80% of KYC efforts go in gathering information and processing while only 20% of efforts are evaluating and monitoring focused. This centralization of data is causing an inefficient KYC process and creating issues like :- Misidentification of fraudulent data , Inability of tracking customers, customers entering fake data(address, age etc) , delayed processing time and very high cost of processing. Reimagining KYC Using Blockchain Technology will enable seamless and secure data exchange at a fraction of the cost. A decentralized blockchain network will Facilitate near real-time data exchange. Blockchain when used with other technologies can indicate great potential to help organizations reduce the cost and time linked with the KYC process. The introduction of blockchain in KYC brings data on a decentralized network which also has its own pros like distributed data collection ,higher operational efficiency , validation of accuracy of the information. The customer will build their profile on the DCT KYC network. There are multiple options to store the data like Centralized encrypted servers, DCT platforms like IPFS(Interplanetary File System). Customers will perform transactions with Financial Institutions by giving them access to users profile( restricted non-appendable access),Using hashing and cryptographic processes the data would safely be called and returned to the DCT network . Thus making sure the whole process is immutable .

Abstract:
Since the 2008 financial crisis, the complexity of regulations and the use of technology and innovation in the financial sector have increased. This makes banks as financial institutions starting to adapt to financial technology very vulnerable to technological risks, one of which is money laundering. Regulatory Technology (RegTech) is a technology trend to assist bank management in supporting regulatory compliance efforts and offering money laundering prevention solutions. Based on this, this study aims to examine the relationship of RegTech, which is represented by three independent variables: Electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC), Transaction Monitoring, and Time and Cost Efficiency, on Money Laundering Prevention. This study shows that transaction monitoring, as well as cost and time efficiency, have a significant effect on money laundering prevention. In contrast, e-KYC does not affect money laundering prevention. This research is intended to provide valuable insights to Financial Institutions to increase awareness of the importance of adopting new technologies and maintaining good relations with regulators to prevent money laundering in Indonesia.

Abstract:
The identity of people on the Internet is becoming a major security issue. Since the Bale agreements, banking institutions have integrated the verification of people's identity or Know Your Customer (KYC) in their registration process. With the dematerialization of banks, this procedure has become e-KYC or remote KYC which works remotely through the user's smartphone. Similarly, remote identity verification has become the standard for enrollment in electronic signature tools. New regulations are emerging to secure this approach, for example, in France, the PVID framework regulates the remote acquisition of identity documents and people's faces under the eIDAS regulation. This is required because a new type of digital crime is emerging: deep identity theft. With new deep learning tools, imposters can change their appearance to look like someone else in real time. Imposters can then perform all the common actions required in a remote registration without being detected by identity verification algorithms. Today, smartphone applications and tools for a more limited audience exist allowing imposters to easily transform their appearance in real time. There are even methods to spoof an identity based on a single image of the victim's face. The objective of this thesis is to study the vulnerabilities of remote identity authentication systems against new attacks in order to propose solutions based on deep learning to make the systems more robust

Abstract:
In the birth of modernity, there was a great productive growth, which led to the increase of institutions mediating social life. The effects of this situation in the sphere of social discourse and in the formation of the subjects also manifested themselves in the theater, in the formation of the characters. The transition from a mythical mentality to a rationalist one marked the subjects, often tragically, torn between disjointed demands and opposed discourses. Subjectivity became the battlefield of this type of struggle. A prime example of this moment is The Spanish Tragedy, by Thomas Kyd. Kyd was the first author to concentrate most of his monologues on a single character, contrasting with earlier plays such as Gorboduc, where the monologues were more widely distributed. This enabled a concentration of tension and a dramaturgical development that influenced generations, including a young beginner playwright named William Shakespeare. It is not only a coincidence that Kyd inaugurated, with his play, a genre, the revenge tragedy, which created a long lineage, the most illustrious representative being Hamlet. But this concentrated development, which allowed a crescendo throughout the play, if looked closely, presents another dimension. The linguistic making of the monologues brings materials from the most diverse sources. If linguistic resources of classical literature and court rhetoric are present, there is also a diction from the bourgeoisie, whether from the religious controversies or from the court books, which discussed proper behavior in society. Therefore, we have textual resources coming from the social actors who confronted each other in that era: decadent aristocracy and rising bourgeoisie. Viewed in a sequence, the monologues show a transition from the more traditional and conservative forms of discourse to the more modern ones. In this way, the development of the character and the dramatic structure built around him become a mirror of his time. The same tension that we see in the great picture of history, if we close the focus on the character, even more, on his interiority, in the monologues, reappears in his forms of discourse. Making a historical overview, a description of the development of the character and a detailed examination of moments of his monologues, we hope to demonstrate these links.

