Abstract:
Dubai, the most extreme example to date of a realized neo-liberal capitalist urban utopia, is perhaps at its point of death. That is to say that, barring suicide, the only hope Dubai’s bonded labour – those tricked, forced and exploited into negated lives of low-paid wage servitude – have of losing their chains, given the emirate’s resilience to objections and protests from a multitude of commentators and activists, seems to be the stalling of construction, the falling demand for building projects – mega or otherwise – that the latest major financial crisis and economic recession necessitates.

Abstract:
This study investigates the concept of Collaborative Business Intelligence in general and specifically in three Dubai governmental entities, which are a part of Dubai Open Data Committee: namely Smart Dubai, Dubai Municipality and RTA, in an attempt to improve collaborative Business Intelligence between the three entities thorough a Smart City Project. A qualitative approach was used to collect data. Secondary data derived from academic articles, scholarly literature formulate the literature review and understand the concepts of business intelligence, collaborative business intelligence in general and how such business intelligence works at the three entities in specific. In addition, primary data was derived from interviews conducted with three senior employees from the top management of Smart Dubai, Dubai Municipality and RTA to help further gain in-depth understanding on how the three entities are collaborating with one another in Smart City Project. The results of the study have revealed that all three entities; Smart Dubai – Dubai Data Establishment, Dubai Municipality, and RTA are adopting business intelligence and collaborative BI. In addition, it is evident that the three entities are sharing data through Dubai Pulse for Smart City Projects. As well, the most used systems and software for analyzing and sharing data among all government entities to support decision-making process. The massive volume of data collected from different source required a huge investment in technology, process and people. In addition, because smart city project is still a new project under implementation and reconstruction, the project has reported few challenges with the implementation of BI, collaboration, and integration within the Municipality, RTA, and Smart Dubai, the key challenge is problem is with raising awareness among personnel and individuals working within in these three entities areas to embrace smart services, typical of collaborative business intelligence. As well as privacy and data security in which Dubai Data Establishment has adopted many strategies and policies to improve. Moreover, Limited research on best practice of BI and collaborative BI in UAE based organizations make it difficult to confirm if the organizations achieve the successful implementation of the collaborative BI and that make this assumption an area for further study.

Through five cases originally administered by the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC), the Courts have dismissed the allegations made against the arbitral tribunals. Abstract:
Introduction Physical activity (PA) promotion among school-aged youth is a global health priority. Recommendations for such promotion include implementing whole-of-school approaches that maximize resources across the school environment. This study examined schools’ participation in an annual, government-led, and emirate-wide initiative in Dubai, called the Dubai Fitness Challenge, in which the goal is to accrue 30 minutes of PA every day for 30 days (as such, the initiative is colloquially referred to as “Dubai 30x30”). Methods A mixed-methods design was employed for this study. Three schools were recruited using convenience sampling. Participants were 18 physical education teachers, 20 classroom teachers, 2 principals and 45 students. Data sources included surveys, focus groups, and interviews. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, multinomial logistic regression, and open and axial coding to develop themes. Results School staff reported that most Dubai 30x30 activities were provided in physical education, at break times during school, and before and after school. Students reported that they mainly participated in Dubai 30x30 activities during physical education and occasionally participated in activities after school and on weekends. During school, students were more likely to reach higher PA intensity levels when they were in contexts other than the regular classroom setting. Among school staff, physical education teachers were most involved and classroom teachers were least involved in promoting Dubai 30x30. Parent engagement was high. Staff perceived that Dubai 30x30 brought the community together, but physical education teachers also indicated there was a lack of implementation guidance and they felt burdened. Participants believed Dubai 30x30 increased PA participation and helped to promote their schools. Discussion This study provides an initial glimpse into schools’ participation in Dubai 30x30 and suggests that a whole-of-school PA lens is useful in gleaning information that could help to increase and optimize PA opportunities for students.

Abstract:
Introduction and Background: Thyroidectomy is one of the common endocrine surgery performed. Hypocalcemia is one of the most common complication post thyroidectomy. Incidence varies between 6.4-20.5% for transient and 1.5 to 2.69 for permanent hypocalcemia. Meticulous surgical technique is the key for preservation of blood supply to parathyroid gland and hence decreasing the incidence of post op hypocalcemia. Once identified should be treated with multidisciplinary approach with proper follow up. Objective: To determine the incidence of transient and perminant hypocalcemia in patients undergoing thyroidectomy in our institute for various reasons. Methods: Records of 120 patients who underwent thyroidectomy from Jan 2017 till July 2020 were retrospectively reviewed. Calcium levels were checked at 6 hours post operatively to find the incidence of transient hypocalcemia and at 6-8 months interval to calculate for permanent hypocalcemia. All patients were followed till 2 years post operatively and treatment started for those with hypocalcemia and repeated calcium levels were checked and treatment was tapered and gradually stopped once normal serum calcium levels reached normal. Results: The incidence of transient hypocalcemia in our study is 4.1 % while only 0.8 % patients had permanent hypocalcemia . Conclusion: Hypocalcemia being one of the most common complication of thyroidectomy, the incidence can be reduced by paying attention to meticulous surgical techniques. It is seen mostly in patients undergoing total thyroidectomy and advanced and prolonged surgery for malignancy.