Crops have phenological stages with less susceptibility to water deficit, in which the strategy of deficit irrigation management can be employed in order to maximize production per unit of irrigation water. Thus, the purpose of this research was to evaluate the responses of sunflower cultivation with full irrigation and with different water deficits durin g its phenological stages in order to collect information on the technical feasibility of the irrigation deficit in the sunflower crop, for the conditions of the semiarid in state of Ceara, Brazil. In the field the experiment was conducted at Experimental Farm Vale do Curu, in Pentecoste (Ceara, Brazil) under experimental design of randomized blocks with four replications and eight treatments, defined in function of the time of water deficit induction in the three sunflower phenological stages (vegetative, flowering and production formation), corresponding to the occurrence of water deficit in one, two or three stages. The water deficit irrigation level employed consisted of half the irrigation evaluated as being full irrigation. All the cultural and phytosanitary practices required was carried. In order to measure the effects of the treatments it was evaluated, at the end of each developmental stage, the following variables: leaf temperature, photosynthesis rates, transpiration, stomatal conductance, internal concentration of CO2, instantaneous efficiencies and intrinsic water use, plant height, quantity of leaf, stemdiameter, leaf area, dry biomass production of the constituents of the aerial part (stem, leaf, petiole and chapter) and the participation of each element in relation to the production of total dry matter (partition). On the occasion of harvest time, it was evaluated the components of production (diameter of chapter, mass of 1000 achenes and oil and protein content), the income potential of producing acheness, oil and protein, and the indices of efficiency of water use to produce achenes, oil and protein. The variables were subjected to statistical analysis, performing analysis of variance (F test) and Tukey's test to compare means. It was also determined the coefficients of sensitivity to water deficit (KY) isolated in stadiums and in the cycle of the crop through the relationship between relative income decrease and relative evapotranspiration deficit. The results presented that the temperature and leaf gas exchanges howed no effects of the applied water stresses, regardless of the time when these were applied. The times of evaluation influenced all variables related to gas exchange, except for the intrinsic efficiency of water use. The plant height, leaf number and stem diameter were negatively affected by the isolated effects of irrigation deficits and evaluation times. The irrigation deficit and the evaluation time interacted and affected leaf area, dry mass of leaf, petiole, stem, capitulum and total dry mass. The d eficit irrigation did not change the partition of dry matter. Changes were observed in capitulum diameter, in the mass of one thousand achenes, in the achene oil content, in the achene, oil and protein production potentials, and in the water use efficiency in the production of achenes and oil (for the applied water deficits). The management strategy of water deficit during the vegetative and flowering stages contributed to the achievement of an achene production potential at a level equivalent to that achieved in cultivation with full irrigation throughout the growing season. Regardless of the phenological phase, the water deficit exerted a positive effect on the efficiency of water use in the achene production. The incidence of water deficit during the flowering stage was more advantageous to the efficiency of water use in oil production than at any other stage, and did not influence the efficiency of water use in protein production, regardless of phenological stage on which it happened. Sensitivity to water deficit quantified by the coefficient of sensitivity to water stress (K Y) varied in the following decreasing order: production formation, vegetative and flowering, with water deficit occurring in only one developmental stage. For the deficit conditions in two stages, the coefficient KY showed that the lack of water has the greatest impact on sunflower achene yield when it occurs in both vegetative and production formation stages. As the K Y values were less than 1 at all stages, it is concluded that the sun flower culture showed a low sensitivity to the water deficits applied, showing, therefore, vulnerability to water deficit irrigation practice throughout its cycle.

This study is about the urgency of an ethical and aesthetically mindful School for the humans who compose it. It s based on the indigenous myth of The Stone Home , of the Mỹky people. In this myth, House and Way appear like archetypes that intertwine themselves with the stillness and the wager, as who s dreaming of Walking from the Home to the hope that will be the construction of the coziness. The desire inside this work is a School that can be a cozy place. In this School, living together with the Other, we wagered in the not-yet dream, that will only be extant, if we leave Home and, from it, start an ethical-aesthetical way of living. The School is the necessary ethos of developing life in its totality; it is the Home from where students gaze at the way and build possible dreams, pro-ject the possible Utopia. Finally, a curriculum that rouse to the delight, then the desire of this Walking will be, itself, Aesthetic. Otherwise, it will not be creative Walking, it will be blunting. Similarly, the aesthetical dimension is, necessarily, an opened Way; it is curriculum. Walking is aesthetically building curriculum. This work´s purpose is to transform curriculum into verb and it is certain that it will be ethos for the tempting action of the human way of being educated and educator

In this study, using the Method of Characteristics and numeric resources, presents a solution to the equation Spectral Density Evolution of Turbulent Kinetic Energy for a Convective Boundary Layer (CBL) in the morning. It presents three models for the evolution of spectral energy density. The first model, based on the assumption of a system of isotropic turbulence, considering only terms of energy transfer inertial and viscous dissipation. The second model adds the term energy production due to the onset of action of the parameter of heat flux on the surface, but consider it a term of energy transfer inertial anisotropy. The third model employs a mixed configuration of the two previous models, assuming thus distinct regions of operation to inertial transfer terms. The results shaped the evolution of the CLC. In this case, the growth of the energy spectrum is modeled by inserting energy in the region of low wave numbers, a region in which the term of anisotropic energy transfer can not transfer the energy introduced by the energy production term. It is observed that in a region of wave number higher there is a stabilization of the parameter variation temporal on the plane characteristics curves (PCC), indicating that the variation of wave number govern the evolution of the energy spectrum. This fact establishes a kind of criterion for stationarity of turbulent flow regimes.

Abstract:
The Private Banking sector in Portugal has been evolving with the current technological developments. At this segment of national banking industry, Banco Carregosa excels in the relationship with its customers, supported by the personalized treatment and customized offer so that each customer is supplied with a variety of products and services that meet their values and the ones shared by the Bank. This happens by considering all the information the Bank has about the customer, coming from a wide range of data sources. In this Master Final Assignment we wanted to deepen the knowledge about the client and the Bank's products by performing analysis conducted through Machine Learning techniques such as Clustering, Market Basket Analysis and study of the churners. In addition to this, we developed dashboards containing relevant information about customers, accounts, leads and their conversions into accounts, bank products and movements in the capital markets, all geared to better understand the customer's next step and also equip Banco Carregosa with valuable information for decision making, having it available in a quick, intuitive and explanatory way. This way, we use a variety of techniques, namely, K-means, Apriori algorithm, Naïve Bayes, Logistic Regression and Dashboards. In the end, we concluded that the use of Business Intelligence, Analytics and Data Mining can feed good, precise and valuable information to Banco Carregosa. It also allows key decision makers in the organization to know more about how’s the Bank performing, the clients and support their everyday decisions with analytics and quantifiable information, available at a glance.

Perlman, Leon Joseph. "Legal and regulatory aspects of mobile financial services." Thesis, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/13362.

Full text
Abstract:
The thesis deals with the emergence of bank and non-bank entities that provide a range of unique transaction-based payment services broadly called Mobile Financial Services (MFS) to unbanked, underserved and underbanked persons via mobile phones. Models of MFS from Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), banks, combinations of MNOs and banks, and independent Mobile Financial Services Providers are covered. Provision by non-banks of ‘bank-type’ services via mobile phones has been termed ‘transformational banking’ versus the ‘additive banking’ services from banks. All involve the concept of ‘branchless banking’ whereby ‘cash-in/cash out’ services are provided through ‘agents.’ Funds for MFS payments may available through a Stored Value Product (SVP), particularly through a Stored Value Account SVP variant offered by MNOs where value is stored as a redeemable fiat- or mobile ‘airtime’-based Store of Value. The competitive, legal, technical and regulatory nature of non-bank versus bank MFS models is discussed, in particular the impact of banking, payments, money laundering, telecommunications, e-commerce and consumer protection laws. Whether funding mechanisms for SVPs may amount to deposit-taking such that entities could be engaged in the ‘business of banking’ is discussed. The continued use of ‘deposit’ as the traditional trigger for the ‘business of banking’ is investigated, alongside whether transaction and paymentcentric MFS rises to the ‘business of banking.’ An extensive evaluation of ‘money’ based on the Orthodox and Claim School economic theories is undertaken in relation to SVPs used in MFS, their legal associations and import, and whether they may be deemed ‘money’ in law. Consumer protection for MFS and payments generally through current statute, contract, and payment law and common law condictiones are found to be wanting. Possible regulatory arbitrage in relation to MFS in South African law is discussed. The legal and regulatory regimes in the European Union, Kenya and the United States of America are compared with South Africa. The need for a coordinated payments-specific law that has consumer protections, enables proportional risk-based licensing of new non-bank providers of MFS, and allows for a regulator for retail payments is recommended. The use of trust companies and trust accounts is recommended for protection of user funds. | vi

Abstract:
The current process of securing a loan involves a cumbersome know-your-customer (KYC) process. The process also raises a question about the ownership of credit scores. In this chapter, the authors propose a solution based on a combination of decentralized identifier (DID) W3C blockchain and cryptographic wallet to make it possible to make credit scores possible. A decentralized identifier to enable a loan applicant to assert who he/she is without relying on a centralized identity issuer is key to enabling loan applicants to own his/her own credit score. The use of blockchain is to enable loan applicants to have his/her identity recorded immutably on a store that is trusted by all parties. Finally, the use of a cryptographic wallet is to enable loan applicants to assert identities on demand and prove his/her assertion.