Abstract:
White meat is one of the most commonly consumed animal-source foods in the Emirate of Dubai and is one of 21 main foods listed in the National Food Security Strategy of UAE and the Emirate of Dubai. Although fresh white meat is produced locally, the quantities are very limited, so, to meet market needs, chilled and frozen white meat is imported. The aim of this chapter is to examine the existing white meat supply networks and market in Dubai and understand the flow of fresh chickens from the local market and the shipment dynamics for imported frozen chickens under the One Health concept. Data from documents, publications and surveys of the Dubai Government, representatives of the Food Safety Department and Veterinary Service Section (via focus group discussions) and direct interviews with local small farmers, food importers, food manufacturers and retailers and animal feed manufacturers and retailers were used to describe the value chain for white meat in the Emirate of Dubai. The data were collected through detailed questionnaires in the interview with the focus groups and interviews of groups of stakeholders selected by the Food Safety Department in Dubai Municipality. Data from government strategies and reports were collected and analysed to understand the government’s position and the size of the white meat sector. The data provided by representatives of local small farmers, food importers, food manufacturers and retailers and animal feed manufacturers and retailers were used to understand the value chain of white meat from the private sector perspective. After studying the value chain and the results of this research, areas were identified in the value chain of the white meat sector at the level of the Emirate of Dubai that can be improved, for example, the need for better marketing of local products. Some areas are already strong such as the inclusion of white meat products in the Dubai strategy for Food Security approved at the level of the Emirate of Dubai. The results of this chapter highlight critical opportunities for changes in policies and best practices that if implemented by the Dubai Government would ensure that the white meat industry is able to meet local market demands. Recommendations to the Dubai Government are presented in support of enhancing Dubai’s economic sustainability and efficient contributions to food and nutrition security.

Abstract:
The developmental process as it unfolds in Dubai has hardly been analyzed by academics. Most current knowledge about the country originates from media coverage, especially from news magazines and business literature. Recently a number of social science based but historically oriented academic publications have appeared. Only one study, however, has seriously sought to place Dubai in a broader developmental framework: Sampler and Eigner'sFrom Sand to Silicon, published in 2003. Yet, by applying the so-called strategic trajectory model to the case of Dubai, they reduce their focus to the management side. Their aim is too narrow to provide an explanation of the overall development process in Dubai.

Abstract:
This research presents the findings of a study on the perceptions of sustainable development among companies in Dubai and Istanbul. It starts by providing an overview of the definitions, objectives, benefits, and requirements of sustainability, also highlighting some examples of best practices in this area. Then presents the results of a questionnaire survey that has been conducted to gather the views of companies on sustainable development and compare them. The main point of this research is to acknowledge the perspectives of companies in Dubai and Istanbul on sustainable development. This study aims to identify the sustainable development challenges that companies are currently facing and may face in the future, from an organizational perspective. It also aims to examine how companies can address these challenges in a way that benefits both their own operations and the larger society by contributing to sustainable development. The focus of the research is on understanding how companies can address these challenges from within their own organizational structures and practices. The survey results reveal similarities and differences in sustainability practices between Istanbul and Dubai. Istanbul-based companies prioritize customer-focused sustainability, while Dubai-based companies excel in sustainable operations. Istanbul ranked first in ethics and safety, while Dubai focused more on environmental impact. Both cities prioritize a safe work environment, but Istanbul focuses on employee engagement, while Dubai prioritizes energy efficiency and ethical sourcing. Common barriers include a lack of awareness, difficulty finding sustainable suppliers, and regulatory restrictions. Dubai companies perceive the higher implementation of sustainable strategies and measurable results. Regular evaluation, sharing of best practices, and alignment of sustainability priorities can drive improvements. Companies need to consider their unique context and challenges to effectively integrate sustainability into their business strategies, and overcome barriers. Collaboration, education, and stakeholder engagement are crucial for fostering a more sustainable future in both Istanbul and Dubai.

The data obtained revealed that ASL is important among non-Arabic natives and immigrants since its improved communication and interaction. The main challenge noted included curriculum shortcomings, inadequate training and learning, poor technology utilization, and insufficient learning times. The findings suggested curriculum review, increase in the technology used in training and learning, and allocation of more time for ASL lessons to curb the challenges. The examinations discuss the policy, practice, and research implications of the findings. Although the findings are insightful in ASL training and learning in Dubai, the researcher recommended extensive research using different methodologies, sample sizes, and other cities in the UAE.