The Quaternary Period encompasses the Pleistocene and the Holocene or Recent Epochs. The date used for the beginning of the Pleistocene depends upon which globally recognizable event is selected as representing a significant break with the preceding Pliocene Epoch. Candidates include the Gauss-Matuyama magnetopolarity boundary (~2.8 Ma; see Quaternary International, 1997); the initiation of widespread permafrost, a frigid Arctic Ocean, and rapid glaciation in the high northern latitudes (~2.4 Ma; Shackleton and Opdyke, 1977; Shackleton et al., 1984); or the African Olduvai paleomagnetic event between 1.87 and 1.67 Ma. The transition from hothouse to icehouse conditions was gradual, but the Pleistocene is typified at Vrica, Italy, as beginning at ~1.67 Ma (Aguirre and Pasini, 1985; Richmond and Fullerton, 1986; oxygen isotope stage 62), and that is the date used here. In the conterminous United States the Elk Creek till of Nebraska is 2.14 m.y. in age (Hallberg, 1986), and the onset of the full ice age is represented by the onset of repeated glaciations at ~850 Kya when glaciers extended down the Mississippi River Valley. Subsequently, glacial-interglacial conditions fluctuated until the latest retreat at ~11 Kya that began the Holocene or Recent Epoch. The chronology of ice age events began with the publication of Louis Agassiz’s (1840) Etudes surles Glaciers. In the absence of evidence to the contrary, a single glacial advance was envisioned as blanketing the high latitudes. In the 1940s Willard E Libby at the University of Chicago perfected the technique of radiocarbon dating, and Flint and Rubin (1955) applied this methodology of “isotopic clocks” to establishing the absolute chronology of drift deposits from the eastern and midwestern United States. Their radiocarbon dates showed evidence of two or more times of continental-scale glaciations; older organic material was “radiocarbon inert” and beyond the ~40-Ky range of the technique. A standard chronology eventually became established for North America that included four major glacial stages (Nebraskan, oldest; Kansan; Illinoian; and Wisconsin) separated by four interglacials (Aftonian, oldest; Yarmouth, Sangamon, and the present Holocene).

Abstract:
Abstract Operation of tilting pad journal bearings (TPJBs) with a reduced flow decreases pumping costs and oil sump storage. A low supplied oil flow improves system energy efficiency by reducing drag power losses, albeit the temperature rise in both the bearing pads and the lubricating oil become a concern. This paper presents measurements of the static and dynamic load performance of a flooded ends TPJB lubricated with an ISO VG 46 oil supplied at 60 °C, and with flowrate ranging from 150% to just ∼5% of a nominal supply condition. The flow range covers both over-flooded and starved flow conditions. The test bearing is a four-pad, 102 mm diameter, center pivot, with single orifice feeds, and configured with end seals to flood the bearing housing. The experiments include operation at two shaft speeds = 6 krpm and 12 krpm (= 64 m/s surface speed) and under three specific loads = 0.345 MPa, 1.03 MPa and 2.07 MPa applied in between pads (LBP). The measurements show the bearing drag power loss decreases by nearly 20% when the flow rate drops to 50% of nominal. However, halving the flow produces a raise in pad subsurface temperatures, ∼7 °C for operation at 12 krpm. Flow reduction below 50% does result in even more substantial power savings; however, it also produces too hot pad temperatures that approach 130 °C, a known limit for Babbitt material safe operation. The bearing static eccentricity (e) and direct stiffnesses Kxx < Kyy (load direction) do not show a significant dependency on the supplied flow, either above or below the nominal condition. A minor stiffness hardening does occur for very low flow conditions, 5% or so of nominal. Damping coefficients (Cxx ∼ Cyy) decrease by ∼30% as the flow rate decreases from 150% to just a few % of nominal flow. The experimental results are first to quantify operation of a TPJB supplied with minute amounts of lubricant flow. A test with a very low flow rate at ∼2% of nominal and under a light load produced the emergence of a broadband subsynchronous vibration frequency, albeit with very small amplitude.

Abstract:
